- Lucas: Hello again, and welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo, the show where we make Danish a little less mysterious, one small step at a time. Luna: Exactly. And today, we're stepping into something practical. Sorry, I couldn't resist. We're talking about shoes. Lucas: Ohh, good one. And actually, before we dive in, you know what? If today's episode helps you make real progress with Danish, that's all we ever hope for. And if you ever feel like supporting the show so it stays ad-free, the link is in the description. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Just a thought. Luna: Yeah, absolutely. It keeps the lights on and the money in our pockets. But okay, shoes. I need a new pair of sneakers, so I'm ready. Lucas: Perfect. So, walking into a Danish shoe shop, the first thing you might want to say is, 'Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko.' That means, 'I would like to try on those shoes.' Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. So that's 'I would like' and then 'try' and 'those shoes'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Jeg vil gerne' is that polite 'I would like', and 'prøve' is 'to try', and 'de sko' is 'those shoes'. Let's say it together: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Good. Now, the shop assistant will likely ask you, 'Hvilken størrelse bruger du?' That means, 'What size do you wear?' Luna: Hvilken størrelse bruger du? So 'size' is 'størrelse'? That sounds a bit like 'størrelse'. Lucas: Yes, 'størrelse' – size. And 'bruger' is 'wear' or 'use'. So, 'Hvilken størrelse bruger du?' Try it. Luna: Hvilken størrelse bruger du? I think I've got that. Lucas: Great. And your answer could be, 'Jeg bruger størrelse 40.' I wear size 40. It's simple: 'Jeg bruger' plus the size. Luna: Jeg bruger størrelse 40. That's easy, because I actually do wear a 40. Lucas: Then you're all set. Now, you try them on, and if they fit perfectly, you say, 'De passer perfekt.' They fit perfectly. Luna: De passer perfekt. I love the sound of that. 'Passer' is 'fit', right? Lucas: Exactly. And then, if you're happy, you say, 'Jeg tager dem.' I'll take them. And that's how you end up walking out with new shoes. Luna: Jeg tager dem. This is great. Let's do a quick scene. I walk in, I say, 'Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko.' The assistant says, 'Hvilken størrelse bruger du?' I say, 'Jeg bruger størrelse 40.' I try them on, 'De passer perfekt.' And then I say, 'Jeg tager dem.' Lucas: Perfect. You just bought yourself some shoes in Danish. And now, a little challenge for you at home. Imagine you're in a shop. You see a pair of boots. What would you say to the assistant? Luna: Oh, I'd say, 'Jeg vil gerne prøve de støvler.' Lucas: Excellent. You just added a new word, 'støvler' – boots. But today, we're focusing on the essentials. Let's do one more listen and repeat, and this time really pay attention to the flow. Lucas: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Hvilken størrelse bruger du? Luna: Hvilken størrelse bruger du? Lucas: Jeg bruger størrelse 40. Luna: Jeg bruger størrelse 40. Lucas: De passer perfekt. Luna: De passer perfekt. Lucas: Jeg tager dem. Luna: Jeg tager dem. Lucas: And there you have it. Five phrases that will get you through any shoe shop in Denmark. Remember to practice them out loud, maybe pretend you're shopping for shoes in Danish. It's fun. Luna: It really is. And even if you're not shopping, you can use the same pattern for clothes, like 'Jeg vil gerne prøve den trøje' – I would like to try that sweater. Lucas: Nice touch. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Next time, we'll take another step into the Danish language. Until then, keep practicing. Hej hej. Luna: Hej hej.
