- 0:00Speaker 1: Tony Kats The Morning News ninety three WIBC. My name
- 0:04Speaker 1: is Craig Collins, filling in, thrilled to be with you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: A whole bunch of stuff out there to talk about.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I can't remember is now the time that we do
- 0:11Speaker 1: the thing? Or no, do we do the thing later?
- 0:14Speaker 1: The thing being yeah, pop yeah, Okay, thank you, Carl.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I couldn't remember it was now or later. All right,
- 0:20Speaker 1: it's time for a popcorn moment. The popcorn moment is
- 0:22Speaker 1: brought to you by boor home remodeling. Popcorn moments are
- 0:26Speaker 1: in fact crazy things that happen on television, So let's
- 0:29Speaker 1: go ahead and get into it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: All right to me? I decided I didn't know what.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Road to go on, you know, New Year's Eve, as
- 0:42Speaker 1: far as the popcorn moment goes. Do I want to
- 0:43Speaker 1: attack somebody for the crazy thing? They say? They want
- 0:46Speaker 1: to go good? I'm going to go good.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Here.
- 0:48Speaker 1: ABC News finally admitted and also celebrated the fact that
- 0:52Speaker 1: gas prices are ridiculously low. So they did a topic
- 0:56Speaker 1: or report I think this was on Good Morning America
- 0:58Speaker 1: about how awesome prices are are the Golden Age of Trump,
- 1:01Speaker 1: as some are calling it as far as great things
- 1:04Speaker 1: happening in the world of energy costs, here we.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Go some good news for those of us hitting the
- 1:10Speaker 4: road for the holidays. Gas prices they're dropping nationwide and
- 1:13Speaker 4: this is with the fifth consecutive week.
- 1:14Speaker 2: So Elizabeth Scholzi is here with more.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Elizabeth, good morning. Is a really welcome news for the
- 1:19Speaker 4: more than one hundred million Americans hitting the roads during
- 1:22Speaker 4: the holidays gas. But he says, the national average price
- 1:24Speaker 4: for a gallon of gas down for the.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Fifth straight week. So it's yeah, two dollars.
- 1:28Speaker 4: And seventy five cents. That's down twenty three cents in
- 1:31Speaker 4: one month. In forty states, average gas prices are.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Now below that three dollars mark.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Now we do Tennessee for prices this time as.
- 1:38Speaker 2: FA and don't tell me the other excuse stuff. Don't
- 1:40Speaker 2: go the other road.
- 1:41Speaker 1: To me, that's great and that's a pompcorn moment to
- 1:43Speaker 1: me because a lot of people are experiencing this gas
- 1:46Speaker 1: price is ridiculously less expensive and than they were before. Yay, wonderful, awesome,
- 1:52Speaker 1: let's keep this going. I don't know if you guys
- 1:54Speaker 1: talk a lot about the gas prices in Indianapolis and
- 1:57Speaker 1: how they're doing.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I assume you do quite a bit.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Matt Barret, don't know if you want to jump in
- 2:01Speaker 1: on this and tell me if gas price has been
- 2:03Speaker 1: good for you recently.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Is he there? Did he go away? Did Matt Bear leave?
- 2:08Speaker 3: I'm here, I'm here, I'm here. I'm sorry. We're having
- 2:10Speaker 3: technical issues here.
- 2:11Speaker 2: That's right. How are the gas prices in Indianapolis?
- 2:14Speaker 3: They're fine? Let's see what did I pay the other day?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Three something? Three? Really? Yeah? In Carmel it's down to
- 2:22Speaker 3: like two seventy ooh. Carmel's always better than Indianapolis. Who
- 2:27Speaker 3: able to kill me? We're born in Netle, Blankets of gold,
- 2:33Speaker 3: you know, golden cribs.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Fantastic. What just happened there?
- 2:38Speaker 3: We have all is.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Usually the most expensive out of Indiana. I'm surprised that
- 2:42Speaker 5: the city is more expensive, one.
- 2:44Speaker 3: More notch on the belt for you guys, well done.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I want I want Matt and Carl to argue about
- 2:49Speaker 1: Carmel in Indianapolis.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Now, that's all I want the rest of this to be.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I love Carl.
- 2:53Speaker 2: No, I do, I really know it sounds like you do.
- 2:55Speaker 3: No. I know people that used to live there a
- 2:58Speaker 3: couple of decades ago. It's one of fIF No, it's
- 3:01Speaker 3: it's a really fun city. Actually it's Did.
- 3:04Speaker 2: They brag about the cost of gas?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Then? No, I'm sure of course they did. They're the
- 3:08Speaker 3: number one city in America. Every pool that comes out,
- 3:10Speaker 3: best city in America's Carmel be best place to build
- 3:13Speaker 3: a pool, best place to go to the Palladium where
- 3:15Speaker 3: you can see Michael Boo Blay twenty four to seven. Golly,
- 3:20Speaker 3: so much anger. No, it's so good.
- 3:22Speaker 2: This is so great.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I think every topic now the rest of the show,
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm going to have to bring up Kramel somehow.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And I just used to live in Carmel. I have
- 3:28Speaker 3: nothing but a big, full heart for Carmel.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I really again, we can tell it's it's evident in
- 3:33Speaker 1: the way that you're talking about it. It's it's oozing
- 3:36Speaker 1: out of you, the love you have for Carmel.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Indiana?
- 3:38Speaker 5: Is it below two dollars in Texas?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Now, it's pretty close, depending on where you pick, it's
- 3:44Speaker 1: pretty close to two bucks, which is lovely.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I didn't want to go that road, Carl.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I do live in Houston and it's probably better than
- 3:51Speaker 1: what's going on in it. But I assume Indiana is
- 3:52Speaker 1: pretty good. You know, I assume a lot of places
- 3:54Speaker 1: are pretty good.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Indat expensive because of our gas tax. Ohio has really
- 3:58Speaker 5: good gas prices.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That's terrible. Yeah, well Carmel does apparently have a really
- 4:02Speaker 2: good gas price.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I've heard.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I've heard some really great things.
- 4:05Speaker 3: That's listening to Hammer Nigel yesterday during the Traffic Are
- 4:10Speaker 3: three to seven Outstanding Evening Rush show, and somebody called
- 4:12Speaker 3: in and they had them on the air, and he
- 4:15Speaker 3: was talking about, you know, why our roads are so
- 4:17Speaker 3: bad even though we have this gas tax. And I
- 4:19Speaker 3: thought it was a hell of a comment because I'm
- 4:21Speaker 3: on Southport Road on the outside, which Craig is like
- 4:24Speaker 3: a major thoroughfare through Johnson, not Johnson County, but Marion
- 4:28Speaker 3: County on the south head, and it was awful, and
- 4:31Speaker 3: I was just approaching thirty one and I'm going west
- 4:34Speaker 3: and going towards thirty one. I'm like, if this is
- 4:36Speaker 3: the best we can do on a major thoroughfare right now,
- 4:39Speaker 3: why the hell do we have this gas tax to
- 4:41Speaker 3: begin with, because we're not doing anything with it. I
- 4:43Speaker 3: just thought is kind of making the point that Carl
- 4:46Speaker 3: just made, you know, about how expensive gas is because
- 4:49Speaker 3: of this tax, and we look around and it's like,
- 4:51Speaker 3: what the hell's going on with our roads? Sometimes I
- 4:53Speaker 3: just thought it was a great call.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So here here's the thing. I once pitched a segment
- 4:57Speaker 1: to a very different radio place and then we got
- 5:00Speaker 1: the city involved that I was working in, and they
- 5:02Speaker 1: were not happy with the idea for the segment. But
- 5:04Speaker 1: I promise it's related to what you're saying. I wanted
- 5:07Speaker 1: to do a pothole like ribbon cutting, which every time
- 5:12Speaker 1: they filled the pothole, I would go to the place
- 5:14Speaker 1: and cut a ribbon over the filled pothole and celebrate it.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And I thought it'd be fine.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I thought it'd be a good way to demonstrate the
- 5:20Speaker 1: city is fixed and stuff like, yeah, we're doing it.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The city hated this idea.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I even thought about, like inviting local celebrities to some
- 5:28Speaker 1: of the pothole ribbon cuttings if they were potholes that
- 5:31Speaker 1: were notorious or parts of road that were notorious that
- 5:33Speaker 1: had been bad for a long time. I feel like
- 5:35Speaker 1: it's still a good idea. I feel like there's still
- 5:38Speaker 1: a way to highlight this valuably and Matt, it feels
- 5:41Speaker 1: like you'd be the right person to bring to some
- 5:43Speaker 1: of these spots and do the ribbon cutting with me.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So I think you're probably in. I don't think Indianapolis
- 5:47Speaker 1: will be because I know Chicago hated the idea.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I think it's reasonable and I think it's a fun
- 5:52Speaker 3: way to point out how bad the roads are. Where's
- 5:54Speaker 3: everybody going many moons ago when I first started traffic
- 5:58Speaker 3: of people and maybe this is still happening, and we're
- 6:01Speaker 3: just we don't think potholes are as funny as we
- 6:03Speaker 3: used to hear in Indianapolis because they're everywhere and they're
- 6:05Speaker 3: going to be a starting early February. Yeah, it's going
- 6:08Speaker 3: to be brutal. But people would send pictures of you know,
- 6:11Speaker 3: they would they would plant something in these potholes, take
- 6:15Speaker 3: a picture, put on social media, send it to me.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I thought it was fun. Obviously, you don't want people
- 6:19Speaker 3: in the middle of the road, you know, practicing their horticulture.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But it's at the same time, I thought it was
- 6:25Speaker 3: a clever way to kind of show, yeah, our roads
- 6:27Speaker 3: suck right now. Yeah, well, I it needs attention, it
- 6:31Speaker 3: doesn't mean And that's the thing.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I thought that what I would do would help demonstrate
- 6:35Speaker 1: that people were fixing stuff, and it would get attention
- 6:37Speaker 1: to the you know, potholes, and I think we even
- 6:39Speaker 1: called it the pothole Walk of Fame, where you'd like
- 6:41Speaker 1: cut the things.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I know they hated it, they hated the idea, but
- 6:46Speaker 2: you cut the rimen.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You'd have the person maybe even etch their name into
- 6:48Speaker 1: the filled pothole so they get a little bit.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But you don't.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I don't want to make a new pothole with the
- 6:53Speaker 1: thing that just got fixed and then you move on
- 6:55Speaker 1: from there.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But I think that's the best.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Way to do this, not that idea specifically, but a
- 7:00Speaker 1: version where you know, people actually tell us they're doing
- 7:03Speaker 1: work and they show us and then we feel happier
- 7:05Speaker 1: because it does feel endless. In every city, I think,
- 7:09Speaker 1: whether it was Chicago, Indianapolis, you name it, potholes are
- 7:13Speaker 1: ubiquitous and people hate them and it's crazy how long
- 7:15Speaker 1: they last. And it feels like that should just what
- 7:18Speaker 1: they should be doing all the time, you know, like
- 7:20Speaker 1: like somebody should just every day for the government be
- 7:23Speaker 1: out there fixing all the potholes constantly. That should be
- 7:27Speaker 1: a twenty four to seven, you know, three sixty five gig,
- 7:30Speaker 1: And it doesn't feel like that's actually happening.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't know how it is in other cities,
- 7:34Speaker 3: but here at Indian we have to bring in ringers,
- 7:35Speaker 3: you know, just kind of cruise from other cities and
- 7:38Speaker 3: other towns and say it did to kind of fill them,
- 7:40Speaker 3: you know, when it gets really bad. And I'm glad
- 7:42Speaker 3: they do that. But like you're saying, I mean, road
- 7:45Speaker 3: conditions aren't just potholes as I'm experiencing it. I mean
- 7:49Speaker 3: in the summer you can find them as bad as
- 7:50Speaker 3: they are in the winter. Now we have these major
- 7:53Speaker 3: projects going on, and you think that's going to alleviate
- 7:55Speaker 3: some of this when they're done, but we're not talking
- 7:57Speaker 3: about until a year or two for some of these.
- 7:59Speaker 3: So it's tough to drive in this city right now.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I don't want to sound like you know, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 3: but it's it's really I have a lot of empathy
- 8:07Speaker 3: for commuters right now, and I normally do, but right
- 8:10Speaker 3: now it's just especially bad if you're going in and
- 8:14Speaker 3: out of the city center. Right now, it's it's it's
- 8:17Speaker 3: tough sledding, definitely.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I hear the road conditions are great and caramel. By
- 8:21Speaker 2: the way, I don't know if.
- 8:21Speaker 3: You know, they maintained them very well. Of course, you
- 8:24Speaker 3: guys build a thousand roundabouts. You guys don't have any
- 8:27Speaker 3: intersections left because you had all this money, all this
- 8:30Speaker 3: tax basically saying we're gonna tear out all the intersections
- 8:33Speaker 3: and putting roundabouts because we have nothing better to do
- 8:35Speaker 3: with our cash.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Oh my god, I found the best thing ever about
- 8:40Speaker 1: Matt Bear. You say Carmel, and you're gonna get a
- 8:41Speaker 1: five minute rant.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And it's great.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I love Carmel. I love going up there, and go
- 8:45Speaker 3: up there all the time.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You can tell, I mean honestly absolutely, that's where the
- 8:49Speaker 1: first pothole walk of family be.
- 8:52Speaker 3: What Carmel? What's the outdoor mall that you can only
- 8:54Speaker 3: go to five months a year because it's you have
- 8:57Speaker 3: to walk outside. What's that called carl Trade or something?
- 9:00Speaker 3: I don't know, but it's beautiful and I love shopping there,
- 9:03Speaker 3: you know during the summer.
- 9:04Speaker 1: It sounds like it. Yeah, again, this has been fun.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I can't wait to do more of this. All right,
- 9:08Speaker 1: we'll take a break. A lot coming up
