- 0:17are you still saying yes to shit that you really should be saying
- 0:25no to Are you are you scared of saying?
- 0:32No because you don't want to disappoint somebody.
- 0:36Or because you don't want to hurt somebody's feelings.
- 0:40When you do that, you do that at your expense.
- 0:45It costs you. When you say yes to someone when
- 0:52what you really want to do is to say no, you are doing yourself a
- 1:00disservice. It's expensive saying.
- 1:06Yes, when you want to say no, is expensive.
- 1:10It is energetically expensive. Another pep talk, pep, talk
- 1:21August, I guess. And this is about saying, no.
- 1:29Daring to say, no coming up with the courage to say no standing
- 1:35up for yourself. Speaking up for yourself.
- 1:42Enough enough with the, yes. Enough with people-pleasing
- 1:50enough with taking care of others, over you.
- 1:56Enough. It's enough.
- 1:58I'm tired of it. I'm tired of you saying?
- 2:02Yes. When you really mean no, when
- 2:05what you need. Is to take care of yourself.
- 2:12Saying no is an act of self-love.
- 2:17When you say no to another, you are saying yes to you.
- 2:23You're choosing yourself over another, and there is nothing
- 2:29selfish about that. In fact, it's required for you
- 2:34to care for others. You must care for yourself
- 2:38before you can care for others. We've heard it before the oxygen
- 2:44mask, you put it on yourself before you put it on somebody
- 2:49else. Because if you can't breathe,
- 2:53you're useless. You are of no help to anyone if
- 3:01you're not taking care of yourself.
- 3:07I know easier said than done for sure. 100%.
- 3:13Somebody asked me if I wanted a hug a couple days ago and I
- 3:17should have said, no, but I said yes.
- 3:21I still do it. It's hard saying knows heart.
- 3:28I know. And I'm not saying that you need
- 3:34to be perfect to this, but I am saying that you need to start
- 3:37somewhere. You need to start pushing back
- 3:41somehow any way you can. Anyway, you can just like
- 3:48anything, the more you do it, the better you get at it.
- 3:51The more times you say, no, the easier.
- 3:53It'll be then I, you know, I can't even tell you how come I
- 3:57didn't say no when I wanted to. Because it's hard, that's why.
- 4:07And I'm also not saying do this all the time, when you are
- 4:11feeling a little bit more confident, it's easier when
- 4:13we're confident, it's easy, we can do anything with confidence.
- 4:19But I would like to invite you to do it more to say no more say
- 4:25no more. Although if you're the type of
- 4:27person who says no all the time, don't listen to this.
- 4:30This is not for you. This message is not for you.
- 4:32Stop listening, or keep listening.
- 4:34Just don't do this. There are some people whose
- 4:36default is know. And maybe they need to say yes
- 4:41more. Right?
- 4:43Because maybe they've said, no so much their life is small but
- 4:50I don't want you to say yes. To everything I want you to say,
- 4:55yes. I want you to say yes, the
- 4:59things that make sense for you. That are in service of your
- 5:04growth that feel good. That light.
- 5:06You up that bring you life. Say yes to that.
- 5:12And sometimes you have to say yes to other shit that you don't
- 5:14want to say yes to. But you kind of have to say yes
- 5:17to like going to work. You can't just tell your boss to
- 5:21go. Fuck himself, or herself or
- 5:23themselves. Because you don't feel like
- 5:26going, I mean you can but there's a good chance you'll get
- 5:30fired. So there are repercussions to
- 5:33say no and if your kid needs attention, you probably just
- 5:37need to say yes and give them the attention right there.
- 5:39We have obligations in life so we can't just say fucking no to
- 5:43everything even though I want you to, but there's a lot of
- 5:50stuff that you're saying, yes to that, you really shouldn't be.
- 5:55Like hanging out with people that you don't want to hang out
- 5:57with going on a date with a person that you don't want to go
- 5:59on a date with having sex, when you don't feel like having sex.
- 6:05Helping someone, when you're not in a position to help them.
- 6:10There are situations where you could say no more.
- 6:17And you're not because you don't want to disappoint them, you
- 6:19don't want to hurt them, you want to be the person that is
- 6:23there for others, and that's cool.
- 6:25That's admirable. But you don't need to do that
- 6:28all the time. No one is expecting you to.
- 6:33You think they are? You may be raised in a family
- 6:40where saying no wasn't. Okay.
- 6:42Maybe you weren't modeled what somebody receiving your know
- 6:47with love looks like And it looks something like, thank you
- 6:52for letting me know. I totally understand that you
- 6:58need to take care of yourself and what I asked you to do isn't
- 7:00something you want to do. Awesome.
- 7:02Thanks. That's what it should sound
- 7:05like, by the way. But it usually doesn't sound
- 7:09like that. It's usually cajoling getting
- 7:13aggressive asking again, pressuring all that kind of
- 7:17shit. So I get that.
- 7:20You might not have positive experiences with people,
- 7:24receiving your no, and that sucks.
- 7:27That really sucks. I wish you did.
- 7:29And I also want to let you know that there are people that will
- 7:32receive your no with Grace and respect and care and love.
- 7:37There are, those are usually nice kind people.
- 7:40Those are, you know, for the most part, the kind of people
- 7:43you want to surround yourself with If you say no and some
- 7:47debates you, that's some really solid information about that
- 7:50person. And then you can make some
- 7:54really important decisions as to how mm how valuable that person
- 7:59is to you and to your growth into your well-being?
- 8:05So here are a few ways for you to say, no, just off the top of
- 8:09my head. No, no, thank you.
- 8:14I'm not available for that. That's not something that I'm
- 8:18interested in. No.
- 8:22But thank you so much for asking.
- 8:23I'm really flattered. Yeah, no.
- 8:33No, thank you. No, thank you.
- 8:36Is really, it's kind of a catch-all.
- 8:41Hey, you want to go on a date with me?
- 8:43No, thank you. I'm really flattered that.
- 8:45You asked though, I'm perfectly happy.
- 8:48Just exploring friendship with you.
- 8:54Hey, do you want to have dinner on Wednesday?
- 8:57No, I'm not really, I'm not available to have dinner on
- 9:01Wednesday. I'm trying not to use any
- 9:03hedging words, like really not available to have dinner on
- 9:08Wednesday, but if you're open on Friday, I am.
- 9:14Wednesday's no good but Friday works.
- 9:17That's if you want to see them. If you don't want to see them
- 9:23you just say no. And then if they ask again and
- 9:29you don't want to continue a relationship with this person
- 9:32like this is like an acquaintance maybe that you
- 9:34don't really feel drawn to connect to more.
- 9:37You can just say I am prioritizing spending time with
- 9:44the friends that I already have that I rarely get to see and so
- 9:48I don't have time for new connections right now.
- 9:52If that changes, I'll let you know.
- 9:55I know that is hard to say, for sure.
- 9:59Absolutely. No doubt about it very hard.
- 10:04But what's worse? Hard conversation.
- 10:09That actually is quite short. A lot of back and forth when you
- 10:13do this, when you say no with Clarity or always making
- 10:19excuses, why you can't do something with somebody.
- 10:24Or even worse doing something with someone that you don't want
- 10:27to do. That's the worse.
- 10:31It's like that's that's a form of violating your own
- 10:34boundaries. Because you don't want to
- 10:37disappoint somebody. Or, because you're avoiding
- 10:40discomfort unpleasant emotions that will come from saying, no.
- 10:49Here's a little side note. You don't know how someone is
- 10:55going to act. You might think that saying no
- 10:58is going to hurt them. But that's incredibly
- 11:03presumptuous of you. You might have really, really,
- 11:07really good information that this person is going to act this
- 11:11way. When I say no and you might be
- 11:13right. But you don't actually know that
- 11:18until you say no. And however, you find a way to
- 11:27do it. I would rather you do it
- 11:29clumsily. And I would rather you do it and
- 11:32fuck it up. Then not do it at all.
- 11:35I really would. And also, I want to recognize
- 11:39there are times when you really want to say no and you don't
- 11:41feel safe saying no, okay? Do what you need to do to feel
- 11:47safe. This advice does not apply to
- 11:51abusive relationships in which if you said, no, you would get
- 11:55hurt. If that's the case, then you
- 11:59need help. Saying no isn't going to solve
- 12:03it. but in most cases, If you mean and want to say no, try it
- 12:14and see what happens. Noah's default for me for the
- 12:21most part but I don't avoid saying yes, They say yes to
- 12:25things. That feel good.
- 12:26I check in with myself first, Sometimes somebody asked me for
- 12:30something. I said, I don't know yet, but
- 12:31I'll get back to you. I need to think about this feel
- 12:34through it, we need some time. Going to sleep on it, and then I
- 12:37get back to it and the day or two, And I don't use I'll think
- 12:43about it as an excuse to not say no right away if it's a no right
- 12:47away, I'll just say no. Often say that that's not
- 12:51something that I'm available for another.
- 12:54Good one is, I'm unable to take advantage of this opportunity.
- 12:59That's a good one for emails. If I get a request for an
- 13:06interview or podcast gas or someone wants me to read their
- 13:09book or something and it's not a good fit.
- 13:12I'll just say thank you so much for thinking of me and for
- 13:16reaching out and fortunately at this point I'm not in a position
- 13:19to take advantage of this opportunity.
- 13:21Thank you so much, take care. Because when I say no, I create
- 13:27space for myself, I create space for rest.
- 13:32Space for other opportunities that are a good fit that I do
- 13:35want to say yes to that. I am 100% fuck.
- 13:37Yeah, too. If I say yes to everything that
- 13:41I've got no time to say, yes, the shit that I actually want
- 13:43because I've already committed myself to stuff.
- 13:45I don't want I don't want to do that.
- 13:50You shouldn't do it either. I don't like telling people what
- 13:53they should and shouldn't do but I just did and that's how it is.
- 14:01The space. What happens when you have
- 14:05space? What comes in to fill that
- 14:07space? That's interesting.
- 14:10Say no to shit. The sorry saying yes, the shit
- 14:13that you don't want to do. That's not interesting.
- 14:15That sucks that robs you of time and energy.
- 14:20Which is a finite resource. I mean some like deeply
- 14:25connected Earth Souls will say that.
- 14:28You know, infinite energy is infinite and you can just kind
- 14:30of tap into mother Gaia and it'll just flow through your
- 14:34root chakra and that's cool. That's cool.
- 14:38But, you know, for the most part, it's finite, you know,
- 14:44like we all got to go to sleep. There are only so many hours in
- 14:46the day. There's so many things we can
- 14:48do. It's finite So, be intensely
- 14:52protective of it of your time. Of your energy of who you
- 14:58connect to and with of the projects, as you say yes to of
- 15:03how much work you do, the intensely protective of that.
- 15:11That's what I'm going to leave you with.
- 15:15Have beautiful week or don't. But do bye.
