- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 36! Can you believe it? I'm feeling a little thirsty today. Lucas: Thirsty? Perfect. Today we're talking about drinks in Spanish. You know, we did food a while back — bread, water... Luna: Oh yeah, episode 16! That was a good one. Lucas: Right. So today we'll expand a bit. Let's start with a word you already know: agua. Luna: Agua. Water. I remember that one. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's add two new ones. Café. Luna: Café. Coffee. That's easy! Lucas: Yeah, it's a cognate. And leche. Luna: Leche. Milk. Got it. Lucas: Great. So we have agua, café, leche. The fun part is putting them into phrases. Let's start with 'I want water.' In Spanish: Quiero agua. Luna: Quiero agua. Lucas: Yes! Quiero comes from the verb querer, to want. So 'I want' is quiero. So 'I want coffee' is... Luna: Quiero café. Lucas: Perfect. And 'I want milk'? Luna: Quiero leche. Lucas: You're a natural! Now, imagine you're at a cafe. You can say Quiero café. But if you want to be polite, add 'por favor' at the end. Luna: Quiero café, por favor. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice that a bit. I'll ask you '¿Qué quieres?' and you answer. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: ¿Qué quieres? Luna: Quiero agua, por favor. Lucas: Perfect. And another? Luna: Quiero leche, por favor. Lucas: Great! Now let's make it a little more natural. Sometimes you might want to say 'a coffee' or 'a milk' — in Spanish, you can use 'un' before masculine words and 'una' before feminine. But café and leche are masculine and feminine? Let's see: café is masculine, so 'un café'. Leche is feminine, so 'una leche'. And agua — even though it's feminine, we say 'el agua' for pronunciation. So for ordering, you can say 'Un café, por favor' or 'Una leche, por favor'. Luna: So 'Un café, por favor' means 'A coffee, please'? Lucas: Yes! And 'Una leche, por favor'. But you could also just say 'Quiero café' without the article. Both work. Let's practice with 'un' and 'una'. Luna: Okay. Un café, por favor. Lucas: Good. Now try 'una leche'. Luna: Una leche, por favor. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're at a cafe. I'll be the waiter and you're the customer. Luna: Alright! Lucas: Buenos días. ¿Qué quieres? Luna: Buenos días. Quiero un café, por favor. Lucas: Muy bien. ¿Y algo más? Luna: Sí, una leche también, por favor. Lucas: Perfecto. So that's a real interaction. Let's hear the key phrases one more time: Quiero agua, Quiero café, Quiero leche. And for ordering with the article: Un café, por favor. Una leche, por favor. Luna: Wait, what about water with 'un'? 'Un agua'? Lucas: Good question. Actually, we say 'un agua' even though agua is feminine, because the stress on the first syllable makes it take 'un' instead of 'una'. So yes, 'un agua, por favor' is fine. Luna: Un agua, por favor. Got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick review. I'll say the English, you say the Spanish. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Water. Luna: Agua. Lucas: Coffee. Luna: Café. Lucas: Milk. Luna: Leche. Lucas: I want coffee. Luna: Quiero café. Lucas: A milk, please. Luna: Una leche, por favor. Lucas: You did great! Now, before we go, let's hear those phrases one more time in a little story. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: You're at a cafe. You say: 'Hola, quiero un café, por favor.' The waiter brings it. Then you want water: 'Y un agua, por favor.' Perfect. Luna: Hola, quiero un café, por favor. Y un agua, por favor. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want milk, you say 'una leche'. All set. Luna: This is really useful. I can already imagine ordering at a Spanish cafe. Lucas: That's the goal. So practice these: agua, café, leche. Quiero agua, quiero café, quiero leche. And don't forget the polite 'por favor'. Luna: Un café, por favor. Una leche, por favor. Un agua, por favor. I'm ready for my next trip. Lucas: Awesome. That's it for episode 36 of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Keep practicing these drink words and phrases. See you next time! Luna: ¡Hasta luego!
