- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with you for the next twenty five
- 0:08Speaker 1: minutes or so, hoping everyone had a great Mother's Day,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and of course this weekend, in addition to our celebration
- 0:15Speaker 1: of our moms and all that, we had a bit
- 0:18Speaker 1: of sad news too, the passing of Bobby Cox and
- 0:22Speaker 1: the many memories people had of him that people shared.
- 0:25Speaker 1: That was kind of a touching part of the weekend
- 0:28Speaker 1: for sure. And Bobby had an amazing baseball life. We've
- 0:31Speaker 1: talked about it, talked about it on Fox the other day.
- 0:35Speaker 1: He will be dearly missed by so many people, especially
- 0:38Speaker 1: in the Braves organization. Now, the current group of Braves
- 0:42Speaker 1: played this weekend in Los Angeles against the Dodgers what
- 0:46Speaker 1: was billed as a big series, and it was a
- 0:48Speaker 1: big series, and the Braves did Bobby proud, winning two
- 0:51Speaker 1: of three. Right now, they have a nine game lead,
- 0:56Speaker 1: a nine game lead in the National League East over
- 0:59Speaker 1: the Philly and the Marlins, not the Mets, we'll get
- 1:02Speaker 1: to them. And the Braves. For all the questions that
- 1:06Speaker 1: I raised about their starting rotation that other people raised
- 1:09Speaker 1: about their starting rotation, it looks absolutely terrific right now.
- 1:13Speaker 1: It's not just Chris Sayle, it's Bryce Elder And on
- 1:17Speaker 1: Saturday we saw seven scoreless innings from Spencer Stryder. So
- 1:21Speaker 1: they are an outstanding position with their pitching right now.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I say that you never know what might happen, of course,
- 1:28Speaker 1: but the Atlanta Braves with resurgence seasons from Michael Harris
- 1:32Speaker 1: and Ozzy Alby's and of course Drake Baldwin and Matt
- 1:34Speaker 1: Olsen doing what they're doing, it's just a juggernaut right now.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And their next series will be even more interesting than
- 1:42Speaker 1: the last series because they're going home to face the Cubs.
- 1:46Speaker 1: This series will pit the two best teams in baseball
- 1:49Speaker 1: right now, the two best records in baseball, and it
- 1:52Speaker 1: will be a really good test for the Cubs, obviously,
- 1:55Speaker 1: who are coming off those incredible two ten game winning streaks,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and then the Braves coming home and off a six
- 2:02Speaker 1: and three road trip. This should be a fun one
- 2:05Speaker 1: to watch. Now. I want to dig into a couple
- 2:07Speaker 1: of other things in this first block today, and two
- 2:11Speaker 1: teams we're going to talk about are two of the
- 2:12Speaker 1: teams that supposedly can't compete in this baseball world today,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays. And we'll
- 2:20Speaker 1: start with Milwaukee, who swept the Yankees at home over
- 2:24Speaker 1: the weekend. And this team right now, we haven't talked
- 2:29Speaker 1: much about them because the Cubs have been so hot,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and yet the Brewers are still only three and a
- 2:35Speaker 1: half games back. For all the Cubs winning, and it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: been a lot of winning. The Brewers are a top
- 2:40Speaker 1: five team in both ERA and runs per game. They
- 2:45Speaker 1: rank fourth in ERA I'm sorry, yes, fourth in ERA
- 2:49Speaker 1: that's without Brandon Woodruff and fifth and runs per game.
- 2:52Speaker 1: The miz the other day was ridiculous, one hundred, one hundred,
- 2:55Speaker 1: one hundred. It's all he was doing. And they were
- 2:58Speaker 1: getting great work as well from Chad Patrick, from Kyle Harrison,
- 3:01Speaker 1: who they acquired in the Chad Derham trade. They just
- 3:05Speaker 1: are doing what the Brewers always seemed to do. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: it's been kind of cool to watch now. Yesterday's game,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and granted the Yankees didn't play all that well in
- 3:14Speaker 1: the series. Freed had the back to back walks Friday
- 3:17Speaker 1: that rodin the five walks yesterday. But yesterday's game ended
- 3:23Speaker 1: in kind of a poetic way. If you remember twenty
- 3:26Speaker 1: years ago, and a lot of you, of course don't
- 3:28Speaker 1: remember this twenty years ago, and we all needs are
- 3:30Speaker 1: our memories jogged about this, But one of the great
- 3:33Speaker 1: moments in Brewer's history back then was Bill Hall's walk
- 3:37Speaker 1: off homer against the Mets on Mother's Day. You see
- 3:40Speaker 1: the Brewers tweet that refers to it right there, Well,
- 3:43Speaker 1: we had echoes of that on Mother's Day when Bryce
- 3:46Speaker 1: Terrang did the same thing to the Yankees. And when
- 3:50Speaker 1: you see Sarah Lang's tweet baseball is the best, well,
- 3:53Speaker 1: she tweets it for many reasons, but this is one
- 3:56Speaker 1: of the reasons baseball has this historical context that no
- 4:02Speaker 1: other sport really has in the same way. Obviously there's
- 4:05Speaker 1: history in the NFL and the NBA and the NHL,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but baseball routinely produces moments that take you back to
- 4:13Speaker 1: other great moments, and the Bryce Terrange homer certainly was that.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So the Brewers impressive showing, and again the Yankees maybe
- 4:20Speaker 1: weren't it their best. Doesn't matter. You got to beat
- 4:22Speaker 1: who's in front of you, and the Brewers, as they
- 4:25Speaker 1: so often do, took advantage when in the second ending
- 4:29Speaker 1: Friday Night free to isssued the back to back walks,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and yesterday Rodin in his season debut, not looking as
- 4:35Speaker 1: sharp as I'm sure he will later, So good for
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Brewers. Terrific series for them, and with this, the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yankees now are in second place behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Now,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I wrote about the Rays on Friday, and this was
- 4:50Speaker 1: pointed out to me by one of their former players
- 4:52Speaker 1: last week, how getting back to the Trap was going
- 4:56Speaker 1: to have a really good effect on them and is
- 4:58Speaker 1: having a really good effect on them because the Rays
- 5:02Speaker 1: last season, let's face it, they were displaced, they were
- 5:05Speaker 1: playing in a minor league park, which was not their
- 5:08Speaker 1: home park. They were playing outdoors, which is not something
- 5:11Speaker 1: they're accustomed to doing, especially in the Florida heat, and
- 5:14Speaker 1: it affected them. They also had this crazy long road
- 5:17Speaker 1: trip in August that drained them. And while there's no excuse,
- 5:21Speaker 1: as Drew Rasmussen pointed out my column, certainly it was
- 5:24Speaker 1: a different set of circumstances from which they are accustomed.
- 5:29Speaker 1: This season back in the Trap, which to us most
- 5:32Speaker 1: fans is kind of I don't know, weird place, the
- 5:34Speaker 1: House of Horrors, but to the Rays, it's home now.
- 5:37Speaker 1: They weren't home this weekend when they beat the Red
- 5:39Speaker 1: Sox two of three. But this effect is certainly helping
- 5:44Speaker 1: this team. I don't know that there's much question about it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: They've got three terrific hitters, Aronda, Diaz and Caminero. Of course,
- 5:51Speaker 1: they've got Chandler Simpson wreaking havoc in a way that
- 5:54Speaker 1: only he can. And they're pitching led by Nick Martinez,
- 5:58Speaker 1: free agent signing and of course the return of Shane McClanahan.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It's been outstanding as well. So the Rays are doing
- 6:05Speaker 1: what the Rays do and it's just been as always
- 6:09Speaker 1: fascinating to watch.

- 7:12Speaker 1: Now, on the other side of the spectrum, the game
- 7:15Speaker 1: I had this weekend Arizona Diamondbacks hosting the New York Mets,
- 7:19Speaker 1: two teams that were kind of struggling. The Mets, though,
- 7:23Speaker 1: are really struggling still. They are at fifteen and twenty five,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the worst team in the National League, worst record in
- 7:32Speaker 1: the National League, and it doesn't appear watching them play
- 7:36Speaker 1: right now that there is much hope. Now. I talked
- 7:40Speaker 1: about this on the broadcast on Saturday. Recent history does
- 7:44Speaker 1: point out that there is hope for the Mets. If
- 7:47Speaker 1: you recall twenty nineteen, the Nationals started nineteen and thirty
- 7:52Speaker 1: one before they rebounded and eventually won the World Series.
- 7:56Speaker 1: To get to nineteen and thirty one, these Mets only
- 7:59Speaker 1: need to go four and six. Okay, go back. Even
- 8:02Speaker 1: more recently, twenty twenty four, the Mets started twenty two
- 8:07Speaker 1: and thirty three, rebounded and reached the NLCS. To get
- 8:11Speaker 1: to twenty two and thirty three, the Mets can go
- 8:15Speaker 1: seven and eight and they would be there. So you
- 8:17Speaker 1: look at that and you know that there is hope,
- 8:19Speaker 1: that there is a lot of time left. There is
- 8:21Speaker 1: a lot of schedule left. It's not true for the Mets,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but for all struggling teams. Right now, the San Francisco
- 8:27Speaker 1: Giants will get to one after another. That said, watching
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Mets play right now, and I know they had
- 8:35Speaker 1: some defensive miscues yesterday with Andy and Banyez, but it's
- 8:38Speaker 1: really the offense that is the problem. Soto suddenly is struggling.
- 8:42Speaker 1: He's in a four for thirty three slump. Bashet hasn't
- 8:45Speaker 1: hit all year for the most part. I know he's
- 8:47Speaker 1: been robbed in many ways. He is the guy who
- 8:51Speaker 1: has the most defensive run saved against him or did
- 8:53Speaker 1: entering the weekend, okay, but the injuries have deprived them
- 8:58Speaker 1: of a number of other And I'm talking of course
- 9:02Speaker 1: about Lindore, about Louis Robert Jr. About Jorge Polanco, and
- 9:07Speaker 1: not just them. Remember Mike Takman was part of this team,
- 9:10Speaker 1: Jared Young was part of this team. Ronnie Maurizio was
- 9:13Speaker 1: part of this team. They're all hurt too, and the
- 9:16Speaker 1: combined effect is just sapping the Mets of any offensive ability.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Now that's not to excuse where they are, and certainly
- 9:24Speaker 1: you have to play the hand your dealt, and all
- 9:27Speaker 1: teams deal with injuries, but the Mets roster construction is
- 9:32Speaker 1: going to be a question until we see better performance.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And what do I mean by that, Well, going into
- 9:38Speaker 1: the season, it wasn't exactly a secret that Luis Robert Jr.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Had an injury history. Jorge Polonco played last year and played,
- 9:46Speaker 1: of course really well for the Seattle Mariners, but he
- 9:48Speaker 1: too has an injury history. And then you look at
- 9:51Speaker 1: the Marcus Simeon trade, and we all understood what the
- 9:53Speaker 1: Mets were doing, getting rid of five years of Neimo's
- 9:56Speaker 1: contract to take on three years of Simeon's but the
- 10:01Speaker 1: problem is Simeon hasn't hit since twenty twenty three. So
- 10:05Speaker 1: the Mets are in this funky place where their offense
- 10:10Speaker 1: is simply not what you would expect from a three
- 10:12Speaker 1: hundred and seventy million dollars payroll. And can it get
- 10:16Speaker 1: better once they're injured players start returning. Sure, if those
- 10:21Speaker 1: guys stay healthy. Now Lindor I would expect would stay healthy.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He's been healthy pretty much his whole career. But with
- 10:28Speaker 1: Robert and Polanco, past injuries are usually the best indicator
- 10:32Speaker 1: of future injuries, and that's where we are right now.
- 10:36Speaker 1: The Mets five through nine in the lineup yesterday, Marcus Simeon,
- 10:40Speaker 1: Andy Abaniez, Tyron Taylor, Carson Bench who's been much better
- 10:43Speaker 1: lately as a rookie, and in the ninth spot Louis Torrens.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That's a lineup you might see in a B game
- 10:51Speaker 1: in Florida, not a B game, a split squad game
- 10:53Speaker 1: when the team's on the road, and that's the team
- 10:55Speaker 1: you send out there. So it's not the Mets team
- 10:58Speaker 1: that they thought they were putting on the field. But
- 11:00Speaker 1: that said, they still should be able to do better
- 11:04Speaker 1: than this, for sure, and the Mets are going to
- 11:07Speaker 1: be a team to watch. They go home against the
- 11:09Speaker 1: Tigers and then the Yankees Subway Series next weekend. And
- 11:13Speaker 1: while Carlos Mendoza was safe or at least declared it
- 11:16Speaker 1: safe by the President of Baseball Operations David Stearns recently,
- 11:20Speaker 1: if they keep losing fairly or not, and I would
- 11:23Speaker 1: say not fairly, Carlos Mendoza is going to be under
- 11:26Speaker 1: scrutiny again. This is simply a team that right now
- 11:30Speaker 1: isn't inspiring much hope. All right with that, We're going
- 11:33Speaker 1: to end it for this block. Come back with the
- 11:35Speaker 1: Inside Dish and the Inside Story. Ll maybe the inside
- 11:39Speaker 1: story of the Patrick Bailey trade right after this time.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Now for the Inside Dish, as we get into our
- 11:52Speaker 1: food motif. I wrote today about the San Francisco Giants,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and often in the Inside Dish I talk about it story.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I've written a trend in the game, something that's going
- 12:03Speaker 1: on that is catching my interest and hopefully catching yours
- 12:06Speaker 1: as well. And the Giants to me are a fascinating team,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and they're fascinating because their President of Baseball Operations, Buster's Posey,
- 12:15Speaker 1: has repeatedly taken big swings since taking over the job.
- 12:18Speaker 1: In September twenty twenty four, signed Willie Damas, traded for
- 12:23Speaker 1: Raphael Devers, hired Tony Batello, all of these things, and
- 12:27Speaker 1: now this weekend a lesser big swing, but an interesting
- 12:31Speaker 1: one nonetheless, the trade of Patrick Bailey a polarizing catcher
- 12:36Speaker 1: to the Cleveland Guardians. Now why is BALLI polarizing Because
- 12:41Speaker 1: he is easily, by many measures, the best defensive catcher
- 12:45Speaker 1: in the game, and yet at the time of the
- 12:47Speaker 1: trade he was batting only one forty six with a
- 12:49Speaker 1: sub four hundred ops. You can see why the Giants,
- 12:53Speaker 1: after years of this watching the offense of Patrick Bailey,
- 12:57Speaker 1: grew a little tired of it, and yet caught my attention,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and the reason I decided to write. Part of the
- 13:03Speaker 1: reason I decided to write, in addition to the Giants
- 13:06Speaker 1: being sixteen and twenty four, was that the Guardians were
- 13:10Speaker 1: clearly excited by getting Bailey. They acquired him for the
- 13:15Speaker 1: twenty ninth overall pick and a left handed pitching prospect
- 13:19Speaker 1: who he saw in the WBC mister Wilkinson tugboat. So
- 13:24Speaker 1: the Guardians in their press conference on Saturday, Manager Stephen
- 13:30Speaker 1: Votes said eight or nine people from the Giants organization
- 13:33Speaker 1: had already reached out to him to congratulate him on
- 13:36Speaker 1: the deal. Chris Antonetti, President Baseball Operations, talked about a
- 13:40Speaker 1: conversation he had with Orioles manager Craig Albanez. Now Craig
- 13:44Speaker 1: Albanaz was the Giants catching coach a few years back
- 13:48Speaker 1: and then he became the Guardian's bench coach, so he
- 13:50Speaker 1: has history with all of this. And he said to
- 13:54Speaker 1: Chris Antonetti, now you acquire this guy. And Antonetti said,
- 13:59Speaker 1: we have had a long standing interest in Patrick Bailey.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So it occurred to me, well, if the Guardians love
- 14:06Speaker 1: this guy so much, what are they saying that the
- 14:10Speaker 1: Giants might be missing? And it's pretty clear the defense. Obviously,
- 14:14Speaker 1: the Guardians are a run prevention team. They've been that
- 14:17Speaker 1: way to their detriment. In some respects, they haven't had
- 14:20Speaker 1: enough offense, and yet this is what they do. This
- 14:23Speaker 1: is who they like behind the plate. Austin Hedges, great glove,
- 14:28Speaker 1: no bat, that's him, and that's Patrick Bailey, at least
- 14:31Speaker 1: at this point in his career. So that to me
- 14:35Speaker 1: was interesting, and clearly the Giants had their reasons, and
- 14:38Speaker 1: clearly the Giants also felt they got a very strong
- 14:41Speaker 1: return here. They also have the number four pick in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the draft, so to get the number twenty nine and
- 14:46Speaker 1: the additional pool money, that's really good. But as I wrote,
- 14:50Speaker 1: the moves that Posey has made so far, you put
- 14:53Speaker 1: them all together, in some it's subtraction by addition, they
- 14:58Speaker 1: have not worked. There are a lot of reasons for this.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And what's weird about the Giants is that some people felt,
- 15:06Speaker 1: including myself, I would say that going into the season
- 15:09Speaker 1: their offense would maybe not be great, but it would
- 15:12Speaker 1: be at least le gaverage. It's not even close. The
- 15:16Speaker 1: Giants are one of the worst offenses in the game.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Fewest homers, fewest walks, at historically low walk rate. It's
- 15:24Speaker 1: kind of incredible the way that they've cretered offensively. Now,
- 15:28Speaker 1: as I wrote, most of that is on the players
- 15:31Speaker 1: Rufield Devers should be better than this. Willia Damas should
- 15:34Speaker 1: be better than this. Matt Chapman the same. But at
- 15:37Speaker 1: the same time, this was the some result or the
- 15:41Speaker 1: end result of these moves that they've made. Now again,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'll repeat each move that you look at with the
- 15:47Speaker 1: Giants that Posey has made. The big ones they made
- 15:51Speaker 1: sense at the time. Willia Damas seven years, one hundred
- 15:54Speaker 1: and eighty two million as a free agent. Maybe a
- 15:57Speaker 1: bit of an overpay. Some people thought a year too long,
- 16:00Speaker 1: but it wasn't outrageous, okay. His AAV average annual value
- 16:05Speaker 1: sort of fits into where the top shortstops are, or
- 16:09Speaker 1: at least at his level. Raphaeld devers That trade at
- 16:12Speaker 1: the time was considered something of a coup. The Giants,
- 16:16Speaker 1: who have had incredible difficulties signing free agents for whatever reasons,
- 16:21Speaker 1: from Aaron Judge to shohe Otani into Yoshinoba Yamamoto back
- 16:25Speaker 1: to Bryce Harper and others, they needed to do some
- 16:30Speaker 1: things to get kind of back in the mix with
- 16:34Speaker 1: prominent players. That's why they gave Adamis the extra year,
- 16:37Speaker 1: if indeed that's how they viewed it, and that's why
- 16:40Speaker 1: they made the trade for Devors. Can't sign him as
- 16:42Speaker 1: a free agent. Well, trade for that kind of player
- 16:45Speaker 1: Devors to this point has been disappointment and this is
- 16:49Speaker 1: where they are right now. And as I wrote, the
- 16:52Speaker 1: Vitello move is also going to be one that is
- 16:55Speaker 1: questioned for some time until we see that he can
- 17:00Speaker 1: do this in the major leagues. He certainly was successful
- 17:02Speaker 1: at the University of Tennessee, and he may very well
- 17:05Speaker 1: prove successful with the San Francisco Giants. The problem is,
- 17:10Speaker 1: right now, I don't know. I don't believe that he
- 17:13Speaker 1: has the credibility within his own clubhouse because he's so
- 17:16Speaker 1: new to take steps that other managers, veteran managers might
- 17:21Speaker 1: take in this kind of situation. I'm talking about conversations,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and I refer to something I learned over the weekend.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Actually it's been in the news. Tory Levello met with
- 17:31Speaker 1: his starting pitchers the weekend before this one in Chicago,
- 17:35Speaker 1: basically said you guys got to throw more strikes, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: they responded, they've been much better this next turn through.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And Lavello had that kind of credibility with his players
- 17:44Speaker 1: to go to them and say, guys, this needs to change.
- 17:47Speaker 1: So all these things in combination are adding up to
- 17:52Speaker 1: an incredibly difficult start for the Giants. Now, what I
- 17:56Speaker 1: like about Buster Posey, and I made this clear in
- 17:58Speaker 1: the column, and what actually a lot of fans should
- 18:02Speaker 1: like about Buster Posey is that in an age when
- 18:05Speaker 1: most heads of baseball operations are risk averse, afraid to
- 18:10Speaker 1: make any move that they think can come back to
- 18:13Speaker 1: haunt them. Posey does this repeatedly, one after another. He
- 18:18Speaker 1: is decisive, he is bold, he is all of that
- 18:21Speaker 1: that is to be applauded. The problem is when it
- 18:24Speaker 1: doesn't work well, then you wonder, okay, where this is going.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And that is a fair question with the Giants right now.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Where is this going? Now? As I mentioned, operations saved,
- 18:35Speaker 1: the season is in full effect over the last week.
- 18:38Speaker 1: What have we seen from the Giants. We've seen them
- 18:41Speaker 1: promote their top prospect, Bryce Eldridge, as well as a
- 18:45Speaker 1: utility catching prospect named Jesus Rodriguez. We've seen them make
- 18:49Speaker 1: the Bailey trade, and we've seen them shake up their
- 18:51Speaker 1: bullpen as well. Now, again, Bailey had his faults. There
- 18:56Speaker 1: was a sequence in Philadelphia in late April when he
- 18:59Speaker 1: called ten straight of the same pitch. I can't remember
- 19:03Speaker 1: the pitch off the top of my head, sorry, and
- 19:06Speaker 1: it was Ryan Walker and it didn't go well. Bryson
- 19:09Speaker 1: started a game tying double and that was that. Then
- 19:13Speaker 1: you have also at the flip side of that, the
- 19:17Speaker 1: situation where you're left with right now you're catching tandem
- 19:21Speaker 1: or you're catching corps of Daniel Sussak once he comes
- 19:24Speaker 1: off the il. He's a guy who was a rule
- 19:27Speaker 1: five pick left unprotected by the athletics. Big spring, good start,
- 19:32Speaker 1: but it's a small sample. Rodriguez, who is a guy
- 19:35Speaker 1: they acquired in the Camillo d'aval trade, might be a
- 19:38Speaker 1: good acquisition, certainly looks like it so far, and journeyman
- 19:41Speaker 1: Erik has so where they are with their catching right
- 19:44Speaker 1: now is kind of in an uncertain place, but they
- 19:47Speaker 1: felt this was a move they had to make again,
- 19:50Speaker 1: bold stroke and perfectly defensible stroke, even with the Guardians
- 19:55Speaker 1: celebrating this deal at the Giant's expense. But at the
- 19:58Speaker 1: same time, the questions I'm raising here is, well, the
- 20:02Speaker 1: question I'm raising is where's this going? Ultimately what happens here?
- 20:07Speaker 1: And if you're a Giants fan you're sitting there watching this,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you might be wondering, Okay, if this doesn't work, then
- 20:15Speaker 1: what's next? All right, we'll be back with your questions
- 20:18Speaker 1: right after this.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Big Dog. You know how it is, man, We're always hungry,
- 20:22Speaker 2: and how do we get our food. We don't want
- 20:25Speaker 2: the stuff that makes our bellies hurt. We go to
- 20:27Speaker 2: Hello Fresh, we find out specifically what we love to eat,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and guess what Kratzy I know it helps you out
- 20:33Speaker 2: the household. Wifey is happy and the kids are extra happy.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I'm good at two things. Cooking is one of them,
- 20:40Speaker 3: but not trying to choose what we're going to have.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I've gone fifteen meals so far and they haven't given
- 20:45Speaker 3: me one repeat meal. There's so many to choose from,
- 20:48Speaker 3: and they can make it easy for me.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think the best part of it is
- 20:52Speaker 2: is for me. I'm very particular. I'm trying new things
- 20:55Speaker 2: and I'm really really liking these things from HelloFresh. Go

- 21:28Speaker 1: Time Now for Grill and Ken the part of the
- 21:30Speaker 1: show where I answer your questions. And by the way,
- 21:32Speaker 1: it was ten straight sinkers from Ryan Walker. My brain
- 21:35Speaker 1: just kind of laps there. Ten straight sinkers. Let's get
- 21:38Speaker 1: to your question, all right. The first one comes from
- 21:42Speaker 1: We Can Better fifty four, who says, with the Bailly
- 21:45Speaker 1: trade and reports of the Cub's interest in Freddy Peralta
- 21:47Speaker 1: and Sandy Alcantra, do you believe teams will make trades
- 21:50Speaker 1: earlier or will it all happen closer to the deadline?
- 21:54Speaker 1: We could better? This is always a question, or a
- 21:56Speaker 1: good question at this time of year, because we have
- 21:59Speaker 1: seen a significant trade already, and that occurred on May ninth,
- 22:03Speaker 1: So might that open things up and might other teams
- 22:07Speaker 1: act in kind? I don't believe the answer to that
- 22:11Speaker 1: is yes. Generally speaking, we do see trades in May.
- 22:15Speaker 1: The Luisa Rise trade from Miami to San Diego. I
- 22:20Speaker 1: believe that was in May as well, and it'll happen
- 22:24Speaker 1: once in a while. But at the same time, the
- 22:27Speaker 1: deadline is what drives the action. It's almost always that way.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So you'll see the bulk of it in July, after
- 22:34Speaker 1: the All Star break leading to the deadline. Not to
- 22:36Speaker 1: rule out that something might occur before then, but I
- 22:39Speaker 1: don't believe the Mets are trading Freddy Peralta or the
- 22:41Speaker 1: Marlins are trading al Contra just yet. Those teams still
- 22:45Speaker 1: want to see what they have see if they can
- 22:47Speaker 1: get back in the race. Actually, the Marlins are somewhat
- 22:49Speaker 1: in the wildcard race as it stands, so most teams
- 22:53Speaker 1: are still kind of evaluating things, seeing where they are,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and not ready to make trades. You'll hear about talks.
- 22:59Speaker 1: There are talks always, but I don't know that we'll
- 23:01Speaker 1: see much action. Next question comes from Garrett Clemens Sports,
- 23:06Speaker 1: who ask Ken, Ken, are the Braves the best team
- 23:08Speaker 1: in your eyes right now? Difficult to say anything, but
- 23:12Speaker 1: and certainly the Dodgers are struggling offensively. Maybe Bets coming
- 23:16Speaker 1: back will help them, and maybe they'll kind of wake
- 23:18Speaker 1: up a little bit. Certainly, the Yankees have been outstanding
- 23:22Speaker 1: so far, as have the Rays, and the Cubs have
- 23:24Speaker 1: been the Cubs, we've seen their ten game winning streaks,
- 23:27Speaker 1: two of them already this season. I don't know that
- 23:31Speaker 1: any of those teams you would say has played better
- 23:33Speaker 1: than the Braves. So right now, the Braves are the
- 23:35Speaker 1: bell of the ball in Major League Baseball. And another
- 23:39Speaker 1: test awaits this week against the Cubs. And one question
- 23:42Speaker 1: I heard people raise when the Cubs were hot was
- 23:45Speaker 1: that are they peaking too early? You can always make
- 23:49Speaker 1: that argument, and certainly the season is so long, we've
- 23:52Speaker 1: got five months to go pretty much that you always wonder, Okay,
- 23:56Speaker 1: what's going to happen and will injuries happen to thwart team?
- 24:00Speaker 1: But so far, so good for the Braves. They've had
- 24:03Speaker 1: a terrific start to their season, somewhat of an unexpected
- 24:06Speaker 1: start under the new manager, Walt Weiss. Right now, yes,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I put them at the top of my power rankings.
- 24:12Speaker 1: All right, let's go one more question, Ken, Would a
- 24:14Speaker 1: ninety to one hundred loss season get David Sterns fired?
- 24:18Speaker 1: As from armand is amazing? I will say this, Armond,
- 24:23Speaker 1: If they lose that many games, ninety to one hundred,
- 24:26Speaker 1: certainly David Stearns is going to be under scrutiny, and
- 24:28Speaker 1: certainly this is going to be a question that will
- 24:31Speaker 1: be asked. Now. I've read about Buster Posey today and
- 24:34Speaker 1: the issues that he has had running the San Francisco Giants.
- 24:37Speaker 1: David Stern's different issues, of course, but many issues this
- 24:42Speaker 1: year with the Mets. Again. Season isn't over. There is
- 24:46Speaker 1: still time for them to come back, though it's increasingly
- 24:49Speaker 1: difficult to see it. But yes, if Sterns loses, if
- 24:52Speaker 1: the Mets lose that many games under Stearns this year
- 24:55Speaker 1: with that payroll, certainly there are going to be questions raised.
- 24:59Speaker 1: And he's got a big contract and I don't know
- 25:02Speaker 1: that Steve Cohen with all his money's going to want
- 25:04Speaker 1: to run from that contract. But again the question will
- 25:08Speaker 1: be asked. All right, I want to thank everyone for
- 25:10Speaker 1: watching and for listening. Foul Territory coming up at one
