- 0:03Speaker 1: Imagine being at work, minding your own business and coming
- 0:06Speaker 1: across all rattlesnake and getting big twice and living to
- 0:11Speaker 1: tell the tale. Well, it happened, and we're going to
- 0:13Speaker 1: get the full story from Beth. Next fly from the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Judgey and Rich Peoria for its studio.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hello, good morning, John, Jay and Rich can help you.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yes, my daughter was good by a rattlesnake in May.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I sent pictures to John Jay and Rich on Facebook
- 0:31Speaker 3: and I wanted to know. She just wanted to feel good. Horrible,
- 0:34Speaker 3: horrible story.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Yeah, you're on the air with us right now. What's
- 0:38Speaker 4: the horrible story? What happened? But that's so sad?
- 0:40Speaker 3: She first of all, she okay, yes, yes she actually is.
- 0:45Speaker 3: But it was scary. She almost had the amptutator leg.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you're laughing. What let me ask you this?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Hold on?
- 0:56Speaker 2: What's your name? Beth? Okay, Beth? What sharks will begin?
- 1:00Speaker 2: What was she doing? When? And when the rats like bitter?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Where was she was she hiking? Was she walking?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Where she was at work? At Tucson Cigarro National Park?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Cigarro National Park? Those are a bunch of cigars, right?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Or do you mean you're okay? All right? So go ahead,
- 1:21Speaker 2: go ahead. She's working at the YEP.
- 1:25Speaker 3: She's working there with her boss, and I don't know,
- 1:28Speaker 3: they're clearing out the invasive plants. So he's in front
- 1:32Speaker 3: of her, she's behind him, and she's walking up this cliff.
- 1:38Speaker 3: They're very high up, and it bites her twice. Oh god,
- 1:43Speaker 3: and she falls down and starts screaming from the pain.
- 1:48Speaker 3: And he's an EMT, her boss, and he says, calm down.
- 1:53Speaker 3: So she does medication, all this you know, poofoo stuff,
- 1:57Speaker 3: and so she calms down. But he only had his
- 2:01Speaker 3: cell phone. So we called on the cell phone and
- 2:04Speaker 3: said we have a bite. But then the cell phone
- 2:07Speaker 3: went out and they didn't have the coordinate coordination, so
- 2:11Speaker 3: they couldn't find them. And so I don't know what
- 2:17Speaker 3: happened at this point, but like two hours later, I
- 2:20Speaker 3: get a call saying you got to come to the hospital.
- 2:23Speaker 3: She's in bits. I'm like, I'm on my way.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I was.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I live in Maracopa. So I got on the eighth
- 2:31Speaker 3: and I put my flashes on, picked up my husband
- 2:34Speaker 3: and we bat at a hell got down there and yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 3: they were like, she's okay, she.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Only needs one thing of venom and then the oh, well,
- 2:44Speaker 5: she needs the second one now, and it kept going
- 2:47Speaker 5: up her leg and it went to her groin and
- 2:51Speaker 5: they're like, we have to lift her to Phoenix Children's
- 2:55Speaker 5: Hospital because they might have to amputate because we can't
- 3:00Speaker 5: get the swelling down once he gets to a certain point.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Oh my god, Yeah, it was. It was just crazy.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So again we just all breathe and said okay, okay,
- 3:11Speaker 3: and then I don't know what happened. It's kind of
- 3:14Speaker 3: a blur. She's an ICU and they got the swelling
- 3:20Speaker 3: under control. She was in for a week and now
- 3:25Speaker 3: she's at Yellow Still National Park. She got another contract
- 3:29Speaker 3: job where she's doing some fishing game stuff. But it
- 3:34Speaker 3: took her two months. She had physical therapy, she was
- 3:37Speaker 3: on crutches.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Really, that thing really messed it. Was it a smaller
- 3:42Speaker 1: stake or a big snake?
- 3:43Speaker 4: Do we know?
- 3:44Speaker 3: No, they didn't get to see the snake, but it
- 3:47Speaker 3: was too bite.
- 3:48Speaker 2: They're still out there.
- 3:49Speaker 1: That snake's still out there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Was it two snakes or was it one snake?
- 3:53Speaker 3: It was one snake. It was one.
- 3:55Speaker 2: You know. I go hiking.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I go hiking with a guy and he always leads,
- 3:59Speaker 4: and I was like I'm really worried about rattlesnakes, and
- 4:01Speaker 4: he goes, oh, don't worry. The rattlesnakes usually bite the
- 4:03Speaker 4: second person.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Oh no, like that's me, Like, why would I not
- 4:06Speaker 6: be worried about right, And so that's what happened, because
- 4:08Speaker 6: what happens is the first person walks by and alerts
- 4:10Speaker 6: the snake and then the snake goes now, So there
- 4:13Speaker 6: was no rattle warning or anything.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Like a lot of times the snake's like, hey, man,
- 4:16Speaker 2: let you know, I'm over.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Here exactly and it should have turned around and not.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I mean, you know, yeah, she has no idea why.
- 4:25Speaker 3: But she did go back to work and they call
- 4:28Speaker 3: her the rattlesnake whisper because she's four more snakes. When
- 4:33Speaker 3: she started to the invasive oh wow, she was, Yes,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you hear the rattle and she'd see it and she'd
- 4:40Speaker 3: scream and run. But yeah, she's a Yellowstone nash. But
- 4:44Speaker 3: she's twenty four. So she's like, mom, a ralsnake's not
- 4:48Speaker 3: going to bite me again, you know, go what is
- 4:50Speaker 3: the chances?
- 4:51Speaker 6: I do feel like we need a little a psa
- 4:54Speaker 6: that like of what an actual rattle sounds like.
- 4:57Speaker 2: So if you are out on a hike. You know
- 4:59Speaker 2: it's here.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Well, if you hear a rattle, that's not good. No,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but I feel like different.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Expect baby rattle.
- 5:08Speaker 4: We got your pictures. Can we post your pictures on
- 5:10Speaker 4: our social media?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:12Speaker 3: Okay, I did that. Yep, I posted the picture.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Okay. You know what's interesting.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You said it happened in May. I thought that they
- 5:18Speaker 4: weren't out in May. I thought they came out like June, Judy.
- 5:22Speaker 1: If you can wear sleeves like not a jacket, that's
- 5:25Speaker 1: rattlesteak season. So if you're not, if you're not cold,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they're not cold.
- 5:29Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:29Speaker 4: So that's it. So she's okay, now what a story. Bet,
- 5:32Speaker 4: thanks for calling and sharing that with us.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Yeah. When I heard you guys being afraid of rattles
- 5:36Speaker 3: stakes and talk of a baby and said everything, I'm like,
- 5:39Speaker 3: I got a call.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's just they've only had three in that park and
- 5:44Speaker 3: you know how many years, and they were on with
- 5:47Speaker 3: poison control like all the time, and so she had
- 5:52Speaker 3: to go to a safety thing with her job with
- 5:54Speaker 3: the park services and they were talking and then they
- 5:58Speaker 3: started talking about rattlesteakes and she's like, I was bit
- 6:00Speaker 3: and the woman's given the talk is like, oh I'm
- 6:03Speaker 3: some poison control I know all about your story.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Oh wow, just quiet, well, thank you very much, best glad,
- 6:10Speaker 4: she's fine.
- 6:11Speaker 2: You must be very proud mom.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I am, I am, I'm proud of her.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It's like a few years ago they were running low
- 6:17Speaker 1: on anti anti venom because so many people were getting
- 6:21Speaker 1: bit isn't it like twelve grand for one shot of
- 6:24Speaker 1: anti venom something like that. It's really expensive.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Here you go, Peyton, here you go.
- 6:30Speaker 3: And we were glad we were in peas On because
- 6:33Speaker 3: they have the venom there. They don't have as much
- 6:35Speaker 3: in Seenix.
- 6:36Speaker 4: You know.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you hear that Peyton. That kind of suns like
- 6:40Speaker 2: those locusts in the trees.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Also, again, watch the shows talking about monsters of God,
- 6:44Speaker 4: they get into this.
- 6:45Speaker 2: These people were smoking, rattlesnakes, all kinds of stuff. Thank you, Beth,
