- 0:08Speaker 1: Today is Friday, the thirty first of July. On this
- 0:11Speaker 1: day in seventeen seventy seven, if you are thinking that
- 0:14Speaker 1: you have not achieved enough in your life, you are
- 0:16Speaker 1: probably right, because Marquis de Lafayette was appointed major general
- 0:20Speaker 1: in the French Army at the age of nineteen. So
- 0:24Speaker 1: that's just depressing. But in nineteen twenty eight, on the
- 0:27Speaker 1: thirty first of July, the first ever women's Olympic track
- 0:30Speaker 1: event was contested and won by Elizabeth Robinson of the USA.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And look at us now like that is less than
- 0:38Speaker 1: one hundred years ago, was the very first one, and
- 0:41Speaker 1: now women's sport dominating will Games.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I need to know what the track event was though,
- 0:45Speaker 2: before we moved.
- 0:46Speaker 1: On one hundred meters. Yeah, someone came second from Canada
- 0:50Speaker 1: and her name was Fanny. Anyway, you're on no dribble
- 0:53Speaker 1: strap in now I'm wondering whether that was an appropriate
- 1:12Speaker 1: thing to say.
- 1:12Speaker 3: No, But do you know what I don't know? Of
- 1:14Speaker 3: course it is. It's always inappropriateness is appropriate. Well, you
- 1:18Speaker 3: know the Magic Far Away Tree? You know those books? Yes,
- 1:22Speaker 3: my kids listened to an audio book and when they
- 1:24Speaker 3: first started listening to them, I was a bit confused
- 1:27Speaker 3: because when I was little we listened to well, when
- 1:30Speaker 3: I read the books, the names were Joe Beth and
- 1:33Speaker 3: Fatty and their cousin Dick. And then you listen to
- 1:37Speaker 3: the audio books and that's Joe Beth and Franny and
- 1:39Speaker 3: their cousin Rich. Clearly it's been done for parents like
- 1:44Speaker 3: me who would snigger every time they said Fanny and Dick.
- 1:47Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and the kids too. What it did remind me
- 1:51Speaker 2: of though, have you seen there's a clip on socials
- 1:53Speaker 2: from the UK the Chase the show, and one of
- 1:57Speaker 2: the questions is around the name of a swimmer and it's.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Fanish Smellowish Smell.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And the nicest absolutely lo is it? Oh great?
- 2:10Speaker 1: So hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where
- 2:13Speaker 1: we talk about netball and really so much more. My
- 2:17Speaker 1: name's Carolyn Swindell. I'm I'm Fanish Smellow.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I know I was gonna say, we talk about so
- 2:26Speaker 2: much more. Well, so far it's been funny.
- 2:34Speaker 3: But my best friend's name is Sucker mccox, So there
- 2:37Speaker 3: you go.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It sounds like something you could buy at your local
- 2:43Speaker 1: Golden Archers. No, now we've had a little bit that
- 2:46Speaker 1: we've gone rogue here. We've gone rogue here today because
- 2:51Speaker 1: we're doing everything in a strange order. Catherine, did you
- 2:55Speaker 1: have a little bit of an open mic in commentary?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Obviously I'm ben own to us, but apparently we did
- 3:02Speaker 2: because it was coming up on socials and I believe
- 3:05Speaker 2: some of our dribblers, Liz Ellis, did you hear it?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, of course, it as if I was going to
- 3:10Speaker 3: text you to tell you to stop talking time. I'm
- 3:12Speaker 3: listening to what she was saying.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Because we were, because then you freak out about what
- 3:17Speaker 2: was it that you were saying? What have these people heard?
- 3:19Speaker 3: So do you know what you said?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Because I didn't hear it?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Well, yes, so only because the dribblers heard it. They
- 3:26Speaker 2: put it on our Facebook page. So apparently we were
- 3:28Speaker 2: talking about pronunciations of players, Thank god, because we were
- 3:33Speaker 2: talking about lots of stuff. But it has been a
- 3:35Speaker 2: nice little reminder to watch your p's and q's at
- 3:37Speaker 2: all times.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yes, and miss Elizabeth is Adam Cox your producer?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yes?
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so he obviously has produced it. Well before he
- 3:46Speaker 3: produced back when we used to beround Channel ten or
- 3:51Speaker 3: sometime in that period. I forget, but he's as soon
- 3:55Speaker 3: as I saw that you guys that what you were
- 3:59Speaker 3: saying was coming through. The first thing, I heard his
- 4:01Speaker 3: voice in my head saying, or Mike's alive, Elizabeth, or
- 4:05Speaker 3: Mike's are alive. If he got onto the blur and
- 4:09Speaker 3: said remember ladies, or Mike's arelive.
- 4:11Speaker 2: No, but we did work out what had happened. But
- 4:14Speaker 2: funnily is because when we walked in for the very
- 4:16Speaker 2: first game and I saw him, I was like, two
- 4:18Speaker 2: big cocks are on Judy here. What could possibly go wrong?
- 4:22Speaker 3: This is great?
- 4:24Speaker 2: No, So what we did we did a test. So
- 4:27Speaker 2: we did a test with one of our producers. We
- 4:29Speaker 2: had to turn the mics on and he said, just
- 4:31Speaker 2: chat for three minutes or so, just we want to
- 4:33Speaker 2: make sure everything's And apparently that then was put out
- 4:38Speaker 2: to the masses. But the pronunciations, I can tell you what,
- 4:42Speaker 2: No matter how much you prepare or your study or whatever,
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's the last minute, somebody will say, oh no, it's
- 4:48Speaker 2: said like this. So Olivia cheen for instance, from England,
- 4:54Speaker 2: they sent through the phonetic spelling of it, which was
- 4:58Speaker 2: chene okay, so not gene. But then we asked the
- 5:03Speaker 2: UK commentators, who obviously know her the best, to send
- 5:06Speaker 2: through an audio note they said Sheen, but then we
- 5:10Speaker 2: found a clip of her saying her own name and
- 5:13Speaker 2: she says Cheen, like, so what are you supposed to
- 5:16Speaker 2: do anyway? So Kim and I are having this big
- 5:17Speaker 2: debate and apparently that's what made it onto. So it's
- 5:20Speaker 2: not that riuutine, but it was a nice little reminder
- 5:23Speaker 2: to be very careful when you enter a room where
- 5:25Speaker 2: there's microphones in place. Has that happened to you before, though.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Liz sort of, so many Amedia career has been cut
- 5:32Speaker 3: short by that sort of stuff. One of the things
- 5:37Speaker 3: that had something happened very similar when back in the
- 5:41Speaker 3: an Z Chap days and Kelly Underwood and I used
- 5:44Speaker 3: to do a lot of the commentary together. What we
- 5:46Speaker 3: didn't realize because no one told us, was that when
- 5:49Speaker 3: we were off air, even though we were off air,
- 5:52Speaker 3: like in quartered time breaks and halftime breaks in Australia,
- 5:57Speaker 3: for the first time the feed had been sold internationally,
- 6:00Speaker 3: so you could get us on netball Pass in a
- 6:03Speaker 3: few places around the world that games have been picked up.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But if because we're being streamed on netball Pass, the
- 6:08Speaker 3: whole feed went out right, So everything that we talked
- 6:11Speaker 3: about a quarter time and halftime went out to the
- 6:14Speaker 3: international fiend. Thankfully it was looking at stats, but it
- 6:18Speaker 3: wasn't quite It was nowhere near as polished as what
- 6:21Speaker 3: you would seeing. We'd be like, oh, she's having a
- 6:23Speaker 3: shaker and oh god, that was bad, and what about that?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Like you'd had these conversations and then I took I
- 6:31Speaker 3: was starting to get all these weird messages on social saying, oh,
- 6:34Speaker 3: is that what you think? And I'm like, that's not
- 6:36Speaker 3: what I said in commentary but in the quarter time break.
- 6:40Speaker 3: So anyway, we sort of got that fixed up. But
- 6:42Speaker 3: the closest I've been with someone who and it was
- 6:45Speaker 3: nearly a disaster, was back when I was working for
- 6:48Speaker 3: Channel ten and Luke Darcy and I were commentating together.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So we would do before you do the opening, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 3: you go hello and welcome to sun Corps Super Netball
- 6:57Speaker 3: and it's round four and we're hearing Perth doing the
- 7:00Speaker 3: West Coast Fever blah blah blah. So you always do
- 7:02Speaker 3: your big opening, which Luke would do, and we'd do
- 7:05Speaker 3: the rehearsals, and so during rehearsal we would keep each
- 7:08Speaker 3: other amuse because we're doing three or four games on
- 7:10Speaker 3: a weekend. We keep each other amused by just saying ridiculous,
- 7:15Speaker 3: very unpc silly things, and we would make ourselves laugh.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We'd make the truck laugh, as Catherine knows, always trying
- 7:21Speaker 3: to make the people in the track laugh. And so
- 7:24Speaker 3: we must have been rushed for time or something happened
- 7:26Speaker 3: in this game in Perth or Adelaide and Luke launched
- 7:30Speaker 3: into this spill, and I knew that it was the start.
- 7:34Speaker 3: I knew that we hadn't done the rehearsal, but I
- 7:36Speaker 3: knew this was also live on end. There was something
- 7:38Speaker 3: had happened and we hadn't done the rehearsal, and he
- 7:39Speaker 3: hadn't picked up on that, and so he started and
- 7:43Speaker 3: he started to say things, and I'm holding my microphone
- 7:46Speaker 3: looking at him, trying to give him the shut up,
- 7:50Speaker 3: because usually it was me saying dumb things and him
- 7:52Speaker 3: looking at me, going, that's just ridiculous. And so he
- 7:55Speaker 3: said something really random about cats, and I didn't react,
- 7:59Speaker 3: and so we got to the end of his fruit
- 8:02Speaker 3: of the break and he goes, why don't you laugh,
- 8:04Speaker 3: And I'm like, because we were alive, and look on
- 8:07Speaker 3: his face he was like, oh my well, you could
- 8:11Speaker 3: just and you could see him do the mental checklist
- 8:16Speaker 3: of what did I say? What did I say? What
- 8:17Speaker 3: did I say? And then afterwards he was like, oh
- 8:19Speaker 3: my god, my whole media career flashed in front of
- 8:22Speaker 3: my eyes. And happily he didn't say anything. It was
- 8:23Speaker 3: just that was bad. He just said something that was
- 8:26Speaker 3: really random, and he goes, oh, no, the cat lovers
- 8:28Speaker 3: are going to be after me.
- 8:31Speaker 2: You know, similar happened to me not that long ago
- 8:33Speaker 2: with Clint stand Away, except he knew we had gone live.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I didn't. So this is the opener. He's launched in it,
- 8:39Speaker 2: but he's so chill, so his rehearsal is very similar
- 8:43Speaker 2: to the way he'd do his opener. I didn't know
- 8:45Speaker 2: he'd switched from one to the other, and so, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 2: we were doing the same thing, having a bit of fun.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Next minute he does his thing and then he goes, hey,
- 8:52Speaker 2: what do you think cath like this? And I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 2: we'll talk about it later. Lah la la.
- 8:56Speaker 3: That was live.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And then Bianca fortunately was standing there and she knew
- 9:01Speaker 2: and she picked up and jumped in and then all
- 9:03Speaker 2: of a sudden, I'm like, oh god, I no.
- 9:09Speaker 3: And you sort of and look, I know that I
- 9:12Speaker 3: might have been working with you during the hub. I
- 9:15Speaker 3: was we were doing the big opening to a game
- 9:17Speaker 3: when we're in Queensland for COVID and were doing like
- 9:20Speaker 3: double headers, like four nights a week doing double headers.
- 9:23Speaker 3: And I went to say hello and welcome. We're at
- 9:25Speaker 3: the Sunshine Coast today. We we're watching and I just
- 9:28Speaker 3: couldn't remember the teams that we're watching and got in
- 9:33Speaker 3: my ear and when it's lightning, blood and I went,
- 9:36Speaker 3: so just doing so many games and think it's the
- 9:39Speaker 3: worst thing, but then you realize people see stuff on
- 9:42Speaker 3: television and they go, oh, yeah, well that happens. But
- 9:44Speaker 3: it was water faying, like I'm a netball compentainer and
- 9:48Speaker 3: this is a really I'm talking about a really big
- 9:49Speaker 3: game and I can't remember who he is because this
- 9:52Speaker 3: is the tenth game that I've done this week. Nothing left.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, oh god, let me share with you one Mine
- 9:59Speaker 1: was not in commentary obviously. It was just an email
- 10:03Speaker 1: that I sent to one person. But I was working
- 10:06Speaker 1: at the Warrangaroo Delivery Authority, which is in so Sydney
- 10:09Speaker 1: has got this new urban renewal area. This was twenty
- 10:13Speaker 1: ten and Paul Keating was the head of our design
- 10:15Speaker 1: review panel. He was very heavily involved. That would be
- 10:18Speaker 1: apartments if not for Paul Keating. So whatever you think
- 10:21Speaker 1: of him politically, you can thank him that we have
- 10:23Speaker 1: the barangaroo headline. Anyway, we wanted to have a public
- 10:26Speaker 1: meeting and sort of get him to speak, and we
- 10:28Speaker 1: got these big architects out from the UK, so Richard
- 10:32Speaker 1: Rogers came out and so I wrote a letter, an
- 10:36Speaker 1: email to Paul Keating asking him if he'd liked to
- 10:40Speaker 1: speak at this public meeting. But I wrote pubic meeting
- 10:47Speaker 1: and spellcheck won't pick it up because pubic is a
- 10:50Speaker 1: legitimate word.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So who's going pubing meet?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know spellcheck doesn't pick it up. But
- 10:57Speaker 1: you know who does pick it up, Paul Keet. He
- 11:00Speaker 1: picks that stuff up very very quickly. Yeah. And this
- 11:05Speaker 1: was my first interaction with him, and I was really
- 11:10Speaker 1: keen to kind of prove my worth to him. I
- 11:15Speaker 1: was quite in awe of him, and he didn't really
- 11:20Speaker 1: like me because I'd worked for Bromin Bishop earlier on.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I was like, no, this is good. I'll show
- 11:24Speaker 1: him how professional and competent I am and I asked
- 11:28Speaker 1: him to speak at a pubic meeting.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Now, I'm pretty sure we have told this story or
- 11:31Speaker 2: not dribble before, but I can't remember when did you
- 11:34Speaker 2: find out? When did you realize? Did he say something
- 11:36Speaker 2: back or did you send a go oh crap.
- 11:39Speaker 1: No, no, one of my colleagues. Fortunately I had BCC
- 11:43Speaker 1: one of my colleagues in so he could he was aware,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and so he sent me one back and just said,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I wonder how Paul's going to feel coming to the
- 11:52Speaker 1: pubic meeting. Just oh it was And so I just
- 11:57Speaker 1: had to send a note and Paul Keating said, yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 1: that was interesting.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I'll come back to you.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Oh God, way to go in the first week in
- 12:07Speaker 1: a job.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But you make yourself memorable.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It makes yourself memorable. So speaking of pubic though, can
- 12:14Speaker 1: I just tell you though everyone I know everyone was
- 12:16Speaker 1: wondering my poo test came back. I'm healthy. So do
- 12:19Speaker 1: you test everyone?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Because you just get a quick.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Letter back saying results negative or if there's something you
- 12:24Speaker 1: need to look at, then you go and look at it.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But yeah, I thought I could have got a high
- 12:28Speaker 1: distinction or something, but apparently it's just a result. There
- 12:32Speaker 1: was showed negative.
- 12:33Speaker 3: So that's try harder.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think she did. That was the problem at
- 12:40Speaker 2: the start, wasn't it.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Should we take you a little break and come back
- 12:42Speaker 1: and talk about some netball? Yes? Sure, Okay, Well we're
- 12:57Speaker 1: all over the shop this week. We've got a lot
- 12:59Speaker 1: going on. There's a lot of netball going on still.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Obviously I have received an interesting couple of messages from
- 13:08Speaker 1: our good friend Rachel airs so aw an umpire. Yes, so, Rachel,
- 13:13Speaker 1: as you know, was an international umpire, one of the
- 13:16Speaker 1: greatest in the world, and sort of retired a couple
- 13:18Speaker 1: of years ago. Unfortunately, if you are an Australian umpire,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you then never get to umpire things like the Commonwealth
- 13:25Speaker 1: Games Gold medal match because the diamonds are always in there.
- 13:28Speaker 1: So she didn't get to umpire some of the biggest matches,
- 13:31Speaker 1: but was one of the best. But anyway, and if
- 13:34Speaker 1: she did a really great summer series interview with us,
- 13:37Speaker 1: not the summer we've just had the one before it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: But anyway, she has responded about nail checks and then
- 13:43Speaker 1: gave us some good stories about coin tosses. So at
- 13:47Speaker 1: Super Netball, nail checks are done in the team change rooms.
- 13:50Speaker 1: These are done at the time indicated on the event
- 13:52Speaker 1: run sheet. At a tournament such as the Commonwealth Games
- 13:56Speaker 1: or Network World Cup, it depends on the setup. If
- 13:58Speaker 1: teams have a change room, it might be done there
- 14:00Speaker 1: or in a warm up area. Again, will be done
- 14:03Speaker 1: at the designated time on the run sheet. Now to
- 14:06Speaker 1: Kaf's point about why we do checks every day, we
- 14:09Speaker 1: are also checking for jewelry and of any other adornment
- 14:12Speaker 1: that might have appeared since the previous.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Oh, because quite often you pop out and get a
- 14:17Speaker 2: mid tournament nosering.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yep, something like that. Obviously you might want to celebrate
- 14:21Speaker 1: and then you go and you think, let's just get
- 14:23Speaker 1: another piercing. So they're looking at that. But good example
- 14:26Speaker 1: might be when Mazie Nankevell broke her nose and remember
- 14:29Speaker 1: she had to play with that plastic protective mask. Oh
- 14:33Speaker 1: so yeah, so that's the sort of thing that they're
- 14:35Speaker 1: looking at. Also, a lot of the Caribbean teams have
- 14:38Speaker 1: beads in their hair, so they are checking. It's not
- 14:42Speaker 1: just to see have your nails grown at a superhuman
- 14:46Speaker 1: rate overnight. So yes, so thank you Rachel.
- 14:50Speaker 3: And also I think that the use of the word
- 14:53Speaker 3: adornment should get a much bigger run. That is a
- 14:55Speaker 3: great learn. Thank you for your excellent vocabulary.
- 15:00Speaker 1: From the woman who's managed to use diaspora in an
- 15:03Speaker 1: episode this week, So I'm very impressed with that. Liz,
- 15:06Speaker 1: thank you. When you were talking about Tonga, then she said,
- 15:10Speaker 1: do you want some stories about the coin toss? I said, hell, yes,
- 15:13Speaker 1: we want some stories about a coin toss. So she's
- 15:16Speaker 1: got to read the coin toss back when Norma Plumber
- 15:19Speaker 1: was a diamonds coach, so we know it's going to
- 15:21Speaker 1: be a great story. Right off, straightened up Cat's clenching.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Back when Norma Plumber was a diamonds coach, there was
- 15:33Speaker 1: a drama at a test series in New Zealand Stop
- 15:36Speaker 1: kel Sapriz because the umpires were tossing for sides in
- 15:40Speaker 1: the change room that had to be moved to courtside
- 15:43Speaker 1: to avoid any perceived fudging of the result, and also
- 15:47Speaker 1: a little concern that there might be something some trickery
- 15:51Speaker 1: done that would mean that a particular umpire ended up
- 15:54Speaker 1: at one end of the court in the final quarter.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Stop.
- 16:01Speaker 3: That's interesting. It is very hard, but good for integrity
- 16:06Speaker 3: if you can bring it out into the open, true.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Great for integrity. That's right, and this one is terrific.
- 16:11Speaker 1: At the last Glasgow Commonwealth Games, teams were having their
- 16:15Speaker 1: own coin toss in the warm up area before the game.
- 16:18Speaker 1: As the reserve umpire, I went to do this, So I,
- 16:21Speaker 1: being Rachel is here, I'm just reading her message. As
- 16:25Speaker 1: the reserve umpire, I went to do this with our
- 16:27Speaker 1: usual fifty cent coin. Doesn't roll as far because of
- 16:30Speaker 1: the edges as it's octagonal. Right. Well, there was an
- 16:33Speaker 1: appeal after the match because teams were confused about which
- 16:36Speaker 1: side of the coin was a designated heads, their point
- 16:39Speaker 1: being that both the kangaroo and the emu and the
- 16:41Speaker 1: queen all have heads, to which Rachel's response was yes,
- 16:47Speaker 1: but as far as I know, her, majesty, the Queen
- 16:50Speaker 1: does not have a tail.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That is brilliant.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, so funny. That's international sport.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Oh and that actually appealed it. But there's two heads
- 17:07Speaker 2: on that side.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and I assume an appeal happens after the game.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Well yeah, kid, Well, obviously if you lose, is that
- 17:16Speaker 2: what you resolve If.
- 17:19Speaker 1: There's a problem with the coin toss, do you appeal
- 17:21Speaker 1: the coin toss in the moment and go hang on,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I don't see how that can work.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Well, you'd have to.
- 17:25Speaker 2: You can't do it after the fat like if you've lost,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and I'll try your toys about the coin.
- 17:31Speaker 3: I don't know, but maybe there were teams who had
- 17:35Speaker 3: never come across the Kangaroo or the Hemu before. They're unusual.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It's terrrileriiant thank you Rachel. That came from and asked
- 17:44Speaker 1: from the goat last week. And then of course here
- 17:47Speaker 1: we have a goat umpire calling in to help us out,
- 17:50Speaker 1: so that is very exciting.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. Actually, speaking of speaking of the coin toss,
- 17:57Speaker 3: can we give a shout out to the Governor General
- 17:59Speaker 3: Sam Bustin did the coin toss for Australia. She was
- 18:02Speaker 3: per coin toss was outstanding, so there'll be any appeals
- 18:06Speaker 3: about her.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And she was in my favorite green suit I think,
- 18:09Speaker 2: wasn't she.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Yes, so yeah before Catherine. Yeah, she's the patron of
- 18:16Speaker 3: Netball Australia and so she's.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Also the patron in chief of the Common Off Games
- 18:20Speaker 2: of Australia.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yes, so she's doing double ginish. I mean that is
- 18:24Speaker 3: just excellent time efficiency, isn't it? Like you tick off
- 18:27Speaker 3: both COmON off games tick diamonds tick, doing it all
- 18:29Speaker 3: at once, doing the coin toss in your favorite green suit, which,
- 18:32Speaker 3: if I recall rightly, we got invited to. She hosted
- 18:35Speaker 3: the launch of the Netball Australia Strategic Plan at Kirabilly.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Is an Admiralty house at Kirabilly and within forty seconds
- 18:42Speaker 3: of Catherine walking in, were saying to the Governor General,
- 18:45Speaker 3: where do you get your suits made?
- 18:50Speaker 1: You have a red suit though, which is amazing, And Liz,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you have worn is it a yellow or an orange suit?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Am I right? Because I'm just wondering that we might
- 19:00Speaker 1: get the three of you to do some traffic light
- 19:02Speaker 1: modeling for us time getting you all together.
- 19:05Speaker 3: In that yellow.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Look, I'm going to be honest. All of my nice
- 19:10Speaker 3: colored suits are suits that I've failed to return to
- 19:13Speaker 3: various television stations after my employment there. But they've all
- 19:18Speaker 3: got to be they were going to be altered to
- 19:19Speaker 3: fit me, so no one else in television's six foot
- 19:22Speaker 3: tall that was going to.
- 19:23Speaker 2: The funny You say that because we're doing the com
- 19:26Speaker 2: Moth Games and Channel seven obviously, and Emma Friedman is
- 19:29Speaker 2: one of the hosts. I saw her last night. She's
- 19:30Speaker 2: a tiny little pocket rocket. She's so she's amazing, but
- 19:35Speaker 2: she's so tiny. Anyway, I walked out with some pants
- 19:38Speaker 2: and she's, oh, I love those pants. I said, yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 2: they're amazing. There so long, and she goes, yeah, I
- 19:42Speaker 2: would never complain about that. I said, yeah, well you
- 19:44Speaker 2: don't have to. You don't need extra length. Your pants
- 19:49Speaker 2: are all long. You get to take them up. That's
- 19:51Speaker 2: not something that tall people have them, you.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Know that luxury saddest story over come.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Anyway, I was just thinking she would never encoun to
- 20:00Speaker 2: an issue like that. Just no.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I did buy some cropped pants from Q a
- 20:05Speaker 1: while ago, and I didn't have to get them. They're
- 20:07Speaker 1: not cropped. They're just a proper length pair of trousers
- 20:09Speaker 1: on me. So you know, actually yes, actually we don't
- 20:13Speaker 1: say it like that, like you know how tall I am?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Not? No, but they were meant to be crop pants
- 20:19Speaker 2: and they're full length on you.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yep. I can't. I can't with gym tights. I can't
- 20:23Speaker 1: even get the seven eighths because they're still too long
- 20:25Speaker 1: for me and a bunch around the ankles. I have
- 20:27Speaker 1: to get three quarters and then they sit at about
- 20:29Speaker 1: the seven eighths and what what we are the world, Catherine,
- 20:33Speaker 1: people I love.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Do you know what I'd like to do is for
- 20:36Speaker 4: you to chop that extra stuff off and give it
- 20:38Speaker 4: and give it to you? Yeah, because I think it
- 20:39Speaker 4: is it's easier to stuff off than to get extra
- 20:43Speaker 4: length in things. So AnyWho, I did.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I did go to the reunion on Saturday night and
- 20:49Speaker 1: got my daughter to give me some fashion suggestions first,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and she had me in these sort of more modern
- 20:54Speaker 1: wide leg jeans and things. But on the night I
- 20:56Speaker 1: didn't tell her I was going to do. I just
- 20:58Speaker 1: wore my skinny jeans with you. I'm wearing my skinny jeans.
- 21:02Speaker 1: What else you're watching at the Commonwealth Games?
- 21:05Speaker 3: Oh? Well, you know I gave you the heads up
- 21:06Speaker 3: last week on Monday Wednesday, the day yes when we love.
- 21:10Speaker 3: We're loving the bowls, watching a bit of three.
- 21:12Speaker 1: What about the gymnastics and the Australian team doing so
- 21:15Speaker 1: well and like winning winning gold medals in the team
- 21:19Speaker 1: comps and individual medals and the like, and like the
- 21:22Speaker 1: men's gymnastics team has won a medal, like broken a
- 21:26Speaker 1: hoodoo that's like more than forty years and it's it's
- 21:30Speaker 1: so wonderful, and that one of the one of the
- 21:33Speaker 1: young female gymnasts who was part of the gold medal team,
- 21:38Speaker 1: like had a massive achilles tear not that long ago
- 21:41Speaker 1: and thought her career was over and now she's now
- 21:43Speaker 1: she's got some jewelry.
- 21:45Speaker 2: But what about Hailey Lewis's Hailey Lewis's son, Yes, won
- 21:50Speaker 2: a medal in the swimming as well.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he's amazing, isn't he. It's not Wally Lewis, but
- 21:55Speaker 1: that's what.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I want to say.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It's all It is a level of pressure, though, isn't
- 22:00Speaker 2: it when you're in the same sport that your parent
- 22:03Speaker 2: was successful in at some stage. And then Cam macavoice
- 22:06Speaker 2: so I saw an interview with him recently, completely changed
- 22:10Speaker 2: his training because he felt like he was sort of,
- 22:13Speaker 2: you know, at a point where he wasn't getting any
- 22:15Speaker 2: better with what he was currently doing. He put on
- 22:17Speaker 2: nearly fifteen killos, which for a swimmer is substantial, and
- 22:20Speaker 2: then one goal the other night.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Oh legend, So great, isn't it. I'd love to have
- 22:24Speaker 1: an excuse to put on weight, like a movie role
- 22:28Speaker 1: or Carolyn, you really need to gain fifteen pounds, do
- 22:32Speaker 1: I really? Okay, I'll be at the doughnut shop. I
- 22:36Speaker 1: want to give a shout out to Lauren Miller, who
- 22:38Speaker 1: was a dribbler who was in the crowd at the
- 22:40Speaker 1: Commonwealth Games there and was interviewed in stadium and gave
- 22:45Speaker 1: no dribbler shout out Lauren, so she did she she
- 22:50Speaker 1: talked about a netball club. I can't remember which club
- 22:54Speaker 1: it was in Australian club and then dribblers.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Sorry was it?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Is it Eastwood? I think maybe it was Eastwood? Yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 1: and then or give a shout out to the dribblers
- 23:01Speaker 1: and look, it didn't sound like there were a lot
- 23:03Speaker 1: of dribblers in the audience. But this is what we
- 23:05Speaker 1: need from new dribblers. We need if we want this
- 23:08Speaker 1: cult to take over the world. We all need to
- 23:11Speaker 1: be responsible for getting new members in the no dribble community.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So Lauren, superstar, thank you. Question Liz. I don't know
- 23:19Speaker 1: whether you've seen this one. So this one's also come
- 23:22Speaker 1: up on the Facebook group from Tash So been thinking
- 23:25Speaker 1: about if netball makes it to the Olympics twenty thirty
- 23:27Speaker 1: two or beautiful thought.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Let's out that that's my happy thought takes happenss place?
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeap, that would be good and what it means for England, Wales,
- 23:37Speaker 1: Scotland Northern Ireland because under an Olympic rules these four
- 23:41Speaker 1: countries all become Team Great Britain due to Olympics seeing
- 23:44Speaker 1: them as sovereigns moll as sovereign states as a single member.
- 23:48Speaker 1: How would it work, who's the selectors, the coaches? Would
- 23:50Speaker 1: be super interesting to watch players.
- 23:52Speaker 3: And it would would be interesting. I mean, I can't
- 23:55Speaker 3: give you're a definitive answer because I get it mixed
- 23:57Speaker 3: up between what's the United Kingdom, what's great written, what's
- 24:01Speaker 3: the British Isles? What's what's what? Because I saw something
- 24:04Speaker 3: recently on social and someone had tried to put a
- 24:07Speaker 3: map up and there was this huge and it was
- 24:09Speaker 3: nothing to do with netball, but there was this bit
- 24:11Speaker 3: of a bunny about where Ireland sit in Northern and
- 24:14Speaker 3: I was like, oh man, that's just a whole morass
- 24:17Speaker 3: that you don't know what wide into. But I think
- 24:21Speaker 3: it would be fascinating. Right, So you remember, do you
- 24:23Speaker 3: remember this casroue years ago years in news, like three
- 24:27Speaker 3: hundred years ago, we had a Test series against the
- 24:29Speaker 3: Americas and they put together all of like all the
- 24:33Speaker 3: Caribbean nations. So when the cricket teams play, they play
- 24:36Speaker 3: as the West Indies, whereas we play against Jamaica and
- 24:38Speaker 3: Trinidad and Barbados and they're the three probably best rape
- 24:43Speaker 3: teams from that area. But you know, you can go
- 24:46Speaker 3: to a World Cup and I've played against us that
- 24:49Speaker 3: Kits and Nevis and all these beautiful little places. But
- 24:54Speaker 3: it would be so good to marry them all up
- 24:56Speaker 3: for a Test series as the West Indies.
- 24:58Speaker 2: To see now it would not because we.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Could that be seriously, it would be bad. And so
- 25:05Speaker 3: like I wondered now because Wales have a team in
- 25:08Speaker 3: the English Super League and I was wrong last time
- 25:11Speaker 3: I spoke about English super League, so I could be
- 25:13Speaker 3: wrong again. But there's a number of Welsh and Scottish
- 25:16Speaker 3: players in that league, so I think it would be fair.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I'd love to see that. I mean, it would have
- 25:21Speaker 3: to work it out, but it'd be nice.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Can we do with it? Yeah? A little shout out though,
- 25:25Speaker 2: while we're talking about Scotland and Wales. Scotland beat Wales
- 25:29Speaker 2: the other night, so Cath Tetlee is over there coaching
- 25:31Speaker 2: from the coaching Scotland. Scotland would ranked tenth, Wales will
- 25:35Speaker 2: rank seventh, So massive, massive, upset win and to do
- 25:39Speaker 2: it at home at a homecom games.
- 25:41Speaker 1: How exciting.
- 25:42Speaker 3: That's awesome, that's brilliant. So yeah, that's a great question
- 25:47Speaker 3: from the drill.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I'm happy to be on the pool of selectors. I'll
- 25:50Speaker 2: travel over there.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And I'm just really.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Hope that's a question we have to answer in real life.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I hope so too. Yes, great question, Thank you, Tash.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Don't really know can we talk about we didn't really
- 26:04Speaker 1: talk about this.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Oh oh, that's cool.
- 26:10Speaker 1: We are such idiots, aren't we. Like we did a
- 26:15Speaker 1: whole segment on this in last week's episodes.
- 26:18Speaker 2: It were.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And we're running late because we had technical issues. As
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, we record on Monday at twelve. We couldn't
- 26:25Speaker 1: get on until it was about twelve forty by the
- 26:27Speaker 1: time we got everything sorted. But we've just had the emergency.
- 26:32Speaker 3: That was cool. I'll tell you what.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Here's something too that's just come through. Hi mum, this
- 26:37Speaker 1: has just come to my phone now. Hi mom, I
- 26:40Speaker 1: dropped my phone in the toilet by accident, my SIM
- 26:42Speaker 1: card and my phone has water damage. Can you please
- 26:45Speaker 1: message my new number? Scammers I get them too, and
- 26:50Speaker 1: I'm like neither awed to have their phones on them
- 26:53Speaker 1: at their schools at this time of day.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Oh my god, I would fall for that.
- 26:57Speaker 1: If you need to Yeah, I need to do you
- 27:00Speaker 1: need to get a code word so that if something
- 27:04Speaker 1: does let that happen and she sends you a text,
- 27:06Speaker 1: if she doesn't have that word in it, you know
- 27:09Speaker 1: it's a scam.
- 27:10Speaker 2: No.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that has just come through to my phone now. Interesting.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Wow, I mean I wouldn't fall for it right now
- 27:16Speaker 2: because my ten year old does not know how to
- 27:18Speaker 2: source a phone and simcuts from anywhere else anyway. Wow.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Yeah, So where it iss? And we didn't have our
- 27:26Speaker 1: phones turned off then? But that was something we talked
- 27:31Speaker 1: about at length last week. New Zealand Jamaica game. Who
- 27:35Speaker 1: watched it and can tell me anything about it? And
- 27:37Speaker 1: what are we looking at with those two teams at
- 27:39Speaker 1: the moment?
- 27:40Speaker 3: I am.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I actually thought Jamaica might get up in this one,
- 27:44Speaker 2: but New Zealand did and did buy five I think
- 27:47Speaker 2: in the end simply convincing, I mean, great result, which
- 27:51Speaker 2: just I think goes to show that we're right about
- 27:54Speaker 2: Australia New Zealand being in this gold medal game, don't
- 27:56Speaker 2: you think?
- 27:57Speaker 3: But I'm think out of those two teams. Probably Jamaica's
- 28:00Speaker 3: got a bit of improvement in them. So I thought
- 28:04Speaker 3: it was like I turned it on just before quarter
- 28:07Speaker 3: time this morning. Sorry, on Monday morning, I turned it
- 28:10Speaker 3: on just before quarter time and there's only two goals
- 28:13Speaker 3: in it, and then it stayed that way almost the
- 28:16Speaker 3: whole match. I think New Zealand might have won the
- 28:19Speaker 3: first corner in Jamaica won the second corner, so it
- 28:22Speaker 3: sort of fluctuated between five and two goals the whole match.
- 28:24Speaker 3: So you felt like New Zealand were always in control.
- 28:27Speaker 3: It never looked like they were going to lose control,
- 28:30Speaker 3: and I felt like Jamaica like they just lost the
- 28:34Speaker 3: ball a few times at critical moments. It was more
- 28:36Speaker 3: about their play under pressure, which surprised me.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Yeah, fitness or play under pressure, because we know some
- 28:42Speaker 2: of them are fit. It's probably all the back end right,
- 28:44Speaker 2: the ones that have been playing in superner Ball.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, baby yeah, I thought that looked good though. Rob
- 28:49Speaker 3: Right was on the bench. So this morning it was
- 28:51Speaker 3: at one end there was Rob Right, the other end
- 28:52Speaker 3: there was Brani Eagle. When I was looking at the matches,
- 28:55Speaker 3: it was crazy, wasn't it familiar?
- 28:58Speaker 1: New Zealand it's not looking great for the New Zealand
- 29:01Speaker 1: comp for twenty twenty seven next year. So there was
- 29:04Speaker 1: interesting something came out during the week. It was the
- 29:07Speaker 1: chair of netbel New Zealand talking about so the financials
- 29:11Speaker 1: are worse than they had expected them to be. They're
- 29:14Speaker 1: not saying there won't be a comp, but they're saying
- 29:16Speaker 1: it's too early for them to tell what that comp
- 29:18Speaker 1: will look like, and that when specifically asked about whether
- 29:22Speaker 1: players should be seeking international contracts, the chair said, the
- 29:28Speaker 1: players need to be looking for what is the right
- 29:31Speaker 1: opportunity for them. And now I hadn't realized this year
- 29:34Speaker 1: when the kiwis came over that there were only a
- 29:36Speaker 1: certain number of them who were granted exemptions from that
- 29:39Speaker 1: whole Silverfern selection thing. Now there is no requirement to
- 29:43Speaker 1: play in a domestic comp for any player and they
- 29:46Speaker 1: can still be eligible for Silverfern selection. I believe what.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Surely, surely you've got to play the customer for them somewhere.
- 29:53Speaker 1: No, no, no, but you don't have to play in
- 29:55Speaker 1: the New Zealand domestics. So in twenty twenty six all
- 29:58Speaker 1: of those New Zealand players who came over here were
- 30:01Speaker 1: given specific individual exemptions, I understand and so, but now
- 30:07Speaker 1: it's a kind of blanket. You want to go playing
- 30:10Speaker 1: in Australia, if you get a contract in the UK, Malaysia, whatever,
- 30:16Speaker 1: take whatever suits you.
- 30:17Speaker 2: So, as Sue Gordion said, the phones were already running hot,
- 30:21Speaker 2: running hot, with Kiwi's ringing, trying to find spots in
- 30:24Speaker 2: some superniple So very interesting.
- 30:26Speaker 3: It's pretty tragic, though, isn't it. Like it's oh, it's awful. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 3: I think it's awful, and I think it's sad for
- 30:33Speaker 3: like back when we're playing Catherine, New Zealand were always
- 30:37Speaker 3: like we always felt they were three steps ahead of
- 30:39Speaker 3: us commercials truly. So I mean, I don't know, I
- 30:43Speaker 3: don't know enough about sort of the ins and out
- 30:45Speaker 3: of what's happened, but I really do hope that they
- 30:48Speaker 3: can find a way to turn it around and find
- 30:50Speaker 3: a way to run a league because I think they
- 30:52Speaker 3: need to, and it's good for the international game as well,
- 30:56Speaker 3: and it's you know, you want you want to make
- 30:58Speaker 3: sure that there are a number of that players can
- 31:01Speaker 3: have the opportunity to play. The more professional contracts there
- 31:03Speaker 3: are around the world, the better it is for everyone
- 31:06Speaker 3: and the hard thing about these players in New Zealand
- 31:08Speaker 3: is it our contract contracted window will open on the
- 31:12Speaker 3: fourth of August. But the English contracting windows I think
- 31:15Speaker 3: almost shut. I think they've just about done all their
- 31:17Speaker 3: player signings, so.
- 31:19Speaker 1: They've certainly announced a lot, haven't they.
- 31:21Speaker 3: So it's not like it's you know, in football if something.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Remember years ago the A League sort of had a
- 31:27Speaker 3: hiatus three year while they got themselves sortied. But all
- 31:29Speaker 3: those there's any number of soccer competitions around the world,
- 31:33Speaker 3: but we've heard about the three oh sorry and South
- 31:36Speaker 3: Africa as well, so it's not like there's this plethora
- 31:39Speaker 3: of contracts that players can go and fight for. So
- 31:43Speaker 3: I really do hope that the board New Zealand.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Can doesn't it show though that what's happening. You know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: we know what a great sport this is, we know
- 31:51Speaker 1: what the community is behind it, we know what an
- 31:53Speaker 1: awesome opportunity it is for the commercial partners who get involved.
- 31:57Speaker 1: But quite clearly in New Zealand they're having the same
- 32:00Speaker 1: sorts of challenges that we are here in Australia, like
- 32:03Speaker 1: the other sports are just getting all of this money,
- 32:06Speaker 1: So it is it is difficult to you know, it's
- 32:10Speaker 1: difficult to grow the game, particularly at that professional level
- 32:12Speaker 1: if you haven't got those big sponsorships. And for whatever reasons,
- 32:16Speaker 1: they're still going mostly to the sports that are dominated
- 32:20Speaker 1: by the blokes. And I guess then the other sports,
- 32:23Speaker 1: as we say, the kind of the sister sports AFLW, NRLW,
- 32:28Speaker 1: even the cricket, they benefit from having had these incredibly large,
- 32:31Speaker 1: mature men's games that they can leverage off with expertise
- 32:36Speaker 1: and relationships and partnerships and the commercial sponsors understanding that
- 32:41Speaker 1: game and how to execute it. But you know, it's difficult.
- 32:45Speaker 1: We still the sponsors are still not understanding the value
- 32:50Speaker 1: of this product. Bloody it is.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think one of the things that like, there's
- 32:54Speaker 3: so much to unpack there, right, Absolutely don't begrudge, Like,
- 32:57Speaker 3: I love the fact that if you're a good young
- 33:00Speaker 3: female athlete you have options, right, I think that's absolutely fantastic.
- 33:05Speaker 3: One of the things that you know, the sports grapple
- 33:09Speaker 3: with is what type of sponsorships do you accept? Right?
- 33:12Speaker 3: So do you accept gambling sponsorships for example? And so
- 33:17Speaker 3: it's so hard to think about, you know, what are
- 33:19Speaker 3: your values, how do they align? But what do you
- 33:21Speaker 3: really need. So I don't know what NETBORL New Zealand
- 33:24Speaker 3: are sort of looking at it and how they might
- 33:26Speaker 3: sort of get themselves ensure they've got a league of
- 33:30Speaker 3: some sort next year. But yeah, there's a lot to
- 33:33Speaker 3: sort of to sort of figure out. And unfortunately, you know,
- 33:37Speaker 3: television deals are really hard to come by. So that's
- 33:41Speaker 3: why I'm just so proud of our five year deal
- 33:43Speaker 3: with Channel nine with a rights for attachment. There's only four.
- 33:46Speaker 3: I think I've said this before, but I'm going to
- 33:48Speaker 3: say at nauseum there's only four standalone broadcast deals globally
- 33:54Speaker 3: from women's sports without being attached to a men's sport
- 33:57Speaker 3: that have a right sphere attached like that is we're
- 34:00Speaker 3: one of four. Yeah, Like it's a tough market. I
- 34:06Speaker 3: am really optimistic for our sport because I feel like
- 34:08Speaker 3: we are just stepping into our power. But I also
- 34:11Speaker 3: get that there are some really challenging times elsewhere.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, thinking of them across the.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Lad Yeah absolutely, And yeah I'm sort of looking for
- 34:21Speaker 1: you know, I know we've got a lot of key
- 34:22Speaker 1: we dribblers there we would love to be you know,
- 34:24Speaker 1: we will be watching with interest what happens, you know,
- 34:27Speaker 1: we want to hear more about New Zealand network. What
- 34:29Speaker 1: we've started to see this year through Super Network with
- 34:31Speaker 1: all of these amazing players coming through, is that there's
- 34:34Speaker 1: some really great stuff to watch over there. Saying with
- 34:36Speaker 1: the UK, I just think it's it's terrific. But yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 1: fingers crossed. But I really hope New Zealand it settles shortly.
- 34:46Speaker 1: But they've obviously got some tough times there. Right, Well,
- 34:49Speaker 1: we should have a little break and then we will
- 34:51Speaker 1: come back and I've got some interesting stuff to tell Catherine.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I've got a very important question for Lizellis.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh great, it's really important. Well, I think we all
- 35:14Speaker 1: want to know what the really important question is, cas,
- 35:16Speaker 1: So shall.
- 35:16Speaker 2: We lead with that? Yeah, okay, so this is important
- 35:19Speaker 2: for me and probably a lot of other fans of sweets.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, before we started, when we're having technical issues,
- 35:27Speaker 2: oh was head in right at the bottom of a
- 35:31Speaker 2: bag of chocolate bullets.
- 35:33Speaker 1: And a little bit difficult because she went, I'll turn
- 35:35Speaker 1: off my microphone so you don't have to hear me
- 35:37Speaker 1: chilling out. But it's like I didn't know then whether
- 35:39Speaker 1: her microphone was working. Now there she is. She actually
- 35:42Speaker 1: has a feedbag on. Now, that's so very farmer of you.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Oh the bag is empty.
- 35:48Speaker 1: This is my question.
- 35:50Speaker 2: I love those and could eat the entire bags. This
- 35:53Speaker 2: is Daryl Lee chocolate bullets, right, which is licorice inside.
- 35:57Speaker 2: But I would be scared of the after effects and
- 35:59Speaker 2: I would make myself stop at about six or seven bullets.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Oh how much of that bag have you actually eaten?
- 36:07Speaker 3: Well, I've eaten all of it obviously, but not today.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I mean I'm not I'm not a crescent Catherine.
- 36:12Speaker 1: This is you just had your head in the bag, yeah,
- 36:16Speaker 1: and you were holding it upside down to show on
- 36:19Speaker 1: the camera.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Well I didn't. I mean I've eaten all but not
- 36:22Speaker 3: haven't eat it all today? Right, So I mean I
- 36:25Speaker 3: love the problem he is with these. I can't believe
- 36:27Speaker 3: you can make yourself stop at six or seven because
- 36:30Speaker 3: I very rarely buy these for myself because I have
- 36:34Speaker 3: no self control when it comes to bullets. So normally
- 36:37Speaker 3: it's just a Christmas thing. But I gave myself a
- 36:39Speaker 3: little bit of a treat down. I know, my mum
- 36:41Speaker 3: has been in hospital and I went to buy her
- 36:43Speaker 3: some things to take to hospital, and I accidentally bought these.
- 36:46Speaker 3: It was just an accident. I bought them for myself.
- 36:49Speaker 3: I'll go out to the car Dedrew Chambers. What a surprise,
- 36:52Speaker 3: I've got a packet of dark drop of bullets. So
- 36:55Speaker 3: this is no. I've probably knocked them off over the
- 36:57Speaker 3: course of Well, I'm going to the truth. I ate
- 37:01Speaker 3: half a packet that night on the way home from hospital,
- 37:03Speaker 3: and then I put them in my office and I
- 37:05Speaker 3: found it again this morning and finished them off another days.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's not really showing the self restraint that
- 37:12Speaker 1: she started this segment saying that she had. Oh I'm
- 37:14Speaker 1: not a cret in, Catherine, I know how to stop.
- 37:16Speaker 2: No, but I'm wondering when the effects of all that
- 37:19Speaker 2: liquorice are going to kick in, don't you She's going
- 37:20Speaker 2: to run out of this door any minute and off
- 37:23Speaker 2: to the bathroom. Hey, just quickly.
- 37:24Speaker 1: It's exciting for me though, because you haven't done a
- 37:26Speaker 1: wee during these episodes in this room for a long
- 37:30Speaker 1: two hours, and you haven't done a wee. And Liz
- 37:32Speaker 1: has now just taken herself to the brink on the bullet,
- 37:35Speaker 1: so anything could happen in the next few minutes, And.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Anything could happen. What about Lizellis's Christmas Day. She just
- 37:41Speaker 2: said that was a special treat Christmas Day. I'm pretty
- 37:44Speaker 2: sure she's told us before. There's also a box of
- 37:46Speaker 2: fruit Loops.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Christmas Morning. I go one hundred miles an hour and
- 37:51Speaker 3: then spend the afternoon in the toilet.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Anyway, Okay, fruitfu wow.
- 37:55Speaker 3: I love fruit lives, but I only get the once
- 37:57Speaker 3: a year because again, I can't be trusted with the
- 38:00Speaker 3: box of fruit Well, that's a lie. I'll eat like
- 38:02Speaker 3: a heap and then, like the last quarter of the Bods,
- 38:06Speaker 3: I throw it out because I'm like, I can't look
- 38:07Speaker 3: at another fruit loop. But that moment on Christmas Morning
- 38:10Speaker 3: where everyone's like there's mess everywhere and chaos, and I
- 38:15Speaker 3: just sit down with a bowl of fruit Loops with
- 38:17Speaker 3: full cream milk and go, oh.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:23Speaker 1: She revisit fruit loops. I think I made an opinion
- 38:26Speaker 1: of them a long time. I don't know. I'm not
- 38:27Speaker 1: going to do. You made me eat that fairy floss
- 38:31Speaker 1: twisty christ.
- 38:32Speaker 2: That wasn't good. Coca pops for days, Cocoa pip absolutely.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Okay. I need to tell you something, Catherine. This Facebook
- 38:40Speaker 1: group of ours, it's so useful, like everything Everything that
- 38:44Speaker 1: happens when we're nice to one another is useful. So
- 38:48Speaker 1: we have a dribbler who is her name's Emma, and
- 38:51Speaker 1: she's revisiting some back catalog. I think she may have
- 38:54Speaker 1: joined us somewhat recently, and she's gone back to some
- 38:58Speaker 1: classic episodes. And as Nicki Commo Buckley said, style never
- 39:02Speaker 1: goes out of fashion, or fashion never goes out of
- 39:04Speaker 1: style of quality or something. Anyway, it was a good
- 39:06Speaker 1: quote and I appreciated it. Nikki. Basically she was saying,
- 39:09Speaker 1: go and listen to the back catalog and we're with you.
- 39:12Speaker 1: But anyway, she is also a Playboy Mansion person, Girls
- 39:19Speaker 1: of the Playboy Man, Girls of the Playboy Mansion. And
- 39:22Speaker 1: on this day, the thirty first of July nineteen seventy eight,
- 39:26Speaker 1: the last Playboy club closed in Lansing, Michigan. So I
- 39:31Speaker 1: just thought that was interesting that she has been listening
- 39:33Speaker 1: to this. Wants you to know that you are not alone,
- 39:37Speaker 1: Briani Akle and I are not alone. All right, good
- 39:40Speaker 1: and good. But then another driver, Amy Lee, came in, and.
- 39:43Speaker 3: You just outed her.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Yeah, she won't mind Bridget and Holly have a podcast.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Oh I know, well, Amy Lee said, you might not
- 39:53Speaker 1: feel so comfortable watching the show once you've listened to
- 39:56Speaker 1: their podcast, which is obviously about what really happens.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Oh no, that's the best bit. You go back and
- 40:01Speaker 2: watch it now knowing all the inns and the apps
- 40:03Speaker 2: I've read.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Example, what no, right, there are no books and you
- 40:09Speaker 1: have not read them?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Holly Madison Down the rabbit Hole. I have read the book,
- 40:14Speaker 2: In fact, I might have read it a few times.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Down the rabbit Hole.
- 40:17Speaker 3: They picture books.
- 40:20Speaker 2: You don't want Girls of the Playboy Mansion to be
- 40:22Speaker 2: a picture book? Lizzle, that's true.
- 40:24Speaker 1: So what's Holy Madison down the rabbit Hole? I'm going
- 40:27Speaker 1: to read this, Catherine, I suspect did'l only take me
- 40:30Speaker 1: half an hour?
- 40:31Speaker 2: No?
- 40:31Speaker 3: I will. And it's example of the things that like,
- 40:35Speaker 3: what's something that you have heard on the podcast where
- 40:37Speaker 3: you've gone, Oh, I need to go back and have
- 40:38Speaker 3: a look at that. Oh I no.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Like heaps of stuff, just like how much they really
- 40:44Speaker 2: disliked him towards the end, but they had to pretend
- 40:48Speaker 2: that they were still you know, and the restrictions on
- 40:51Speaker 2: them having lives outside of living there, and.
- 40:54Speaker 1: It's full on they wouldn't be able to eat a
- 40:56Speaker 1: whole bag of bullets. No, who was the swimmer who
- 41:00Speaker 1: had to put it on fifteen pounds? They'd never be told. Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 1: fascinating any more things anyway, And Liz, is there something
- 41:08Speaker 1: that you've revisited your opinion of from hearing something on
- 41:11Speaker 1: on on No Dribble. So I'm going to go.
- 41:15Speaker 2: She watched it? Didn't you rewatch something? Rather than you're
- 41:18Speaker 2: like the outside how dark this was?
- 41:20Speaker 1: The Outsiders?
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 41:22Speaker 3: Anyway, everyone's Yeah, for high school, I don't have time
- 41:26Speaker 3: to rewatch stuff. I'm lucky to watch stuff in the
- 41:28Speaker 3: first place, because I really can't get much. I can't
- 41:31Speaker 3: get much television time at our joint because it's just
- 41:33Speaker 3: always on sport, always on sports.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Well, everybody might be into Kylie Minogue.
- 41:38Speaker 3: You can test and I'll go forward.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I highly recommend it's not that. Don't watch that with
- 41:43Speaker 1: the children, though.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Okay, here's a question for you. I'm with Ted Lasso
- 41:48Speaker 3: season four about to come out. I'm thinking of going
- 41:50Speaker 3: back and watching seasons one, two, three, just to yep,
- 41:53Speaker 3: you know, because I love it. Would you and my
- 41:57Speaker 3: kids are desperate to watch it because we do right
- 42:00Speaker 3: reference it a bit. But it's so sweary? Should would
- 42:04Speaker 3: you watch it with a ten year old?
- 42:07Speaker 2: You're sweary, I know, but just accuse you of that.
- 42:10Speaker 1: But it's also very wholesome. So it's got some language
- 42:14Speaker 1: in it, and particularly bet Brett Goldstein's character, But yes,
- 42:18Speaker 1: I don't, you know, I would much rather my kids
- 42:23Speaker 1: watch something with offensive language in it that didn't have
- 42:26Speaker 1: a value spase. You know, it's like I think tread
- 42:28Speaker 1: tedl has such a beautiful valuespase. It's just a word.
- 42:34Speaker 1: But anyway, that's again. Even my husband is very disappointed
- 42:38Speaker 1: at my language. So and we do often talk about
- 42:43Speaker 1: what's what's a word that's allowed in this house and
- 42:45Speaker 1: what's not? So I mean, it is, it is. It
- 42:48Speaker 1: is strong swearing in it, But everything else I think
- 42:51Speaker 1: is a really great lovely messages and you know, some
- 42:58Speaker 1: really good characters in there, and some good opportunities for conversations.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I've never seen an episode.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Oh Catherine, I know.
- 43:06Speaker 1: She's too busy reading there. I am Playboy books.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I did tell you I've got just get Playboy books
- 43:13Speaker 2: for the articles I did. I did tell you if
- 43:19Speaker 2: a book is interesting enough to me, I will read it.
- 43:22Speaker 1: So have you read my book? Have you read Lizza's book.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Oh well, I'm not did you read? Did you read?
- 43:30Speaker 1: You've got a story in this book?
- 43:32Speaker 2: Of the books, I will support you.
- 43:35Speaker 1: You've could have been reading them while I was trying
- 43:36Speaker 1: to work out our tech issues for forty minutes.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Yes, it would have been world versed in all sorts
- 43:42Speaker 2: of yes.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Oh okay, well gosh, that has been. Like we've done
- 43:47Speaker 1: a couple of long episodes this week because there's a
- 43:49Speaker 1: lot to talk about, but it's been super fun. I
- 43:52Speaker 1: always love this and I don't know what's happened with
- 43:54Speaker 1: the microphones, but you know, we got through it, everyone.
- 43:58Speaker 2: We got through an emergency National agency alert as well.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Yeah what what morons? Hey, you know we did a
- 44:04Speaker 1: whole segment on this and all three of our phones,
- 44:09Speaker 1: not one has had our phone off there, So.
- 44:15Speaker 2: There we go. We will need to wrap this up though,
- 44:17Speaker 2: because I have to go and pick my kid up
- 44:18Speaker 2: from school.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Charly afternoon. All right, plenty of netball to watch and enjoy,
- 44:24Speaker 1: so everybody'd be nice to one another on the Facebook page,
- 44:28Speaker 1: Go the Diamonds, let's hope for some amazing matches. My
- 44:31Speaker 1: name is Carolyn Swindell's I'm.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Live ellas so soon.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Bye bye bye.
- 44:37Speaker 2: I don't need to wait. Alex, can you maybe take
- 44:45Speaker 2: out some of my tongue tied nurse in those two
- 44:49Speaker 2: episodes because I had a bit of a shock off.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Can we take a vote on that only in favor
- 44:54Speaker 1: of leaving all of the professional sport commentator's tongue tiredness
- 44:59Speaker 1: in I two out of three Alex, please leave um.
- 45:03Speaker 3: But also, Catherine, it's because of your time, thiss, your
- 45:06Speaker 3: tongue tied, this is because of you. You're doing this
- 45:08Speaker 3: great enough to.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Go and do a wee too.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I actually do need to do a week. I can't
- 45:11Speaker 2: concentrate anymore.
- 45:12Speaker 3: I have to go by
