- 0:30Uh, you ready, Tanya?
- 0:32Sure.
- 0:32I'm doing one last, okay.
- 0:36I've got, I've got my notes.
- 0:37I'm, I'm good to, all right.
- 0:38You ready?
- 0:39Yes.
- 0:39No.
- 0:40Yes.
- 0:41All right.
- 0:41Bring us in.
- 0:42Welcome to Drive through episode number 57.
- 0:45This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive
- 0:49motorsport and entertaining quote unquote, car adjacent news.
- 0:53Now, let's pull up the window, number one for some automotive news.
- 0:58How's everybody doing?
- 0:59We're doing well.
- 1:00We're gonna talk about how we're doing.
- 1:01Yeah.
- 1:02That's our showcase of how y'all doing.
- 1:04Is it really?
- 1:05It is.
- 1:05I just, it just tied right into that.
- 1:07Look at that.
- 1:07I right on top of that, rose.
- 1:09It's like those where I posted on Discord, those mints, they're called judgments.
- 1:13The, the Golden Girls judgments.
- 1:18Oh my God.
- 1:18You need to find some of those and bring them on Sunday.
- 1:21Could have bought them.
- 1:21They were right there.
- 1:22But I was given the Bob Ross happy little Trees, mints.
- 1:26I mean, they're all like Altoids or whatever at the end of the day, right?
- 1:29Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30But the judgments you could give to somebody and said, you've
- 1:33just been judged, Tanya's doing comparative shopping on HPD events.
- 1:38'cause the prices are outrageous.
- 1:39Yeah.
- 1:40I, I have not looked at any of the pricing or anything.
- 1:43How bad is it?
- 1:44You know what?
- 1:45Just tell me upfront The cost don't make me go through,
- 1:49pretend like I'm registering.
- 1:51I wanna register based on the cost.
- 1:53I don't wanna go through the steps to register to then find the cost.
- 1:56Why is this complicated programming that's really dumb
- 1:59because they want you to commit.
- 2:01Uh oh, she's having heart palpitations.
- 2:03It must be bad.
- 2:05It really boils down to what we've been saying for a while.
- 2:08There's a lot of track days that are Tuesday, Wednesday, you know, you gotta
- 2:12take half the week off 'cause you got a trailer out there, you got a trailer
- 2:15back, and then it's like $9 million to go to some track and you're like, it's
- 2:19not even a top tier IMSA track like Road Atlanta or Watkins Glen or VIR.
- 2:25You gotta pay.
- 2:26More money you have to burn vacation days, which is more, more money.
- 2:31Yep.
- 2:31And then you're driving on like Jefferson.
- 2:33Correct.
- 2:34For seven, $800.
- 2:36That is stupid.
- 2:37And then nobody wants to instruct anymore.
- 2:39So they're hurting for instructors.
- 2:41Yep.
- 2:41Feel like the HPDE is kind of going through a swan song right now.
- 2:45We have hit a breaking point where we were trying to do the math and there
- 2:49are certain sanctioning bodies in the amateur club racing space where it is
- 2:54cheaper to go racing than it is to go do high performance driver's education.
- 2:59As an example, like at VRG event doing vintage racing, if you have a
- 3:03vintage car, one that qualifies, it is cheaper to go do that than it is to
- 3:07go run Summit Point on a de weekend.
- 3:10It doesn't make any sense.
- 3:11And at the end you're going door to door, you don't have to worry about point buys,
- 3:15everybody's licensed and you get a trophy.
- 3:17And if you don't care about being competitive, then you don't need
- 3:20to burn through brand new Hoosiers every session and shit like that.
- 3:24You just go out and have fun.
- 3:25Yeah, exactly.
- 3:26Like I said, this month's showcase is gonna be a little bit more
- 3:29personal, a little, little more anecdotal, if you will.
- 3:32Right.
- 3:32We got some stories to share.
- 3:33Mm-hmm.
- 3:34And I gotta start off with this one, Tanya, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 3:37You and I went out to dinner together the other night, walked into this place.
- 3:42I turned to her and I said, oh my God.
- 3:44Look, it's Daniel.
- 3:45It's Mountain man Dan spitting image.
- 3:48It was his cousin, that's for sure.
- 3:50We're like, man, Daniel's here.
- 3:51Holy cow.
- 3:52So then we're sitting down to eat and Tanya like taps me and she's
- 3:56like pointing out the window.
- 3:57I did a double take, dude.
- 3:59This guy was your Doppel gang.
- 4:01I thought you walked in.
- 4:02And I was like, oh.
- 4:03Oh wait.
- 4:04No, really?
- 4:05Yeah.
- 4:07Same color hair, same height, same haircut, same like everything.
- 4:12We're like Brad is here where we got the Daniel Doppelganger.
- 4:16This is incredible.
- 4:17So what I didn't tell you all was I was in Maryland hanging out with
- 4:21Daniel, trying to get my Simpson back and it didn't work out.
- 4:27Good luck on that.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28Yeah, he is probably sold it by now.
- 4:29Desiree's probably wearing it for some reason.
- 4:31It is a harness after all.
- 4:34Hey, are we talking about Daniel or Gus?
- 4:37Oh, no.
- 4:39Oh, those are some memories.
- 4:40BaZing.
- 4:41That's some memories, yeah.
- 4:43Talking about track days.
- 4:44There's a lot of hand ringing going on right now in terms of, you know,
- 4:48who's going back to the track.
- 4:49And there's a lot of commotion on Discord today about, you know, back in
- 4:52the old days and we used to go to the track and there's, it's like, yeah,
- 4:55but a lot of people sold their cars.
- 4:57During COVID told them before COVID, before COVID, slightly after COVID.
- 5:02People have been getting out of HBDE for a while and there's been sort
- 5:06of a consumer and customer shift.
- 5:09But the problem is, you know, you hear about these events, we're full,
- 5:12we're sold out, blah, blah blah.
- 5:14And you're like, how?
- 5:15How?
- 5:15You're charging like a thousand dollars a day to go to these racetracks.
- 5:19And it's like, what?
- 5:21They're full and sold out the way.
- 5:23Tesla's autopilot is autopilot.
- 5:26That's how they're full and sold out.
- 5:27And you know, I had a conversation with several other instructors and, and
- 5:31even my wife, I haven't decided yet.
- 5:33I did the CI gig a couple years ago.
- 5:35I've done some coaching on and off you.
- 5:37We went to VIR the last time, you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 5:40And it's just like.
- 5:41My problem is I'm not stuck in the past.
- 5:43My car's not slow by any stretch of the imagination, right?
- 5:47But cars that people are bringing to the track, compared to the cars
- 5:51that we were bringing to the track 10 years ago, might as well be pirate
- 5:56ships and the Starship Enterprise.
- 5:58And there's this level of like, do I really wanna get into a 200 mile an hour
- 6:03hypercar and try to rein somebody in that just wants to go full Ricky, Bobby?
- 6:09I don't know.
- 6:09Maybe it's, I'm getting old.
- 6:10That's what it is.
- 6:11Uh, no.
- 6:12It's called intelligence wisdom.
- 6:14We call it wisdom, right?
- 6:15We call it wisdom.
- 6:16Yes.
- 6:16Through experience, we gain wisdom.
- 6:18And I'm the same way.
- 6:20You were coaching longer than I was.
- 6:22And yeah, I do not want to sit right seat with anybody ever again.
- 6:25And I didn't even have nearly as bad experiences as you've had.
- 6:28It's just coaching wasn't for me.
- 6:30And that was the only way I could afford to go, especially now with little kids.
- 6:34And I don't have a car, so I'd have to borrow somebody's car
- 6:36or rent a car or something.
- 6:37Coaching was the only way I was gonna go.
- 6:40I just completely lost interest in, in coaching, you know, even before
- 6:44COVID, I was just like, man, I gotta sit right seat with somebody again.
- 6:47God, such a pain in the ass.
- 6:49Which is the last event that I did.
- 6:51I actually paid for the Audi Club event at EIR in November.
- 6:54I was like, I I, I just paid for that event.
- 6:56Pay to play that way you're left alone.
- 6:58Exactly.
- 6:58Exactly.
- 6:59And I, I, I only get eight sessions out on track, but they're my
- 7:02sessions until I break the car.
- 7:04So I get two sessions.
- 7:05Yeah.
- 7:05You're not doing 16 sessions right.
- 7:07Where it's like you gotta go in eight sessions of somebody
- 7:09else's runs as well, you know?
- 7:11No.
- 7:11And then there's nothing better.
- 7:13Nothing sweeter than packing up at like 10:00 AM on a Sunday wave and bye to all
- 7:18your friends who have to stay there till 5:00 PM and then drive six hours away.
- 7:23Ah.
- 7:23Don't remind me.
- 7:24See ya.
- 7:25I'll be home by like afternoon snack.
- 7:29I'll be home before you guys leave.
- 7:31Yeah, right.
- 7:32Coaching sucks.
- 7:33I'm just gonna put it out there.
- 7:34There's some very altruistic things about it where you're like, I'm giving back and
- 7:39we're teaching at future generation of drivers and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 7:42But it's sort of weird too, like the looks you get from people when you're like.
- 7:46Oh, well you drive that old thing and I'm like, yeah, and you got a R eight.
- 7:50That's awesome.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:52And I'm still gonna pass you.
- 7:53Yeah, right.
- 7:54So all that aside, I mean it is getting more and more expensive and I think it
- 7:58is not just a changing of the guard, but it's also due to the economy.
- 8:03Things got really expensive during COVID.
- 8:06Inflation is real, as we know really what we do.
- 8:09It's a luxury, right?
- 8:10And it's a fantasy and we're living out our boy racer dreams and you
- 8:14know, going and having fun with our discretionary income and you
- 8:17know, all that kind of thing.
- 8:18But right now things are so crazy.
- 8:21Is it worth going to go spend 700 bucks at Summit Point when
- 8:25I used to spend 200 bucks?
- 8:27And so you're kinda like, let me pump the brakes for a
- 8:29second and be smart about this.
- 8:31Because with all the dozing and the layoffs and the constant
- 8:35consternation that's out there, we just don't know what's going on.
- 8:38And to boot, now we gotta retract.
- 8:40Some of the stuff we talked about last month with our
- 8:42trouble with tariffs episode.
- 8:44I also think we should make a clarification that we're not
- 8:46retracting the highest seat in all the land is retracting.
- 8:52Do we even have tariffs anymore?
- 8:54Like I don't know what the heck's going on.
- 8:56No.
- 8:56We still do tariffs to do chips because?
- 8:58Chips, because tariffs.
- 9:00No, they're still all out there.
- 9:02That's for sure.
- 9:03The automotive ones held.
- 9:06But then previous agreements with Mexico and Canada aren't being voided.
- 9:12So basically certain parts that are being imported from those countries
- 9:17are not impacted by the tariffs.
- 9:19So they're not seeing a tariff, but like everything else still is.
- 9:22Brad sweatpants are, we know that I, I don't know.
- 9:26Because then how do other cars imported?
- 9:29Yeah.
- 9:29Those are still, I guess, subject to that particular country's particular
- 9:32randomly assigned tariff rate.
- 9:35I, I'd hate to be the person who has to account for audit and track all of that.
- 9:41I just wanna know where the money goes.
- 9:43We're imposing all these tariffs and where is the money going if it's actually
- 9:47being collected to lower our deficit.
- 9:49Right.
- 9:50You know, I'm not gonna get into that discussion, but this goes back to our
- 9:53anecdotal showcase for this month.
- 9:56So we're at dinner after we saw your doppelganger and this mountain
- 9:59man van clone that was out there.
- 10:01What did I order?
- 10:02Where was I?
- 10:03It was barbecue joint.
- 10:04You ordered a barbecue, place some, yeah, some ribs and some cornbread.
- 10:07Definitely got the pulled pork then.
- 10:09Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 10:10Right?
- 10:10Yeah.
- 10:10So as we're sitting there enjoying our meal, talking with our friends
- 10:13who we hadn't seen in a while, they were telling us about their new car
- 10:17buying experience, and I'm trying my best poker face because we talk about
- 10:23this stuff every month and I'm like, if you don't have to, don't do it.
- 10:26Blah, blah, blah.
- 10:27You've heard me rant about this and I'm just like head in hand.
- 10:31Again, trying not to show my cards and I understand why.
- 10:35You know, their son is now of driving age, so they gave him mom's van and
- 10:40she's sort of lamenting about missing the van and she lived outta the van
- 10:44for so many years and she loves her van and blah, blah blah, and this and that.
- 10:47And they tell us this story about, you know, there've been a Toyota
- 10:49family for a long time and she wanted to get like a RAV4 hybrid.
- 10:53But you know, the fictitious countdown timer, like our DeLorean
- 10:56timer, if you remember that was rolling down and you know they gotta
- 10:59buy a car before the tariffs hit.
- 11:02Like a long story short, they ended up buying a Honda and she's.
- 11:05Not really in love with it.
- 11:06She's sort of okay with it.
- 11:08So it made me stop and think for a second.
- 11:10Maybe it's my tinfoil hat.
- 11:12Was all this a scam to get people to buy new cars because the automotive market
- 11:17has been soft for the last couple years and people are keeping their cars longer.
- 11:21Yes.
- 11:22Yes and no.
- 11:23Okay.
- 11:23I think the tariffs exist.
- 11:25I think there's a certain amount of sensationalism and panic that
- 11:29went with the communication of it.
- 11:31Oh, what was I just listening to?
- 11:33Where they were talking about tariffs and this, that, and the
- 11:36other, and there's actually, there's people taking advantage of it.
- 11:38Like we said, what would happen?
- 11:39Right.
- 11:39How do you know what a company's doing?
- 11:42And there's people that have no right to be charging tariffs and
- 11:44they're just marking stuff up.
- 11:45Because they can, because everybody else is marking stuff up.
- 11:47Yeah.
- 11:47That's very real.
- 11:48And that's happening.
- 11:49I'm seeing in my own world right now at work and procuring stuff where
- 11:53it's like our prices are rising.
- 11:55Oh, and look, there's a line here at the bottom that says tariff and
- 11:58literally like tariff, blah, blah, blah.
- 12:00And it's like, okay, now you just have this extra chunk
- 12:02of money that I'm paying for.
- 12:03What again?
- 12:04Where's the money going?
- 12:06Allegedly into the Department of Treasuries, bank account, Uhhuh.
- 12:09So is it a scam?
- 12:11I, I don't know.
- 12:12Did the automotive industry and others probably take advantage
- 12:15of, you know, fanfare and hype?
- 12:17I. To drive some extra sales at the end of the month.
- 12:20Probably, no doubt.
- 12:22In theory, it shouldn't apply to what's on the lot already because they've
- 12:26already been imported, they've passed through customs, so it should only
- 12:30apply to vehicles assembled, post the line in the sand or whatever.
- 12:35And then any other cars that are coming off the boat from other countries.
- 12:38How fast is the inventory moving?
- 12:40I don't know.
- 12:41Who are you to say that you know, X, Y, ZBMW from Germany off the
- 12:45line was here or not here already?
- 12:48Yeah.
- 12:48Right.
- 12:49Like I, I think it's unfortunate the consumer loses.
- 12:52All the time because at the end of the day, yeah, it's the person bringing it in.
- 12:56Who, who's gotta pay the tariff to us.
- 12:58And you know what they're all gonna do is it all ends up back to the consumer.
- 13:01'cause they're gonna raise their prices to cover it.
- 13:03I'm like, and I couldn't do the math.
- 13:06Maybe it was the barbecue sauce or something that was affecting
- 13:09my reasoning, but buy another used car for a 16-year-old.
- 13:13And you know what, I was thinking about this the other
- 13:15day in that thought process.
- 13:16And I think there was something else I was listening to.
- 13:18I listen to a lot of like WTOP these days.
- 13:21So I I, I hear a lot more.
- 13:22Oh my God, you move into Eric's neighborhood and all
- 13:25of a sudden you're Eric.
- 13:26She's worse.
- 13:27I'll listen to NPR, but I won't listen to WT P oh NPR.
- 13:30That's right.
- 13:30NPRI had a long drive.
- 13:32And the music selection and the radio banter gets old
- 13:37pretty fast into the drive.
- 13:39True, true.
- 13:41At any rate, so they have the relevant news.
- 13:43Conversations that they get you up to.
- 13:45Speed.
- 13:46Right up to speed.
- 13:48Look at that segue.
- 13:49Anyway, so I think they were even saying something and it prompted my thought and
- 13:52back to that night in that conversation and I was thinking, okay, the year 2025,
- 13:56you've got a kid that's coming to driving age and you go and they need a car.
- 14:01What's wrong with buying them a used car?
- 14:04Because the used cars that are in the bracket to buy now, 'cause everyone's
- 14:09argument's always safety, right?
- 14:10Oh, it's gotta be safe.
- 14:12Ugh.
- 14:12Well, a car that you're gonna go buy that's 10, 15 years old.
- 14:16Is way safer than when we, yeah, were 16 and we're getting the 10 to 15-year-old
- 14:22car, and it was perfectly okay then.
- 14:25But like the car in my background right now, I mean it's safe.
- 14:29Sure.
- 14:30Got no airbag so it's not safe.
- 14:34But back then it was no big deal.
- 14:36Today you go and be like, oh, I'm gonna get a used Corolla that's
- 14:4010, 15 years old that used Corolla.
- 14:42Is.
- 14:43A hundred times safer than this 40-year-old car.
- 14:45And that was my first car.
- 14:47So like what's wrong with getting somebody a used car?
- 14:50And to your point, have you seen those crash tests where they take
- 14:52your favorite car, the Malibu, and like run it up against like a 1950s
- 14:57Cadillac that's like the size of a school bus and it'll just destroy it?
- 15:01Like it's absolutely bonkers how strong the cars are, even from like 10 years ago.
- 15:06To your point.
- 15:06Well, I was even thinking like, you could go back at this point 20 years ago.
- 15:10Oh yeah.
- 15:10A 2005, which actually is my daily driver.
- 15:14I don't think it's a death trap.
- 15:15It's got all the airbags, curtain, this, the other steering wheel,
- 15:18dashboard, all that stuff.
- 15:19I don't have all the nannies.
- 15:21This is what reminded me of it.
- 15:23It was an article on LinkedIn and the person was talking about how when you're
- 15:26buying the cars for kids these days, you should absolutely be buying them a
- 15:30brand new car because again, it's the safety and this that and the other.
- 15:33And people were making arguments about, well, no, like an older car with less
- 15:37nannies makes them a better driver.
- 15:39They're just gonna get complacent with all this automated turn signal
- 15:42and the blind spot detector thing where CAR is doing it all for them.
- 15:45Like, no, you don't need to.
- 15:47And I, and that's what got me thinking of this, I'm like, again, the 20
- 15:50years minus 2025, that car is still perfectly safe for somebody to drive.
- 15:54Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 15:54It's a lot different story than.
- 15:56In 2000 and you went back 20 years.
- 15:59The 1980.
- 16:00Yeah.
- 16:00And you're like, oh, I want this 1980 car as my first car.
- 16:05And that also drove us into another part of the conversation.
- 16:08So I asked, 'cause I was really curious and Brad, you were on the,
- 16:13what should I buy for my first time driver in Teenage Driver episode?
- 16:17And if you remember, we were pressing one of the panelists about
- 16:21what it was gonna cost to ensure a 16-year-old new driver in 2025.
- 16:26Oh, I forgot about this.
- 16:28Right.
- 16:28Good shit.
- 16:29So Rob Lores, if you're listening, brace yourself.
- 16:31Holy crap.
- 16:32So I was expecting, she was like, yeah, you know, had to go through the insurance.
- 16:35We got the quote and she's like, you will not believe what it was.
- 16:38And in my head I was thinking, okay.
- 16:41'cause she, what did she say for the two of them?
- 16:43It, they were only paying like 2,500 bucks or something.
- 16:46Yeah, something like that.
- 16:47Maybe.
- 16:47Or not even that.
- 16:48Yeah, I don't even know if it was that high.
- 16:49I can't remember.
- 16:49But something in that neighborhood of 2000 or something.
- 16:51So I said, in my head I was thinking, okay, probably doubled.
- 16:54So I'm thinking like, okay, you're probably not at like
- 16:57close to five grand or something.
- 16:58No, ON to the G times three.
- 17:04Literally $15,000 is what the insurance company quoted to add their son 15
- 17:12GT FO one, five and three zeros.
- 17:16So then she said, oh, hell's no, basically.
- 17:19And I don't know what ensued and da, da da.
- 17:22At the end of the day, it came down to around the 5,000 number that we were
- 17:26all kind of guessing was gonna be it.
- 17:28But the original quote was 15,000.
- 17:30How did the insurance company justify that number?
- 17:34He's mail and 16 done.
- 17:38But still, it doesn't fucking matter.
- 17:40Do you remember when you got insurance at 16?
- 17:42I remember when I got my first bill and I was paying more than my parents.
- 17:46Yeah, I was, what my mine was, it was $3,600 a year and I was.
- 17:53Working to pay car insurance.
- 17:56Yeah.
- 17:56For a car I could only drive to work.
- 18:00Yep.
- 18:00Self-fulfilling prophecy, I think that's called is a circular reference.
- 18:04Yes.
- 18:04And I only needed the job to pay for the car insurance.
- 18:07And you needed the car to get to the job that you needed
- 18:10to pay for the car insurance.
- 18:11To pay for the car to get, exactly, exactly.
- 18:14So when the train leaves Boston and the other one leaves Arizona,
- 18:17how many Lito's pizzas is that?
- 18:20It's not enough.
- 18:21Lito's pizzas.
- 18:22Okay.
- 18:22So 15 grand.
- 18:24I feel like you're in a world of hurt.
- 18:26No wonder you gotta get paid $40 an hour to work at McDonald's.
- 18:30I feel like they need to sue the insurance company for predatory.
- 18:33Yeah.
- 18:34Policies because that is absurd.
- 18:36Not even that.
- 18:37The policy that they landed on, is that with the same insurance company?
- 18:40Yes, I think so.
- 18:42Okay.
- 18:42Then what did the insurance company do to justify that 15,000 fucking dollars?
- 18:46I don't know.
- 18:47'cause I asked her too, like when I got insurance on my car.
- 18:49'cause it was old when I got it, and I'm sure you did this too.
- 18:52Our parents are sort of like liability only on the car, do the personal injury
- 18:57protection like you're supposed to.
- 18:59That's state required.
- 19:00That way you know if something happens, but write the car off.
- 19:03Yeah.
- 19:03You're buying a cheap car.
- 19:04You wouldn't put full coverage on a 20-year-old car with a 16-year-old driver.
- 19:08It just doesn't make any sense.
- 19:09Right.
- 19:10But, but but, but if you're buying a brand new car and you've got
- 19:12a loan on it, you need concrete.
- 19:14Yes.
- 19:14It's, you need collision, you need liability, you need
- 19:18the bells and the whistles.
- 19:19And there's your 15 grand on top of a $40,000 car.
- 19:23Well, they gave in the old minivan, so that wasn't necessarily the case.
- 19:27Oh, true, true, true.
- 19:27But I mean, just say people in general that are saying you
- 19:30need to buy a brand new car.
- 19:31There's other people that would do something like that.
- 19:33Yeah.
- 19:33People with no brains.
- 19:34So granted, there's some mitigating circumstances here.
- 19:37They're adding a third car, which is her new car, versus
- 19:40he's getting the hand me down.
- 19:41But then he's the new driver and all those, you know, amortization tables that
- 19:45they go through, all that kind of stuff.
- 19:46But what I thought was really interesting, but there's more, well wait, there's more.
- 19:50Get out your slap chop for this one.
- 19:52I kept thinking we saw doppelganger Brad.
- 19:54I was like, Brad is hose man, two boys.
- 19:56They get to driving age, it's gonna be like a million
- 19:58dollars to insure these kids.
- 20:00Right.
- 20:00But what she told us was, it makes no difference.
- 20:03Now, male or female, they have leveled the playing field.
- 20:07There is parody quality baby.
- 20:09Yeah.
- 20:09But we burned our brass for not to vote, but to pay more for car insurance.
- 20:13So I'm basically screwed as well.
- 20:16I'm like, oh my God, this is why you buy an old piece of crap car.
- 20:21But see, the thing is I keep telling the wife, we gotta buy 'em now and
- 20:24then just park 'em in the driveway until it's time because the price
- 20:28of used cars is going back up again like it was during COVID because of
- 20:31all the shenanigans that's going on.
- 20:33So it's like when you get to driving age.
- 20:35You're gonna spend 30 grand on a used car for a 16-year-old kid and then
- 20:40have $15,000 worth of, it's insane.
- 20:42It's absolutely bonkers.
- 20:44Just that gives me the agita just thinking about it.
- 20:46You know what I mean?
- 20:47Who knows.
- 20:48Even how the automotive landscape changes, I would assume in the next 10 years
- 20:54is probably not gonna be so drastic.
- 20:57But I don't know anymore the world like, I mean, unless they start
- 21:03introducing the sodium batteries and all this other kind of stuff,
- 21:06even the EVs, you can't, it depends, like somebody wanted to be a jerk.
- 21:12What if there's mandates that say cars have to have X, Y, Z features on them?
- 21:16Yeah.
- 21:16I'd have to bend all my cars.
- 21:18Do you mean like rear cameras?
- 21:20Cameras forward cameras, yeah.
- 21:21Automatic braking because all the new cars have to have all that stuff.
- 21:25Yeah.
- 21:25So what if there becomes.
- 21:27Even like airbags and stuff.
- 21:29Oh, it becomes illegal.
- 21:30Suddenly you can't be driving a car other than if you're towing it to a
- 21:33car show or something like your cars have to, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:36Those kind of things.
- 21:37Like suddenly there's a whole swath of the used market that what do we do?
- 21:41Crush 'em all.
- 21:42I don't know.
- 21:42It's so funny to me that they've got all these features that are
- 21:46mandated as standard for safety reasons, which you would think, oh,
- 21:49if they make the car safer, then the insurance could, should go down.
- 21:52Never does.
- 21:52But then they also make the cars more expensive, which means they're
- 21:54more expensive to replace and repair, which makes the insurance costs go up.
- 21:58So you're always screwed.
- 21:59And the driving tests are even simpler now than when we were started driving.
- 22:04Did you know that they don't even do parallel parking anymore?
- 22:06Stuff like that is like not even on the test.
- 22:09And I'm like, are you?
- 22:09You kidding me?
- 22:10Especially on the East coast, if you don't know how to parallel park out
- 22:13here, I don't know what you're doing because every city is a gajillion years
- 22:17old and that's all you can do, whatever.
- 22:19Anyway, so to Tanya's point about the automotive landscape, jalopnik
- 22:23another one of our favorite sources for automotive news.
- 22:26Put an article together estimating what it would cost for an all American made
- 22:30car, let's say in the next five years.
- 22:33Tanya, what is that number That they just, my God, $400,000.
- 22:39What's the insurance on?
- 22:41$400,000 car.
- 22:43$4 million, right?
- 22:44I don't know.
- 22:45It's a lot.
- 22:45So Brad, this leans back into your dashboard confessional about
- 22:49why it's cheaper to keep her.
- 22:51And oddly enough, I always used to think it was like a track thing.
- 22:55You know, when we used to go to the track, I. And one car would break and then they
- 22:59would all like systemically have like a pandemic of their own and then everybody's
- 23:03in the pit trying to like fix their cars.
- 23:05And it was, it was really weird coincidence.
- 23:07So you're talking about your car and all this kind of thing.
- 23:09And then I suffered a near catastrophic failure on the Jeep and a knock on wood,
- 23:14I've had no issues with it in the last 11 years except for the oil, the oil line.
- 23:19You had an oil line issue from the turbo.
- 23:21Well that's what I'm getting to, right?
- 23:23Well it came back different.
- 23:24So I had one in the beginning where it was smoking in the cabin, but
- 23:27they fixed that under warranty.
- 23:28It was a BS thing.
- 23:29Yeah.
- 23:29This would've left me debilitated on the side of the road.
- 23:32So long story short, I found out that the transmission cooler line was rubbing into
- 23:38the oil pan, and it had cut itself a hole.
- 23:41And if it vibrated the wrong way, it would just start puking
- 23:44transmission fluid everywhere.
- 23:45I thought it was, the oil pan was leaking.
- 23:47And I discovered this after a couple days of driving into the city, as I tend
- 23:51to do when my wife's outta town, to, you know, drop the girls off and stuff.
- 23:54And so it got to the point where it was puddling in the
- 23:57driveway like significantly.
- 23:58And I'm like, Ooh, we got a big issue.
- 24:00Got under there, figured it out.
- 24:02And I figured, all right, I'll order new part.
- 24:04We're in the middle of tariff time.
- 24:06I will bite the bullet.
- 24:07The Jeep has been a workhorse for years.
- 24:09It's dependable, it's reliable.
- 24:11I love it.
- 24:11It's a great place to be and all that.
- 24:13And I order the part from a Mopar Parts place in Texas.
- 24:17I'm like, yeah, exciting.
- 24:18It's, uh, it's 200 bucks.
- 24:19I'll change it.
- 24:20It looks like it's gonna be a pretty big job.
- 24:22No biggie.
- 24:23I've done worse.
- 24:24They call me two days later and they're like, so the part you ordered
- 24:27is not the part for your Jeep.
- 24:28The part you want is no longer available.
- 24:31What?
- 24:31Oh, you're kidding me.
- 24:32Right?
- 24:33So I started looking into it.
- 24:34It has to do with the diesel, it has to do with the transfer case, the way it
- 24:37routes, you know, they only made 35,000 of those particular Jeeps in two years.
- 24:42Like global production numbers were very, very low.
- 24:44So a lot of this very specific parts are starting to disappear, which
- 24:48has got me a little bit nervous.
- 24:49So I started calling around, trying to see is there new old stock somewhere?
- 24:53Is somebody sitting on one by chance?
- 24:54Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing.
- 24:56So I, two options I'm gonna take to the fab shop and have it all ripped
- 24:59out, replaced custom made lines, and you know, pay the piper do that.
- 25:03But my first course of action.
- 25:04Was the tried and true fix it with some Volkswagen parts.
- 25:09Oh well yeah, that's how you fix anything.
- 25:10That's how, yeah.
- 25:11So once again, the legend continues.
- 25:14Mm-hmm.
- 25:14My Jeep is back on the road, although I need to do, I now need to refill
- 25:17the transmission 'cause I don't know how much fluid I've lost.
- 25:19So it's still parked, but it is no longer leaking.
- 25:22So this is awesome.
- 25:25Uh oh.
- 25:26Yeah.
- 25:26The Jeep's been down, which means I'm driving the wagon again.
- 25:33I didn't realize you had stopped driving the wagon.
- 25:35Wait, do I not know this story?
- 25:37No, no, no, no, no.
- 25:38So like, I've had to go on some excursions now, like I drove up to Watkins Glen
- 25:42with it and like all these longer trips because you know, I had all this
- 25:45stuff planned and it's not gonna stop me and I, the car's 23 years old now.
- 25:48It's like I'm not worried about it.
- 25:50It's been reliable too as all get out.
- 25:52But this goes back to the conversation of when we were younger, you
- 25:55in the old days, the good old days, we were beating our chest.
- 25:58We had our first cars and it didn't matter if the AC worked because what did we have?
- 26:02We had AC 2 55 rolled the windows down 55 mile an hour, except when it's the rainy
- 26:07season and it's humid and it's gross and you have no air conditioning, that is the
- 26:11most disgusting place on the planet to be.
- 26:13Oh, and by the way, when you get stuck in traffic with a VR six, uh, where does all
- 26:18the heat from the engine compartment end?
- 26:22In the interior.
- 26:23Mm-hmm.
- 26:24That's like this car here.
- 26:25You have this blast of air.
- 26:27No matter what, it burns your leg.
- 26:32I had to go to a meeting and I had to drive quite a ways.
- 26:34I got stuck in track.
- 26:35It took me three hours to get where I was going and first gear most of the way.
- 26:39And I'm just like, please God, don't let me have like big armpit, sweat stains.
- 26:43It was like a sauna in there.
- 26:45I was just dying.
- 26:46And then you try to crack the windows and then shit's all fogging up.
- 26:50Oh, it was awful.
- 26:51So I'm gonna give you a life hack.
- 26:53What you do is you find a gym, right?
- 26:56You a national chain with the most locations.
- 27:00Okay?
- 27:01You sign up for the national membership, get in.
- 27:04I heard about this.
- 27:05You take a change of clothes with you and then you shower.
- 27:08Right by wherever your destination is.
- 27:10Planet Fitness.
- 27:11Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:11Yes, yes.
- 27:12You sign up Planet Fitness, $20 a month gets you the black
- 27:15membership, which is the uhhuh, all the, the national membership.
- 27:19And then you can shower anywhere.
- 27:20You take a change.
- 27:21Clothes in the context of Big Brother is always listening.
- 27:24They always say Your phone is always listening or recording or doing whatever.
- 27:28It's like, who cares?
- 27:29Popped up in my feed, you know, after I lost 10 pounds of sweat, another op
- 27:33article, windows down impact on miles per gallon versus air conditioning.
- 27:38And I'm like, oh, here we go.
- 27:39So I read the article and it's always the same old story.
- 27:42Parasitic drag of the air condition on the motor, chew up
- 27:45miles per gallon, especially the hotter it is, yada yada, yada.
- 27:48So if you can deal with AC 2 55, like when we were young and dumb,
- 27:52you're gonna get better gas mileage.
- 27:53So I will say in testament to that, would you like to guess what
- 27:57I was getting on the highway out of a 23-year-old, six cylinder.
- 28:01I can't guess.
- 28:02I don't care what.
- 28:05He is like, it's better than my truck.
- 28:06Yeah.
- 28:08My, my, yeah.
- 28:08My truck sits solidly at 16.
- 28:10I am proud of my vr.
- 28:136 28 miles to the gallon.
- 28:1528 is impressive.
- 28:17I was gonna say 21.
- 28:18Right.
- 28:1828 miles to the gallon.
- 28:20That's damn good.
- 28:21And that's not some BS computer figuring out, that's literally, I
- 28:25drove this far and I pumped that much.
- 28:27That's what I consume from full.
- 28:29So even if I'm off by a couple miles, let's say it's 26, dude,
- 28:32that's pretty damn good for let's say almost 25-year-old car.
- 28:36We're a quote unquote performance car.
- 28:37Yeah.
- 28:38And I'm chipped and everything else.
- 28:39It's like, come on.
- 28:40But that's not the end of our Volkswagen drama, is it Tanya?
- 28:43Well, there's more act now for just 9 99 a month.
- 28:46So you know Tanya got her diesel back on the road, right?
- 28:49I did not.
- 28:50You do the motor swab?
- 28:51Yeah.
- 28:51Fresh motor and all that.
- 28:52We want me to talk about my beetle woes.
- 28:55We have a mystery on our hands.
- 28:56We started off talking about track days, this, that, and the other, right?
- 28:59Yeah.
- 28:59I haven't done a track day.
- 29:01I didn't do any last year because I was driving the beetle all year and
- 29:03I said, I can't risk my only car now.
- 29:06Something happening and then I don't have a car to drive.
- 29:09Granted, the VR six would've been at my disposal had I needed it,
- 29:13which you used it for a time, which I did have to use a couple times.
- 29:16But nonetheless, I said, you know, I'm not gonna do any track days.
- 29:18We end up doing any, we'll share the other VR six or something and blah, blah.
- 29:23So in hindsight, I think it was very good that I didn't do any track days.
- 29:28I started having this mysterious issue where I was watching the temperature
- 29:32gauge go really high and then it would suddenly swing back down and then it
- 29:36would go really high and swing back down and then settle back and be like normal.
- 29:40And that's my secondary temperature gauge the actual.
- 29:43Temperature gauge of the car doesn't exist, and it's just a
- 29:46colored light that changes for you.
- 29:47Mm-hmm.
- 29:48Never went red to indicate that there was some sort of catastrophic
- 29:51temperature situation that was happening.
- 29:53So I'm like, okay, maybe my gauge is going bad, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 29:55This was also winter time.
- 29:57This was also around the time when it was literally below zero Fahrenheit in the
- 30:02area, which I think was also a blessing.
- 30:04So cars running fine, running great poles, all this stuff.
- 30:07I got the other car back running.
- 30:09It was just before.
- 30:10It was just before I was about to get the other car back running.
- 30:12We said, oh, let's take a look at it, see what's going on.
- 30:15Realize the coolant wasn't circulating.
- 30:17We opened up the thermostat.
- 30:18Thought it looked kind of funny when you looked in on the water pump.
- 30:21Thought, oh, maybe the water pump blew up somehow, you
- 30:24know, and it's not circulating.
- 30:25So we said, while we were at it, we swapped to an open
- 30:28thermostat, blah, blah, blah.
- 30:29Put all that back together.
- 30:31Turned the car back on, trying to get things flowing again,
- 30:34diagnosed this, that, and the other.
- 30:36Long story short, suddenly it starts billowing white smoke out
- 30:39the back and like the temperature's rising, the coolant's not flowing.
- 30:43We're like, shut it down.
- 30:45I bring it back, park it in my garage.
- 30:47Next thing you know, I've got an oil puddle that magically appeared.
- 30:50The car doesn't drip a fricking dot of oil.
- 30:52Suddenly I have a puddle of oil under it.
- 30:54Long story short, I guess whatever we were doing when we were running
- 30:58it, trying to diagnose it and get the coolant running, I blew up the turbo.
- 31:02Holy crap.
- 31:03I got oil coming out the exhaust pipe.
- 31:06That's how blown the turbo is.
- 31:08Milkshake oil coming out the exhaust, that thing shot.
- 31:11We started taking it apart, pulled the water pump out to find that
- 31:14the water pump's perfectly fine.
- 31:16And I got worried 'cause we changed another thing at the same time
- 31:19while we were at it, we're in it 42 draft oil catch can, we swapped
- 31:23it so we closed off the top.
- 31:25So basically, I think it started frothing the oil because I, I pulled
- 31:28like the dipstick out to check and suddenly it was like milky
- 31:31looking and I was like, holy shit.
- 31:32The head gasket like, what's going on?
- 31:34Oh my god.
- 31:35Before we touch anything, I drained some of the oil, took a sample, sent it out.
- 31:39'cause like if the head gasket is blown, the whole thing's coming out,
- 31:42there's no point in doing a timing belt service, this, that and the other.
- 31:45Right.
- 31:45Oil sample came back, said everything was fine.
- 31:47There was no trace of any coolant in the oil or anything.
- 31:50So I think whatever we did with the catch can was bad that it wasn't.
- 31:53Freezing and it like frost the oil or whatever.
- 31:55Fine, we'll figure that out.
- 31:57Meantime, when we're going to like investigate the
- 31:59coolant and all that stuff.
- 32:00The antifreeze, shimmers, like glittery, nail polish.
- 32:04Oh it's crazy.
- 32:05Like fairy dust inside, like metal shavings, like very, very fine, fine.
- 32:11Like everywhere.
- 32:12Awesome.
- 32:13But the water pump came out perfectly fine.
- 32:15Nothing wrong with it spins, no signs of any damage.
- 32:17The bearings all good.
- 32:19So you know, mystery saga continues.
- 32:21And the other alarming thing that happened when all the temperature stuff
- 32:24in the winter, I had no heat in the car.
- 32:26And I thought at first because everything, the car was running great and blah,
- 32:30blah blah, but I would have no heat.
- 32:31So yeah, it was fun times at zero degrees.
- 32:33In a car that had no heat, car actually seals pretty well that car.
- 32:37So I started taking apart the dashboard, which is still half apart.
- 32:40'cause I was thinking, okay, maybe something happened in, in the, the doors,
- 32:44like the door flaps weren't opening, so the heat's there, but it's not coming
- 32:47out and this, that and the other.
- 32:49But all that looked fine, da da da.
- 32:50So anyway, they finally got to tackling it again this past weekend.
- 32:53I think it was.
- 32:54Did the timing belt service, put the auxiliary water pump in.
- 32:58I got a new radiator 'cause we figured okay, the water pump was fine.
- 33:01The thermostat's not the problem.
- 33:03This isn't the problem.
- 33:04That's not the problem.
- 33:05Maybe the radiator collapsed and that's why there's all the metal shavings.
- 33:08So ordered a brand new radiator.
- 33:10The radiator is ancient.
- 33:11Who cares?
- 33:12They're not that expensive.
- 33:13Put everything back together.
- 33:14It's like still not really circulating the coolant with a hose.
- 33:18We were able to put the water everywhere through to the system and eventually
- 33:22there was some air still in it.
- 33:24So we got some of the air out and then I started finally
- 33:26feeling like heat coming through.
- 33:28I think there's a problem with the temperature sensors,
- 33:30which I just got today.
- 33:31So we'll replace those on the radiator and the one that controls the fans
- 33:34because the fans weren't turning on, which is kind of weird as the car was
- 33:37getting up the temperature and we're sitting there and I'm like, the fans
- 33:39should be coming on now and they're not.
- 33:40Shut it back down before I Cher NOL something else and the fans work.
- 33:44So I turned the AC on and then the fans started spinning.
- 33:47So the fans do work, but if the thermostat and the switches and
- 33:51the things aren't telling what the temperature to turn the fans on when
- 33:54the coolant's getting hot, so be it.
- 33:56Nonetheless, I don't have my track car still for like, it's been months now.
- 34:01I think I got the other car up at the end of February, early March.
- 34:05Mm-hmm.
- 34:05And the beetle went down.
- 34:07Basically the same time two weeks before.
- 34:10Mm-hmm.
- 34:10And then I was borrowing the VR six and uh, it's been down ever since.
- 34:13So all this track dock, I can't go 'cause the car's not fixed and
- 34:16I can't go 'cause I can't tow.
- 34:19Wow.
- 34:19So if I recall correctly, there was the motor from the Gus.
- 34:25Yes.
- 34:26This whole saga.
- 34:27It was, if we have to pull the motor because something catastrophic
- 34:31happens, you're putting the gus in.
- 34:32Yeah.
- 34:32Yeah.
- 34:33We're putting in a 300 horsepower.
- 34:34Four cylinder in it.
- 34:35Yes.
- 34:35A hundred percent.
- 34:36Yeah.
- 34:36Then maybe it's time.
- 34:37So, so Tanya, did you blow up the beetle on purpose?
- 34:41No.
- 34:42To get the Gus No.
- 34:44You should have, years ago.
- 34:45Not at all.
- 34:47I was very upset thinking that, like something with, of course,
- 34:50like the head gasket blew and then I Chernobyl the whole motor.
- 34:53I mean, I'm very upset that, that I unnecessarily, accidentally,
- 34:56basically killed the turbo.
- 34:58But hopefully that won't be too much of a tragedy.
- 35:03The Beatle will ride again.
- 35:04That's all I'm saying.
- 35:05Well, it's just that it's so tight in there.
- 35:08Uh.
- 35:09The nightmare of getting that out.
- 35:10That turbo worries me though.
- 35:12I did watch a video of somebody, I was like, all right, lemme see how
- 35:14bad it's, well, it's not that bad if you just take the whole motor out.
- 35:17Well, they didn't.
- 35:18They didn't, but you should.
- 35:21So the joke has always been with the Beatle service position in engine out.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:25Tell 'em about what you discovered in the Bentley manual.
- 35:28So the last time we had the bumper off, I don't even know how we got the
- 35:32bumper off because the way the car is designed, so where the headlights are,
- 35:35there's a piece of the fender that comes down and meets the bumper and
- 35:39in behind in all encapsulated that you can only stick your finger through.
- 35:43There's these two torques and it holds part of the.
- 35:46One side of the fender to the bumper.
- 35:48Somehow we managed to take this off another time.
- 35:52How we got them back on, I don't know.
- 35:54We, honey, I shrunk the kids and somehow got in there and like twisted the thing.
- 35:58It's impossible.
- 36:00So I, I said, let me look up some videos like have take the bumper off the beetle.
- 36:05And then I watched somebody do it and I was like, huh, lemme
- 36:08look at the Bentley manual.
- 36:09Oh, they said the same thing.
- 36:11The way to get the bumper off is you take the fenders and the bumper off all
- 36:16as one piece and you take all of it off.
- 36:19So all of it is off my car right now.
- 36:21Holy crap.
- 36:23Like I walked into her garage and I'm like, what did you do?
- 36:26And it looks like a dune buggy because the way the frame rails come
- 36:29down, it like cuts the nose off.
- 36:31It's wild.
- 36:32Very mad maxi.
- 36:33It's pretty cool.
- 36:34And then what's really neat is the timing belt job becomes whoa, really
- 36:38easy when you take the headlight out.
- 36:40'cause you could just put your hand in sideways.
- 36:42Yeah.
- 36:43Which you can't do on a golfer, a Jetta.
- 36:45So I'm like, oh, this is awesome.
- 36:46So you just dismantle half the car.
- 36:48And then you can do the job.
- 36:50It's no problem.
- 36:51I was always really worried about like taking the fenders off.
- 36:54I was like, oh my God, we take the fenders off and every, everything, like
- 36:57they've never been off that I know of and it's like all your panel gaps are never
- 37:01gonna line up anymore, so it's gonna be a disaster when it goes back together.
- 37:04But actually there's like studs, so it's like you can't misalign
- 37:07it 'cause it only goes on one way.
- 37:09Right?
- 37:09So I'm like, okay, this, this isn't that bad.
- 37:10Then they, they actually thought about this since apparently the
- 37:12service position has Take it all off.
- 37:14Eric, I think you need to send Tanya on a trip or the next time she goes on a
- 37:19trip, you need to take the beetle apart and put the gus in and she's just gonna
- 37:23come home to a 300 horsepower beetle.
- 37:25That's what needs to happen.
- 37:26That was the plan.
- 37:27That's a built boater.
- 37:28It's ready to go except for the minor custom things that do need to
- 37:32still be done to be it, it needs a downpipe once it goes in, but it's
- 37:36gonna be a rocket ship for sure.
- 37:37'cause I mean, you remember that car VIR It would just leave people.
- 37:41It was like say yeah.
- 37:42So I, I say just do that.
- 37:44Just do that.
- 37:45Stop messing around with a motor that you haven't even fully diagnosed yet.
- 37:49Just do the Gus ran when parked.
- 37:52A hundred percent.
- 37:53All right, so as we wrap out our anecdotal showcase here, I mentioned,
- 37:57you know, I was driving to the city.
- 37:59I've been on these long trips lately, and you know, I got some
- 38:01windshield time listening to podcasts, listening to old drive-throughs and
- 38:06memories gone by and stuff like that.
- 38:07Aw.
- 38:08I did some car spotting while I was on the road as I like to do,
- 38:11because, you know, I don't get bored.
- 38:12I'm just constantly looking around.
- 38:14Right.
- 38:14First up on the list.
- 38:15Remember how last month we were talking about the new facelift, Tesla Y and how?
- 38:20Oh ha ha.
- 38:20That must be ai.
- 38:21They put the cyber truck front end on it, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 38:23No, that's for real.
- 38:25It actually doesn't look bad.
- 38:27I'll be honest.
- 38:27I never thought the Tesla model Y looked bad.
- 38:30I was always thought it was funny.
- 38:32It was made with Home Depot parts.
- 38:33But the thing is the redesign is interesting.
- 38:36The rear end is also interesting.
- 38:37They made it, it almost looks like a previous generation Dodge
- 38:40Charger with that kind of skinny light going across the back.
- 38:43So all in all, I kinda like it.
- 38:45I'm not saying I'm gonna run out and buy one, but I got to see it in person.
- 38:48It looks better than it does in photograph 'cause it does look fake in photos.
- 38:52So on top of that, did a quintuple take?
- 38:54If I could do one, I got to see, 'cause I didn't think they existed.
- 38:58I think they're like Tyrannosaurus Rexes.
- 38:59The new two door ev.
- 39:03Dodge Charger.
- 39:05That thing is awesome.
- 39:08It looks really cool.
- 39:10Too bad it doesn't have the thump of a Hemi coming out
- 39:12of it, but it looks badass.
- 39:14It is low.
- 39:15It is wide.
- 39:16At first, you kind of think it's like some modified challenger.
- 39:20Because it's two door instead of, you know, the typical four door charger that
- 39:23we're used to the last couple years.
- 39:24But with that skinny grill, oh, it just, it is menacing.
- 39:28It is tough.
- 39:29It's terrific.
- 39:30Like I really, really liked it.
- 39:32And honestly, if it had a gas or a hybrid option, I would go look at
- 39:36one, like to go just to test drive one, because I was really, really
- 39:40impressed with its stance and the way it just stands out on the road.
- 39:43And it was a really pretty color too.
- 39:45And I was just like, oh man, that's super cool.
- 39:47Yeah, I can't say I've ever actually seen one on the road, but I know that the
- 39:51dealers are selling 'em for like $10,000 under MSRP 'cause they can't move 'em.
- 39:56They're also, they're stopping already.
- 39:58They're discontinuing it in one year.
- 40:00It's like the shortest production run of any stellantis product
- 40:03because they can't move 'em.
- 40:04Well the problem is they're built in Canada.
- 40:05Ah, there we go.
- 40:06Tariffs.
- 40:07Oh, there we go.
- 40:07There we go.
- 40:08Boom.
- 40:08None that maple syrup.
- 40:10And then finally, the last one, and I know Tanya saw one too,
- 40:14about the same time period.
- 40:15It's the first time I've seen one.
- 40:16Again, they're wild.
- 40:17There's rare as hen's teeth, and that's the new Z 400, which, you know, I am
- 40:21still very much in love with that car.
- 40:23The redesigned one that's coming out with the double grill, I
- 40:26think that's even better looking.
- 40:28But this one, at first, I couldn't tell what it was.
- 40:31I just see this black, low wide, big wheels tires, and I just hear
- 40:37this V six sound coming tinted windows, and I'm like, what is that?
- 40:42And it's coming at me, right?
- 40:44It took me a minute to figure it out.
- 40:45But there's that peculiar style of the new Z headlights where it's
- 40:49sort of like the Nike Swoosh thing.
- 40:51It's got going on with the LEDs and that's when I recognize it.
- 40:54But in all black DCH chromed with a body kit, oh dude, it is tough.
- 41:00That is a angry looking car.
- 41:02And when he went by just from the back with the red lights and
- 41:05kind of reminiscent of the 300 ZX turbos, it was like, holy crap.
- 41:09That is a. Good looking car.
- 41:11Much like the three 50 Z was a really good looking car when you fixed them up.
- 41:15And did the whole JDM fast and furious stuff to 'em?
- 41:18Yeah, so I think the new Z 400 really wears aftermarket
- 41:22stuff really, really nicely.
- 41:24So mad props to that guy.
- 41:26Oh dude, I'm in love all over again with the ZI love the three 70 Zs.
- 41:30I like the redesign above the three 50.
- 41:33Like I, the three 50 was, it was a nice looking car, but I, I liked,
- 41:36I really liked the three seventies.
- 41:37A neat little benefit to doing the weight reduction mod on myself
- 41:43is that I. My ass is smaller.
- 41:45The cars that I would never have dreamed of being able to drive are
- 41:49now, I mean, my height is my height.
- 41:51I mean, I'm, I'm, I can't do anything about being six four,
- 41:53but with my body getting smaller, my chest size is getting smaller.
- 41:58You know, I, I can foresee fitting in cars like maybe A BRZ or the new Z, or I
- 42:05don't know about the sra 'cause the SRA is tight for someone who's sub six feet tall.
- 42:09So probably not that.
- 42:10But I'm adding all these cars to my list of potential future purchase
- 42:15within five to 10 years or so.
- 42:17And I'm gonna have to add the 400 Z to that list because I like them in
- 42:22the pictures and I'd like a three 70 Z. But who knows what's gonna happen.
- 42:27But being able to fit in some of these smaller cars that I could not fit in
- 42:31before, it's a neat little benefit.
- 42:33And the new Z, you've heard me say it before 'cause I've
- 42:35sat in one, to me, it's.
- 42:37The Japanese 9 28.
- 42:39It's a big grand tour.
- 42:40There's a ton of space once you get in it because it's real low.
- 42:43Yeah.
- 42:43Once you sort of drop in it, you realize, you're like, man, I got
- 42:46like a foot of headroom in here.
- 42:47And unlike the supra, to your point where the roof cuts off really fast.
- 42:51Yeah.
- 42:51You at six four could get in a Z with a helmet on.
- 42:55I think there's plenty of space in there.
- 42:57The problem is, if I go and look at one now, I'm gonna wanna
- 42:59bring it home a thousand percent.
- 43:00I, I, I can't do that.
- 43:01So I, I have to wait.
- 43:02And that's why I asked last time when we were talking about this, because
- 43:05the last time we discussed the, how the production numbers and the numbers sold.
- 43:10It's outselling the super now.
- 43:12That's a good thing for the used car market in a couple years.
- 43:15'cause that, that means there'll be a lot more of them to choose
- 43:17from when I'm ready to buy.
- 43:19For sure.
- 43:19Sweet.
- 43:20Well that concludes our, our little adventure.
- 43:23We should probably move on and talk a little bit more.
- 43:26Volkswagen, Audi in Porsche.
- 43:28I don't even know what to think about this.
- 43:29So there's a new GTI coming, but it's not your grandma's.
- 43:33GTI, what is it?
- 43:34The ID 3G TI That is it an electric car?
- 43:37Uh, Uhhuh.
- 43:38They are going whole hog on this electric thing at Volkswagen.
- 43:43We're gonna talk a little bit more about that in a second, but I don't like it.
- 43:46I don't, it's a horrible.
- 43:48But, but it's not great.
- 43:50It's a Chevy Spark.
- 43:51Yeah.
- 43:52Thank you.
- 43:52And that's the side profile that I just got stuck on.
- 43:55It has that shape and this weird two-tone.
- 43:58Yes.
- 43:59Doesn't do anything for it.
- 44:01It's almost like the inner color.
- 44:03I'm like, Hmm, that back that, if you just tilted that up a little
- 44:06bit, that's a Mark four right there.
- 44:08Let's talk about the price.
- 44:09How much is it?
- 44:10$54,000. And it's made in Germany.
- 44:14So we gotta add what's their tariff?
- 44:15Roulette wheel.
- 44:1660,000 on top of that.
- 44:18Yeah.
- 44:20But it's gonna have 335 horsepower.
- 44:22Yes.
- 44:23One of the most powerful GTIs produced.
- 44:25It's gonna have 335 electrons.
- 44:27Are they really horsepowers?
- 44:28Are horsepowers even really horsepowers?
- 44:30Well, you know, the Aussies have always rated their cars in kilowatts,
- 44:34so I guess maybe that's, we're moving to that anyway, so it's all good.
- 44:36Kilowatt kilowatts of power that way it's neutral.
- 44:39It doesn't matter if it's ice or if it's electric, it's how many
- 44:41kilowatts of power does it generate.
- 44:43Then you don't have to worry about torques either because
- 44:45it's just power generated, boom.
- 44:47Done.
- 44:47And to this, say it's gonna be rear wheel drive too.
- 44:49I believe so.
- 44:50'cause all of like the ID four and all those, unless you get the all wheel drive
- 44:53package, they mount all that stuff in the rear because all of the electronic stuff
- 44:57is in the front, which is why it doesn't have a FR like every other electric
- 45:00car has, you know, you get a standard hatchback, that's how it's laid out.
- 45:04So at the current terra rates, it would hit just that $60,000
- 45:08just under a $54,000 GTI.
- 45:10'cause it's 10% on Germany right now.
- 45:12I told you the GTI was gonna be 60 grand.
- 45:14One of these days.
- 45:15It's coming sooner than you think.
- 45:17What is the difference then between that GTI and the GTI in the next article?
- 45:23Yeah, so the New Eagle.
- 45:25Yeah.
- 45:25What, why is that different than the ID three?
- 45:27It looks better.
- 45:28This is the two door.
- 45:29So the ID three is a four door and the ID two is a two door for a second.
- 45:33I was like, is this the interior green in the eighties?
- 45:36No, it's not even close.
- 45:37The back end is mark five, a hundred percent.
- 45:40Mark five with the, uh, Ioni five rear taillights on it.
- 45:44Yeah.
- 45:45Now this could be a rendering.
- 45:46I don't know if they've actually built this thing.
- 45:48They're claiming front wheel drive instead of rear wheel drive, which
- 45:52people are, are mixed about that.
- 45:53I mean, I think it looks cool.
- 45:55I don't think they're ever gonna build this because didn't
- 45:58Volkswagen already say no more?
- 45:59Two doors.
- 46:00They were done.
- 46:00No more two doors forever.
- 46:02I There's a scene for the rear doors.
- 46:04Yeah, it's just, it doesn't have a traditional door handle.
- 46:07So it's like a veloster then where the rear doors sort of
- 46:10hidden into the body work.
- 46:12Yeah.
- 46:12Which I think looks really cool.
- 46:14I think I would buy a Hyundai.
- 46:15I'm charged up for it.
- 46:16Like the article says, get charged up, get get charged up.
- 46:20That's some bad dad jokes right there.
- 46:22My man.
- 46:22That is terrible.
- 46:23I, I'm a bad dad, so there you go.
- 46:25I'm confused though by the naming conventions though.
- 46:28What can be confusing?
- 46:29GTI and e golf GTI and ID 3G TX.
- 46:32But they're all GTIs.
- 46:34And they're both a ev.
- 46:36So what's the difference?
- 46:36There's not, there's nothing GT about any of 'em really.
- 46:40No.
- 46:40This is like Audi's S line or Porsche's, whatever.
- 46:45It's just the, the Lexus is F sport.
- 46:48It's just becoming a badge.
- 46:49So regardless of the GTI and E golf is a regular aline, but the ID
- 46:55three golf, which is just an e golf.
- 46:58Is the S line, maybe the Rs.
- 47:01That's my confusion.
- 47:02They're both golfs at the end of the day.
- 47:04One's an e Golf electric, and the other's also an electric.
- 47:08You have a better chance understanding Sumerian than understanding what's
- 47:12going on in Volkswagen right now.
- 47:14Okay.
- 47:14So I think it's less that and more think Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
- 47:19Oh yeah.
- 47:20I could see that for Bronco and Bronco Sport, I, I don't
- 47:23think the new GTI is actually.
- 47:26The same car, the ID two looks nothing like the ID three.
- 47:29The ID three actually looks quite bigger, so they're probably not the same.
- 47:33I think the only real GTI left is the golf R, the marked four.
- 47:39Well, there's that too, but no, in today's money it's a golf R.
- 47:43The golf R is still ICE powered.
- 47:45It's Which is the GTI That's not called A GTI.
- 47:48Yeah, but it's the only true.
- 47:49It's the only purebred versus these other things, which we're gonna
- 47:53slap GTI badges on it because we're trying to entice a new generation
- 47:57of people into the GTI lifestyle.
- 47:59Right?
- 47:59Yeah.
- 47:59Or whatever you wanna call that.
- 48:01It's like the Ford Mach E. Yeah, we'll call it Mustang because the Volkswagen
- 48:05Mustang, the Eagle Golf Mustang.
- 48:08There you go.
- 48:09To continue Volkswagen and Audi and Porsche's.
- 48:11Infinite wisdom.
- 48:12And we alluded to this a while ago.
- 48:14That they were gonna do away with gas engines in the Boxer and the Cayman.
- 48:19But now that is coming to fruition allegedly.
- 48:23I think that's a bad move.
- 48:24It's weird because when a bunch of other manufacturers are reversing course now
- 48:29double down, stubborn Volkswagen way of doing things, and it's your bestselling
- 48:33cars too, like the Boxer and the Cayman outsell the nine elevens, because the
- 48:38nine elevens are so expensive, right?
- 48:39If you're looking for a sports copay or a sports convertible and you go to Porsche,
- 48:44you're gonna buy one of those two.
- 48:46I mean, unless you have 250 grand like we talked about last time for a GT three
- 48:50R Rs, because why settle for base nine 11 when you could have a track car?
- 48:54Why settle you peasant?
- 48:55God, it's so lame to go ev in these cars.
- 48:59It's gonna drive the used market of a Cayman and a boxer through
- 49:02the roof, though it's gonna come out before the new Tesla Roadster.
- 49:06I'll bet money on that.
- 49:07Who's buying these?
- 49:08Who's the market?
- 49:10Who's affording it?
- 49:11'cause at the price that the gasoline ones are at, I mean,
- 49:14EV's not gonna be cheaper anyway.
- 49:16But that's not all that Porsche's up to.
- 49:19Alleges alleges.
- 49:21Yes, that's a good word for it, that they are gonna have a road
- 49:24legal version of the Porsche 9 63.
- 49:27And for those of you that don't know what the 9 63 is, watch any
- 49:31WEC or IMSA race from the last.
- 49:34Three years, and you'll see the Porsche 9 63.
- 49:37It is an LMP one GTP hypercar prototype.
- 49:41What are the rules around this kind of thing?
- 49:43Because I don't wanna be the Debbie Downer poo-pooing things, but why
- 49:49does this need to be street legal?
- 49:50First of all?
- 49:51Second of all, how can it be street legal?
- 49:54This thing would pass no N-H-T-S-A safety standards of any kind.
- 50:00This thing is going to give you the most insane rock chips
- 50:03if you're ever behind it.
- 50:05Big ass tires that are completely exposed.
- 50:07Can you imagine the missiles that it send at your glass?
- 50:10It's going back to the like 19 96, 97, right?
- 50:15Brad?
- 50:15With the nine 11 GT one and they made the Stren version, so they had like
- 50:19street versions of the LeMans car.
- 50:22I guess they're trying to do that again.
- 50:24Who's gonna buy that other than to buy it and put it in a museum?
- 50:27How much is this?
- 50:28This thing is gonna be rich people things.
- 50:31Oh, on steroid for sure.
- 50:32So yes, it's gonna be a one-off model.
- 50:34Yeah.
- 50:34And you're gonna sell one of them.
- 50:36Didn't they do this with the nine 18 as well?
- 50:39There's like a street version you could buy of that Brad?
- 50:41I believe so, yes.
- 50:42It's not out of their wheelhouse.
- 50:43I just wasn't expecting it with the 9 63 because there is nothing.
- 50:47Street about that car.
- 50:48You can't put groceries in it, even if you wanted to.
- 50:51And I wouldn't take that to the track.
- 50:53It's too much car.
- 50:54Haven't we already done this with the 9 59?
- 50:58And that like didn't turn out very well.
- 51:00Yeah, it wasn't a good street car.
- 51:03Uhhuh.
- 51:03Why are we doing it with this?
- 51:05Which isn't even worse because somebody at Porsche thinks it's a good idea.
- 51:09Okay.
- 51:09Because we're talking about it, aren't we though?
- 51:11And we're talking about the brand.
- 51:13These cars aren't really.
- 51:14For people.
- 51:15I mean, they're kind of unobtainium, they're kind of fantasy, but they
- 51:18get people talking about the brand and you shoot for the 9 63, it's
- 51:23like, oh my God, look at that car.
- 51:25It's the poster car.
- 51:26You can't afford one.
- 51:27You'll never be able to afford one, like the richest person that you know
- 51:31would never be able to afford one.
- 51:33You can get yourself an electric boxer.
- 51:35Mm-hmm.
- 51:36That's true.
- 51:36And you can feel like you're part of the team, right?
- 51:39Yeah.
- 51:39It's like I'm supporting Porsche.
- 51:41Yeah.
- 51:41I've got a Porsche.
- 51:42Got a nine.
- 51:43A nine.
- 51:43Four four.
- 51:44I don't have a nine 11.
- 51:449 4 4. Man, you're taking us back now.
- 51:49All those 9 44.
- 51:509 24 guys going.
- 51:51They are Porsche, I promise you.
- 51:54Oh, I drive a Porsche.
- 51:55Oh yeah.
- 51:55What kind of PORs you got?
- 51:56Oh, like cayenne to egg.
- 51:58I, I, I drive the spice.
- 52:00Well, this next one is what we should really be talking about.
- 52:03And I know this hits hard for Tanya.
- 52:05Do we need to like put her on the couch with a pillow?
- 52:07We need to, we need to play taps for this.
- 52:09I'm gonna have to go seek therapy.
- 52:12It's sad.
- 52:13So the Ital design firm, which is Giros design firm, basically,
- 52:18and he's very famous for.
- 52:20Many cars that people would know, especially during the eighties.
- 52:24Volkswagen, Audi, the DeLorean.
- 52:26Mm-hmm.
- 52:26Various BMWs launches this that, I mean, the, the list of cars that he's designed,
- 52:32iconic cars, including the one here in my picture, were designed by him.
- 52:37And so apparently they're gonna sell off the design firms or dismiss them.
- 52:42There is a for sale sign in front of etal, design layoff.
- 52:46Boom, you're gone.
- 52:47I mean, did he die?
- 52:47He's still around, right?
- 52:48Did he retire?
- 52:49The way I read it is Audi bought 90% of the shares back in like
- 52:542015 or something like that.
- 52:56And then when Juro officially retired, he sold the rest of his shares to Volkswagen
- 53:00and Audi, and so they own it outright.
- 53:02In their infinite wisdom.
- 53:04We're gonna build something like the 9 63 streetcar that nobody's gonna buy
- 53:09and spend all that r and d and all that time and all that money doing that.
- 53:13And then they're gonna sell off one of the most famous design firms that's
- 53:17right up there with Pinine, Farina and other names that you know and let that
- 53:22go because they're trying to save money.
- 53:24It's like, wait, what?
- 53:25Here's the question.
- 53:27And it's actually something I was thinking about recently as well, because you keep
- 53:31seeing these hosts and things and it's, it's all AI basically renderings of
- 53:36cars and whether they be reimagination of older cars in a more modern flare.
- 53:43And honestly, it's like most of the ones I've seen, please hire
- 53:47AI because it's doing a far better job aesthetically than the humans.
- 53:53So is this a move to go, I can just have the AI do my designs now.
- 53:58I don't need this team of 7,500 people that come up with crap, basically.
- 54:05Right.
- 54:05That's fair.
- 54:06I don't know.
- 54:07Is that the future?
- 54:07Are there gonna be even more layoffs for automotive designers?
- 54:12Because hey, AI can do it cheaper, faster, better.
- 54:16The only problem with that though is we're always mining old ideas.
- 54:21So AI is really good at refining and combining old ideas.
- 54:25It's really good at doing that, but it can't come up with
- 54:28unique, new creative thought.
- 54:31And that's where humans have to come in and say, you know what?
- 54:33We are gonna move that line like this a little bit because we
- 54:37wanna catch the air a certain way.
- 54:39Like I don't think we're at that level until you teach the
- 54:42AI to think, well, once the AI thinks like that, that's Skynet.
- 54:45That is Terminator time.
- 54:47That's the goal.
- 54:48We got issues.
- 54:49All right, so let's switch gears and talk about Lanis.
- 54:53Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 54:55What about our Mercedes and BMW News?
- 54:57We've got like nothing.
- 54:58We covered it for the year.
- 54:59Didn't we?
- 55:00Took care of it for the next five years.
- 55:02We're good.
- 55:02So what about that BMWM two?
- 55:05That was designed to look like a redesigned 2002.
- 55:09It actually looked really, really sweet.
- 55:11I have a filter that says, show me nothing from these brands.
- 55:14I might have seen that it was like a, like a khaki color almost, but
- 55:18it was really, really cool looking.
- 55:20I would've definitely ignored it.
- 55:22But that was another AI rendering, right?
- 55:24Yeah, it was.
- 55:24No, I think BMW actually built it.
- 55:26I thought, oh,
- 55:29alright.
- 55:29Right.
- 55:30Well.
- 55:30Audi Volkswagen.
- 55:31Porsche divorcing themselves from retail design.
- 55:34Ferrari did the same thing to ping Farina.
- 55:36Mm-hmm.
- 55:36A lot of people are kind of up in arms.
- 55:38The new Ferraris are ugly as a result of not being associated with Ping farina.
- 55:44Right.
- 55:44And, and so I kind of wonder, to your point Tanya, are they using
- 55:47computers more now to design things?
- 55:49I personally like the look of the 2 96.
- 55:52I think it's cool.
- 55:53I think it's a throwback to some of the earlier cars.
- 55:55I'm not a big fan of the F 80, although everybody says, oh, the F Eighty's
- 55:59amazing, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 56:00I'm like, that's outta my range.
- 56:02Right.
- 56:02If I was gonna buy a Ferrari, kind of like the Porsche discussion, I could maybe.
- 56:06Buy a 2 96.
- 56:08I can't buy, you know, anything bigger than that.
- 56:10There's something about this that doesn't say Ferrari to me.
- 56:14No, it says Acura NSX.
- 56:17It says McLaren to me.
- 56:18Yeah, it does look like a McLaren.
- 56:20A hundred percent.
- 56:20You're right.
- 56:21We talked about all this before.
- 56:22I mean, and Matt Yip.
- 56:24Mickey rest in peace.
- 56:25He had an entire series of articles and stuff about like the car design
- 56:31and how it suffered so much just for the pursuit of function over form.
- 56:36Yeah.
- 56:37He used to always say, you know, there's only one design that cheats the wind.
- 56:40All the cars are gonna end up looking the same.
- 56:42Yeah.
- 56:42And I feel like we're closing in on that.
- 56:45Yeah, especially in the performance car.
- 56:47In the hypercar, in the supercar market, because nobody cares
- 56:50about what they look like anymore.
- 56:51The whole point is about their performance.
- 56:53Well, the performance numbers of their stren 2 96 GT three,
- 56:58whatever they got going on over there, 900 hearse, pers, that's it.
- 57:03I mean, they could do more, but 900, that's nothing to sneeze at.
- 57:06Just wait till they all start using Dara chassis, right?
- 57:09They can make the company so small and just be engine manufacturers,
- 57:13engine suspension components, and put those into a Dara chassis and then
- 57:16slap any old badge on it they want.
- 57:18Meanwhile, over at Alpha Romeo.
- 57:21What is this thing?
- 57:22I think it's a rendering.
- 57:23I'm not a hundred percent sure.
- 57:25All I got was a front end shot of the new stelvio, despite my
- 57:30accolades to the quality of ai.
- 57:33This might be a knockoff AI or something.
- 57:35When you see those ais where they show the first with like eight fingers
- 57:38on the one hand, Uhhuh, and it's like, oh yeah, this is the future.
- 57:42Good luck.
- 57:42It's not ai.
- 57:43It's ai.
- 57:45Yeah.
- 57:47Well this looks like a cylon, like do you remember Battlestar Galactica?
- 57:50Yes.
- 57:50I was just about, I was trying to think of, I was thinking of
- 57:53the giant sentinels from X-Men.
- 57:55Similar too, but this it's just, no, hold on.
- 57:58I've got the real picture for you.
- 58:00That isn't it.
- 58:00So the 2027 Stelvio, this is it.
- 58:04Oh.
- 58:05God, what is that?
- 58:07Ugh, I think, Ugh.
- 58:09There's vomit in my back of my throat.
- 58:11That is terrible.
- 58:12This is like if Stelvio was designed in Jersey.
- 58:16Well, they went with that classic late 1940s Formula One grill with the alpha
- 58:21male written across it like you'd see on a, what was it, the that Then that's fine.
- 58:25Which looks totally outta place.
- 58:27It does on a car of this century.
- 58:30The problem is the shape of it's not right, like the
- 58:33writing thing, fine, whatever.
- 58:34I could get over that, but it's like the shape of that.
- 58:37Is not right.
- 58:38It's the Mandalorian's card.
- 58:39That's what that is.
- 58:40Look at it.
- 58:40Do you see it?
- 58:41Make it gray.
- 58:42Hit the horn and it just says, this is the way, this is the way.
- 58:46Did you guys hear these rumors that Stellantis might be merging with Reno?
- 58:50I had not heard that.
- 58:51Well, I read about it.
- 58:52Apparently it's, it's not true.
- 58:54So it can't be, well, it's not happening.
- 58:56But I thought about that.
- 58:57Got my spidey sense tingling.
- 58:59Stellantis merges with Reno.
- 59:01They already have Citro and, and eo.
- 59:03They got all the French manufacturers that are left and then by proxy
- 59:06they would own Alpine and Nissan.
- 59:10That would make Stellantis the largest car manufacturer in the world.
- 59:13I guess.
- 59:15Is that really something to be proud of?
- 59:19Because whenever we talk about the largest manufacturer of the world.
- 59:23It's never conversations about how they're making great products
- 59:28and the cars are all awesome and I'm so glad that they're the num.
- 59:31They're number one.
- 59:32It's always, they're the largest manufacturer in the
- 59:34world and they make shit.
- 59:37Tell me I'm wrong.
- 59:38No, you're right.
- 59:39Who is it now?
- 59:40Volkswagen now the VA group and they make complete shit before Volkswagen.
- 59:45It was what?
- 59:45General Motors?
- 59:46Yeah.
- 59:46They make complete shit.
- 59:48You get to be the biggest because you either you mergers and
- 59:51acquisitions of failing companies.
- 59:54Yeah.
- 59:54So you just make your sinking ship bigger.
- 59:57This whole Nissan pokey pokey that's been going on.
- 1:00:00Right.
- 1:00:00We talked about how Honda was gonna merge with them and then, you
- 1:00:03know, I found this rumor about St.
- 1:00:05Lantus and Rene, which meant they would've ended up with Nissan too.
- 1:00:08And then I come to find out that Toyota had reached out to Nissan
- 1:00:11after the Honda merger had failed.
- 1:00:13I was like, okay, that's interesting.
- 1:00:15And you know, you hear the, even today they were talking about, you know, the
- 1:00:18head of Toyota's, like, if a car can't be fun, then don't bother making it this.
- 1:00:22Coming from the people that make the Camry, the car for people who hate cars.
- 1:00:26The 300 horsepower Camry.
- 1:00:27Yeah.
- 1:00:28I mean, it's not your grandma's Camry anymore.
- 1:00:30No, but the reason I stopped at this motor, one article is that it had
- 1:00:34these really great pictures of this new Nissan that they're touting right now.
- 1:00:40But a lot of people might not realize.
- 1:00:42And this is where I got excited is that this is the R five, the new
- 1:00:46one that we've been talking about.
- 1:00:47That's like $250,000 reskinned as a Nissan.
- 1:00:52Just like the Duke was a reskinned Reno, Cleo.
- 1:00:56But you didn't get the manual transmission.
- 1:00:58I keep thinking, is this coming to the states?
- 1:01:00Like are we gonna actually get the new R five by way of Nissan?
- 1:01:05We need to go test drive this car.
- 1:01:07Yeah, that'll be crap.
- 1:01:11New Nissan Micra.
- 1:01:12So it's a micro ma mi, micro Malta.
- 1:01:15Ma. What is it?
- 1:01:17Altima?
- 1:01:17They're all Altimas.
- 1:01:20It's the Ultima.
- 1:01:22I think this is the coolest new Nissan next to the 400 ZI think this is neat.
- 1:01:27I like this.
- 1:01:28It's cute.
- 1:01:28I added one.
- 1:01:29Oh, the Fiat we, we haven't had much there, but.
- 1:01:33Click this and look how cute their little new Tuck.
- 1:01:36Tuck is.
- 1:01:37I saw this the other day and I was gonna post about it.
- 1:01:39Isn't this just the oppe?
- 1:01:41Who cares?
- 1:01:42I don't care.
- 1:01:42It's beautiful.
- 1:01:43I'd love to see one of those, oh, look at this cute little thing.
- 1:01:48It's a K car pretty much.
- 1:01:50Which there's also news about those starting to make a return apparently.
- 1:01:54Yeah.
- 1:01:54And laws are changing around K cars where they're becoming actually more acceptable.
- 1:01:58There's one running around here now.
- 1:02:00Some guy brought one in right hand drive and he runs around town with it and
- 1:02:03he's, he's got this thing on the back, like if you see me post on Instagram
- 1:02:06and tag me, I think it's really cute.
- 1:02:07But he takes that thing out on the beltway and I'm like, good Lord.
- 1:02:10If it does 60 miles an hour with a tailwind and a semi
- 1:02:13pushing it, that's a lot.
- 1:02:14Good night.
- 1:02:15Apparently Colorado has passed a law that it allows them starting in 2027.
- 1:02:19Yeah, so there you go.
- 1:02:19Geez.
- 1:02:20Heidi loves crap like this.
- 1:02:22It's a three wheel.
- 1:02:24This is a Vespa with a bed on the back, but they're only gonna
- 1:02:28be in Africa in the Middle East.
- 1:02:30So changes are, we're not gonna see one roaming around Europe.
- 1:02:35Is that because they can't sell these to the little old Italian guys?
- 1:02:38Probably not, because theirs are still running after 900 years.
- 1:02:43That's why they're like, I'm not buying anything new now.
- 1:02:47The thing is in Italy you can drive these without a license.
- 1:02:51So I'm wondering if that's still the case.
- 1:02:53I've also added on another recent article.
- 1:02:56You've been hiding Fiat News from us.
- 1:02:58What else is going on?
- 1:02:59So there is the Grand Panda four by four, the Granda.
- 1:03:03It's the Granda Padana
- 1:03:07I Donna Pan Granda Padana.
- 1:03:09It's a concept so who knows, but they're calling it a direct air to the eighties.
- 1:03:15Panda four by four, except that the front lights are from the Hyundai
- 1:03:19Santa Fe that's out right now.
- 1:03:20That's problematic.
- 1:03:21And we have time to change that.
- 1:03:23'cause this is a concept.
- 1:03:25Oh, I see how it works.
- 1:03:26It's kind of cool.
- 1:03:27The little side panel where they have the two-tone thing
- 1:03:29and if you notice it says Panda.
- 1:03:32Ooh.
- 1:03:33I still like the other concept that they came out with a couple
- 1:03:36years ago that was like that electric panda, that thing amazing.
- 1:03:40Still needs to be built.
- 1:03:41They need to go back to that and restart.
- 1:03:43You just need to import an original panda.
- 1:03:45They're old enough now.
- 1:03:46Maybe I should go shopping later.
- 1:03:47Yeah.
- 1:03:48Alright, so random EVs and concepts.
- 1:03:50Tanya, you brought this to my attention.
- 1:03:52I didn't know Amazon was getting into the EV game.
- 1:03:54The pickup truck.
- 1:03:55Yes.
- 1:03:56The Bezos backed slate.
- 1:03:58The affordable EV truck to outdo the anti Tesla, as they'd like to say.
- 1:04:03It's minimalistic.
- 1:04:04I think it has like roll up windows, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:04:07Like that's the level of minimalism that it has and its starting
- 1:04:11Price point alleges to be $20,000 after federal EV incentives.
- 1:04:15Why do these look like Broncos?
- 1:04:17Nineties?
- 1:04:17Broncos?
- 1:04:18The white ones in la Kind of Broncos.
- 1:04:21And is that a bad thing?
- 1:04:22Probably the same thing as those Mahindra.
- 1:04:25Yeah, because they bought the rights to the old Jeep design, so they own the
- 1:04:30rights to like the, the Willie's design.
- 1:04:32They can't make 'em and sell 'em street legal, but they can make 'em
- 1:04:35Well, the other thing with these is I believe they're all configurable.
- 1:04:39And so you see the picture of the Bronco, it's the pickup truck
- 1:04:43that they put the cab on the back.
- 1:04:44Oh, okay.
- 1:04:45And then they put the seats in.
- 1:04:46And so it's, it's able to be converted into the five seat SUV versus the
- 1:04:51two seat pickup truck or whatever.
- 1:04:53And apparently it has a payload capacity of 1400 pounds, which if you
- 1:04:57wanted to compare it to a maverick that has apparently 1500 pounds.
- 1:05:03How many bags of mulch is though?
- 1:05:05It's a lot of bags of mulch.
- 1:05:07I like it.
- 1:05:07Actually, I, I think it's cool.
- 1:05:09I wanna see this get made.
- 1:05:10I'm gonna do a Brad question.
- 1:05:12What gets made first this.
- 1:05:14Or the scout, it's made first.
- 1:05:16Uh, definitely this, which do I want to come first?
- 1:05:19The scout, what you should do is look at their website because
- 1:05:23with the customizable stuff, just scroll across the cars.
- 1:05:27You just hit 'em.
- 1:05:28Like look at all the color configurations apparently you can do, and like different
- 1:05:31wheels you get, but it's all like the same car, but it's like, which Lego
- 1:05:34piece do you wanna swap in and out?
- 1:05:36Does it come with a prime membership?
- 1:05:38You can order it on prime and get two day delivery?
- 1:05:40Is a drone gonna deliver it?
- 1:05:42It'd be interesting to see one on the road.
- 1:05:44So unlike the Tesla, you can reserve this for only $50.
- 1:05:47Oh wow.
- 1:05:48They're undercutting.
- 1:05:49They did the undercut.
- 1:05:50Fully refundable.
- 1:05:51Fully refundable.
- 1:05:52As long as you don't cancel that credit card.
- 1:05:54For whatever reason, Tanya brought us another one in the
- 1:05:57category of EVs and concept cars.
- 1:06:00I never thought I'd say this.
- 1:06:02Ever in my life.
- 1:06:03Oh, it's the Russian Ionic five.
- 1:06:05This Hugo, I'm gonna say it again.
- 1:06:07This Hugo is really cool.
- 1:06:11It's not terrible actually.
- 1:06:12That's the sad thing.
- 1:06:13But the front of it reminds me of like the EV charger.
- 1:06:16Yes.
- 1:06:17Al or something.
- 1:06:18Let's bear in mind this is a model.
- 1:06:21Yes.
- 1:06:21Car, right?
- 1:06:22Correct.
- 1:06:22So a lot of people are like, oh, I gotta look at the build quality.
- 1:06:24It's already crap.
- 1:06:26They can't even remember.
- 1:06:27It's like a shoebox size model.
- 1:06:29Yeah.
- 1:06:29It's like a one 18 scale model because you know, that's all youo can afford anymore.
- 1:06:34What is, is it, is this a car for ants?
- 1:06:38Yes.
- 1:06:39I think this is really cool.
- 1:06:40I mean, if they could actually make it.
- 1:06:43Be affordable.
- 1:06:43It wouldn't be horrible if there's worse looking things than this.
- 1:06:46The question is, will the build quality be reminiscent of the originals?
- 1:06:50Hmm.
- 1:06:50Are they just melting down old Hugos and recycling the parts here and, all right.
- 1:06:55All right, well, I'm, I'm in it.
- 1:06:57Um, we're gonna put a pin in that.
- 1:06:58We're gonna keep an eye on it.
- 1:06:59We're gonna skip over.
- 1:07:00Lost and found this time, there was really nothing to report, nothing
- 1:07:04from Chuck LED Duck, nothing from Chuck LED Duck or Gray Chevrolet.
- 1:07:07But Brad mentioned before that we didn't have any Mercedes or BMW News.
- 1:07:13That was a good thing.
- 1:07:14I've been biting my tongue this entire time because we went straight to the
- 1:07:18uncool wall with a brand new Mercedes.
- 1:07:21This is another model, right?
- 1:07:22This isn't, no, this is for real.
- 1:07:24No, this is like a paint drawing.
- 1:07:27The paint app on your computer rendered this, and people are saying.
- 1:07:31And I quote the Mercedes Vision v vis-a-vis is damn sexy.
- 1:07:37And I'm like, am I blind?
- 1:07:40Did I miss something?
- 1:07:41So when I saw the front end, it's a large mouth bass.
- 1:07:44Reminds me of the cars Pixar movie.
- 1:07:48Yes.
- 1:07:49And it looks like Doc Hudson so bad, who is voiced by late great Paul Newman.
- 1:07:55It looks like the Doc Hudson character.
- 1:07:57Why are his headlights doing suddenly?
- 1:08:00I, it's, it's a Mercedes.
- 1:08:01It's looking down on you.
- 1:08:02It's giving you side eye.
- 1:08:04It's side eye.
- 1:08:05Yes.
- 1:08:05It's, and it's name is.
- 1:08:09Gustav it is ugly is what it is, and that's why I put it up
- 1:08:13on the uncool wall immediately.
- 1:08:16You can go vote on it now with like 75 other cars that we have on the list,
- 1:08:19but this is ugly from the word go.
- 1:08:21This is some CGI though, like they didn't actually build one.
- 1:08:25This is just computer simulation, but this is the garbage that
- 1:08:29comes up in the news now.
- 1:08:30It's stuff like this because there's nothing else to talk about, but
- 1:08:34we're gonna get rid of etal design and we're gonna let computers
- 1:08:37design the next generation Mercedes.
- 1:08:39Again, to contradict what I said earlier, this is the bad ai.
- 1:08:46Actually, this is probably human that did it.
- 1:08:47That's the problem.
- 1:08:48Horrible.
- 1:08:49It's what it is.
- 1:08:50It looks like a carp.
- 1:08:51A carb carb.
- 1:08:53That's unfortunate.
- 1:08:55So switching to lowered expectations.
- 1:08:57Lowered expectations.
- 1:09:03I read this headline and that's all that needs to be read.
- 1:09:07California thinks driverless, big rigs are a great idea.
- 1:09:11What could possibly go wrong?
- 1:09:13I think that since we've clearly, we've mastered self-driving in.
- 1:09:19Regular cars.
- 1:09:20They don't wig out when they see the sirens, the flashing lights and crash
- 1:09:24into stationary parked vehicles.
- 1:09:26And as we saw from a couple episodes ago where there was that comparison with the
- 1:09:32the Roadrunner painting and the Tesla blew right through the self-driving.
- 1:09:35All this, clearly it works flawlessly in a three, 4,000 pound vehicle.
- 1:09:40Couldn't be anything but gangbusters.
- 1:09:42When you got 19,000 tons coming, nothing could go wrong.
- 1:09:47This is Stephen King, this is Death Race 2000.
- 1:09:50What are you talking about?
- 1:09:52I only see this being a good idea.
- 1:09:54If it's hauling other Teslas and it's hauling them off a cliff,
- 1:09:57this is maximum overdrive.
- 1:10:00Yes, yes.
- 1:10:01Greatest movie.
- 1:10:02Hundred percent.
- 1:10:03Okay.
- 1:10:03That's what could go wrong right there.
- 1:10:05Let's all go watch that movie and then see the future.
- 1:10:08From the past fact.
- 1:10:10Let's go back to the future with maximum overdraft.
- 1:10:15Speaking of what could go wrong, one of my favorite sections on top gear.
- 1:10:19Remember when they'd always start one of their little mini challenges
- 1:10:21with how hard could it be?
- 1:10:23There's been a lot going on with Top Gear and as we know, top gear's
- 1:10:27officially off the air after they had that accident and that three wheeled
- 1:10:30Morgan at the old test track with the new crew and there was some lawsuits
- 1:10:35and somebody got injured and all that.
- 1:10:36So top gear went off the air, everything went dark, and then
- 1:10:38the Grand Tour finally closed.
- 1:10:40But now Hammond and May are back without Clarkson doing some top Geary stuff,
- 1:10:46and I don't even know what to call it because it shows up on Amazon Prime.
- 1:10:49But then they were spotted at the old Top Gear studio and doing laps
- 1:10:53around the track, which is kind of cool and fun, but also really sad.
- 1:10:57If you watch the video of Hammond.
- 1:10:59In May going around, and I think it's May's Porsche Tecan, and they're
- 1:11:04doing like a slow lap of the track.
- 1:11:06You don't realize how long they've been away from the old top gear set,
- 1:11:10like how many years have gone by.
- 1:11:11But you also begin to really realize how old they've gotten.
- 1:11:15We've grown up with them, so you really don't realize it, but then
- 1:11:18you, you kind of watch May and he's, he's sort of got the shakes
- 1:11:21a little bit, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:22And he's, and he's struggling to like remember certain things.
- 1:11:25And he also almost killed himself in that tunnel.
- 1:11:29In Sweden?
- 1:11:30Yeah.
- 1:11:30Or Norway or whatever.
- 1:11:31Yeah, in that Subaru.
- 1:11:33The Mitsubishi, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:34The Lancer, the Evo, um.
- 1:11:36So who knows what traumatic brain injury he sustained from that.
- 1:11:40Actually, legitimately, I don't think he was right after that accident
- 1:11:44to be honest with you, but it was a nice little trip down memory lane.
- 1:11:47It's fun to see them doing stuff.
- 1:11:49I watched most of the new Grand Tour special, which all it is is just a best
- 1:11:54of retro clipse from previous Grand tour episodes, and they've got Clarkson in
- 1:11:58there doing the voiceovers and everything, but that's not what got me excited.
- 1:12:02What got me excited about Top Gear Again is that it's now available
- 1:12:07as a dedicated channel on Pluto tv.
- 1:12:10You can watch Top Gear 24 7 and it's freaking awesome to go back and watch.
- 1:12:16And my girls were already fans of some of the Specials and the Grand Tour and
- 1:12:21so I got to introduce them to things like the Bolivia special, or remember
- 1:12:25when they did the Olympics and they did the Mini Cooper off the ski jump
- 1:12:28or the cop cars and stuff like that.
- 1:12:30And so they've been getting into it and it's kind of cool 'cause I'll catch even
- 1:12:33my young one or she'll bring Pluto up on her tablet and she's watching Top Gear.
- 1:12:37I think it's absolutely fabulous that this is now available.
- 1:12:41And if people didn't know, I'm like, go get Pluto tv, it's free.
- 1:12:45Scroll down to Reality Television and there's a top Gear channel.
- 1:12:48Boom, done.
- 1:12:48Mark it as your favorite and watch it whenever you want.
- 1:12:51It's awesome.
- 1:12:51Fantastic.
- 1:12:52Well now I, now I know what I'm doing with the rest of my life.
- 1:12:55We gotta switch over to rich people, things sponsored by a garage
- 1:12:59style magazine because after all it doesn't belong in your garage.
- 1:13:02Right.
- 1:13:02Just when you thought you had everything, Brad, I found
- 1:13:06something you need in your garage.
- 1:13:09How about a golf live Cushman golf store?
- 1:13:14Take a look at this thing.
- 1:13:15Available.
- 1:13:15Mecom auctions, I've looked up to see what it's sold for.
- 1:13:19They don't list the price.
- 1:13:20They're keeping that hidden.
- 1:13:21Somebody bought this thing.
- 1:13:23Don's writeup over garage style reads.
- 1:13:25We know just by virtue of its uniqueness and super cool golf paint scheme,
- 1:13:30that if he'd had the chance, Steve McQueen would've bought this thing.
- 1:13:34Okay.
- 1:13:36This is a three wheeler Uhhuh, if you want this or the new Fiat Tuck.
- 1:13:41Tuck.
- 1:13:41I want the new Fiat.
- 1:13:42I want the new Fiat because at least I have a roof over my head
- 1:13:44and you can put something in it.
- 1:13:46It's got a truck bed.
- 1:13:47This thing's useless.
- 1:13:48I don't think Brad's six foot four could fit in this.
- 1:13:50His knees would be in over his shoulders, behind his head.
- 1:13:54I would have to high tower it.
- 1:13:55Yes, I would have to rip the seat out and sit in the back and kind of
- 1:13:59stretch my legs across both seats and just shift in the center of my legs.
- 1:14:03See, and this is where you sit.
- 1:14:05On it and not in it.
- 1:14:07Right.
- 1:14:07There's a big difference.
- 1:14:08Yes.
- 1:14:09See, he would sit in the seat, but I think his legs would be over the
- 1:14:13dash, so to speak, and then he'd just reach down with his hand.
- 1:14:16Then push the pedal, control the gas pedal.
- 1:14:18Yeah.
- 1:14:18Yeah.
- 1:14:20Alright, Brad, well if you didn't like that one, okay.
- 1:14:22That's too flashy for you and Tanya said it was useless.
- 1:14:24It doesn't do anything.
- 1:14:25You can go with the standard edition Cushman tow Cart, which Don writes
- 1:14:30this three wheeler is Sure to make life easier in a number of situations.
- 1:14:34And while it's a little rudimentary compared to some of the other
- 1:14:37items on offer in this particular collection, we wondered if it might
- 1:14:40be the tool you've been looking for and that every garage needs No.
- 1:14:44Okay.
- 1:14:45Okay.
- 1:14:45So it's got a fricking engine hoist on the back of it.
- 1:14:48That's the best part.
- 1:14:50Unless you have a garage that's a warehouse.
- 1:14:53That's useless.
- 1:14:54It things awesome.
- 1:14:55I think Brad could sit on that one.
- 1:14:57Yeah.
- 1:14:57Just spread leg out a little bit wide.
- 1:15:01But yeah, this is the kind of stuff that shows up at these auctions though.
- 1:15:06And so I've made it a point now to try to pull some of this stuff out.
- 1:15:09This is rich people's shit.
- 1:15:11Nobody in their right mind.
- 1:15:13Maybe Daniel.
- 1:15:13They literally half-ass cut the legs of an engine hoist.
- 1:15:18Yep.
- 1:15:18Fricking using cotter pins.
- 1:15:20Yep.
- 1:15:21To hold that MFer down in there.
- 1:15:23Yep.
- 1:15:23You are gonna tell me that you're gonna lift an engine
- 1:15:25and that aint gonna rip out.
- 1:15:27You're gonna flip it over is what you're going to do that Oh God.
- 1:15:30You try to lift a big block, 4 54 with that, you're gonna end
- 1:15:34up with an engine on the ground and that thing's standing up.
- 1:15:37Sure.
- 1:15:38You know, you could have maybe, maybe convinced me with the, without the
- 1:15:44engine hoist because it has a toe hitch on, it has got a little bit of bed
- 1:15:49that you could have put something in at least four bags of mulch at best.
- 1:15:53But it's a shame.
- 1:15:55The price is unknown.
- 1:15:56Zero.
- 1:15:57It did not sell.
- 1:15:58They're lying to you.
- 1:15:59That's gotta be a five figure sale.
- 1:16:01I guarantee it.
- 1:16:03Again, I would take the took, took.
- 1:16:05Don't forget, if you're looking for that extra special automobilia to complete
- 1:16:09your garage, office den or man cave, be sure to check out garage style
- 1:16:13magazine.com for a list of upcoming auctions and events, along with a curated
- 1:16:17list of items going up for sale all over the country, because after all,
- 1:16:21what doesn't belong in your garage.
- 1:16:23Thanks for that, Brad.
- 1:16:24It's time we switch to Are you faster than an interceptor?
- 1:16:29Nailed it.
- 1:16:44You might have an advantage.
- 1:16:46Just a slight advantage right now.
- 1:16:48'cause GM is donating cars to the Secret Service so they can learn
- 1:16:53how to drive manual transmission.
- 1:16:55Well, the secret's out.
- 1:16:56Secret's out, but they're doing it in Cadillac, CT Black Wings
- 1:17:01till they get a handle on that.
- 1:17:02You might outrun 'em even in that, Hugo that we talked about
- 1:17:05earlier, but not for long.
- 1:17:07Can I join the Secret Service just to drive the Black Wing
- 1:17:10and then quit immediately after?
- 1:17:12Can I be a secret service trainer?
- 1:17:14That's a cool job.
- 1:17:15I want to be their de instructor.
- 1:17:17Yeah, Tanya.
- 1:17:17We did that Cadillac special event at VIR that one year.
- 1:17:20Remember that?
- 1:17:21Yeah, I remember that.
- 1:17:22She still traumatized all the hearse pers.
- 1:17:26Yeah.
- 1:17:26There was too many hearse pers You didn't like all them hearse pers
- 1:17:29Not when I was in the right seat.
- 1:17:31I didn't.
- 1:17:32Appreciate them, especially spinning at the top of rollercoaster, entering
- 1:17:35rollercoaster with you in your student's car coming at us at my door particular.
- 1:17:45But I shall preface this section by most of these have not been curated
- 1:17:48by me, but you will know the one that has been curated by me, of course.
- 1:17:53But I am shocked, and again, maybe it's Big Brother that's listening out there.
- 1:17:57There's so many of these articles that are popping up now about the police
- 1:18:01and traffic and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:18:03So I find them entertaining and you know, Brad put it into universe.
- 1:18:06Are you faster than an interceptor?
- 1:18:08And one of our long, longtime fans of the show, Mark Hewitt wrote
- 1:18:12this month, Brad, he reached out.
- 1:18:13Oh, oh my god, mark is alive.
- 1:18:16What's going on?
- 1:18:16Mark?
- 1:18:17He sent us an article.
- 1:18:18About how the state of Virginia, your new home state, will use technology
- 1:18:23to slow those chronic speeders and other states are rushing to join in.
- 1:18:28Haven't we talked about this?
- 1:18:30Aren't they gonna use those revolutionary items called cameras?
- 1:18:33No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:18:34But they're actually gonna rate limit you.
- 1:18:36Like slow your car down.
- 1:18:37Yes.
- 1:18:39What?
- 1:18:39So your car would have to be chipped, forcing you to put something in the car.
- 1:18:44Yeah.
- 1:18:44They're either gonna flash the ECUs, which again brings up a question of
- 1:18:48whether or not that voids your warranty or the manufacturers on board with that.
- 1:18:52You know, do you have the right to do that?
- 1:18:54Or they'll put in some other device that will basically electronically
- 1:18:57speed limit the car to whatever speed they want it to be, which.
- 1:19:02Realistically, I've said before, with GPS technology, with an ev, they'll
- 1:19:07be able to do this in the near future.
- 1:19:09Well, not even an ev any, the new modern cars that have the built-in
- 1:19:12GPS systems, they can easily do it with all the infotainment system.
- 1:19:17If it's 45, it's 45, and if you slam that pedal to the floor, it's gonna do 45.
- 1:19:22So they haven't set exactly what the speed is going to be for stuff like this.
- 1:19:27Because here's the problem, do you set it to the state maximum, which might
- 1:19:31be 55, but on some roads it's 65.
- 1:19:34And in other places in Southern Virginia it's 70, or do you make it 70?
- 1:19:38And now these people can still go 70 anywhere they want
- 1:19:42when the speed limit's 55.
- 1:19:43So they're still speeding.
- 1:19:44So there's a problem with this scenario.
- 1:19:46Well, they started talking about super speeders and super speeders, someone going
- 1:19:51more than 20 miles an hour over the limit.
- 1:19:53Then they go on to talk about all the people doing over a hundred miles an hour.
- 1:19:56And I'm like, okay, well those are very two different things.
- 1:19:59Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:59Well it's 20 miles an hour over what and where a 20 mile school
- 1:20:04zone and you're gonna blast through there at 60 miles an hour.
- 1:20:06Probably not a great thing, a stupid 35 mile an hour limited back country
- 1:20:12road through farmland where there's nothing but grass on either side of you.
- 1:20:16If you did 55 and it's straight and flat and you can see it's not the same thing.
- 1:20:21Now going through there at a buck 20, probably not a good idea at all.
- 1:20:25But this is tricky.
- 1:20:27There's so much gray area and it goes back to previous conversation of the
- 1:20:31speed limits are still ancient in a sense.
- 1:20:33They're based off of corvets going down the road that couldn't keep
- 1:20:36it in the lane and crap like that.
- 1:20:38And with modern braking and all this stuff, and even all the stupid nannies.
- 1:20:42In the cars, some of the speed limits should actually be higher.
- 1:20:46Yeah, like 20 over a speed limit actually might not be beyond the
- 1:20:50capability of the road and the car on it.
- 1:20:53This is again, a slippery slope.
- 1:20:55Why is Virginia getting away from their old tried and
- 1:20:57true throwing people in jail?
- 1:20:59That takes too much time and there's too much crowding?
- 1:21:01Probably.
- 1:21:02Probably.
- 1:21:02But that's okay.
- 1:21:03Because the state of Florida has proven that speed cameras are
- 1:21:06effective in the great capital city of Tallahassee, they are earning $318,000.
- 1:21:13I'm gonna say that again.
- 1:21:14$318,000 a month.
- 1:21:17From their speed cameras and they want more.
- 1:21:20They plan to install 23 more cameras thinking they can
- 1:21:23generate 18.6 million annually.
- 1:21:27That's some good numbers.
- 1:21:28Can I own speed cameras?
- 1:21:30Like people own vending machines, can franchise speed cameras?
- 1:21:34Can I franchise some speed cameras and just set 'em up at random locations?
- 1:21:38Yeah, I'll just take a percentage of that.
- 1:21:40I, you know, I don't even, 1% of 18.6 million.
- 1:21:43That's not bad.
- 1:21:44Yeah, every day.
- 1:21:45Uh, I will say 10%.
- 1:21:46Perfect.
- 1:21:47You can keep the 90.
- 1:21:48I don't care.
- 1:21:48Just gimme 10%.
- 1:21:49But that's okay.
- 1:21:50As we know, and the DMV over 50% of the cameras don't work because we
- 1:21:54don't have the funding to keep 'em going and they're all broken, you would
- 1:21:56think that they would fund themselves.
- 1:21:58Again, it's like tariffs.
- 1:21:59We don't know where the money is going.
- 1:22:01Hashtag corruption.
- 1:22:03So the great state of Washington not to accused with the city of Washington,
- 1:22:06DC also has speed cameras all over cities like Seattle and whatnot.
- 1:22:11In recent times, more than 8,000 drivers in the state of Washington
- 1:22:14have received speeding notices.
- 1:22:16In the mail, but they're not being fined.
- 1:22:19That's a very west coast thing.
- 1:22:21Well, no, I think it's 'cause they're new.
- 1:22:23So there's a, like, there's a grace period like warning you, Hey,
- 1:22:27you would've gotten a ticket and this is going to go into effect.
- 1:22:30Hey, hey, hey.
- 1:22:31I saw you.
- 1:22:33You better slow down Mr. Well, according to the article, they actually
- 1:22:39break out what the fines would be.
- 1:22:41And all that.
- 1:22:42And so again, it gets into this conversation about many people
- 1:22:45are like, Hey, you run through one of those cameras on the highway,
- 1:22:49you pay the fine, who cares?
- 1:22:51You don't get any points because they can't validate who
- 1:22:53is actually driving the car.
- 1:22:53It could be anybody.
- 1:22:54It could be a rental for all that matters until we get the forward
- 1:22:57facing stuff that we talked about on a couple drive throughs to go.
- 1:23:00But I just think it's, to your point, Brad, it's so West Coast, it's so polite.
- 1:23:03Like, I'm gonna send you a letter.
- 1:23:05Do they include like a donation envelope like you do at church?
- 1:23:09It's like if you would like to donate to the cause so that we can continue
- 1:23:16to mail you letters about how fast you were driving and how bad of a sinner
- 1:23:21you are, please, please just send us a check for $5 and absolve your sins and
- 1:23:28the next time they send you the little address labels with your name on it.
- 1:23:32Very Salvation Army.
- 1:23:34Oh my God.
- 1:23:35Yes.
- 1:23:35Please accept these labels as our generosity.
- 1:23:39Welcome to the neighborhood.
- 1:23:40Thank you so much for being a kind human and only speeding.
- 1:23:4310 over the speed limit and not 50.
- 1:23:46Well, in, in talking about that.
- 1:23:48Well, before we move on, I just wanna say I was in Maryland a couple months
- 1:23:51ago and I blew through a speed camera.
- 1:23:54I was doing like 60 and a 30.
- 1:23:57Oh, well it's on, um, New Hampshire Avenue six 50.
- 1:24:00Yeah.
- 1:24:01Down there in the very rural part of Montgomery County.
- 1:24:03But I knew the camera was there.
- 1:24:05They keep moving the camera, like different locations and I thought I had
- 1:24:08already passed it and apparently I didn't.
- 1:24:10So I never got a ticket.
- 1:24:11I mean, this was a couple months ago.
- 1:24:13I never got anything.
- 1:24:15Nothing has happened.
- 1:24:16Could still show up.
- 1:24:17Or sometimes they're off.
- 1:24:19So you might have lucked out.
- 1:24:20Yeah.
- 1:24:20No, no.
- 1:24:20It was, it was on, I saw the flash and I was like, well, I'm done, but I don't
- 1:24:24care 'cause I don't live here, so bye-bye.
- 1:24:26Send me my a hundred dollars ticket and I will pay it.
- 1:24:29My little church donation and I'll talk to you all later.
- 1:24:32I kept on going.
- 1:24:33I floored it to like 70 or 80 after that.
- 1:24:35I was like, well, shit, I'm already getting a ticket.
- 1:24:37Who cares?
- 1:24:37Now it's the next camera's 10 feet down that you know.
- 1:24:40Yeah.
- 1:24:41Well, speaking of feed limits and whatnot, North Dakota is the next state to raise
- 1:24:47its interstate limit to 80 miles an hour.
- 1:24:51They could lose it to a hundred.
- 1:24:52There's a population of a thousand in the whole state, and this is
- 1:24:55the hot news over on the drive.
- 1:24:58Thanks for that.
- 1:24:59They're just raising at five miles an hour.
- 1:25:00It's already 75.
- 1:25:01What do people do on those roads when they're by themselves?
- 1:25:05Do they just do like a hundred or do you do 80?
- 1:25:07Like is 80 fast enough at that point because you're so bored,
- 1:25:10it should just be infinite.
- 1:25:11I've always felt that iregardless of whatever the speed limit is.
- 1:25:15People are gonna go the speed that they're comfortable going.
- 1:25:18True.
- 1:25:18So on like a back road or something, the speed limit could be 45.
- 1:25:23I'm comfortable doing 50 55 on that road, so I'm gonna do 50, 55 on a highway.
- 1:25:29You know, I don't need to go anymore than 70, 75 miles an hour, especially
- 1:25:34on like a road trip or something.
- 1:25:35I just set the cruise control and go.
- 1:25:37So I think most people are just gonna go whatever speed they're comfortable
- 1:25:41going, regardless of whatever the speed limit is, comfortable and capable.
- 1:25:44When you're locked in at 72 miles an hour and somebody blows by you and they're.
- 1:25:50Up your butt doing 90, 95.
- 1:25:52And it's like, guys, the speed limit's 55 or 60, we're already going well over.
- 1:25:57You're doing double or what, you know, you're trying to do double.
- 1:25:59Are you in that much of a hurry?
- 1:26:01Well, see, that's the thing.
- 1:26:02When you're driving in New Jersey, you know there the, the speed limit signs
- 1:26:06all have an invisible one in front of the number that you, that you can't.
- 1:26:11So they've got special glasses that they wear.
- 1:26:13Oh, got it.
- 1:26:14With the Jersey vision.
- 1:26:15And whenever you see a jersey plate, you know that they operate
- 1:26:18from a different law system.
- 1:26:19Well, meanwhile, in California, it was a bad day at CarMax, California.
- 1:26:25No Santa Party.
- 1:26:26Did you guys see this?
- 1:26:28Dude who apparently was super unhappy with his appraisal on his Subaru Outback.
- 1:26:33This person should be thrown in jail and that's it.
- 1:26:36No, he should be thrown in a mental hospital.
- 1:26:39Probably has some sort of Yes.
- 1:26:42Mental instability.
- 1:26:43Because what rational, sane person goes, oh, I don't like this.
- 1:26:47Hmm.
- 1:26:48The next logical course of action is for me to drive my car through
- 1:26:51a CarMax and wreck everything.
- 1:26:54That really helped the appraisal value of this car.
- 1:26:56Right?
- 1:26:57That's what I was thinking too.
- 1:26:58I'm like, where's the logic in this?
- 1:27:00There was none.
- 1:27:01That's the problem.
- 1:27:02Nobody, nobody has any logic.
- 1:27:04He trashed that car.
- 1:27:05He trashed the CarMax too.
- 1:27:07Not only is his own personal insurance.
- 1:27:09Not gonna give him a red scent on this because there's camera footage.
- 1:27:13I'm sure the insurance company's gonna see it.
- 1:27:15So if he was thinking he was gonna get a better value from insurance
- 1:27:18than the appraisal, you're outta luck.
- 1:27:21And now you gotta pay for the damages on this building.
- 1:27:24I think he just had the red mist.
- 1:27:26He was throwing a tantrum like a toddler.
- 1:27:29He did not know what was going on.
- 1:27:31He was completely irrational.
- 1:27:32And at first you think maybe this is one of these staged bs, TikTok
- 1:27:36Instagram videos, but this is real footage because why would you do this?
- 1:27:40Why would you damage a building?
- 1:27:41Why would you damage a business?
- 1:27:42All these people are like running out of the way 'cause they don't want to get hit.
- 1:27:45So it's for real.
- 1:27:47But what got me was, if you go scroll down into the comment section, I love that
- 1:27:52there's a Florida man, Tampa Bay comments.
- 1:27:55My car's not worth that much.
- 1:27:56Oh, I guess I'll just permanently ruin my life and the lives of people around me.
- 1:28:00I was like, Lord man, calling it the way it is.
- 1:28:03All right.
- 1:28:03Now we've saved the best.
- 1:28:05Finally, let's get to real Florida men's story.
- 1:28:07Even though we're not going to Florida, the women of the East Coast right
- 1:28:10now are going through something.
- 1:28:12Apparently last month we had the crazy lady in Virginia who got on
- 1:28:15the other person's car in a road rage incident, ripped the windshield
- 1:28:18wipers off that poor woman's car.
- 1:28:20Well, this time in Pennsylvania, this woman in her road rage, rage
- 1:28:25got out of her car and took a deuce on the hood of the other persons.
- 1:28:29I'm sorry.
- 1:28:29I have to excuse myself, ladies and gentlemen, listeners, Eric
- 1:28:34is dying in the back right now.
- 1:28:39I love the little disclaimer.
- 1:28:41You can view the original video, but warning.
- 1:28:44The video is graphic and could disturb some viewers.
- 1:28:48They've censored it out though, so you don't get to see.
- 1:28:50No, you don't get to see how healthy Oh no.
- 1:28:53I was looking for the two girls.
- 1:28:54One cup.
- 1:28:55Damn.
- 1:28:56Oh, no, no, no.
- 1:28:59You're telling me there's video footage of this?
- 1:29:01Somebody videoed it.
- 1:29:02Yes, they videoed it, but they censored it.
- 1:29:06My God.
- 1:29:06They say defecate so many times.
- 1:29:08It's almost a drinking game.
- 1:29:11This is insane.
- 1:29:13They don't really show it.
- 1:29:14That sucks.
- 1:29:15The shite grin, this woman has.
- 1:29:18Oh my God.
- 1:29:21I love the tagline.
- 1:29:23Crappy situation.
- 1:29:31What compels people?
- 1:29:33Is it drugs?
- 1:29:34Probably.
- 1:29:36Karen was so mad the video was shot by a 17-year-old named Greg said he was
- 1:29:41driving to his friend's house when he saw two women in a confrontation and pulled
- 1:29:45out his phone and started recording.
- 1:29:46So he's like, oh look, cat fight.
- 1:29:47It's like, that's not the cat fight I envisioned, that's
- 1:29:50not what American Pie told me.
- 1:29:52That is unreal.
- 1:29:54Hold on, I'm not done yet because apparently.
- 1:29:57The suspect goes by the last name shithead on her Facebook, believe
- 1:30:05it or not, allegedly is an only, well maybe you can't believe it.
- 1:30:09She's an OnlyFans model.
- 1:30:11Oh, that's some dark stuff right there.
- 1:30:17But she has more subscribers than we do now.
- 1:30:19You have to wonder, was it a stunt?
- 1:30:21Yes, a hundred percent.
- 1:30:22It had to have been, had to have been for her OnlyFans page.
- 1:30:25Except she got caught.
- 1:30:26Well, she got arrested and I got a bunch of charges against her, so I
- 1:30:30don't know how good of a stunt that is.
- 1:30:32Lewd act in front of a minor.
- 1:30:34'cause the guy filmed at 17.
- 1:30:36He is not an adult yet.
- 1:30:37That's true.
- 1:30:38That's what they'll get her on an idiot.
- 1:30:40Well, public defecation is illegal too.
- 1:30:43It depends on the state.
- 1:30:44I don't know what Pennsylvania law is.
- 1:30:46They can ride motorcycles with no helmets.
- 1:30:47I'm pretty sure they, they can, they can dump out in the sidewalk public.
- 1:30:52Yes, those laws are related.
- 1:30:54Same, same, but different.
- 1:30:55The no helmet laws in Pennsylvania do boggle.
- 1:30:58My mind when I was coming back from the Glen, you spend a lot of time in pa
- 1:31:02and there was a guy running alongside me or running past me, and I'm like,
- 1:31:06dude, you're doing like 85, 90 mile an hour, like weaving through people on
- 1:31:11your big old Harley with no helmet on.
- 1:31:12I was like.
- 1:31:13You're an organ donor, I guess.
- 1:31:15'cause I mean, I don't get it.
- 1:31:16It's not even that.
- 1:31:18That would be my first concern.
- 1:31:21Getting hit by a bug.
- 1:31:22Yeah.
- 1:31:23And I have had that happen through the open window of the car that hurts.
- 1:31:28Now imagine a rock.
- 1:31:30You could go blind.
- 1:31:31That's why they wear those bit viper sunglasses, you know?
- 1:31:34Ah, whatever.
- 1:31:35People are dumb Darwinism.
- 1:31:37Pennsylvania's just like letting that work itself out.
- 1:31:40Well, and it's like, okay, the law's the law, but you could still wear the helmet.
- 1:31:44Yeah.
- 1:31:45That's the smart thing to do.
- 1:31:46All right, folks.
- 1:31:47Well, it's time we go behind the pit wall sports news.
- 1:31:50Well, the first up is we have to report sad news.
- 1:31:54The passing of the legendary or celebrated engine builder.
- 1:31:59Ed Pink, who died at the age of 94.
- 1:32:02He's known for many v eights motors in nascar, Canam, IndyCar, drag racing.
- 1:32:10He pretty much, I think, was the guru of these motors.
- 1:32:14He even consulted on with singer tuning flat sixes and Porsche, I think
- 1:32:18they said his last build was a couple months before he even died, like.
- 1:32:23Just doing it like croaked basically, I guess the motor sports world has lost
- 1:32:28legend there because we are still in time.
- 1:32:31I wanna mention again that Laman is almost here and the A-C-O-U-S-A
- 1:32:36is sponsoring not one, but two viewing parties over LAMA weekend.
- 1:32:40The first one will be hosted in conjunction with the A RCF, the
- 1:32:43Automobile Club of Florida at Sebring International Raceway.
- 1:32:47That's a start to dark event, just like last year's viewing party at M1 Concourse.
- 1:32:51And you'll also be able to sign up to do hot laps of Sebring
- 1:32:55International while you're there.
- 1:32:56So that's an added bonus to that event.
- 1:32:58And the second, A-C-O-U-S-A viewing party is held in conjunction with our
- 1:33:02friends at the Simone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia, and that's a full 24 hour
- 1:33:07event with camping around the clock, demos of lamont's vehicles, all sorts of stuff.
- 1:33:11Details on that event are in our show notes.
- 1:33:14And guess what guys?
- 1:33:16We just got added to the playbill.
- 1:33:18I am gonna be doing a live.
- 1:33:20Evening with a legend from the Simione Museum at 7:00
- 1:33:24PM on Saturday night of Lama.
- 1:33:26So tune in for that.
- 1:33:27There will be a live streaming option and we'll make that available
- 1:33:30to you guys as soon as we have it.
- 1:33:32Do we get to know in advance who it is or is it a surprise As long as nobody
- 1:33:35cancels, it's gonna be Harley k Clarkston.
- 1:33:38Izzy would say, who's that?
- 1:33:39Steve.
- 1:33:41He is member number one, the Club de Pilt.
- 1:33:44He's actually the owner operator of the Mirage Racing team.
- 1:33:49He took over in the mid 1970s and bringing many, many wins to mirage and golf racing
- 1:33:55through the middle and late seventies, and then carrying on much, much later.
- 1:33:59So, very interesting guy.
- 1:34:01I've talked to him before.
- 1:34:02I'm really looking forward to interviewing him there.
- 1:34:04Live in front of an audience at the A CO viewing party.
- 1:34:07Do we wanna mention IndyCar predictions for the Indy 500?
- 1:34:11Sure.
- 1:34:12What you got?
- 1:34:12Uh, well, I gotta go with willpower.
- 1:34:15SSVG running IndyCar.
- 1:34:17That tells you how much I know.
- 1:34:18I actually don't know who's burning.
- 1:34:19I, I think there are a couple female drivers, I don't know, but not of a man.
- 1:34:23What, what's her, I can't remember her name.
- 1:34:24All I've heard about indie cars so far is all this drama about Penske
- 1:34:29and the cheater parts, and they got disqualified and people got fired or
- 1:34:33they got moved to the back of the pa.
- 1:34:34It was like all this drama and I don't really know what it was all about.
- 1:34:36You know, we cover Indie 500 month, right?
- 1:34:39Because it still takes a month.
- 1:34:40There's all this qualifying and all this testing.
- 1:34:42They qualify like a week ahead of time and all this other stuff.
- 1:34:45Yeah, there's so much stuff going on that you kind of lose track because
- 1:34:49it takes forever to get to the race and a lot of things happen in between.
- 1:34:53So I'm not saying that I'm toning it out, but I have dedicated my life to formula.
- 1:34:57Uh.
- 1:35:00Isn't a rookie sitting on pole Pretty 500.
- 1:35:03Yes.
- 1:35:03I don't know.
- 1:35:03I bring it up.
- 1:35:04I did exactly zero research.
- 1:35:06I just know that it's this weekend and I'm probably gonna watch it a a little
- 1:35:09bit of it with my host on Sunday.
- 1:35:11So a typical Brad fashion.
- 1:35:13Yeah.
- 1:35:13Watch that Or watch the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
- 1:35:16Both.
- 1:35:17They're on different times.
- 1:35:18No, you get to choose one.
- 1:35:21He's torn.
- 1:35:22Apparently the Monte Carlo Grand Prix is Monaco, correct?
- 1:35:25I am I just being an idiot?
- 1:35:27Yes.
- 1:35:27Okay.
- 1:35:27Yeah.
- 1:35:28I've never heard it called the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
- 1:35:30It's in Monte Carlo idea.
- 1:35:32I don't know.
- 1:35:34I would watch Monaco a thousand percent.
- 1:35:36Okay.
- 1:35:36Fun fact, my wife and her family went to the Monaco F1 race about 10 years ago.
- 1:35:41Wow.
- 1:35:42Her dad's a big F1 fan and they went to Monaco for the race.
- 1:35:45Wow.
- 1:35:45Look at that.
- 1:35:47Well, since you've ushered us into formula, uh,
- 1:36:00predictions for Mona, it is a snooze fest.
- 1:36:03Yeah, it's a procession.
- 1:36:04Sounds like it might rain during qualifying.
- 1:36:07There's a slight chance, but looks like there's sun during
- 1:36:10the race, so there you have it.
- 1:36:12No.
- 1:36:13Yeah, wherever they qualify is where they finish, unless somebody
- 1:36:15wrecks and that's pretty much that.
- 1:36:16Or Ocon tries to take 'em all out again.
- 1:36:19One or the other.
- 1:36:20I'm gonna predict Lance stroll is not gonna win.
- 1:36:24I was gonna say.
- 1:36:29Hold on.
- 1:36:29I'm gonna do the Great Carac for a minute.
- 1:36:31And Louis Hamilton, eighth place?
- 1:36:34No, I think Louis Hamilton's gonna get sixth place, please.
- 1:36:37I think Alonzo's gonna win.
- 1:36:39No Alonzo's too busy just being a jerk.
- 1:36:42Like does he want everybody to hate him?
- 1:36:44I read these articles about Alonzo and he is just like, I don't get it.
- 1:36:48Like if you're done with Formula One, retire, he's not done.
- 1:36:52He's not done with this.
- 1:36:53Oh, is that what it is?
- 1:36:55Yeah.
- 1:36:55He's not done with the money.
- 1:36:56The Benjamins.
- 1:36:57No, of course not.
- 1:36:57Okay.
- 1:36:58Okay.
- 1:36:58God.
- 1:36:59He drives me nuts though.
- 1:37:00He's got such a chip on his shoulder and I was hopeful there because
- 1:37:03the Mila race last weekend was one of the most exciting races we've
- 1:37:07seen so far, at least to a point.
- 1:37:09And it was like, oh look, Alonzo, he's up near the front and then it was
- 1:37:13like boom, garbage back of the pack.
- 1:37:17I realized he is there to tow Lance stroll around.
- 1:37:22He is paid to be in front of Lance.
- 1:37:25And just do lead follow while a race is happening.
- 1:37:27It's like a de it's ridiculous.
- 1:37:29It's not a bad gig, I guess.
- 1:37:31Yeah, dude, I would be so pissed.
- 1:37:34Depends on much money he is getting.
- 1:37:36Go do something else.
- 1:37:37Go race, WEC or imsa.
- 1:37:39But what, what else does he have to prove?
- 1:37:41He's won Lama, hasn't he won an F1 championship?
- 1:37:44Yeah, a couple of them.
- 1:37:45So what else does he have to prove?
- 1:37:47Who gives a shit what you think?
- 1:37:48Fine.
- 1:37:48Did he win Indy as well?
- 1:37:49No, he, his car broke down.
- 1:37:51Ah, okay.
- 1:37:52So he doesn't have to triple crown.
- 1:37:53He was, he was in the Hondas.
- 1:37:53That kept breaking down, I think.
- 1:37:55Well then he should go do like the Berg ring 24 or something different.
- 1:37:58I think he's gonna go do whatever the hell he wants and he doesn't care
- 1:38:01when any of us think he's got his money, he's got his championships
- 1:38:04in two different motor sports.
- 1:38:06He's fine.
- 1:38:07Go run to car, go Valentino Rossi and go to motorcycles.
- 1:38:11Go the other way.
- 1:38:12I'm not sure that transition works as well.
- 1:38:15Uh, it, it, it does not, it is a very different discipline.
- 1:38:18That's when, uh, like Hockman went to go do rally and he is apparently the only
- 1:38:22finished person without rally jeans in his DNA and he was absolutely terrible at it.
- 1:38:27Does he have NASCAR jeans instead?
- 1:38:29Oh, like gimme, yeah.
- 1:38:31No, no, no, no.
- 1:38:33Alright, so continuing the saga of the Tizi and Ferrari and Lewis and
- 1:38:38all this happy horse hockey Miami.
- 1:38:42Is a terrible track.
- 1:38:43It's a terrible event.
- 1:38:44Yeah, boy, it's a waste of time.
- 1:38:46Terrible track.
- 1:38:47It sucks.
- 1:38:48But there was a moment of just absolute radio glory.
- 1:38:52It's the funniest thing.
- 1:38:54So Tanya, do you remember it was like after all the rain debacle and weather, it
- 1:38:58was gonna rain, whether it was gonna rain, there was all that stuff at the beginning.
- 1:39:00So it was a little bit exciting.
- 1:39:02And then once there was no more call for rain, it got super boring and
- 1:39:05everybody just kind of fell into place.
- 1:39:07Much like with some of the other tracks.
- 1:39:09There was that moment though, where Lewis is fighting with LeClaire over the radio
- 1:39:14because one is arguing that the other one is holding them up and the team orders
- 1:39:18And the team wasn't giving him the, give him the point by let him through, right?
- 1:39:21Yes.
- 1:39:21So Brad, did you see this race?
- 1:39:23No, but I think I saw clips of what you're talking about.
- 1:39:26So Le Claire at some point is like, all right, give me back the position,
- 1:39:30blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:39:31So he is gotta let Le Claire through.
- 1:39:33And Hamilton didn't really want to.
- 1:39:35Although he made a big stink about having better tires and he really didn't gain
- 1:39:39anything by being in front of Le Claire.
- 1:39:42It's like, because the Ferrari's are like, I don't know, they're just dog shit.
- 1:39:45They must be four cylinders while everybody else is six because they
- 1:39:47can't get out of their own way.
- 1:39:49To that end, he lets Le Claire through, and then his engineers like
- 1:39:53on the radio and he is like signs, 1.6 signs, one point whatever.
- 1:39:56Signs, signs, signs, like signs is behind him.
- 1:39:59And then Lewis is like, do you want me to let him through too?
- 1:40:02And I just died.
- 1:40:03That is the funniest thing I've heard in Formula One in like forever Apparently it
- 1:40:10like went over like a lead balloon, right?
- 1:40:12As it should.
- 1:40:13But I was like, I was not expecting that from Hamilton for him to like sort
- 1:40:17of bite back and be like, Hey you, why don't we let me let signs pass too?
- 1:40:20He's very frustrated.
- 1:40:21Was this the same race where he said that it like, just, just go
- 1:40:25have a tea or something like that?
- 1:40:27Yes.
- 1:40:27Yeah.
- 1:40:27That was later because he is like, the strategy was complete bunk and he's like,
- 1:40:31these guys don't know what they're doing.
- 1:40:33And it was just, it's an absolute mess and obviously he's comparing them to
- 1:40:36many years of being with Mercedes.
- 1:40:39That race in Miami was, it was boring.
- 1:40:41The second half was whatever.
- 1:40:42Other than that, it was.
- 1:40:43Yeah, it was boring.
- 1:40:44It seems like over the last couple years, Ferrari has just not been able
- 1:40:48to figure out a strategy that works.
- 1:40:50So why did he go to Ferrari?
- 1:40:52It was stupid.
- 1:40:53Uh oh.
- 1:40:54It's about that.
- 1:40:55It's about that again, it's about the tariffs.
- 1:40:57I got it again.
- 1:40:58How many championships does he have?
- 1:41:00What does he actually have to prove?
- 1:41:02I don't care what he says in public facing.
- 1:41:04Yeah, but what does he actually have to prove?
- 1:41:06Absolutely not a God thing.
- 1:41:07It's collect the paycheck.
- 1:41:08Yes, exactly.
- 1:41:09Like I've been saying.
- 1:41:10So Emila the, uh, Emelia Romania Grand Prix.
- 1:41:13That was a good race.
- 1:41:14That was exciting.
- 1:41:15Lots of interesting stuff's happening.
- 1:41:17Suddenly the Red Bull is fast again.
- 1:41:19The McLaren's, you know, they want to take each other out.
- 1:41:21I think Lando is kind of playing dirty.
- 1:41:23I don't just let Ptri do his thing.
- 1:41:26He's faster than you get out of the way.
- 1:41:28It's all these games there too.
- 1:41:30But I think Le Claire.
- 1:41:31You really got to see some of his true colors come through at that race.
- 1:41:36He got angry and he was driving in anger and I think it was hilarious.
- 1:41:41And there was that moment there on the radio too where he's like,
- 1:41:43is this what racing has become?
- 1:41:45Right?
- 1:41:46Where it's all BS team politics and they can't just race anymore because
- 1:41:50we have to go to Plan Delta, we have to go to plan this and that,
- 1:41:54blah blah, blah and all this shit.
- 1:41:55It's like, just let 'em drive.
- 1:41:56Just let them drive.
- 1:41:58Stop screwing around with tires and pit stop nonsense.
- 1:42:02Build a better mouse trap.
- 1:42:03Go out and race the hell out of 'em.
- 1:42:04And let's see who wins.
- 1:42:06But Tanya, you kept talking about turbo mushrooms during that race.
- 1:42:09The Ferrari cars have a problem and it'll be interesting.
- 1:42:13Whatever that problem is, is ever unearthed because they are
- 1:42:17incredibly slow and sluggish.
- 1:42:20They barely can pass each other.
- 1:42:22They can't keep up with the fricking Williams, with DRS wide open.
- 1:42:26They can't make a pass.
- 1:42:27Everything is super slow.
- 1:42:29But then there's moments where it's like he got the turbo mushroom in Mario Kart,
- 1:42:34and suddenly like he's raking people in and like the lap times are coming down
- 1:42:38and it's like, holy crap, here we go.
- 1:42:40Let's go.
- 1:42:41And then suddenly it's like, do.
- 1:42:44And the mushroom ran out and is back to being turd.
- 1:42:47They can't get it out its own way and accelerate like what is wrong?
- 1:42:51That, or the geral wore off one or the other.
- 1:42:53Even LA Clare's car is the same thing.
- 1:42:56Yeah.
- 1:42:56Personally, watching some of that video of the Incar when they're running for
- 1:43:00top speed, even with DRS open, they're like an eighth gear foot to the floor
- 1:43:05and the thing just hangs there at like 6,000 RPM in the wrong part of the
- 1:43:10rev range and it just, it won't pull.
- 1:43:13And I turned to Tanya as we were watching.
- 1:43:15I said, I think the Ferrari needs to redesign their transmission.
- 1:43:18I think the gearing is wrong.
- 1:43:20And that's keeping those cars behind.
- 1:43:22If they could shorten up their gear pack a little bit, six, seven, and
- 1:43:25eighth gear, maybe they could get back some of the speed that they're missing.
- 1:43:28But if you're sitting there in eighth gear.
- 1:43:31At 6,000 RRP M doing 190 miles an hour and it won't pull, what is it geared for?
- 1:43:36300? Like, it doesn't make any sense.
- 1:43:38Those stupid engines turn like 14,000 RPM.
- 1:43:41You're barely in the power zone at that point.
- 1:43:44You might as well just leave it in seventh at that point, you know?
- 1:43:47So I, I think they're gearing is maybe what's killing them.
- 1:43:49And then we're gonna hear excuses about the floor design and this and that.
- 1:43:53And the wing here.
- 1:43:54And the wing there.
- 1:43:54I think it's the transmission.
- 1:43:55I think that's the achilles heel of the Ferrari.
- 1:43:58And we heard Hamilton, I think it was even in the last race, keeps
- 1:44:02complaining about the brakes.
- 1:44:03The brakes are very different.
- 1:44:05The design is different than what he is used to from Mercedes.
- 1:44:08He mentioned before that he's never had to engine break one of the cars before.
- 1:44:12And he's having to learn how to do that here and it's okay.
- 1:44:15So maybe one to chalk it up to he is progressing the violin,
- 1:44:20singing a song, complaining.
- 1:44:21But at this last race.
- 1:44:23LeClaire through qualifying in like practice was bemoaning the brakes.
- 1:44:29Like, my God, my God, my God.
- 1:44:31Apparently they were like behaving.
- 1:44:33So I don't know what their technology or their brakes is,
- 1:44:35but it would, they're electric.
- 1:44:36They would behave one way in a certain time and then suddenly they were
- 1:44:39behaving differently at another time.
- 1:44:41And it's like if your brakes don't work, if they're not carrying the right speed
- 1:44:44or decreasing the speed in the zones and, and having the right power to come
- 1:44:48out, and if they have a sluggish motor, the transmission's not geared correctly.
- 1:44:52I mean, they're losing time everywhere.
- 1:44:54Yeah.
- 1:44:55They can't get outta their own way.
- 1:44:56It's horrible.
- 1:44:57I mean, LA Clara's not a bad driver.
- 1:44:59He's fighting and we could say the Louis Hamilton's not a bad driver either, right?
- 1:45:04And he's doing crap.
- 1:45:05But then you see that them when they're side by side with the other cars and it's
- 1:45:09like the disparity is kind of evident.
- 1:45:12They are not competitive against the Red Bull or the McLaren.
- 1:45:15We'll see how it changes.
- 1:45:17What race number is this, like 10?
- 1:45:19Uh, I don't know that there's been that many, but my prediction
- 1:45:22has held true by the third race.
- 1:45:24He wasn't gonna do any better than where he is at, but if the car is a problem.
- 1:45:28Then it's not fair either, because where are the Mercedes?
- 1:45:31They're at the front doing better.
- 1:45:33Antonelli started like second at Amala.
- 1:45:35It was insane.
- 1:45:37You guys told me the Mercedes is inferior.
- 1:45:39They don't know how to build a car, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:45:41And now they're like kicking butt.
- 1:45:42I don't think anybody said that.
- 1:45:44The Mercedes as last year's season.
- 1:45:47So Mercedes fell off and they were wildly uncompetitive.
- 1:45:51You talk about how, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:52Ferrari can't accelerate and get out of its own way.
- 1:45:55It was pathetic.
- 1:45:56The Mercedes as the season last year, wound down their improvements.
- 1:46:01You could see they were doing better.
- 1:46:03The Mercedes was becoming more competitive.
- 1:46:05So whatever they've done coming into this year, yes they
- 1:46:08have a more competitive car.
- 1:46:09So maybe had he stayed with Mercedes, it'd be a whole other story right
- 1:46:13now because Russell's doing great.
- 1:46:15Antonelli's doing great.
- 1:46:17Guess we'll see.
- 1:46:17Too bad.
- 1:46:18Super disappointed in Ferrari this year, but I'm gonna tough it out.
- 1:46:21I promise you guys we're gonna, we're gonna ride to the end.
- 1:46:24That would've been the last five years as well.
- 1:46:26So I mean.
- 1:46:27And you wonder why I don't watch.
- 1:46:29I'm telling you guys spend a year following IMSA and WEC and you will
- 1:46:34see much better racing than the garbage that Formula One is putting out.
- 1:46:39And now we're gonna bring Mickey Mouse into the equation.
- 1:46:42Now there's partnerships with Disney.
- 1:46:43Once I read that, I was like, thank God this is the only year I can go back to
- 1:46:47watching real racing and not this trash.
- 1:46:49He acts like somebody put a gun to his head doing it for you guys.
- 1:46:53You called me out.
- 1:46:54You said, I didn't know we told you to watch Drive to Survive.
- 1:46:57Yeah.
- 1:46:57You're not a real fan unless you watch Drive to Survive.
- 1:46:59Well, let's correct that.
- 1:47:00Emmy Award-winning drive to Survive.
- 1:47:03Let me puke a little bit.
- 1:47:05Emmy Award-winning.
- 1:47:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:47:07It's like giving yourself your own.
- 1:47:08Yeah.
- 1:47:08It's such garbage.
- 1:47:10Whatever.
- 1:47:10No, thank you.
- 1:47:11There is no reason to watch Drive to Survive if you watch the races.
- 1:47:14I mean, I'm just gonna flat out say that, but you don't get all the drama.
- 1:47:18Ah, you know what's gonna have a bunch of drama in it, this Brad
- 1:47:21Pitt movie, are we gonna go see it?
- 1:47:23I mean, eventually I will see it when it's at the bargain bin.
- 1:47:27Free 99 on your streaming service.
- 1:47:29Preferably, but I, I guess I could spend money on it.
- 1:47:32I think I have a gift card.
- 1:47:34Wow.
- 1:47:35I'll use someone else's money to watch this terrible movie.
- 1:47:37Third one of the night.
- 1:47:39Brad Pitt movie, or completely unrelated, but car adjacent the Paul Walker story.
- 1:47:43Which would you watch?
- 1:47:44I need more information.
- 1:47:46Is it any Brad Pitt movie or the Brad Pitt Formula one
- 1:47:51movie is what I'm referring to.
- 1:47:53So driven two or the Paul Walker story?
- 1:47:56Yeah.
- 1:47:56Yeah.
- 1:47:57Um, I would rather sit there and watch Sesame Street with my kids for two hours.
- 1:48:03Again, you're gonna be able to watch Disney with F1 soon enough.
- 1:48:06So that's the future.
- 1:48:07That's the future.
- 1:48:08That means SPN owned by Disney too.
- 1:48:10So yeah.
- 1:48:11Yeah.
- 1:48:11Wait, is that what the partnership, is that like you'll be able to
- 1:48:13stream Formula One on Disney?
- 1:48:15I haven't read into it.
- 1:48:16All I saw were pictures of Mickey Mouse with a Formula One car
- 1:48:19and I was just like, I'm done.
- 1:48:20I'm out.
- 1:48:21No, I'm not out.
- 1:48:22'cause if you regular streaming Disney Plus, if you've got a
- 1:48:25subscription to it now you can watch Formula One without paying another
- 1:48:28subscription to the F1 channel.
- 1:48:30Can we rename the F1 drivers with cars characters?
- 1:48:34Oh man, that'd be so funny.
- 1:48:35The winner of this year's championship becomes Lightning McQueen.
- 1:48:38Mm. And then we've got the other guys, I don't remember their names.
- 1:48:41Oh, is there gonna be a Pixar Cars?
- 1:48:43But F1, there was an F1 car.
- 1:48:46He was Italian in cars too.
- 1:48:48Yes.
- 1:48:48I just don't see F1 TV giving up the goat to Disney.
- 1:48:52Giving them the rights?
- 1:48:53No, I don't think that's what this is.
- 1:48:55They're trying to appeal to the very younger crowd by like
- 1:48:59partnering to have the mascots.
- 1:49:01But then I would question, do young kids even watch Mickey Mouse?
- 1:49:05Henry likes it.
- 1:49:05It still on.
- 1:49:06Okay.
- 1:49:07Maybe it's the other way.
- 1:49:08Formula One is trying to bring Disney up to its level, not the other way around.
- 1:49:13They gonna move the Miami race to Orlando.
- 1:49:16It'll be on an oval and it'll be run by Indy cars.
- 1:49:20Oh wait, wait.
- 1:49:21They already do that.
- 1:49:22Go 45 minutes east and just run it at Daytona.
- 1:49:25Well, I guess we'll have to report on the developments of this as they
- 1:49:28come to light in the upcoming months.
- 1:49:31Yes.
- 1:49:43Meanwhile, our Motorsports News is brought to us in partnership
- 1:49:46with the International Motor Racing Research Center.
- 1:49:48We just concluded the first center conversation of the year.
