- 0:13Speaker 1: What's up, my fellow earthlings. It is La La mother
- 0:17Speaker 1: effing kent with brand another week, another week, and I
- 0:23Speaker 1: watched the news and it sends me into a hole
- 0:25Speaker 1: because I hear one week like, oh bars are opening.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh shit, young people aren't taking COVID seriously. So we're
- 0:31Speaker 1: back in the red duck for cover.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, what's crazy is? I mean, you just knew eventually
- 0:39Speaker 2: that the congregating of mass amounts of people at bars
- 0:45Speaker 2: and beaches, eventually with no distancing, was going to create
- 0:49Speaker 2: a problem. Now Florida had a spike, a single day spike,
- 0:53Speaker 2: I think, and I know you don't like numbers law,
- 0:55Speaker 2: but I think I think it was like tim how
- 0:57Speaker 2: about eight thousand? It was crazy, single day not good,
- 1:01Speaker 2: not good good. And so now our governor has shut
- 1:05Speaker 2: down all bars, and our mayors shut down Our mayor
- 1:08Speaker 2: and governor shut down all bars in Los Angeles again.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And here's the thing, And I'm gonna be really transparent here.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I really don't give a shit about the bars. What
- 1:17Speaker 2: I give a ship is that I feel bad for
- 1:19Speaker 2: the business owners of these bars. Like that's what breaks
- 1:22Speaker 2: my heart. It's not that I care that we can't
- 1:24Speaker 2: go to a bar and have a drink, because you
- 1:25Speaker 2: know what, I could sit in my house and have
- 1:27Speaker 2: a cocktail. What pisses me off and what sucks is
- 1:30Speaker 2: that these people are struggling in their small you know, businesses.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And I know that we've all struggled, but but here
- 1:38Speaker 2: you the bars just got a chance to reopen and
- 1:41Speaker 2: now they're closed. So this is you know, I'm making
- 1:44Speaker 2: light of it, but it's not funny. It's it's catastrophic.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I just want to say this. I have a couple
- 1:51Speaker 2: of friends that own small business bars, very very in
- 1:55Speaker 2: different parts of the country, and they were just figuring
- 1:58Speaker 2: out how to open and pay the bills just with
- 2:01Speaker 2: the limited seating they could have, and now some of
- 2:04Speaker 2: them are getting shut down again. So I just don't know.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I know it only ends when there's a vaccine. I
- 2:10Speaker 2: know it only ends when we bend the curve completely.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But I just my heart bleeds for these small business
- 2:19Speaker 2: owners because I just don't know how they're going to
- 2:23Speaker 2: Hopefully they get more loans. You know, well, the Lakers
- 2:27Speaker 2: don't take the loans from the small businesses.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Like right, I qualified for this and I'm a complete
- 2:35Speaker 1: dud when it comes to all of this. So it's like,
- 2:37Speaker 1: it's like I read, you know, a pandemic and what
- 2:41Speaker 1: happens to the economy for dummies. That's where I'm coming from.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But I qualified for that, laking No, it's what I
- 2:49Speaker 1: should write. I qualified that, like the book.
- 2:53Speaker 3: No, shut up?
- 2:54Speaker 1: Can I please get a thought out for five seconds?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Sure? Did your wife talk to you this one?
- 3:00Speaker 1: We don't ask him that, all right? I qualified for
- 3:03Speaker 1: the thirty thousand dollars, all right that you get to
- 3:07Speaker 1: pay employees. I'm my employee. So I had my conscience
- 3:13Speaker 1: set in and I was like, Okay, let's just say
- 3:16Speaker 1: they only have thirty grand left to give to someone
- 3:19Speaker 1: who needs to pay their employees, and I choose to
- 3:22Speaker 1: take it to pay myself. I didn't feel right about that,
- 3:24Speaker 1: so I declined, gave it to someone else.
- 3:28Speaker 2: That's the right thing to do. And I want to
- 3:29Speaker 2: tell you something else. You know, it's sad because there
- 3:32Speaker 2: was a lot of abuse of the loans and there
- 3:36Speaker 2: are a lot of businesses out there that and Alex
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know this. There are a lot of business out
- 3:39Speaker 2: there that did not deserve the level of loan that
- 3:42Speaker 2: people were taking. And it's really crazy. And I do
- 3:45Speaker 2: hope that the people that took it, that didn't need it,
- 3:48Speaker 2: or abused it and took numbers they shouldn't have taken,
- 3:51Speaker 2: are held account They apparently hopefully will be.
- 3:53Speaker 4: There's a massive class action lawsuit against all of these
- 3:56Speaker 4: banks that have done that, headed up by an attorney
- 3:58Speaker 4: friend of mine. As a matter of fact, it is
- 4:00Speaker 4: going to be a huge class.
- 4:01Speaker 2: You'd like to give him a shout out, so we.
- 4:03Speaker 4: All Brian Poulter shout out my friend, I'd do justice
- 4:07Speaker 4: for us.
- 4:07Speaker 2: All.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I think that's great. By the way, I think that's
- 4:09Speaker 2: great because I've been wondering, like, when is that going
- 4:12Speaker 2: to happen, because you know that eventually the fallout is
- 4:15Speaker 2: going to happen. And and these people that did take
- 4:18Speaker 2: these incredible amounts of money that did not need it,
- 4:22Speaker 2: you know, they should be held accountable. And I really
- 4:24Speaker 2: hope that. I know they're looking at another round of
- 4:26Speaker 2: financing and loans, and I really hope that the people
- 4:29Speaker 2: that did not get or did not get enough, or
- 4:31Speaker 2: are basically on their you know, last leg to stand
- 4:36Speaker 2: on with regard to their business, get that money they
- 4:41Speaker 2: desperately need, because we need small businesses in America. We
- 4:44Speaker 2: need them to survive. They are the heartbeat of our
- 4:47Speaker 2: country and I just hope that people get it. So
- 4:50Speaker 2: that's it. That's my take on that, switching gears and
- 4:54Speaker 2: pivoting as.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I like to do it, pivoting to a brighter topic.
- 4:59Speaker 2: This just in now, I what there's something you want
- 5:02Speaker 2: to talk about that I thought was, Oh, oh yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 2: you wanted to you asked me before we went on.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I'm looking at you, got that look on your face again.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Right before we came in here, you said, am I allowed?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Which is funny you asking me, are you allowed to
- 5:17Speaker 2: talk about something? Because the chances of me having any
- 5:20Speaker 2: say over the last four years plus of you not
- 5:24Speaker 2: being allowed to talk about something that I don't want
- 5:26Speaker 2: you to talk about is fucking laughable. So you said
- 5:29Speaker 2: that you're on the baby making hunt right now? Did
- 5:32Speaker 2: you want to bring get up?
- 5:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Rand and I have been bumping uglies trying
- 5:37Speaker 1: to get it pop in. I have been sexually approaching.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Let me wait, let me break down. What approaching means
- 5:49Speaker 2: from you is this is approaching. I'm at the office
- 5:52Speaker 2: and at four o'clock I get a text from Lalla
- 5:54Speaker 2: and it's like, get home. We are having sex tonight.
- 5:59Speaker 2: You are giving me a baby. I'm like, wait, where
- 6:01Speaker 2: did I.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Was looking at my flow app and it had the
- 6:04Speaker 1: circle around it that I know this that indicates that
- 6:07Speaker 1: it is a high chance to get pregnant. Keep in mind,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you know, but what.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Is the flood.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Every single person? Yes, the flow app. I've heard from
- 6:21Speaker 1: so many people like they got pregnant just from like
- 6:25Speaker 1: checking their flow app and doing exactly what it tells
- 6:28Speaker 1: them to do.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 6:29Speaker 1: I'm being dead serious.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I have a question. Go back to the nineteen fifties,
- 6:34Speaker 2: when there were no iPhones. Okay, there was no Internet,
- 6:39Speaker 2: how did people produce babies?
- 6:42Speaker 1: They just had sex?
- 6:43Speaker 2: Like jack rabbits to me, Alex, how do they do
- 6:47Speaker 2: it if they didn't have the.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Doctors were aware of how women ovulate in the field.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly twelve to fourteen days before your next period. Okay,
- 7:01Speaker 1: So I'm in a room full of dudes talking about
- 7:06Speaker 1: menstreul psych By the way.
- 7:09Speaker 2: By the way, how do you think we feel? How
- 7:11Speaker 2: do you think we think feel lucky? We want to
- 7:13Speaker 2: talk about when the NFL is coming back or when
- 7:16Speaker 2: and what is coming back?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Hold on, on, what planet has Randall ever cared when
- 7:22Speaker 1: the NFL is coming back.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Well, when I'm around.
- 7:25Speaker 1: When he's around, guys.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Defend even on sports that I don't even care about.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I'm excited for them to come back because just to
- 7:32Speaker 4: have sports off.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that's something that helps ease the mind by the
- 7:36Speaker 2: way it brings us back to in our minds a
- 7:39Speaker 2: sense of normal, which will never be. But I also
- 7:42Speaker 2: want to say something, you know, I, I uh, I
- 7:46Speaker 2: don't like that statement you just made. When does Randall
- 7:48Speaker 2: have a good ships First of all, my.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Desk on my desk, out of all the things I
- 7:52Speaker 1: just said, that's what he's not a fan of.
- 7:54Speaker 2: He really cares when the Dolphins are doing well, thank you.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Which is never.
- 8:01Speaker 3: But that.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I just want to say, first of all, now I'm
- 8:05Speaker 2: getting upset. First of all, I have Marino's helmet and
- 8:08Speaker 2: I have tons of Dolphin memory. That's bullshit. I do
- 8:10Speaker 2: care about the NFL. I I love the Miami Dolphins.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I'm a diehard dial Dolphin. But I want to say,
- 8:16Speaker 2: when they have sucked for twenty years, what do you
- 8:19Speaker 2: want to do you come out of the gate, they
- 8:21Speaker 2: lose eight games in a row, and what do you
- 8:22Speaker 2: you give up, you quit, But I want to say this.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I have on my god, you're not their coach.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Maybe if you're worth you would do better. I think
- 8:33Speaker 2: they would.
- 8:33Speaker 1: What do we do, guys, We've lost eight games?
- 8:35Speaker 3: We should give up and just quit?
- 8:37Speaker 2: What are you talking about? Fighters? Go home? Fight on
- 8:40Speaker 2: for two more games. I just say, screw it, let's
- 8:42Speaker 2: get a good draft fan. I just want to say
- 8:45Speaker 2: it is important. First of all, the Dolphins. You know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: we've been to Dolphin games together. So I didn't even
- 8:50Speaker 2: know why you say I'm not a diehard Dolphin because
- 8:52Speaker 2: that's disrespectful.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I said you weren't an NFL fan.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Well, if I'm a Dolphin fan, I'm an NFL fan.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I means you're a Dolphin fan.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm really like, come on, this is bullshit. Second of all,
- 9:01Speaker 2: if you look at my desk, which you just saw,
- 9:04Speaker 2: I have my confirmation of my LA Rams season tickets.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So for guys, that's not an NFL fan. I go
- 9:12Speaker 2: to root on two teams. So I've had enough for
- 9:15Speaker 2: this bullshit.
- 9:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:16Speaker 2: You know you're trying to demasculinize me, And okay, I'm
- 9:22Speaker 2: not the biggest sports fan. I probably couldn't tell you.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Wasn't that what happens, Like when you decide to get
- 9:27Speaker 1: engaged and get married, you're just like handing over your
- 9:29Speaker 1: balls to a woman.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, no, you took him like the first week on
- 9:33Speaker 2: night Alex.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Alex looks at me and frowns like, no, he doesn't
- 9:37Speaker 1: have a girlfriend, nor is he married and tim or married.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Shakes his head.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Look at the smile on his face.
- 9:45Speaker 3: He does.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Alex comes to work like he's just had the best
- 9:49Speaker 1: time ever.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, because every weekend Alex having nightclub at his house.
- 9:54Speaker 2: That's true. I hope and he to speakeasy a long
- 9:56Speaker 2: time ago. But don't tell the guy.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Thank god.
- 9:58Speaker 1: You guys get COVID testing once a week. I don't
- 10:01Speaker 1: think i'd come in the office. It's so funny because
- 10:03Speaker 1: I sit here and I'm like, I don't believe it's real.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It's conspiracy. They're trying to control our minds. They no,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I've already said this a million times.
- 10:12Speaker 2: People forgot.
- 10:13Speaker 1: People did not forget. I get multiple DMS about it
- 10:16Speaker 1: a day. But let me clarify. I spew a lot
- 10:19Speaker 1: of dumb shit. You know, that's just who I am.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I should stop, I really should, And I'm learning As
- 10:24Speaker 1: I get older, I feel like once I hit thirty
- 10:27Speaker 1: in a few months, it's going to be like, I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: done state saying stupid shit.
- 10:31Speaker 3: But I am.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Absolutely I am absolutely terrible of COVID nineteen. I have
- 10:38Speaker 1: my vitamins laid out, I got my mask in my car.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I saw everything like I'm scared of it.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I am.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I hope you're scared of it.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I am scared of it.
- 10:47Speaker 2: People are dying every day and getting sick. I know
- 10:49Speaker 2: that you're making jokes. You are the one. Every time
- 10:54Speaker 2: I get in the car and I forget my mask,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I say, do we have masks? And you plot your
- 10:57Speaker 2: purse multiple masks? So you take it very seriously. Well,
- 10:59Speaker 2: I want to you. It's put it to a vote
- 11:02Speaker 2: between alexis.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I treat my life episode stupid.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Shit all in favor that Lala will stop saying stupid ship.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Raise your hand if you believe she's not gonna say
- 11:16Speaker 2: stupid shit.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I'll raise my hand to that. I probably want.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I want. I want the audience to know that nobody
- 11:21Speaker 2: else even casually lifted their hand. You are Lala. Can
- 11:26Speaker 2: whatever is on your mind comes out of your mouth.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Oh that's terrifying.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Unfiltered, and we are all the recipient of that. Okay,
- 11:35Speaker 2: Now what I want to say is this moving on.
- 11:37Speaker 2: The final thing I want to say is tell me
- 11:39Speaker 2: let's go back to the babies for a second and
- 11:40Speaker 2: that sidetracked before, and then we're gonna produce her amazing.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Next guest, what happens if we don't get pregnant next month?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Are you gonna be fine? Or are you gonna be
- 11:50Speaker 2: in a spiral? What's gonna happen?
- 11:52Speaker 1: No, because my guy No told me she was like,
- 11:55Speaker 1: in all actuality, it takes people like a year to
- 12:00Speaker 1: get pregnant. After a year, like we start getting concerned.
- 12:03Speaker 1: She was like, if after six months you're having difficulty
- 12:06Speaker 1: even like, come in and we'll check you both out.
- 12:08Speaker 1: For me, it may be difficult. I mean, as you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: more and more women are having trouble getting pregnant and
- 12:14Speaker 1: it's very sad. I hope that that is not the
- 12:19Speaker 1: case for me. But if it is, we'll deal with
- 12:23Speaker 1: that when it.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Comes to That's what I'm saying. No matter what, we're
- 12:26Speaker 2: going to deal with whatever we get handed to us,
- 12:28Speaker 2: which we always have. But I think that if we
- 12:30Speaker 2: count the hours and days that we're waiting for a pregnancy.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I think that's not a healthy way to live. I
- 12:35Speaker 2: think we no.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Actually, when I asked her, I was like, so, is
- 12:38Speaker 1: there a position that I should be doing God to
- 12:41Speaker 1: help this happen? And she looked at me and she
- 12:44Speaker 1: was like, you should just keep doing whatever feels good,
- 12:47Speaker 1: like have fun, do not just sleep together because you
- 12:50Speaker 1: want to have a baby.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And I was like, no, we're not doing that.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I'm a virgo, so I'm like very organized, and I'm like, today,
- 12:56Speaker 1: we're going to have sex at this time because this
- 12:58Speaker 1: seems like primo ovulation.
- 13:01Speaker 2: And this is what I get to go home to. Everybody.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You're welcome, o God, this is what I get to
- 13:10Speaker 1: go home to. Me spread eagle and lingerie like you're welcome.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You're freaking welcome.
- 13:19Speaker 2: That is it. I'm cutting this conversation. I love being
- 13:22Speaker 2: with you every minute. Whether when we have a baby,
- 13:25Speaker 2: it'll be God's plan. We are going to our friggin guest.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Now, holy shit, good idea.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So who our next guest is.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Our next guest is a very dear friend of mine.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I've known her four years. She goes by the name
- 13:39Speaker 1: of DJ Duffy. You guys may know her from Basketball wives,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and she has transformed her life into something pretty freaking epic.
- 13:48Speaker 1: She's now the DJ for a little rapper named French Montana. Wow,
- 13:54Speaker 1: no big deal.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So let me say something real quick which just makes
- 13:57Speaker 2: us exciting. And to see remember like we had our
- 14:00Speaker 2: serious guests we had on that one week, our political,
- 14:03Speaker 2: you know, connected guests who is phenomenal and I loved
- 14:06Speaker 2: it because neither one ever said how to guess like this.
- 14:09Speaker 2: What makes this guest exciting for me is I know
- 14:12Speaker 2: DJ Duffy only as your close friend, as somebody that
- 14:16Speaker 2: you look up to, somebody that you have collaborated with
- 14:19Speaker 2: on an on.
- 14:20Speaker 1: She she produced my song Boy, which went to number
- 14:24Speaker 1: one on iTunes for EDM, so she's extremely talented.
- 14:27Speaker 2: So what makes this fun for me is I've never
- 14:29Speaker 2: had a conversation with her and I really don't know
- 14:31Speaker 2: much about her. So I am coming from a place
- 14:34Speaker 2: of just pure excited and interest. So this will be,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I think, a fun guest for me because I just
- 14:40Speaker 2: this is this is way more familiar territory in terms
- 14:44Speaker 2: of the music part of it, right, But I have
- 14:47Speaker 2: a lot of questions because I'm just excited to hear
- 14:49Speaker 2: her journey and how she got to where she is.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Me too, So let's take a short break and we
- 14:53Speaker 1: will be back with DJ Duffy. We are back, my love.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We have DJ Duffy on the line.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Hi baby, Hi babe, thanks for having me. I'm so exciting.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Oh my god, thank you for being on the podcast.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I've been so hyped to have you. You have no idea,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you know anything involving la la.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I'm there.
- 15:15Speaker 1: You're the best.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So see we have that in common, Duffy.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Oh Dan, Now I feel all good. I'm flushing, so
- 15:27Speaker 1: duff I know most people are gonna know who you are,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but I find your story so fascinating. And give us,
- 15:36Speaker 1: give us like a snapshot about how you started, what
- 15:40Speaker 1: your life was like when you were a single mom,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and just how it all began for you.
- 15:45Speaker 5: So pretty much, I was a twenty one year old
- 15:50Speaker 5: divorce single mom of a one year old. I married
- 15:54Speaker 5: my high school sweetheart at fifteen, and in one year
- 15:56Speaker 5: we got married, divorced, and had a child.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Hold on timeout, Duffy time, Now you can't just listen.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I thought you were going to blow through, like oh,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I went to school and I did listen and I
- 16:07Speaker 2: was in the keyboard program, and I became a wondering
- 16:09Speaker 2: kid music. You just told me that you got married
- 16:12Speaker 2: and had a child at fifteen.
- 16:14Speaker 1: No, no, no, she met him.
- 16:15Speaker 2: When she was Oh, I don't listen.
- 16:18Speaker 5: High school sweetheart at fifteen. Okay, you know, I played
- 16:22Speaker 5: Division one college basketball. I went to college and then
- 16:24Speaker 5: we got married right after.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah right at college? What college? What college?
- 16:28Speaker 5: I went to the University of Texas at Arlington. It's
- 16:31Speaker 5: a Division one, smaller Division one. We wasn't in Texas
- 16:33Speaker 5: Tech or anything.
- 16:35Speaker 2: D one basketball.
- 16:37Speaker 3: D one basketball.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Oh you're a badass, okay, star setting the stage for me.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Keep it coming, keeping coming.
- 16:42Speaker 5: So I was a communication technology major there. So I
- 16:46Speaker 5: graduated with my degree. I married my high school sweetheart.
- 16:50Speaker 5: We lasted we were together since I was fifteen. We
- 16:52Speaker 5: lasted five months married.
- 16:54Speaker 3: What crazy?
- 16:58Speaker 1: Right?
- 16:58Speaker 2: I love this?
- 17:00Speaker 3: It was crazy.
- 17:00Speaker 5: So, you know, he went to the NFL, and I
- 17:02Speaker 5: guess I really didn't fit in his life anymore, and which.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Was okay, because as you see, it all worked out.
- 17:10Speaker 2: But I think it did. Okay, I think it did
- 17:12Speaker 2: just fine.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Right, So I'm sitting at home and I'm like, Okay,
- 17:17Speaker 5: my whole life. I had planned out since fifteen to
- 17:20Speaker 5: be this NFL wife, and that quickly changed for me,
- 17:24Speaker 5: and I was looking at my one year old and
- 17:26Speaker 5: I was very unhappy working at Enterprise car Rental. I'm like,
- 17:29Speaker 5: I went to college and got this degree and I'm
- 17:32Speaker 5: renting out cars. And I was very just unhappy where
- 17:36Speaker 5: where my life had ended up. And I wasn't gonna
- 17:39Speaker 5: let what happened to me determine my future to be
- 17:42Speaker 5: something unhappy and negative. I decided that day that I
- 17:46Speaker 5: was going to figure out what it was that made
- 17:48Speaker 5: me happy in life and just do it because I
- 17:50Speaker 5: kept hearing this thing, find what you love and find
- 17:53Speaker 5: a passion in life and do it. And it sounds
- 17:56Speaker 5: so simple, but a lot of people are scared to
- 17:59Speaker 5: do it.
- 17:59Speaker 3: They did grow up thinking they know, you have to
- 18:01Speaker 3: have you have a nine to five and you have to.
- 18:03Speaker 5: You know, live in this this straight life, but they
- 18:06Speaker 5: don't follow their dreams. And that's one thing that is
- 18:08Speaker 5: like a passion of mine is for single moms out.
- 18:11Speaker 3: There, if you have a dream, follow it.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Don't let because you know you have a child, or
- 18:15Speaker 5: because life didn't turn out the way you want to
- 18:17Speaker 5: stop you from pursuing and living your dream. And so
- 18:20Speaker 5: that day I bought equipment on Craigslist and I started
- 18:24Speaker 5: this dream of DJ and I taught myself from YouTube.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Oh my god, DJ, Wow, way Dove. Had you known
- 18:34Speaker 1: that you were like into music and wanted to be
- 18:35Speaker 1: a DJ?
- 18:36Speaker 3: Like that made you liked music?
- 18:39Speaker 5: But I didn't know that I had a passion for
- 18:41Speaker 5: actually being in the music industry until I had friends
- 18:44Speaker 5: like Drake and French Montana who were earlier on in
- 18:48Speaker 5: their careers. They weren't who they were now, but they
- 18:50Speaker 5: were people who I knew that I was a fan
- 18:53Speaker 5: of their music. And I would go to the studio
- 18:56Speaker 5: and then there would be girls there, and then there
- 18:58Speaker 5: were girls that were sitting there on their.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Phone, putting on live lass, being cute, maybe having some drinks.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And then this is me.
- 19:03Speaker 5: I'm standing on the board behind the engineer trying to
- 19:06Speaker 5: learn his job.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Wow, that I don't like that hook he just did.
- 19:10Speaker 5: He needs to redo it.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, so you had you have you you are?
- 19:15Speaker 2: You had that musical ability like nature within you. Now,
- 19:19Speaker 2: now here's my question, because I literally cannot carry it
- 19:22Speaker 2: to in a row row row your vote. So here's
- 19:24Speaker 2: my question because obviously I I, you know, being in
- 19:27Speaker 2: the movie business, I know a lot of musical you know, talents,
- 19:30Speaker 2: you know, and all that. I am amazed at the
- 19:33Speaker 2: DJ whole explosion. How does it work? Like, what's a
- 19:37Speaker 2: typical night when you perform? How does it work?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Like?
- 19:41Speaker 2: How do you know what to play?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Not?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Is there is there a like a method to the
- 19:46Speaker 2: madness of being as successful as you are?
- 19:48Speaker 5: Okay, so I tell people that I never know what
- 19:51Speaker 5: I'm going to play until I'm there. Besides my my
- 19:54Speaker 5: set with French Montana, which is normally a set you know,
- 19:58Speaker 5: sixty minutes worth of me music that I'm that we
- 20:01Speaker 5: play all the time.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I know what that is.
- 20:03Speaker 5: But I do a set before he comes out, or
- 20:05Speaker 5: when I do my own DJ gigs, I do two
- 20:07Speaker 5: hours of music on my own and I never know
- 20:10Speaker 5: what it is because I like to fill out the room,
- 20:13Speaker 5: and like a lot of DJs, sometimes I get in
- 20:16Speaker 5: situations where I.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Get booked and I don't know what that crowd is
- 20:19Speaker 3: gonna be, Like, oh that I never know.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Oh, so you adapt, you can adapt like you you
- 20:25Speaker 2: have to adapt, Like if I if I if I book,
- 20:27Speaker 2: if I book, you in Miami, right, and I'm just
- 20:31Speaker 2: like live right, like right, you're gonna play. You're gonna
- 20:35Speaker 2: go in with the intention playing one kind of thing.
- 20:36Speaker 2: But if you show up and the crowd is different
- 20:39Speaker 2: than what you thought, you can adapt on the spot exactly.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And that's what that's what makes you a good DJ.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Because you don't have the ability to adapt in that
- 20:48Speaker 5: room full of people, you're gonna lose.
- 20:50Speaker 3: The crowd and and mess up the whole night. The
- 20:53Speaker 3: DJ really sets the tone of the whole night. You
- 20:56Speaker 3: really have to adjust.
- 20:57Speaker 5: There's been times that I thought that the crowd was
- 21:00Speaker 5: gonna go want one thing, and I play a couple
- 21:02Speaker 5: of songs and I'm not seeing.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Them move, right.
- 21:09Speaker 5: I gotta I gotta switch this up asap because these
- 21:13Speaker 5: people are paying me a lot of money.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So so you really do as a DJ. And obviously
- 21:19Speaker 2: it sounds like an idiot question from my point, but
- 21:22Speaker 2: so you really can read the room, like you could
- 21:24Speaker 2: see when people are really rocking to that music, and
- 21:28Speaker 2: you could also say when they're just not hearing you,
- 21:31Speaker 2: and then you.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Yes, wow, there's a test.
- 21:34Speaker 5: There's a test where as DJs will cut the volume
- 21:37Speaker 5: of the music and if I cut the volume and
- 21:40Speaker 5: I don't hear y'all screaming the words and then screaming
- 21:42Speaker 5: the words. It's just not it.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Oh that's awesome.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Because if you think about it, when you go out,
- 21:50Speaker 1: the music sets the tone for your night, Like Duff,
- 21:53Speaker 1: when I go out, if they're playing like this house music,
- 21:57Speaker 1: whether I'm drunk or sober, like, I know, like this
- 22:01Speaker 1: ain't the spot for me. The music, you know, the
- 22:05Speaker 1: music is everything. So her ability to read the room.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I've seen her DJ many times.
- 22:11Speaker 3: And see this is why I respect.
- 22:12Speaker 5: This is why Diplo is one of my favorite DJs,
- 22:15Speaker 5: and I respect him so much because I remember hearing
- 22:17Speaker 5: him the first time in Vegas, and what I liked
- 22:19Speaker 5: about Diplo is he could play from ed M to
- 22:22Speaker 5: the very very new hip hop that he I wouldn't
- 22:25Speaker 5: even think of DJ like him would know and he
- 22:27Speaker 5: would blend these music.
- 22:28Speaker 3: He would blend pop.
- 22:29Speaker 5: With reggae, with the new electronic and hip hop all
- 22:33Speaker 5: in one set, and he does it seamlessly. And he's
- 22:36Speaker 5: really a DJ that I aspire to one day be
- 22:39Speaker 5: like because the way he can he can move through
- 22:41Speaker 5: the different genres without Michiga beat is why he's a
- 22:45Speaker 5: big DJ that DJ's in all over the world, and
- 22:48Speaker 5: DJs and in Vegas has residencies. He has earned that,
- 22:51Speaker 5: right y, he can keep up a mixture of people happy.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Even in some of it's forty nine years old. Now,
- 22:59Speaker 2: you know when I go out because I have a
- 23:01Speaker 2: lot of friends, you know that own nightclubs in different places.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I think that's a well, a really good point because
- 23:07Speaker 2: like I don't notice it now until you're talking about
- 23:09Speaker 2: it and I'm processing it. But you're right, Like I
- 23:12Speaker 2: go to some clubs and it's just one formount of music,
- 23:15Speaker 2: and I'm like, this is not for me. But when
- 23:17Speaker 2: I go somewhere where they mix it up so it
- 23:20Speaker 2: hits on things I like, right, and then everybody gets
- 23:23Speaker 2: what they want. I think that obviously, that's kind of
- 23:26Speaker 2: what you've learned.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Well.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think with Duff Duff, you're you definitely have kept
- 23:33Speaker 1: the integrity of being a DJ, because a lot of
- 23:37Speaker 1: people out here they're like, oh, I just throw music
- 23:40Speaker 1: together and transition it into a new song. It's basically
- 23:44Speaker 1: like pushing play on an iPod. Like you really you
- 23:47Speaker 1: got your discs set up. I've seen videos on your
- 23:50Speaker 1: Instagram like you and body and la la.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I had to when I first started DJing because of
- 23:56Speaker 5: my look in my image and that I like to
- 23:58Speaker 5: be to dance on the DJ booth, and I had
- 24:01Speaker 5: a curvy body and I was really pretty. No one
- 24:04Speaker 5: wanted to take me serious. No one really thought that
- 24:07Speaker 5: I actually was going to take my career to where
- 24:09Speaker 5: I am now. I had a lot of people say
- 24:11Speaker 5: a lot of negative things about me when I first
- 24:13Speaker 5: started DJing, and I really had to like earn people's respects.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 24:18Speaker 1: They probably looked at you like you should just be
- 24:20Speaker 1: shaking your ass in music videos like a video vixen.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Yeah, they were like, this is a gimmick.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Basically, she's gonna get up here and she's not gonna
- 24:27Speaker 5: be able to DJ. But I've had times like where
- 24:29Speaker 5: I dj' and in Vegas and other big clubs where
- 24:31Speaker 5: there was like this older, you know, older maybe forty
- 24:35Speaker 5: year old DJ that have been DJing for twenty years.
- 24:37Speaker 3: He looks at me and looks like, ha, she's about
- 24:40Speaker 3: to mess the night up.
- 24:41Speaker 5: And in the middle of my set, they always go, wow,
- 24:44Speaker 5: you impressed me.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Wow, Like they always get excited.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Okay, I have a question, So what is the biggest
- 24:51Speaker 2: audience you've ever DJ'ed for that you were freaking out,
- 24:54Speaker 2: because I freak out over two hundred people, what's the biggest.
- 24:58Speaker 5: So French is from Morocco and French has never well
- 25:03Speaker 5: hadn't at this point, had never performed in Morocco. It
- 25:07Speaker 5: was his first time going back to Morocco from when
- 25:09Speaker 5: he left as a child. So performed in front of
- 25:13Speaker 5: literally all of Morocco. I could not see no literally,
- 25:18Speaker 5: I couldn't even tell you how many people were there
- 25:20Speaker 5: because it was free and you could not see passed.
- 25:23Speaker 5: You could not the sea of people. I could not
- 25:26Speaker 5: see passed. And it was powerful because French had then
- 25:28Speaker 5: seen his dad for the first time since sleeping as
- 25:30Speaker 5: a child, and.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Not only that, the king. You had to meet the king.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Before performing on stage, and I was like the king,
- 25:40Speaker 5: it was crazy.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And then might I add the first song?
- 25:44Speaker 5: The audio was messed up and I literally thought that
- 25:47Speaker 5: I was going to pass out because Frind turned and
- 25:51Speaker 5: gave me this look and I was like, French, I
- 25:54Speaker 5: don't know, it's not me and I'm looking at all
- 25:56Speaker 5: these people and the King's family is in the front.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Is that I would pass up my legs.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Felt like I was scared. I thought like I ruined,
- 26:06Speaker 3: were turned.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Would I would lose it? I would. I could not
- 26:11Speaker 2: handle this.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Wait, does be honest when when you fixed it? Of
- 26:15Speaker 1: course you did. But yeah, okay, so I know how
- 26:18Speaker 1: you perform when you're on stage. You're It's the craziest
- 26:21Speaker 1: thing because stuff is not just someone who like sits
- 26:24Speaker 1: behind the DJ booth like she is entertaining. French brings
- 26:27Speaker 1: her out. She's very good at shaking that ass as
- 26:29Speaker 1: she should. It's really good. Like do you do that
- 26:33Speaker 1: when the king is sitting there? Like what is the vibe?
- 26:36Speaker 3: Like?
- 26:36Speaker 5: You didn't do it in Morocco only because it's a very.
- 26:41Speaker 3: It in Morocco. I didn't do it in Saudi.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Arabia places you those are the conservative places I respected.
- 26:49Speaker 5: What I did do is I jumped up and I
- 26:51Speaker 5: jumped high up in the air.
- 26:53Speaker 3: And raised my hand in the air, just like you know,
- 26:54Speaker 3: regular right right.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But I was because she has the background of basketball,
- 26:59Speaker 1: so she he's jumping away up there.
- 27:01Speaker 5: He told me in Moroccan Saudi Arabia that if I
- 27:04Speaker 5: got up there dance the way I do duringfort To
- 27:06Speaker 5: said that they didn't know if I would get arrested.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Okay, good choice, good choice automatically just jump in the
- 27:12Speaker 1: air like you're dancing with good.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Choice on the back down. I have a question and
- 27:16Speaker 2: you might have answered it, but what what is the
- 27:20Speaker 2: worst uh moment you ever had DJing? Was it that
- 27:24Speaker 2: when the tape went bad or whatever the music sound
- 27:27Speaker 2: went bad? Or was it or is there something else
- 27:29Speaker 2: that you could just tell me was like the most
- 27:31Speaker 2: embarrassing or just worst night of DJing where you're like,
- 27:34Speaker 2: in the beginning of your career, you were like, what
- 27:36Speaker 2: am I doing? Or this just something memorable that that
- 27:41Speaker 2: an up and coming DJ is going to probably experience
- 27:44Speaker 2: in their in their younger career.
- 27:47Speaker 5: The only like, first of all, I love my job
- 27:50Speaker 5: at everything I do, even when there's hiccups, Like it's
- 27:52Speaker 5: just amazing.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I really don't even call it a job.
- 27:55Speaker 5: But I can remember one time when I was DJing
- 27:57Speaker 5: for a rapper named Currency. He had I love Currency,
- 28:01Speaker 5: Love Currency, great person, amazing person to have be my
- 28:05Speaker 5: first experience of DJing for artists. He had a rapper
- 28:08Speaker 5: called Gunplay that was there at the venue where he
- 28:11Speaker 5: was performing, and Gunplay comes up to me. He was like, Hey,
- 28:14Speaker 5: I'm going to perform this song, load it up.
- 28:18Speaker 3: And I didn't really know Gunplay or his.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Music, Like, no, I'm trying to download the song and
- 28:26Speaker 5: the song is not downloading, and he grabs the mic
- 28:29Speaker 5: and goes out there and everybody's like, oh, it's don't play,
- 28:32Speaker 5: and everybody said it, and I told her. I was like,
- 28:34Speaker 5: I don't have your song. I don't have any of
- 28:36Speaker 5: your songs. I didn't have any of the man.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Mike, okay, this would be I would what are you doing.
- 28:43Speaker 1: That moment when you hit the YouTube you go to
- 28:45Speaker 1: YouTube and just type in his name, Like what do
- 28:47Speaker 1: you do?
- 28:48Speaker 5: I said, everybody gave it up for Bunplay and they
- 28:51Speaker 5: all start clapping it.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Then I playing.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Then I played Currency is that song? Like okay, sir, Like.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Oh god, Duffy, You're so bad.
- 29:00Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 29:01Speaker 5: I'm like, dude, I don't even know who you are
- 29:03Speaker 5: and you just come up to me in the middle
- 29:05Speaker 5: of my set and just tell me to play your music.
- 29:07Speaker 5: Like the only other time I had that happened with
- 29:10Speaker 5: Currency was when Lil Wayne walked up and told me
- 29:14Speaker 5: that he wanted to perform a song I had his music.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, was a good thing.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Right, Well, I'll say, yeah, I'm going to send you
- 29:22Speaker 2: my music ahead of time, so if I ever jump
- 29:24Speaker 2: on your stage, you got it.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I want to take a short break
- 29:28Speaker 1: and when we get back, I'm gonna pick Duffy's brain
- 29:31Speaker 1: a little more. We'll be back. We are back with
- 29:39Speaker 1: one of my most favorite human beings and I'm lucky
- 29:42Speaker 1: enough to call her a friend. It's DJ Duffy, Hi baby.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So we talked about how your first experience djying was
- 29:55Speaker 1: with Currency. He gave you the opportunity to DJ for him.
- 29:59Speaker 1: When did I did it shift? And you just were
- 30:02Speaker 1: suddenly djaying with a little someone named French Montana. It's
- 30:08Speaker 1: like so crazy to say that, like, that's my friend
- 30:10Speaker 1: on stage with French fucking Montana.
- 30:15Speaker 5: Well, it's very interesting, and this could go out to
- 30:18Speaker 5: anyone out there aspiring to be a DJ, or really
- 30:20Speaker 5: anybody aspiring to be anything. Is you never know who
- 30:23Speaker 5: you're meeting and what they could bring later in your life.
- 30:26Speaker 5: And a little interesting backstory about me and French. I
- 30:29Speaker 5: had met French ten years before ever being his DJ,
- 30:32Speaker 5: and I met him with some friends and he performed
- 30:35Speaker 5: at a club and nobody clapped and nobody really cared.
- 30:38Speaker 5: But I heard potential in his music and I became
- 30:42Speaker 5: a super fan of his. So anytime he was in
- 30:44Speaker 5: Texas within three hours away from me, I would drive.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I would support my friend. I would support my friend's music.
- 30:50Speaker 5: And so when I had the desire to want to
- 30:53Speaker 5: learn how to DJ, he was actually one of the
- 30:54Speaker 5: first people I told.
- 30:56Speaker 3: He had a song called pop d at the.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Time that had blew up, and I told him I
- 30:59Speaker 5: was learning how to d J, teaching myself how to DJ,
- 31:01Speaker 5: and I had aspired her one day maybe wanted to
- 31:04Speaker 5: be his DJ in my head. I never said it
- 31:06Speaker 5: out loud, but I thought it wouldn't It wouldn't happen
- 31:09Speaker 5: because he was huge and I was just starting out DJ.
- 31:11Speaker 5: But I knew that like I would hope to one
- 31:13Speaker 5: day to be able to be good enough to be
- 31:15Speaker 5: his DJ. Fast forward to I had just finished Basketball
- 31:19Speaker 5: Wives La, I'm on television at the time, and I'm
- 31:23Speaker 5: walking down Rodeo Drive and spending that new money I made,
- 31:30Speaker 5: and and French caused me and says, hey, I have
- 31:34Speaker 5: this big song, Unforgettable.
- 31:36Speaker 3: I'm about to go on tour for a.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Month in Europe, and Africa and I want you to
- 31:42Speaker 5: come on and be my DJ. Oh yeah, he was
- 31:46Speaker 5: like you believed in me from the beginning. I see
- 31:49Speaker 5: you're blowing up, You're doing good. I need I want
- 31:51Speaker 5: a new DJ. I want something new, a new element.
- 31:54Speaker 5: And and literally in three days I was headed to
- 31:57Speaker 5: South Africa.
- 31:59Speaker 1: It really was a whirlwind for I feel like your
- 32:03Speaker 1: career has been a whirlwind. Like you were killing it.
- 32:06Speaker 1: You were working alongside Ambarrose for a minute, and then
- 32:09Speaker 1: all of the sudden you just got crazy busy traveling
- 32:13Speaker 1: with French yep and you you had known him ten
- 32:19Speaker 1: years prior. I feel like there's a lot of artists
- 32:21Speaker 1: like the Drakes and French Montanas that you knew before
- 32:27Speaker 1: their career.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Knew I knew Drake before his first album.
- 32:31Speaker 1: And how did It's so crazy right it was Drake.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I just like I didn't Drake before. It's like, uh,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean, how much as cool as it gets, it
- 32:38Speaker 2: really is. I mean, this is like one of the
- 32:41Speaker 2: greatest artists that will go down in history.
- 32:44Speaker 5: It's amazing to just be able to know him, out
- 32:49Speaker 5: to him, to be a friend of his, to eat.
- 32:53Speaker 2: His daily because you're you're collaborating with something, but by
- 32:57Speaker 2: the way, I just want and I could only equate
- 32:58Speaker 2: it on the movie side. But people will say to
- 33:01Speaker 2: me similar like that, oh my god, you're working with
- 33:03Speaker 2: this amazing actor or this director, and I will tell
- 33:06Speaker 2: you it. For me at least is it elevates me
- 33:10Speaker 2: as a human and as an artist. How is it
- 33:12Speaker 2: for you when you work with somebody that you know,
- 33:14Speaker 2: you look up to, or you respect so much on
- 33:17Speaker 2: this level?
- 33:18Speaker 5: I mean, well, people like French and Drake I've known
- 33:22Speaker 5: since you know, I was like twenty, and I've seen
- 33:24Speaker 5: their whole career, and so it's.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Just like they feel like family.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know, you know, the special moments for
- 33:31Speaker 5: me is when when they ask me my advice and
- 33:34Speaker 5: what do I think about their body of work before
- 33:37Speaker 5: it's happen, you know, I feel, Yeah, I feel like
- 33:40Speaker 5: as a female it's kind of already hard to get
- 33:42Speaker 5: respect in this industry, and so for them to respect
- 33:46Speaker 5: my ear and to really value my opinion and what
- 33:50Speaker 5: songs I think or will be singles of theirs or like,
- 33:53Speaker 5: for instance, Lockjaw. The first time French played me Lockjaw,
- 33:56Speaker 5: he didn't he didn't have the song finished, and he
- 33:58Speaker 5: told me he wasn't gonna put it on the project,
- 34:00Speaker 5: and I argued with him so much to where I
- 34:03Speaker 5: followed him out of the studio and I told him
- 34:05Speaker 5: that he would be stupid if he didn't put.
- 34:06Speaker 3: That song on his mixtape.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Wow, And it was the only song to chart on
- 34:11Speaker 5: his whole big sape.
- 34:12Speaker 1: It was the only song yeah when I had that
- 34:17Speaker 1: in common with with French, Montana my my song boy
- 34:21Speaker 1: was the only one to chart that hand in.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Oh.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Another crazy story Unforgettable when when French first got the
- 34:31Speaker 5: song unforgettable like it was kind of already done by
- 34:34Speaker 5: another artist, the Hook, and French played this for me
- 34:37Speaker 5: in a hotel room. He was having a party and
- 34:39Speaker 5: at the time I was not his DJ. He he
- 34:41Speaker 5: took me to the side. He said, Duffy, listens to
- 34:44Speaker 5: this song. He was like, this artist wants me to
- 34:46Speaker 5: pay them three hundred thousand dollars for this song. He
- 34:49Speaker 5: was like, do you think it's worth it. I listened
- 34:52Speaker 5: to the song and I said absolutely. And that has
- 34:55Speaker 5: been his biggest song of his entire career, had made
- 34:57Speaker 5: him ran.
- 34:59Speaker 1: The three D right the pocket change. I'm sure compared
- 35:02Speaker 1: to what he's made that song is I think, yes, yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 1: so duff. How do you, being someone who you know
- 35:10Speaker 1: is on the road a lot of the time, how
- 35:12Speaker 1: do you juggle being a mama and your career? Because
- 35:17Speaker 1: a lot of women they they don't think that they
- 35:20Speaker 1: can do both. And I feel like you're the living
- 35:22Speaker 1: proof that you can.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Yes, hell, yes you can.
- 35:26Speaker 5: For any woman out there listening that if you think,
- 35:28Speaker 5: because you know you're a mom, that you're not capable,
- 35:31Speaker 5: I say you're You're capable because you are a mom.
- 35:34Speaker 3: There's some of the strongest women in the world are mothers.
- 35:38Speaker 3: You can literally do anything. If you can bring a
- 35:40Speaker 3: life into this world, then you can juggle a career.
- 35:43Speaker 2: You know, I agree with that. To what what you
- 35:48Speaker 2: women have to go through to carry a child for
- 35:51Speaker 2: ten months and then deliver the child and then raise
- 35:55Speaker 2: the child to be a mom? Yes you know?
- 35:57Speaker 1: Don't you only carry a baby for nine ten?
- 36:00Speaker 2: Ten total?
- 36:01Speaker 3: With uh yeah, nine months?
- 36:03Speaker 2: I thought it was ten. Isn't a ten total? I
- 36:05Speaker 2: thought it's ten total.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Like between the time of conceiving in the third.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Time from it's from the act of getting Okay, I
- 36:14Speaker 2: know it's nine months. We always say nine months, but
- 36:16Speaker 2: I think the actual time is step. But we're not
- 36:17Speaker 2: gonna get into that right next. We're we're praising, We're
- 36:20Speaker 2: praising mothers have to have.
- 36:25Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Let me tell you, I'm not going to argue with
- 36:27Speaker 2: any woman on this on this on this podcast right now,
- 36:30Speaker 2: because I'm definitely gonna lose. So but I agree with
- 36:33Speaker 2: you Duffy that that that if you know any woman,
- 36:36Speaker 2: that that any woman period, but any woman that's a mother.
- 36:40Speaker 2: You know what you have to go through as a minor. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 3: As a student athlete, I had to always juggle.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I had to juggle my school with my basketball and
- 36:52Speaker 5: then with my with my personal life. I've had to
- 36:55Speaker 5: always juggle. And so you know, women out there, you
- 36:58Speaker 5: can do anything, you can be anything. And when it
- 37:01Speaker 5: comes to like with my son, it's like I go,
- 37:03Speaker 5: I go to work, I travel most of the time.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I'm you know, working on the weekends.
- 37:07Speaker 5: During the weekday, I'm taking him to school, I'm taking
- 37:09Speaker 5: them a practice, I'm picking him up from school. We're
- 37:11Speaker 5: spending quality time together. But really what I'm doing is
- 37:14Speaker 5: showing my son that his mom did something great. I'm
- 37:18Speaker 5: just being a great example of I had a dream
- 37:20Speaker 5: and I did it and I did it big and
- 37:22Speaker 5: do whatever you want to do big.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Wow.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I have a question side note question. If you and
- 37:29Speaker 2: I Okay, now, I'm I'm like five ten at best. Okay,
- 37:34Speaker 2: I'm a good thing. If you and I go one
- 37:37Speaker 2: on one on the court, do I have any chance?
- 37:38Speaker 2: I never played back?
- 37:39Speaker 3: Oh you have no chance? Wow, still got it?
- 37:42Speaker 2: What if okay, what if we played with ten and
- 37:44Speaker 2: you give me like a seven point advantage.
- 37:47Speaker 1: She's still kicking your chance.
- 37:51Speaker 2: I got you already. I'm doing this. I'm doing it.
- 37:54Speaker 2: I want to get to schooled by not only a
- 37:56Speaker 2: badass DJ, but a bad ass BacT.
- 37:59Speaker 3: But I'm down. I love this. Oh my god, I
- 38:03Speaker 3: don't turn down a basketball.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Oh yes, I love it. Okay, the next time, the
- 38:08Speaker 2: next time you're in l A, you gotta come play me.
- 38:10Speaker 2: You gotta complain, let's go.
- 38:13Speaker 1: My god, this is amazing. I cannot wait to watch
- 38:16Speaker 1: kick your ass.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I'm not going to get a point. I'll probably not
- 38:18Speaker 2: get a point, but.
- 38:19Speaker 3: You know what, it's so balling. Oh you think you're
- 38:24Speaker 3: a competitor.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 5: My mom when I was in middle school used to
- 38:31Speaker 5: like put me in the hospital from playing her one
- 38:33Speaker 5: on one holy ship.
- 38:36Speaker 1: From a line of athletes.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Dude.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Her mom played basketball, her brother's.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Athlete family has played collegiate level.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Holy I want to tell you something though, be nervous stuff,
- 38:47Speaker 2: because I am a high level pickle ball player now
- 38:51Speaker 2: and I am coming for you.
- 38:53Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Randall. I'm so confident in myself. I feel
- 38:56Speaker 3: like I could beat any man at any sport.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna go hide. Fuck this my challenge. I
- 39:05Speaker 2: am not playing you. I've decided there's no because you
- 39:08Speaker 2: are owning this way too much. No, Okay, I have
- 39:13Speaker 2: I have a running out of time. I have some rumor,
- 39:16Speaker 2: has it that you are now transitioning of juggling both
- 39:19Speaker 2: being a high level DJ but also managing artists. Tell
- 39:23Speaker 2: me what that's like running the business part for other people,
- 39:27Speaker 2: not just you know, your own career.
- 39:29Speaker 5: Yeah, so right now, right now, I've been managing artists
- 39:33Speaker 5: for about a year now, and I'm still in the
- 39:35Speaker 5: learning process. I'm learning about contracts, I'm learning about like
- 39:38Speaker 5: what it really takes to be an artist. I'm really
- 39:41Speaker 5: trying to figure out what makes artists pop. You know
- 39:44Speaker 5: what I'm saying, What are those formulas that are making
- 39:46Speaker 5: artists stand out, and so I have. I just got
- 39:50Speaker 5: out of the studio with a fourteen year old kid
- 39:52Speaker 5: from Fort Worth, Texas that has so much potential and
- 39:55Speaker 5: he's so good that I might have already landed him
- 39:58Speaker 5: a deal before his mix safe has.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Even come out.
- 40:01Speaker 5: Wow and yeah, And so this whole process of using
- 40:05Speaker 5: all of these connections that are made over the last
- 40:08Speaker 5: you know, ten years, from just being a fan of
- 40:10Speaker 5: music to them becoming a DJ. Now I get to
- 40:13Speaker 5: use all of these artists and all of these A
- 40:16Speaker 5: and r's and all of these producers. I get to
- 40:18Speaker 5: use them to help out kids from from my city
- 40:20Speaker 5: and my community that would never have the ability to meet.
- 40:24Speaker 5: These people, never have the ability to start this career.
- 40:27Speaker 5: Like this kid, this kid from from Fort Worth, he
- 40:30Speaker 5: didn't even know how to upload his music. He's just
- 40:32Speaker 5: been putting songs on iTunes and something as simple as
- 40:34Speaker 5: teaching to distribute his own music.
- 40:38Speaker 3: He didn't know. You know, Yeah, that's amazing joy out
- 40:42Speaker 3: of just helping them, you know, learn.
- 40:44Speaker 2: But you're also taking people that might never get that
- 40:49Speaker 2: opportunity because you're so dialed in.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Those are the people that I'm looking for. I'm looking
- 40:54Speaker 3: for people with.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Real talent who who come from areas that would have
- 40:58Speaker 5: never made it. They don't have the finances to get
- 41:01Speaker 5: a real video, they don't have the ability to they
- 41:04Speaker 5: might not even have a computer to go upload their music.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Right, I'm looking for those people who really really need
- 41:09Speaker 3: my help.
- 41:10Speaker 2: And here's a crazy thing. It's I mean not crazy,
- 41:12Speaker 2: but it's like you find somebody who has no access
- 41:16Speaker 2: and doesn't believe or doesn't have the faith in themselves.
- 41:20Speaker 2: They meet you and all of a sudden, they have
- 41:22Speaker 2: Drake listening to their stuff.
- 41:23Speaker 1: They have this person so unlimited access.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Well, I think you're a better candidate any day of
- 41:28Speaker 2: the week being a manager and a producer of these people.
- 41:32Speaker 2: You know, of these people of different people that don't
- 41:35Speaker 2: have the resources. You're going to get them out there
- 41:37Speaker 2: and you're going to really believe in them and put
- 41:39Speaker 2: your heart and soul into it like you did for yourself.
- 41:41Speaker 2: And I think these people are lucky to have somebody.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yeah, dud Duffy's a dream maker and she she instills
- 41:47Speaker 1: confidence in people that otherwise really wouldn't have it right.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Which is amazing, which is what which is in the
- 41:53Speaker 2: world that we're living in today. I think we need
- 41:56Speaker 2: more of this, and I think that more people are
- 41:58Speaker 2: going to get to shine in the world. You know,
- 42:01Speaker 2: when people like you, Duffy give them a break. So
- 42:04Speaker 2: that's pretty, that's.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Pretty, duff I'm so grateful that you came on the
- 42:09Speaker 1: podcast today, Sharon, You dude.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Always we have to see each other next time I
- 42:15Speaker 3: come to l A.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I would love it. I would love that so much.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Or or I'll have friends shipped me out to Texas.
- 42:21Speaker 3: No, no, no ship.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Duffy is gonna come out here and we're gonna play
- 42:26Speaker 2: basketball and they're on the podcast, Randall.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I really don't want to ruin our new friends. I
- 42:32Speaker 3: can't wait.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Don't want to talk the fan the fans will laalas
- 42:37Speaker 2: fans because Duffy and your fans, I only have three,
- 42:39Speaker 2: so between you two no more.
- 42:43Speaker 3: But Lala made you pretty popular out here.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Oh god, I'm going I'm going back, going back into
- 42:50Speaker 2: my hole anyway, but Duffy, when you come out, I
- 42:53Speaker 2: can't wait to meet you, like face to face. Well,
- 42:55Speaker 2: we'll get together. Thanks for for being on here with us,
- 42:59Speaker 2: because I learned a lot today.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Of course, I love you so much, babe. I love
- 43:03Speaker 1: you babe, all right, we'll talk soon. By Jefe.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Well, I got to tell you something. A lot. I've
- 43:09Speaker 2: never spoken to Duffy and now I cannot wait to
- 43:12Speaker 2: meet her, uh and get together because she is so
- 43:15Speaker 2: cool and so inspiring and honestly, what a story.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, dude, she's the best. She's just one
- 43:22Speaker 1: of those people when you talk to where you can
- 43:24Speaker 1: help but feel inspire and there's no reason for you
- 43:27Speaker 1: to be a lazy fuck. There's absolutely like if she
- 43:30Speaker 1: makes you be like, I should probably work a lot harder.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Well, you know, back, first of all, the fact that
- 43:35Speaker 2: she's been played D one basketball and then and then
- 43:39Speaker 2: you know, uh it was a young mother and went
- 43:42Speaker 2: on to produce this incredible career in life for herself
- 43:45Speaker 2: and is now inspiring other people. That is just a compliment.
- 43:51Speaker 2: I don't even know what the right word I commend compliment.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I just think that's awesome and I love to inspire
- 43:57Speaker 2: and I think that we need more of that and
- 43:59Speaker 2: this world today. So, Duffy, I am excited to face
- 44:04Speaker 2: you one on one on the basketball court. I am afraid. Now,
- 44:07Speaker 2: I wasn't afraid at first, but I am petrified. But
- 44:10Speaker 2: I'm going to take Uh, take my loss like a
- 44:15Speaker 2: gentleman and come back on this podcast and share with
- 44:18Speaker 2: my fans.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Uh, Randall is such a rookie with this the phone.
- 44:24Speaker 1: It's like really insane, you.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Know what you know, let me tell you something.
- 44:29Speaker 1: We're like over twenty episodes.
- 44:31Speaker 2: In and they run, Hey, Hey, Rudy Ruticker was a rooty,
- 44:34Speaker 2: a rookie. Rudy Rudiger. Say it three times. Rudy Ruticker
- 44:37Speaker 2: was a rookie. Rudy Ruddicker was a rookie. For those
- 44:41Speaker 2: of you that ever watched the movie Rudy and Rudy
- 44:44Speaker 2: on the Leg after being a rookie finally made it
- 44:47Speaker 2: onto the field to play that last game that changed
- 44:50Speaker 2: the world. So you can keep calling me a rookie.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Eventually you will be Rudy. Eventually I will be the
- 44:57Speaker 2: Rudy in this podcast.
- 44:59Speaker 1: All Right, We love you guys so much. Please slay
- 45:02Speaker 1: the rest of the week and we will catch you
- 45:04Speaker 1: next Wednesday.
