- 0:07Welcome back to another edition of the Just in Time podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host and as always, we got Will.
- 0:13How you doing brother? My God, what's up?
- 0:15How you doing? Well, would be doing a lot
- 0:17better if I had something to watch this weekend.
- 0:19Yeah, I mean, well, me because they made playoffs.
- 0:22I mean, you're not a basketball guy, but you know, make the most
- 0:24of your time. You know, you got you got the
- 0:26NCAA tournament still. And that is?
- 0:29Look, I'm not Jay Johnson said it best.
- 0:32You know we. Talked about it.
- 0:34Last night, I'm not going to pay too much attention to the NCAA
- 0:38tournament this year. I have a lot to work with, a lot
- 0:42of all this stuff work that I'm working on so.
- 0:44Hey, probably disrespected. For next year, so I watch a
- 0:48little bit of it, but my team's not in it this year, so I've got
- 0:53some other priorities I need to take care of for the next couple
- 0:56weeks. Yeah, I mean, listen, I mean, as
- 0:59we go, we have different priorities.
- 1:00I respect the, as you know, my, the the host, the the patriarch
- 1:04of the show, you know, just alluding to it's no secret
- 1:06anymore. So I, I beloved LSU Tigers did
- 1:09not make the NCAA tournament in the sport of baseball for the
- 1:12first time since 2011. So this is only the going back
- 1:16to the mid 80s. So basically when Skip Berman
- 1:19took over in 981984, we've missed the tournament about five
- 1:23times total since then. Yeah.
- 1:25So just to put it in context, you know, we so since first time
- 1:29since 2011. So to put it in context, just
- 1:32And I were juniors in high school, so when the last time we
- 1:35missed the tournament, so. That was that long ago.
- 1:38Yeah, and and listen, like and junior year was my least
- 1:41favorite year of high school by far, with all the A/C, A/C, T
- 1:45prep and stuff. Worst academic year person was I
- 1:49was like it. It was a one to forget.
- 1:52And baseball, Yeah. You know, before that, the time
- 1:57before that, that they missed the NCAA tournament.
- 1:59They even missed the SEC tournament.
- 2:01Yes. Was 2007, but even into as bad
- 2:06as 2007 was, they still had twelve wins in the SEC.
- 2:10Yes, that's true. This is the first time in 50
- 2:14years that all three major men's sports have been a let down with
- 2:20losing records. In the SEC.
- 2:22We had football go 3:00 and 5:00, basketball, just I don't
- 2:26even think they won an SEC game. Then baseball.
- 2:32Went nine and what, 21? Yeah.
- 2:36Including so there to that point, we got split five times
- 2:42this season or finished the regular season 29 and 27 with
- 2:45the 921 conference record. So.
- 2:48We allowed eleven plus runs in seven straight conference games
- 2:52and six straight games in general.
- 2:53So including like the mid we gave so out of seven, seven
- 2:56straight 11 plus runs allowed in in conference.
- 3:00So we talked about like some uncharted territory historically
- 3:03for the program, especially in conference.
- 3:06But so they finished it direct the the the season in total with
- 3:09the 1 playoffs, so 30 and 28 because they want did we beat
- 3:13the Oklahoma? I'm sorry, it would be.
- 3:15Oklahoma in the first round lost.
- 3:17Lost. Auburn, yeah.
- 3:19Their hearts just wasn't in it this year.
- 3:21You had guys like Derek Curio more looking forward, I think to
- 3:24the draft towards the end of the season.
- 3:26Once they figured out that they had tough times, they had to win
- 3:31the SEC Tournament, you know? Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:35I will say this, the SEC tournament, they did a lot of
- 3:38things right. One thing they need to do is get
- 3:41rid of all the mikes on the field.
- 3:46I personally. OK, so me and my sister and my
- 3:50cousin was talking about it. Our top five SEC tournament
- 3:54moments. My top five would definitely
- 3:58have to be it coming in at #5 is Sharon running off that mile and
- 4:02yell at FU in the umpire going to tell him something when he's
- 4:07walking up the mound and he just hits him with the he keeps
- 4:10walking. Yeah, and The funny thing about
- 4:12that real quick is just they, you know, they do without the
- 4:16profanity. But like I just well, I will say
- 4:18when I was watching that rewatched, like I love the fire
- 4:22like you and do or die man, just like he's pumping up these guys.
- 4:26I love the fire and that and granted I know it's a do or die
- 4:29moment but still. Like that's something they
- 4:31really need in that moment. Yeah.
- 4:34I love that, especially with the offense wasn't rolling.
- 4:36I love that, and I also love the thumbs up to the umpire when
- 4:39he's walking back to the dugout when he's getting yelled at.
- 4:42See, listen, I can be and I can be composed to.
- 4:44That's it. Cool bro, got.
- 4:46You that's that is top that's number five on my top five list
- 4:52#4 is when we played Auburn, I think it was four years ago in
- 4:56the SEC tournament, they had us beat and then the catcher
- 4:59completely lost the ball on a pass ball and we end up winning.
- 5:03But because of that number 3 is in 24 when we were playing South
- 5:10Carolina and they had that catches interference and Hayden
- 5:14Travinsky called the protest and they protested #2 is when
- 5:18Brightman caught that ball off the christening bars head for
- 5:20the out. And then #1 is just that whole
- 5:25Todd Peterson hitting the double 203 run double off the wall and
- 5:31telling pulmonary coach I hit nukes in high school.
- 5:39You know, I mean, that was so hilarious.
- 5:41Man, those are my top five LSUSEC.
- 5:44And The thing is, I see that clip periodically pop up on the
- 5:48feed, and it is so funny, Yeah. And then my 6th and honorable
- 5:55mention is when Vandy had killed us during the regular season.
- 6:01And we tend to unload them, yes, at the SEC tournament.
- 6:06They got to get your payback and it's time to do it.
- 6:09I respect that. Yeah, but, you know, didn't this
- 6:12season didn't turn out that way. Yeah.
- 6:15But I like our head guy and I like his response.
- 6:20I love, love the NCAA tournament and that live for Omaha.
- 6:24But we've got too many problems to figure out for next year.
- 6:27I got to get to work, so I'm not going to watch it too much.
- 6:30I was saying like, just The thing is now, as you can see,
- 6:33I'm wearing my Gomaha shirt. I just, I know we're not going
- 6:36to Omaha, We're not going to Algebra N this year.
- 6:39We're taking over from the beach house up north.
- 6:41But listen, this is I didn't want to wear this shirt today
- 6:43because this is still the standard for this program.
- 6:46Yeah, it's still the standard and it's a good shirt.
- 6:49So yeah, why not? We're so I'll be I.
- 6:53Mean look right there, got the cup right there, the other cup
- 6:57right there, you know, and then all if you look in behind me,
- 7:02you got all the national championship stuff, you know.
- 7:06Yeah, it's just I'm gonna back. I'm gonna back up for you.
- 7:08I'm. Back up for you the camera back
- 7:11up, but it won't. That will be cute.
- 7:14Though, yeah, but oh, it's fine. But I would say like it's it
- 7:19definitely the disappointing year.
- 7:21Obviously they had their their high moments, but it was just it
- 7:25what I wanted to say was just like most of this, this whole
- 7:27season felt like it was such a fight.
- 7:29You know, it was just such a struggle.
- 7:31It was not granted you going to I'm not naive to think you're
- 7:34going to just go undefeated in baseball.
- 7:36It's just wildly unrealistic win every game about 10-15 runs.
- 7:40But but it's just it was this year was something, it was just
- 7:42such a fight and a struggle even in the series that you won in a
- 7:46conference like Kentucky was such a struggle.
- 7:49Tennessee was a struggle. Like it was just, it was nothing
- 7:52like when they was really pulled away that you just like you just
- 7:56fully confident in them to make a huge run.
- 8:00Even when you have momentum, it's just like it almost
- 8:04immediately just vanished. Exactly.
- 8:07It was such a struggle this year.
- 8:09And you know, the pitching still led the CC and strikeouts.
- 8:15That that still blows my mind. You know, it reminds me, you
- 8:18know, that's that reminds me of like the NFL example, just the
- 8:232010 San Diego Chargers. They had the number one offense
- 8:27in the league that the NF LS #1 defense and still missed the
- 8:31playoffs. Yeah.
- 8:32Because their special teams was the worst in the league.
- 8:35I'm like, that is impossible. Not apple to Apple, of course,
- 8:39but it's just as bad as as so far as the the mile was this
- 8:45year. And that was my biggest question
- 8:47coming into the year was the mound as we did our yeah, go
- 8:50ahead. You know, we led the SEC in
- 8:53strikeouts, but the thing that got us is we also led the mile,
- 9:01led the country, but we definitely led the SEC in walks,
- 9:04hit by pitches, free bases. Yep, the the free passes Dennis
- 9:09in this year big time man, you just and when, when and it's
- 9:13disappointing because you already have a struggling
- 9:16defence in the field and there was like the worst in the in the
- 9:19conference, I think, but just if not one of the worst, at least
- 9:23for sure, but just. For sure.
- 9:25It's just like you just you have to complement each other.
- 9:30Team sports is all complementary at least, like especially even
- 9:33more so. We don't have any, any lead unit
- 9:37anywhere. Yeah, At least if you have an
- 9:39elite unit, like whether it's offensively with the bats or
- 9:42whether it's, you know, in the field or on the mound is at
- 9:46least you can have something to fall back on more times than
- 9:49not. But that was not the case at any
- 9:51point this year when the pitcher was strong in the middle of the
- 9:54year. Offense has not existed.
- 9:57OK, so I just pulled it up. That's what I've been doing.
- 10:01We ended up building with the better fielding percentage than
- 10:06I thought we would. We had a 967 fielding
- 10:09percentage. Still not stellar, but it'll
- 10:12suffice. It'll suffice, you know.
- 10:14Derek Curiel led the team in batting average at 3:53.
- 10:19It really came on the last part of the year.
- 10:21Man, that is incredible. Aaron Beauty was the second one
- 10:25with three 1718 home runs, then Mason Braun, then Jake Brown
- 10:31with 16 home runs, Omar Serna, which I think hurt us when he
- 10:36went out after that first game, Yeah, in the SEC Tournament.
- 10:40And Stephen Marlin fought his average all the way back up to
- 10:43296. Yeah, he just fell short.
- 10:46I remember like my seat regular scene there, like he had got to
- 10:49300 on the dot. I like the stuff they even to
- 10:53his credit like he really finished.
- 10:55He was very steady, especially in the second-half of the year,
- 10:57but just especially with the long shots.
- 11:00So, yeah, I think just there was some, you know, perseverance
- 11:05throughout this year, but just, it just was not enough.
- 11:07They didn't dug themselves in too many holes, man.
- 11:10It was and like just and. Just they did all of that.
- 11:15They only struck out 468 tons, you know, with out of 19138 at
- 11:25bats, but they only batted 282 on a season.
- 11:32And for reference, last year's team, if it pulls up, and I know
- 11:36comparing us to last year's team is like comparing apples to
- 11:40oranges. Yeah, but strikeout wise, this
- 11:44team had 525. Team had 520 strikeouts and
- 11:5022165 at bats, but we batted 296 as a team.
- 11:54Yeah, you know, so our pitching, our ERA was 373.
- 12:01And let's see, strikeouts, we had 760 strikeouts.
- 12:08We only walked 269. And here's one that we didn't
- 12:15talk about wild pitches. We only had 67 last year.
- 12:19This year again, I'm waiting for it to load.
- 12:21And I'm listening. That yeah, wild pitches.
- 12:23We had 90. Wow, That's the big difference
- 12:27between. Yeah, that's the difference
- 12:29right there. Now, part of that is for a long
- 12:34part of the season, our catchers couldn't catch a cold.
- 12:38Right. But, you know, that's what
- 12:41happens. You know, it happens.
- 12:44You got to have down years after you win championships.
- 12:46It's, you know, it's numbers, it's statistics.
- 12:49You can't win. Everybody can't win all the
- 12:51time. You can't win all the time.
- 12:53You got to lose, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:56It's just. Math yeah.
- 12:58Then The thing is like, and it's not just about, you know,
- 13:01winning every year, you know, you got to go 50 and and 50 and
- 13:062 and 12 or something like that every year and on the
- 13:09championship, is this like, is this so wildly?
- 13:11I don't listen to do that every year after year, but just in 20.
- 13:15323 we were 54 and 17. Yeah.
- 13:19Then let's see that 24 record and in 23 we were 43 and 23, you
- 13:25know, yeah, can't win every game, but you can win a lot of
- 13:29them. Yeah, of course.
- 13:30All right, let's go ahead and just run down for the the last
- 13:35week of the season, including the SEC Tournament.
- 13:38I mean. This is how the powerhouse poles
- 13:41broke down, and then I'll share the screen with the spreadsheet
- 13:45and we can go over the winners. Come and Dad, just I know I for
- 13:51light. So yeah, our final week we did
- 13:54like Justin just said, we did the we accounted for the Florida
- 13:57Series and the two games in the tournament since they only
- 13:59played two games. So A5 we accounted for the last
- 14:02week of the polls for like the five games that ended their
- 14:05season. I'm going to start off with my
- 14:07pitching. Pitching #1 I got Devis Sheeran
- 14:11#2 I got Grant final and #3 I got Case in Evans.
- 14:14You know, Sharon threw 7 K's in his last two items by the
- 14:17season. You know, Fondo had minimal
- 14:19damage in his two games, but he did it.
- 14:21The thing with with Fondo, he did it on he played two games on
- 14:25three days rest. So just a quick turn around for
- 14:28him is just the fact that for yes, you have minimal damage,
- 14:31you have some damage, but guy played on like 72 hours.
- 14:34I was like you need longer rest in that and like just for him to
- 14:37just even produce that much like with his with a worn out arm.
- 14:42I think that's so impressive, especially in the time that it's
- 14:45in which they needed it. And lastly, you know with Cason,
- 14:48you know, despite allowing two runs in the walk versus Auburn,
- 14:51he threw 8 KS. He was dealing for most of the
- 14:53game, which is the most by any pitcher, LSU pitcher in the last
- 14:57five games to end the year. But just so even though he gave
- 15:01up the two runs, that was the difference of the game.
- 15:04Understand that he limited the damage to keep LS US offense to
- 15:07give them opportunities to end and advance in the tournament.
- 15:11Yeah, You know, I've got the same three guys, just a
- 15:15different order. I put thought no, first, because
- 15:18also he got that win against Oklahoma.
- 15:21Yeah, he found out he was the starting pitcher 20 minutes
- 15:24before that game. It's fair enough.
- 15:27Because William Schmidt went down, so not only did he pitch.
- 15:30That's right. Three games and 72 hours.
- 15:33He also threw that last game. I think he went 4 innings, yeah,
- 15:3920 minutes. He found out 20 minutes before
- 15:41the game he was starting. Yeah, yeah, just you can't you
- 15:44you can't ask for more than that.
- 15:45And the fact that you gave your dad, man, just yeah, I'm with
- 15:49you. Damn, brother.
- 15:50Then look, yeah, I give Sharon's my number two guy.
- 15:53I mean anytime you come off the mound and get get yelled at by
- 15:57the umpire and give him a thumbs up, you doing something right?
- 16:01Man, just to find the intentible stuff, man.
- 16:03Just like, you know, the guys needed it, you know, just to
- 16:06really, I mean, you just got to lift you guys up and he did in
- 16:09that moment. He was dealing in that stretch,
- 16:11man, just they they had it. I mean, they could have had it
- 16:14for the taking offense, but you know, the pitching as far as the
- 16:17Auburn game, you can't you can't necessarily bring the pitching.
- 16:20They held him three runs, but like, just and.
- 16:22That's why I put Cason Evans is my third guy for this week and
- 16:27the last one because he did a good job and Jay Johnson picked
- 16:32Auburn to win the national championship.
- 16:33After watching them, it kills me.
- 16:37Actually, it doesn't kill me because that's that's a
- 16:39misdirect. That's not who I picked to be my
- 16:42the national champion. I picked Mississippi State.
- 16:44Yeah, because they're getting a lot of heat right now because
- 16:48people think Arkansas should have hosted or been a national
- 16:51seed. You know, honestly, to me, I
- 16:55don't know how they're not a national seed.
- 16:57And it's no disrespect to Mississippi State.
- 17:00It's just Arkansas went to the championship game in the SEC
- 17:07tournament. Yeah, normally that does enough
- 17:09for you. They went 39 and 20 and I went
- 17:15percentage of 66 conference record was 17 and 13.
- 17:19So my only guess is that that played a role.
- 17:22But just but again like you won you darn near 20 games you won
- 17:25in conference that's two nearly 2/3 of your conference slate.
- 17:28So I'm just. Well, we'll get we'll get into
- 17:32all of that after we finished this powerhouse pole rundown
- 17:34because, you know, I got something to finish off the
- 17:38baseball stuff. So I did my offense with Curio.
- 17:43Curio just finished the season on a hot streak.
- 17:48You know, he started off slow and then really came into his
- 17:51body. I think he's ready to go.
- 17:52I think he's ready to get out of college, but if he falls in
- 17:55peace by something in there that they drop him down to the second
- 18:01round, yeah. And we keep him at LSU, that
- 18:03would be a big keep, big get for us.
- 18:06I don't think it's going to happen.
- 18:08I think we've got a better chance to get my second
- 18:10offensive guy back, and that's Steven Milan.
- 18:12Yeah. And.
- 18:13What you do? And a lot of that plays into,
- 18:17you know, nil. This is where nil comes and
- 18:22helps you. That's right.
- 18:24Because I think Steven Milam can end up winning, getting more
- 18:27money from NIL that he can from a low A or A2 a contract.
- 18:34And then Sarno was on fire until that Oklahoma gang sliding the
- 18:38home and he messed his hand up. And that's my guys.
- 18:42Yeah, so for me office, I got, I got two of the same guys you
- 18:45got, I got Steven Milam at #1 you know, I said, you know, he
- 18:49expelled to play with eight hits and 10 ribbies plus a home run
- 18:52during the F during the UF series and the two tournament
- 18:56games combined. But just, you know, I got Derek
- 18:59Curiel, you know, second place. He finished with eight hits over
- 19:02the last five games of the year. Then I put Kate Aaron BD at
- 19:05third because he was great against Florida and against
- 19:08Oklahoma and Auburn as two of his sixth, his wins for homers.
- 19:11You know, just obviously Kate, Aaron, BD really and I'll get
- 19:15into this little later, really finish the season strong offense
- 19:18with likewise for, well, all three of these guys really and
- 19:21just, you know, needed like their best to come alive and
- 19:25which they did in a major way. Yeah.
- 19:28Yeah, defense, again, I don't even need to say the number one
- 19:32guy. The number one guy is Milam
- 19:34Curiel has some nice diving plays out there and what finish
- 19:37up the season. And then Mason Braun just really
- 19:41set the tone for next season. Him and him and Patrick and
- 19:46Rucker just gave us a bright look at what we have coming back
- 19:50for next year. Without question, yeah.
- 19:54You know, just like for my defense, listen, the same exact
- 19:56order, you know, Mylan Carrillo, Braun, you know, death tax and
- 20:00just Steven Mylan playing defense.
- 20:01Listen, he he he has my bull, you know, best, best defensive
- 20:04source stop in the history of the program.
- 20:06That's just for my, for my vote, you know, just so steady.
- 20:10Just so steady this year, so unbelievably reliable.
- 20:14Derek Curiel if if, if it wasn't Steven Milam on his team, you
- 20:17know, Derek Curiel would have been the best defense player on
- 20:20the on the roster this year. This I will get into that with
- 20:23the like the final tallies on the polls, but this both of
- 20:26those guys are just the anchors defensively in a in a subpar
- 20:29defensive unit. And then like I finally got
- 20:32ladies and gentlemen, I finally joined Justin.
- 20:35I found he was on the bandwagon before me, the Mason bar.
- 20:38I finally got on the bandwagon the end of season.
- 20:40It's like the last film. I know it's the last couple of
- 20:42weeks I had, I didn't put him on the pole because I had I put
- 20:45Jack Rucker on a couple of the last defensive polls for me
- 20:48because I'm this he was active even with a couple of the
- 20:51errors, very active in the field.
- 20:53But you know, Mason Brown likes Chris Stanfield.
- 20:55They were both very versatile. They play play defense in
- 20:58multiple spots. And you know, Mason Brown was
- 21:00just like, like you said before, just really just a stellar into
- 21:04the season with those young guys.
- 21:05They have a very bright defensive future.
- 21:08Yeah. So I can't complain there.
- 21:11And, you know, still doing the least valuable player.
- 21:14Which? For the year, I'll give it to a
- 21:17group of and it's no, no diss on them.
- 21:21It's just they didn't come in and do what they we were told
- 21:25they were going to do and they didn't perform like they were
- 21:29the transfer portal class, with the exception of exception of
- 21:35Cooper Moore, the transfer portal class just didn't.
- 21:39That's our least valuable players of the year, you know,
- 21:42but we've got some awards. Yeah, the box award maybe.
- 21:47In this one, I just, we've got the Warren Morris Clutch Player
- 21:51of the Year or Clutch Play of the Year.
- 21:54Yeah. And I know it says play, but I'm
- 21:56going to give it to, you know, you could plug in any Steven
- 21:59Marlin play ever made. Yes, into the Warren Morris
- 22:02Clutch Play of the Year. I'm going to give it to Kate
- 22:04Aaron Beatty with the four home runs in the Tennessee game.
- 22:07Come on, I love it, but I'm Bluetooth.
- 22:09Then we've got the best team performance of the year.
- 22:13Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 22:14And honestly, you've got to go back to February for that.
- 22:18Yeah. And it's the Central Florida
- 22:21game for me in Jacksonville. Yeah, that's the last time they
- 22:25actually look like a baseball team.
- 22:28You know, and like dating back to because we started the year I
- 22:30think, you know, and like dating back to the pre last year in the
- 22:33tournament we we had won thirteen straight before we had
- 22:36lost yeah, just like they were really even in like they they
- 22:40were losing this most of those games early this year, but they
- 22:43really just took the lead and pulled away and the.
- 22:46Central Florida game is the only time that they didn't come from
- 22:50behind, right? And you know, I think that come
- 22:53from behind mentality at the beginning of the season, I think
- 22:57I told you this and I told my dad, I said that coming from
- 23:00behind, it's going to come back and bite them in the ass because
- 23:02they can't. They're always playing from
- 23:05behind. They don't know what it's like
- 23:06to keep A-Team and keep their foot on the throat.
- 23:09That's what and look, we like we said that for many times this
- 23:13year. I said, listen, I mean the
- 23:14cardiac cats routine. I hear you.
- 23:17I mean, it's it's exciting to see, but I I'd rather team
- 23:21dominate more times than not because it shows you that you
- 23:25can like you can complete all phases of the game on a routine
- 23:29basis because you just the ball come bounce this way.
- 23:34Ball may not make it over the 5th that time, but you know, say
- 23:37like you just playing like too close to the vest or I'm not
- 23:40close to the best, but just like too close for comfort.
- 23:42I say, but this. But yeah, I'm with you.
- 23:45In that weekend, I thought Jack York was going to be something
- 23:47good for this team because he hit a home run. 2 dead, one dead
- 23:53center, but it was right center until you hit that home run.
- 23:57You had to hit it out by 600 feet.
- 24:00No. And because the way the stadium
- 24:03was, the wall was like some the wall was so much higher back
- 24:07there because it's minor league park.
- 24:10They had a bar in the back and he hit it and he hit it right on
- 24:14that line. You know, then I'll go with the
- 24:21best game of the year. I just went off the most
- 24:24exciting game of the year. And that was the Easter miracle.
- 24:26And not to do. Hey, can't, no need to argue
- 24:30there again. They need it.
- 24:33They were trailing. They needed it so.
- 24:35Yep, and I'll let you do the next two.
- 24:40All right, so I got a so I put Kate Anders like when the season
- 24:45started, like, you know, the season didn't go as well as we
- 24:48planned. So a lot of that, a lot of the
- 24:49stuff we had planned that before, like it kind of like
- 24:52we're just kind of thrown off. But you know, we didn't going
- 24:54off the way over here. So I named like Kate and the
- 24:57Kate Anderson best pitching performance of the year.
- 24:59Or like Justin mentioned, more historical.
- 25:02Regardless of how you want to frame it, it's the same spirit
- 25:05of the the the honor. I put case in Evans in game one
- 25:08versus Oklahoma in the regular season 15 strikeouts only
- 25:12allowed three in the walk in seven and 2/3 pitch.
- 25:15I think you know occasion had his struggles this year, but he
- 25:19had the best peak performances because he had also had another
- 25:22double digit K game against SAC state.
- 25:25But I I gave him the edge with this one because in Oklahoma,
- 25:28because it's in conference, granted it's at home, but
- 25:31regardless, it's. At.
- 25:33That time it was a massive, massive game.
- 25:35Absolutely. So just like he had the the two
- 25:38best peak performances, but I don't think he was the best
- 25:40pitcher this year. But we're going to definitely
- 25:42get into that. And I put like as far as the
- 25:45best batting performance of the year without question.
- 25:48Kate Aaron BD and game three at Tennessee in the rubber bats a
- 25:52record, a program record for homers in the rubber mats.
- 25:55Like you can't get more clutch than that, brother.
- 25:57And you know, it's funny, like soon before that it was we were
- 26:00talking about Jake Brown almost had that same outing.
- 26:03So just like but you know this because he was on the heater on
- 26:06the at the plate as well, but just K there BDA clutch a
- 26:11historic game for him and the program in that spot.
- 26:15That's the formula for just this, that honor and that
- 26:18acknowledge. It and then before we go into
- 26:21the last, you know three that just brings me to this, you
- 26:26know, because I feel like these next ones are powerhouse
- 26:31offensive player of the year, powerhouse defensive player of
- 26:33the year and the powerhouse MVP all come from this beautiful
- 26:40spreadsheet right here yes Sir, so I'll let you break that down.
- 26:45Yeah, so when we talk about the spreadsheet, you know, we've
- 26:47been just not been keeping track of these the powerhouse poles on
- 26:50the Google she shout out to Google.
- 26:52But just, you know, just we broke it down, you know, during
- 26:58the season. So originally I put like you, I
- 27:00gave points originally for East pole appearance, but you know,
- 27:04just for the sake of math and time, you know, I took that
- 27:06away. So the points I awarded for
- 27:08guys, if you finished third place, I mean if you finished
- 27:11first place on whether it's beaten by pole just in polls,
- 27:14you would get awarded 3 points for that, for that appearance.
- 27:18And 2nd place is 2 points, 3rd place is one point.
- 27:21So we broke it down, you know, we got the pitches, the starting
- 27:23rotation, we broke it down to bullpen and the others in the in
- 27:27the pitching area for offense. You got the batting order and
- 27:30all the other guys who made appearances.
- 27:32And last we got of course we got the defense.
- 27:34So in the first column we got the combined pole appearances in
- 27:39for the player in that category right next to it.
- 27:42We got the total pole points they amass for that season, for
- 27:45the season. You know, we just been adding
- 27:47and we just broke it down by week.
- 27:50So, you know, the first week was the week of February 18th.
- 27:53As you can see, we didn't do any polls for the weeks of April
- 27:5815th and May 20th. And obviously I made a couple
- 28:02notes where it was adjusted only adjusted only episode.
- 28:05So he did, he did his takes and then we had some notes, some
- 28:10funny notes in the top, you know, from March 18th, you know,
- 28:15Justin didn't submit anything for pitching because they didn't
- 28:17deserve anything. You know, Justin sets a
- 28:19standard, you know you, that's This is why you got to subscribe
- 28:232 days. It's like he instead applied the
- 28:25pitching points to Stanfield. So just as a radical guy guys,
- 28:29so you got to understand like, you know, the standard is the
- 28:31standard. So if you don't like it, that's
- 28:34too bad. So you shouldn't be watching if
- 28:36you don't like it. I like it.
- 28:37So that's what I'm here. We didn't do the pitching that
- 28:40week and then the very next week we debuted the LVD for negative
- 28:45points. Like the the least valuable
- 28:47players. So listen, I mean, we're just
- 28:49not going to give you something just we, we didn't give it to
- 28:52you. But you know, but this but we we
- 28:55have fun with this season. You know this, but you know this
- 28:58even as bad as this. Season was, yeah, as bad as this
- 29:01season was, we had fun with it. Yeah, just like really keeping
- 29:04up with it, you know, I just did like, you know, I've watched a
- 29:07good bit of baseball, just like the most I've really watched the
- 29:10game, the game. I mean, there's like a lot down
- 29:12the stretch, a lot to watch, a lot of highlights.
- 29:14But just like most of the scene, just like watching the pitch to
- 29:17pitch bat to bat, bat like a pitch batting appears.
- 29:21I'm sorry, played appearance, Excuse me, and you're just like
- 29:23trying to just keep a closer eye on it.
- 29:26So because like when you keep a closer eye on it, like, you
- 29:28know, even shout out to wheels by by the way, you know this the
- 29:31wheels account on YouTube guys are unbelievable job.
- 29:35You know, just doing the college baseball highlights, You know,
- 29:39really come in clutch the most clutch that YouTube the college
- 29:41sports wise, probably on on the platform, because college sports
- 29:45is just college baseball is just not covered enough.
- 29:48Even ESPN doesn't do a good job of it.
- 29:50This like I know we got the new the new diamond app, so that's
- 29:54what I was about to. Give a shout out to.
- 29:55I was just making sure I have. Yeah, go ahead.
- 29:57Yeah, Yeah. Go ahead, go ahead.
- 29:58You know the Diamond sports app, Shout out to them because they
- 30:03helped me and you know you can pick.
- 30:06Your. You can finish your bracket up,
- 30:10you know do your bracket with them and do you know do your
- 30:17bracket? I am doing mine right now.
- 30:20You know, as we speak, I'm putting mine in right now to
- 30:24submit my entries for this year's, you know, bracket.
- 30:28I submitted mine. You pick the regional and you
- 30:32pick the regional champion, the runner up.
- 30:35Then you go to the Super regionals and you pick your
- 30:38winner. I mean you don't have to pick
- 30:39runner up for that. Then you go to the they bring
- 30:43you to the Omaha and you get the size of the bracket.
- 30:47You pick a runner up for both sides of the bracket in the
- 30:49bracket champion and then you pick the national champion.
- 30:52And if I am not mistaken, my bracket champion for this one is
- 31:01I picked Tennessee and Mississippi State to make it to
- 31:04the national championship game. Yeah.
- 31:08And I got Mississippi State winning it all coming up.
- 31:12You know, I just like I do it would be was it nice?
- 31:15But just like this would be a good opportunity for Arkansas to
- 31:19pull it off now to say just their best team they've ever
- 31:22had. You know, I haven't watched too
- 31:24much this year, but just like it's I mean, LSU is out.
- 31:28You know, our guys are out. So but like, like Justin said,
- 31:30Miss Superstay going to be tough out, going to be tough out, man,
- 31:33just like good luck to them. But at least you want to deal
- 31:36with the Tigers. So I mean there's any personally
- 31:39can do it this year? Personally, out of all the games
- 31:41I've watched, you know Georgia would be an easy one to say.
- 31:45Yeah, them too. They have it, but I think
- 31:50Mississippi State has the most complete team.
- 31:55Mississippi State and Auburn have the most complete team.
- 31:57Auburn doesn't necessarily have that history of Omaha like
- 32:01Mississippi State does, you know, in Tennessee.
- 32:03Turned it on at the end. That's why I have them being
- 32:07runners up. You know, I might make another
- 32:09one and put some, you know, not using the things, but using NCAA
- 32:16baseball tournament logic and how teams like who was it last
- 32:21year? So who was it last year?
- 32:22Was that who? Made it to Omaha.
- 32:27Don't tell me I know like we got coastal.
- 32:31Carolina, Carolina. Carolina.
- 32:34Those are the chandeliers they don't like to call.
- 32:38Yeah, but you know not. Even talking man stuff.
- 32:41Yeah, but you know, you got it like that.
- 32:43It's stuff like that that but shout, look, shout out to West
- 32:47Virginia. You know, we said last year
- 32:49they. Were yes, yes, they on the come
- 32:51up they. Were you put key players away to
- 32:53come back in? They're hosting a regional this
- 32:57year. They got the 16th national seed.
- 32:58Yeah, good. They on the come up man, just
- 33:00like because I remember like when we beat them last year, a
- 33:04lot of like the good bit of tiger fans was in their
- 33:07comments. I said listen, y'all want to
- 33:08come up y'all state stay in the course.
- 33:10They had a couple guys just like the couple of West Virginia fans
- 33:15like you know they just got a clean house.
- 33:17I'm like brother, like your program has not peaked like this
- 33:20before like at least stand back for a few years.
- 33:23I mean, now we can take that from us now we the eight time
- 33:27champions. So I mean.
- 33:31Now, William Schmidt was our powerhouse.
- 33:35Champion for the pitchers? Yes, Sir, He was.
- 33:39So William Schmidt. Casey Evans was second, Yeah.
- 33:45And then Sharon was third. Yep, out the bullpen.
- 33:51The best bullpen. Missed it by one point.
- 33:54Yeah, so as far as like just, you know, William Schmidt, he
- 33:58had 16 total appearances, the most on the pitching staff this
- 34:01year, which account is is whole total at 33 points.
- 34:06Like justices said. Second place was Cason Evans, 13
- 34:10appearances to accumulate 23 points and like you said, just
- 34:14missed, devastating, just missed off casing by one point.
- 34:18But considering he came out the bullpen is very impressive.
- 34:22You know Zach Cowan, he had AI mean excuse me, Gavin started
- 34:26off really strong for us. He had two very first week.
- 34:29He both appeared on our second place poles and then like but he
- 34:34just kind of tapered off and then came back finished really
- 34:37decent. Zach Cowan really started off
- 34:40slow, but he had picked it up in the second-half of the year.
- 34:43Even his total with 20 points out of eight appearances.
- 34:46But you know Cooper Moore started strong for us.
- 34:49He was like he was started really dominant.
- 34:51He we both gave him first place after the first after the first
- 34:55week and he has several 2nd place finishes went down to 3rd
- 34:59place, but injuries just it was a massive loss for him.
- 35:03You know, just for us on. That was a massive loss for this
- 35:06season for us, losing Cooper more, and I think if he comes
- 35:09back, he doesn't get hurt. He's got my back next year.
- 35:12We have a whole starting rotation.
- 35:14That that's that is like the biggest thing they can take from
- 35:18this year. You know, and I would say side
- 35:21note, like our starting pitching wasn't the best this year.
- 35:25You're right. But it's like they said, you
- 35:28know, you're asking these guys to come in and do new stuff that
- 35:34they nested, They didn't necessarily do last year.
- 35:38Jason Evans was a bullpen pitcher last year.
- 35:41He came in, he was like closer. Sure, he started a few games
- 35:45Sunday games, but then you know he started one or two Sunday
- 35:48games and then he was delegated back to the bullpen.
- 35:52Yep. William Schmidt did start last
- 35:54year, but he started midweek games, you know, and there's a
- 35:57difference between competition between midweek and SEC.
- 36:01And I think Cooper Moore was a starter wherever he came from.
- 36:06Because I think he was a transfer.
- 36:07Yeah, Candace. Yeah, Speaking of Kansas, they
- 36:10get to host the regional and they get to host Arkansas and
- 36:16Battle of the Kansas, Kansas. Kansas classic baby.
- 36:21Yeah. And then we had Aaron DD number
- 36:27one for offense. Yeah.
- 36:30Who only beat Jake Brown out by two points and Jake Brown missed
- 36:34the whole the last quarter of the season.
- 36:37Yeah. And Jake Brown came in at 26 and
- 36:41then Derek Curiel pulled the 3rd place spot with 24.
- 36:45Yeah. So just like it just goes to
- 36:47show like Jake Brown, if he was healthy all year, I think it
- 36:50would have been the clear favorite to win.
- 36:52He should have won because he was so he was so dominant to
- 36:56start the year, even though even with him cooling off a bit, but
- 36:59he was still the your most steady offensive product
- 37:02productor. And just the fact that,
- 37:06especially in the middle of the year when the office was such a
- 37:08rut, you know, just like he was like the only bright spot.
- 37:11But like just shout out to Kate Arbedi because if you look at
- 37:14the polls, like he started off hot for us, you know, in the
- 37:17first pole, the weekly polls, Justin, I had him second place.
- 37:21Justin on the on the second pole, Justin had him first place
- 37:24and but he didn't appear offensively again until it was
- 37:30that the week of April 8th. So when he both he finished
- 37:36first place exactly the Easter East America, when he finished
- 37:40first place for both of us and he appeared on every pole since
- 37:43then. It's at least one or one of our
- 37:45poles every so from the East from Easter onward.
- 37:49The following week he had second place for both of us.
- 37:53The the week after that, Justin had him first.
- 37:55I had him first after that and then like Justin, the previous
- 38:00poll week just had him first. I had him third and then this
- 38:04most recent one, I had him third.
- 38:05So really was a steady producer in the second-half of the year
- 38:09after that rough middle stretch. Like, I mean, he they needed his
- 38:13Med in such a major way. And but it's just, it's also a
- 38:17testament to hit him, but it's also a testament to Jake Brown's
- 38:21dominance throughout the year for him to only be edged out by
- 38:25two points. Yeah.
- 38:27And then, you know, this says something and speaks volumes
- 38:30about our defense this year, you know, Yes, Steven Milam got 73
- 38:36points for first place. He was first place.
- 38:39And I think I changed it up a couple of weeks.
- 38:42Yeah, just because. Just because.
- 38:48You. Know, just shake it up a little
- 38:51bit. At the beginning of the season
- 38:52he went, he was both of our first guys.
- 38:55Then in week two he was my first guy, your second guy.
- 38:59Week 3, he was my second guy, your first guy.
- 39:03You know, we swapped for a couple of weeks going second and
- 39:05then it was a consistent first until we got to the week of
- 39:10February 29th. You've had him ranked at you
- 39:13second guy. Then Derek Curiel got 37 points
- 39:18to come in second. You know, he was pretty
- 39:21consistent on the polls all season long.
- 39:25But then you look at it in a guy who missed almost half the
- 39:31season due to injury. Now he did get helped out.
- 39:35He did get helped out in March when he came back and the
- 39:38pitching was so terrible. I gave it gave me the pitching
- 39:42points to him. But Chris Stanfield comes in at
- 39:45third with 9, and this should say something because other than
- 39:49Derek Curiel and Steven Milam, there was nobody who had double
- 39:53digits. Yeah, and it and that's and
- 39:56that's to go to the show. That's another it like had us
- 40:00missing Stanley all year. That was a massive blow.
- 40:03Like he got hurt the second game of the year sliding the home and
- 40:07he missed 16 games. That was the big and The thing
- 40:09is if you look back. Even with the wins, that was the
- 40:12biggest story of the team. That was like, OK, so because
- 40:15you hear it in the in the from a tiger rag, like they would do
- 40:18the press conferences, the post game conferences and stuff like
- 40:21that. They said like, you know, what's
- 40:22the status of Chris? What's the status of Chris?
- 40:24My offense was rolling and they were they weren't losing.
- 40:27So it was just like without the biggest story of the team for
- 40:30the first several couple weeks. But like just like having him
- 40:34missing the most a year, just you could tell he wasn't right.
- 40:37So like it just like for most of the year, but it's just like
- 40:39that was a massive loss for them.
- 40:41But just like to but to justice point God, just the fact that he
- 40:45missed all that time, he still finished third place.
- 40:49Like you said you got help but I mean.
- 40:51Look in that help he only got I think 2 points.
- 40:55Yeah. So he would have still been tied
- 40:58with Mason Braun for 3rd if he wouldn't have gotten points.
- 41:03Yeah, that's true. That's my point.
- 41:05Like other than Steven Milam and Curiel, defensive production for
- 41:11the Tigers was atrocious. It was all year long.
- 41:16You know we've got pitchers on this list with higher numbers
- 41:22than some of the everyday players on the team.
- 41:27You know diamond. Our starting second baseman for
- 41:31the season has two. You know, Cason Evans has two
- 41:36points, Cooper Moore has four points on this and Cooper Moore
- 41:42has more points than one. I can not count Patrick because
- 41:46he was, you know, for Jake Brown and he didn't play a lot, right?
- 41:50Right. But Cooper Moore has more points
- 41:53on this defensive pole than Brayton Simpson, Zach York,
- 41:59Tanner Reeves. I don't count Rucker account
- 42:01account Rucker. He's got more points than
- 42:03Rucker. He's got more points in Serna,
- 42:06you know, and he's got more points than Caraway.
- 42:09That shouldn't happen, you know. In the circumstance.
- 42:12Yeah, but, you know, in the sake of just finishing this episode
- 42:17up, the MVP of the season, Drum roll, Steven Monster Milan.
- 42:21Not. Not even close, brother.
- 42:23There was literally no one else it could be.
- 42:25I don't know why you people are surprised, you know, but you
- 42:29know. Closing thoughts for this
- 42:30season. I'll let you give yours first.
- 42:34Yeah, so just real quick on my on the monster.
- 42:36So he on offense, he accounted for 22 points and defense he
- 42:41counted for 73 of the poll points.
- 42:44So his his season total was 95 points between offense and
- 42:49defense as far and on a grand total of what was that 26 + 14,
- 42:55you know, so on 40 pole appearances he counted for 95
- 42:58points. And I put that on defense.
- 43:02He had 21 first place finishes out of his 26 pole appearances.
- 43:06He appeared on every one of our poles for both of us on defense.
- 43:11And then like, it's just goes to show you how steady each of our
- 43:15one of the most steady contributors in the history of
- 43:18this program. Like however, like I said
- 43:20before, he has my vote for the best defensive short sightedness
- 43:22programs ever seen. The some of the plays that he
- 43:25made this year was this phenomenal and it just a
- 43:29testament like think about how poor this defense would have
- 43:32been without him on the on the roster 100% Derek Curio was
- 43:36incredible too, but just like. I failed him.
- 43:39Percentage might have been in the eights, it might have been
- 43:41like 89895 or. Something like that without mine
- 43:45that may and that may be generous because like because
- 43:47they were just that bad at in the field this year.
- 43:50Man, it was so rough, but just like having like Derek shout out
- 43:54to Korea because even if and any other team pretty much he would
- 43:58have probably been your guy, but just Steven Mayer was just like
- 44:00a on a different planet this year.
- 44:02Man. This this like and justice ran
- 44:04them through the polls. We went back and forth like the
- 44:07first couple weeks, like it was like there was 123456788 weeks,
- 44:148 poll weeks we did for episodes where we both had them first
- 44:18place. So it's just like, and Derek
- 44:21Creo was 1234566 weeks where Derek Creole was second place
- 44:27for both of us. You take those guys out, it's
- 44:29just an atrocious defense. It's a choice with with them on
- 44:32the on the on the field, but it wasn't their fault, so it is.
- 44:37You know, and it's like Jay Johnson said, we got a lot of
- 44:41work to do for next year, but we're going to get it done.
- 44:45And, you know, like, comment, subscribe and share, yes, and
- 44:50help us build this thing up. And I will leave you with this
- 44:53for this episode. You know, have a great night,
- 44:56great day, great morning. Whatever you have, make it a
- 44:57great. But just the Tiger, LSU, Tiger
- 45:01baseball team for next year. We coming, we coming and we
- 45:05ain't backing down. And that'll do it from us.
- 45:07Have a good day. Have a good one.
- 45:10Yeah.
