- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girl's Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode of Long
- 0:14Speaker 1: Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm a Sick Wendy. Hi.
- 0:19Speaker 1: If you're new to Girls Gone Hallmark. These bonus episodes
- 0:22Speaker 1: were born out of the fact that, as of September
- 0:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty, Wendy had never seen a Hallmark movie, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: I was at that point a long time Hallmark fan,
- 0:32Speaker 1: although a casual viewer.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Not the rabid viewer that I thought you were.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Since then, Wendy has seen a lot of Hallmark movies
- 0:42Speaker 1: and I've expanded my role from casual Hallmark viewer to
- 0:45Speaker 1: eagle eyed critic. Fair totally fair. If you want to
- 0:52Speaker 1: catch up with us outside of the podcast, you can
- 0:54Speaker 1: follow us on Instagram at TikTok where we are at
- 0:57Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy, and you can also join in our
- 1:00Speaker 1: exclusive Facebook group full of Hallmark movie fans called Girls
- 1:04Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I love that group so much too. They're just on
- 1:08Speaker 2: top of it. They're in there with their reviews like
- 1:11Speaker 2: I just love it. I love it so much, and
- 1:14Speaker 2: they likely offer better insights to these movies than I do,
- 1:19Speaker 2: so I am here for.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It's not better, it's just different people have different takes
- 1:24Speaker 1: some people. You know, I think as a collective, they're
- 1:27Speaker 1: a very knowledgeable group about Hallmark movies, and so when
- 1:31Speaker 1: you see their comments, you're like, they know everything. But
- 1:33Speaker 1: not one person knows everything. They just as a group
- 1:35Speaker 1: know a lot. So it is an interesting, insightful look
- 1:39Speaker 1: and something I'll point out later on I learned from
- 1:42Speaker 1: our Hallmark group before I discovered it in my own research. Oh,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear. If you want to talk
- 1:50Speaker 1: to us directly, you can always email us at Megan
- 1:53Speaker 1: and Wendy at gmail dot com. Mm hmm, I stole
- 1:56Speaker 1: your line. Today's movie is ground Swell, which mirrored August
- 2:00Speaker 1: twenty first, twenty twenty two on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 1: isn't that interesting?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah? Hm and m Why do you think this movie
- 2:11Speaker 2: was on Homeworks movies and mysteries?
- 2:14Speaker 1: You know, I've given up trying to guess. I don't know.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I think they just share the wealth.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was reading some comments today. I think it was
- 2:22Speaker 2: like a Parade dot com article. I was doing my
- 2:25Speaker 2: research for this movie and there was like twenty one
- 2:27Speaker 2: comments about this and it was like, what happened to
- 2:31Speaker 2: all the mysteries on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries more than one.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, there's a there's a group
- 2:38Speaker 2: of people who are unhappy.
- 2:41Speaker 1: See we are relatively new Hallmark Movies and Mysteries watchers,
- 2:45Speaker 1: so I don't know what the previous balance was before.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I mean, right now, it just kind of seems like
- 2:51Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel two.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Right. Technically we are in the Fall into Love season
- 2:58Speaker 1: on Hallmark, which means that they're gonna put a little
- 3:02Speaker 1: leaf graphic at the bottom of the movies, but the
- 3:04Speaker 1: movies rarely have anything to do with fall. Maybe maybe
- 3:07Speaker 1: you'll get like a pumpkin spice mentioned that didn't happen
- 3:11Speaker 1: in this movie. They're just place holding.
- 3:14Speaker 2: It's such a miss to opportunity, I feel like, and
- 3:17Speaker 2: let me just explain why for a second. I get
- 3:21Speaker 2: that they want to start showing their countdown to Christmas
- 3:23Speaker 2: in October, but October and November is the fall season,
- 3:29Speaker 2: and so I feel like it misses the mark when
- 3:34Speaker 2: they're trying to show these fall movies which really aren't
- 3:39Speaker 2: themed fall in August.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I want to watch a fall movie. I do too,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and they've definitely made fall movies in the past. I
- 3:50Speaker 1: want to watch a movie with sweaters and boots and
- 3:53Speaker 1: jeans and candles and warm drinks and changing leaves. I
- 3:58Speaker 1: realize that's the real sticky point there is You're not like,
- 4:01Speaker 1: if you're filming a movie in April or August, it's
- 4:04Speaker 1: very hard to get that fall look. But we can
- 4:06Speaker 1: fake snow, we can fake the leaves. I agree. I mean,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I just.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I just want like a give me one Fall movie.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Last year, let me say last year Romance, Roadhouse, Roadhouse, Romance. Yep,
- 4:22Speaker 2: that was I think one fall movie that they had
- 4:25Speaker 2: that was like, look like it was fall and it
- 4:28Speaker 2: was great.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Agree, Yeah, give me give me one. And we're not
- 4:33Speaker 1: done yet, so we may get one. But so far
- 4:37Speaker 1: this movie is definitely not a Fall movie. Do you
- 4:42Speaker 1: have a synopsis for this movie? I sure do.
- 4:44Speaker 2: On the heels of a personal and professional setback, chef
- 4:49Speaker 2: Emma travels to Hawaii, where she meets Ben, a handsome,
- 4:53Speaker 2: reclusive surf instructor whose lessons help her to regain her
- 4:58Speaker 2: footing start Lacy Shaver and Ecdor Rivera.
- 5:04Speaker 1: As we jump into news and notes, I think it
- 5:07Speaker 1: is worth noting that October twenty second will be the
- 5:12Speaker 1: kickoff of Countdown to Christmas and it will kick off
- 5:16Speaker 1: with a Will Kemp movie set and filmed in England
- 5:20Speaker 1: titled Jolly Good Christmas. So I think that might be
- 5:24Speaker 1: even earlier than last year.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think it is because I think they promoted last year.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It was like a funny, tongue in cheek kind of
- 5:32Speaker 2: commercial where they showed tricker treaters but they were watching.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Countdown to Christmas? Does that sound familiar? Yes? And wasn't
- 5:40Speaker 1: Halloween on a Sunday last year? And we joked that
- 5:42Speaker 1: maybe they had buried one of those movies like on
- 5:44Speaker 1: Halloween nobody? Yeah, yeah, yeah, So the countdown is on.
- 5:49Speaker 1: We are less than two months out from the official
- 5:52Speaker 1: Countdown to Christmas kickoff. But let's talk about this movie
- 5:55Speaker 1: a little bit. And my first news and note note
- 6:00Speaker 1: mm hmm. Actually I was alerted to buy the Facebook
- 6:03Speaker 1: group because I'm not sure that I would have guessed
- 6:06Speaker 1: that this was adapted from a book. Why you didn't
- 6:09Speaker 1: know that?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. I have so many thoughts on that,
- 6:12Speaker 2: but go ahead. I mean, I know now, yeah, I know,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but I have some things to talk about.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But I was a little surprised that it's written by
- 6:21Speaker 1: Katie Lee. What's her new last name?
- 6:24Speaker 2: We had this whole conversation. She'll always be Katie Lee
- 6:27Speaker 2: Joel to me.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Well, when I was introduced to Katie Lee, she was
- 6:30Speaker 1: a judge on a cooking competition. Was it Top Chef? Yes?
- 6:34Speaker 2: I didn't want she was pre Padma. She was Season
- 6:37Speaker 2: one okay host? Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's the first time I ever saw her,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and she was Katie Lee Joel. I met her as
- 6:43Speaker 1: Katie Lee Joel, and so in my mind she's Katie
- 6:45Speaker 1: Lee Joel. Is that fair to her because she's no
- 6:47Speaker 1: longer married to him? She wants to take away that
- 6:49Speaker 1: it's not really fair that I can't erase it, but
- 6:51Speaker 1: that's who she is to me anyway. It is written
- 6:53Speaker 1: by Katie Lee. And in my mind, I'm like, Katie
- 6:55Speaker 1: Lee writes books. Like Katie Lee's a food competition host judge,
- 7:00Speaker 1: so she's written cookbooks.
- 7:04Speaker 2: She has only written one novel, which is ground Swell,
- 7:09Speaker 2: and I had read an interview with her that said
- 7:12Speaker 2: she would love to write another novel, but she's too busy,
- 7:15Speaker 2: like being a mom to a toddler right now, and
- 7:17Speaker 2: doesn't have the brain capacity for it.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Huh, good for you. Katie Lee. It just was an
- 7:23Speaker 1: interesting tie in, and I discovered that after watching the
- 7:27Speaker 1: movie where she plays a judge, which I actually thought
- 7:32Speaker 1: that was apt, having known her as a cooking competition
- 7:37Speaker 1: judge that's where I first met her. I didn't think
- 7:40Speaker 1: that was odd. Some people thought it was odd because
- 7:42Speaker 1: she wrote the book and she was also an executive
- 7:45Speaker 1: producer on this movie as well. Katie Lee Beagle b
- 7:49Speaker 1: I E. G. E. L. And that is her name.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Okay, all right, let me talk a little bit more
- 7:58Speaker 2: about Katie Lee please. So I looked up her book
- 8:02Speaker 2: Groundswell on Amazon, and it seems like they only adapted
- 8:10Speaker 2: the character names and maybe the overall theme of the
- 8:14Speaker 2: healing powers of surfing, because in the novel, Emma is
- 8:20Speaker 2: like a PA.
- 8:22Speaker 1: She works in the TV business, and something.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Happens where she breaks up with her husband, who's also
- 8:32Speaker 2: in the business, and then she runs off to Mexico
- 8:37Speaker 2: and meets Ben.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Okay, So, as.
- 8:41Speaker 2: An author, are you offended or do you not care
- 8:44Speaker 2: that the screenwriter completely like obliterates your novel?
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, you sell the rights. You sell the rights,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and I guess they can do with it what they will.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't know. It's just so weird to me.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's like, Okay, well, if the novel took place in Mexico,
- 9:00Speaker 2: so why didn't the Hallmark.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Movie take place in Mexico. Well? What was interesting? And
- 9:06Speaker 1: now that you say that, you know they did a
- 9:08Speaker 1: lot of which I am aware that Puerto Rico is
- 9:11Speaker 1: not Mexico, but they did a lot of Latin influence
- 9:13Speaker 1: with the Puerto Rican tie in, So maybe that was
- 9:18Speaker 1: the nod to the book. I don't know. That was
- 9:21Speaker 1: so confusing to me.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I didn't know, like, why didn't you just completely change
- 9:26Speaker 2: it then and have like a Polynesian actor and a
- 9:29Speaker 2: Polynesian themed foods.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And I don't get it. I don't understand. Yeah, well
- 9:37Speaker 1: here's what I want. This is getting real deep. But
- 9:39Speaker 1: you know, Hawaii tourism is kind of under fire right now.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And if you ever have come across a video and
- 9:48Speaker 1: TikTok or Instagram or a post on Twitter from a
- 9:51Speaker 1: Hawaiian native, a lot of people are begging people not
- 9:54Speaker 1: to travel to Hawaii. And there's always this discourse in
- 9:57Speaker 1: the comments that are like, but Hawaii relies on tourism them,
- 10:00Speaker 1: And I think there's a big disconnect between the natives
- 10:02Speaker 1: of Hawaii and the government of Hawaii and their needs
- 10:06Speaker 1: and their wants, and so I wonder if adding this
- 10:11Speaker 1: Puerto Rican influence, if adding this like talking about the
- 10:16Speaker 1: influence of the food and the influence of the Puerto
- 10:18Speaker 1: Rican community in Hawaii, if that had something to do
- 10:20Speaker 1: with maybe distracting from the straight up Hawaiian tourism elements.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I don't know, that's too deep for me. I saw
- 10:28Speaker 1: a quote from Lacey who said she loved filming on Maui.
- 10:34Speaker 1: They filmed was not filmed in Maui.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Shut up, seriously, she said, I loved filming on Maui,
- 10:41Speaker 2: but it was actually filmed in Oahu.
- 10:43Speaker 1: This movie was filmed in o Wahu. So maybe the
- 10:45Speaker 1: quote was misappropriated. This possible, but maybe it was an
- 10:54Speaker 1: old quote. All I know is this movie was filmed
- 10:57Speaker 1: in Oahua.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Rant that is so funny. Where somebody's just picking up
- 11:05Speaker 2: some sort of tidbit of something she said somewhere somewhere sometime.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I don't have any other news and notes other than
- 11:14Speaker 2: it was filmed in late May and early June.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Pretty quick turnaround.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I remember when this is being filmed, and I thought
- 11:20Speaker 2: it was going to be a Christmas movie.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Oh, yes, I remember we discussed it. We didn't have
- 11:25Speaker 1: a lot of details. Yeah, I have a couple of
- 11:27Speaker 1: the news and notes. I'm gonna save one of them
- 11:31Speaker 1: for a wish by proxy. Okay, okay. But Ector Rivera,
- 11:36Speaker 1: who plays Ben, is a baby actor. He has twelve
- 11:38Speaker 1: acting credits, which includes Sugarplum Twist, a Christmas movie that
- 11:42Speaker 1: was made specifically for the Hallmark Movies. Now, app that's
- 11:45Speaker 1: his only other Hallmark movie, and I believe it's that
- 11:48Speaker 1: was his first starring role credit. So Hallmark likes him
- 11:50Speaker 1: and I really enjoyed him. We'll talk a little bit
- 11:52Speaker 1: more about him. But the real baby actor in this movie,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and the really big surprise for me is that Omar Bustamante,
- 11:59Speaker 1: who place Frankie, has only seven acting credits. Oh wow,
- 12:05Speaker 1: He's like a brand new Sapling and he stole the
- 12:09Speaker 1: show for me. He was one of my favorites. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: so I found that very interesting. So let's talk first impressions.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Mine is a solid welcome back to Hallmark movies.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Oh go ahead, No, I've liked other Lacy Shiverer movies better.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, fair enough. Let's talk about what we liked about grounds.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Well, Well, I really liked actor Rivera that he was
- 12:41Speaker 2: beautiful to look at, and I liked his acting.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I thought it was a good choice for Ben. He
- 12:47Speaker 1: has a lot of passion in his acting. Right he
- 12:50Speaker 1: found that letter from his wife, I was like, Wow,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I really believe that you're having a moment here. Yeah, no,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I agree in co Star News, as we said, I
- 13:00Speaker 1: adored Omar Bucevante. I hope he gets a starring role
- 13:03Speaker 1: on the Hallmark Channel. Quickly. I would watch a Christmas
- 13:06Speaker 1: movie with him in a heartbeat. I thought he brought
- 13:10Speaker 1: so much warmth and heart to this movie. I loved
- 13:13Speaker 1: his relationship with Lacey. I really really liked him. I
- 13:18Speaker 1: did too the entire time.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Though at the beginning, I was like, oh, is there
- 13:22Speaker 2: a love interest between these two? And then I quickly
- 13:24Speaker 2: found out that that was not the case. Yeah, I
- 13:27Speaker 2: really enjoyed him. I thought he had like funny jokes
- 13:30Speaker 2: and I just thought I thought he was great.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I also really liked Aunt June. She was played by
- 13:35Speaker 1: Tracy Yamamoto.
- 13:37Speaker 2: MDB does not have a photo of her though, which
- 13:40Speaker 2: I don't understand, but I thought she played a nice,
- 13:44Speaker 2: like grounding character, but also.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Try to stir things up. I guess I liked her
- 13:48Speaker 1: a lot too. So this is a place where the
- 13:53Speaker 1: Facebook group and I divide because one thing I really
- 13:57Speaker 1: liked about this movie, and I like in Hallmark movies
- 13:59Speaker 1: in general, is when there's kind of a lot going
- 14:01Speaker 1: on to move the story along, and not in a
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's Christmas, so we're going to decorate cookies and have
- 14:07Speaker 1: hot chocolate and build a gingerbread house way, But in
- 14:10Speaker 1: a we've got these other activities that are driving our story,
- 14:13Speaker 1: in this case, the surfing lessons and the cooking competition. Okay,
- 14:17Speaker 1: the home. The Facebook group thought the cooking competition was
- 14:21Speaker 1: not well executed. I agree, Oh interesting, because I really
- 14:26Speaker 1: enjoyed that element of it.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I I let me hear, let me hear more from
- 14:31Speaker 2: you before I.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Well, I don't know that there is more. I just
- 14:36Speaker 1: I liked. The two things I liked about it were
- 14:40Speaker 1: first that it gave Frankie and Emma a chance to
- 14:43Speaker 1: develop their relationship both during the competition and in their
- 14:48Speaker 1: cooking scenes outside of the competition. And I liked that
- 14:52Speaker 1: it gave us this other setting for activities. There was
- 14:55Speaker 1: this subplot of this cooking competition. I have a did
- 15:00Speaker 1: you see that question about the competition there? I have
- 15:03Speaker 1: some questions, but overall, as an element in the movie,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I liked it. Tell me what you didn't like.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I just thought I was poorly executed. I thought the
- 15:12Speaker 2: food shots were not great. Of the food that they
- 15:17Speaker 2: were making, none of it sounded appetizing. I don't know,
- 15:20Speaker 2: you gotta like really sell me on the food if
- 15:22Speaker 2: you're having a food competition. And I thought there should
- 15:25Speaker 2: have been more tension around the cooking competition.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Oh, I just I.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Totally get your point that we needed that to like
- 15:34Speaker 2: move the story along.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I just didn't think it was well executed. I admit
- 15:40Speaker 1: I was not paying super close attention to the food
- 15:42Speaker 1: photography and hidiography in that. I just wanted like some
- 15:46Speaker 1: better food shots.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I mean, if you have Katie Lee formerly Joel, who
- 15:54Speaker 2: has several cookbooks is used to be non you know,
- 15:58Speaker 2: food competitions, like you would I think that there would
- 16:00Speaker 2: have been some input on that. Leanne Wong, who was
- 16:04Speaker 2: the other judge in the on the movie. In the movie,
- 16:08Speaker 2: she was a Season one Top Chef finalist. Oh and
- 16:14Speaker 2: they're like good friends in real life, so anyway, like
- 16:17Speaker 2: you would think like there would have been some sort
- 16:20Speaker 2: of like creative input in that way, but maybe like
- 16:23Speaker 2: there's just no budget for it or time or whatever.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So like, we got you all to Hawaii, what else
- 16:28Speaker 1: do you want from us? Exactly exactly.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I just wanted to like a you know, like a
- 16:33Speaker 2: yes chef and a you know, I don't know something
- 16:37Speaker 2: something better.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Is there anything else you liked about this movie?
- 16:41Speaker 2: No?
- 16:42Speaker 1: I feel like I need to say I have been
- 16:44Speaker 1: critical of Lazy Shabert in the past. I was not
- 16:47Speaker 1: her biggest fan, and I do agree with you that
- 16:50Speaker 1: this is not my favorite Lacey Shabert movie. It isn't
- 16:54Speaker 1: I did like it, and I am fully converted as
- 16:56Speaker 1: a Lazy Shabert fan. I enjoy her on screen very much.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I think she's very natural on camera. I agree with
- 17:03Speaker 1: that too.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I I just think coming off of The Wedding Veil,
- 17:08Speaker 2: I just really enjoyed that trilogy of movies, and I
- 17:13Speaker 2: felt like this.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Movie was like three steps back.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know something about something about and this
- 17:22Speaker 2: goes into my wish for so if we can move
- 17:24Speaker 2: into that. I think there needed to be better chemistry
- 17:28Speaker 2: between Ben and Emma. To me, their conversations were very like.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It didn't flow. Well, it was very acting. I say
- 17:39Speaker 2: a line, they say a line. I say a line,
- 17:41Speaker 2: they say a line.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know, it.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Didn't like it didn't make me believe that they were
- 17:45Speaker 2: actually connecting.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Oh you didn't love that moment where they almost kiss
- 17:50Speaker 1: at that and then Darren interrupts them.
- 17:53Speaker 2: No, like, I just I didn't to me very much.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Felt like they need those characters needed each other to
- 18:00Speaker 2: move on in their lives, but they were not meant
- 18:02Speaker 2: for each other.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Huh.
- 18:04Speaker 2: You know, like she had to get over her chef
- 18:07Speaker 2: that screwed her over. He was trying to get over
- 18:10Speaker 2: his wife who passed.
- 18:11Speaker 1: You know, they were for a moment, but not forever. Yeah. Well,
- 18:18Speaker 1: I didn't have any wishes, but we did receive a
- 18:22Speaker 1: voice memo from a friend of the show who wanted
- 18:24Speaker 1: to remain anonymous, and I have decided to place the
- 18:30Speaker 1: context in my wish section. It's a wish by proxy,
- 18:33Speaker 1: and that is Lacy Shabert used a stunt double in
- 18:37Speaker 1: this movie. Her name was Emily Luke for her surfing scenes,
- 18:41Speaker 1: and I had wondered watching I was like, is she surfing?
- 18:43Speaker 1: I don't think so. And there was a photo that
- 18:46Speaker 1: I saw the two women standing next to each other,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and they look very similar, especially when you're wet and
- 18:51Speaker 1: in a wet suit. But this comment that we received
- 18:55Speaker 1: was frustrated because there was a movie about two weeks
- 19:01Speaker 1: earlier that was very body positive. The movie is Romance
- 19:04Speaker 1: in Style.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Now.
- 19:04Speaker 1: We did not watch no review that movie. We were
- 19:06Speaker 1: on summer break. But she said this stunt double looked
- 19:10Speaker 1: similar to Lacey, but had a different body style. She
- 19:13Speaker 1: was slimmer than Lacey, had a different shape than Lacey.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And you know, I think when it comes down to it,
- 19:19Speaker 1: a we're dealing with a Hallmark movie. We're not dealing
- 19:22Speaker 1: with big budgets. We want to get as close as possible,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but the end of the dayf we're going to get
- 19:26Speaker 1: a brunette in a black wet suit. That's what we're
- 19:29Speaker 1: gonna go with. Mm hm. But she just felt like
- 19:33Speaker 1: it kind of went against the recent message of body
- 19:37Speaker 1: positivity by hiring this stunt double who was smaller and
- 19:40Speaker 1: slimmer than Lacey. Do you have any thoughts on that, Wendy.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Not really, other than like they needed a body double,
- 19:47Speaker 2: they needed a stunt double. They needed somebody to surf,
- 19:50Speaker 2: so like they took what they got. I don't think
- 19:56Speaker 2: it's like so far off. We're not dealing with like
- 19:59Speaker 2: someone like like an actor who who might be like
- 20:04Speaker 2: a plus size you know what I mean. We're not
- 20:07Speaker 2: like it's not obvious, it's not totally obvious.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I agree. So I agree. And I didn't even notice
- 20:13Speaker 1: it until it was brought up to me. I am
- 20:16Speaker 1: all for body positivity, and I will admit that this
- 20:19Speaker 1: doesn't rankle mem but that is the perspective that we received,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and I wanted to share it. Okay, did you wish
- 20:28Speaker 1: for anything else?
- 20:30Speaker 2: No?
- 20:31Speaker 1: Are you ready for did you see that? Sure? I
- 20:33Speaker 1: only have one go ahead. It was it was a
- 20:37Speaker 1: it was a.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Line in the movie and Ben's talking to Emma about
- 20:40Speaker 2: surfing and she goes, well, I've seen Blue Crush like
- 20:42Speaker 2: four times, and like I felt seen because I love
- 20:46Speaker 2: that movie, and it just made me happy that it
- 20:49Speaker 2: was like a line in a movie that I'm watching now,
- 20:53Speaker 2: you know. Yes, And speaking of Blue Crush, they had
- 20:57Speaker 2: they had like stunt doubles in that movie too, and
- 20:59Speaker 2: I have recently rewatched it and.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's so bad.
- 21:02Speaker 2: They have like a photoshop of Oh, I can't even
- 21:06Speaker 2: remember that the girl's the actor, the blonde actress.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the one she has two different eye colors. Hi
- 21:13Speaker 1: friends Megan here. Note from the editor. The actress's name
- 21:16Speaker 1: is Kate Bosworth. Can't her name is? Right now? They
- 21:20Speaker 1: phototop her face on the body. Yes, it's so bad,
- 21:23Speaker 1: it's so bad.
- 21:25Speaker 2: But anyway, I was happy when I heard that line.
- 21:30Speaker 1: First of all, we have a real musical or in
- 21:32Speaker 1: this movie. Ok, we have Avril Levine's head above water.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Oh, that is so funny. I thought that was her singing.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I she zammed it as it was playing, because sometimes
- 21:45Speaker 1: the information is hard to come by afterwards if you
- 21:47Speaker 1: try and google it.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I wonder if it's new, because she she's kind of
- 21:53Speaker 2: making a comeback, so I mean, yeah, she's real big
- 21:56Speaker 2: on TikTok with the gen z crowd right now.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Well, and there was that whole like did Avril Levine die?
- 22:03Speaker 2: What?
- 22:04Speaker 1: I didn't know that? And if she has like lyme
- 22:06Speaker 1: disease or something of it, why did she die? Who
- 22:08Speaker 1: says she's dead? People say she was replaced by what
- 22:14Speaker 1: like a duppelganger? Oh my goodness. Avril Levine replacement conspiracy theory.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Why fans think Avril Levine died and was replaced by
- 22:23Speaker 1: a clone named Melissa. There's a whole thing. Oh my gosh,
- 22:27Speaker 1: really it's the whole thing. She's too far, Yeah, too far, okay.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And my second is a cooking competition question. We've got
- 22:36Speaker 1: Dickhead Garrett, who is ex boyfriend of Emma, who was
- 22:40Speaker 1: such a jerk and so self absorbed, and I get
- 22:43Speaker 1: that that's the character, but also he did a great
- 22:45Speaker 1: job of playing this albumsorbed asshole. And in the competition
- 22:50Speaker 1: he gives a recipe em right away to one of
- 22:55Speaker 1: the other teams. How did he get away with that?
- 22:57Speaker 2: I don't know where he was like, don't make that,
- 23:00Speaker 2: don't make that recipe.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but how does this guy who's like, I didn't
- 23:04Speaker 1: even really get his role special guest on the Cooking
- 23:07Speaker 1: Show apparently, how does he the host of a Cooking
- 23:11Speaker 1: Hob edition is like, here, use this recipe. It seems
- 23:15Speaker 1: like that wouldn't fly. They should be kicked out for you.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Know, all I can think about is it was some
- 23:20Speaker 2: kind of sauce that was made with cashews, and I
- 23:23Speaker 2: recently found out that I was allergic to cashews, and
- 23:26Speaker 2: I was like, that would have killed me.
- 23:28Speaker 1: There's no way.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:30Speaker 1: That's my takeaway from it. Did you rate this movie?
- 23:33Speaker 1: I did? What'd you give it? Two and a half stars?
- 23:37Speaker 1: So rough? I gave it through. I didn't really like
- 23:41Speaker 1: it that much. I'm sorry. Yeah. I think sometimes movies
- 23:46Speaker 1: when we haven't watched a movie in a while, get
- 23:48Speaker 1: a little bit of a bump from me because I
- 23:49Speaker 1: was like, oh, that was fun. Yeah, I could see.
- 23:53Speaker 2: That's probably the same for me. In terms of a
- 23:55Speaker 2: Christmas movie, like the first one or two that come out,
- 23:57Speaker 2: I'll be Yeah, they'll get highly rated and and they'll yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 2: make sure more and more critical as the season goes on.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. We are fully back with regular episodes, and
- 24:08Speaker 1: we will be back next week with our thoughts on
- 24:12Speaker 1: unthinkably good things from the Mahogany line of movies, also
- 24:16Speaker 1: on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. You can also catch our
- 24:19Speaker 1: regular Tuesday episodes of the podcast. This week we talked
- 24:23Speaker 1: about our MVP's of summer, and next week is going
- 24:27Speaker 1: to be a pop culture Club episode where we're talking
- 24:29Speaker 1: about everything we're watching and reading and listening to outside
- 24:33Speaker 1: of the Hallmark channel. Tune in for that, and lastly,
- 24:37Speaker 1: if you have not left a review of the podcast,
- 24:40Speaker 1: and you love the podcast. Give us a five star review.
- 24:43Speaker 1: We love ther ratings. Thank you so much, have a
- 24:46Speaker 1: great week. Goodbye bye.
