- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 2: The rex was not chasing the jeep.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Murray, Murray, you there. You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go
- 0:11Speaker 1: to uh eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 3: It was bo wow that Prime Time. Maybe I had
- 0:18Speaker 3: a crush on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 3: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 3: the game. You're listening to Stucatsen Company.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Jeff Passion has turned into a fucking superstar, and he's
- 0:42Speaker 1: also turned into a bit of a diva because right
- 0:44Speaker 1: before we started recording, he was complaining. I was complimenting him, saying,
- 0:49Speaker 1: you're a fucking superstar because he's a superstar. He's on
- 0:51Speaker 1: mcavee all the time, he's on CNN. He has crossed over.
- 0:55Speaker 3: But now he's a diva.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's all getting to his head because he was complaining
- 1:00Speaker 1: about the hotel that he's staying in right now in
- 1:03Speaker 1: South Florida.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Let me, I was not complaining. I was not complaining.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I was I was merely pointing out the fact that
- 1:13Speaker 4: when you walk into this hotel.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You feel like there have been murders here. I don't.
- 1:22Speaker 4: And here's the thing, Like, when I'm traveling by myself,
- 1:27Speaker 4: I'm just by myself. I don't need a nice I
- 1:29Speaker 4: need I need a bed, I need a shower, my
- 1:35Speaker 4: one DVA thing. And this is this is a little
- 1:37Speaker 4: embarrassing to admit, but I you know it's it's a
- 1:40Speaker 4: h John.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So I don't care.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And I need a blow dryer, No you at all.
- 1:57Speaker 2: But I here's the thing.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I went on TV one too many times and my
- 2:02Speaker 4: mom said to my mom's like, Jeffrey, your hair looks greasy.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I'm like, oh shit, all right, so how do I
- 2:08Speaker 4: how do I combat that?
- 2:09Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, man, when I walked into this place,
- 2:12Speaker 2: I just got a really bad vibe.
- 2:15Speaker 4: And I was trying like I got the least expensive
- 2:19Speaker 4: hotel on ESPN's like travel site. And I was like,
- 2:24Speaker 4: you know, I'm doing the company a favor. I don't
- 2:26Speaker 4: need to say anywhere nice. I don't need to get
- 2:29Speaker 4: upgraded to a sweet or anything like that. I could
- 2:31Speaker 4: just you know, give me a king bed, and give
- 2:34Speaker 4: me a mini fridge, and give me a blow dryer
- 2:36Speaker 4: and I'm good to go. And dude, I walk in
- 2:39Speaker 4: here and it just reeked of sadness. Like I don't
- 2:46Speaker 4: know if it was like a pheromone thing or if
- 2:49Speaker 4: if I just have like this intuition about where crimes
- 2:53Speaker 4: have happened.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But definitely a dead body has been taking that.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Listen, you're in my I mean, there's a fifty to
- 3:00Speaker 1: fifty shot any hotel room you're stay in there's been
- 3:03Speaker 1: a murder. Oh so good. How often does mom call
- 3:09Speaker 1: and critique your segments?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Oh? Mom loves my segments.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Mom's so happy, like she's she's the best. And and
- 3:18Speaker 4: so you know, she like, you know what Jewish guilt
- 3:22Speaker 4: is like? And and Mom, oh yes I do, Yes,
- 3:26Speaker 4: you do, and and mom moms saying you know, like
- 3:30Speaker 4: could you tell me when you're on TV?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Like I enjoy watching you. I appreciate that.
- 3:35Speaker 4: And normally it's it's positive. Normally she's like, that was
- 3:39Speaker 4: a that was a really good segment. You did a
- 3:41Speaker 4: good job. I was like, thanks, Mom, I appreciate that.
- 3:44Speaker 4: And so she just the fact that the fact that
- 3:46Speaker 4: she she takes joy in that.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's always good.
- 3:50Speaker 4: As a kid to deliver a bit of happiness to
- 3:53Speaker 4: your parents, So no time you can do that.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Any of us take advantage of it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yes, the best.
- 3:59Speaker 1: So no blow dryer in the room, so that's, uh,
- 4:01Speaker 1: that's that's problematic for you.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Oh no, there's a blow there's a blow drying here.
- 4:05Speaker 4: And I would have called down and asked. I'll say this,
- 4:09Speaker 4: there's no iron in here. There's a there's a steamer though,
- 4:13Speaker 4: and and I.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Don't feel great about the steamer.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Honestly, it doesn't doesn't make it as crisp as the
- 4:19Speaker 4: iron does.
- 4:20Speaker 2: God damn it, I'm a diva. Holy shit, I'm how
- 4:30Speaker 2: do I just learn this in real time?
- 4:32Speaker 4: I'm talking about steamers versus irons blow dryers.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And I did stay at a hotel.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Last week that had bath sheets instead of towels, And
- 4:42Speaker 4: as I was wrapping this bass sheet around myself, I
- 4:44Speaker 4: was like, boy, a great hotel room.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So yeah, I guess you know good?
- 4:51Speaker 4: All right, Well I'm cooked the rest of the time. Now,
- 4:53Speaker 4: what do you want to talk about?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Well, listen, I want to talk some baseball with you,
- 4:57Speaker 1: perhaps some March madness, but uh, you're a big store
- 5:00Speaker 1: at ESPN. I have scrolled through the hotel options when
- 5:03Speaker 1: I traveled with ESPN choose a better option.
- 5:07Speaker 3: What's the matter with you? There were good options on there.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Make them spend money?
- 5:11Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I know, yeah, I could.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I could, but there's a there's a devoted travel budget
- 5:20Speaker 4: every department has. I don't want the fact that I'm
- 5:25Speaker 4: staying in nicer hotels to include one of my teammates
- 5:28Speaker 4: from potentially pursuing a story that might be good, or
- 5:33Speaker 4: might be interesting, or might be better for the site.
- 5:35Speaker 4: So if I can stay in the murder hotel and
- 5:38Speaker 4: they get to write their story, all good.
- 5:41Speaker 2: That works for me.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Listen, the Jay and Jeff passion, Jeff passion, I call
- 5:45Speaker 1: them passion at the minimum should be JW.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Marriot. It should stand for JW.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Marriott.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Okay, I mean, what are you doing? Man? You're a
- 5:54Speaker 3: store anyway.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I'll say this though, on the subject of hotels, I
- 6:00Speaker 4: am I am something of a married or and I
- 6:05Speaker 4: don't know if you know this.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But really Marriott, yeah, Marriott.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Marriott keeps track of lifetime nights staid in their properties.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Huh what do you what do you think my number is?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Wow?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Lifetime nights the amount of nights Jeff Passing has spent
- 6:23Speaker 1: at a Marriotte Hotel. This is exactly what I want
- 6:25Speaker 1: to talk about. By the way, thank you for taking
- 6:27Speaker 1: me here. What do you guys imagine? Let's take a
- 6:30Speaker 1: guess here, Mike Yea, you want to take a guess here,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'll go mikey A first, Taylor, second, me third, go ahead,
- 6:35Speaker 1: Mike ye I'm gonna.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Go very low, triple digits, like one oh.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Five, wow, one o five, go ahead to I'm gonna
- 6:45Speaker 6: guess seven thousand.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Really, I'm gonna do it like, uh well, one right, right.
- 6:54Speaker 3: His entire life has been in a Marriotte.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I was gonna do prices right and go seven thousand
- 6:58Speaker 1: and one, but that's ridiculous. I have to split the
- 7:00Speaker 1: difference here. I'm going to say, like, I don't know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: twenty five hundred.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Nights, okay, that's honestly, like, if you factor in nights
- 7:10Speaker 4: on the road and in other hotels, it is probably
- 7:13Speaker 4: around twenty five hundred. But in Marriouts alone, right before
- 7:17Speaker 4: I checked into the Murder Hotel, eighteen hundred on the dot.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Congratulations, yeah that is I mean that is quite literally
- 7:28Speaker 1: five years of my life.
- 7:30Speaker 4: In Marriouts, five full ass years in these hotels.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So one would think I could at least get n
- 7:37Speaker 2: upgrade to.
- 7:39Speaker 3: The room to not be in a murder hotel.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, you know the mini fridge in
- 7:46Speaker 2: this room.
- 7:47Speaker 4: You know when the mini fridge gets like the frost
- 7:49Speaker 4: on it and you know that there's a leak somewhere
- 7:51Speaker 4: in it. Yeah, yeah, we got we got a frosty
- 7:54Speaker 4: fridge here. It's it's not ideal I'm looking for I'm
- 7:57Speaker 4: check it out tomorrow. I'm looking forward to that check.
- 8:00Speaker 3: There's someone's head in that frish severed head.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Jeff, I wanted to ask you, man, the World Baseball
- 8:09Speaker 1: Classic has been so much fun. Why do you think
- 8:12Speaker 1: the players and the fans love this thing so much?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Man? It's incredible.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I think I think it comes down to nationalism, honestly,
- 8:22Speaker 4: and like the good kind of nationalism.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah, the kind.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Where you take pride in not necessarily the country you're from,
- 8:33Speaker 7: not necessarily the flag itself, you take pride.
- 8:38Speaker 4: In the base in this case, in the baseball culture
- 8:41Speaker 4: that comes from that country. And that's why I think
- 8:44Speaker 4: the WBC has been such a smash lately. It took
- 8:48Speaker 4: a decade and a half to before it got here
- 8:51Speaker 4: like this has been an event that's been around since
- 8:53Speaker 4: two thousand and six. But I think people are starting
- 8:56Speaker 4: to recognize that, hey, there are different baseball cultures everywhere
- 9:00Speaker 4: in the world. The Dominican Republic is its own unique culture.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Venezuela is its own unique culture. Japan, the United States,
- 9:06Speaker 4: Puerto Rico, we can go on and on and beyond that.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Some of the countries that are in it now are
- 9:13Speaker 4: building cultures right Like look at Italy. Italy is such
- 9:16Speaker 4: an interesting story to me because they're Americans. Pretty much
- 9:21Speaker 4: like there were a couple of Venezuelans of Italian descent there,
- 9:26Speaker 4: I think a Canadian. There are three, I believe like
- 9:30Speaker 4: natural born Italians on there, and like twenty three Americans.
- 9:34Speaker 4: But the Italian American baseball culture is not any different
- 9:39Speaker 4: from the American baseball culture. And yet they understand that
- 9:42Speaker 4: people back in Italy now starting to watch baseball and
- 9:45Speaker 4: that they have the privilege of representing this country that's
- 9:50Speaker 4: just starting on its baseball journey. And I love that.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I love not knowing where it's going to go because
- 9:58Speaker 4: it allows you to build something organically. And you know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: they're leaning into stereotypes, They're leaning into the espresso shots
- 10:08Speaker 4: for home runs and they're leaning into giving out bottles
- 10:10Speaker 4: of wine to the players of the game, and you know,
- 10:13Speaker 4: they're going like this, like all the American Italian stuff
- 10:18Speaker 4: that would you would think they're fully on board with,
- 10:21Speaker 4: but they're having fun playing baseball and they're doing it
- 10:26Speaker 4: with people who grew up in very similar homes to them.
- 10:30Speaker 4: You know, they all had knownahs, they all have their
- 10:33Speaker 4: own Sunday gravy, they all have these things that bring
- 10:37Speaker 4: them together, and then you go out and translate that onto.
- 10:40Speaker 2: The baseball field.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I was talking with somebody who's involved with the Italian
- 10:45Speaker 4: team and he said, this is the purest form of
- 10:48Speaker 4: baseball that I've ever been around. Nobody's getting paid to
- 10:52Speaker 4: do this. We're just doing it for love of the
- 10:54Speaker 4: game and for love of our heritage, and like, what
- 10:58Speaker 4: can be better than that when you feel like you
- 11:00Speaker 4: can positively represent where you came from, where your ancestors
- 11:04Speaker 4: came from, coming to this country and trying to find
- 11:08Speaker 4: a better life, and it turns out they did find
- 11:10Speaker 4: a better life, and that better life is yours.
- 11:13Speaker 2: You're just paying it back to them and hoping that.
- 11:16Speaker 4: You can see a generation of kids who while they
- 11:19Speaker 4: are reared in soccer and in basketball, and in so
- 11:22Speaker 4: many of the sports that really take over Europe. Baseball
- 11:27Speaker 4: has place there too, And if twenty years down the
- 11:30Speaker 4: road we have more Italian players coming over, it would
- 11:32Speaker 4: not shock me in the least.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yes, do you think Major League Baseball is taking notes
- 11:37Speaker 1: or is this thing impossible to replicate with inside of
- 11:40Speaker 1: Major League Baseball season?
- 11:42Speaker 4: You know, I think it's possible to replicate, but I
- 11:47Speaker 4: think it's impossible to do so on a large scale.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I think the replication could come through individual teams. I'm
- 11:55Speaker 4: not advocating that the Miami Marlins go out and sign
- 11:59Speaker 4: all the Minica players, but I'm kind of advocating that
- 12:02Speaker 4: the Miami Marlins go out and sign all the Medican players, because,
- 12:07Speaker 4: like dude, the atmosphere at like Lone Depot Park starting
- 12:14Speaker 4: on March twenty seventh and through the end of October,
- 12:19Speaker 4: it's going to be nothing like this.
- 12:20Speaker 2: We just won't see that.
- 12:22Speaker 4: And you know, I think there are areas where baseball
- 12:26Speaker 4: could do a lot better in embracing Latin American baseball
- 12:31Speaker 4: culture and the idea that you know, Francisco Savelli, the
- 12:36Speaker 4: manager for Team Italy, He's from Venezuela. He you know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: he's played winter ball. He knows everything about it. He said,
- 12:41Speaker 4: this is this is winter Ball in March. It doesn't
- 12:44Speaker 4: just have to be in March, though, Like every every
- 12:48Speaker 4: organization and should have nights where they invite the Latin
- 12:53Speaker 4: community to come out and bring them in and try
- 12:56Speaker 4: and integrate them into the one hundred and sixty two
- 12:59Speaker 4: games and tell players essentially not just players from Latin America,
- 13:04Speaker 4: but players from the United States that this is part
- 13:07Speaker 4: of who we are. This is part of our game,
- 13:09Speaker 4: and we don't just need to appreciate this, we need
- 13:12Speaker 4: to embrace it, we need to integrate it, because, honestly, dude,
- 13:16Speaker 4: it's like the best part the reason that these games
- 13:20Speaker 4: have been as fun as they are, beyond the quality
- 13:23Speaker 4: of the ball itself, is just seeing how into it
- 13:26Speaker 4: the players are. Yes, they are, and you see those
- 13:31Speaker 4: individual cultures come out in real time, and it's a
- 13:35Speaker 4: beautiful thing to witness.
- 13:47Speaker 6: Jeff I was at the game to root on Italy.
- 13:50Speaker 6: The crowd was to be fair, probably ninety five percent
- 13:53Speaker 6: Venezuelan last night. But my problem with the World Baseball
- 13:56Speaker 6: Classic they played one Italian song all night. Every other
- 14:01Speaker 6: song was Hispanic. I kind of felt like that took
- 14:03Speaker 6: our crowd out of it.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Jeff, Yeah, I mean it seems it seems a proper
- 14:11Speaker 4: ratio of fans to music, Like if it's ninety five
- 14:16Speaker 4: to five and it's like nineteam to one, like Taylor,
- 14:20Speaker 4: the Matt kind of checks. I hate to say it, sorry,
- 14:25Speaker 4: like you got to play to your crowd. And that
- 14:29Speaker 4: was a Venezuelan home game, and I think the final,
- 14:32Speaker 4: it's not going to be a complete home game, but
- 14:35Speaker 4: I think Venezuelans are going to strongly outnumber American fans there.
- 14:40Speaker 4: And I know Team USA is feeling like this is
- 14:44Speaker 4: going to be a road game for them.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Tonight on their home, you know, on their country's turf.
- 14:48Speaker 1: No less, what do you say to guys like Taylor
- 14:50Speaker 1: who can't root for Roman Anthony because he's a Yankee
- 14:53Speaker 1: fan and refuses to root for a Red Sox even
- 14:56Speaker 1: though it helps Team US A.
- 15:00Speaker 4: It's it's where your loyalty lies. That's a that's a
- 15:03Speaker 4: very it's a very fair question. And there are some
- 15:05Speaker 4: people who their loyalty is with their country. I you know,
- 15:09Speaker 4: I have friends who are fans of individual teams and
- 15:12Speaker 4: it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. If the
- 15:15Speaker 4: Dominican Republic is playing, that's who they are rooting for.
- 15:18Speaker 4: That's where their soul is. But some people's souls are
- 15:21Speaker 4: with their their hometown teams, and that's okay too. I
- 15:25Speaker 4: never want to tell someone Stu how to fan, right,
- 15:28Speaker 4: you fan the way that you want to fan. As
- 15:31Speaker 4: long as you're watching, as long as you're enjoying sports,
- 15:34Speaker 4: then it's serving a purpose for you in your life.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And I love that.
- 15:39Speaker 4: That's what sports can provide people, not just a respite
- 15:43Speaker 4: from everyday issues, but something that they feel like that
- 15:47Speaker 4: they can invest.
- 15:48Speaker 2: In and that they have passioned about.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Dude, we as we get older, like I mean, things
- 15:56Speaker 4: that you can really like lean into. Is this is
- 15:59Speaker 4: an integral part of my life, that this is like
- 16:01Speaker 4: part of my identity. I think those become fewer and
- 16:05Speaker 4: farther between. So if somebody wants to root for the
- 16:08Speaker 4: Yankees over their home country, be my guest. But if
- 16:12Speaker 4: someone says I'm a Team USA fan, and even though
- 16:15Speaker 4: Roman Anthony is a redstock and I'm a Yankees fan,
- 16:18Speaker 4: I'm still gonna be cheering him on.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Hey, good for you. Do your thing, you don't.
- 16:22Speaker 5: You don't have to, Jeff, I will Taylor grow up
- 16:24Speaker 5: and be an American?
- 16:25Speaker 4: Right? Uh?
- 16:26Speaker 3: Speaking, he is, he's rooting for Team Italy. I mean, yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 3: grow up and be an American? All right?
- 16:33Speaker 5: Speaking of American and national pride? What do you make
- 16:38Speaker 5: of the hate school bl is getting considering how he
- 16:43Speaker 5: is no longer pitching because he wants to focus on Detroit,
- 16:47Speaker 5: because I maintained there's really only one way for him
- 16:50Speaker 5: to sort of win win back the good graces of
- 16:54Speaker 5: the people the United States, and that's basically when they
- 16:57Speaker 5: take the field tonight, he walks out onto the and
- 17:00Speaker 5: takes the mound because yeah, they do a wrestling thing
- 17:07Speaker 5: where they play that school both music.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yes, but past is about to tell you that's not
- 17:10Speaker 3: going to happen. So oh, I'm sure it's not going
- 17:13Speaker 3: to happen.
- 17:14Speaker 4: I mean, he's here, like he's in Miami. He drove to,
- 17:18Speaker 4: he drove to, he drove down from. Okay, can I
- 17:22Speaker 4: just say yes, good Mike, if you had the opportunity
- 17:31Speaker 4: to make four hundred million dollars and the difference between
- 17:36Speaker 4: you making four hundred million and you making I mean,
- 17:41Speaker 4: if you know, God forbid, he gets hurt like he
- 17:45Speaker 4: would sign a one year contract and then go back
- 17:47Speaker 4: out on the market. But point being, when you have
- 17:50Speaker 4: four hundred million dollars sitting in front of you, and
- 17:53Speaker 4: beyond that, when you have told the organization that you
- 17:57Speaker 4: work for you're going to do this, this, and this,
- 18:01Speaker 4: and they set up all of their plans for all
- 18:04Speaker 4: of the other pitchers on their team around your schedule,
- 18:09Speaker 4: is it not like an inherently selfish thing to do
- 18:12Speaker 4: to say, I'm having such a good time here, guys,
- 18:15Speaker 4: let's fuck up everyone else's program in pursuit of this.
- 18:19Speaker 4: So you have, like, you have two things that I
- 18:22Speaker 4: think are kind of compelling in Trek Schoopl's case. Now,
- 18:25Speaker 4: if you want to argue he never should have participated
- 18:27Speaker 4: in the first place, then then that's that's fine. But
- 18:31Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I don't look at a guy wanting to
- 18:34Speaker 4: represent his country in the way that he is best
- 18:38Speaker 4: capable of doing is anything but a positive. He wants
- 18:41Speaker 4: to be part of something that could be really special,
- 18:45Speaker 4: and sometimes you're limited in your ability to be part
- 18:47Speaker 4: of something, but that doesn't lessen the desire you have
- 18:50Speaker 4: for it. It doesn't make you a lesser person for
- 18:53Speaker 4: understanding that there are different priorities in life, and you
- 18:56Speaker 4: have to weigh out your priorities, and if someone else's
- 18:58Speaker 4: priorities are different than yours, is well, honestly, what the
- 19:02Speaker 4: hell do you know?
- 19:03Speaker 7: Like?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Why is anyone in a position to tell Tarek Scooble
- 19:07Speaker 4: how he should be thinking right now or how he
- 19:10Speaker 4: should be approaching his life? You think he hasn't sat
- 19:13Speaker 4: there thinking this through, grinding and over in his mind
- 19:17Speaker 4: for days, for weeks, for months.
- 19:19Speaker 2: About how this thing's going to land.
- 19:21Speaker 4: And look, we all make bad decisions sometimes, we all
- 19:25Speaker 4: make mistakes. We all look back with regret on them.
- 19:28Speaker 4: But man, I just have a difficult time looking at
- 19:32Speaker 4: a guy who wants everything and questioning him for it,
- 19:36Speaker 4: because that's what he wants. He wanted to taste of
- 19:38Speaker 4: the WBC, he wants to be a good teammate to
- 19:41Speaker 4: the guys he's going to spend one hundred and sixty
- 19:43Speaker 4: two with, and he wants to get his bag. And
- 19:45Speaker 4: who among us hasn't wanted to have at least a
- 19:48Speaker 4: little piece of everything. To shit on someone for doing that,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I think is so shortsighted and so like blinks, such
- 19:58Speaker 4: blinkered thinking. And you know, if Derek Scooper were a dick,
- 20:03Speaker 4: maybe it would be a different story. But like he's
- 20:06Speaker 4: as good of a guy and as good of a
- 20:08Speaker 4: teammate as you're gonna find. And so I just I
- 20:12Speaker 4: can't join in this parade by all means you are
- 20:15Speaker 4: entitled to your opinion.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you're just wrong, right, You're just wrong.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I would say, I would just say this. I tell
- 20:22Speaker 5: my my my children, my young children all the time.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Can't always get what you want.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I get that you want to be part of it,
- 20:27Speaker 5: and I get that you want to make your money
- 20:29Speaker 5: and do all that.
- 20:30Speaker 3: You got to pick one you're going to sacrifice somewhere, yes.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Mike, But Mike, but Mike, he did get what he wants.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Yes, well, because he's that you can't get all that
- 20:41Speaker 3: and the love. You can't get all of that and
- 20:43Speaker 3: the love.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, And you know what, I think it says
- 20:46Speaker 4: something about him that he's willing to sacrifice love for
- 20:49Speaker 4: the pursuit of the things that are important to him.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Is that not what all of us would do?
- 20:53Speaker 4: There, Like if the if the public saying things about us,
- 20:56Speaker 4: but if we feel convicted in our decisions, then you know,
- 21:00Speaker 4: that that's what athletes do, athletes and tune us out.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Well most of them can, some of them not not
- 21:07Speaker 2: so good at that.
- 21:08Speaker 4: But but I think trek school is going to be
- 21:11Speaker 4: just fine right now.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Well, the problem is he gave us a taste, and
- 21:15Speaker 1: everyone knows how talented he is, and now everyone wants
- 21:17Speaker 1: to win this thing, Jeff, and so they want more
- 21:19Speaker 1: school ball. I mean, listen, he's not Paul Skiings. You
- 21:22Speaker 1: know what the p and Paul stands for patriot. I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 1: that's what you do. You go out there, you throw it.
- 21:27Speaker 1: You don't worry about contracts. You go out there, you
- 21:30Speaker 1: throw it for the love of game and the love
- 21:31Speaker 1: of country. I don't mind telling people what they should
- 21:34Speaker 1: do with their careers.
- 21:35Speaker 3: How about that.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh, I'm shocked to hear them.
- 21:40Speaker 4: I mean, you have, you have, indeed made a career
- 21:43Speaker 4: telling people what's right and wrong for them.
- 21:45Speaker 2: So maybe I'm the wrong guy to be.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I might just I might just.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Be the other side of the same Jewish coin. Like
- 21:51Speaker 2: it's great, it's perfect.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Now, your job is to be responsible, to be a journalist,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and my job is to be a gas bag and
- 21:58Speaker 1: tell people how to live in.
- 22:03Speaker 3: God.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Jeff if you could take one person from the World
- 22:06Speaker 6: Baseball Classic and put them on a contender for this season,
- 22:09Speaker 6: who would you pick?
- 22:10Speaker 2: Oh? Good question, hmm, very good, Like can I take
- 22:16Speaker 2: Show Hao time?
- 22:19Speaker 4: I think he's yes, yeah, you're saying oh, you're saying
- 22:24Speaker 4: like a non.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Yeah you want you to say Junior Camanaro.
- 22:27Speaker 6: I think I feel bad that Junior Camonaro has to
- 22:30Speaker 6: go back to Tampa Bay after this, Right, it's a letdown.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yes, I yeah, I get that. I mean, I don't know,
- 22:38Speaker 2: I don't Yeah, the Rays are in a really tough.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Division, and I would love to see Junior and Caventaro
- 22:44Speaker 4: playing out that we're baseball. I mean, the easy answer
- 22:47Speaker 4: is Paul Skeans. But I think Pittsburgh might be good
- 22:51Speaker 4: this year. Like Pittsburgh's rotation is nasty. I don't know.
- 22:56Speaker 4: If you guys have seen Bubba Chandler fast fall up
- 22:59Speaker 4: to one hundred, filthy, change up, good breaking stuff.
- 23:03Speaker 2: You know they have Brax and Ashcraft.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Who is very good as schemes at the top of
- 23:09Speaker 4: the rotation, Jared Jones coming back, like the Pirates have
- 23:14Speaker 4: a chance, and especially I think if Connor Griffin it
- 23:17Speaker 4: shorts up is as good as as we all think
- 23:19Speaker 4: he's gonna be like the Pirates have a chance to
- 23:21Speaker 4: make some noise this year. So yeah, I think I
- 23:23Speaker 4: think Kemonaro is a decent answer. I mean, I think
- 23:26Speaker 4: the Royals are going to contend. But the Royals have
- 23:28Speaker 4: like won the WBC, you know, between Bobby Witt playing
- 23:33Speaker 4: like he has, Vinnie pas Quentino is the captain of
- 23:35Speaker 4: Team Italy hitting three homers in the game, Jack cagleone,
- 23:40Speaker 4: and on Venezuela, the captain of Venezuela, Salvador Perez, their
- 23:43Speaker 4: catcher mikel Garcia, their third basement. Like, the Royals have
- 23:46Speaker 4: had a good WBC and will be interesting to see
- 23:49Speaker 4: just how much like this translates into the season. Like
- 23:52Speaker 4: that's always a fascinating thing to keep an eye on.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Who takes the WBC momentum and actually moves it forward
- 23:59Speaker 4: in the MLB?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Are you surprised, Jeff that the United States is such
- 24:03Speaker 1: an overwhelming favorite tonight?
- 24:06Speaker 2: No, because of a couple of things.
- 24:09Speaker 4: Number One, I think they had the better starting pitcher
- 24:11Speaker 4: with Nolan McClain compared to Eduardo Rodriguez. Number Two, you
- 24:14Speaker 4: look at their lineup, I know the US really hasn't
- 24:17Speaker 4: hit much this tournament, but still the names of the names,
- 24:20Speaker 4: the pedigrees are the pedigrees. But on top of that,
- 24:23Speaker 4: the US's bullpen is rested and good, and Venezuela's bullpen
- 24:28Speaker 4: had to throw seven to two thirds innings last night
- 24:31Speaker 4: after cater Montero didn't get very deep into his start,
- 24:34Speaker 4: and it's gonna be tough on Omar Lopez. Venezuela was
- 24:39Speaker 4: manager to try and figure that thing out. But I
- 24:41Speaker 4: give Venezuela credit. Like they were trailing an Italian team
- 24:44Speaker 4: that hadn't lost the game in the WBC and seventh
- 24:48Speaker 4: inning comes around two outs, single single, single, single, Like
- 24:52Speaker 4: they're not trying to hit home runs. They're just trying
- 24:55Speaker 4: to get the blonde play and hit it hard. And Venezuela,
- 24:58Speaker 4: top to the bottom of that lineup capable of doing that.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Roman Anthony is he a top ten player in Major
- 25:04Speaker 1: League Baseball already?
- 25:07Speaker 2: Not yet. I think he's going to get there pretty soon, though.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Right is Like that's a chance to be an all
- 25:12Speaker 3: time right, yes.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Look he's twenty one, man, like, I think he's got
- 25:19Speaker 4: a chance. I hate saddling guys with this young in
- 25:24Speaker 4: their career. Roman Anthony has a chance to be a
- 25:26Speaker 4: Hall of Famer, Like, that's how talented he is. And
- 25:29Speaker 4: we have no idea how he's going to age, We
- 25:31Speaker 4: have no idea you know, health going forward.
- 25:34Speaker 2: But just in terms of tools.
- 25:36Speaker 4: And mentality, he's about as good of a young players
- 25:40Speaker 4: you're going to find in baseball right now.
- 25:41Speaker 1: All right, I'm very nervous about this, Jeff, because Taylor
- 25:44Speaker 1: has an issue with something that you wrote. I will
- 25:46Speaker 1: leave it to Taylor to explain that to you. Good luck, Taylor,
- 25:49Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 25:50Speaker 6: So, Jeff, first off, I read all your articles. I
- 25:52Speaker 6: consider myself. I was between a pass stan or a
- 25:55Speaker 6: past fan. Which one do you prefer?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Neither?
- 26:00Speaker 3: How about a pass night.
- 26:03Speaker 2: We got to do better, fellas.
- 26:05Speaker 3: We will do better, I promise you. So it was you.
- 26:08Speaker 6: It was your article where for each team you gave
- 26:12Speaker 6: fantasy baseball advice for said team.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Your advice for the Yankees, he knows.
- 26:21Speaker 6: His advice for the Yankees was, hey, try to get
- 26:24Speaker 6: Aaron Judges.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, So so can I can I walk you
- 26:29Speaker 4: through like the mechanics of how this works?
- 26:31Speaker 2: Please?
- 26:33Speaker 4: When I When I'm doing these capsules for every team,
- 26:37Speaker 4: there are just certain guys whose names I feel like
- 26:40Speaker 4: I have to get in there because I have to
- 26:42Speaker 4: say something about them, and the other two categories. For
- 26:47Speaker 4: the Yankees, I had better fits, and I not Taylor.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Did I not acknowledge the absurdity of saying go for
- 26:54Speaker 4: Aaron Judge. This was more informed by a my fantasy league,
- 27:01Speaker 4: which is an auction league. And I look at auction
- 27:05Speaker 4: leagues as like pay as much as you need to
- 27:08Speaker 4: to get Aaron Judge. So perhaps it was a little
- 27:11Speaker 4: bit of a niche like fantasy advice. And I acknowledge
- 27:15Speaker 4: it wasn't the best look. It wasn't my finest work
- 27:17Speaker 4: by any means, and I do deserve to get called
- 27:20Speaker 4: out on.
- 27:20Speaker 2: It, just as you did for a past fan and.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Past fanses like we're workshopping those.
- 27:29Speaker 1: You know, it was terrible. But I do understand his outrage.
- 27:34Speaker 1: It seems like you mailed that one age yet it does.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I mean I understand what he said.
- 27:37Speaker 4: No, that's reasonable, yes, And I mean I didn't look
- 27:41Speaker 4: at it like I was mailing it in like it
- 27:42Speaker 4: was an active choice to get Aaron Judge in there,
- 27:45Speaker 4: because I feel like if you talk about the twenty
- 27:47Speaker 4: twenty six Yankees without talking about Aaron Judge, you're not
- 27:50Speaker 4: necessarily doing the best, and I think like their season
- 27:57Speaker 4: hinges on others more than it does. Well, now it
- 28:01Speaker 4: probably doesn't. I probably should have just put him in
- 28:03Speaker 4: that category. Sorry, guys, Thank you, thank you Taylor for
- 28:08Speaker 4: call me out of that. I'll make sure next year
- 28:10Speaker 4: not to give advice and get Aaron jen and fantasy next.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Well, thank you for acknowledging that. We acknowledge our nickname stank.
- 28:20Speaker 1: We will work on it better. We will work on
- 28:21Speaker 1: something more better than what was presented to you. Just
- 28:24Speaker 1: looking at Major League Baseball, looking at the season, the
- 28:27Speaker 1: upcoming season, Jeff, because I think we're all caught up
- 28:29Speaker 1: in the World Baseball Classic.
- 28:30Speaker 3: We forget.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Oh, there's a Major League Baseball season to be played,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and it's going to be played very soon. The second
- 28:36Speaker 1: best team in the non Dodger Division, the team most likely,
- 28:40Speaker 1: which is all the other teams, the team most likely
- 28:43Speaker 1: to win the World Series if it's not the La Dodgers.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Wow, it's uh.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Let's guys, let's not forget.
- 28:54Speaker 4: The Mariners got to Game seven of the ALCS against
- 28:56Speaker 4: the Blue Jays last year, and the blue Jays took
- 28:58Speaker 4: the Dodgers to Game seven of the World Series, so
- 29:01Speaker 4: I don't know that I'm entirely going out on a
- 29:03Speaker 4: limb here. They added Brendon Donovan this offseason. Their rotation
- 29:08Speaker 4: with Brian wu and Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Luis Cassio
- 29:13Speaker 4: like it. It is a very good and very deep rotation,
- 29:17Speaker 4: especially if Bryce Miller gets healthy. He's got two extra
- 29:20Speaker 4: miles on his fastball. This spring looks good. Bullpen's been
- 29:23Speaker 4: tightened up, and they brought Joshnaylor back. Cal Rowley runner
- 29:27Speaker 4: up in the MVP, Julio Rodriguez awesome, Randy Rose Arena
- 29:31Speaker 4: always consistent. They've got a tremendous minor league system, and
- 29:36Speaker 4: a couple of those guys could graduate this year.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Like that, it's I.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Mean, it's a really, really talented baseball team, and at
- 29:44Speaker 4: the end of the day, I am always betting on
- 29:46Speaker 4: talent other teams that could.
- 29:48Speaker 2: I like the Yankees a lot.
- 29:49Speaker 4: I know they're sort of running it back, and same
- 29:51Speaker 4: with the Phillies, but they're running back like ninety five
- 29:54Speaker 4: plus win teams. There are worse things to do than
- 29:58Speaker 4: to have a team that was excellent and say you know,
- 30:00Speaker 4: let's try that again and listen. Baseball fans can can
- 30:05Speaker 4: be a little bit spoiled because there's so much movement
- 30:09Speaker 4: in the off season and so many.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Players who are available that it's like we go out
- 30:15Speaker 2: and get some of that.
- 30:17Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, I think season
- 30:21Speaker 4: moves or off season overhauls can be a little bit
- 30:24Speaker 4: overrated just because you have no idea how bringing a
- 30:28Speaker 4: bunch of new players in they're gonna mesh with the
- 30:30Speaker 4: culture there, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
- 30:33Speaker 4: So if I see something that has been proven to work,
- 30:36Speaker 4: I'm usually going to lean in that direction.
- 30:38Speaker 1: We'll get you out here in just a second. Have
- 30:40Speaker 1: you filled out your NCAA tournament bracket yet?
- 30:43Speaker 3: Have you done that? Do you have a final four yet?
- 30:46Speaker 2: No? I have literally no idea.
- 30:49Speaker 4: If you ask me who the one seeds are, I
- 30:51Speaker 4: could tell you Duke.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Right, because you're guessing, and you're the way well better
- 30:57Speaker 1: than fifty percent of the time.
- 30:58Speaker 3: He's going to be right if he guesses Duke. So yes, yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 3: I got nothing else.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Wait, so are you expecting if Team USA pulls this
- 31:07Speaker 1: off tonight? Are we expecting a party into the wee hours?
- 31:10Speaker 1: In South Beach tonight and will Jeff pass and be
- 31:12Speaker 1: following the team around if indeed that happens.
- 31:16Speaker 4: If I didn't have an eight o'clock flow to Phoenix
- 31:20Speaker 4: tomorrow morning, I one hundred percent would be out there
- 31:23Speaker 4: like after championships, like going to the party and and
- 31:28Speaker 4: just like observing it all. Some of the best reporting
- 31:31Speaker 4: that I get comes from like when a team wins,
- 31:35Speaker 4: and not just because like they've been drinking and they
- 31:37Speaker 4: talk a lot, but you you know, you see, you
- 31:41Speaker 4: see when people win something together.
- 31:45Speaker 2: You see like where the real love is.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Because when you're when you're celebrating something that's as meaningful
- 31:52Speaker 4: as a championship, even for like a tournament like the
- 31:54Speaker 4: WBC that's been around only twenty years and the tournament
- 31:58Speaker 4: itself alf is less than two weeks, Like there's still
- 32:02Speaker 4: bonds that get formed, and that's where the best stories
- 32:05Speaker 4: come from. Like that's that's the human stuff that I
- 32:08Speaker 4: got into this business frankly to write about. And you
- 32:12Speaker 4: don't really see it better than when people win championships.
- 32:15Speaker 6: If they partied so hard when they thought they advanced, Jeff,
- 32:18Speaker 6: I can't wait to see when they win a championship.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Don't disagree. But is South Beach this team scene?
- 32:29Speaker 3: No? I mean.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I think yes, Scottsdale, right, Venezuela, it's perfect.
- 32:36Speaker 3: I mean.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah, like, is Tim gonna show up at eleven?
- 32:46Speaker 3: No?
- 32:46Speaker 1: No, but Venezuela will, Jeff. We appreciate it. We know
- 32:52Speaker 1: it's a busy time for you. Thank you, you're a superstar.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And stay safe in that hotel.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Man, I'm gonna do my best. I hope there's no
- 33:00Speaker 2: chalk outline of me tomorrow, fellas if so, r I.
- 33:03Speaker 1: P all right, man, We're sorry to have upset you
- 33:08Speaker 1: with the with the fantasy question.
- 33:10Speaker 3: It feels it feels like, no, I'm not my question
- 33:14Speaker 3: upset him? Yeah, no it was.
- 33:17Speaker 2: No, it was the right thing to call me out.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Dude.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Am I ever actually upset?
- 33:22Speaker 4: No?
- 33:22Speaker 1: Never, No, I've never seen you upset. I did see
- 33:25Speaker 1: you on CNN, and I was very thrilled to see that.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that was that was well? Did you I mean
- 33:30Speaker 2: did you see the end?
- 33:31Speaker 4: He did not tell me he was going to say
- 33:33Speaker 4: something like, uh, yeah, your mom watches CNN.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Do you want to say anything to her?
- 33:38Speaker 4: And I should have been like, fuck you, mom, traumatize
- 33:42Speaker 4: me as a child.
- 33:45Speaker 2: No, it was. It was very awkward. I was like, hi, Mom,
- 33:48Speaker 2: I made it to CNN, which is such a thing
- 33:51Speaker 2: to say. I just yeah, I fumbled.
- 33:55Speaker 1: That one a little bit, but fuck you mom is
- 33:57Speaker 1: not what you Yeah, I probably should have done that.
- 34:02Speaker 3: It would have been.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Great if you did that. Jeff, we appreciate it. Enjoy
- 34:05Speaker 1: the game tonight. Safe travels out to Arizona. You are
- 34:09Speaker 1: the best man. We appreciate it.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Thank you boys, great talking, see you, Assume
