- 0:00We've got Keshan Hall to the left, Kevin
- 0:01Overton to the right. We'll start with
- 0:03Ferg.
- 0:04>> For both of y'all, uh second half, y'all
- 0:07almost averaged two points a possession,
- 0:09couldn't really miss. What what what
- 0:10changed for y'all from the first half
- 0:12the second half on offense?
- 0:13>> Um uh I feel like we just stayed
- 0:15consistent to what we doing. We knew
- 0:17they collapsing. So once we got a c
- 0:19couple catch and shoot threes like by
- 0:20this guy right here and a couple guys
- 0:22guys just catch shoot threes and make
- 0:23them fan out to their man. And once they
- 0:25fan out to their man, it's a one-on-one
- 0:27game after that. And once it's one and
- 0:29one, it's kind of hard to stop us.
- 0:33>> Uh yeah, much of the same. Just playing
- 0:36in the flow, shots falling. Um I don't
- 0:38really have too much to repeat. He said
- 0:39everything. So yeah,
- 0:43>> Keshan, uh Coach Miller from Texas said
- 0:45that you're one of the best players in
- 0:47the game of college basketball. What
- 0:48does that kind of praise mean to you
- 0:50from a guy like that?
- 0:51>> We knew that.
- 0:52>> Um you know, coach Coach Miller, he's a
- 0:54great coach. I've been watching him a
- 0:56minute now. So, uh, I really appreciate
- 0:58that for him. That's that's big time. I
- 1:00mean, I'm happy he see it. A lot of
- 1:02people still don't see it. I don't know
- 1:03why, but hey, it is what it is. But we
- 1:05just going to keep I'm not even going to
- 1:07worry about individual stuff. We going
- 1:08to keep trying to win, keep trying to
- 1:10roll. Right now, we we're we're
- 1:11streaking right now. But like I told you
- 1:13guys, and uh at the beginning of the
- 1:15year when we was taking some L's once we
- 1:16get high, just going to get rolling. So,
- 1:18we just got to keep getting better as a
- 1:19team, staying consistent every day.
- 1:20>> Got another one for Keshan back here.
- 1:22You only had three points in the first
- 1:24half. What's your mindset at halftime as
- 1:26an offensive player? You obviously
- 1:28attack on that first drive, you get the
- 1:30bucket to go and then it was kind of
- 1:31bombs away from there. Just your
- 1:33mentality.
- 1:34>> Um, my mentality is not like my my
- 1:37teammates give me confidence, coach give
- 1:38me confidence, but not to be cocky. I
- 1:40feel I'm feel like I'm the best player
- 1:42in college. So, that's my mentality. So,
- 1:44I just come out, keep working, keep
- 1:45going at it. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:47And try to just stay consistent what I
- 1:49do. Like I said, you know what I'm
- 1:50saying? They was taking me away. So, if
- 1:51I they take away, try to get the ball to
- 1:52everybody else. try to move it as much
- 1:54as I can, but like I said, once they go
- 1:55one-on-one, it's a different game.
- 1:57>> So, KO, they started seven to 10 from
- 2:00deep and then went like three of their
- 2:01next 14. I mean, SP was in here talking
- 2:03about how y'all just stuck to your guns
- 2:05on defense. Y'all kind of had that
- 2:06mentality. It was like, all right, if we
- 2:07keep doing our thing, they're they're
- 2:08they're not going to keep hitting these.
- 2:10>> Yeah. Um, I'll probably say I I panicked
- 2:12the most when that started happening.
- 2:14Like, I'm I'm telling guys, hey,
- 2:15[laughter] we we going to just let them
- 2:16go one-on-one or this going to happen.
- 2:18But I thought I think that was the game
- 2:20plan and it worked. Um, we knew just
- 2:23percentage-wise what they shot. So, it
- 2:24wasn't really a huge emphasis to take
- 2:26away those shots because we knew down
- 2:28the stretch they would help us and they
- 2:29did like he said so. So, I had to calm
- 2:31down with that one. Yeah.
- 2:34>> And Kevin, only three turnovers tonight
- 2:36as a team. It's the third straight game
- 2:38where y'all had um less than 10
- 2:40turnovers in a game. Just kind of what's
- 2:42been the key recently to, you know,
- 2:43protecting protecting the basketball in
- 2:45these close games?
- 2:46>> Yeah. Um,
- 2:48I won't give away the recipe. I just say
- 2:49we try not to take bad shots within our
- 2:51offense. Um whether that come whatever
- 2:54time it is, we have pretty much
- 2:56something to back up if we don't have
- 2:58something. So if you don't have
- 2:59something, it's very easy and very
- 3:01quickly to get into something that can
- 3:02still help you when you're on the ball
- 3:04or off the ball. So we just get into
- 3:05those those breakdowns and they help us
- 3:07for sure limit turnovers.
- 3:09>> Keith, Texas is a team that fouls a lot,
- 3:11sends guys to the free throw line. How
- 3:12much you enjoy seeing a match up where
- 3:14you know that know the other team's
- 3:16going to hack? Yeah, I did see that clue
- 3:18what coach Miller said, "Yeah, we have a
- 3:19virus or something. Some filing virus."
- 3:21Uh, so when I seen that, I was happy we
- 3:24was playing them, especially here. So,
- 3:26uh, I mean, you know what I'm saying?
- 3:27That's why I just got to stay in the
- 3:28gym, you know what I'm saying? Make my
- 3:29free throws and just try to lock in cuz
- 3:31I still miss three of them things. Yeah.
- 3:34So, got to just stay locked in. The
- 3:36whole team, we we shot it good. We
- 3:37missed 10, but we still got to the We
- 3:39still shot 29 of them. So, that's that's
- 3:41great for us.
- 3:41>> Yeah. KO, uh, your coach talked about
- 3:45shooting threes and whether they're
- 3:46going in or not going in, as long as
- 3:48you're shooting good ones, he wants you
- 3:49to continue to shoot those shots. What a
- 3:51good threes look like in this offense
- 3:53and for you in particular.
- 3:54>> Um, I think for everybody is just in
- 3:57rhythm shots. I mean, it looks different
- 3:58for every player. Like for example, me
- 4:00and him, whenever he's in rhythm to his
- 4:02shots, those are good shots. Like we
- 4:04just try not to take bad shots where
- 4:06you're going away from the rim or fading
- 4:08away or anything crazy like that. But
- 4:10for me, it's just if I can see the rim
- 4:11off the catch, I think that's my best
- 4:13shot. And then obviously playing off the
- 4:15dribble, just making myself open off the
- 4:17catch, I think is where I can I can
- 4:18affect the game off the three ball. So
- 4:20yeah,
- 4:24>> Keshan, it seemed like at one point you
- 4:26and Dan Swain was going shot for shot.
- 4:28When the game is kind of turned into a
- 4:29one-on-one like that, how much does it
- 4:31go in your favor as a bigger guard?
- 4:33>> Um, I I enjoy, like I said, I enjoy
- 4:36one-on- ones. That's my game. like um
- 4:38come in since a kid. That's what we used
- 4:40to do a lot. Um just play one-on-one
- 4:43basketball, king of the court, things
- 4:44like that. Um Dalen's from Ohio, so I've
- 4:46been knowing him since high school. He's
- 4:48from Columbus, so you know, we got a
- 4:49little history and never played him, but
- 4:51that's that's my guy. He's good people.
- 4:53So, um I enjoyed it, but um just got to
- 4:55lock in a little more on defense. He hit
- 4:57some big shots today we didn't think he
- 4:58was going to hit, but that's what that's
- 5:00the SC report was to make him shoot
- 5:02contested heavy threes, and he he proved
- 5:03us wrong. So, he had a big game today.
- 5:07KO Hod struggling from shooting the ball
- 5:10right now, but still, you know, playing
- 5:12a lot and having positive stuff. How how
- 5:14important is that for y'all? And then
- 5:15how much confidence y'all have that, you
- 5:16know, it's it's it's going to come on
- 5:17eventually for him as a scorer?
- 5:19>> Yeah. Um, [clears throat] I give him all
- 5:21praise. I give him like the utmost
- 5:24respect towards just understanding that
- 5:27he doesn't have a crazy role with this
- 5:29team, especially having a Keshan Hall on
- 5:30your team. There's not a lot of scoring
- 5:32that has to be done. So with him is just
- 5:34understanding that you impacting the
- 5:36game might not be scoring and he's done
- 5:37a tremendous job of controlling our
- 5:39offense, not taking bad shots. And even
- 5:41when he understands that he's not he
- 5:43doesn't have it going, he creates for
- 5:44all of us. And like you said, with zero
- 5:46turnovers today, that's all we can ask
- 5:47for from
- 5:48>> him. Anything else?
