- 1:26for Fanatics Vest. Now, while it's Fanatics Friday, I've got to say
- 1:30yesterday was D Day, right. We covered that a little bit on the
- 1:34podcast, and listen to Navy veteran in New York City Veteran Hall of Famer
- 1:40Arthur Grabiner. But I looked this morning again at my Twitter feed and I
- 1:48reposted this earlier yesterday. But Lindsay Bera, the Graham, daughter of Yogi
- 1:56Bearra, posted about her grandfather and how her grandpa had an involvement very much
- 2:05so with Normandy. She writes. On June sixth, nineteen forty four,
- 2:09Seamen's second Class Lawrence P. Bearra was in a thirty six foot US Navy
- 2:15LCSs off of Omaha Beach with orders to shoot anything that came below the clouds.
- 2:23Eisenhower told us to go, so we went, Grandpa said, and
- 2:28that was that for so many men. Hashtag never Forget D Day. Eighty
- 2:34Yankees Yogi Bearra Museum, whom I reposted on my Instagram today said this about
- 2:43the service of Yogi Bearra, who not only served the Navy, by the
- 2:47way, and I should say, not only won ten rings as a Yankee
- 2:53catcher, but served the Navy. Think about that, Yogi Bear Museum on
- 2:59eighty years years ago today. On June sixth, nineteen forty four, second
- 3:04classman, a second class Seaman, Lawrence P. Barra, participated in the
- 3:08invasion of d Day As a gunner's mate. Yogi was responsible for the operation
- 3:14and maintenance of all weapons and ordinance aboard a thirty six foot rocket boat,
- 3:20while also manning one of the ship's mate machine guns throughout the mission. In
- 3:32fact, they go on to say that the College Aretha Franklin in Jersey,
- 3:40France, researched individual Americans who took part in the invasion, and they learned
- 3:46about Yogi's US Navy's service and Yankee's career, then honored him on Omaha Beach
- 3:53by etching Yogi in there in the sand. How cool is that? Go
- 4:00follow Yogi Bear Museum, Go follow Lindsey Bearra for not just you know,
- 4:04baseball Yogi, but the life of Yogi Berra. If you're so inclined to
- 4:11it's a great She's a great follow. Yogi Bear Museum is historical and incredible.
- 4:16And what's amazing to me is that Yogi was very much so honored yesterday
- 4:27by not just the posts about him on D Day and his efforts while serving
- 4:34our great country America. I mean, the fact that he took time away
- 4:40to serve our country stands out maybe more to me than the ten rings he
- 4:46won, because that's the kind of person. He truly was an amazing person
- 4:51beyond the field. I got to know him over the years and I miss
- 4:56him every day. I know he and Pop might be chatting up up there,
- 5:00gotta say that, but he was always kind to my Dad and I
- 5:03and I just want to say, Yogi, thank you for your service.
- 5:08And I believe you were with the Yankees last night because on June sixth,
- 5:12twenty twenty four, eighty years after Number eight stormed the Norman the beaches of
- 5:17Normandy, right, he was part of that invasion to protect our world,
- 5:23protect our country in World War two, eighty years after D Day, the
- 5:29Yankees scored eight runs and extended their wind streak to eight. Think about that.
- 5:35What number did Yogi bearwar? The number eight? And what was the
- 5:42final score last night? In the Bronx. The Yanks won by the score
- 5:46of get this eight to five, and they extended their win streak to eight.
- 5:55That is Yogi Bear's spirit all over the stadium. Last it was almost
- 6:00like Yogi Bear a Day all over again. And Yogi bear a Day was,
- 6:05in fact twenty five years ago the night the day of the Perfect Game
- 6:10by David Kohne. So, Yogi, thank you for your service, and
- 6:15thank you for reading. Such a kind man, a kind gentleman, a
- 6:19kind person to all around you. And it was an honor to get to
- 6:25know you, and that you signed my book of Wit and know we miss
- 6:29you, but we always think about Yogi. And for eighty years later,
- 6:38the Yankees to score the same number that you wore. Now that's why I
- 6:46wore the number segment right there, isn't it the number eight, Yogi's number
- 6:56eight, And they won eight in a row on d Day where the number
- 7:02eight was very much involved in the Normandy invasion. Thanks be to God.
