- 19:48Speaker 6: Govender headlined quite a few festivals here of the last
- 19:52Speaker 6: year or two, you know, but what we have not
- 19:55Speaker 6: seen yet from him is a tour. You get the
- 19:59Speaker 6: feeling that that's probably coming.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Here in the next year or so.
- 20:03Speaker 6: He certainly built his brand in that type of a
- 20:05Speaker 6: way and looking to see how this pans out for
- 20:08Speaker 6: him and folks. Let's now bring in Daniel Johnson from
- 20:13Speaker 6: the UN News Department, who brings us a news report
- 20:16Speaker 6: every Monday morning.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Here. How are you, Daniel?
- 20:19Speaker 27: This is UN News Today with me Daniel Johnson. The
- 20:22Speaker 27: headlines as a ceasefire begins in Lebanon, the WHO highlights
- 20:27Speaker 27: massive health needs created by weeks of devastating Israeli bombardment. Meanwhile,
- 20:33Speaker 27: in Gaza, new data shows the terrible toll of the
- 20:36Speaker 27: war on women and girls, and an alert from the
- 20:40Speaker 27: UNHCR that a record number of desperate Rahinga refugees died
- 20:44Speaker 27: at sea in twenty twenty five will have the details.
- 20:51Speaker 27: As a ten days ceasefar between Israel and Lebanon began
- 20:55Speaker 27: on Friday, the UN Sectary General urged all parties to
- 20:58Speaker 27: respect it and expressed hope that it could lead to
- 21:01Speaker 27: further negotiations. The UN World Health Organization WHO also welcomed
- 21:07Speaker 27: the ceasefar, as it highlighted severe pressure on severely strained
- 21:11Speaker 27: medical services. Since early March, the agency has verified one
- 21:15Speaker 27: hundred and thirty nine attacks on healthcare in Lebanon, which
- 21:19Speaker 27: have left ninety one dead and injured hundreds more. WHO
- 21:23Speaker 27: says that hospitals treating the wounded are operating at near
- 21:26Speaker 27: full capacity, with thousands of trauma cases, stretching supplies and
- 21:31Speaker 27: leaving critical gaps in essential medicines. In total, more than
- 21:35Speaker 27: two thousand, one hundred people have been reported killed since
- 21:39Speaker 27: the escalation began between Hesbula fighters and the Israeli military
- 21:43Speaker 27: in early March. The war in Gaza has inflicted a
- 21:47Speaker 27: far higher toll on women and girls than in previous
- 21:51Speaker 27: conflicts in the Palestinian enclave, with more than thirty eight
- 21:54Speaker 27: thousand killed by Israeli military operations there. Since Hamas led
- 21:59Speaker 27: terror attacks in Israel sparked the war in October twenty
- 22:02Speaker 27: twenty three. UN Women said on Friday the overall total
- 22:06Speaker 27: includes at least twenty two thousand women and sixteen thousand girls.
- 22:11Speaker 27: It amounts to an average of at least forty seven
- 22:14Speaker 27: women and girls killed every day. The agency's Sofia Kaltorp,
- 22:18Speaker 27: chief of Humanitarian Action at UN Women, told journalists in Geneva.
- 22:23Speaker 28: There is a complete lack of most services. In particular,
- 22:26Speaker 28: I would say those services that needed for women. That
- 22:29Speaker 28: is secution, reproductive health and rights. That's access to sanitary paths,
- 22:33Speaker 28: that's access to the most basics. I mean when I
- 22:35Speaker 28: was insa in November, I met two women who had
- 22:38Speaker 28: to deliver on the street because they were no transportations
- 22:41Speaker 28: to bring them to any functional hospitals.
- 22:44Speaker 27: Six months since the Seas five began in Gaza, women
- 22:48Speaker 27: and girls continue to face severe and persistent risks, as
- 22:51Speaker 27: humanitarian needs remain critical and recovery conditions remain fragile. This
- 22:57Speaker 27: war has reshaped families. Miss Cultorp insisted, pointing to the
- 23:01Speaker 27: tens of thousands of households that are now headed by
- 23:04Speaker 27: women whose husbands have been killed. They are sustaining their
- 23:07Speaker 27: families without income, without support or access to essential services,
- 23:12Speaker 27: The UN women officials stressed. According to the Gharzen Health authorities,
- 23:17Speaker 27: more than seventy two thousand, three hundred Palestinians have been
- 23:20Speaker 27: killed in the Strip and at least one hundred and
- 23:23Speaker 27: seventy two thousand injured since October twenty twenty three. In
- 23:27Speaker 27: twenty twenty five, nearly nine hundred Rahinga refugees were reported
- 23:32Speaker 27: missing or dead in the Anderman Sea and Bay of Bengal,
- 23:35Speaker 27: making it the deadliest year on record in South and
- 23:38Speaker 27: Southeast Asia. The UN Refugee Agency UNHCR said on Friday,
- 23:44Speaker 27: some five thousand Rahinga refugees are believed to have drowned
- 23:47Speaker 27: at sea over approximately the last decade. UNHCR said that
- 23:51Speaker 27: this makes the Anderman s and the Bay of Bengal
- 23:54Speaker 27: an unmarked graveyard for thousands of desperate Rhinga refugees with
- 23:58Speaker 27: more his agency spokespan Saint Babar Balloch, speaking in Geneva.
- 24:02Speaker 29: No one would put their family on a risky boat
- 24:07Speaker 29: knowing that the chances of survival are really law if
- 24:11Speaker 29: the sense of desperation is not there, if there is
- 24:14Speaker 29: no hope. We fear more people may lose their lives.
- 24:17Speaker 27: In twenty seventeen, hundreds of thousands of Rahinga fled Myanmar
- 24:20Speaker 27: for Bangladesh amid persecution characterized as a textbook example of
- 24:25Speaker 27: ethnic cleansing by former YOU and Human Rights chief zaidrad
- 24:29Speaker 27: al Hassein. Just this week, UNHCR reported news that hundreds
- 24:33Speaker 27: of Rahinga were missing, believe drowned after a shipwreck in
- 24:36Speaker 27: the Anderman Sea on the eighth of April off the
- 24:39Speaker 27: coast of the country, hosting many from the persecuted minority Bangladesh.
- 24:43Speaker 27: The agency said that although most Rahingia refugees want to
- 24:47Speaker 27: return to Myanmar, ongoing conflict, persecution and the absence of
- 24:51Speaker 27: citizenship prospects lead them with little hope of this being possible.
- 24:55Speaker 27: Daniel Johnson UN News.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Thank you so much for that, Daniel.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Daniel appears every week here as part of our partnership
- 25:04Speaker 6: with the u N News right here on the bridge
- 25:06Speaker 6: every Monday morning. Yeah, fobbs, it's the album of the
- 25:11Speaker 6: week last week. We've decided to dive into it today.
- 25:16Speaker 6: This is the second song of the four songs off
- 25:19Speaker 6: of shob ZP and my favorite.
- 25:21Speaker 4: This song is called Bounce.
- 25:26Speaker 13: Say I'm handy now they're not good.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Friend, Please keep God dam.
- 25:50Speaker 13: Bad knocking up, look it up you know Angela damn Ja.

- 26:47Speaker 26: Jay friendly Bark.
- 26:54Speaker 31: Okay, we've been waiting for this record.
- 27:07Speaker 4: We really have.
- 27:08Speaker 6: It's called Bounce. The whole EP called Chapter four. Great
- 27:12Speaker 6: work by Shub as usual. That track my favorite. Love
- 27:18Speaker 6: the energy, love the delivery, and brings out a little
- 27:21Speaker 6: bit more of a playful side of Shub's there and
- 27:23Speaker 6: the lyrics for sure, and adds well to that four
- 27:26Speaker 6: song EP. We'll get into the other two songs. Yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 6: very shortly. This song is Audije Sing's latest.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Check this out.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Tell me what you think?
- 27:40Speaker 12: Shoot those it bet.

- 40:25Speaker 6: Now it is a great time for us to invite
- 40:27Speaker 6: Ruby Bossy to the show.
- 40:30Speaker 4: How are you today, Ruby.
- 40:32Speaker 40: I'm good, Sammy, how are you?
- 40:33Speaker 4: We're doing all right. It's been an interesting Monday we've
- 40:36Speaker 4: been of course.
- 40:37Speaker 38: You know.
- 40:38Speaker 6: We're looking across the news today and I'm seeing all
- 40:41Speaker 6: kinds of different stuff going on in places like Brampton.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Ruby, you've got the update on this.
- 40:46Speaker 20: I do.
- 40:47Speaker 40: I have an update on this, and I do have sources.
- 40:50Speaker 40: I did tell me a lot of information. There's a
- 40:52Speaker 40: Brampton story that I did post out there. Now what's
- 40:55Speaker 40: the you know, what they're showing online is that there
- 40:57Speaker 40: was a person forty sixtures old out of Brampton on
- 41:00Speaker 40: that stabbed his mother and his sister. From what I
- 41:04Speaker 40: found out and says nowhere out in the news. Yet
- 41:07Speaker 40: his name is Sony forty six years old and it
- 41:11Speaker 40: was his aunt and his cousin that they lived with,
- 41:15Speaker 40: and he did stab them. And there was other issues
- 41:17Speaker 40: that were going on in the family, so this could
- 41:19Speaker 40: be drug related. Most likely he was arrested, he did
- 41:23Speaker 40: leave a scene, he was taken to custody. But what
- 41:25Speaker 40: I have found out this is not yet anywhere on
- 41:28Speaker 40: the news that he is not public right now, right
- 41:31Speaker 40: not public information. And I got this, you know, directly
- 41:33Speaker 40: from a source, a very good friend that grew up
- 41:36Speaker 40: with him, saying that he was a bright kid. You know,
- 41:40Speaker 40: he had a computer in nineteen ninety two, he was
- 41:42Speaker 40: on the internet back then. Very smart. Only son of
- 41:46Speaker 40: the father. And he was arrested, taken to custody, and
- 41:49Speaker 40: he has most likely either died from a heart attack
- 41:52Speaker 40: or a drug withdrawal. And I want to really shed
- 41:55Speaker 40: light on mental health. Mental health is a big, big issue, guy,
- 42:00Speaker 40: is you know that we don't focus on we don't
- 42:02Speaker 40: talk about these issues, and people end up going you know,
- 42:05Speaker 40: the wrong direction. And with the story, you know, a stabbing,
- 42:09Speaker 40: something happened, he did this. They were in critical condition.
- 42:12Speaker 40: Now they are stable. But it's just very heartbreaking when
- 42:15Speaker 40: I talk to people and they show me that Ruby,
- 42:18Speaker 40: I knew this person. It was a very good kid
- 42:20Speaker 40: and you know went down the wrong road.
- 42:22Speaker 6: Yeah somehow, So you know, Ruby, It's interesting because you
- 42:25Speaker 6: know what I really wanted to refer to as well,
- 42:27Speaker 6: in addition to the story, is that you know, Ruby,
- 42:30Speaker 6: you you actually get contacted quite a bit by people
- 42:34Speaker 6: that listen to your stories and through some sort of
- 42:37Speaker 6: proximity to the story, end up sharing information with you.
- 42:40Speaker 6: And that's an interesting line of communication that you've developed
- 42:43Speaker 6: out there with the public.
- 42:45Speaker 40: I have, I have, It's been happening for a gosha
- 42:47Speaker 40: a while now. So there was another story out of
- 42:50Speaker 40: again Toronto area where the person that is now in
- 42:53Speaker 40: custody contacted me as well. So I get calls from
- 42:57Speaker 40: all kinds of people. I never know who's listening to me.
- 43:00Speaker 40: When I put those alerts out right FBI searching for
- 43:02Speaker 40: so and so or Canada wide alert, I get contacted
- 43:06Speaker 40: from those people as well, saying hey, you know I
- 43:09Speaker 40: didn't do then, and I can't touch that story any further.
- 43:12Speaker 40: But it's nice to see that people have that trust
- 43:15Speaker 40: where they can send you a message, where they can
- 43:16Speaker 40: contact you, tell you what they know and talk about
- 43:20Speaker 40: their feelings, and that's what we're really lacking right now.
- 43:22Speaker 40: You know, these stories all mean something to me, every
- 43:25Speaker 40: single story, every single post I put out there. It's
- 43:28Speaker 40: always to see, Okay, what have we learned from this?
- 43:31Speaker 40: How can I make a difference?
- 43:32Speaker 15: Guys?
- 43:33Speaker 40: And it's for everybody out there mental help. You know,
- 43:36Speaker 40: people don't ask for help when they need it. Okay,
- 43:39Speaker 40: So mental illness is a big issue and we're willing
- 43:42Speaker 40: to address.
- 43:42Speaker 4: But Ruby, thank you so much for joining us.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Thank you for all that you do, thank you for
- 43:48Speaker 6: getting the information from our community out there, and thank
- 43:51Speaker 6: you so much for sharing today's information.
- 43:54Speaker 40: Thank you, Samine. It's nice to be here.

- 46:53Speaker 41: We begin the week with climate forecasting at home and
- 46:55Speaker 41: economic tensions abroad, both carrying major implications for South Asia.
- 46:59Speaker 41: Met you logical agencies have released updated monsoon projections suggesting
- 47:03Speaker 41: uneven rainfall distribution across several Indian states. While overall rainfall
- 47:07Speaker 41: levels may remain near average, experts warn that erratic patterns,
- 47:11Speaker 41: including heavier bursts and longer dry spells, could affect crop timing.
- 47:14Speaker 41: Agriculture still supports nearly half of India's workforce. Irregular rainfall
- 47:18Speaker 41: impacts food prices, rural income, and export supply chains for
- 47:21Speaker 41: South Asians. Worldwide, monsoon season isn't just weather, its economic stability,
- 47:25Speaker 41: food security, and family livelihoods. Meanwhile, renewed tariff discussions between
- 47:29Speaker 41: the US and China are raising concerns about another wave
- 47:32Speaker 41: of global supply chain distributions. As tensions resurface, countries like India, Vietnam,
- 47:37Speaker 41: and Bangladesh are positioning themselves as alternative manufacturing hubs. Analysts
- 47:41Speaker 41: say this could accelerate China plus one diversification strategies for
- 47:45Speaker 41: South Asian exorders. This moment presents both opportunity and risk.
- 47:49Speaker 41: Weather shapes harvests, trade shapes opportunity. South Asia sits at
- 47:52Speaker 41: the intersection of both forces this week, but tell us
