- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back with Jim Morrow. There you caught Football Coaches
- 0:02Speaker 1: Show coming up, Shamar Porter and Malik Dixon Williams. Let's
- 0:05Speaker 1: quickly talk about those two guys. Coach, because Chamar Porter,
- 0:08Speaker 1: to me, he's made and I told him this, you
- 0:11Speaker 1: made two of the great catches I've seen all year
- 0:13Speaker 1: in college football. You know, he's got four catches for
- 0:16Speaker 1: the team. He's got all this talent. What do you
- 0:18Speaker 1: make of him? And how do you see him, you know,
- 0:21Speaker 1: progressing here as a wide out for the Huskies.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of Schamar's.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I think he's got tremendous talent and potential, and you know,
- 0:31Speaker 3: the plan is to keep involving him more and more.
- 0:34Speaker 3: It was hard on Saturday because we just didn't get
- 0:36Speaker 3: you know, he didn't stay on.
- 0:37Speaker 2: The field enough. But I think he's special.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I think he's big, he's fast, he's physical, he's got
- 0:43Speaker 3: big hands, he attacks the football, he's eager to get better.
- 0:46Speaker 3: He's got an amazing attitude. I mean, great personality, high character,
- 0:51Speaker 3: comes from a tremendous family, really really great parents. There's
- 0:55Speaker 3: nothing about him that you don't love that I don't love,
- 0:58Speaker 3: you know, I just want to get him more, more opportunities.
- 1:01Speaker 3: But I think he's just got a great future, you know.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I mean you look at him, you know, in a uniform,
- 1:07Speaker 3: you go, oh, that's what a wide receiver's supposed to
- 1:09Speaker 3: look like. You watch him run, he's, oh God, that's
- 1:12Speaker 3: how he's supposed to run. He's like a lot of
- 1:14Speaker 3: young guys. He just needs reps.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:17Speaker 3: As he gets more reps in games, he's going to
- 1:19Speaker 3: get better and better and better and better and better.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And this guy's gonna end up being a great football player.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I mean, I when I watch him, I see NFL potential.
- 1:29Speaker 3: I don't he's not there yet. He's a long long
- 1:31Speaker 3: ways away from it, but I see NFL potential.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And we got to help him get there.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, And he was talking about his after practice routines
- 1:39Speaker 1: where he'll stay for a quiet a while catching temples.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I mean, how do you get better in anything?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:44Speaker 1: You got to rep him. You got to do it
- 1:46Speaker 1: on your own sometimes.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Oh you know my you know, in my office is
- 1:50Speaker 3: I look right out here, I look at the field,
- 1:52Speaker 3: and this morning, at let's say six thirty, it probably
- 1:55Speaker 3: was six thirty because our meetings started at seven. That
- 1:58Speaker 3: there's probably ten of our receivers out there with their
- 2:01Speaker 3: helmets on catching on the jugs. On Monday night about
- 2:05Speaker 3: seven thirty after dinner, there is about ten receivers out
- 2:08Speaker 3: there with the helmets on, catching on the jugs. Jugs
- 2:11Speaker 3: is the ball machine that you know fires the ball
- 2:13Speaker 3: atom without a quarterback. And as a coach, when you
- 2:15Speaker 3: look out of your office window and you see your
- 2:18Speaker 3: guys doing that, I mean, that's that's heartwarming sight. You know,
- 2:22Speaker 3: it tells you that you got a bunch of guys
- 2:23Speaker 3: that are really committed to being better and you love it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's important, so important. And quick thought on leak
- 2:30Speaker 1: Dixon Williams, Well, good to have him back in the lineup.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Obviously missed a couple. But he's around the ball and
- 2:36Speaker 1: awful lot. He's just like your defense I think, gets
- 2:39Speaker 1: to the ball pretty well and you know, you can
- 2:41Speaker 1: always do better. But that's one of the great things
- 2:44Speaker 1: about him. He seems to be a guy that has
- 2:45Speaker 1: a nose for the ball.
- 2:47Speaker 3: He's very steady, he's very smart, he's very deliberate. I
- 2:51Speaker 3: think he has instincts, Mike, like you're saying, to go
- 2:54Speaker 3: find the ball. He takes good, good angles to get
- 2:57Speaker 3: to the ball good paths. I love the he's playing again.
- 3:00Speaker 3: He's been through so much with his injuries and you know,
- 3:04Speaker 3: fighting through the I mean he's playing with the club
- 3:06Speaker 3: on his hand earlier in the year, you know, with
- 3:08Speaker 3: the broken hand that happened right before the first game.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It was just great to have him back. You know.
- 3:13Speaker 3: He's just a real steady presence, real mature presence for
- 3:16Speaker 3: us defensively.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And leadership, Jim too. You got to get that from
- 3:20Speaker 1: certain guys on your roster. I know, you know, the
- 3:22Speaker 1: coaching staff leads, but you need leaders in that locker room.
- 3:25Speaker 2: He's one of them. I would think he absolutely is.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Without saying a lot, I think the peer to peer
- 3:30Speaker 3: leadership is the most important thing. You know, when your peers,
- 3:32Speaker 3: when your best players step up and there you're your
- 3:35Speaker 3: strongest leaders, and you've got a real chance to be
- 3:38Speaker 3: a good football team.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And that's what we have.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And we've got a lot of different types of leaders
- 3:43Speaker 3: and a lot of maturity. You know, some of these
- 3:45Speaker 3: these transfers that we brought in have just you know,
- 3:48Speaker 3: really assimilated themselves into our culture and become, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: very commanding presences in the locker room. You know, a
- 3:55Speaker 3: guy like TJ. Sheffield or Skylar Bell, I mean those guys,
- 3:59Speaker 3: you know, Jade mc donald, those guys have had a
- 4:01Speaker 3: real presence, you know. And then you combine that with
- 4:03Speaker 3: the guys that are already here that we already know
- 4:06Speaker 3: are our you know, great leaders, the Jiulani's, the dal
- 4:10Speaker 3: Voo Chase, you know, Malie Rante, you know. I mean,
- 4:13Speaker 3: it's it's a good situation we have right now. We
- 4:16Speaker 3: just got to capitalize on it by going and getting
- 4:19Speaker 3: wins on Saturdays.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah, no question about it.
- 4:21Speaker 2: All right.
- 4:21Speaker 1: We're looking forward to it. Thanks again for your time,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and we'll be there on the weekend with you as
- 4:27Speaker 1: the Huskies go five and three. That's my that's my call.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I like your call, all right.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Thanks to Jim Moore. Back with Jamar Porter, Malik Dixon Williams,
- 4:37Speaker 1: we continue on the Yukon Football Coaches Show here Onlear Fields.
