- 0:02Speaker 1: I think normal, like the show with normalis takes to win,
- 0:06Speaker 1: the news gets weird. I have many Catherine, and.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Carol Mark Wins. Is this the weekend? Yet it
- 0:11Speaker 2: feels like should we be again?
- 0:14Speaker 1: I don't think it's even and.
- 0:17Speaker 2: This is like a really long week, and I don't.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I don't know why. I just maybe the news is
- 0:23Speaker 2: again NonStop and so much going on. You know, I
- 0:25Speaker 2: was thinking about this as we were discussing our topics today.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We're not even going to talk about that. Trump said
- 0:30Speaker 2: that Ukraine could win the war against Russia as a
- 0:34Speaker 2: side yesterday. I liked the entire maybe I'll get it
- 0:38Speaker 2: like next week, but not today, in.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The entire speech at the you in General Assembly, which
- 0:43Speaker 1: would have been a two week story like ten years ago.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But we'll get right at some point.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Right, we're not even We're not even getting into it
- 0:49Speaker 2: because there's so much.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Other news goodness.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I think that one of the biggest stories that doesn't
- 0:55Speaker 2: feel like a big story is that Google has admitted
- 0:58Speaker 2: that the Biden administration and pressured them to shut down
- 1:02Speaker 2: various YouTube accounts, including that of FBI Deputy Director Dan Bengino,
- 1:07Speaker 2: White House counter Terrorism chief Sebastian Gorka, it's really kind
- 1:13Speaker 2: of crazy, So Google, This is from Fox. Google detailed
- 1:17Speaker 2: it's remarkable shift in a document first obtained by Fox
- 1:20Speaker 2: News Digital that a lawyer for the company provided to
- 1:22Speaker 2: the House to just share a committee the new policy
- 1:25Speaker 2: from Google could affect both average users and well known figures.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The document included a section about the Biden administration and
- 1:32Speaker 2: said the White House officials at the time pushed Google
- 1:35Speaker 2: behind the scenes to remove perceived information related to COVID nineteen. Now,
- 1:40Speaker 2: why this is not a huge story is because we
- 1:43Speaker 2: all knew this. We knew it, We knew that this
- 1:46Speaker 2: was happening. This confirmation is very good because we could
- 1:50Speaker 2: point to it and be like, look, we were right
- 1:52Speaker 2: once again. But it doesn't feel new. We all knew it,
- 1:58Speaker 2: we were right.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The other reason it's not a big story is because
- 2:03Speaker 1: much of the media thinks that this was the right decision,
- 2:06Speaker 1: This was right good, this.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Was a good censorship.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and Jim Jim Clyburne, a representative a Democrat representative,
- 2:13Speaker 1: said as much on Abby Phillips's show on CNN. She
- 2:18Speaker 1: strangely did not interrupt him while he was skewing his
- 2:21Speaker 1: own misinformation about how it's good to shut people down
- 2:26Speaker 1: for misinformation, which, by the way, we now know was
- 2:28Speaker 1: not in misinformation much. Right, Right, we were right, We
- 2:32Speaker 1: were all right about so many things. Yeah, I think
- 2:36Speaker 1: this should be a giant deal. I have been consistent
- 2:41Speaker 1: in saying that the head of the SEC should not
- 2:44Speaker 1: be job owning. Is the term which is I was.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Gonna say, is this job owning? Because I only learned
- 2:50Speaker 2: the word job owning that everybody's using like in every
- 2:52Speaker 2: other sentence, like two days ago, is this job owning?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Term?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Job owning is for when the government publicly threatens or
- 2:59Speaker 1: pressures a private entity to make decisions that would limit
- 3:04Speaker 1: people's speech.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:05Speaker 1: We know that the Biden administration was engaged in this
- 3:08Speaker 1: four years. And not only were they engaged in it
- 3:12Speaker 1: against both misinformation, which is obviously allowed and true information
- 3:18Speaker 1: which was you know, detrimental to people's knowledge base on COVID,
- 3:23Speaker 1: but they did it on the Internet and social media,
- 3:26Speaker 1: where they have absolutely no plausible place or power for regulation. Now,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the SEC does have regulation powers over broadcast networks, right,
- 3:36Speaker 1: so that's.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Don't understand that distinction.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a slight difference here. I still don't think
- 3:41Speaker 1: Brendan Carr should be doing that. But there is a
- 3:43Speaker 1: slight difference in that there's no plausible place where they
- 3:48Speaker 1: have power to do this. But of course this is
- 3:52Speaker 1: one of those things where it's like the medium mostly
- 3:54Speaker 1: agrees with the Biden administration. They think it was wise
- 3:57Speaker 1: or that it just had you know, at least they
- 3:59Speaker 1: were doing it for the right reasons. I mean sometimes
- 4:01Speaker 1: people explicitly say that. Derek, I believe it was. Derek
- 4:04Speaker 1: Thompson wrote that just the other day. It was like,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know, at least they had good reasons for doing
- 4:08Speaker 1: It'm like, no, no, no.
- 4:09Speaker 2: No, no, lot the reasons for doing it.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Hello, not how we evaluate these things. But yeah, it
- 4:18Speaker 1: had really deleterious effects on people. People lost money from this,
- 4:23Speaker 1: By the way, Where can they go sue them and
- 4:26Speaker 1: get the money back that they would have made from
- 4:28Speaker 1: these channels, because they should because they're like, we're reinstating
- 4:31Speaker 1: your channels, Great, where's my money?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Mm hmm. The years have lost money and look, not
- 4:37Speaker 2: everybody got to have a career after that. A lot
- 4:40Speaker 2: of people that you've never heard of lost their channels
- 4:43Speaker 2: and that's it for them. They didn't go on to
- 4:45Speaker 2: administration jobs. They didn't go on to fame and fortune elsewhere.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Some of them just quietly disappeared and lost the money
- 4:51Speaker 2: that they were making from their channel. It's look, are
- 4:55Speaker 2: we still mad bro about the COVID years? Yes, But
- 5:00Speaker 2: what's particularly galling here is that, you know, there's so
- 5:05Speaker 2: little conversation about this on the left. They're not doing
- 5:08Speaker 2: any soul searching. And this always makes me crazy because
- 5:12Speaker 2: there's so many people on the right who are like,
- 5:14Speaker 2: I don't like what happened to Jimmy Kimmel. I'm not
- 5:16Speaker 2: one of them. By the way we talked about this,
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't see a problem here. But a
- 5:22Speaker 2: lot of people on the right did see a problem
- 5:24Speaker 2: and spoke out about it. You just don't see that
- 5:27Speaker 2: kind of thing on the left at all. And that's
- 5:30Speaker 2: why the COVID years do still matter to us so much,
- 5:33Speaker 2: because they won't admit what happened. They won't talk about
- 5:37Speaker 2: the shutdowns of speech, they won't talk about the misinformation
- 5:40Speaker 2: that was actually correct. All of that leaves me with
- 5:43Speaker 2: bitterness forever.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, and if you play this unequal game for
- 5:51Speaker 1: too long and the other side never admits error or
- 5:55Speaker 1: backs down, and you're consistent the whole time. This is
- 5:58Speaker 1: the part of the argument from folks like you that
- 6:00Speaker 1: I'm very friendly to. It's like, how does that work out?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Exactly right?
- 6:04Speaker 4: Right now?
- 6:04Speaker 2: The one side gets this, Yes, exactly.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Greg Lukianov, who runs fire which I like, occasionally slightly
- 6:11Speaker 1: disagree with on some things, but largely think they're they're
- 6:14Speaker 1: good and consistent, he writes, The maddening thing is that
- 6:18Speaker 1: if Google had chosen to stand up to the Biden
- 6:20Speaker 1: administration's job owning, they definitely would have gotten standing, and
- 6:24Speaker 1: I believe they would have won. Instead, we got the
- 6:26Speaker 1: terrible Mrthy v. Missouri decision, in which I do think
- 6:29Speaker 1: there was more than enough evidence to get standing, but
- 6:31Speaker 1: I digress. That was the important case on this kind
- 6:34Speaker 1: of thing, that the court decided that the folks who
- 6:38Speaker 1: were censored did not have standing. Again, I disagree with
- 6:40Speaker 1: him as well. Right, instead of a resounding rebuke to
- 6:44Speaker 1: the idea that the government can make private companies censor
- 6:46Speaker 1: speech that it is forbidden from censoring under the First Amendment,
- 6:50Speaker 1: we still need that decision, O, Titans of Silicon Valley.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So the next time your job owned, consider suing with
- 6:56Speaker 1: us with us. Okay, agree with Greg on this, And also,
- 7:00Speaker 1: isn't the problem for conservatives over and over again that
- 7:06Speaker 1: the government and the corporations are happy to work together
- 7:10Speaker 1: when it's for the right reason.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 1: The only reason they're coming out now is because they
- 7:15Speaker 1: were invested by investigating by Republicans in Oversight Committee. And
- 7:19Speaker 1: now they're like, ooh, we're on the wrong side of
- 7:21Speaker 1: things now, right, They just they just basically agreed the
- 7:25Speaker 1: censorship was okay. Yeah, So how do we get rid
- 7:29Speaker 1: of that part? Yeah?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, all of that is really tough to swallow.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And I don't know how we move forward from this,
- 7:36Speaker 2: because yes, they're all falling into line now now that
- 7:40Speaker 2: there's a Trump administration, now that there's investigations. It shouldn't
- 7:43Speaker 2: have to be that way, And I just I don't
- 7:46Speaker 2: know where we go from here.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I really don't. And when it's after the fact, the
- 7:50Speaker 1: entire media can go snooze, y'all. Yeah, it's an old story,
- 7:55Speaker 1: old news story.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. Brian Stelter is not working about this for
- 8:00Speaker 2: some reason.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, that's not in his not in his
- 8:04Speaker 1: newsletter this week.
- 8:05Speaker 2: No, probably not want to. I want to give a
- 8:08Speaker 2: shout out speaking of COVID to a new documentary that's
- 8:11Speaker 2: out called Fifteen Days The Real Story of America's Pandemic
- 8:15Speaker 2: School Closures if you want to get all riled up.
- 8:18Speaker 2: But also I think it's important to have that kind
- 8:20Speaker 2: of stuff, go into the history of what happened. And
- 8:25Speaker 2: I just think that they lied to us, they kept
- 8:28Speaker 2: things from us, they shut down speech they didn't agree with,
- 8:31Speaker 2: and we have to move forward, but we have to
- 8:34Speaker 2: remember what happened.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, And of course while this is all happening, everybody's
- 8:42Speaker 1: very angry about the current free speech story, which isn't
- 8:46Speaker 1: that a person was killed in the act of debating
- 8:49Speaker 1: on a college campus, but is that Jimmy Kimmel was
- 8:52Speaker 1: off of work for several days.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, for Jimmy.
- 8:56Speaker 1: As I have said, I think the government did the
- 8:58Speaker 1: wrong thing here by open and it's big old trap. However,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I want to go through Kimmel's monologue, but before we
- 9:06Speaker 1: get to that, I want to play a little clip
- 9:07Speaker 1: first from Ryan Long, who's a comedian who's very clever
- 9:11Speaker 1: and based is probably the word for him, and good
- 9:16Speaker 1: at sort of making front of woke things and conventional
- 9:19Speaker 1: lefty wisdom. And I just want to play this real
- 9:22Speaker 1: quick clip because it embodies how I feel, as a
- 9:26Speaker 1: consistent free speech person about these moments.
- 9:29Speaker 5: I had a friend she came up to me and
- 9:30Speaker 5: she was like, isn't it crazy? The free speech is gone.
- 9:33Speaker 5: I'm like, you supported every guy get kicked off of
- 9:35Speaker 5: everything for ten years. It feels like a friend that
- 9:38Speaker 5: was like an alcoholic for eight years and just a menace,
- 9:41Speaker 5: then coming back to the party after one day sober
- 9:43Speaker 5: and being like, you guys need to get your life together,
- 9:47Speaker 5: and you're like what.
- 9:49Speaker 1: You're like, I'm like, you came.
- 9:52Speaker 5: To my wedding and shit on the game, and the
- 9:56Speaker 5: only reason you're not an alcoholic anymore is because.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Of the ankle bracelet.
- 10:01Speaker 5: What are we talking about right now?
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good.
- 10:06Speaker 1: No, that's That's how I feel about many of these folks,
- 10:11Speaker 1: including Kimmel, who, by the way, was happy to join
- 10:14Speaker 1: in with cancelations of others with advocacy for censorship of
- 10:20Speaker 1: others as long as they were for the right reasons,
- 10:23Speaker 1: which are the less reasons obviously. Okay, So I listened
- 10:26Speaker 1: to his entire monologue You're welcome everyone seventeen minutes. It
- 10:32Speaker 1: opens with the same line that Trump opened with when
- 10:36Speaker 1: he returned triumphantly after almost being assassinated in Butler, He says,
- 10:41Speaker 1: as I was with his like as I was saying
- 10:43Speaker 1: before I was.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:45Speaker 1: First of all, that was a great line from Trump
- 10:47Speaker 1: into Cribbit is yeah, lady. Also, it makes light of
- 10:54Speaker 1: an assassination attempt by equating it with returning to give
- 10:59Speaker 1: a comedy monologue. Okay, So there's that. That's how he opens.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Four minutes in he thanks some people who are consistent
- 11:08Speaker 1: free speech folks, Clay Travis, ted Cruz among them, people
- 11:13Speaker 1: who he says, it took courage for them to say
- 11:16Speaker 1: that the administration had done the wrong thing on this
- 11:19Speaker 1: courage that, notably Kimmel does not.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Have, does not have right completely, does not possess that courage.
- 11:25Speaker 1: No, he's He's happy to jump on any bandwagon during
- 11:29Speaker 1: the Biden administration on any of these issues. By the way,
- 11:33Speaker 1: can we just reflect on the fact that Jimmy Kimmel,
- 11:35Speaker 1: of all people of man show and repeated black face
- 11:38Speaker 1: now passed was never canceled before, Like right, yeah, amazing
- 11:44Speaker 1: he made it through that, Okay, Sam Pinolegiell. So six
- 11:50Speaker 1: minutes in we get this, which is his attempt at
- 11:54Speaker 1: an apology about the whole thing. I think we have
- 11:57Speaker 1: a little clip of it.
- 11:58Speaker 6: I don't think what I have to say is going
- 12:00Speaker 6: to make much of a difference. If you like me,
- 12:01Speaker 6: you like me. If you don't, you don't. I have
- 12:03Speaker 6: no illusions about changing anyone's mind. But I do want
- 12:06Speaker 6: to make something clear because it's important to me as
- 12:08Speaker 6: a human and that is you understand that it was
- 12:11Speaker 6: never my intention to make light of the murder of
- 12:15Speaker 6: a young man.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I don't.
- 12:21Speaker 6: I don't think there's anything funny about it. I posted
- 12:24Speaker 6: a message on Instagram of the daves killed, sending love
- 12:27Speaker 6: to his family and asking for compassion, and I meant it.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I still do.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group
- 12:34Speaker 6: for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply
- 12:38Speaker 6: disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point
- 12:41Speaker 6: I was trying to make. But I understand that to
- 12:43Speaker 6: some that felt either ill timed or unclear, or maybe both.
- 12:47Speaker 6: And for those who think I did point a finger,
- 12:50Speaker 6: I get why you're upset. If the situation was reversed,
- 12:53Speaker 6: there's a good chance I'd have felt the same way.
- 12:55Speaker 6: I have many friends and family members on the other side,
- 12:59Speaker 6: who I love remain close to, even though we don't agree.
- 13:02Speaker 2: On politics at all.
- 13:04Speaker 6: I don't think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone.
- 13:08Speaker 6: This was a sick person who believed violence was a
- 13:11Speaker 6: solution and it isn't it ever?
- 13:16Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I mean his friends and family on the
- 13:19Speaker 2: right have heard him blame Republican voters for school shootings.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I just I'm sure he has people on the right
- 13:27Speaker 2: in his life, but he has said horrendous things about
- 13:31Speaker 2: our side.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Also, I don't appreciate an apology that is like, I'm
- 13:36Speaker 1: sorry you felt if.
- 13:37Speaker 2: You if you feel if you're mad, then.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry you misheard me. The sentence was very clear.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I think people are gaslighting by telling you it meant
- 13:46Speaker 1: something other than what it meant. The truth is that
- 13:49Speaker 1: he was trying to critique the right for hoping it
- 13:53Speaker 1: was anyone but them, when what he was doing in
- 13:56Speaker 1: that sentence was trying to create a fiction in which
- 13:59Speaker 1: it was but his people. He continues that fiction in
- 14:03Speaker 1: this monologue by saying he didn't represent anything. That's not true.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That's not true. What Kimmel is doing is owning for
- 14:15Speaker 1: himself and I agree with him that his benching was
- 14:19Speaker 1: a speech issue, but he will not allow that Charlie
- 14:24Speaker 1: Kirk's murder is a free speech issue. He will not
- 14:28Speaker 1: allow it. He says that stands for nothing. That was
- 14:30Speaker 1: just violence.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:33Speaker 1: He does not take a moment to be like, hey,
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's really important that he be able to do what
- 14:38Speaker 1: he was doing. I think it's important I do what
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm doing, But like this man doesn't get to go
- 14:43Speaker 1: home to his family now. He later goes on to
- 14:46Speaker 1: note that satire is a very important part of an
- 14:51Speaker 1: especially important part of American speech and political speech and
- 14:55Speaker 1: protected speech right. He never mentions that debate is a
- 15:02Speaker 1: very important protected part of American free speech culture. Then
- 15:09Speaker 1: he mentions a bunch of things we can all come
- 15:12Speaker 1: together about as a country, including that he shouldn't be benched.
- 15:19Speaker 1: What those unmentioned is we could come together to agree
- 15:25Speaker 1: that Charlie Kirk should not be murdered for saying thoughts
- 15:29Speaker 1: on campus. So, in this way, he has made himself
- 15:33Speaker 1: the only free speech martyr.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, the only.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Free speech martyer of the week. And I just think
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's trashy, it's vile, and this is why he will
- 15:43Speaker 1: never be a teammate on this right.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, he can't be trusted to defend free speech.
- 15:51Speaker 2: He could only be trusted to defend himself.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Also, one more thing, he has cried on television many
- 15:58Speaker 1: more times than I have in my entire career, and
- 16:02Speaker 1: I have had much more, better, many more better reasons
- 16:06Speaker 1: to cry than this man has. So I would just ask,
- 16:09Speaker 1: in the age of the crying selfie, cut.
- 16:11Speaker 2: It out, get it together. I want to just add
- 16:16Speaker 2: one more thing. Dave Portnoy has been I think, very
- 16:19Speaker 2: very good on this, and he tweets here's my last
- 16:22Speaker 2: point on Kimmel. If Kimmel came on and apologize like
- 16:25Speaker 2: this the day after his remarks, he probably wouldn't have
- 16:27Speaker 2: been suspended. But by all accounts, he wanted to double
- 16:30Speaker 2: down again for the billions time. This isn't a free
- 16:32Speaker 2: speech issue. He works for Mickey Mouse on Network TV.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Nobody said he was going to jail. He was dealing
- 16:38Speaker 2: with the consequences of making off color jokes about the
- 16:41Speaker 2: murder of a guy who meant a ton to a
- 16:42Speaker 2: ton of people and blamed it on the very people
- 16:44Speaker 2: who love him the most before the body was even cold.
- 16:47Speaker 2: So yeah, there was outrage that Mickey had to deal with.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Then the pendulum swung the other way and they put
- 16:52Speaker 2: him back on the air. Either way, it was never
- 16:54Speaker 2: a free speech issue. When you work for somebody else
- 16:57Speaker 2: and you offend a ton of people, you deal with
- 16:59Speaker 2: the consequences. Him framing this as free speech as a joke.
- 17:03Speaker 1: By the way, look.
- 17:04Speaker 2: At him going Dave Portney.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And by the way, is no one concerned at all
- 17:09Speaker 1: that ABC made its decision after an ABC affiliate had
- 17:13Speaker 1: been shot at by a person who explicitly wanted Kimmel
- 17:17Speaker 1: back on the air. Because that seems like it should
- 17:20Speaker 1: be a big story, and we should.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Interrogate the job owning.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I don't know, well, we should interrogate the notion just
- 17:27Speaker 1: as cars talking might have put pressure that the shooting
- 17:35Speaker 1: might have put pressure on ABC. And then one last thing,
- 17:39Speaker 1: of course, this terrible California house member or state legislature remember,
- 17:46Speaker 1: always is like popping off about stuff. And he's like,
- 17:49Speaker 1: we got to take away Sinclair's ability to broadcast, which
- 17:52Speaker 1: is the affiliates want to not they want to opt
- 17:56Speaker 1: out of Kimmel. Elizabeth Warren the other Democratic lawmakers have
- 18:01Speaker 1: launched an investigation into next Star and Sinclair, two major
- 18:06Speaker 1: TV station owners that are refusing to air Jimmy Kimmel's
- 18:09Speaker 1: talk show because now you see, it's job owning for
- 18:13Speaker 1: the right reasons.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It's okay when they do it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's okay when they do it. And she wants to
- 18:19Speaker 1: shut up Sinclair and Next Star and not let them
- 18:23Speaker 1: have freedom of association or freedom show. The free speech.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Warriors and the left who woke up this last week
- 18:28Speaker 2: are going to be putting it all over their Instagram stories.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And yeah, they're very principled about that. I can see
- 18:34Speaker 1: it coming. It's gonna be the next Kimmel monologue, which
- 18:37Speaker 1: I will not be watching me neither.
- 18:40Speaker 2: We'll be right back with Moron normally, where we will
- 18:42Speaker 2: talk governments shut down, and how fun polls have gotten lately.
- 18:46Speaker 1: But first, it was nearly two years ago that terrorists
- 18:49Speaker 1: murdered more than twelve hundred innocent Israelis and took two
- 18:52Speaker 1: hundred and fifty hostages. Today it seems as if the
- 18:55Speaker 1: cries of the dead and dying have been drowned out
- 18:57Speaker 1: by shouts of anti Semitic hatred. The most brutal attack
- 19:01Speaker 1: on Jewish people since the Holocaust is in danger of
- 19:03Speaker 1: being forgotten in a lot of sectors. Yet as the
- 19:06Speaker 1: world looks away, a light shines in the darkness. It's
- 19:08Speaker 1: a movement of love and support for the people of
- 19:10Speaker 1: Israel that I know you guys are going to want
- 19:11Speaker 1: to get involved with, called Flags of Fellowship and it's
- 19:15Speaker 1: organized by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. On
- 19:18Speaker 1: October fifth, just a few weeks away, millions of Americans
- 19:21Speaker 1: will prayerfully plant an Israeli flag in honor and solidarity
- 19:25Speaker 1: with the victims of October seventh, twenty twenty three. And
- 19:27Speaker 1: they're grieving families. And now you can be a part
- 19:29Speaker 1: of it too. To get more information about how you
- 19:32Speaker 1: can join the Flags of Fellowship movement, visit the Fellowship
- 19:35Speaker 1: online at IFCJ dot org. That's IFCJ dot org. Check
- 19:39Speaker 1: it out. We're back with normally right after this. Oh righty,
- 19:46Speaker 1: we are back on normally. Let's talk about the government
- 19:49Speaker 1: shutdown because we have to do this periodically, because the government.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Can we just partting to shut down periodically?
- 19:54Speaker 2: Can't we just play what we said six months ago?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Or no? Nah, it's like a slightly friend every time.
- 20:01Speaker 2: A little bit different each time. Right, It's like, here's
- 20:03Speaker 2: the thing.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I wish they would do their jobs before the deadline.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But as a person who's never done a job before
- 20:08Speaker 1: a deadline, I must have sympathy for this.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I actually I also think we said this
- 20:14Speaker 2: last time.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so I have some sympathy. Yeah, here's what's happening,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and I just want to give you guys a little
- 20:21Speaker 1: preview of the fight that's going to go down. So
- 20:23Speaker 1: I believe September thirtieth is the date by which there
- 20:26Speaker 1: needs to be a continuing resolution to continue the funding
- 20:32Speaker 1: of the government. It would be short term. The House
- 20:36Speaker 1: has passed one. The House has passed what is called,
- 20:40Speaker 1: with Republicans in charge, a clean CR. That means there's
- 20:45Speaker 1: nothing else in it. They're just like, let's just do this.
- 20:47Speaker 1: We can all get on the same page that the
- 20:49Speaker 1: government needs to continue to be funded for this short
- 20:51Speaker 1: period of time. We will argue again later. Here's the
- 20:54Speaker 1: clean CR. Pass it in the Senate. We shall be done. Okay,
- 20:58Speaker 1: that's where we are right now.
- 21:01Speaker 2: That's very diligent of them.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It actually sounds like the thing democrats and everyone in
- 21:09Speaker 1: the press asks for time what so Yeah, so houses like, okay,
- 21:13Speaker 1: we'll do that. Democrats in the Senate have decided that
- 21:18Speaker 1: they want to add to the clean CR, thereby making
- 21:21Speaker 1: it dirty, dirty, dirty CR, a dirty CR. They have
- 21:26Speaker 1: decided they want to add an extension of COVID era
- 21:30Speaker 1: Obamacare subsidies that were giant extra subsidies that were part
- 21:37Speaker 1: of one of one of many slush funds created during
- 21:41Speaker 1: COVID under alleged emergency conditions that we didn't really need
- 21:47Speaker 1: and that are basically fraudulent and in fact raise everyone's premiums,
- 21:51Speaker 1: because why when people don't have to pay for premiums
- 21:55Speaker 1: and you're subsidizing them, your costs go up. So they
- 22:00Speaker 1: approved these during COVID they put an expiration date on them.
- 22:04Speaker 1: That expiration date is this year, so.
- 22:08Speaker 2: They'll put a date so far into the future. They
- 22:11Speaker 2: were just like, we'll figure out how to deal with
- 22:13Speaker 2: this by then.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Well, and now their argument is fix our problem we
- 22:18Speaker 1: made for ourselves. And Republicans are like, no, you have
- 22:22Speaker 1: a clean CR. We know you want to continue these subsidies,
- 22:26Speaker 1: which are billions of dollars in handouts to insurance companies,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but we never voted for them. We don't want them.
- 22:34Speaker 1: This is not our job. Take it up with someone else.
- 22:37Speaker 1: And they're like, you're making a healthcare crisis. So that's
- 22:40Speaker 1: where we stand at the moment.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Can Republicans fight back on this or will they ultimately
- 22:47Speaker 2: fold just to get the cr through.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I think they can fight this effectively. And that's why
- 22:52Speaker 1: I'm sort of staging it for you guys, because I
- 22:54Speaker 1: think it's important to understand what they're doing here, because
- 22:58Speaker 1: they're saying healthcare cuts, right, Well, there's not a cut.
- 23:02Speaker 1: This is a program that was superfluous to begin with, right,
- 23:07Speaker 1: went mostly to insurance companies. Because, by the way, can
- 23:11Speaker 1: I just point out speaking of things we were right
- 23:13Speaker 1: about that, we've been right about Obamacare the whole time, Yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 1: which is that premiums would go up, the risk pools
- 23:20Speaker 1: would get worse, things would cost more, care would get worse,
- 23:24Speaker 1: coverage would get worse. Have to keep throwing money at it.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And that's what they're doing. And they're afraid that on
- 23:31Speaker 1: October first, when the insurance companies are required by law
- 23:36Speaker 1: by Obamacare, their original failure to send out their notices
- 23:39Speaker 1: that say your premiums are going up, right, that that's
- 23:42Speaker 1: going to be a problem for them. Yeah, I think
- 23:46Speaker 1: you're trying to prevent it by making us do it.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's getting so far away from the Obama years
- 23:51Speaker 2: that are people even going to connect it to Obamacare?
- 23:54Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I'm not sure either, And these things can get so muddied.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And look, Ocrats are really good at just saying crisis, crisis, crisis,
- 24:03Speaker 1: They want to end everything. But I would encourage everyone
- 24:06Speaker 1: to remember that basically any Biden era program approved as
- 24:11Speaker 1: part of IRA or Save whatever Saves America Act or
- 24:16Speaker 1: whatever they were all called are mostly slush funds and
- 24:19Speaker 1: nonsense to put us on a higher spending level that
- 24:23Speaker 1: then Democrats could claim we can never come down from
- 24:27Speaker 1: and therefore get all that money for the future.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Right, all of them are named, Yeah, all of them
- 24:33Speaker 2: are named like not a slush fund, we promise bill.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So they made their own problem. They want Republicans to
- 24:42Speaker 1: solve it, and Republicans are like, pass, no, you guys
- 24:45Speaker 1: are going to have to deal with this. So in
- 24:47Speaker 1: the Senate, that's the the game board as it is.
- 24:51Speaker 1: They want to have a meeting with Schumer wants a
- 24:54Speaker 1: meeting with Trump, and Trump's like, why we gave you
- 24:56Speaker 1: a clean cr and they're like, a ha, see he
- 24:59Speaker 1: won't go with us. What dude, you got the thing?
- 25:04Speaker 2: So yeah, I hope he sticks to that. I hope
- 25:06Speaker 2: he doesn't negotiate, because it sounds like Republicans are for
- 25:09Speaker 2: the first time in forever in a winning situation where
- 25:14Speaker 2: they have done the right thing. I like that.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I mean, we'll probably fight each other over the cr anyway.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I guess it's different, but that is where we stand
- 25:24Speaker 1: at the moment.
- 25:25Speaker 2: All right, we'll be right back with more on Normally,
- 25:28Speaker 2: where we preview twenty twenty eight, talk about the latest
- 25:31Speaker 2: polls and Kamala Gavin, what's going on with them? Let's
- 25:35Speaker 2: talk about it. All right. We are back on Normally
- 25:41Speaker 2: with a fun little segment where we get to enjoy
- 25:44Speaker 2: the Democrats disarray and look, we know it's not going
- 25:47Speaker 2: to last. We know it won't always be this way,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but polls have been so much fun lately. Every poll
- 25:54Speaker 2: that comes out, it's like, who even are the Democrats?
- 25:57Speaker 2: Do they even exist? The latest Reuters has which party
- 26:02Speaker 2: has a better plan on crime? Republicans are up by twenty. Immigration,
- 26:06Speaker 2: Republicans are up by eighteen, Foreign conflicts Republicans are up
- 26:10Speaker 2: by twelve. Economy Republicans are up by ten. Corruption Republicans
- 26:14Speaker 2: are up by six. Gun control, Gun control Republicans are
- 26:17Speaker 2: up by four. Political extremism Republicans are up by four.
- 26:22Speaker 2: The only things Democrats are up on for a better
- 26:25Speaker 2: plan are environment, women's rights, healthcare, and respect for democracy.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And that's fine with me.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean this is this is probably an indication,
- 26:36Speaker 1: by the way of why they're going after healthcare messaging
- 26:39Speaker 1: on the CR is that they're trying to submit that
- 26:42Speaker 1: for next year as they're winning issue, that they're going
- 26:46Speaker 1: to harp on this even though most of it is
- 26:48Speaker 1: made up, but it is, you know, one of the
- 26:51Speaker 1: few places that they outperform Republicans. Those numbers are tragic
- 26:59Speaker 1: if you crap right.
- 27:01Speaker 2: And even like women's rights, how are they even up
- 27:03Speaker 2: thirteen points on women's rights? When was the last time
- 27:07Speaker 2: they cared about women's rights at all? I know it's
- 27:09Speaker 2: just code for abortion, I get it, but wow, do
- 27:12Speaker 2: they not care about women's rights? And if Republicans were
- 27:16Speaker 2: better at messaging about it, and you know, maybe Erica
- 27:19Speaker 2: Kirk gives Republicans the kick that they need to become
- 27:22Speaker 2: better messengers on women's rights, I think things could even
- 27:26Speaker 2: turn around on that.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, on that subject, by the way, Spanberger, who I
- 27:30Speaker 1: keep referencing, But she's important because she's running in Virginia
- 27:32Speaker 1: for governor and she is the great normy hope for Democrats.
- 27:35Speaker 1: She was once again asked about boys in women's locker
- 27:39Speaker 1: rooms or boys in women's sports and couldn't give a
- 27:42Speaker 1: straight answer because even though it's the most normal position
- 27:46Speaker 1: you can have, she can't do it.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, she runs away because she doesn't want to
- 27:53Speaker 2: be on the record answering, which she really thinks, and
- 27:56Speaker 2: that's sad empathetic.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I think part of the problem might be
- 28:01Speaker 1: that these folks just sound like freaked out weirdos all
- 28:05Speaker 1: the time, and like, look, I concede that Donald Trump
- 28:10Speaker 1: is a weirdo, but he's an entertaining weirdo, and that
- 28:15Speaker 1: has made all the difference.
- 28:17Speaker 2: He is hilarious, and every time I hear him, he
- 28:20Speaker 2: is just He's got a very good natural sense of humor.
- 28:23Speaker 2: And I don't think Democrats can emulate that as well
- 28:26Speaker 2: as they think they can.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Andvin Newsom certainly cannot.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Gavin Newsome, he's funny without meaning to be, Like you know,
- 28:35Speaker 2: apparently Kamala asked him for an endorsement the day that
- 28:39Speaker 2: Biden stepped down and he wrote to her, I think
- 28:43Speaker 2: we talked about this last episode, but Hiking will respond later,
- 28:46Speaker 2: and then never responded. I mean, that's hilarious, but I
- 28:48Speaker 2: don't think he was trying.
- 28:50Speaker 1: To be I've definitely done that to people before, but
- 28:52Speaker 1: it wasn't over something that important. Shall we listen to
- 28:55Speaker 1: Gavin Newsom's pitch about why twenty twenty eight is important.
- 28:59Speaker 2: The most important election I'm sure of our lifetime.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Yeah, let's hear about it.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I fear that we will not have an election in
- 29:06Speaker 5: twenty twenty eight.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I really mean that.
- 29:09Speaker 2: And the core of my soul unless we wake up
- 29:12Speaker 2: to the code red what's happening in this country, and
- 29:15Speaker 2: we wake up soberly to how serious this moment is.
- 29:21Speaker 2: The core of his soul? What soul? What's sould?
- 29:25Speaker 1: Also, then why are you in South Carolina?
- 29:28Speaker 3: Dude?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Right? Well, what are you doing? You don't believe that
- 29:32Speaker 1: there won't be a twenty twenty eight election?
- 29:34Speaker 2: Right, You're just.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Full of it. And I don't understand why this apocalyptic
- 29:40Speaker 1: pitch is the only one they can do. It's crazy
- 29:44Speaker 1: one they can do.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, if they're not going to lower
- 29:49Speaker 2: the temperature at ever, now would be a really good
- 29:52Speaker 2: time for that, and they're completely disinterested in doing that.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Noah Rothman tweets about that clip. That's why he staffed
- 30:00Speaker 2: out with Clinton and Harris Aids, who have little experience
- 30:02Speaker 2: in Sacramento and doing speaking tours in South Carolina, which
- 30:06Speaker 2: has almost no competitive races in twenty twenty six, because
- 30:09Speaker 2: he's sure there won't be an election. Maybe it's insurance
- 30:12Speaker 2: just in case. Yeah, he knows what will be an election.
- 30:15Speaker 2: And look Trump, you know, for better or worse, it
- 30:19Speaker 2: could have at different points in his last presidency canceled
- 30:24Speaker 2: elections or on January sixth, after January six refused to
- 30:28Speaker 2: leave the White House. He didn't do any of that.
- 30:30Speaker 2: So I'm pretty confident we're going to have a twenty
- 30:33Speaker 2: twenty eight election. Another tweet that I liked about this,
- 30:36Speaker 2: per Deep Shankar tweets, these are the kinds of unsupported,
- 30:41Speaker 2: politically charged statements that make mentally unstable wackle progressive terrorists
- 30:46Speaker 2: consider violence exactly.
- 30:49Speaker 1: It does seem like an issue. Also, are you not
- 30:54Speaker 1: doing voter suppression by telling them that there will be
- 30:57Speaker 1: no voting?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Right?
- 30:58Speaker 1: I mean, it seems like you're on voters. Yeah, I guess,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but I don't understand this approach because there are people
- 31:05Speaker 1: on the margins who will go Why would I register
- 31:07Speaker 1: to vote? He said, there's going to be no twenty
- 31:09Speaker 1: twenty eight election. Yeah, are you doing this to yourself?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Had a moment where I was worried they were doing
- 31:14Speaker 2: this to themselves in you know, in the during the
- 31:18Speaker 2: Biden administration, and when i'd be on the road for
- 31:20Speaker 2: speeches and stuff, I'd have people come up to me
- 31:22Speaker 2: and say, I don't think there's a point in voting.
- 31:24Speaker 2: They're they're going to steal it anyway. And I'd be like, yo,
- 31:28Speaker 2: go vote. Don't don't think this because you know.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Well Trump Trump famously in the runoff with the with
- 31:36Speaker 1: the two Senate seats in Georgia.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, since I was a messenger.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And turned Georgia Senate seats blue right, so you can
- 31:44Speaker 1: tell people that their votes don't matter and they might
- 31:48Speaker 1: believe you. So you shouldn't do that.
- 31:50Speaker 2: He's tone that down, he really has. He's become like, definitely,
- 31:54Speaker 2: go vote guy.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So yes, so we've corrected that particular messaging problem. I
- 32:00Speaker 1: don't know why they're doing it to themselves. Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So on our last last person we're going to talk
- 32:06Speaker 2: about in this segment, Kamala Harris. Her book is more
- 32:09Speaker 2: interesting than I thought it'd be, not a lot more interesting,
- 32:12Speaker 2: but a touch more interesting. She is taking it to Biden.
- 32:16Speaker 2: How dare he not step down? In advance? She tears
- 32:20Speaker 2: into her husband for not doing enough for her birthday.
- 32:24Speaker 2: She's she's got some grievances and you know it's festivus.
- 32:28Speaker 1: So I mean, like that part's entertaining. I guess she
- 32:32Speaker 1: has a She has an interesting quality of being simultaneously
- 32:37Speaker 1: extremely cringe and uncompelling at the same time because you're
- 32:42Speaker 1: just listening to slop of words and you don't but like,
- 32:47Speaker 1: some of this is like medium interesting. The problem for
- 32:50Speaker 1: the party is that it has no answers, right, There's
- 32:54Speaker 1: there's no answer as to why she was the person
- 33:00Speaker 1: and didn't get it done. Why none of it's her fault,
- 33:03Speaker 1: As I think Dave Weigel put it, it's all mistakes
- 33:08Speaker 1: made by other people years ago that hurt her. And
- 33:11Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, but you you were supposed to be
- 33:13Speaker 1: the one who wanted to be president, right, you didn't
- 33:16Speaker 1: say anything about those mistakes.
- 33:18Speaker 2: At all at the time about how like Biden was like,
- 33:21Speaker 2: Now you're like, oh, when I hugged him, he seemed
- 33:23Speaker 2: really feeble, Like you could have mentioned something at the time.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you have seven days because of that. Yes, we
- 33:30Speaker 1: have one comal oclip of her talking about her uh,
- 33:33Speaker 1: her journey on whether she should pick Pete Budajenje for VP.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Here it is.
- 33:39Speaker 3: You know, you're the first woman elected vice president, You're
- 33:42Speaker 3: a black woman and a South Asian woman elected that
- 33:45Speaker 3: high office, very nearly elected president. To say that he
- 33:48Speaker 3: couldn't be on the ticket effectively because he was gay,
- 33:50Speaker 3: it's hard to hear.
- 33:51Speaker 4: No, No, that's not what I said that that's that
- 33:54Speaker 4: he couldn't be on the ticket because he is gay.
- 33:57Speaker 4: My point, as I write in the book, is that
- 34:02Speaker 4: I was clear that, you know, one hundred and seven
- 34:05Speaker 4: days in one of the most hotly contested elections for
- 34:11Speaker 4: president and United States against someone like Donald Trump, who
- 34:15Speaker 4: knows no floor, to be a black woman running for
- 34:20Speaker 4: president United States and as a vice presidential running mate
- 34:26Speaker 4: a gay man, with the stakes being so high, it
- 34:31Speaker 4: made me very sad, but I also realized it would
- 34:35Speaker 4: be a real risk.
- 34:38Speaker 2: It wasn't that hotly contested. Trump won every single swing state.
- 34:43Speaker 2: That's important because how much more could she lose? Like
- 34:47Speaker 2: with a gay man on the ticket, where's her bottom
- 34:50Speaker 2: on this?
- 34:51Speaker 1: Well, also she says, no, no, no, I didn't say
- 34:54Speaker 1: I didn't hire him because he was gay. I said
- 34:57Speaker 1: I didn't hire him because the stakes were too high
- 35:00Speaker 1: for him to be gay.
- 35:01Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 35:02Speaker 1: It's like, okay, well that's the same thing. You know,
- 35:07Speaker 1: it takes a real special person to just straight up
- 35:10Speaker 1: torpedo the whole DEI thing they have going on. That
- 35:14Speaker 1: she so the liability to do the de I thing
- 35:17Speaker 1: to begin with at this point in time, and then
- 35:21Speaker 1: to continue to embrace it but also admit that you
- 35:25Speaker 1: didn't hire somebody because he was gay. You're you're the
- 35:28Speaker 1: worst of all the worlds. Yes, you're the worst of
- 35:31Speaker 1: all the world.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Right. And it was obvious also at the time that
- 35:34Speaker 2: she didn't pick jos Shapiro because her party was having
- 35:37Speaker 2: a jew problem. And so it's funny, you know, there's
- 35:42Speaker 2: lots of jokes also, like she didn't want to pick
- 35:44Speaker 2: the gay man, so she picked Tim Wong.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Yeah, she's I think the biggest disadvantage of this book
- 35:53Speaker 1: tour for Republicans is that it might truly convince the
- 35:57Speaker 1: Democrats that she has no past future right to the
- 36:00Speaker 1: nomination in the future, which would have, of course behoove us.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Because she is so very bad at this.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Come on, say the terrible with you.
- 36:12Speaker 1: She's so terrible, horrible, horrible, she really is, and she's
- 36:17Speaker 1: bad in the most friendly places. I watched her on
- 36:21Speaker 1: Madout and I watched her on the View, and she's
- 36:23Speaker 1: terrible in both places. She has not thought through what
- 36:26Speaker 1: these answers should be. She has no anticipation of what
- 36:30Speaker 1: the tough questions I put that in clods because they're
- 36:32Speaker 1: not tough questions are going to be. And she just
- 36:36Speaker 1: flups it once again, once again.
- 36:39Speaker 2: She doesn't work that she does not put in the work.
- 36:41Speaker 2: She thinks she is smarter than everybody and doesn't have
- 36:44Speaker 2: to do the work. And as I tell my kids
- 36:45Speaker 2: all the time, that doesn't work.
- 36:48Speaker 3: So won't work.
- 36:49Speaker 2: It won't work. Yeah, No, it doesn't matter how smart
- 36:52Speaker 2: you are. You gotta do the work, alrighty. Thanks for
