- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, thank you for joining me once again today.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: I am in Deuteronomy chapter 1.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you to join me there if you would.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about times or maybe a particular time right now that you and I have dwelt long enough.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about places, not all of them bad, but places sometimes in mindsets and failures and things that we need to move on from.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the Lord always calls his people on to bigger and better things.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't mean that our name is going to be up in the lights, that doesn't mean we're going to be up on the marquee, that doesn't mean we're going to be gathering adulation to ourselves, but we can always have a better relationship with him.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I found for me, sometimes I can put myself in a sort of DMV Christianity.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, I take a number and I just sit down.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: and wait for them to call my name over the loudspeaker.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: I wait for God to hit me upside the head with this is the next thing you're supposed to do.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, at the DMV, they don't like you to even have cell phones these days, all those types of things, and it's supposed to sit there quietly, and just, I guess, ponder your own inevitable demise.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure what you're supposed to do, and I say that tongue-in-cheek, actually.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Most of the DMVs around me are not too bad, shout out to a Pontiac Illinois DMV, but in all seriousness, they have a rep for a reason.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because oftentimes we have spent many an hour there and it almost feels unnecessary.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we get really bothered.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what thought I want to convey today as we get in the scripture.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: We get incredibly bothered when other people waste our time.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: But we don't blink an eye when we waste our own time.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: I question if you today is this, have you dwelt long enough?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: We can get granular, we can talk about social media usage, we can talk about how much time you spend flipping on your phone, but let's talk in the bigger picture.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: Long enough.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: What's our text for today?
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to look at due to an enemy chapter number one and look at verse number three due to an enemy one three not that long ago before the beginning of the year actually a few months into last year.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: I
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: started me and doing through the scriptures again.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: I do my best to read my Bible and pray every day and you'll grow grow grow.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes I have a specific Bible reading plan.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I find for me it helps me to have a little bit of a Bible reading plan and I had finished one previously and I wanted to start at the beginning and go through to the end again.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: As a result, I'm not trying to read a set number of chapters a day, but I'm asking God to speak to me.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it'll be a few verses, sometimes it'll be a few chapters.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: But on this particular day, some months ago, I'm much further on now, but I was reading through Deuteronomy.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: I started in chapter one, of course, and I got to verse 3, 4, 5, and then verse number 6 really jumped out of me.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: I want to share this with you Deuteronomy 1, and verse 3, the Bible says, and it came to pass.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: In the 40th year, in the 11th month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake under the children of Israel, according unto all that the Lord had given him in command unto them.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: After he had slain Sihon, the king of the Amir, which dwelt in Hechbond and awed the king of Basin, which dwelt at Ashtoroth and Ed Rhee, on this side Jordan.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: In the land of Moeb, began Moses to declare this law saying, and this is what
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord our God, spake unto us in horrible saying, you have dwelt long enough in this Mount.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then the Bible continues on, God continues speaking to His people, turn you and take your journey and go to the Mount of the Amorites and unto all the places and that continues on and tells these people that people of Israel were there supposed to go, but it begins with telling them.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: You've been long enough where you are right now.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to make some practical application.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I have one thought beyond what I've said so far, but one main thought that around which I want to draw the net today.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Have you dwelt long enough?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: with your failures.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: Have you dwelt long enough with the failures of others?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Are you ready to move on?
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think of X this chapter 32.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Go there with me for just a moment.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to, I want you to see this X this chapter 32, we're talking about the children of Israel.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so we'll keep it in context as some degree.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: X is 32 and verse number 31.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible says this, and Moses returned unto the Lord and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and a have made them gods of gold.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yet now, if that will forgive their sin, and if not, blot me, I pray thee out of thy book which thou hast written.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: You, of course, remember this passage of Scripture, the making of the golden calf back in chapter 31, 32, and Moses even takes the tables of stone, those ten commandments, and breaks them in a fit of rage to some degree disgust with his people.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: And he, as a very meek man, offers to God, don't kill all your people if you need to,
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: God's man is literally up on the mountain talking to God and his people in a little bit of angst and a little bit of impatience.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: They commit an incredibly massive blunder and failure.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: But while there were repercussions while there were consequences while there were scars and
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: can I tell you, friend?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Your decisions in life may lead to repercussions.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: We can choose the choice we cannot choose the consequence.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it could be that failures of the past will leave scars.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: It may even be disqualifying in some areas of service.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: That could well be true.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I can tell you this, and I've said it a multitude of times before.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you have a pulse,
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: God has a purpose for you.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I encourage you to stop having this always me poor mouth attitude and start to move on.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: You've dwell long enough here the Bible tells us.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like the Israelites, individuals may face personal failures.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Couples, husbands and wives, they may face joint failures, churches, kin, face failures of a group even.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the children of Israel, they as a group, messed up, and yet God still used them.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think if I'll be in chapter 3, verse 3, you probably know these two verses, Philippians 3, 13 and 14, brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do, for getting those things which are behind and reaching forth under those things which are before, I press toward
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you're having a difficult time forgetting those things which are behind.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it about time we move on?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it about time we say long enough?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: I would
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: that if God would speak directly to us in an audible voice, there'd be many things he'd want to tell us.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, we do have his book, and it does speak to us, I heard someone say, I want to hear God speak to me out loud, perfect, read the Bible out loud, you'll hear him.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: But all seriousness, of all the things that he could tell us, I believe very likely
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: You've been where you are long enough.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Have you gotten tired of being tired?
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Have you gotten sick of being sick?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned yesterday and continued a little bit today on the broadcast just joking about those different times that you and I have had to wait.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: sometimes that the grocery store.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: And isn't it just the worst when the three or four or five people in front of you, there's a question about what vegetable this is and the poor cashier they're doing their best but they don't know what code to punch in and so we have to ring up produce and they have to come running over.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: but they didn't bring the right vegetable, the right code, when I'm still not sure, we just got to run back over and then all of a sudden there's a caravan of people and you're thinking, I will go find the Comquats.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go find the Kiwis.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: I will go find whatever organic banana this is and tell you what the code is.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: If we can just get moving, I've dwelt here long enough.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: I've got things to do.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've all been there.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe your patience runs longer than mine.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: For the most part, I can do an okay job, and it's honestly funny.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now we have our cell phones.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: Now we have all these different devices to entertain us, but because of them, we've become a little bit more our patience runs thin even quicker because we have this instinct gratification type need and
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: But how tired do you think God is of you dwelling on your failures?
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now, this is not a call to just pray it away, reach your Bible, everything's going to be okay.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: There are scars that may need to be dealt with, and we're going to talk about that more in just a moment, but maybe it's not just your scars.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: My failures annoy me most the time more than other people's, but every once in a while I can get latched on and think if that person would just do this, everything would be, well friend, I'm not God.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: And far be it for me to be a judge.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's time that I or you need to let go of someone else's failure and stop holding over their heads and stop being nailed down and tied down to this circumstance.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: We've dwelt here long enough.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe just maybe as we conclude, you're dealing with something that truthfully.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it wasn't even your failure.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was, though.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: But there's trauma.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: There is difficulty.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's something.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's aching.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's annoying.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it absolutely.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Not just drives you up a wall, but it eats you up.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Can I ask your friend?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear from you.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love if you'd reach out to me.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to in a small way if I can be a help or refer you to some folks that can be an even bigger help.
