- 0:23chickens, Hey everybody. Good morning from the very busy
- 0:30Chicken Coop. So this morning we are talking
- 0:33about being in the moment and this is probably a subject that
- 0:37you are going to hear me talk about an awful lot over the time
- 0:40that you spend with me. Because it's one of my biggest
- 0:43most difficult things that I personally have to deal with.
- 0:47So in me recognizing in myself, I can sit here and have a
- 0:51conversation with all of you about it because I can tell you
- 0:54it is By far my Achilles heel being in the moment.
- 0:58I am a mad future Pacer. I love to constantly, be
- 1:01thinking about, what's next? I love to be physically doing
- 1:06things that are, you know, on task, so to speak.
- 1:10But I forever and in my head, I forever and doing other things
- 1:16in my head, and that's that is a, is it an asset?
- 1:20Yes. Is it a liability?
- 1:22Yes, and I have had this, my whole life.
- 1:27This is just been something where I mean, obviously, I was a
- 1:31kid that, you know, grew up during the 70's and I will tell
- 1:34you I would have if I had grown up in the 90s or 2000s, I no
- 1:38doubt would have been medicated because somebody would have
- 1:40said, well, she has ADHD or add. However, I was brought up with
- 1:47the understanding that you had to figure out how to deal with
- 1:50it, just like anxiety, and a lot of other things at that time I
- 1:54had Quote unquote, figure it out.
- 1:57So I always had workarounds I always had things that I learned
- 2:01that could help me and they still do to this day.
- 2:04But I have to say one of the most interesting things for me
- 2:08and studying Buddhism and mindfulness and meditation.
- 2:12And all of it is that you have to be painfully aware of where
- 2:17your thoughts are going. And when you are painfully aware
- 2:22of where your thoughts are going, you are a pain.
- 2:24Fully aware of where they are, not because we are so good at
- 2:31criticizing ourselves. So I can instantly tell you
- 2:34where my thoughts are not going, which is where they're supposed
- 2:37to be. So I'm going to give you an
- 2:38example. Because today, today's the
- 2:40perfect situation, it is a Sunday morning, it's very
- 2:44relaxing. I don't have clients.
- 2:47I am going to spend, you know, the day, with my family.
- 2:51I'm always up early and I'm getting ready to come out and
- 2:55You know, take care of the chickens and beforehand.
- 2:56I was like, all right, I'm going to make muffins this morning and
- 2:59I wanted to make pumpkin muffins.
- 3:02So I knew I was going to come out and talk to you.
- 3:05I had a plan of something different that I was going to
- 3:08talk to you about but then I realized, as I was going through
- 3:11my morning and I was working on getting outside to the chickens
- 3:16and whatnot that I had this overwhelming sense of what was
- 3:21going on in my head, and what was going on in my head, was I
- 3:24Not concentrating on the muffins.
- 3:26You see, I needed a recipe for the muffins because the one I
- 3:29had I don't love it for a pumpkin muffin.
- 3:32So I was like, all right, I'm going to go online and look for
- 3:34it but while I'm doing that I'm thinking about other things that
- 3:38I need to get at the grocery store and then I start
- 3:40realizing, okay, I need to get the dog his pill because my dog
- 3:45has to take a pack will because he has constant itching and it's
- 3:49a major pain in the butt for him.
- 3:52So I have to make sure I get it to him right at the right.
- 3:54Time. And then I'm going through and
- 3:56I'm like, okay well at least I have all the things that I need
- 3:59to for the muffins but I should probably fold that laundry too
- 4:03and I'm going in my head and my whole peaceful morning was
- 4:07turning into chaos because my brain was running through a
- 4:11whole bunch of other stuff that was going on.
- 4:14And so I stopped and I was like, no, I'm going to concentrate on
- 4:17getting the recipe. So pull myself back.
- 4:20Walk over to my computer, go to start looking at recipes and I
- 4:26see that a client sent me an email and she's hiring somebody,
- 4:30and she wants to put the ad up on indeed today, because today
- 4:34is a Sunday. So, apparently overnight, she
- 4:36sent me the list of stuff that was in it, and I was going to
- 4:40read through it and approve it and help her add to it.
- 4:43So of course, immediately I stopped what I was doing and I
- 4:47turned around and I started focusing on her ad and I was no
- 4:49longer Hang on the muffins then before, you know, it not only.
- 4:53Am I doing that, but I'm looking at.
- 4:54Oh, I got an email. That says, I have the 30 percent
- 4:56off, coupon it some food. So, anybody who knows?
- 4:59Me knows. I love buying things that son
- 5:01food, because they have absolutely great proteins and
- 5:05powders it. All kinds of wonderful mixes and
- 5:08you don't often get a thirty percent off coupon.
- 5:10So before you know it now I'm on there and I realized that I
- 5:15never even made coffee so I stopped I go walking over to
- 5:18make coffee and I'm like wow. What am I doing?
- 5:21I am all over the place again. My lack of mindfulness is huge
- 5:26in this moment, so I keep pulling myself back and pulling
- 5:29myself back now, I'm telling you all this and I know you're
- 5:32probably laughing about it because it is funny.
- 5:35But the truth is, I'm telling you this because I want you to
- 5:37know, the struggle is real, for all of us.
- 5:39Even those of us who know it and practice it and work it daily.
- 5:42It is hard for anybody. It is hard for anybody, not an
- 5:48easy process. So I'm You all of this so that
- 5:51you can understand how to help yourself.
- 5:54So, this morning alone, I had to hit my reset button.
- 5:59At least that I can cognitively tell you, I counted about 32
- 6:04times to pull myself back because, you know, the Saga
- 6:08continued every week at goes out.
- 6:11I have to remember to get the cat back in.
- 6:13I'm like oh you don't want to leave her outside on the porch,
- 6:15got to get her back in and got to make sure I check that
- 6:19because we were having an issue. Issue with our hot water and I
- 6:21was like, okay let me test the hot water to get this stuff
- 6:24done. I know I need to get tickets for
- 6:26this show that my son wants to go see.
- 6:28Oh my God, my head was on fire. So do yourself a favor, spend
- 6:34the time that you need to to hone in and see are you being
- 6:39present where you need to be present?
- 6:41What is going on? Are you pulling yourself back
- 6:44when you need to? It's okay to go astray.
- 6:46It's not okay to stay astray. So mindfulness today, You know,
- 6:51be in the moment focus on it. Stay in the moment you know I
- 6:55when I went to go make the coffee, just to tell you a
- 6:57little quick reset when I went to reset, I was like, okay, I'm
- 7:00getting coffee, he's a French press.
- 7:02So I'm taking the coffee grinds and I'm putting the Scoops in
- 7:06and rather than thinking about something else.
- 7:07I'm like, no smell the coffee, put it in one, two, three
- 7:12scoops, put the coffee down. Now, walk the coffee back in,
- 7:16put the coffee away, as soon as I start doing the task and
- 7:19staying in the moment. Head comes right back to piece.
- 7:22You know, in, Sunday's are supposed to be about that.
- 7:24Some of these are supposed to be about peace.
- 7:26So, work on that today. See how much you can stay in the
- 7:30moment. I know.
- 7:31I will be. I'll see you guys tomorrow.
- 7:33Have a blessed day. Bye.
