- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:07Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Anna Poole
- 0:10Speaker 1: finally responds to those explosive claims. Sarah's Day is unveiled
- 0:15Speaker 1: as a secret investor in a new powdered drink company
- 0:18Speaker 1: and our Friday debrief. But first, TikToker Sammy Guggenheimer has
- 0:24Speaker 1: hit back at claims she gatekeeps products from her followers.
- 0:27Speaker 1: The Melbourne lifestyle influencer made no fans when she defended herself, exclaiming,
- 0:32Speaker 1: you should try being an influencer for a day. Well,
- 0:35Speaker 1: it all started when a TikToker called Fleur Sky uploaded
- 0:39Speaker 1: a video asking if anyone else had noticed that certain
- 0:42Speaker 1: Australian influencers don't respond to comments. Here's what she said.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Has anyone else noticed that there are some influencers on
- 0:50Speaker 2: this app that would rather die than respond to their
- 0:54Speaker 2: followers in the comments? Like, I see it so often,
- 0:58Speaker 2: especially with some specific Australian influencers. I'm not going to
- 1:00Speaker 2: name names, but their followers and fans or whatever, their
- 1:03Speaker 2: community will be like, oh.
- 1:04Speaker 3: My God, where's your top from? Where are your shoes from?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Their comment section is so dead. Like I've never seen
- 1:11Speaker 2: anything so quiet in my life. Dead silent. And I'm like, firstly,
- 1:17Speaker 2: how have you built a community? Secondly, isn't that like
- 1:21Speaker 2: your job to like sell stuff and influence people?
- 1:24Speaker 3: And like tell them where it's from so then they
- 1:26Speaker 3: can buy it. I don't know.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Maybe I've misread the whole influencer thing.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I really agree with Fleur. There's been so many occasions
- 1:35Speaker 1: where I'm desperate to know where an influencer's outfit's from.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And there'll be so many comments in the comment section
- 1:41Speaker 1: begging them to drop us some crumbs and some clues
- 1:43Speaker 1: as to where it's from. Also, isn't that their whole job?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Like actually to engage with their audience as well? Sarah's
- 1:49Speaker 1: Day does.
- 1:49Speaker 3: That a lot.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well, it often seems like if the influencer has purchased
- 1:53Speaker 1: the item themselves, then they're actually not willing to give
- 1:55Speaker 1: the details. It's always awkward when an influencer does a
- 1:58Speaker 1: try on haul with a particular brand. Usually it's a
- 2:00Speaker 1: fast fashion brand, but everyone wants to know where the
- 2:03Speaker 1: original outfit was that isn't sponsored. And you can tell
- 2:06Speaker 1: that they just don't want to say anything because they
- 2:08Speaker 1: don't want to detract from the brand. Yeah. I think
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's so silly though, because if they actually provide genuine
- 2:14Speaker 1: recommendations to people. When they do try and spruik something
- 2:17Speaker 1: that's paid, it actually seems more genuine. The worst gatekeeping
- 2:20Speaker 1: is when people do it around weddings. There were so
- 2:23Speaker 1: many times I'd be on wed talk and I just
- 2:25Speaker 1: desperately want to know where a pair of pajamas was
- 2:28Speaker 1: and no one would reply. Well, it's clear that Fleur's
- 2:31Speaker 1: sentiments really resonated with a lot of people because the
- 2:33Speaker 1: video went viral. She only has 958 followers, but the
- 2:37Speaker 1: video racked up over 653,000 views and more than 700 comments.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And one influencer's name kept popping up in the comments,
- 2:46Speaker 1: Sammy Guggenheimer. So for those not familiar with Sammy, she
- 2:50Speaker 1: is a 22-year-old Melbourne influencer. She has over 296,000 followers
- 2:56Speaker 1: on TikTok and 146,000 on Instagram. And she often goes
- 3:00Speaker 1: by the name Sammy Guggs or a TikTok handle, Short
- 3:03Speaker 1: Girl Tall Dreams. And she shares a lot of lifestyle
- 3:06Speaker 1: and fashion content, as well as relationship advice on her podcast,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Just For Girls. This time last year, she announced her
- 3:12Speaker 1: split from her AFL boyfriend, Caleb Poulter, which gained a
- 3:15Speaker 1: lot of traction for her. Well, Sammy might not respond
- 3:18Speaker 1: to her followers in her comment section, but she clearly
- 3:20Speaker 1: checks her tags because she shared a response to the
- 3:23Speaker 1: viral video. So in the video, she denied she was
- 3:26Speaker 1: gatekeeping products from her followers and explained that rather than
- 3:30Speaker 1: responding to questions, she instead tags her products on her
- 3:33Speaker 1: Instagram story. She then said this.
- 3:35Speaker 4: There's no point gatekeeping products because we all got to
- 3:40Speaker 4: share things around here. But if I am not, it's
- 3:43Speaker 4: because I'm not reading my comments. It's because there's people
- 3:46Speaker 4: that are rude and mean and commenting mean things on
- 3:52Speaker 4: my videos. So a lot of the time, I just
- 3:54Speaker 4: don't read my comments because I have to protect my peace.
- 4:00Speaker 4: You should try being an influencer and getting hate every
- 4:02Speaker 4: day and getting slandered every day. That's it.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Bam.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I always type things in my Instagram story. There's no
- 4:12Speaker 4: point gatekeeping. If something's good, I'm going to share it.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And I do do that. But, yeah. I know my truth.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I know my peace. Yeah, I'm protecting some of it.
- 4:26Speaker 4: If I don't read all the comments because I'm literally
- 4:29Speaker 4: getting slandered online. Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 6: So, yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 3: This pimple here, it's from chocolate.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I bought it at Woolies.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 4: It's just frustrating.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Like you can never do anything right.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I was really taken aback by Sammy's tone in this video.
- 4:51Speaker 1: How do these people have followers and why are they
- 4:53Speaker 1: so condescending to their followers that make them money? It's
- 4:55Speaker 1: very unlikable. I don't know out of her followers who's
- 4:58Speaker 1: sitting there being like, yeah, I 100% agree with her.
- 5:00Speaker 1: A job of an influencer is so difficult. We have
- 5:03Speaker 1: spoken in length about influencers being trolled on Tattle Life.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And I think it's shit that she does get mean
- 5:08Speaker 1: comments directed at her on her videos. And I do
- 5:11Speaker 1: think that it is a good thing that she is
- 5:13Speaker 1: trying to avoid reading that commentary. But when you're big
- 5:16Speaker 1: on TikTok, I don't think you can because it's all
- 5:20Speaker 1: about engagement and it's all about building a community. And
- 5:23Speaker 1: if you're not responding to simple comments about, oh, where'd
- 5:26Speaker 1: you get that from, then It just looks a bit
- 5:28Speaker 1: sloppy and lazy. I feel like this excuse is a
- 5:31Speaker 1: bit of a cop out. I think that the reason
- 5:32Speaker 1: she's not letting her TikTok followers know where she gets
- 5:35Speaker 1: her outfits from isn't because she doesn't want to look
- 5:37Speaker 1: at the comments. It's because she wants people to go
- 5:40Speaker 1: over to her Instagram where she can link her LTK
- 5:43Speaker 1: and make money off the items that she tags. Well,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm sure this will change with a lot of influencers
- 5:48Speaker 1: when Australia brings in the TikTok shop and we're suddenly
- 5:51Speaker 1: linking everything. I did love that one of the commenters
- 5:54Speaker 1: suggested that she just adds the outfit or product details
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the caption so that she didn't actually have to
- 5:58Speaker 1: read the negative commentary.
- 6:02Speaker 5: If I made a video addressing every time anyone said
- 6:04Speaker 5: anything bad about me, I would be posting all day
- 6:06Speaker 5: long every single day, as would every other content creator.
- 6:08Speaker 3: That's what the whole For You page would be filled with.
- 6:10Speaker 5: But I think we can all agree that this has
- 6:12Speaker 5: gotten a little bit big and a little bit much.
- 6:15Speaker 3: So now here I am. And I'm never doing this again.
- 6:17Speaker 5: I don't address stuff like this, but it has gotten
- 6:19Speaker 5: very big.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Anna Paul has finally responded to the allegations leveled against
- 6:25Speaker 1: her by former friend Michaela Tester. It took the OnlyFans
- 6:28Speaker 1: creator almost a week to reply to the explosive claims,
- 6:32Speaker 1: which caused the internet to call for her cancellation. Now,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it was pretty kind of Anna to upload her response
- 6:38Speaker 1: just three hours after we had finalized Tuesday's episode about
- 6:42Speaker 1: the scandal. Now, for those who missed the episode, Kate,
- 6:45Speaker 1: can you give us a refresher? Yeah, I can't say
- 6:47Speaker 1: I was pleased when Sophie sent that link through to
- 6:49Speaker 1: me at eight o'clock at night. Now, Michaela was not
- 6:52Speaker 1: only friends with Anna, but she was a big part
- 6:54Speaker 1: of the Paul family. She dated Anna's brother Attis for
- 6:57Speaker 1: a couple of years before they broke up in 2022.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And on Wednesday last week, Michaela released an eight minute
- 7:03Speaker 1: expose on Anna and Attis. Now the allegations leveled against
- 7:08Speaker 1: Attis are of a serious nature and for legal reasons,
- 7:10Speaker 1: we can't go into them. As for the claims against Anna,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Michaela called her calculated, manipulative and evil and She also
- 7:18Speaker 1: accused Anna of incentivizing her underage fan base to sign
- 7:21Speaker 1: up to her OnlyFans account with the lure of a
- 7:23Speaker 1: cash giveaway. Michaela also alleged Anna doesn't care about her
- 7:27Speaker 1: fans and that the way she presents herself publicly is
- 7:30Speaker 1: very different to Anna behind closed doors. She also said
- 7:33Speaker 1: that the messaging Anna pushes about body positivity is just
- 7:36Speaker 1: for clout and claims she called a fan fat and sweaty. Lastly,
- 7:40Speaker 1: she alleged that Anna had lied about growing up poor
- 7:43Speaker 1: and actually grew up upper middle class. Yeah, now Anna
- 7:46Speaker 1: uploaded her own eight minute video to TikTok on Monday
- 7:50Speaker 1: night and she started out by prefacing that she doesn't
- 7:53Speaker 1: normally address negative commentary, but the situation was too big
- 7:57Speaker 1: now to ignore. Here's more of what Anna said.
- 8:02Speaker 5: The reason why I've taken so long is because this
- 8:03Speaker 5: all took me by surprise and it was a very
- 8:05Speaker 5: big shock to me because somebody that I thought was
- 8:07Speaker 5: my friend and that I was close with really hurt me.
- 8:10Speaker 5: And two months ago, she was asking me to go
- 8:13Speaker 5: to Fiji with her on a girl's trip. And last
- 8:15Speaker 5: year when my dad was apparently homeless and that was
- 8:18Speaker 5: going everywhere crazy on TikTok, she was the one helping
- 8:21Speaker 5: me through it, sending me voice messages, telling me, don't
- 8:24Speaker 5: listen to the people online.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They're dumb. Everyone is stupid. Tell Papa it's going to
- 8:27Speaker 3: be okay. I hope Papa's okay. Don't tell him not
- 8:29Speaker 3: to listen. She was helping me. So now this has
- 8:32Speaker 3: all come as a very, very big shock and surprise
- 8:34Speaker 3: because I thought we were friends.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Anna saying that she was too shocked to respond isn't
- 8:39Speaker 1: an adequate excuse for this delay. It was this delay
- 8:42Speaker 1: in responding to the allegations that let this situation get
- 8:46Speaker 1: out of control. Yeah, because it gave people time to
- 8:49Speaker 1: pick a side. And this just spread like wildfire across
- 8:52Speaker 1: TikTok and then also into the mainstream media. I disagree.
- 8:56Speaker 1: As I said on Tuesday's episode, I think that Anna
- 8:58Speaker 1: needed some time and space to respond adequately. That is
- 9:02Speaker 1: why I am so surprised that this response in particular
- 9:05Speaker 1: took a week. I thought she was going to come
- 9:07Speaker 1: out with something that would absolutely shoot down Michaela's claim. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 1: because what she should have said after this delay was
- 9:13Speaker 1: that she was taking the allegation seriously and wanted to
- 9:16Speaker 1: address it appropriately. She also could have said that she
- 9:19Speaker 1: was trying to get a feel for how her community
- 9:21Speaker 1: had reacted and was feeling after it and was discussing
- 9:24Speaker 1: it with her team, but nothing like that was said. Well,
- 9:27Speaker 1: she came out and said that she had no PR
- 9:30Speaker 1: team working on this response. She even panned her camera
- 9:32Speaker 1: around during this TikTok to show that she was by
- 9:35Speaker 1: herself and reiterated there was no script. She was just
- 9:38Speaker 1: talking to the camera. She bloody needed a script. And
- 9:40Speaker 1: I actually think that she said this in response to
- 9:43Speaker 1: what Veruca had put on her story. So Veruca Salk,
- 9:47Speaker 1: came out in response and said, look, I managed to
- 9:49Speaker 1: pen this statement in five minutes. Anna Paul, if she's
- 9:53Speaker 1: telling the truth, she'd be able to pick up her
- 9:54Speaker 1: phone and just pump out a video. After watching the
- 9:57Speaker 1: shambles of a response, I don't think that she needed
- 10:00Speaker 1: to pan the camera around to prove that there was
- 10:02Speaker 1: no autocue because it was just Yeah, but I'm just
- 10:06Speaker 1: confused why she didn't have the assistance of a PR team.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Do we believe that a PR team assisted her and
- 10:11Speaker 1: she's just claiming that no one did? She did slip
- 10:13Speaker 1: up during the statement and referenced her team. I would
- 10:17Speaker 1: be shocked, though, if a professional PR team approved this messaging, though. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 1: it didn't have any indication that a PR manager had
- 10:25Speaker 1: looked over this. It seems to me like maybe Anna
- 10:28Speaker 1: sat down with Addis and her mum and came up
- 10:30Speaker 1: with this response. I think she thought that she'd seem
- 10:33Speaker 1: more relatable and genuine if she pointed out that she
- 10:36Speaker 1: didn't have help from a PR team and she was
- 10:38Speaker 1: just speaking from the heart. Yeah, well, Anna went on
- 10:41Speaker 1: to say that she wanted to address the allegations regarding
- 10:44Speaker 1: her her being the operative word. So it was clear
- 10:47Speaker 1: from the get-go that she wasn't going to speak on
- 10:49Speaker 1: her brother Addis' behalf. Now, I understand it's not her
- 10:51Speaker 1: place to talk for Addis, and if she had tried
- 10:54Speaker 1: to defend him, I don't think it would have looked good.
- 10:57Speaker 1: But to not even acknowledge that Michaela had made very
- 11:00Speaker 1: serious allegations against her brother from a top-level perspective really
- 11:04Speaker 1: trivialized this whole situation. At the end of the day,
- 11:07Speaker 1: she's not responsible for her brother's actions, but I think
- 11:10Speaker 1: that it was misleading not to touch on it. I
- 11:12Speaker 1: think she was really playing into TikTok's algorithm in the
- 11:15Speaker 1: sense that people would watch the video and not be
- 11:17Speaker 1: fully across the story. So it kind of ended up
- 11:20Speaker 1: looking like this really petty disagreement between two friends. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: was also really disappointed that Anna completely ignored the most
- 11:27Speaker 1: serious allegation leveled at her. So that was in regards
- 11:30Speaker 1: to her giveaway and allegedly incentivizing her underage audience to
- 11:35Speaker 1: subscribe to her OnlyFans account. Instead, she chose to focus
- 11:38Speaker 1: on the not so serious claim. So she denied calling
- 11:41Speaker 1: a fan she met fat and that she lied about
- 11:43Speaker 1: growing up poor. This is what she had to say
- 11:46Speaker 1: about the fan encounter.
- 11:49Speaker 5: A fan came up to me and we hugged. And
- 11:51Speaker 5: after she walked away, I said, oh my God, she
- 11:53Speaker 5: was so fat and sweaty. Now, I do not call
- 11:55Speaker 5: my fans fat.
- 11:56Speaker 3: That is not who I am. That is not what
- 11:58Speaker 3: I stand for.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That's not what I've ever stood for. But you guys
- 12:00Speaker 5: know me, surely. That's not what I stand for. Sweaty, however,
- 12:04Speaker 5: I may have called her sweaty because when somebody is
- 12:08Speaker 5: wet and they touch you and then they leave and
- 12:10Speaker 5: when you're with your best friend and you are now
- 12:11Speaker 5: wet because of them, you may say, I am now wet. Again,
- 12:15Speaker 5: this was four years ago, but that may have happened.
- 12:17Speaker 5: And I also know that people would have hugged me,
- 12:20Speaker 5: walked away and said, Anna Paul was sweaty.
- 12:22Speaker 3: That does not make them a bad person.
- 12:23Speaker 5: That's just them pointing out that after two people touched,
- 12:26Speaker 5: they are now sweaty or wet.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Anna then went on to say that she hugs thousands
- 12:31Speaker 1: of people at her meet and greets. And in the process,
- 12:33Speaker 1: her shoulder ends up touching people's sweaty underarms. And she
- 12:37Speaker 1: explained after events that she has to clean her shoulder regularly.
- 12:41Speaker 1: with a wet wipe to get rid of the BO smell.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I don't think that Anna could have made it more
- 12:46Speaker 1: obvious that this fan encounter did happen and it did
- 12:48Speaker 1: play out in the way that Michaela alleged. She literally
- 12:52Speaker 1: admitted to calling the fan sweaty and then followed up
- 12:54Speaker 1: by saying that basically she has to get her brother
- 12:57Speaker 1: to fucking wet wipe her down when hugging other fans
- 12:59Speaker 1: and other appearances. But if it didn't happen as well,
- 13:02Speaker 1: how would you remember that incident? Yeah, and calling someone sweaty,
- 13:05Speaker 1: that doesn't have a great connotation attached to it. Overall,
- 13:08Speaker 1: even if she didn't use the word fat, it doesn't
- 13:10Speaker 1: sound like she was very nice about this fan giving
- 13:13Speaker 1: her a hug. I love all the subsequent TikToks that
- 13:15Speaker 1: have come out after this. There's videos of people pretending
- 13:18Speaker 1: to be Anna running straight to the shower after meeting fans.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It makes her sound like she's repulsed by her fans.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Going forward, I'd be really nervous to meet Anna Paul, particularly,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I mean, she lives on the Gold Coast. That is
- 13:29Speaker 1: a very hot, sweaty and humid environment. But you know
- 13:31Speaker 1: when you are lying about something and you go over
- 13:34Speaker 1: the top about it and it comes across like it's
- 13:37Speaker 1: such a lie? That's how it played out because she
- 13:40Speaker 1: was so hell-bent on, no, no, I said sweaty, not fat. Well,
- 13:43Speaker 1: if you think things couldn't get any worse, they did.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Let's hear what Anna had to say about the allegation
- 13:49Speaker 1: she lied about growing up being poor.
- 13:53Speaker 5: The second one is that I lie about growing up broke. Now,
- 13:57Speaker 5: I do not lie about the fact that I grew
- 13:59Speaker 5: up broke. When I say I grew up broke, that
- 14:01Speaker 5: is my experience. That is how I felt. When I
- 14:04Speaker 5: can hear my parents talking in the kitchen that the
- 14:06Speaker 5: budget for the groceries that week is $ 30, it makes
- 14:08Speaker 5: me feel broke.
- 14:10Speaker 3: When we can't afford school uniforms, it makes me feel broke.
- 14:12Speaker 5: When I'm 11, when I'm 10, and all my friends
- 14:15Speaker 5: can afford something and my parents can't, it makes me
- 14:17Speaker 5: feel broke.
- 14:18Speaker 3: When they say, oh, I don't know how we're going
- 14:19Speaker 3: to afford.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Rent next week, that makes me scared and makes me
- 14:22Speaker 5: feel broke. That does not mean that I was the
- 14:25Speaker 5: most broke person on earth. There are definitely people in
- 14:28Speaker 5: way worse situations than me, but that does not mean
- 14:31Speaker 5: that I'm lying about the fact that I felt broke
- 14:33Speaker 5: during those times.
- 14:35Speaker 1: How did Anna not realize that her line, I felt broke,
- 14:38Speaker 1: was going to go viral? I mean, she has been
- 14:39Speaker 1: on TikTok for a long time. It was at this
- 14:41Speaker 1: point where I thought, I think she probably should have
- 14:44Speaker 1: made a written statement because a lot of what she
- 14:47Speaker 1: said can easily be stitched up and people are now
- 14:50Speaker 1: responding to it. It's gotten even bigger. It really had
- 14:54Speaker 1: Jamaican vibes to it. And as you said, Amy, this
- 14:57Speaker 1: has created a real viral moment on TikTok. This has
- 15:00Speaker 1: become a trending sound and people are making jokes about
- 15:04Speaker 1: what made them feel poor as kids, whether their parents
- 15:06Speaker 1: wouldn't allow them to have a Dolly magazine or if
- 15:09Speaker 1: they couldn't go through the McDonald's drive-thru. My favorite is
- 15:11Speaker 1: someone filling up an Aesop soap bottle with cheap soap.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And saying, this is what happens when I feel broke.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I mean, jokes aside, to essentially say that being poor
- 15:20Speaker 1: is a mindset truly did upset a lot of people.
- 15:23Speaker 1: What I don't get is it's the easiest accusation to
- 15:27Speaker 1: provide receipts for, which she did not provide. It just
- 15:31Speaker 1: backed up Michaela's claims that it seems like she has
- 15:33Speaker 1: been cosplaying being poor to relate to her audience. This
- 15:36Speaker 1: was the whole issue with her response. She focused on
- 15:39Speaker 1: these petty allegations and She should have been clear and concise.
- 15:43Speaker 1: She shouldn't have released an eight minute video. It should
- 15:45Speaker 1: have been a lot shorter. She almost just was tripping
- 15:49Speaker 1: herself up with her responses. Well, she also decided to
- 15:52Speaker 1: use the video to address the receipts that have been
- 15:54Speaker 1: popping up on TikTok regarding her apparent wealth as a child.
- 15:58Speaker 1: So she denied the photos during the rounds were of
- 16:01Speaker 1: her childhood home or car. Her defense was that the
- 16:04Speaker 1: internet didn't exist when she was a child. Nor did
- 16:07Speaker 1: she have social media. Therefore, the photos wouldn't be on
- 16:10Speaker 1: the internet. I couldn't believe this because Anna is only 25.
- 16:14Speaker 1: She was born in 1999. For the record, we did
- 16:18Speaker 1: have the internet back then. And Facebook was launched in
- 16:21Speaker 1: 2004 and MySpace in 2003 when we were all at
- 16:23Speaker 1: high school. So There definitely could have been a digital
- 16:29Speaker 1: footprint of her growing up in the early 2000s. Also,
- 16:32Speaker 1: maybe she didn't put it up when she was seven,
- 16:34Speaker 1: but people post a lot of childhood photos once they're older. Now,
- 16:38Speaker 1: Anna then addressed the old photos being dug up on
- 16:40Speaker 1: her Instagram account. So for those who haven't seen them,
- 16:43Speaker 1: there's a whole bunch of photos that have gone viral
- 16:45Speaker 1: showing her traveling in first class. And there's also another
- 16:48Speaker 1: one of her wearing a Gucci watch. This is what
- 16:50Speaker 1: she said about those photos.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Social media is fake. It is not real.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Instagram, it's all fake and it can be faked. So
- 16:57Speaker 5: this is just a perfect example of that. There's a
- 17:00Speaker 5: photo of me sitting in first class when I was
- 17:02Speaker 5: like 13 years old. Please don't quote me. Maybe I
- 17:04Speaker 5: was 12, maybe I was 11, maybe I was 14.
- 17:05Speaker 5: I don't know, but I'm just going to say 13.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And I posted that on Instagram. And people are saying, look,
- 17:10Speaker 5: this is her in first class when she was 13.
- 17:11Speaker 3: She's a liar. She was always rich.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Now, what you don't know about that photo is that
- 17:16Speaker 5: that was a flight that my uncle paid for. And
- 17:19Speaker 5: it was an economy flight because my whole family.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Lives in Germany and we were in Australia.
- 17:25Speaker 5: So my uncle wanted my brother and I to go
- 17:26Speaker 5: see our grandparents. So he bought us two economy tickets.
- 17:29Speaker 5: And during the flight, my brother threw up all over me, everywhere,
- 17:33Speaker 5: everything was wet and hot, everything was dirty. So the
- 17:35Speaker 5: flight attendants take care of unaccompanied minors and they said
- 17:38Speaker 5: to us, guys, come to the front of the plane
- 17:39Speaker 5: while I clean this up, it's the last 20 minutes anyway.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So for the last 20 minutes of the flight, we
- 17:43Speaker 3: were sitting in first class.
- 17:44Speaker 5: And of course they posted on Instagram, I'm 12 and
- 17:47Speaker 5: that's cool. And now people are using that like, liar, no,
- 17:50Speaker 5: social media is fake and it can all be explained.
- 17:53Speaker 3: And I have before.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Another one is I'm wearing like a Gucci watch. Listen,
- 17:57Speaker 5: my dad's job growing up was buying and selling antiques.
- 18:00Speaker 5: So he would constantly go to garage sales and markets
- 18:02Speaker 5: and stuff like that and then sell them on eBay afterwards.
- 18:04Speaker 5: So there's a photo of a watch that he bought
- 18:06Speaker 5: at a garage sale for $ 2 and it's a Gucci watch.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And I posted that. Papa, can I post on Instagram?
- 18:10Speaker 3: Of course I'm posting that. That's cool and that's a flex.
- 18:13Speaker 3: But that is not real. You cannot determine things from photos.
- 18:16Speaker 3: It is crazy. And that is just, those are just
- 18:18Speaker 3: a couple of examples.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I could not believe that Anna's defence was that social
- 18:24Speaker 1: media is fake, especially when she's talking about images that
- 18:28Speaker 1: she's uploaded herself. Does that mean that this statement is fake?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Does that mean that Michaela Testa's allegations are true and
- 18:35Speaker 1: the persona that you've been putting on is fake and
- 18:37Speaker 1: that you weren't poor? I just think I don't know
- 18:40Speaker 1: why she's gone into the weeds and the immense detail
- 18:43Speaker 1: in this. I think she's missed the mark of what
- 18:45Speaker 1: people are upset about. And that's why Michaela's video was
- 18:48Speaker 1: so powerful because Because she was strong in what she said.
- 18:52Speaker 1: She didn't ramble. She got to the point. Well, I
- 18:54Speaker 1: think this line took the cake for a lot of people.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Another one that I, what is it?
- 19:00Speaker 5: I'm a manipulative liar because I called pasta noodles or
- 19:03Speaker 5: something like that.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Like insanity.
- 19:05Speaker 5: I think we can all agree it's gotten very, very
- 19:07Speaker 5: insane where it's just insane.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Because this pissed a lot of people off because Michaela
- 19:15Speaker 1: never called Anna manipulative over saying noodles for a Turkish
- 19:19Speaker 1: pasta recipe. She called her manipulative in regards to incentivizing
- 19:23Speaker 1: her underage fans to sign up to her OnlyFans account,
- 19:26Speaker 1: an allegation that she never addressed. I saw Abby Chatfield
- 19:29Speaker 1: put out a TikTok and it just had her simply
- 19:31Speaker 1: saying something along the lines of, it was never about
- 19:34Speaker 1: the noodles, babe. It's quite clear that Anna has sat
- 19:37Speaker 1: on TikTok. watching every single video about her and she
- 19:40Speaker 1: feels like she has to respond to all of those
- 19:43Speaker 1: trivial videos instead of actually just addressing Michaela's key point. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and trivializing the allegations and making these jokes about it,
- 19:50Speaker 1: it just added to the mixed messaging of the statement.
- 19:53Speaker 1: The tone and delivery were just so off because there
- 19:56Speaker 1: was literally no understanding of how her community felt and
- 20:01Speaker 1: what she needed to address. It just came across as
- 20:03Speaker 1: really dismissive. A bit tone deaf, really. Yeah. And on
- 20:07Speaker 1: the underage fan thing, Anna did say in the comment
- 20:10Speaker 1: section of the video that her following is 93.8% 18 plus.
- 20:15Speaker 1: But if you look at her following, that means that
- 20:17Speaker 1: over 150,000 people are underage. Well, that was in defense
- 20:21Speaker 1: to saying that she was incentivizing her young audience. I mean,
- 20:25Speaker 1: as you said, Kate, I would still say encouraging 150,000
- 20:28Speaker 1: underage children to sign up to her OnlyFans account. is
- 20:31Speaker 1: quite unethical. And also why bury that in the comments?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Why was that not included in the response? Now, Anna
- 20:37Speaker 1: did finish the video by telling her followers that bullying
- 20:39Speaker 1: is not okay and can have serious consequences. Here's what
- 20:43Speaker 1: she said.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah. Me aside in this whole situation.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Okay. Me aside, the bullying that is bested and grown
- 20:52Speaker 5: from this because it's a trend is dangerous and not okay.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And bullying like this It kills people. It kills people.
- 21:02Speaker 5: You might think it's funny to set up your phone
- 21:05Speaker 5: and think, oh, what's trending right now?
- 21:07Speaker 3: I know. I'll say I met Anna Paul once and
- 21:09Speaker 3: say something bad. That'll get views.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Your views aren't worth someone's life, I'm telling you. Or
- 21:14Speaker 5: setting up the camera and laughing with all your friends
- 21:17Speaker 5: about what my body looks like and then posting it.
- 21:19Speaker 5: That is not worth the views. Someone's life are not
- 21:23Speaker 5: worth those views, I'm telling you.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Anna went on to say that she was fortunate to
- 21:27Speaker 1: have a support system around her and she couldn't imagine
- 21:30Speaker 1: going through something like this alone. She then said this.
- 21:34Speaker 5: There are children that go through this kind of stuff,
- 21:37Speaker 5: this kind of bullying alone. And for that, I cannot
- 21:39Speaker 5: even imagine how they even survive that, to be honest.
- 21:42Speaker 3: And because of that, I'm going to leave a number
- 21:43Speaker 3: down below.
- 21:44Speaker 5: If you're alone and you ever need someone to talk
- 21:46Speaker 5: to or need something, please call that number.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Do not hesitate. Because it can happen to anyone.
- 21:51Speaker 5: So I'm just sending my love out there to anyone
- 21:53Speaker 5: that has gone through this or people that will go
- 21:55Speaker 5: through this.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Anna then urged her followers to be respectful to all
- 21:59Speaker 1: parties involved and not to send anyone hate on her behalf.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I think this was actually the best part of her
- 22:05Speaker 1: response because it did make you think, look, these are
- 22:08Speaker 1: two young girls. There's a lot of hate flying around
- 22:10Speaker 1: on the internet. People need to be mindful of what
- 22:13Speaker 1: they're saying online. Look, I understand why she included that
- 22:16Speaker 1: messaging around online bullying, but you can't release a statement
- 22:20Speaker 1: where you ignore very serious allegations leveled at you and
- 22:23Speaker 1: your brother and then try and shift the narrative to
- 22:26Speaker 1: make you the victim. Because if she had been accountable
- 22:29Speaker 1: and addressed the allegations, then I think that this part
- 22:32Speaker 1: of the video would have made sense. I think some
- 22:34Speaker 1: people felt like she was trying to use bullying and
- 22:37Speaker 1: maybe mental health as an excuse for her behavior. People
- 22:40Speaker 1: also didn't find it very genuine because she said that
- 22:42Speaker 1: she was going to provide links for those who were
- 22:45Speaker 1: in trouble and needed help from lifeline and she didn't
- 22:48Speaker 1: include them in the caption i think it was also
- 22:50Speaker 1: because the start of her video was all jokey and
- 22:53Speaker 1: making out like these allegations weren't serious and then suddenly
- 22:57Speaker 1: it ticked over into her crying and saying how serious
- 23:00Speaker 1: the online bullying was yeah and it did feel like
- 23:01Speaker 1: we were getting this lecture about bullying at the end
- 23:04Speaker 1: of the video after she had just trivialized all these
- 23:06Speaker 1: serious allegations I think, as I said earlier, a written
- 23:10Speaker 1: statement would have been a lot better if she couldn't
- 23:13Speaker 1: actually deliver a proper response. On a side note, did
- 23:16Speaker 1: anyone else notice what she was wearing? Yeah, she was
- 23:18Speaker 1: wearing a By Bambi branded top. So she had a jacket.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It said Bambi across it. Bit of peripheral messaging there. Yeah, well,
- 23:24Speaker 1: By Bambi, we spoke about them last year. They've been
- 23:27Speaker 1: involved in a number of controversies involving not paying influencers correctly.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I do wonder, Kate, if she was trying to come
- 23:33Speaker 1: across as.
- 23:34Speaker 7: Bambi, as you say.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Well, she also was wearing, it looked like sort of
- 23:38Speaker 1: pajama pants and she wasn't all dolled up. I think
- 23:41Speaker 1: it was a strategic move to make herself look relatable.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I think she needed a bit more strategy involved in
- 23:47Speaker 1: this because it was not working for her.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I do understand though why she tried to speak off
- 23:52Speaker 1: the cuff because it is part of her brand. But
- 23:54Speaker 1: what I don't understand is You can speak off the
- 23:57Speaker 1: cuff and memorize stuff. Like you can actually come across
- 24:00Speaker 1: as a bit more serious in your delivery. It was
- 24:03Speaker 1: like she was just spewing vomit out. Like it was
- 24:05Speaker 1: just all over the place. How many times do you
- 24:07Speaker 1: think she recorded it? Like could that have been the
- 24:09Speaker 1: first record and she's gone, yeah, this is great. One
- 24:10Speaker 1: and done maybe it seemed like. I wouldn't like to
- 24:13Speaker 1: see the other recordings if that was the best one.
- 24:15Speaker 1: The general consensus was people felt gaslit from the video.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It's PR 101. She needed to respond to the allegations properly.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That would have stopped the narrative completely. What she has
- 24:26Speaker 1: done is provided TikTok with even more to run with.
- 24:29Speaker 1: She then needed to provide a remedy of how she
- 24:32Speaker 1: was going to solve the situation. So an action list,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I'm going to do this moving forward. I'm taking this
- 24:37Speaker 1: very seriously. There was none of that. Now, Michaela Tester
- 24:41Speaker 1: was quick to respond to Anna's video in the comment section, writing, Anna,
- 24:45Speaker 1: please do not try and paint me as a liar.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I will come with receipts. Do not make me come
- 24:50Speaker 1: on here with it all. You said what you said
- 24:52Speaker 1: and you said it in entirety. I thought we were
- 24:55Speaker 1: friends too, until your friends have come to me with
- 24:57Speaker 1: everything you've been saying about me the entire time. I
- 25:00Speaker 1: reached out because I thought we were friends. We weren't.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You are fake and this doesn't cut it. I care
- 25:05Speaker 1: about children and you're extorting them. Now, Michaela went on
- 25:09Speaker 1: to screenshot her comment and post it to her Instagram
- 25:11Speaker 1: story with the caption, of course, Anna will block my comments.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I guess I'm forced into explaining myself in full. I
- 25:18Speaker 1: think the fact that Michaela was able to reply so
- 25:20Speaker 1: quickly back to Anna in a succinct manner, she raised
- 25:23Speaker 1: some really good points, highlights even further how poor Anna's
- 25:27Speaker 1: eight minute video was. Yeah, I suppose if you're trying
- 25:30Speaker 1: to determine who is guilty in this situation, Anna took
- 25:34Speaker 1: a week to respond. Michaela then instantly responded to the
- 25:37Speaker 1: video and said she's got receipts for it. Now, 24
- 25:40Speaker 1: hours later, Michaela updated her followers on those receipts saying,
- 25:44Speaker 1: hi guys, I did promise receipts. While going through and
- 25:47Speaker 1: actually collecting them and reviewing them, I realized something very,
- 25:50Speaker 1: very sinister was happening to me for many years. This
- 25:53Speaker 1: is something the police should be seeing, not the internet.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Although at some stage, I will be able to share
- 25:58Speaker 1: my story in full as I have shared every piece
- 26:01Speaker 1: of my life with you all so far. I will
- 26:03Speaker 1: have to delay for now. I will be moving forward
- 26:05Speaker 1: legally the way it should be. I was very relieved
- 26:08Speaker 1: when Michaela posted this because I think that this issue
- 26:11Speaker 1: really needs to move offline. Now I can't see anything
- 26:14Speaker 1: good coming from more of a slinging match between the
- 26:17Speaker 1: two of them. It's clear that if this matter is
- 26:19Speaker 1: as serious as Michaela alleges it to be, the police
- 26:23Speaker 1: and legal teams need to get involved. I still can't
- 26:28Speaker 1: believe this.
- 26:28Speaker 8: Sarah's Day has officially.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Invested in Hiro.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Let me tell you how it all went down. After
- 26:34Speaker 1: parting ways with longstanding partner, Tropicca, It's been officially announced
- 26:37Speaker 1: that Sarah's Day is an investor in a new drink
- 26:40Speaker 1: company called Hyro. The fitness influencer has been spruiking the
- 26:44Speaker 1: benefits of the drink across her social media channels since
- 26:47Speaker 1: July last year, but hasn't let her followers in on
- 26:50Speaker 1: the secret that she in fact part owns the company.
- 26:53Speaker 1: So for last week, we discussed that since dropping her
- 26:55Speaker 1: daily body bloom, Sarah has suddenly been incorporating a new
- 26:59Speaker 1: drink into her daily routine. Yeah, at first I thought
- 27:02Speaker 1: this was some sort of pre-workout drink, but it is
- 27:04Speaker 1: actually an electrolyte drink. So it comes in a red sachet,
- 27:08Speaker 1: which she's been mixing into water and has a range
- 27:11Speaker 1: of different flavors. The idea is that you take it
- 27:14Speaker 1: at the start of the day and during or after
- 27:16Speaker 1: your workouts to supposedly replenish the electrolytes that you lost
- 27:20Speaker 1: in sweat. It is similar to Body Bloom in the
- 27:24Speaker 1: sense that the drink claims to provide better physical performance,
- 27:27Speaker 1: muscle function, improved digestion, mental clarity, give you better skin,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and also support detoxification. Now, the original owners of Hydro
- 27:37Speaker 1: are a husband and wife team called Stephen Chapman and
- 27:40Speaker 1: Taylor Bird. On the website, the founders make a big
- 27:44Speaker 1: point of telling their customers to trust the science and
- 27:47Speaker 1: say that the drink has been fine-tuned by elite dieticians. Now,
- 27:52Speaker 1: the original owners of Hydro are a husband and wife
- 27:55Speaker 1: team called Stephen Chapman and Taylor Bird. And on their website,
- 27:58Speaker 1: they make a big point of telling their customers to
- 28:01Speaker 1: trust the science of the drink. And they say that
- 28:03Speaker 1: the drink has been fine-tuned by elite dieticians. It also
- 28:08Speaker 1: says that the drink is crafted by the finest ingredients
- 28:11Speaker 1: the earth can offer. And above all, it only contains
- 28:14Speaker 1: five calories and no sugar. It really does seem to
- 28:17Speaker 1: be up Sarah's day street, as it also says it
- 28:20Speaker 1: has no artificial additives, is vegan and keto free. So
- 28:23Speaker 1: you can see the alignment there with her. Now, Sarah
- 28:26Speaker 1: first shared about Hyro in July last year, claiming it
- 28:29Speaker 1: was helping her get through pregnancy. Let's throw it to
- 28:32Speaker 1: what she said. P.S.
- 28:34Speaker 6: This is how I've been surviving this pregnancy.
- 28:36Speaker 1: This is Hyro.
- 28:37Speaker 6: Again, it's the Hyro lemon and lime.
- 28:40Speaker 3: That's the one I like.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Tastes like you found a fresh lemon and lime ice block,
- 28:44Speaker 6: like a quarter of an ice block because I water
- 28:46Speaker 6: it down and it's melted in your water.
- 28:49Speaker 3: It just gives it.
- 28:50Speaker 6: That little bit of like zest, fresh sourness that I'm
- 28:54Speaker 6: going to down.
- 28:54Speaker 3: This whole thing.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Now, Sarah did tag Hiro in the post, but didn't
- 28:59Speaker 1: disclose whether this was a paid or gifted partnership.
- 29:02Speaker 3: As someone who.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Follows her quite closely, I feel like she does this
- 29:05Speaker 1: with a lot of partners. Well, the owners were quick
- 29:08Speaker 1: to cut up Sarah's glowing reviews for their social media.
- 29:11Speaker 1: They wrote, when you check your DMs and Sarah's day
- 29:14Speaker 1: gives you a shout out on her Instagram stories, you
- 29:16Speaker 1: know it's going to be a good day. It continued,
- 29:19Speaker 1: we couldn't be prouder to be hydrating an icon of
- 29:21Speaker 1: Australian online influencing and someone who absolutely needs to stay hydrated,
- 29:26Speaker 1: getting through all that she does on the day to
- 29:28Speaker 1: day plus pregnancy. Now, the owners, Stephen and Taylor, were
- 29:32Speaker 1: really giving the impression that Sarah was randomly came across
- 29:36Speaker 1: this relatively unknown brand and was so blown away that
- 29:39Speaker 1: she just... had to post about it to her over
- 29:42Speaker 1: a million followers. Here's what they said.
- 29:44Speaker 8: We just had some incoming messages in from Sarah's Day tagging.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Us in a few videos. Sarah's Day.
- 29:52Speaker 8: I feel like she's just one of the OG influencers.
- 29:56Speaker 7: Waking up this morning with Sarah's Day, it's pretty epic,
- 29:58Speaker 7: 24 hours. Watch this space. That's so exciting. Orders are
- 30:01Speaker 7: starting to flow through already.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Stay tuned.
- 30:05Speaker 1: This just felt very 2017 because in this video, the
- 30:09Speaker 1: owners are acting as though Sarah has organically come across
- 30:12Speaker 1: this product. When in reality, we know that they would
- 30:15Speaker 1: have spent months trying to get noticed by her. This
- 30:18Speaker 1: would have been some sort of paid partnership. As we know,
- 30:21Speaker 1: she isn't just posting about anyone for free. And the
- 30:24Speaker 1: reason the water is so muddy in this situation is
- 30:27Speaker 1: because Sarah quite often doesn't disclose paid partnerships as you
- 30:30Speaker 1: touched on, which leads people to think, oh, maybe this
- 30:33Speaker 1: time around, this is a genuine product that she really likes.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And this is just a recommendation she's letting us know about. Now,
- 30:39Speaker 1: the owners continued saying that they have been inundated with
- 30:43Speaker 1: orders and people following their accounts since Sarah endorsed their product. Now,
- 30:47Speaker 1: the endorsement hasn't stopped there. So Sarah has continued to
- 30:51Speaker 1: share about this drink for months on end with no
- 30:54Speaker 1: hashtag ad or partnership disclosure. At the end of last year,
- 30:58Speaker 1: she shared a YouTube video just casually using Hyro in
- 31:01Speaker 1: a smoothie recipe. And Hydra has also been casually shared
- 31:05Speaker 1: as part of her workout routine across her Instagram story.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I picked up on this straight away and I was like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: I bet you she's being paid because as you said, Sophie,
- 31:14Speaker 1: she's not the sort of influencer who's going to just
- 31:16Speaker 1: share something and tag it out of the goodness of
- 31:18Speaker 1: her heart. Now, Sophie, what has actually been going on
- 31:21Speaker 1: behind the scenes? Well, to put all of this into context,
- 31:24Speaker 1: Sarah's first post about Hyro was made in July of 2024.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And that's also when the owners made the gushing posts
- 31:33Speaker 1: about how excited they were that Sarah was trying their product. Now,
- 31:37Speaker 1: if we fast forward to January 2025, we are now
- 31:41Speaker 1: privy to what has really been going on behind the scenes.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So on the 20th of January, Sarah and Hiro announced
- 31:47Speaker 1: that Sarah was a part owner and an investor in
- 31:50Speaker 1: the company. As predicted, this wasn't just some chance discovery
- 31:54Speaker 1: from Sarah. The owner said that they contacted Sarah in
- 31:58Speaker 1: early 2024 and sent her the drink, hoping that she
- 32:01Speaker 1: would like it. In April 2024, so three months before
- 32:04Speaker 1: her first post about Hiro, she replied to the owners saying,
- 32:08Speaker 1: Hey Steve, I'm assuming your bubba has arrived, so congratulations.
- 32:12Speaker 1: We got the product and love it. To me, Sarah
- 32:15Speaker 1: commenting about the founder's kids indicates that there's some sort
- 32:18Speaker 1: of prior relationship there. So clearly there's been more back
- 32:22Speaker 1: and forth about her trying the product. The owners then
- 32:25Speaker 1: said they arranged a meeting with Sarah and Kurt in June,
- 32:28Speaker 1: so a month before this first post. Let's throw to
- 32:31Speaker 1: a snippet of what they said. The timing was perfect.
- 32:35Speaker 8: Sarah was pregnant, feeling dehydrated and fatigued, and Hyro became
- 32:38Speaker 8: her go-to. Kurt got hooked too, using it daily to fuel.
- 32:41Speaker 1: His training and busy dad life.
- 32:43Speaker 8: In June, we met up with Sarah and Kurt to
- 32:45Speaker 8: taste test new flavors and chat about how we could
- 32:47Speaker 8: work together. As a small startup, we didn't want just
- 32:50Speaker 8: another paid partnership. We wanted something real, something long-term. After
- 32:54Speaker 8: months of conversations, we made it happen. Sarah didn't just
- 32:58Speaker 8: join as an ambassador. She's now an investor, a part
- 33:01Speaker 8: owner in Hiro. This means so much to us because
- 33:04Speaker 8: Sarah's built an incredible community of people that care about health, family,
- 33:09Speaker 8: and balance, just.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Like we do. So to put this all into perspective,
- 33:13Speaker 1: Sarah and Kurt agreed to become investors and partners in
- 33:17Speaker 1: this business in June. So for seven months, Sarah has
- 33:20Speaker 1: been sharing about a product that she has a financial
- 33:23Speaker 1: stake in, as though she doesn't have a stake in it,
- 33:25Speaker 1: and as though it is just an organic product that
- 33:27Speaker 1: she's been using because of the benefits. This is so
- 33:30Speaker 1: incredibly deceptive. It just shows that this type of marketing
- 33:33Speaker 1: works though, because as the owner said, Sarah simply posting
- 33:36Speaker 1: about the drinks, makes them sell out of their warehouse
- 33:39Speaker 1: several times. What I don't understand is why has she
- 33:41Speaker 1: just not been up front? Because she's had other business
- 33:43Speaker 1: ventures where her name's been slapped on stuff. So she's
- 33:46Speaker 1: always talking about her White Fox boutique line when she
- 33:50Speaker 1: brought out sunglasses, when she brought out bathers. I think
- 33:53Speaker 1: it's been a strategy because if you look back at
- 33:55Speaker 1: her success with Tropica, as we touched on last week,
- 33:59Speaker 1: People genuinely bought into the hype around it because back
- 34:02Speaker 1: then there wasn't so much ad disclosure and people thought, wow,
- 34:05Speaker 1: this drink is just part of her regular routine. So
- 34:09Speaker 1: if her consumers think, wow, Sarah's just using this drink
- 34:11Speaker 1: because it must be really helpful for her workouts. They
- 34:14Speaker 1: buy into it more than if it was introduced to
- 34:16Speaker 1: them as, oh, this is this new brand that I'm
- 34:19Speaker 1: investing in. Does it mean that the brand of Sarah's
- 34:22Speaker 1: day isn't as powerful as it once was? Because For me,
- 34:26Speaker 1: it seems strange that an influencer who has such a
- 34:29Speaker 1: large following wants to almost remove herself from the product,
- 34:35Speaker 1: even though she is an investor in it. Well, she
- 34:37Speaker 1: has subsequently announced that she is going to be bringing
- 34:40Speaker 1: out her own Hyro flavor. And this was after she
- 34:43Speaker 1: finally came clean with her audience about the drink on
- 34:46Speaker 1: January 20th. So in a daily vlog, she said this, Anyway.
- 34:51Speaker 6: Good morning. I am mixing up my Hyro.
- 34:54Speaker 1: This is my electrolytes.
- 34:55Speaker 3: They are delicious.
- 34:57Speaker 6: I'm having the lemon and lime flavor. It kind of
- 34:59Speaker 6: tastes like a splice with ice cold water. Chef's kiss,
- 35:02Speaker 6: especially after hot Pilates. A handful of you guys actually
- 35:04Speaker 6: guessed it, but you would have seen in a vlog
- 35:06Speaker 6: last year. I think it was around June, July, 2024.
- 35:09Speaker 6: I had a meeting with the founders of Hyro and
- 35:11Speaker 6: And long story short, I ended up investing in the company.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I love the founders.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I love the business model. I love the product.
- 35:18Speaker 6: So you'll be seeing a lot more with me and
- 35:19Speaker 6: Hyro and potentially a new flavor that I've come up with.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I went back to look at her vlogs over this
- 35:26Speaker 1: period of time to see if this meeting was included.
- 35:29Speaker 1: And she did go to a secret project meeting in
- 35:32Speaker 1: a June vlog, but that was with Who Is Elijah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: which is the perfume brand that she's collaborating with. I
- 35:37Speaker 1: did not see any reference to a secret meeting with Hyro.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I do wonder if she's trying to appear as if
- 35:43Speaker 1: she's been really upfront with her audience about this partnership
- 35:46Speaker 1: from the get-go when realistically it doesn't appear that she
- 35:49Speaker 1: has been. Do you feel like she is somewhat seeking
- 35:52Speaker 1: revenge on Tropicca? Because as we discussed in last week's episode,
- 35:56Speaker 1: during an old episode of her podcast, The Health Code,
- 35:59Speaker 1: she said that she likes to get revenge on sponsors
- 36:02Speaker 1: that she's parted ways with by dominating the same interest
- 36:05Speaker 1: as that brand. And this does seem like quite good
- 36:09Speaker 1: revenge to Tropicca. be a part owner and investor in
- 36:11Speaker 1: a very similar product. I wonder if she wanted to
- 36:14Speaker 1: get shares in Tropica and they refused, or perhaps she
- 36:18Speaker 1: actually did have shares at one point because she literally
- 36:21Speaker 1: was the face of Tropica for so many years. And
- 36:25Speaker 1: I can see why Hyro have jumped on board to
- 36:28Speaker 1: get her involved as well, because as they said, the
- 36:31Speaker 1: drink has been selling a lot. I just don't like
- 36:34Speaker 1: the way she's marketing it. I do feel like it
- 36:36Speaker 1: is quite deceptive to have a stake in this drink
- 36:39Speaker 1: brand for, as you said, over nearly eight to nine
- 36:42Speaker 1: months and only just now be telling everyone? Where was
- 36:45Speaker 1: your ad disclosure? I'm confused that she doesn't face any
- 36:48Speaker 1: ramifications for this type of behavior with the ACCC. I
- 36:51Speaker 1: wonder if it's because people are so unaware that this
- 36:54Speaker 1: is an ad they don't even bother reporting it. It's
- 36:56Speaker 1: that deceptive. In saying that, as someone who is pretty savvy, obviously,
- 37:00Speaker 1: in the influencer space having this podcast, I knew straight
- 37:04Speaker 1: away that it was a partnership. Most influencers don't tag
- 37:07Speaker 1: a brand if there's not some sort of kickback for them.
- 37:09Speaker 1: So I think if you're a savvy consumer of influencer content,
- 37:13Speaker 1: you knew that there was a partnership there. I get
- 37:16Speaker 1: the impression that influencers know that they can get away
- 37:18Speaker 1: with it and that's.
- 37:19Speaker 7: Why they do it.
- 37:20Speaker 1: There is gray area though, now that she actually has
- 37:22Speaker 1: a financial stake in the brand, because It's not like,
- 37:26Speaker 1: for example, Steph Klessmith and Laura Henshaw always put ad
- 37:29Speaker 1: paid partnership when they're talking about their own business and
- 37:32Speaker 1: promoting it. Yeah, but they're upfront with the fact that
- 37:34Speaker 1: they have a financial stake in it. You know that
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's their business for seven months now. We haven't known
- 37:38Speaker 1: that Sarah had anything to do with it. I am
- 37:41Speaker 1: fascinated that she has decided to invest in this product
- 37:44Speaker 1: and not just be an ambassador. I think that's a
- 37:46Speaker 1: really big step. And I wonder if it's because she
- 37:49Speaker 1: got sick of brands dropping her once they got enough
- 37:51Speaker 1: exposure for her. We've seen her name be removed from
- 37:54Speaker 1: so many brands and they just continue on without her. Well,
- 37:57Speaker 1: it's a very good business move that a lot of
- 38:00Speaker 1: successful people use. A business comes to you, says that
- 38:02Speaker 1: we want to use you to expose our brand to
- 38:05Speaker 1: your audience. And you say, well, I'd like a 10%
- 38:07Speaker 1: stake in it. I wonder how her followers feel about
- 38:10Speaker 1: this type of advertising and if they feel a bit
- 38:12Speaker 1: deceived because I would feel a bit silly if I
- 38:15Speaker 1: saw her what I thought organically talking about how fantastic
- 38:18Speaker 1: this product is. And then later revealing that she actually
- 38:22Speaker 1: had a financial stake in it. I would think, oh, okay,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I'm probably not going to trust her recommendation and reviews
- 38:27Speaker 1: going forward. I think that's a bit of a naive
- 38:29Speaker 1: look at the influencer space though, because it's not like
- 38:32Speaker 1: we're in 2011 where we're like, oh, the influencer must
- 38:35Speaker 1: really like this product. Like everyone knows that what people
- 38:38Speaker 1: are spruiking on their social media channel needs to be
- 38:40Speaker 1: taken with a grain of salt. But I do think
- 38:42Speaker 1: that there are genuine micro-influencers who share really helpful reviews.
- 38:46Speaker 1: And with TikTok, we're seeing everyday people share it about
- 38:49Speaker 1: products in a very genuine way. Yeah, but that's not
- 38:51Speaker 1: Sarah's day and that's never been her MO. Because a
- 38:53Speaker 1: lot of people used to get sucked in originally when
- 38:56Speaker 1: she was talking about her loving earth chocolate and her
- 38:59Speaker 1: Tropicana and They didn't know that she had a brand
- 39:02Speaker 1: deal with them. But we're now savvy enough to know
- 39:04Speaker 1: she's not just helping her followers, she's helping her payback.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And that's why I think people are moving away from
- 39:09Speaker 1: taking recommendations and advice from social media influencers and moving
- 39:13Speaker 1: towards genuine TikTok reviews from everyday people. Now, when I
- 39:17Speaker 1: was taking a deeper look into Hyro, I found a
- 39:20Speaker 1: marketing campaign they ran in August, which was quite disturbing.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So the basis of the campaign is that the owner, Stephen,
- 39:28Speaker 1: declared that he was far until they reached their first
- 39:31Speaker 1: 1,000 sales. Oh, gosh. Now at the time, they were
- 39:35Speaker 1: sitting on 961 sales. Let's throw to what he said.
- 39:40Speaker 7: Starting a water-only and high-row fast until we hit 1,000 customers.
- 39:44Speaker 7: Started a couple of days ago. I've just been having
- 39:47Speaker 7: water and high-row.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 39:48Speaker 7: This is a good idea.
- 39:49Speaker 9: Well, I'm glad you're having the Hyro. We're at least
- 39:52Speaker 9: replacing the electrolytes, which are critical. And you've also got
- 39:55Speaker 9: some vitamin C in there as well. My preference is
- 39:57Speaker 9: that this only goes on for a week, but technically
- 40:00Speaker 9: we can get you up to 21 days.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Now in the caption, they did point out that Hyro
- 40:06Speaker 1: is actually perfectly suited for fasting as it contains all
- 40:09Speaker 1: the electrolytes you need and no sugar. So your body
- 40:12Speaker 1: apparently does stay in ketosis throughout the This was followed
- 40:16Speaker 1: up by Stephen interviewing the company's dietitian about his fasting stunt.
- 40:22Speaker 7: What else am I going to experience through this?
- 40:23Speaker 9: It's obviously headaches, fatigue, really low energy.
- 40:27Speaker 7: Okay, so what you're saying is, should I do this
- 40:29Speaker 7: or not?
- 40:29Speaker 9: I think the reality is you're doing it. Focus on
- 40:32Speaker 9: your hydration, drink plenty of Hyro, and let's get those
- 40:36Speaker 9: thousand customers.
- 40:37Speaker 7: Over to you guys. Please save me. Head to the
- 40:39Speaker 7: website now and order so I can start drinking more
- 40:42Speaker 7: than just this.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I was shocked when I watched this video. I can't
- 40:48Speaker 1: believe he was able to get a nutritionist to say
- 40:51Speaker 1: that it was okay for him to be consuming just
- 40:54Speaker 1: water and Hyro for 21 days. This makes me lose
- 40:59Speaker 1: any trust in the so-called scientific claims made by this product.
- 41:03Speaker 1: This just seems insane to me. I mean, he's clearly
- 41:05Speaker 1: using shock value to sell products. I do question, though,
- 41:10Speaker 1: what type of effect Sarah's Day has had on this
- 41:12Speaker 1: company if they thought it would take 21 days. for
- 41:16Speaker 1: him to get 39 orders through. Now it's that time
- 41:20Speaker 1: of the week where we have our Friday debrief and
- 41:23Speaker 1: I'm going to kick us off. I have a hire
- 41:25Speaker 1: to share with you guys. So Jack, he is nearly
- 41:28Speaker 1: eight months old and he just started crawling this week.
- 41:31Speaker 1: And I have heard this is where things get serious.
- 41:34Speaker 1: So you're having to move everything. You're having to baby
- 41:37Speaker 1: proof the house, you're running around, but it was such
- 41:40Speaker 1: a joy to see him crawl. And it's so funny
- 41:42Speaker 1: because It's not his toys that he's crawling towards. It's
- 41:46Speaker 1: everything that he's not meant to have. So it's my
- 41:48Speaker 1: phone or it's the dog toy. He actually first crawled
- 41:51Speaker 1: to my Frank Green water bottle and he tried to
- 41:54Speaker 1: grab it. I'm like, this is nearly as big as you.
- 41:56Speaker 1: He's pretty fast as well because he's only been doing
- 41:58Speaker 1: it for a couple of days. I couldn't believe the
- 42:00Speaker 1: speed he was taking on the carpet. I love that
- 42:02Speaker 1: this is your high. Will it suddenly turn into your
- 42:04Speaker 1: low when he starts causing drama?
- 42:07Speaker 7: Well, probably.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I also have a question for our listeners who are mums.
- 42:11Speaker 1: So Jack is at an age where his wake windows
- 42:14Speaker 1: aren't as dominated by his feeds anymore. So I've got
- 42:16Speaker 1: a lot of time to play with him and we
- 42:20Speaker 1: go and play with the toys that he got for Christmas,
- 42:22Speaker 1: but I'm personally getting bored of them. And I'm thinking
- 42:25Speaker 1: he probably is too. I have seen a few TikTok
- 42:28Speaker 1: videos where it shows activities for you to do with
- 42:30Speaker 1: your kids. So I filled up this big saucepan and
- 42:33Speaker 1: put blocks in it and it was all well and
- 42:35Speaker 1: good until he tried to pour it over. Does anyone
- 42:37Speaker 1: have any activities that take up a lot of time
- 42:40Speaker 1: that are enjoyable for not only Jack but for me?
- 42:42Speaker 1: Because it's getting to a point where I'm like, I
- 42:43Speaker 1: don't know what to do. It's funny you ask that
- 42:45Speaker 1: because I'm on kitten talk because I've got a new kitten, Winnie,
- 42:48Speaker 1: and I've seen all these people have been doing all
- 42:50Speaker 1: these enrichment activities with their cats which make me feel
- 42:53Speaker 1: so guilty. Like I didn't even know that was a thing. Yeah,
- 42:55Speaker 1: it does make you feel guilty because you're like, hang on,
- 42:58Speaker 1: while I've been focusing on him trying to crawl, have
- 43:00Speaker 1: I been doing enough language activities with him? Like it's
- 43:03Speaker 1: just never-ending. Yeah. My Friday share is a bit of
- 43:06Speaker 1: a different one to yours, Kate. Not so wholesome. I
- 43:09Speaker 1: had a very scary experience at a Hungry Jack's drive-thru
- 43:12Speaker 1: on Saturday night. Did someone drop a whopper? Remember that
- 43:17Speaker 1: joke that went through primary school? Well, basically, it was
- 43:20Speaker 1: around 11 o'clock at night, right before Hungry Jack's closed.
- 43:24Speaker 1: I was actually picking my partner something up. This wasn't
- 43:26Speaker 1: a pregnancy craving. And I was in the car by myself.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And I made my order and I sat in the
- 43:33Speaker 1: drive-thru for 10 minutes whilst I was waiting for the
- 43:36Speaker 1: car in front of me. Now, the car in front
- 43:39Speaker 1: of me had a husband and wife, I think, in
- 43:42Speaker 1: their 40s in there. And I thought that they knew
- 43:44Speaker 1: the girl at the front desk, at the front window.
- 43:46Speaker 1: They seemed to be engaged in some sort of conversation.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I thought that they were smiling. It turns out they
- 43:52Speaker 1: were actually yelling at this poor girl. Now, when it
- 43:55Speaker 1: got to about 15 minutes that I was still in
- 43:58Speaker 1: this line, I was like, what the hell is going on?
- 44:00Speaker 1: Am I going to get my food? Am I going
- 44:01Speaker 1: to get out of here? Because that was the only exit. Anyway,
- 44:05Speaker 1: whilst I was waiting, this teenage girl from Hungry Jacks,
- 44:08Speaker 1: one of the workers, she came out and delivered me
- 44:11Speaker 1: my meal on foot and explained that the car in
- 44:14Speaker 1: front of me was abusing them over wanting to get
- 44:18Speaker 1: a refund. So did she bring out the credit card
- 44:20Speaker 1: thing too? No, I'd already paid by this stage. I
- 44:22Speaker 1: was just waiting for my food. And she said, oh, look,
- 44:24Speaker 1: they're not going to move. So you might just want
- 44:26Speaker 1: to reverse out. And I had just recently got my
- 44:28Speaker 1: car fixed and there was no way I was going
- 44:30Speaker 1: to be reversing out of the drive-thru. So I said,
- 44:33Speaker 1: do you reckon I could just toot them and it
- 44:34Speaker 1: might encourage them to leave? Sophie hasn't added that she
- 44:37Speaker 1: had me on the other end of the phone. And
- 44:39Speaker 1: I'm like, just be careful. You never know how people
- 44:42Speaker 1: are going to react. I just wanted to get home
- 44:44Speaker 1: by then. So I tried to do a friendly toot,
- 44:46Speaker 1: you know, when it's not a full, it's a friendly toot.
- 44:49Speaker 1: It did not sound friendly from my end of the phone.
- 44:51Speaker 1: And they didn't react. So then I called out the window. sorry,
- 44:54Speaker 1: do you mind moving? I can't get out. Anyway, the
- 44:58Speaker 1: woman tries to open her door. She couldn't, she was
- 45:00Speaker 1: so close to the drive-through window. The husband throws his
- 45:05Speaker 1: door back before coming over to my car. He then
- 45:09Speaker 1: runs over to the front window, starts abusing the girl
- 45:11Speaker 1: some more, storms over to my car window. And my
- 45:16Speaker 1: heart was pounding out of my chest. I thought he
- 45:18Speaker 1: was going to punch the bonnet of my car and
- 45:20Speaker 1: he goes, what do you want? And I said, oh,
- 45:23Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I'm actually just trying to get out
- 45:24Speaker 1: of the drive-thru. You guys are blocking me. And he's like,
- 45:26Speaker 1: these people are assholes. And starts complaining about his meal
- 45:30Speaker 1: and that they didn't give him a refund. And I
- 45:31Speaker 1: was thinking, sir, you were the asshole. I did not
- 45:34Speaker 1: say anything. At this point, if I were you, I
- 45:35Speaker 1: would have been like, I'm just a pregnant lady trying
- 45:38Speaker 1: to get Hungry Jacks. Well, I actually thought I was
- 45:40Speaker 1: going to get punched in the face. Thankfully, he then
- 45:43Speaker 1: says to me, okay, we'll move. But just want to
- 45:45Speaker 1: know that we've called the police over this Hungry Jacks.
- 45:48Speaker 1: The poor police having to deal with incidents like this.
- 45:51Speaker 1: They do not earn enough money. This other poor teenage
- 45:53Speaker 1: worker from Hungry Jack's literally ran out to see if
- 45:56Speaker 1: I was okay because she thought that the man might
- 45:58Speaker 1: have physically attacked me. Anyway, this was all for a
- 46:02Speaker 1: meal that wasn't even for me. It was very traumatizing.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I left completely sweaty and shaking. So do you no
- 46:09Speaker 1: longer have cravings for Hungry Jack's now as part of
- 46:11Speaker 1: your pregnancy? I've never had Hungry Jack's cravings. I'm a
- 46:14Speaker 1: McDonald's girl through and through. So I was very annoyed.
- 46:17Speaker 1: I rang up my husband and was like, God, I've
- 46:19Speaker 1: been through shit to get this meal for you. Well,
- 46:21Speaker 1: I've got a recommendation for you guys. It is a
- 46:24Speaker 1: TV show and it's for anyone else who loves crime drama.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So it is an old one. It's a 2013 series
- 46:31Speaker 1: called The Fall, but it is a lot like the
- 46:33Speaker 1: show Broadchurch, which I got you guys onto. So it
- 46:36Speaker 1: stars actress Gillian Anderson. You'll know her from Sex Ed.
- 46:40Speaker 1: She also played Margaret Thatcher in The Crown and she
- 46:43Speaker 1: was in The X-Files. She is amazing. Anything she's in,
