- 0:04Second Samuel, chapter 6. Students brains, that's where
- 0:09we're at tonight. And this will not be our last
- 0:14week. In this chapter, we will We'll
- 0:17cover it all by the. Hang tight and enjoy the
- 0:25journey. Second, Samuel chapter 6, are
- 0:27you there? if you there, meet me in verse
- 0:309, We're going to read this in a moment but want us to pray one
- 0:36more time, my brother just pray but doesn't hurt to Pray Again.
- 0:41Just come with your heart before the Lord as the word is open.
- 0:43Before you And realize that we are here in his presence before
- 0:49the Eternal decree of God. And Lord, we thank you that you
- 0:53have given us your word. Thank you.
- 0:55That you did the miracle of the new birth in each of us.
- 1:00And the evidence at least one Mark, is that we hunger for the
- 1:03word as a newborn baby does for milk Lord?
- 1:07We thank you that that appetite is there, but we do not want
- 1:10milk. We want meat, we want to grow
- 1:13and be nourished. In the things of God.
- 1:16The Deep things of God. And though we know that it is
- 1:20not enough to have your word before us and to be able to
- 1:23cleverly put things together, we need the Holy Spirit, to open
- 1:28our minds and to burn within our hearts.
- 1:31And so Lord, we just pray that you would have your way through
- 1:33this text into our lives. That every man disappear but let
- 1:37Christ be seen Christ be heard and Christ be cherished.
- 1:41As a result of our time together.
- 1:43We ask these things in Jesus name.
- 1:46Amen. If you were not here two weeks
- 1:51ago, we began our analysis of David's expedition to retrieve
- 1:57the Ark of the Covenant that was abandoned for 70-something years
- 2:02in the outskirts of Jerusalem and further out miles out from
- 2:07that main city. And David here has this praise
- 2:12worthy ambition to get this Arc and to find a permanent.
- 2:17Imminent and honorable home for this, symbol of God's divine
- 2:22presence on Earth with his people.
- 2:25And that Journey that mission is covered in this one chapter but
- 2:30you and I are going to discover that it was accomplished into
- 2:32Ventures, not because it required two assignments to get
- 2:37the job done. But because David royally no pun
- 2:42intended failed in his initial attempt to get the arc and so it
- 2:48would require for him to plan and execute a second effort and
- 2:54it will be proven Successful to have God's presence where he
- 2:59believed that belonged. Now, why did David fail?
- 3:04Very simply because he assumed that he can apply his own ideas
- 3:10and how to deal with the Holy things of God.
- 3:13And because of his willful neglect of the revealed will of
- 3:18God. And on top of that, his adoption
- 3:20of worldly methods in order to accomplish a holy thing, a good
- 3:25thing. Divine discipline was in sued
- 3:28instead of divine blessing, And so David's little parade with
- 3:34the thousands of people who are celebrating that moment.
- 3:37Quickly turn into a funeral. They're lying men.
- 3:40Dead swiftly, judged by God. And there's David with the other
- 3:45staring at the scene with these mixed emotions.
- 3:49Now, rushing into his bosom, not knowing our first, what to do.
- 3:54But now on this day on this night, we go back to that day to
- 3:57see what David will do. What is his response?
- 4:00When and how will he move forward to carry out what he
- 4:04believed God impressed on his heart to do for his glory.
- 4:08And so this is what we're going to do.
- 4:09We're going to read a few verses going to open it up and ask
- 4:12again remember our tool belts are on to see what it is that we
- 4:16think the Lord is trying to say from an initial standpoint of
- 4:20the text verse 9. Remember we're on that day.
- 4:24There's uzza dead on the threshing floor of Macon, there
- 4:28are the thousands who stopped their instruments, playing and
- 4:32verse 9. We see and David was afraid of
- 4:36the Lord that day and he said how can the Ark of the Lord come
- 4:41to me. So David was not willing to take
- 4:44the Ark of the Lord into the city of David, but David took it
- 4:48aside to the house of obededom the gittite And the Ark of the
- 4:53Lord remained In The House of obededom, the gittite three
- 4:57months and the Lord bless obededom and all his household.
- 5:03And it was told King David, the Lord has blessed the household
- 5:07of obededom and all that belongs to him because of the Ark of
- 5:12God. So David went and brought up the
- 5:15Ark of God from the house of obededom to the city of David
- 5:19with rejoicing. And when those Who Bore the Ark
- 5:22of the Lord had gone, six steps, he sacrificed an ox, and a
- 5:27fatten animal and David danced before the Lord, with all his
- 5:32might, and David was wearing a linen ephod.
- 5:36So David and all the house of Israel, brought up the Ark of
- 5:39the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.
- 5:45What stands out? What stands out?
- 5:52Yes. House of obededom.
- 6:00Yeah. Okay.
- 6:05Good question. Who are the good times?
- 6:07So that's an observation and an important one.
- 6:10Anything else. There's a lot here.
- 6:12A lot. What else?
- 6:14Stands out. Amen.
- 6:23The blessing that obit at a Edom experience.
- 6:26For three months was in direct correlation to the presence of
- 6:30God abiding in that home huge. Yes.
- 6:38Yeah, so wasn't until the blessing was known.
- 6:41That David was stirred to say. I want that for myself.
- 6:44I want this for the nation. Absolutely.
- 6:46Yes. A lot of emotion there.
- 6:57Yeah, there's a lot of people scared of emotion in the church
- 6:59for some reason. We'll cover David dancing next
- 7:02week. So if you were looking forward
- 7:03to understanding, what, David dancing meant you have to come
- 7:05next week. There's just too much in here
- 7:07before we get to that point. But good observation, anything
- 7:10else, great observations? Yes.
- 7:16Yes. The cart.
- 7:20Yes. Very good.
- 7:26They did not implement the new cards approach this time, we're
- 7:31going to find out exactly how they did it.
- 7:33Very important. Yes great.
- 7:35Anything else? Yes.
- 7:45Yes. Well it's interesting that open
- 7:56edom's name is repeated. Many times in this tax, isn't it
- 8:00good? Observation stick around
- 8:04anything else? Yes.
- 8:09Isn't that interesting? Yeah.
- 8:11After six steps, they made a sacrifice an animal sacrifice.
- 8:16Is that required? Or is it over the top?
- 8:20Hmm, see what I did there. Anything else?
- 8:25Good observations. Yes.
- 8:33What is David doing? Wearing the attire that belonged
- 8:38to the priests? Very, very, very important
- 8:44observation. Yes, cookies.
- 8:50Yes. Yes, good.
- 9:19So you went the 1st Chronicles 15, which is a huge part of this
- 9:22Bible study. David went to the word of God.
- 9:26During those three months, there is no doubt about it.
- 9:29He Revisited the scriptures to know how to go about this whole
- 9:33endeavor. Beautiful.
- 9:35Observation may be a couple of more so we can move on anything
- 9:39else. Yes, you wanted to bless
- 9:51Jerusalem and he will. Yes, he will do that.
- 9:54Anything else. One more.
- 9:59Go ahead. Good balance, right?
- 10:23He does. Well, you know, and I think from
- 10:27last week or two weeks ago, we heard how how our flesh kind of
- 10:31gets all worked up around the story with who's a dime, because
- 10:35we go that, how is that fair? How can, how can I choose to be
- 10:38doing a good thing? And God disciplining for that,
- 10:40he was just trying to help and we came to the conclusion that
- 10:42we not. How did God not strike all of
- 10:46them dead. Not just who's out.
- 10:48There is a particular instruction.
- 10:49In Numbers, Chapter 4, you don't have to turn there that He said
- 10:53God's mercy was even being shown while killing Musa.
- 10:58What was supposed to be done with the Holy things when it was
- 11:01Winter supposed to be transported from one location to
- 11:03the next, a lot of things were supposed to be done and one
- 11:05thing that we have every reason to say didn't happen in this
- 11:09text and that was to cover. Remember they were to literally
- 11:14cover the different articles in the Tabernacle so that the human
- 11:19eye would not be hold those holy things.
- 11:23There's no indication that they cover the ark.
- 11:26There is no indication that they handled it the way that the
- 11:30scriptures prescribed, and it took 20 to touch it before God
- 11:34intervened and judged. And so God's mercy was already
- 11:37at work with the various Miss handlings, leading up to Z
- 11:41touching the ark. And so, we have to understand
- 11:44that God here is not, he does have a bad day and a good day.
- 11:48God is good. All the time, all the time
- 11:51consecutively, he is Always faithful.
- 11:54He is Holy and he is loved and we will see how David responds
- 11:59to the Holiness of God in verse 9.
- 12:01David was afraid of the Lord that day.
- 12:06Question, healthy fear or unhealthy fear Godly fear that
- 12:12the Bible commands or ungodly fear that the Bible condemns.
- 12:19What do you think, who says healthy fear?
- 12:22Who says unhealthy fear? Interesting.
- 12:26That is the most hands. I've seen whenever asked that
- 12:28question on a Friday night and I've done it for seven years.
- 12:30Thank you for participating in that.
- 12:32Yes. Isn't that amazing?
- 12:34He feared, God that day. And I believe we can come to a
- 12:38clear conclusion by asking two questions.
- 12:42So we're going to see where we're going to land here based
- 12:45on these two questions. Number one, why was he afraid?
- 12:49It's very straightforward as a not.
- 12:51He was struck with fear because Moosa was struck dead and David
- 12:56had every right to think this can happen to me any second now,
- 13:01and he was so he was under that dread realizing that God's
- 13:04discipline is active, it is Swift and sometimes can be
- 13:09immediate. And so now adrenaline is pumping
- 13:12in his veins and he realizes this is not a God that you can
- 13:16play with. But that doesn't really give us
- 13:19a confident answer because all of us should have an awareness
- 13:24of God's discipline. Even as his children, all of us
- 13:27should approach him with caution.
- 13:30All of us should understand that his word is not to be tampered
- 13:32with to our liking. We should all live with that.
- 13:36I believe it's the second question which is what did this
- 13:40fear encourage David to do? The helps us know whether it was
- 13:44a healthy fear or unhealthy fear what did this?
- 13:47This fear cause David to do. He pushes the presence of God
- 13:54away. He disses himself from the Lord
- 13:58and that is enough for us to say he is operating under a slavish
- 14:03fear. Because there are those who have
- 14:09this concept of God that he is just he is Holy but they fail to
- 14:15see him in his totality. And so the only thing that they
- 14:19register and their understanding of God is he will judge me, I've
- 14:23rebelled against him. I I fail to remain in a place of
- 14:26consistent Holiness and I'm going to pay for it one day and
- 14:30the reaction to that caused them to do at least one or two
- 14:33things. One to reject the concept of All
- 14:35together and to try to silence their conscience until they feel
- 14:39like they have Liberty to do what they want without this
- 14:41disturbance, that one day that there's going to be
- 14:44accountability here. And the second thing is to not
- 14:49dismiss the reality of God, but to create an idol.
- 14:52And his name is Jesus, and he's loving and he's good and he will
- 14:56never harm anyone. You would never judge anyone and
- 15:00he Winks at my sin and he'll embrace me at the end of it all.
- 15:03In fact, he'll Embrace everybody at the end of it all.
- 15:06So you see there is this type of fear that causes us to Shun God
- 15:12or to change God, and both are wrong.
- 15:17Both are evils. And David hears is kind of doing
- 15:21that. He's saying I'm standing away
- 15:24from the I don't want to deal with this.
- 15:26And it's really a reaction that you see throughout the
- 15:29scriptures when people are in the wrong type of fear of God.
- 15:33So let me give an example, Mount Sinai.
- 15:35God shows up and displays his Splendor and His Majesty in a
- 15:38way that literally caused the people to shake in their sandals
- 15:43and an Exodus 20, 20, Moses instructs, the people to run
- 15:47from that kind of fear to escape that kind of Here.
- 15:50And he says it's so clearly and I want you to hear these words,
- 15:53he says to the people do not fear in Exodus, 20 20.
- 15:57That's an easy versus food remember for God, has come to
- 16:01test you that the fear of him, maybe before you that you may
- 16:05not send. I always I always use that
- 16:08scripture to teach on the fear of God.
- 16:10That's one of my go-to references.
- 16:11Do not fear. God has come to test you to fear
- 16:14will hold on. You just told me not to do it.
- 16:16Now, you're telling me to do it two types of fear.
- 16:19Two types of fear. And the fear here that the
- 16:22people are operating under the same, kind of feel that David
- 16:25was under. Because look at verse 21, the
- 16:27people stood far off, We don't want to come close to this God.
- 16:36We don't want to deal with them. We don't want any kind of
- 16:39relationship with him. And then what you see, Moses
- 16:42exemplifying the exact opposite attitude, the people stood far
- 16:45off while Moses Drew near. The people people stefanov,
- 16:49while Moses went into the thick Darkness into the very same
- 16:54thing that the people were terrified about Moses was
- 16:57compelled to commune with. So, there is a revelation of the
- 17:03beauty of the Lord. The Holiness of who he is, that
- 17:08causes you to actually come to him and not run from him and
- 17:13that coming to him that magnetic pulled also cause you to shun
- 17:18the evil that would offend him. Joyfully gladly that is the
- 17:22exact same thing that we see with Moses posture here.
- 17:26He has his healthy reverence, he knows who God is, but it doesn't
- 17:30discourage him. It doesn't cause him to be in
- 17:32dismay, it causes him to run to Origin.
- 17:36So, one element of the fear of the Lord is.
- 17:39Yes, there is. There is a sense of Aw, but
- 17:42there's also this fear of hurting the one that I love.
- 17:47That is an ingredient within the, the Theology of the fear of
- 17:51God. When you love someone, you fear
- 17:54to hurt that person, you've probably given a gift to
- 17:58somebody, and it was a surprise gift.
- 17:59And when they received it, they just reacted in a way that was
- 18:02beyond your expectation and you exhale, you say I was afraid
- 18:06that you wouldn't love it. I think that is a part of the
- 18:10fear of the Lord, as much as I believe that it is also an ask
- 18:13me that cause you to tremble, literally tremble before him.
- 18:17And so David here, unfortunately, pushes God away.
- 18:22And says I don't I don't want anything to do this.
- 18:24God and I take something else from this text that there are
- 18:26those who are deceived them believing that if I draw closer
- 18:29to God or if I open my life to the presence of God the lordship
- 18:34of Jesus Christ, then it's going to be a burden more than it is a
- 18:37blessing. And so I'm not interested.
- 18:43And it's a perception that he is a stingy.
- 18:47God, who just wants to suck the life out of you.
- 18:51He wants to, he wants to hinder your happiness.
- 18:54He wants to, he wants to bring limitation to your movement in
- 18:57life, you know, it's good for you.
- 19:00It's like, it's like his commands are like broccoli.
- 19:02You know, it's good for you, but you don't really like the taste
- 19:04of it. And sin is like the chocolate
- 19:07sundae that you just, you're always wanting but you know that
- 19:10it's going to hurt you in the end.
- 19:12This is that's not only wrong, that's detrimental to believe
- 19:18that. And I've heard people say I'm
- 19:20afraid that God's going to lead me in a direction that I don't
- 19:22want to go. He's going to make me marry
- 19:23somebody that. I don't want to marry is going
- 19:25to make me move somewhere. I don't want to move and so it
- 19:28doesn't really seem like there's a payoff to the lordship of
- 19:30Christ. I think I will remain autonomous
- 19:33of my existence. And so if that's you and it's
- 19:37very likely that some even one person more than one person
- 19:41might be tempted to think that from time to time realize that
- 19:44David is going to learn a lesson is going to show them the exact
- 19:46opposite that when you give your heart to him, God gives so much
- 19:51more than you can imagine so much more than you can
- 19:54comprehend. So David says, I don't want it.
- 19:58This is, this is more than I thought.
- 20:00I can't handle it and he takes a break for three months.
- 20:04That very thing that stirred him to the point where he recruited
- 20:08the nation to join him on this project.
- 20:09Now, he just puts it aside, he goes back to his throne.
- 20:13He goes back to his headquarters and just three months of doing
- 20:16day-to-day, who knows what until the news reaches his Palace?
- 20:22God is blessing obededom. But David took it aside to the
- 20:28house of obededom to get tight and he's going to find out very
- 20:31soon that God's going to bless him.
- 20:33But before we get to that point, our brother mentioned it more
- 20:36than once. In two verses we hear about this
- 20:38guy named obededom obededom obededom.
- 20:43And David says obededom it's yours and we heard he's a good
- 20:47tight. Why is that important?
- 20:52There are many references to the good side.
- 20:54One of the strongest references to the get tight is, is a guy
- 20:58that his name rhymes with if--. Goliath the gittite later on.
- 21:05In this book, he's going to be referred to as the get tight.
- 21:10Which would mean perhaps that some would believe this, that
- 21:14obededom is a Philistine. He's a gentile.
- 21:18He's a foreigner within the nation's boundaries.
- 21:25He could be someone who converted, we don't know.
- 21:27But people think just because he is referred to as a good tight
- 21:30then he is surely an outsider. And if that is the case and what
- 21:35David's doing here might be a little bit cruel.
- 21:37Because the last thing you see is God's Arc doing is judging
- 21:41somebody and he goes I don't want it to be to me.
- 21:42So like a hot potato. He passes it to the house of a
- 21:44Philistine egos God. If you're gonna do anything to
- 21:47do it in that guy's house. And we don't want to put that on
- 21:51day because that's that's not clear.
- 21:53It's just a thought but I don't believe he's a Philistine.
- 21:58Does anybody remember the chapter and First Chronicles?
- 22:00That paralleled the first attempt to David getting the
- 22:02ark? First Chronicles wife, 13.
- 22:06When you go to 1st Chronicles 15, you get the expanded details
- 22:10of this event. That is Rich with insight about
- 22:14what David thought what he said and how he went about all of
- 22:17this. And it's in that chapter in
- 22:20first Chronicles 15, that the name obededom shows up again and
- 22:24there is a link between obededom and a certain occupation that I
- 22:28believe it eliminates the possibility of him being a
- 22:32Philistine. Would you like to see it?
- 22:34So now, For the rest of this Bible study have one hand in
- 22:38first Chronicles, 15, and the other hand.
- 22:40In second, Samuel, chapter 6, go to 1st Chronicles 15.
- 22:42I want your eyes to see the text for yourself.
- 22:46And go to verse 24 quickly. And you're going to see
- 22:49something that's important. We get a list of names of the
- 22:58some of the Levites who went out to fetch for the arc from
- 23:00obededom is home. And First Chronicles 1524, let
- 23:05me just read this sheb Anaya, Jehoshaphat Nathanael homicide,
- 23:12Zachariah Benaiah and Eleazar the priest, should blow the
- 23:18trumpets before the Ark of God, obededom and G, hiya, were to be
- 23:24Gatekeepers for the arc. You read on.
- 23:29So David and the Elders of Israel and the commanders of the
- 23:32thousands went to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord,
- 23:35from the house of who obededom with rejoicing.
- 23:39So seems like the context is suggesting that the same
- 23:42obededom in verse 25 is the obedient and verse 24.
- 23:47What was obededom going to do at one point?
- 23:51Be a, what a gatekeeper who among the Israelites was allowed
- 23:56to have any type of ministry, roll around the house of God,
- 24:01The Levites. conclusion obededom was a levite, it was a levite
- 24:10and there is arguments about what it means for him to be a
- 24:12good tight, it can refer to one of the Cities there and Joshua
- 24:18If that's the case in David, learn his lesson real quick.
- 24:22He takes the ark and he sends it to obededom.
- 24:25Someone who is much more qualified actually exclusively
- 24:29qualified to be supervising, the Ark of God, and that's great.
- 24:35But I still wonder when I learned that.
- 24:36I still wonder about why obededom there was a bunch of
- 24:38Levites and could it be though? It's not clear.
- 24:42Could it be that obededom really, really wanted the Ark of
- 24:47God in his home? Upon the assumption that he
- 24:54became a gatekeeper. Meaning he was willing to occupy
- 24:59a certain role that protected the Ark of the Covenant when it
- 25:03would find a permanent home meaning what when the Ark of God
- 25:07came to his home and it left his home after 3 months.
- 25:13I don't want the presence of God to be away from me.
- 25:18I'm willing to go where it goes. And so he goes online and
- 25:22there's a position that David posted.
- 25:24We're looking for a gatekeeper for the ark obededom is all
- 25:29signed up. I want to be a gatekeeper.
- 25:32I want to be as near as I can to the very presence of God and
- 25:35it's no wonder you heard it when it came to his front step and it
- 25:39entered into his Abode. God opened the heavens and
- 25:42showered blessing upon blessing, not just on him, but on all that
- 25:46he had and he tasted the goodness of God and he couldn't
- 25:50live on without it. That's what I believe what
- 25:53happened to obededom, a levite who hunger for God's presence.
- 25:58And I believe David as a man after God's heart perceive that
- 26:01and allowed the Arctic go to his home.
- 26:04And once it left his home, obedience is, I must have it.
- 26:09I understand that God has his own home, but I want to make my
- 26:14home where he is and so he goes and for the rest of his life,
- 26:17presumably he stood at that gate.
- 26:20Just enjoying the fact that he was as near as he could be the
- 26:24presence of God. Interestingly.
- 26:31When the ark was in the house of abinadab for 20 years, remember
- 26:34that did we get any such description about blessings on
- 26:37his home? No.
- 26:41And it makes you wonder why when you see the attitude of uzza
- 26:45years later you kind of can put the two and two together.
- 26:49But with this man there is blessing for three months and I
- 26:53think it's beyond the fact that he was an Israelite.
- 26:55I think it was more than he was a levite.
- 26:57I believe is the way that he honored God's presence and
- 27:02because he honored God's presence, God blessed him.
- 27:08It is day to day. Should it be any different when
- 27:13you open your heart to the Lord? Jesus Christ.
- 27:15No, the ark is a shadow of Christ who tabernacled Among Us,
- 27:21the glory of God. And when you open your life to
- 27:24him, the home of your heart, scripture says that he abides in
- 27:29that heart, meaning he lives there.
- 27:34Well, that implies many things and one of those things is, what
- 27:38you see in obededom is life. There should be tangible
- 27:43evidence that he lives there, huh?
- 27:47I want you to think about it. We don't have a detailed list of
- 27:51the things that we're blessed wants to our came in.
- 27:53But one thing is for certain, the people who knew obededom,
- 27:58perceived, this man is blessed. And they could not separate his
- 28:02blessing from the priest. And some God to the point that
- 28:05they were talking about it with one another until it reached,
- 28:08the capital of Israel. Here's what I'm proposing to you
- 28:12today. When Christ lives in us, there
- 28:16should be things flowing out of us that others who study us,
- 28:21long enough can say, there's something different, there's
- 28:25something different. And there are so many examples
- 28:28of this in the New Testament and one that came to mind is a fit,
- 28:31very famous passage that people often refer to, in order to
- 28:35encourage the, people of God, to know how to do apologetics and
- 28:38to know enough about the faith so that you can And yourself.
- 28:41When somebody says, why do you have this hope what reference is
- 28:45that? First.
- 28:48Yes. Three. 15, so turn there, and I
- 28:52want you to see that for yourself first, Peter 3:15
- 28:55notice what Peter says about. Believers, there's something in
- 28:59them. There's something in them.
- 29:05There's something in US. And first Peter 3:15.
- 29:17People of memorize this verse, it's a well-known scripture, but
- 29:20in your hearts honor Christ, the lord, as holy always being
- 29:25prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason
- 29:30for the hope that is in you yet do it with gentleness and
- 29:33respect. So I've seen many people come to
- 29:36this, Texas a church. We need to know how to defend
- 29:39our faith. We need to know how to answer
- 29:41people's objections and skepticism.
- 29:44So here's some resources, and here's some Isabel
- 29:47understandings of the belief of this faith and not faith.
- 29:49And this is how you can answer it.
- 29:51That's good, that's important. It's so much deeper than that.
- 29:56My whole life. When I've heard people refer to
- 29:58this text, they refer to the second part and I rarely hear
- 30:02them use the first part because here's here's my question.
- 30:06Coming to this verse, I love asking the Bible questions.
- 30:09And one of the things I asked is well, why would anyone even ask
- 30:15me about the hope that is in me unless there's something about
- 30:19me that causes them to ask? Is that a valid question?
- 30:24Why would anybody say hey can you explain this hope that you
- 30:29have in this thing that you call the gospel?
- 30:31Why would anybody even ask that to begin with unless there is
- 30:35something observable for them to be curious?
- 30:42So, I put that question aside and here's my other question and
- 30:44I think it's a more important question.
- 30:47How? How and what needs to be done in
- 30:52order for that possibility to be more real?
- 30:57What is it that needs to be done in me for people to say, hey,
- 31:01why do you have this hope? And the answer is in the same
- 31:05verse Did you see it? What was the first instruction
- 31:09before knowing how to defend your faith?
- 31:12Verse 15. Honor Christ.
- 31:19As hope. Be honest, maybe you have heard,
- 31:22I have it. I have never ever heard anybody
- 31:25refer to that instruction. Before completing this verse,
- 31:31what does it mean to honor Christ?
- 31:32Is holding some translations, I'm curious.
- 31:35What does it say in the King James sky?
- 31:40I like that sanctify, the Lord, as holy Okay.
- 31:48Sanctify him. Which that word Sanctified means
- 31:50to set apart which implies to make holy Sanctify.
- 31:54The Lord or in your hearts. Honor Christ as holy.
- 31:59What does that mean? Because it influences the second
- 32:04part by the way and if we're Christians were serious about
- 32:07our witness then we won't be just serious about gathering
- 32:10information and knowing how to answer difficult questions will
- 32:12be serious about the first part just as much.
- 32:16Honor Christ, as holy. Here's what it means in your
- 32:21heart. In your heart Elevate Christ, to
- 32:27be the primary object of your affection of your Adoration of
- 32:32your devotion of your submission.
- 32:34That's what it means. Let him have preeminence over
- 32:39your life. Let him be the head.
- 32:42Let him be the control center. Let him be everything to you.
- 32:46That's what it means. Let him have a category of love
- 32:50in your heart that nothing else will be.
- 32:54Challenging. That's what it means to honor
- 32:57crisis, holy sanctify him Elevate them exalt him, place
- 33:02them there as a supreme treasure and the light of who you are.
- 33:06And here's here's what will happen when you do that.
- 33:10It will do something in you and through you to such a degree
- 33:15that others will say possibly there's something different
- 33:19about you. Can I know more?
- 33:24And I wonder if this part has been neglected and the emphasis
- 33:29on just stuffing our minds with the ability to know how to
- 33:32answer Muslims and Buddhists and Mormons.
- 33:36I wonder if our witness has been hindered because we haven't done
- 33:39the first part. Honor Christ is Holy.
- 33:44Honor Christ is Holy. Something is unlocked.
- 33:47Their something happens, they're just like oh but edom's home
- 33:52because he treated it with this reverence and when he treated
- 33:55with such Holiness, all the blessings started to flow,
- 34:01something started to Sparkle, something started to shine to
- 34:06the point where it was radiating out of the windows.
- 34:08And people were saying, oh, to be you, something's happening
- 34:10here knocking on his door. What's going on here?
- 34:13Oh, it's the are Ever since it came just changed everything.
- 34:15Do you see the connection? Do you see the connection honor
- 34:19crisis? Holy and it can have such a
- 34:22radiating effect that people who walk by or people who are around
- 34:26you long enough can say, Why is it that you are this way?
- 34:31And in fact, when you understand the hope, That Peter is calling
- 34:36the Believers to have. And to explain it has a context.
- 34:42In the context is in verse 14. So you're still there, right?
- 34:44Look at verse 14. And notice what Peter says.
- 34:49But even if you should suffer for righteousness sake, you will
- 34:53be blessed. Have no fear of them nor be
- 34:56troubled. And then he goes on to say,
- 34:58honor Christ, but honor Christ in your heart.
- 35:01As holy, Peter is speaking to persecuted Christians who are
- 35:06suffering at the hands of authorities who are Godless and
- 35:10making their lives difficult. And it is with that context.
- 35:14She says Christ is in you. and because Christ is in you, even
- 35:20though you were suffering for righteousness sake, you have the
- 35:25ability to cause others who see that you are suffering to say,
- 35:29how is it that you're able to have so much hope?
- 35:33Even though these things are happening to you, even though
- 35:35they fired you, even though the taking away your possessions,
- 35:38even though there's slandering your name, how is it that you
- 35:41have hope? So I argue just like obededom
- 35:45things have Their Blessings. This piece, this Joy, the
- 35:48stability, and what a word for us in this day.
- 35:53People are fearful, people are questioning, people are in
- 35:56panic. He had to church.
- 35:59The church should be strong. And Shining with this hole,
- 36:03Brothers. Who say what is it?
- 36:05How is it that you guys are not affected by what's happening?
- 36:09And so I want to tell you today, do you long for that?
- 36:11If you long for things to impact others, it begins within your
- 36:15hearts, honoring crisis. Holy, that's where it's our and
- 36:18let the let the rest just flow. Let the rest just happen.
- 36:23You'd be amazed you'd be amazed to see how people will take
- 36:26notice. Even though they don't vocalize
- 36:28it, they will take notice. So we come back to 2nd Samuel.
- 36:36The news about the blessings, eventually reached David.
- 36:38And in awakened him, I want this for my life.
- 36:40I want this for the nation. But this time he was going to go
- 36:44about it in a completely different way.
- 36:48And we heard the first Chronicles 15, right?
- 36:51You want to see how he did it? We heard it already, but in
- 36:53first Chronicles 15, remember, one hand and second, Samuel, one
- 36:57hand and First Chronicles, so should be able to flip back and
- 36:59forth easily in first Chronicles 15 he says a lot.
- 37:04But notice what he says in verse 12 and First Chronicles 15 he
- 37:07looks at the Levites and now again Your tool belt is on.
- 37:13I want you to notice it. Give me some things that you
- 37:15see. When I read this, that are
- 37:16important. And said to them, you are the
- 37:20heads of the fathers, houses of the Levites consecrate
- 37:23yourselves, you, and your brother's.
- 37:25So that you may bring up the Ark of the Lord, the god of Israel
- 37:28to the place that I have prepared for it because you did
- 37:31not carry it. The first time, the Lord, Our
- 37:33God broke out against us because we did not seek Him.
- 37:37According to the rule, What stands out to this?
- 37:46Two things come to mind. I'm sure they're more but
- 37:48there's two things that are vital.
- 37:50What stands out to this? What about this?
- 37:59His mistake. He says we didn't do it the way.
- 38:00The Bible says to do it. Let's go back to the book that's
- 38:03the first thing in his own words.
- 38:05We did not seek Him according to the rule and like our brother
- 38:09said, I'm sure David went back to his home and he asked for the
- 38:12Scrolls. And if he was a righteous King
- 38:15in this regard, he would had a copy of God's word.
- 38:18According to Deuteronomy 17, he would have studied And come to
- 38:22the conclusion. We did it wrong.
- 38:25Some would say that he knew what he was doing wrong, that could
- 38:27be true as well. Regardless, he went back to the
- 38:31source, the answers were there, we have to do it according to
- 38:35the rule. And, you know, here's the thing,
- 38:40somebody said, it two weeks ago when we looked at David's
- 38:42initial humility, when remember First Chronicles 13?
- 38:46He asked the leaders and he asked the people.
- 38:48Hey, what do you guys think? If we grab the ark, we praise
- 38:50them for his humility there. We said wow, what a leader, he
- 38:54didn't force himself on others, his spirituality was attractive,
- 38:57it wasn't repulsive. And and there is a Grace that he
- 39:00says why don't we go do this together?
- 39:02My heart is for the presence of God.
- 39:04Come on, let's do this. But here is his problem even in
- 39:07that, he did not. Old God, a church, any ministry
- 39:11will get in a lot of trouble when they treat Ministry and and
- 39:16the local fold as a democracy. Meaning what we start asking
- 39:21people their opinions and we take votes and stuff.
- 39:23I'm not against congregationalism where they
- 39:25have that system. I'm saying when we run to the
- 39:27people, and when we think we can get their ideas and based on
- 39:31their ideas will move forward, and don't go to the word we're
- 39:33in trouble. The word has to have supreme
- 39:36authority over all of us and that's where blessings come.
- 39:41And so David here, he got a vote but he didn't get God's voice.
- 39:45He got the majority but he didn't get God's approval.
- 39:48So he says, we're going back to the world, that's where we're
- 39:50safe. And that's where God will open
- 39:52his Blessing. But there's a second thing he
- 39:54didn't just say, we're going back to the rule.
- 39:58He said something else initially, what is he saying?
- 40:03Consecrate yourselves. You want to Modern version clean
- 40:07up your life. That's what he's saying that's
- 40:11important because to David, it wasn't enough for everybody to
- 40:15cross every T into dot every I and to just have everything in
- 40:20place. The way the Bible says, and then
- 40:21just could do it with whoever no.
- 40:26It's more than just having an accurate biblically accurate
- 40:29Church government, it's more than having scripturally sound
- 40:32hymns and worship songs. It's more than just preaching.
- 40:35Verse by verse our pastor preaches biblically, it's more
- 40:38than having everything in place because none of that means
- 40:41anything. If those who occupy, those
- 40:44ministerial positions are Unholy It wasn't just concerned about
- 40:51doing the bare minimum here. Let's just just, let's just try
- 40:55to do this and he says, no, no, no, we have to be holy our
- 40:59personalized. I'd be right.
- 41:01Not just me coming up on the stage and being somebody for for
- 41:04half an hour and then I'm something else out there, you
- 41:06know, we must consecrate ourselves.
- 41:10And this is what he was calling for, and the people obeyed.
- 41:15And so the sounds kind of daunting right?
- 41:16I mean because we hear what we hear strict adherence, we hear a
- 41:22high spiritual standard for those who would serve at any
- 41:24capacity that sounds difficult. That sounds disheartening.
- 41:28That sounds scary for some And so Satan would say rules rules.
- 41:34Really God is not a god of rules, you don't have to worry
- 41:36about that. God is flexible.
- 41:37You can bend things around. It's all right.
- 41:40Here's the thing, here's what's amazing.
- 41:43When David did have his own way when he went for the ark
- 41:45initially what did I do to him? What were the two emotions that
- 41:48he felt? Fear was one in the what?
- 41:51There was one before that anger. Behold the life of somebody who
- 41:56wants to play it by their own rules.
- 41:58You want to relate to God the way you think you want to relate
- 42:00to God. You're not going to get his
- 42:02Blessing, you're going to get turmoil, you're going to get
- 42:04confusion, you're going to get hollowness.
- 42:07You're going to get all this things that you don't want that.
- 42:10You think you would Escape by saying, I'm going to do it my
- 42:14way and in fact, you and Harold the total opposite And when
- 42:21David does say consecrate yourselves, they obey when he
- 42:23says, we're going back to the book and we're going to stay as
- 42:26close as possible to the instructions of God, two things
- 42:29happen. Two, things happen that didn't
- 42:32happen when he said. I think that I'm just going to
- 42:35walk with my own wisdom and my own understanding of what a
- 42:38Christian should be two things happen.
- 42:41You scroll down and look what happens in verse 25 and First
- 42:44Chronicles 15. So David and the Elders of
- 42:48Israel and the commanders of thousands went to bring up the
- 42:52Ark of the Covenant of the Lord from the house of obededom with
- 42:55what Rejoice rejoice in joy. genuine heartfelt deep-seated
- 43:05joy in the place of what in the lane of ready for this rule,
- 43:10keeping Actually taking God at his word, as, and trying to be
- 43:15as close to obeying it as possible in that World.
- 43:19The Joy open up. Jesus says these things I have
- 43:23spoken to you that your joy may be full.
- 43:29Even before they says that, my joy may be in, you understand?
- 43:34That Christ wants to impart his joy, and it can only be
- 43:38experienced in the place of these things.
- 43:41I have spoken to you. Lord, what did you say?
- 43:43I will do it. He says here's a joy and he says
- 43:46my joy. You know what that means?
- 43:47Supernatural, Joy Christ, being Supernatural himself saying I'm
- 43:51going to give you something that nothing in this world can even
- 43:54come close to and the place of obedience so Joy.
- 43:59There is real Joy. Can I prove it to you?
- 44:02Can I put you have seen miserable Christians my whole
- 44:04life, I've seen them happy and sometimes and other times, just
- 44:06miserable and the happiest you've ever been, right?
- 44:09Is when you were closest to Jesus.
- 44:13And when you got busy. And it began to affect your
- 44:17schedule and it began to affect your time with the Lord and your
- 44:20time here on the house of God, and you see now worldliness
- 44:23creeping in you were distracted but you weren't joyful.
- 44:28You had little fireworks of excitement, but it quickly
- 44:32turned into smoke. The most miserable that you have
- 44:35ever been is when you are furthest from God and the most
- 44:38joyful, and the most energetic you've been is when you're
- 44:42closest to, it's super easy. When you first got saved, what
- 44:46happened? Your world revolves around
- 44:49Christ and if felt like you were floating every day you can just
- 44:52walk through walls. Almost nothing can stop you and
- 44:56you see that is the joy that Christ wants us to walk in.
- 45:02And that can only come when you're totally sold out there.
- 45:06When you're like David, and you have these mixed Ambitions?
- 45:09I want the Ark of God, but I want the new cart from
- 45:11philistine. It's not going to happen and
- 45:15here's what else not going to happen.
- 45:17Look at the second thing that ensued in verse 26.
- 45:20And because God helped the Levites who were carrying the
- 45:24Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. They sacrifice seven, bowls and
- 45:27seven Rams. What happened?
- 45:30God, help them. God help them when they did it
- 45:35with the new cart that God help them.
- 45:37He let the things stumble, who's a put out his hand, he dies when
- 45:41these men took the ark, put it on their shoulders with those
- 45:45poles and they started to head towards Jerusalem it says God
- 45:50came and he helped them And here's here's the messed-up
- 45:55thing, right? We think that, if we do Church,
- 45:57the worldly way, if we do our personal walk with the Lord, the
- 46:00worldly way, it will be lighter, it'll be easier.
- 46:03It'll be happier. All the while we stumble along
- 46:08the way and yet the very thing that intimidates people, the
- 46:12very thing that people don't believe can work like preaching
- 46:15the Bible, just the way it is and having true church and not
- 46:19just entertainment. And not trying to win people
- 46:21with means that are silly and shallow when we do it, the way
- 46:26God does it as much as it's demanding as much as it may not
- 46:29be popular. God's help.
- 46:30Is there he comes to assist you. Now that might not mean much to
- 46:35you because you're not in a position of leadership in a
- 46:37church. So let me personalize it.
- 46:40God is ready to help you forgive.
- 46:44Because you know why people don't forgive their empowered by
- 46:47holding something against somebody else?
- 46:49When you don't forgive you, I have something against you,
- 46:52right? This is how sick we are, because
- 46:54the person that hurt us, we let them know, we're still hurt, and
- 46:56we see that that hurts them, and that makes us feel good.
- 46:59That's sick. That's who we are though.
- 47:02And so, when Jesus says, forgive forget the past, I don't hold
- 47:06that person's past against them. Why are you keep bringing it up?
- 47:08And you can't seem to do it. He's ready to help you.
- 47:12He's ready to help you. But you have to step out in
- 47:15obedience Purity, right? In the sexually-charged world.
- 47:20You can't go on and any kind of Avenue on your phone.
- 47:22You can't do almost anything in our city without some kind of
- 47:25pornographic thing popping in your face.
- 47:28Purity is a possible. It's possible.
- 47:30He's ready to help you anger, anger rage.
- 47:32Right. You're angry person, right?
- 47:36He's ready to help you. With anything you think is so
- 47:40difficult and you think that you can substitute it with your own
- 47:43Silly ideas or excuses, let that die like uzza died.
- 47:48Trust God's word, walk in faith and watch the help cop.
- 47:52Watch his grace meet you in that place.
- 47:56So, they experience this help. And they're walking, and they
- 48:00sensed this grace. And we come back to 2nd Samuel
- 48:04and we have two verses left and we're done.
- 48:06If we thought that this was unusual.
- 48:10David is going to do something. More unusual.
- 48:15Somebody observed, in our initial reading verse 13 and
- 48:20those Who Bore the Ark of the Lord had gone, six steps.
- 48:23He sacrificed an ox and a fat and animal.
- 48:27Here's my question, is that required in the law?
- 48:31Is there any command that you can find in the Old Testament
- 48:33says, when the arc goes out, six steps stop build an altar of
- 48:39burnt some animals. No, it's not.
- 48:44It's not found anywhere. Not even slightly suggested
- 48:47anyway. So then what's the next
- 48:49question? Why did he do it?
- 48:52You have some who believe that David actually did this every
- 48:55six steps and I can see how they can read that into it.
- 48:59But there is a verse that challenges that idea.
- 49:04He imagined every six step stopping and making a sacrifice.
- 49:06I mean, as much as that sounds crazy, when you see what Solomon
- 49:10did at the inauguration of the temple, he sacrificed thousands
- 49:15upon thousands of animals, so then you're like, maybe it is
- 49:17possible, but I don't think that's what David David is doing
- 49:20your I think after the first six steps, right?
- 49:22So you have these guys, they're carrying 12 and I'm not going to
- 49:26do the six steps, David stop. Build an altar, get the animals.
- 49:33Let's sacrifice unto the Lord. Any idea, why he did this?
- 49:42Okay, you're on to something but not yet.
- 49:45There's something there though, you're very close.
- 49:47But why does he doing why is he doing this?
- 49:54So, is there a connection between David not experiencing
- 49:58God's judgment and him responding to that reality?
- 50:02So there's that. Any other idea?
- 50:09Okay, so to six steps to get out of the house and once they got
- 50:12out of the house, like okay, here we are.
- 50:14But what does that have to do with the sacrifice then?
- 50:22What did you say? Because of what, You have it.
- 50:28The answer is actually in the verse and First Chronicles 25
- 50:30that we just covered, it's actually tells us right there
- 50:34first Chronicles 15 verse 26 and because God helped the Levites
- 50:41who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord.
- 50:44They sacrifice seven, bowls and seven Rams.
- 50:47That's why So David knowing that, I don't know what he saw,
- 50:53but he saw the Lord, assisting these men and blessing their
- 50:58Journey even early on to the point.
- 51:00Where says everyone stop. Let's give thanks to the Lord,
- 51:05so they get the altar, they get the animals and they worship
- 51:08God. And In the Flesh and the
- 51:11natural, we would look at that and some would criticize and say
- 51:16why are you taking your time? We don't need to do all of this,
- 51:19we can get to Jerusalem. Faster, and have a bigger
- 51:21celebration, you're hindering, the journey.
- 51:24Come on, let's go. It's the same kind of critical
- 51:27attitude that Mary of Bethany experienced.
- 51:29Remember, when she broke open, that Alabaster flask imported an
- 51:33anointed Jesus, and Judas. And the disciple says, why this
- 51:37waste you didn't have to do this.
- 51:40In fact, We could have used this for something else.
- 51:45The enemy tends to try to convince us and the Flesh and
- 51:50our own mind that we give more to God.
- 51:54It's not really beneficial. There's no need to do more than
- 51:59what he asks of us. Just do the bare minimum, give
- 52:03him what he ordered and move on. Right?
- 52:09But there are people and it's it breaks my heart to say that it's
- 52:13not Collective. I wish it was.
- 52:16But there are others who have experienced something of God,
- 52:22who have tasted something like, David, tasted of the goodness of
- 52:24God, seeing his help in the legs of these priests moving forward
- 52:29to such a degree that they can't help.
- 52:30But gold more than what God asked of them.
- 52:34It's not legalism. If you're doing out of joy,
- 52:38There are some people who say Sunday morning church his not
- 52:41enough. I want to be in a house of God
- 52:43as much as possible. I know some people schedules.
- 52:46I'll permit that I'm talking about the heart desire.
- 52:48How I want to be where the Lord's people are?
- 52:50I want to hear more about God. I want to sing more to the Lord.
- 52:54And so they come and you have people say why why is it Sunday
- 52:58afternoon up? It's not legalism.
- 53:00It's because they've been touched by the Lord.
- 53:03You have people who pray and they don't just pray and give
- 53:06God a grocery list, so they can go on with their day.
- 53:08They pray and they stayed in a personalized, way, in a private
- 53:11way. They Worship the Lord, they love
- 53:13the Lord, they Adorn him with their praises and people think
- 53:15it's strange. Why are you doing that?
- 53:17Why? Why this sacrifice?
- 53:21It's not, it's you don't have to do that.
- 53:23I know I don't have to I want to He's worthy.
- 53:27This is what he's done and it pulls something out of me.
- 53:31More than just the bottom of the barrel.
- 53:35Of my life. I think that's what David is
- 53:37demonstrating here. He didn't have to, he wanted to,
- 53:41I want to get to that place where I walk with the Lord,
- 53:44where I understand what he's done in my life to such a degree
- 53:46that it naturally, just pulls more out of me.
- 53:50And I gladly, give it to him, let people criticize all they
- 53:54want. People want to be spiritual
- 53:56skeletons, looking to be spiritual skeletons.
- 54:00He sacrifice an ox and with fatten animal but no one is what
- 54:04he does. In verse 14, and this is where
- 54:05we're concluding and David danced before the Lord and makes
- 54:09people very uncomfortable. Something AMA Nations, more than
- 54:13others. David danced before the Lord
- 54:17with all his might? We'll cover that next week but
- 54:21the second part of the verse is what you should look into.
- 54:25David was wearing a linen. Ephod Linen ephod.
- 54:32A Priestly garment. It's, it's there in the Old
- 54:38Testament where that is a part of their outfit.
- 54:44And some would look at this and say, there's no problem here
- 54:47because David is actually demonstrated humility.
- 54:50He disrobed himself from his royalty and he puts on a an
- 54:55apron like things so that he can relate and blend in with the
- 54:58priests and not stand out the arc, the presence of God.
- 55:01That's the true king, not David, not David.
- 55:04I'm just, I'm just an ordinary servant of God, like these
- 55:06others who are going with me others would add to that and
- 55:08say, well, Samuel little Samuel and first Samuel to we're told
- 55:13that he wore Linden. Thought and so David, wearing it
- 55:16is not a big deal but there's a problem there.
- 55:19Samuel is is from what lineage? Is he from Judah?
- 55:24Or is he from a different tribe? How could even become a priest?
- 55:28A few was not a He was Levi, say it was a Levi.
- 55:34He's one of the descendants of Korah.
- 55:38So Samuel makes sense for him to wear a linen.
- 55:41Ephod, Samuel was being raised up to be a priest and to give
- 55:45him a little leaf onto it was cute.
- 55:47And it was, it was a statement there that he was set apart unto
- 55:49God. David is not from Levi.
- 55:54David is from where. Jude, he's from the tribe of
- 55:58Judah. There's a lot of if you continue
- 56:03this chapter there, a lot of connotations there are a lot of
- 56:07little hints of Priestly activity that David performs can
- 56:11I give an example to scroll down to verse 18 very quickly.
- 56:17And when David had finished, offering the burnt offerings and
- 56:19the peace offerings. He blessed, the people, in the
- 56:22name of the Lord of hosts, So someone say, that's not David
- 56:27doing it, that's the priest doing it through his command,
- 56:30okay? But even the second part, where
- 56:32he blesses people, in the name of the Lord, that's what priests
- 56:34do. So you get these hints of David
- 56:39dressing like and acting like a what priest?
- 56:46Somebody got in a lot of trouble for most for, assuming the role
- 56:49of a priest. Remember him?
- 56:52Yes. Saul did not wait for Samuel
- 56:56early on in his ministry when he went to war with the Philistines
- 56:58and he builds an altar and he performs a sacrifice and got
- 57:02held it against them. David here.
- 57:07Wearing a linen ephod. And if 18 we take it literally
- 57:12he's somewhat participating in the offerings and he he assumes
- 57:18this blessing upon others as though he has some kind of
- 57:21authority Spiritual Authority. Why?
- 57:29how is he chosen to be, what did he Okay, you have to prove it
- 57:36though. Did God choose him to be a
- 57:39priest? He's anointed by the Lord to be
- 57:43a priest. He's a prophet.
- 57:47He is a prophet acts tells us he's a prophet.
- 57:54Okay, what does it say? Is that speaking about David
- 58:10though? Why is David wearing a linen?
- 58:13Ephod? Okay, so you, I see what you're
- 58:40saying, maybe the priests allowed him to say David, it's
- 58:42okay, you're, you're close to us.
- 58:43We know who you are, you can have, I don't know.
- 58:46That's, I understand where you're coming from.
- 58:47That's a, that's a interesting way of looking at it.
- 58:52You can see why people are wrestle with this, right?
- 58:54And they just want to kind of just shoo it away to say, it's
- 58:58not as a it's not a big deal for him to wear this, it's just a
- 59:01cloth. It's not really the Priestly
- 59:02garments and so they kind of just want to not deal with it.
- 59:07A couple more before moving on. Why would this and you're going
- 59:12to find out later on, in our studies second saying, I brought
- 59:14this up to a few people, you can actually realize that we're told
- 59:18in second Samuel, that David's Sons.
- 59:21Were what? Priest.
- 59:25Priest. What's happening here?
- 59:29That's exclusive to the Levites. What are people from Judah doing
- 59:35operating in the same capacity as priests will get there but
- 59:40let's just deal with this for now.
- 59:42A couple more in the Moon. Yeah.
- 1:00:06Okay, so he's kind of filling in the role in the transition with
- 1:00:10Samuel who is a prophet priest. I these are these are
- 1:00:14interesting points for sure. Yes.
- 1:00:28Great observation. Did you guys hear that when
- 1:00:31David took the holy bread back in first Samuel, nothing nothing
- 1:00:36happened to him, then when that was solely reserved for the
- 1:00:38priests. So you have these again, you
- 1:00:41have these little things that are happening in David's life
- 1:00:45where he reaches into the lane of priesthood and he does a
- 1:00:49couple things and God doesn't seem to intervene like he did
- 1:00:53with saw one more of them and explain my Ah, did you hear
- 1:01:00that? Is there something there?
- 1:01:05In light of Jesus Christ. Okay, let's stop here.
- 1:01:09Right. David wrote, one of the clearest
- 1:01:14Messianic songs that is often quoted in the New Testament,
- 1:01:20does anybody know what song I'm talking about?
- 1:01:2222 is a good one, but not 22, not to.
- 1:01:25That's a good one though. Nope, clothes. 110.
- 1:01:32Go to Psalm 110. Once you see you're going to
- 1:01:34say, oh, okay, I know it's something that that is Psalm
- 1:01:38110. The Lord says to my Lord,
- 1:01:47remember when Jesus used that. Sit at my right hand until I
- 1:01:53make your enemies your footstool.
- 1:01:57The Lord sends forth, from Zion, your Mighty scepter rule in the
- 1:02:01midst of your enemies. David's son his descendant.
- 1:02:07And remember, David wrote this song.
- 1:02:09David's son. Would be his Lord.
- 1:02:16And Jesus used that against the religious leaders of his day to
- 1:02:19say, how could he be his son while also being his Lord?
- 1:02:24He knew the scriptures is amazing.
- 1:02:27And so David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,
- 1:02:30at one point in his life, understood that my seed.
- 1:02:35Will be the Messiah, God himself.
- 1:02:39And as we read in verse two, Mighty scepter, rule in the
- 1:02:43midst of your enemies. What is that?
- 1:02:45What does that imply? He's going to be a king.
- 1:02:49But just the king, go to verse 4.
- 1:02:53The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind.
- 1:02:56You are priest forever. after the order of who not Aaron
- 1:03:03Melchizedek, So, track with me here, David under the
- 1:03:08inspiration of the Holy Spirit has a revelation, my seed.
- 1:03:13My son will be king, but he will also be my Lord.
- 1:03:18There's something Divine about that.
- 1:03:20It goes beyond that though. He goes, not only is he going to
- 1:03:23be a king, he's going to be a priest.
- 1:03:27And here's was astounding. You never had a marriage of
- 1:03:30those two roles. It was never legitimised in the
- 1:03:33Old Testament, the kings were Kings.
- 1:03:35The priests were priests, and whenever a king, try to be a
- 1:03:39priest. Remember, remember was I right?
- 1:03:43He went into the temple and he tried to give offering, and
- 1:03:4580-something priest, right in. And they said, you're not
- 1:03:47supposed to be doing that, and he was struck with Leprosy.
- 1:03:50So Kings were in one lane. Priests were another, they there
- 1:03:53was. But this, this this son of
- 1:03:55David, there's gonna be like a hybrid.
- 1:03:57He's going to be a king and a priest that alone is mind
- 1:04:01blowing to the Jew, But it's even more than that because you
- 1:04:05would think, okay, you are a priest Forever After the order
- 1:04:08of Aaron. after the order of Melchizedek, Mackenzie deck is
- 1:04:17only mentioned like really in three parts of the Bible.
- 1:04:20Genesis Psalm 110 Hebrews chapter 7.
- 1:04:23There's not much said about him. That's by Divine Design.
- 1:04:26Hebrews tells us why God the Holy Spirit omit certain details
- 1:04:30about Melchizedek namely. We don't know where he's from,
- 1:04:34we don't know his lineage and we don't know when and how he died.
- 1:04:38when is Melchizedek first mentioned in the Bible, Genesis
- 1:04:43and 14 verse 18. You have to go there to see how
- 1:04:47this relates to David to a certain extent.
- 1:04:50Genesis 14 18, He was a king. you know, Genesis 14, 18,
- 1:05:01Genesis 14, 18, And Melchizedek. King of Salem.
- 1:05:09Brought out Bread and Wine like come on brought out Bread and
- 1:05:14Wine. He was Priest of God, most high.
- 1:05:20Now kids are the king of Salem brought out Bread and Wine.
- 1:05:23He was Priest of God, most high. He appears out of nowhere
- 1:05:28mysteriously just appears on the scene comes before Abraham.
- 1:05:31Abraham recognizes something so Superior of him that he's
- 1:05:36compelled to give a tithe to him Melchizedek blesses Abraham.
- 1:05:42And as I said, the obscurity of Melchizedek the omission of
- 1:05:46certain details, the author of Hebrews use, That to make a case
- 1:05:52for Jesus. Don't lift your hand unless you
- 1:05:56want to show me. Do you believe now?
- 1:05:59Keswick was Jesus. He wasn't because in Hebrews 7,
- 1:06:04we read that Melchizedek. Jesus coming from, his
- 1:06:10priesthood was like him, he wasn't him.
- 1:06:13So, Melchizedek is not Jesus, just to clarify that, right?
- 1:06:16He's a separate individual. He's an actual priest.
- 1:06:21And Jesus is priesthood. Comes from him. and the fact
- 1:06:27that you don't know where he came from and how he left The
- 1:06:32author of Hebrews uses that to make a case for the eternality
- 1:06:34of Jesus in his divine nature and in his priesthood, its
- 1:06:39unending, never had really a Jesus, never had a beginning.
- 1:06:43He doesn't have an end and like Melchizedek the obscurity of the
- 1:06:47blurriness around him is to signify that Jesus in the
- 1:06:52literal substance form is without beginning Without End.
- 1:06:58Tracking with me so far. Okay good.
- 1:06:59I hope so. Just talk to me afterwards if
- 1:07:01you didn't. So let's let's backtrack for a
- 1:07:04second. David had a revelation, my son
- 1:07:08is going to be a king, he's going to be my Lord but it's
- 1:07:11also going to be a priest not after Aaron, but after
- 1:07:14Melchizedek. Okay.
- 1:07:17But when you come to Genesis 14 18, you realize that Melchizedek
- 1:07:20there's individual Was a priest of God most high, but he was
- 1:07:25also the king of Salem. West Salem.
- 1:07:36Prove it. Sounds like Jerusalem.
- 1:07:43If it's Jerusalem and this is, this is massive.
- 1:07:48King of Salem. If you're a note taker or if you
- 1:07:53have really good memory here's how you know Salem is Jerusalem.
- 1:07:58Ready Psalm 76 verse 1 and verse 2, Psalm 76 verse 1 and verse 2
- 1:08:09tells us That's Salem is Jerusalem.
- 1:08:20In Judah, God is known. his name is great in Israel, his Abode
- 1:08:27has been established where And Salem his Dwelling Place in
- 1:08:33Zaire. Now, we know that the dwelling
- 1:08:37place of God, what end up in Jerusalem and the author of this
- 1:08:41song uses the ancient reference for Jerusalem that we find in
- 1:08:46Genesis, 14, 18 and I believe the Holy Spirit did that by
- 1:08:49Design. So that when you would see that
- 1:08:51Melchizedek was the king of Salem, and you kept reading your
- 1:08:53Bible and came to some 76. You would realize that Salem was
- 1:08:57Jerusalem, So Melchizedek was the king of where Jerusalem at
- 1:09:04one point. Jerusalem before it was
- 1:09:07recognized as the city of David. Yes, but Jerusalem nonetheless.
- 1:09:13Here's what I'm proposing. It's not dogmatic.
- 1:09:17Could it be just, could it be that David being a prophet and
- 1:09:24having a level of revelation of the Messiah, that would come
- 1:09:28from his seed? He knew that his son would be a
- 1:09:34king. My Lord, a priest, after the
- 1:09:39order of Melchizedek and knowing Genesis Melchizedek was a king
- 1:09:46and priest from where Jerusalem. My son one day is going to be
- 1:09:55king and priest. We're in Jerusalem.
- 1:09:59That's where we're waiting in the second coming.
- 1:10:02He's going to come and set up his Rule and reign in Jerusalem.
- 1:10:09Could it be that with that understanding when David became
- 1:10:13king of Jerusalem in the very text that we are studying?
- 1:10:19Maybe I'm allowed to wear a little ephod.
- 1:10:23I'm king of Jerusalem. And Melchizedek priest king.
- 1:10:30My son is going to be king and priest.
- 1:10:32I'm not going to obstruct the lineage of air and I'm not gonna
- 1:10:35obstruct what God is established through Aaron.
- 1:10:38But let me just where literally fought for now and let me just
- 1:10:41let me just help a little bit here with some of the sacrifice.
- 1:10:43Let me just pronounce one blessing.
- 1:10:46I wonder if David was just entertaining the thought knowing
- 1:10:51what the Holy Spirit revealed about him his son and that royal
- 1:10:56priesthood how there would come one day someone from Judah.
- 1:11:02Who would have a greater priesthood than that of Aaron?
- 1:11:06It would be a greater King than all the other kings that came
- 1:11:09from David seed. Could it be that when you put
- 1:11:12the pieces together in this moment?
- 1:11:15David was just entertaining. The idea for himself knowing his
- 1:11:19history and knowing his future is in the, the Bible.
- 1:11:23Amazing is in the word of God. Wonderful.
- 1:11:25Let's pray. Thank God for this.
- 1:11:43But we are amazed at your word. We are overwhelmed by Your Word,
- 1:11:50Lord. You are the author of this word.
- 1:11:53We Rejoice at your word as a song.
- 1:11:55Say we Rejoice at your word. Lord tonight on this Friday
- 1:12:01evening. We want to thank you for
- 1:12:04touching our hearts. Thank you, Lord, for the word
- 1:12:08richly abiding in us and Lord. At this time, we respond to the
- 1:12:13things that we have just listened to and absorbed.
- 1:12:17And we give you glory and we say thank you Lord.
- 1:12:20Thank you, Lord, that you have shown us that you living in us
- 1:12:24at you being Lord. Over us, is a blessing is not a
- 1:12:28burden. You don't destroy You don't kill
- 1:12:35you, don't give less you, give more you complete, you bring
- 1:12:40abundance and or we have all experienced that and we've
- 1:12:43experienced a new level of it tonight.
- 1:12:45Father, we thank you that you have graced us with this portion
- 1:12:50and what we just want to with the remaining strength that we
- 1:12:52have magnify your name and to extol you and to give praise to
- 1:12:58the king and priest who is to come again Rule and Reign from
- 1:13:02Jerusalem and that Lord, we would be We would be those who
- 1:13:08are heirs with Christ be holding you and marveling at you.
- 1:13:11Thank you for redeeming us, and thank you for promising that
- 1:13:15future for us. Lord, we just, we give you
- 1:13:17praise, we are overwhelmed, overjoyed and now we Channel.
- 1:13:21This wonderful experience into Worship in Jesus name, we pray.
- 1:13:26Amen. Any man.
- 1:13:26Can we stand and Worship the Lord?
- 1:13:28What? A mighty God we serve.
- 1:13:30What a glorious. King we have.
