- Sean Graver: You found out something you didn't ask to know about. Someone you work with is having an affair. Maybe you saw something. Maybe someone told you. Maybe you just put it together and it's really undeniable at this point. And now you're going to work, saying hi, doing your job, and carrying something heavy that has nothing to do with you, except now it kind of does. Well, good morning. I'm Sean. This is Prayer Before Work. And let's look at the book of James, chapter one, verse five, where he writes, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him. That's a verse for moments when you don't know what to do. Not the easy questions, the hard ones, the ones where every option feels complicated and the wrong move could hurt someone. And I'll be straight with you, there's not a clean answer here. What to do with something like this depends on a lot of things. That's like your relationship to the people involved, whether anyone is in danger or what the actual situation is. I can't make that call for you. What I can tell you is this wisdom is available. That's the promise James is making. If you ask, I mean genuinely ask, God will not embarrass you for needing it. He gives generously without condemnation. He won't judge you for not knowing what to do here. So start there. Before you decide what to do, before you rehearse a conversation, before you say anything to anyone else about it, ask God what role, if any, he wants you to play in this. Maybe the answer is none. Stay out of it completely. And maybe the answer is this person needs someone to simply ask how they're doing and mean it. Maybe it's something more, but ask first and be careful with who you tell. The weight of knowing something like this can make you want to set it down by sharing it. That impulse usually spreads the damage further. So hold it carefully. While you figure out what faithful actually looks like. Well let's pray. Lord, we're carrying something today that we didn't choose, and we don't know what to do with it. I mean, we need wisdom, real wisdom, not just our instincts or what we tell someone over coffee. We're asking, what does faithfulness look like in this? Show us the right move, the right timing, the right words or Maybe the right silence. I trust you with the people involved. I trust you with this, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen. Now go make today count.
