Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This immediate podcast. Welcome to media to Trivia, the only
- 0:11Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:14Speaker 1: new Art, and today we're joined by special guests Dustin
- 0:18Speaker 1: Huff who killed the biggest white tailed buck in America,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Mark Kenyon, who did not very proud of he
- 0:28Speaker 1: was laying a bed a couple of nights ago. You
- 0:29Speaker 1: won't go to start laughing. Dustin and Mark, Welcome to
- 0:33Speaker 1: the show. In addition to those folks, we got Steve Hayden,
- 0:35Speaker 1: cal Brody, Corrin and Jannis. Dustin and Mark, how you
- 0:38Speaker 1: guys feel about Trivia? I'm fired up about it? Yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm ready. I got an announcement to make. Let's hear
- 0:44Speaker 1: from now on, instead of talking about how many times
- 0:48Speaker 1: someone won, it's your your batting average, your percentage. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: it's blank at blank percent So it's like how many
- 1:00Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, the percentage of times you've played?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Then one, what am I trying to say? Yeah, I'm
- 1:07Speaker 1: betting average? Yeah, the percent what's your success rate? Your
- 1:11Speaker 1: success rate? Because the way you're doing it is stupid.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well you really remember, like Clay played one time, but
- 1:20Speaker 1: he he gotta win, So you're like Clay one once,
- 1:23Speaker 1: what's like doesn't tell a full story because Clay it's
- 1:25Speaker 1: one hundred percent, I think, folks, but you also need
- 1:29Speaker 1: like a pool to draw, Like if you only play
- 1:31Speaker 1: one time, that's not really it's not your right, it's
- 1:33Speaker 1: not percent, it's one for blank. There you go. Because
- 1:38Speaker 1: that way people can go like, Okay, he had a
- 1:39Speaker 1: lucky day. Yeah, but like when it's me, it'd be
- 1:42Speaker 1: like he's like ninety for one hundred, wow or whatever
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm at. Then that like really tells a story. Just
- 1:50Speaker 1: gotta do Vegas odds for That's my announcement. Go on now.
- 1:53Speaker 1: If you're not familiar, this is a ten round quiz
- 1:55Speaker 1: show with questions born out of meat eaters for verticals
- 1:57Speaker 1: with you're hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking, and there is
- 2:01Speaker 1: a prize. Meat eater will donate five hundred dollars to
- 2:03Speaker 1: the conservation organization of the winners choosing. And here's Steve's
- 2:06Speaker 1: favorite part. Steve has won five times, Brodie's won four,
- 2:09Speaker 1: ye Honest has won two. Clay Seth, Karine and Chester
- 2:12Speaker 1: have each one once. Krin didn't win once. That was
- 2:14Speaker 1: a cheat. That was the April fools Day joke. Listen,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I gave you both a victory, and I'm maintaining that.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I feel strongly that Karin gets a victory. Going to
- 2:23Speaker 1: start cheating, But you say like, you could be like
- 2:27Speaker 1: because you haven't implemented in my thing, you could be
- 2:29Speaker 1: like and Dawstin's never won. No, you can't do anything
- 2:36Speaker 1: like that. Dawson's never won, Dustin's never won. Now we
- 2:42Speaker 1: have two surprises to announce before we get to trivia.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Here's the first one. Phil, you got a drum roll
- 2:47Speaker 1: over there, It'll be in the show. All right. Meeting
- 2:54Speaker 1: your Trivia is going to become a weekly podcast. So
- 3:01Speaker 1: what's that mean? Every Wednesday going forward until I run
- 3:04Speaker 1: out of trivia questions, we are going to be releasing
- 3:06Speaker 1: new episodes of meat Eata Trivia right here on the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Meat Eater podcast feed. And I'm absolutely thrilled about it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I love hosting these are coming up with questions. But
- 3:15Speaker 1: to make these episodes great on a weekly basis, I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: going to need a lot of help from listeners. So
- 3:19Speaker 1: here's my plea. If you have a question you think
- 3:21Speaker 1: is right for meat Eator Trivia, you can send it
- 3:23Speaker 1: to Trivia at the metator dot com. Every email you
- 3:26Speaker 1: guys send is much appreciated. Yeah, and then I'll point
- 3:30Speaker 1: out that now that it's weekly and it's going to
- 3:33Speaker 1: occur when I'm not there, I have been sending Spencer
- 3:37Speaker 1: great questions for when I'm not in the room, so
- 3:39Speaker 1: other players in the room here can say, hey, when
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm not around, here's a doozy. That's right. We will
- 3:47Speaker 1: even send gold. We'll even acknowledge when we so. First
- 3:53Speaker 1: announcement Mediator Trivia happening weekly. Here's a second announcement, and
- 3:56Speaker 1: this is a surprise that no one in the room
- 3:58Speaker 1: knows except for me. Sitting in front of Brody on
- 4:00Speaker 1: the podcast table under a blanket is a giant object
- 4:03Speaker 1: that we're about to reveal. You guys have any guesses
- 4:06Speaker 1: as to what it might be. Picture of the huff
- 4:09Speaker 1: Buck like that, nothing nothing else. Is something we talked
- 4:14Speaker 1: about in the past. Well, it's gotta have it. It's
- 4:16Speaker 1: gotta have something to do with meat eater trivia. So
- 4:19Speaker 1: think game show accessory is what I'm gonna go with
- 4:22Speaker 1: in my clothes, scoreboard carving. We're on the on the
- 4:25Speaker 1: right track. Hit this with another drum roll film. We
- 4:26Speaker 1: got two of them. All right, reveal for its brody.
- 4:30Speaker 1: What we have. This is a custom meat eater trivia trophy.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Oh look at that game now. It was built by
- 4:42Speaker 1: podcast listener Ed Newman ke never won. Wow. This was
- 4:54Speaker 1: built by the podcast listener Ed Newman. Ed is the
- 4:58Speaker 1: Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics coordinator and Engineering Design a
- 5:03Speaker 1: Development master teacher at Belleville High School in Wisconsin. Ed
- 5:07Speaker 1: created this trophy with the help of some students in
- 5:09Speaker 1: one of the manufacturing classes he teaches. Here is Ed
- 5:13Speaker 1: to tell us more about that process. A few months back,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I was listening to Metator trivia with my son when
- 5:18Speaker 1: I thought that you mugs needed a trophy. So I
- 5:21Speaker 1: sent a message to Spenser and he told me he
- 5:23Speaker 1: loved the idea, and we began the collaborative secret project immediately.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The process for creating a trophy started by using a
- 5:31Speaker 1: live edge slab of hemlock that was harvested from a
- 5:34Speaker 1: buddy's property in northern Wisconsin. On the front of the trophy,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you'll find an updated scoreboard for each member of the crew.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The back of the trophy has a list of conservation
- 5:43Speaker 1: organizations that you may choose to donate to. The base
- 5:46Speaker 1: of the trophy has the meat eators four pillars, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: the bottom of the trophy has a message from me
- 5:51Speaker 1: to the crew, as well as the latitude and longitude
- 5:54Speaker 1: of where the tree came from. Pockets on the trophy
- 5:57Speaker 1: were cut with a C and C router, making ships
- 6:00Speaker 1: at twenty thousand revolutions per minute. The orange game on
- 6:04Speaker 1: Suckers is an epoxy inlay that I did by hand.
- 6:06Speaker 1: All other texts and graphics were engraved or cut using
- 6:10Speaker 1: your laser engraver. Some of my current students got in
- 6:13Speaker 1: on the fun and helped with laser engraving, installing magnets,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and post production work on game pieces. I've also videoed
- 6:19Speaker 1: the entire process so that future classes can see how
- 6:22Speaker 1: many steps go into finishing a major project like this.
- 6:25Speaker 1: After two full months of working on the trophy, it
- 6:28Speaker 1: was ready to travel from Wisconsin to Montana. Now. I've
- 6:31Speaker 1: worked on a lot of projects, but nothing like this.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It was a touch emotional packaging up the trophy, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: I have felt some separation anxiety since. Thank you Metator
- 6:39Speaker 1: crew for having me be part of the show. You
- 6:41Speaker 1: have no idea how much this has meant to me.
- 6:45Speaker 1: All right now, thank you as us or this amazing.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I do have one question. At the top of art
- 6:54Speaker 1: great wait wait, If you want to see the troph
- 6:56Speaker 1: you go to Instagram check out at Spena New Arthur
- 6:58Speaker 1: at Mediator we'll post picture of it there. At the
- 7:01Speaker 1: very top of the trophy, there is a little game
- 7:03Speaker 1: piece that says Jannis we tell us and has a
- 7:06Speaker 1: big old eagle on it. That is because Jannis was
- 7:09Speaker 1: the last winner of meat Eater Trivia. But every name
- 7:13Speaker 1: that's on the trophy also has a game piece that
- 7:17Speaker 1: you guys helped me picked out without even knowing uh.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And whenever new winners they will they will get to
- 7:25Speaker 1: fly their flag on the trophy until they are unseated.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I got a mink I think I picked the pick
- 7:38Speaker 1: a mink burly. After this game of trivia, if Yannis loses,
- 7:46Speaker 1: we will replace that game piece with someone else's so
- 7:49Speaker 1: that everybody who sees the trophy knows who is the
- 7:52Speaker 1: reigning champion. Oh there's even one for um oh Brody.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Is that the hoff Buck on yours? Oh man, that's
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Ranella Ba. But there's there's one for the trivia guests.
- 8:06Speaker 1: We have never had a Yeah, if you win, big
- 8:10Speaker 1: fuss and you get to probably place Bigfoot. But already,
- 8:13Speaker 1: just in case if next year when he gets a
- 8:15Speaker 1: new class and he might consider a thing like that
- 8:21Speaker 1: shows how many times they've played. Yeah, Mark, that's a
- 8:29Speaker 1: great idea of hash marks. Now let me try to
- 8:31Speaker 1: describe the size of Ed's trophy. This thing is heavier
- 8:34Speaker 1: than Pete Alonzo's home Run Derby Trophy, taller than Bo
- 8:37Speaker 1: Jackson's Heisman Trophy, and wider than all of Luke Combs
- 8:41Speaker 1: CMA awards. So all this is to say is that
- 8:43Speaker 1: this is a damn big trophy and a real work
- 8:45Speaker 1: of art. Now, if you want your own custom trophy,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you can contact Ed, whose email address we'll put in
- 8:50Speaker 1: the description this episode. Ed is the advisor for Wildcat Manufacturing,
- 8:54Speaker 1: which is the school student run business. They will open
- 8:58Speaker 1: up shop this fall and plan on selling steel fire pits,
- 9:00Speaker 1: cocktail smokers, custom sides, laser engraved trophy plaques, cribbage boards,
- 9:05Speaker 1: candy machines, bottle openers, fire claws, and more. Ed actually
- 9:09Speaker 1: sent me one of their cocktail smokers and trophe and
- 9:11Speaker 1: turkey plaques, and both are phenomenal. If you have any
- 9:14Speaker 1: custom creations you need done, I can't recommend Ed and
- 9:17Speaker 1: Wildcat manufacturing enough. It is awesome to work with. Their
- 9:20Speaker 1: products are impeccably made, and you're supporting a good cause
- 9:23Speaker 1: by doing business with a student run business. Geez. Well, now,
- 9:30Speaker 1: we also needed to shout out to Hunter Spencer here.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I brought him in to help with some text stuff,
- 9:35Speaker 1: but it ended up being that Hunter almost designed the
- 9:38Speaker 1: whole trophy and then Ed executed it. So well done
- 9:41Speaker 1: to Hunter and Ed. Now, Karn on your game piece,
- 9:45Speaker 1: did you see what that is? It's a dairy call.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's a what it's a dairy call? It's a bird
- 9:51Speaker 1: from Harry Potter. Right, That's what Karin requested for her
- 9:57Speaker 1: game piece. Instead, we gave her the Dodo bird, which
- 9:59Speaker 1: is what the deer Claw is based off of. All right,
- 10:03Speaker 1: we are now on the meat Eator Trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 10:12Speaker 1: How's that? Just tend to win everything? Game on Suckers
- 10:24Speaker 1: Question one, the topic is cooking. This first great question
- 10:27Speaker 1: comes to was via Peyton Snyder. If you have a
- 10:29Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meatator Trivia, you can
- 10:32Speaker 1: send it to Trivia at the meat Eator dot com
- 10:34Speaker 1: and as always, this first question will be multiple choice.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Which of these wild meats is highest in calories? Is
- 10:42Speaker 1: it squirrel, black bear, bluegill, or moose? Again, which of
- 10:49Speaker 1: these wild meats is highest in calories? Squirrel, black bear,
- 10:53Speaker 1: bluegill or moose? Do you mean like flesh or an
- 10:58Speaker 1: average cut that would include fat? This is what the
- 11:02Speaker 1: USDA has to say, so however they grade their nutritional value.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Didn't like that one. No, does everybody have an answer? Yes?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Krinn scribbling, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 11:22Speaker 1: Steve saying bear, Hayden saying bear. No, how do you
- 11:26Speaker 1: know he's not saying bluegill? What the hell's be mean? Yeah?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Multiple choice? Don't going forward. We're gonna write out the
- 11:32Speaker 1: whole word cal saying bluegill, Dustin saying bear, Brody saying bear,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Krin saying moose, Mark saying bear, and Jannis saying squirrel.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The correct answer is black bear. That's right, God. According
- 11:48Speaker 1: to the USDA, rob black bear meat has one hundred
- 11:51Speaker 1: and sixty one calories per three point five ounce service.
- 11:55Speaker 1: How could you guys not put that together? It's like
- 11:56Speaker 1: they gotta tone of fat yea, So no, it doesn't you.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Can you ever hear of being starving like rabbit? Starvation
- 12:04Speaker 1: was a term for what is it? The term? Yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 1: that's how you can starve to death eating rabbits. Yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: rabbit wasn't on there. It was just like flush like
- 12:10Speaker 1: a rabbit. Though squirrel comes in a one hundred and
- 12:12Speaker 1: twenty calories. A squirrel was number two, moose had one
- 12:16Speaker 1: hundred and three and bluegill at eighty nine. Squirrel scores
- 12:20Speaker 1: better than moose, it does. Now can shitload of black bears,
- 12:24Speaker 1: And I'll tell you not every black bear is fat, right,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I mean fatter than the bluegill? All say I got right?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Fish flesh has a super high fat to protein ratio.
- 12:42Speaker 1: What'd you put down blue gill? The room did pretty well.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Super subjective. Steve is just submitting over there after one,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I feel like going to getting them back with badass boots.
- 12:55Speaker 1: The man we're on. A question to the topic is fishing.
- 13:02Speaker 1: In nineteen ninety eight, Congress voted to make this body
- 13:06Speaker 1: of water the sixth Great Lake, but the status was
- 13:10Speaker 1: removed eighteen days later after a nationwide uproar. In nineteen
- 13:16Speaker 1: ninety eight, Congress voted to make this body of water
- 13:19Speaker 1: the sixth Great Lake, but the status was removed eighteen
- 13:23Speaker 1: days later after a nationwide uproar. Well, if it ain't
- 13:30Speaker 1: multiple choice, I ain't got a prayer. There are five
- 13:34Speaker 1: great lakes, but at one time, for eighteen days, there
- 13:37Speaker 1: were six. I think I got it, Spencer, I think
- 13:40Speaker 1: you think you got it, but you didn't get it. Oh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: that was a good little hint. Let me think I
- 13:52Speaker 1: would have said that either way, regardless of the question.
- 13:54Speaker 1: You would you weren't. That was a hint. No, does
- 13:57Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? No, Well, I'll tell you what
- 14:00Speaker 1: it should have been. So well, I again looking for
- 14:05Speaker 1: the sixth Great Lake that existed for eighteen days in
- 14:09Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight. Yannie, we're running out of time. Sorry, sorry, sorry,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I wonder what the economic benefit to having a body
- 14:18Speaker 1: of water called a great lake? You are? You are
- 14:22Speaker 1: setting the table nicely for the follow up factoid. Thank you, Cal.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm ready. I'm gonna have you reveal your answers in
- 14:31Speaker 1: your three your tip two one. We have Steve saying
- 14:36Speaker 1: Lake Saint Clair, Hayden saying Tahoe, Cal without an answer,
- 14:41Speaker 1: Dusty without an answer, Brody saying Lake Saint Clair, Krein
- 14:44Speaker 1: without an answer, Mark saying Lake Saint Clair, Yannest without
- 14:48Speaker 1: an answer. Nobody got it correct. The correct answer is
- 14:52Speaker 1: Lake Champlain. Oh, why do people have a ship fit
- 14:56Speaker 1: about that? Here's what happened. A routine funding bill was
- 15:00Speaker 1: created in nineteen ninety eight that would provide three hundred
- 15:03Speaker 1: million dollars to research centers near the Great Lakes, but
- 15:06Speaker 1: Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy slipped a sentence into the final
- 15:09Speaker 1: bill that also declared Lake Champlain as the sixth Great Lake,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and it passed with no one noticing. The New York
- 15:16Speaker 1: Times classic pork barrel. That's what gives pork barrel a
- 15:20Speaker 1: bad connotation. The New York Times broke the story shortly thereafter,
- 15:25Speaker 1: bringing national attention to the issue. Predictably, policy makers were
- 15:29Speaker 1: furious with Laye and had Champlain's Great Lake status rescinded
- 15:32Speaker 1: just eighteen days later. That was a good little I thought.
- 15:36Speaker 1: The obvious answer that people would move on with is
- 15:39Speaker 1: Lake of the Woods. I thought maybe Folks was Clair
- 15:44Speaker 1: really either? Saint Clair was a very good question. Let's
- 15:47Speaker 1: move on Great Lakes. No one got it. I'm not mad.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So it's like we're onto question from a great lake state,
- 15:56Speaker 1: kind like Michian, kind of a little sliver. Just the
- 16:00Speaker 1: topic is conservation. How many days is the drying period
- 16:05Speaker 1: before Antler's horns or skulls are officially scored by Boone
- 16:09Speaker 1: and Crockett or poping young dust And you get this wrong,
- 16:13Speaker 1: We're gonna throw you out of the room. I think
- 16:14Speaker 1: I might know this one. Now, are you putting this
- 16:18Speaker 1: in the conservation category because you had to say boot
- 16:21Speaker 1: and crocket or poping you on? Yeah, those are conservation
- 16:25Speaker 1: organizations that started to uh like track big game, antler growth,
- 16:31Speaker 1: horn growth, things like that. Yeah, I think it's a
- 16:33Speaker 1: conservation question with you, Cal, I'm with you. I feel
- 16:35Speaker 1: you know I feel you. But it's like, this is
- 16:38Speaker 1: a criticism I brought up one hundred times. I gave up. Listen,
- 16:43Speaker 1: if if we're gonna make a board game that has
- 16:46Speaker 1: three thousand questions, this has got this. I don't know
- 16:49Speaker 1: a problem with this one, Spencer my issue. Does everybody
- 16:54Speaker 1: have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 16:57Speaker 1: have Steve saying one hundred and twenty, Hayden saying sixty,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Cal saying one hundred, Dustin saying sixty, Brody saying sixty,
- 17:04Speaker 1: Karen saying sixty, Mark saying sixty, Yana saying sixty. The
- 17:09Speaker 1: correct answer is sixty. I don't think that's long enough.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Now three years I should be one. I was putting
- 17:17Speaker 1: out what it should be. Now. This rule also applies
- 17:20Speaker 1: to deadheads. One of the most extreme examples is a
- 17:23Speaker 1: dead bighorn sheep that was found in and Alberta's snowdrift
- 17:27Speaker 1: in twenty fourteen. It originally green scored it over two
- 17:30Speaker 1: hundred and nine inches, which at the time would have
- 17:33Speaker 1: made it the world record, but after the sixty day
- 17:35Speaker 1: drying period, it shrank four inches and caused it to
- 17:38Speaker 1: fall to sixth in the record books. That's really something.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So that's why this exists. Why do they attribute like
- 17:44Speaker 1: why did it was in a snow bank and they
- 17:46Speaker 1: said it had so much moisture in it that the
- 17:48Speaker 1: sixty days, Like, is it like h the circumfort? I wonder, like,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I wonder what measurements shrinked them. I imagine it's not
- 17:55Speaker 1: getting longer. It's probably just losing mass by sixty Now dusted,
- 18:00Speaker 1: did your deer shrink it all after the sixty days?
- 18:03Speaker 1: Not an inch? Nope, that's great. Well, a lot of
- 18:04Speaker 1: guys tell me what you do is you age them
- 18:06Speaker 1: in the bucket? Was right? Oh, but there are very
- 18:09Speaker 1: specific rules about it has to be like at room tempature.
- 18:12Speaker 1: It has to be in a dry environment. Uh. Folks
- 18:15Speaker 1: are very passionate about making sure that standards met. Did
- 18:18Speaker 1: anybody like give you a hard time about that? And
- 18:21Speaker 1: so you just like stored it right in your living
- 18:23Speaker 1: room or what? I just had it in the barn,
- 18:25Speaker 1: in the barn, in the bar. You didn't try glue
- 18:30Speaker 1: in a couple more times on them. I should have tried,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I guess, or knocked at little kicker off, knocked a
- 18:35Speaker 1: little kicker off. Were you nervous for that sixty days? Oh? Yeah, yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: yeah I was. That's all I was thinking about, Spencer.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I just learned that a buddy of mine is the
- 18:45Speaker 1: new world record sick blacktail deer school And uh, that happened,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and you shot the deer, left it with his friend
- 18:56Speaker 1: in Alaska. About ten years later, his buddy's like, I'm
- 19:02Speaker 1: gonna get this scord and he just found out that
- 19:07Speaker 1: he is the world record non typical sick of blacktail.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You's only impressed if he didn't shoot it on Kodiac.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I I want to say he was on Sitka. It's
- 19:20Speaker 1: it's a non typical and the bases on it are
- 19:25Speaker 1: like as round, a bigger round of this microphone, like
- 19:28Speaker 1: five inch base. You're gonna write an article about that
- 19:30Speaker 1: one Spencer, I don't know. I like the idea that
- 19:32Speaker 1: he did the three thousand day drying period though that
- 19:35Speaker 1: thing was bone dry run. Question for the topic is biology.
- 19:40Speaker 1: This next great question comes. It was via Ryan Nicoletti.
- 19:43Speaker 1: This is the only person so far that we've used
- 19:45Speaker 1: two questions from. Thank you Ryan. If you have a
- 19:47Speaker 1: question you think is right from Mead to Trivia, you
- 19:49Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the medid dot com.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Known as the Texas speed Bump, this is one of
- 19:55Speaker 1: the only animals in the world that carries leprosy. Known
- 20:02Speaker 1: as the Texas speed Bump, this is one of the
- 20:04Speaker 1: only animals in the world that carries leprosy. I remember
- 20:14Speaker 1: talking about this in Texas' what's the Harry Potter name? Hey,
- 20:21Speaker 1: did you know the last one? Because we were research
- 20:23Speaker 1: in the huff Buck because I talked to yeah or
- 20:27Speaker 1: you got that right? It was it was in the
- 20:28Speaker 1: documents Steve Oh I had a backup question in case
- 20:34Speaker 1: that specific thing came up. We didn't need to use
- 20:36Speaker 1: the backup question, but I was was prepared and it
- 20:39Speaker 1: never did. Oh yeah, I got you. Does everybody have
- 20:42Speaker 1: an answer? Yea, I feel pretty good about it. What
- 20:43Speaker 1: do you got Rody, I got an answer. Go ahead
- 20:46Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying armadillo, armadillo, armadillo, armadillo.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Everybody got it right? The correct answer is armadillo. Other
- 20:55Speaker 1: animals that have been known to carry leprosy include chimpanzees
- 20:58Speaker 1: and red squirrels. Although the disease is quite common in armadillos,
- 21:02Speaker 1: the CDC says the odds of a human getting it
- 21:05Speaker 1: are incredibly low because about ninety five percent of people
- 21:09Speaker 1: have natural immunity. You should have left it at the
- 21:11Speaker 1: text of speed bump thing. It's two. It's like a
- 21:14Speaker 1: cuty thing. You're like, no, I don't know shit, it's
- 21:15Speaker 1: gonna be an armadillo. But what do you want me
- 21:17Speaker 1: to say? What's one of the only animals in the
- 21:19Speaker 1: world that carries a leprosy? But that's like a pretty
- 21:22Speaker 1: subjective he just said, what all I thought of something?
- 21:25Speaker 1: I've just said a tire or something. The topic is woodsmanship.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We will get a scoreboard update from Phil after this.
- 21:40Speaker 1: How many leaves does poison ivy have? Oh? Shoot, how
- 21:46Speaker 1: many leaves do poison ivy? Doesn't make any sense. It
- 21:50Speaker 1: absolutely makes sense if you took a poison ivy plant
- 21:56Speaker 1: and figured out where it's terminus leaves. This is the
- 22:01Speaker 1: way the questions word. It's stupid. You could have framed
- 22:04Speaker 1: the question a little better, Spencer, this is the episode
- 22:07Speaker 1: we're just gonna is it? Like? I know we just
- 22:11Speaker 1: announced weekly, but are you running out a good question?
- 22:16Speaker 1: Nobody would disagree with this. Oh come on, I know
- 22:20Speaker 1: where you're going at. But it's a stupid question. If
- 22:22Speaker 1: I said how many needles are on my Christmas tree?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Not even close? Do people mean do I have to
- 22:28Speaker 1: count up every needle on the Christmas tree? Or had
- 22:31Speaker 1: to be like, oh, it's a three needle pine, so
- 22:33Speaker 1: it's three or a five needle pine? You got an
- 22:36Speaker 1: answer yet? Yeah? Does everybody have an answer? I guess
- 22:39Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying
- 22:42Speaker 1: three three three three. The whole room got it right.
- 22:45Speaker 1: The correct answer is three. Still stupid question, but they
- 22:49Speaker 1: could have two hundred and sixteen. It's a big plan
- 22:53Speaker 1: because who knows, highly variable, there's even there's even the
- 22:58Speaker 1: rhyme would be, it'd be divisible by three leaves of three.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Let it be. Have you ever heard that one? No
- 23:07Speaker 1: leaves of three? Let it be? Now. I am part
- 23:10Speaker 1: of the fifteen percent of Americans that are immune to
- 23:12Speaker 1: poison ivy. But if you're part of the other eighty
- 23:15Speaker 1: five percent, then you should check out Mark Kenyon's twenty
- 23:18Speaker 1: nineteen article on the meat eater dot com called how
- 23:20Speaker 1: do identify a void and Treat poison ivy? It'll tell
- 23:23Speaker 1: you everything you need to know about this itchy plant. Well,
- 23:26Speaker 1: the plant's not itchy. I don't know. Pois talk to
- 23:34Speaker 1: the worst about being poison ivvy. Now, be honest, you
- 23:37Speaker 1: just had like a brutal running You're gonna elaborate or no? Oh,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I mean I could it was. It was yeah, bad
- 23:49Speaker 1: lasted months, haven't don't you? Neticis think that poison oak
- 23:52Speaker 1: and poison ivy are the same. Another thing, I think
- 23:56Speaker 1: it's the same, kind of like different oil or whatever.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah about there are something where they that it was
- 24:03Speaker 1: They're like phenotypes. I'll have to look them up. Put
- 24:06Speaker 1: that out of the future. Question Phil Hittis with a
- 24:08Speaker 1: scoreboard update. Third place with two points is Cal Then
- 24:13Speaker 1: we have Karan, Dustin Jannis and Steve All with three
- 24:16Speaker 1: points in second place, and then in first place tied
- 24:18Speaker 1: for first place, all with four points, Brody Hayden and
- 24:21Speaker 1: Mark Anybody's game run a question six. The topic is
- 24:36Speaker 1: public lands sex. Great question comes who is via Michael Pattek.
- 24:40Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right from
- 24:41Speaker 1: meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 24:43Speaker 1: the meat eater dot com. What type of federal public
- 24:47Speaker 1: land has the most visitors per year? I'll give you hint.
- 24:50Speaker 1: It's not the National Park Service. What type of federal
- 24:55Speaker 1: public land has the most visitors per year? And the
- 24:59Speaker 1: answer is the National Park Service? Oh yeah, you got
- 25:08Speaker 1: to run that TikTok noise for long time, So I
- 25:10Speaker 1: got to think this through. Is this total number of visitors? Yeah?
- 25:18Speaker 1: What would be the other I don't know, like children
- 25:22Speaker 1: count the same as adults, but it's like number a day.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I wish I could take Spencer outside and ask him
- 25:27Speaker 1: a couple of questions because why no, because the Park Service, Yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 1: they they manage the blank. Yeah, I think that would
- 25:35Speaker 1: mean that's part of the National Park Service. So I
- 25:37Speaker 1: don't think you can call it. Not gonna say anymore,
- 25:39Speaker 1: there might be a real problem. I will tell you
- 25:41Speaker 1: the answer, and I am going to have an absolute
- 25:43Speaker 1: shit fit. The answer is not the National Park Service.
- 25:47Speaker 1: What type of federal public land has the most visitors
- 25:49Speaker 1: would have an absolute ship. Does everybody have an answer? Hayden,
- 25:56Speaker 1: run out of time, Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 26:00Speaker 1: We have Steve saying the National what do you got here? Monument?
- 26:05Speaker 1: National Force? That was my answer. No, this National forest
- 26:09Speaker 1: Hayden saying BLM, cal saying USDA, Dustin saying State, Brody
- 26:14Speaker 1: saying National Forest, Crin saying National Forest, Mark saying National Force,
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yanna saying BLM. The correct answer is Army Corps of Engineers,
- 26:24Speaker 1: which nobody because they drive them with the bridges well
- 26:29Speaker 1: the reservoirs. I suppose the Army Corps of Engineers, who
- 26:33Speaker 1: manages many of America's major water bodies, has about three
- 26:37Speaker 1: hundred and seventy million visitors per year. That's followed by
- 26:40Speaker 1: the National Park Service at three hundred and thirty one million,
- 26:43Speaker 1: US Forest Service at one hundred and forty eight million
- 26:45Speaker 1: and bo r at ninety million. Do you know what
- 26:48Speaker 1: I was gonna have a ship fit about? If it
- 26:50Speaker 1: was like refugees, you're gonna say monuments, That was not
- 26:54Speaker 1: because those are administered by mostly Park Service again Army Corp.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Of Engineer. It's a great question. No one got it right.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's first good question today we're on the question seven.
- 27:05Speaker 1: The topic is hunting was a phenomenal question. Now I
- 27:08Speaker 1: know you're not gonna like this one. The Outdoor Channel
- 27:12Speaker 1: acquired the rerun rights to Duck Dynasty in twenty sixteen.
- 27:17Speaker 1: What network did it originally air on before that? The
- 27:22Speaker 1: Outdoor Channel acquired the rerun rights to Duck Dynasty in
- 27:26Speaker 1: twenty sixteen. What network did it originally air on before that? Oh?
- 27:31Speaker 1: I cockily wrote my answer down. Mhm. Does everybody have
- 27:42Speaker 1: an answer? I think I got it too. Is there
- 27:48Speaker 1: like a specific amount of time you're allowed you just
- 27:52Speaker 1: go by feel just feel again you're saying, he does
- 27:56Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your aunts.
- 28:00Speaker 1: We have Steve saying A and E. Hayden saying, E.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Cal saying what are we saying? Cal? Espn Dustin saying
- 28:10Speaker 1: any Brody saying the History Channel, Krin saying TLC, Mark
- 28:14Speaker 1: saying Travel Channel, and Yanni saying any what what Brody
- 28:18Speaker 1: put oh sweet? The correct answer is an eight. We're
- 28:24Speaker 1: tired now, Yeah, that's what I want to be. Duck
- 28:27Speaker 1: Dynasty aired on Any for eleven seasons between two thousand
- 28:31Speaker 1: and twelve and twenty seventeen. The season two finale was
- 28:34Speaker 1: a Christmas special that became the most watched any episode
- 28:37Speaker 1: in network history, a record the show ended up breaking
- 28:41Speaker 1: three more times. I saw one episode while I was
- 28:44Speaker 1: sick in a hotel room in Vegas. Here in shout
- 28:47Speaker 1: show and old Phil described this SILV engineer Nope Phil,
- 28:53Speaker 1: while Robertson described his dispute he was having with his
- 28:56Speaker 1: neighbor over a barking dog and his whose dog was
- 28:59Speaker 1: barking Phil's dog, and his explanation was just that the
- 29:02Speaker 1: dog was happy to be an American living in America.
- 29:07Speaker 1: And I thought that was great, and I never never
- 29:09Speaker 1: watched another episode. But the show didn't have anything to
- 29:13Speaker 1: do with hunting. I mean, they didn't like show guys
- 29:17Speaker 1: shooting ducks. It was a spin off off of Duck
- 29:21Speaker 1: Commander and Buck Commander. We'll get another scoreboard update after this,
- 29:28Speaker 1: the topic is cooking. The World Champion Squirrel cook Off
- 29:33Speaker 1: is held every year in what state? Oh? My, the
- 29:39Speaker 1: World Champion Squirrel cook Off is held every year in
- 29:43Speaker 1: what state? We've even been invited. I'm just gonna guess.

- 29:54Speaker 1: Yet fifty choices? Yeah? I'll ask yeah again. The World

- 30:22Speaker 1: say that too, That's what I was thinking. I even
- 30:25Speaker 1: had like T shirt about it. Everybody reveal your answers.
- 30:28Speaker 1: We have Steve saying Missouri, Hayden saying Missouri, Cow saying Virginia,
- 30:33Speaker 1: Dustin saying Arkansas, Brody saying Mississippi, Grin saying Arkansas, Mark
- 30:38Speaker 1: saying Missouri. Yanni saying Mississippi. We do ever right answer
- 30:42Speaker 1: in the room? It is Arkansas. Scorecards, Let's go our
- 30:52Speaker 1: very own. Clay Nucome covered the competition in twenty nineteen.
- 30:56Speaker 1: The teams who won first, second, and third were generous
- 30:59Speaker 1: enough to share their recipes with Clay, which you can
- 31:01Speaker 1: find on the mediator dot com. If you want to
- 31:04Speaker 1: learn how to make their award winning squirrel tacos, squirrel dumplings,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and squirrel anceiladas, then go to our website and type
- 31:10Speaker 1: in winning recipes from the World Champion Squirrel cook Off. Hey,
- 31:14Speaker 1: you know when you do like listener feedback and corrections
- 31:16Speaker 1: up top? How came we didn't do where I wrote
- 31:19Speaker 1: in about how you pronounced jaguar. I we're backed up
- 31:25Speaker 1: on that kind of thing. Yeah, I do pronounce that wrong.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I've noticed that folks, folks who like talk about sports.
- 31:36Speaker 1: It's like very common for someone to say Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 31:40Speaker 1: But I'm serious like that. The worst offenders are people
- 31:46Speaker 1: who talk about sports and say Jacksonville Jaguars and have
- 31:49Speaker 1: just been exposed to it so much. I can't I
- 31:51Speaker 1: can't help it. Jaguar. That's what I say, Jaguar. Phil
- 31:54Speaker 1: hit us with a scoreboard update. We have two questions left.
- 31:58Speaker 1: All right, Uh, everyone is still in it except for
- 32:02Speaker 1: Cal I'm sorry, but tied for second place we have
- 32:08Speaker 1: Brodie Curran, Hayden, Jannis Mark, and Stephen. In first place
- 32:11Speaker 1: is Dustin Huff who have trivia guest winner. This might
- 32:18Speaker 1: be the first time I had one out of fifty
- 32:20Speaker 1: and I just paid hargets. Two questions left. This is
- 32:26Speaker 1: question nine. The topic is conservation. This next great question
- 32:29Speaker 1: comes to us via Mike Stephen. If you have a
- 32:32Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meatia to Trivia, you
- 32:34Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the meatia dot com.
- 32:37Speaker 1: This animal was removed from the endangered species list in
- 32:41Speaker 1: nineteen eighty seven and can now be hunted in nine
- 32:45Speaker 1: southern states. What is it? This animal was removed from
- 32:50Speaker 1: the endangered species list in nineteen eighty seven and can
- 32:54Speaker 1: now be hunted in nine southern states. Southern states? What
- 32:58Speaker 1: is it? Nine Southern states? Don't know? Can we be
- 33:04Speaker 1: hunted in any Northern states? Not giving any feedback? Santa
- 33:09Speaker 1: moldry move and the endangered species list in nineteen eighty seven,
- 33:12Speaker 1: can now be hunted in nine southern state. Must be
- 33:15Speaker 1: having a ship fit about something in a minute, man,
- 33:17Speaker 1: nine Southern states. Not in northern states, I believe, I
- 33:26Speaker 1: said southern Southern yep, I said southern Southern states. Those
- 33:30Speaker 1: are states where you can't ice fish. Steve, does everybody
- 33:34Speaker 1: have an answer? You got an answer written down that Okay,
- 33:39Speaker 1: we need you to keep up this pace, go ahead
- 33:41Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying what do
- 33:43Speaker 1: we got? Cormorant, Hayden saying alligator, cal say bird, Dustin
- 33:50Speaker 1: saying pheasant. Never said a bird, alligator? I thought I
- 33:55Speaker 1: said a bird? Nowhere did I say a bird? Oh?
- 33:57Speaker 1: I want to put that down. Nobody said birds out,
- 34:01Speaker 1: Karan saying dove, Mark saying sandhill, Craney, Yanni saying black bear.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It's this. The correct answer is the American alligator. Dude,
- 34:10Speaker 1: you said bird, I never said bird. Son of a bitch?
- 34:14Speaker 1: What'd you write? Brody comes down to We are down
- 34:19Speaker 1: to our last question. Phill one more scoreboard update. Let's
- 34:24Speaker 1: see we've got Brody, Dustin an Hayden now all tied
- 34:27Speaker 1: for first with five points, and then Karen, Yannis and
- 34:30Speaker 1: Mark and Steve with four. So if I had listened,
- 34:34Speaker 1: probably as intently as I was talking, you'd be I'd
- 34:39Speaker 1: be tied for first. That is correct, put a big asterisk.
- 34:44Speaker 1: That would be the last question. The topic is fishing.
- 34:50Speaker 1: This California city has a not named after it that
- 34:54Speaker 1: was invented by offshore tuna anglers who tied it on
- 34:58Speaker 1: heavy iron jigs. This California city has a not named
- 35:03Speaker 1: after it that was invented by offshore tuna anglers who
- 35:07Speaker 1: tied it on heavy iron jigs. Has a what named
- 35:11Speaker 1: after it? A knot like a fishing knot. K n
- 35:14Speaker 1: Ot'll give you a second. It's like one or two things.
- 35:21Speaker 1: It's not give any hints. This California city has a
- 35:23Speaker 1: not named after it that was invented by offshore tuna anglers.
- 35:28Speaker 1: There's a lot on the line here. We may go
- 35:30Speaker 1: to a tiebreaker where like four or five folks, I
- 35:32Speaker 1: got a wicked sun burden but knot California? Did someone
- 35:39Speaker 1: speakable things there? Does it work by this tie the knot? No? Again?
- 35:51Speaker 1: Looking for the California city that has this not named
- 35:54Speaker 1: after it? Does everybody have an answer? Is it a
- 36:00Speaker 1: California city? He'll be like changing this late in the game.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Come on, literally, is everybody good? Marcus? You look like
- 36:10Speaker 1: you're thinking really hard. I'm just trying to go ahead
- 36:13Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying, let me,
- 36:16Speaker 1: let's see it. I don't I didn't write it, but
- 36:18Speaker 1: I can tie it. What what's your answer, pal, Steve
- 36:21Speaker 1: says Palamar Hayden says Palamar, pal saying Palamar, doesn't saying Sacramento,
- 36:26Speaker 1: By saying Santa Barbara saying Malibu, Mark saying San Diego,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and Jana saying san Diego. We do ever correct answer
- 36:35Speaker 1: in the room. Do you guys have any guesses as
- 36:37Speaker 1: to who it is? The correct answer is San Diego.
- 36:45Speaker 1: It is the San Diego, California. No, but I think
- 36:49Speaker 1: it is a mountain. Now the it is the San
- 36:52Speaker 1: Diego jam or the San Diego Not. Where does that
- 36:56Speaker 1: leave us? Phil? Ending could not have tied that for
- 37:00Speaker 1: are you? This leaves us with a five way tie
- 37:05Speaker 1: between Brody, Dustin, Hayden, Jannis and Mark. Never Steve's not
- 37:13Speaker 1: in it? No, because I was too busy talking. Is okay? Repeat?
- 37:20Speaker 1: One more time for you have for you at home?
- 37:21Speaker 1: Stevens taking off his earphones. He's walking out, He's walking on.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I just need to focus on playing and not try
- 37:32Speaker 1: to play Spencer's game to you one more time? Who
- 37:36Speaker 1: we got going to the tyred Brody, Dustin, Hayden, Jannie
- 37:39Speaker 1: and Mark incredible, never been done before in big time, Phil,
- 37:44Speaker 1: Do we have a tiebreaker? Spencer? We will win? Lawyers? Okay,
- 37:50Speaker 1: tire first last We're not done make any sense at all?
- 37:56Speaker 1: First your last, you can be second, you can be third.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Four five. The topic for the tiebreaker is hunting. The
- 38:07Speaker 1: heaviest turkey in nwtf's record books was killed by David
- 38:14Speaker 1: Cody guests in Kentucky in twenty fifteen. How much did
- 38:19Speaker 1: it weigh? The heaviest turkey to the nearest. So the
- 38:24Speaker 1: way you will write your answer is point something, so
- 38:27Speaker 1: you'd write five point five, not five pounds and eight ounces.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Five point five? So I got right? Sixty two? Yes, again,
- 38:37Speaker 1: the heaviest turkey in nwtf's record books, Now they go
- 38:42Speaker 1: to two decimal places. So write your answer to do
- 38:46Speaker 1: two decimal places. Killed in Kentucky in twenty fifteen. How
- 38:50Speaker 1: much did it weigh? We may have Mark take a
- 38:53Speaker 1: victory and his first ever episode. We may have Dustin,
- 38:56Speaker 1: who is representing every trivia guest it's ever joined us
- 39:00Speaker 1: has never won, taking victory. Hey, Brody's an old head.
- 39:04Speaker 1: That wouldn't be very interesting a key one? Heyes? And
- 39:09Speaker 1: Jannis who would be going for his third victory? Hey,
- 39:12Speaker 1: did Tommy Edson already come on and play court and
- 39:17Speaker 1: heavy wins every game? Does everybody hap for you? Tommy,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I do when I played at the go ahead and
- 39:28Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying thirty one point
- 39:33Speaker 1: six one pounds, Dustin saying thirty seven point eight six,
- 39:38Speaker 1: Brody saying thirty nine point two five, Mark saying thirty
- 39:42Speaker 1: two point two five, Yanni saying thirty nine. Now one
- 39:46Speaker 1: of you is within a pound, not in it. You're
- 39:53Speaker 1: not counting. Hold hold up your answers one more time. Here,
- 39:56Speaker 1: let me see him. Somebody is within point two of
- 40:01Speaker 1: the correct answer. Whoa Steve? Who do you think it is? Johnny?
- 40:09Speaker 1: He gets Johnnie? And the winner is Dustin. Correct answer.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It was thirty seven pick six one on the nose.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Well done, Dustin. The man can sing, he can kill
- 40:25Speaker 1: big deer, and he's damn smoke. How do you think
- 40:28Speaker 1: I passed high school? Now, Dustin, our winner gets to
- 40:35Speaker 1: choose where the five hundred dollars donation from meat eater
- 40:38Speaker 1: will go. So who are you going to get? You?
- 40:41Speaker 1: You can pick outside of that too, I can laws
- 40:43Speaker 1: are involved in wildlife concerle, we'll shoot, We'll just do
- 40:46Speaker 1: the National Deer Association. Oh that's right, that's great. How
- 40:50Speaker 1: is that that unbelievable game. Man, that'll put forty something, man,
- 40:56Speaker 1: let's go thirty something game. You know that with a
- 41:01Speaker 1: lot of pressure. But um, as we heard from the
- 41:03Speaker 1: earlier podcast, Dustin is comfortable and high pressure. Yeah, and
- 41:09Speaker 1: he was playing across he was playing across a pretty
- 41:12Speaker 1: big variety of subject matters that I was nervous. That
- 41:15Speaker 1: was like to yes, and this is it's a stacked
- 41:19Speaker 1: field that he's playing against. It's not like he's got
- 41:22Speaker 1: Clay nucom and uh, you know whoever else in here
