- 0:00Speaker 1: He speaking of Scotland, the birthplace of golf. There was
- 0:04Speaker 1: another golf note that I meant to get to and
- 0:09Speaker 1: did not get a chance to get to when we
- 0:10Speaker 1: were talking last segment. And that's the game. That's the
- 0:14Speaker 1: guy that were always seemingly you correct me if I'm.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Wrong on this.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I know where you're going with this, and you're right.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Always seemingly he's a prodigal son. Yeah, rooting for and
- 0:28Speaker 1: the prodigal son. And yet you know, after the absolutely
- 0:35Speaker 1: fabulous start to his career, he's had no end of
- 0:38Speaker 1: slings and arrows. We speak of course of lifetime Longhorn
- 0:41Speaker 1: Jordan Speeth. He says he doesn't have any pain in
- 0:46Speaker 1: that surgically repaired left wrist that was in late August
- 0:50Speaker 1: when he did that, said the recovery's going to plan.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He went from a I hadn't heard this in golf before,
- 0:57Speaker 1: So you can help me out if I need a
- 0:59Speaker 1: limited did ball count to practice to no restriction? Does
- 1:03Speaker 1: that just mean not taking as many practice swings and
- 1:07Speaker 1: stuff as that?
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yeah, So this sounds like you know, he probably instead
- 1:11Speaker 3: of hitting you know, maybe one hundred and fifty shots
- 1:14Speaker 3: on the range on Monday. Yeah, maybe it was fifty
- 1:16Speaker 3: something like that. So it's a it's an injury that
- 1:19Speaker 3: impacted him last season because a year ago at the
- 1:21Speaker 3: Hero World Challenge he finished second the Scottie Scheffler, and
- 1:25Speaker 3: of course he you know, he's been all right at
- 1:27Speaker 3: and then he comes to Kapalua in Hawaii. I think
- 1:30Speaker 3: he finished second or third, was in the hunt, played
- 1:33Speaker 3: very well at the Waste Management, and it was playing
- 1:37Speaker 3: great at Riviera. It was probably the best start to
- 1:39Speaker 3: a season for him in a couple of years. But
- 1:41Speaker 3: then the injury began to flare up, and there was
- 1:43Speaker 3: a couple of tournaments this past season where he thought
- 1:47Speaker 3: he was going to have to withdraw because the pain
- 1:49Speaker 3: was so substantial and basically he was driving the ball.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It's the best season with him the driver, but anything
- 1:57Speaker 3: where we had to make contact with the ground so
- 1:59Speaker 3: iron shot short game. You noticed. It was one of
- 2:02Speaker 3: the worst seasons in terms of strokes gain, and that's
- 2:04Speaker 3: because you know, mentally and the pain of him making
- 2:06Speaker 3: contact with the ground was not the same ball striker.
- 2:09Speaker 3: So he realized that the last season in the fext
- 2:12Speaker 3: Cup playoffs, like, I got to fix this.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's the only way.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So he oughted for the surgery, and good to hear
- 2:17Speaker 3: he's pain free because that's what was holding him back
- 2:20Speaker 3: to this past season. We'll see, but I feel optimistic.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I feel very optimistic, he said, and here was the quote.
- 2:26Speaker 2: It feels good.
- 2:27Speaker 1: None of the shots, you know, I don't really have
- 2:28Speaker 1: any problems with it, no pain, no nothing. So now
- 2:32Speaker 1: it's kind of just taking care of it, continuing to
- 2:34Speaker 1: do therapy probably through the new year, and just be
- 2:37Speaker 1: prepared to go start playing some golf and be prepared
- 2:39Speaker 1: to play three weeks in a row.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I guess the grind is what you're talking about. He didn't.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He didn't give an indication when he might be back though. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: I didn't say that.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I because usually you know, he would play in Kapalua
- 2:51Speaker 3: and then would come back. He's not a part. He
- 2:53Speaker 3: didn't make the cut to be a part of the
- 2:55Speaker 3: the I don't know what they call it now, the
- 2:57Speaker 3: Sony Open, maybe something different. So I guess is.
- 3:01Speaker 2: You're talking about the one in Hawaii of the area.
- 3:04Speaker 3: It used to be the tournament where the champions would
- 3:06Speaker 3: winning it. Now it's like top fifty in the the
- 3:08Speaker 3: next cup. He's on invite to that because he didn't
- 3:10Speaker 3: finish top fifty or top thirty or whatever. My guess
- 3:13Speaker 3: is his first tournament back will probably be the Waste Management. Okay,
- 3:17Speaker 3: maybe he'll play over the La Kinta over in California.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yep, yep. By the way, who is Colt.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Nast cult Ghost played at SMU, former PJ golfer. Now
- 3:29Speaker 3: he is on the CBS telecast. He is the Dottie
- 3:34Speaker 3: Pepper for CBS Golf, and he hosts a PJ Tour
- 3:37Speaker 3: series x SIM show with I forget who who the
- 3:41Speaker 3: other guy is?
- 3:42Speaker 2: But so that's where he did the interview with Colt Ghost.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Okay, it sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn't remember. I
- 3:49Speaker 1: couldn't place him.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, short white balld guy. He's opposed to you, a
- 3:54Speaker 2: tall white ball guy.
- 3:56Speaker 3: He's a little bit more stocky.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You know. I don't think I'm stocky.
- 3:59Speaker 1: No, No, you're You're properly proportioned. The all right, So
- 4:04Speaker 1: I've heard you mention Kapalua twice.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, thinking about today actually really all.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Right, So you've never played it because you haven't been right, Okay,
- 4:13Speaker 1: So I would say if if you know the Good
- 4:19Speaker 1: Lord smiles down on both of us, and we're still
- 4:21Speaker 1: around and doing our regular jobs. And the long Worn
- 4:24Speaker 1: basketball team goes to Mali next year. Well we should
- 4:27Speaker 1: try to play I've played it. I played it, played me.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I did it with Bill Shooning. That's the time when
- 4:34Speaker 1: we were playing the Plantation course. That's the you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: the the Crenshaw course, and that's the one where you know,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I've got this bad slice and we get we get
- 4:43Speaker 1: up on the thing and it's a down. It's a
- 4:46Speaker 1: dog leg to the left and and so I'm aiming
- 4:51Speaker 1: way left to bend it back and sometimes that works
- 4:53Speaker 1: and sometimes it and I think it came off the
- 4:56Speaker 1: toe or something and searing down it was good distance
- 5:00Speaker 1: on it away slice.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Rice and I just kind of tossed the club sound.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I was like, oh, come on, Ben, and Shony goes Ben,
- 5:08Speaker 1: what are you getting mad at him for?
- 5:09Speaker 2: And I said, well he laid out the course. He
- 5:10Speaker 2: could have put the fairway over there. Said no, he
- 5:12Speaker 2: can't the oceans over there. So uh. But we had
- 5:15Speaker 2: a good time.
- 5:16Speaker 1: We were playing Kapallui. It was it's good. It's it's
- 5:18Speaker 1: a beautiful golf course. There's there's no doubt about it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: All right, we'll be back to wrap up today's program
- 5:23Speaker 1: here else Ports Radio AM thirteen
