Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to Inside the Tape on Inside the Birds,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and of course Inside the Tape features Greg co Sell
- 0:16Speaker 1: to break down the tape of the Eagles last game.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher alongside Adam Kaplan and Greg. I don't
- 0:23Speaker 1: know if you know this because you watch the tape,
- 0:25Speaker 1: you don't always watch it live, but there was a
- 0:27Speaker 1: lot of booze at Lincoln Financial Field going on in
- 0:31Speaker 1: the second and third quarter as the defending Super Bowl
- 0:33Speaker 1: champs kind of looked like chumps on offense. We figured,
- 0:38Speaker 1: let's break down the offense here in part one. We'll
- 0:41Speaker 1: get to the defense on the next episode. And it
- 0:44Speaker 1: was certainly a tale of two different offenses. So before
- 0:47Speaker 1: we really.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Pull it all apart, look at some Walt twenty two clips.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm interested in getting your overall takeaways. As you're seeing
- 0:55Speaker 2: a team just almost dormant on offense, then all of
- 0:58Speaker 2: a sudden, flick the switch, turn it on.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You know, it's funny. I was, you know, I watched
- 1:05Speaker 3: Red Zone on Sunday, but obviously they you know, they
- 1:07Speaker 3: show the plays, so I saw, you know, the big
- 1:10Speaker 3: plays and the key moments in the game. But as
- 1:12Speaker 3: I was really watching the tape, and studying it as
- 1:15Speaker 3: you guys, you know, could see. When I sent you
- 1:17Speaker 3: my notes, all I could think of was when I
- 1:21Speaker 3: spoke at length with Steve Spagnolo this summer and he
- 1:24Speaker 3: said to me that the most important player in the
- 1:27Speaker 3: Eagles offense is aj Brown, which would probably surprise a
- 1:31Speaker 3: lot of fans because they would think it's you know,
- 1:34Speaker 3: it's Arkley or Hurts. You know, yeah, but because you
- 1:39Speaker 3: can you can really stop a run game if you
- 1:42Speaker 3: commit enough to it. Now, can a guy break one?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Sure that can happen anytime. But if you know, we
- 1:49Speaker 3: saw what what Spags did in the Super Bowl. You
- 1:52Speaker 3: know he made it a concerted effort to stop the
- 1:54Speaker 3: run game, and he did. But in so doing, the
- 1:59Speaker 3: thing is is, if you're going to defend a receiver
- 2:02Speaker 3: outside the numbers, you're pretty much playing one on one.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Whether it's a zone call or a man call, that
- 2:10Speaker 3: corner has to match up one on one. And there
- 2:14Speaker 3: may be you know, Brown is in the top three
- 2:19Speaker 3: receiver group in the league. You know, it's Jefferson, Chase
- 2:22Speaker 3: and Brown. You know, one can debate, you know who
- 2:26Speaker 3: they like better. But the point is is that Brown
- 2:29Speaker 3: is really, really hard to defend one on one on
- 2:33Speaker 3: the outside. And as I'm watching this tape and they
- 2:36Speaker 3: started throwing to him on the outside. You know, to me,
- 2:39Speaker 3: the biggest play in the game was that third and
- 2:41Speaker 3: ten when they were deep in their own territory and
- 2:44Speaker 3: he hit Brown who turned it into I think a
- 2:47Speaker 3: twenty five yard gain if memory serves me correctly.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Is it the player right before the Goddard touchdown.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Greg, No, no, no, no, no, no, This was they
- 2:55Speaker 3: were deep in their own territory.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I know what you're talking about now, yeah, right.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Goutter touchdown happened before that, but you
- 3:07Speaker 3: know it was it was it was third and ten
- 3:09Speaker 3: from their own nine yard line. That was the play, right,
- 3:12Speaker 3: and he turned it into twenty five yards. It happened
- 3:15Speaker 3: to be cover one on that play. But the point is,
- 3:17Speaker 3: even if it was his own concept, he's outside the numbers.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So you know, it just made me think of what
- 3:23Speaker 3: Spags told me. And they started throwing the ball in
- 3:26Speaker 3: all these critical, high leverage situations, where did the ball go.
- 3:30Speaker 3: It went to Brown outside the numbers, you know, I mean.
- 3:34Speaker 3: And that's and by the way, that's where Jalen's had
- 3:37Speaker 3: his absolute best throwing the football. So that's what I
- 3:42Speaker 3: thought of as kind of an overview. We can certainly
- 3:45Speaker 3: talk about the Goddard play. You know, I don't know what.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I think.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What we people really want to understand from both a
- 3:53Speaker 2: big picture look.
- 3:55Speaker 4: And then tape what you go through is where were
- 3:59Speaker 4: the plays in? You know, so I'll help you.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Hal there were seventeen snaps between their seventeen offensive plays,
- 4:08Speaker 2: between the touchdown that they scored early after the interception
- 4:13Speaker 2: and then that played to aj Brown that I was
- 4:16Speaker 2: talking about that preceded the Goddard touchdown where things really
- 4:20Speaker 2: started to change. And in those seventeen plays they netted
- 4:24Speaker 2: nine yards. Right, they had four or five straight.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Three and outs.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And I so we come to you to say, Greg,
- 4:31Speaker 2: what were what were they doing or what were the
- 4:33Speaker 2: Eagles not doing?
- 4:35Speaker 3: And Number one, they have not been able to run
- 4:38Speaker 3: the football the way they have in the past, so
- 4:40Speaker 3: that has not been a sustaining element to their offense.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And I, quite frankly, I don't think their O line
- 4:46Speaker 3: played particularly well. I think Jurgens has been struggling this
- 4:49Speaker 3: year quite frankly. Now, I don't you know, I don't
- 4:51Speaker 3: know if Jeff Stalin was here if he would tell
- 4:53Speaker 3: me I'm wrong, but I just my sense, and I'm
- 4:56Speaker 3: certainly not an offensive line guru, but I don't think
- 4:59Speaker 3: he's played particularly well relative to what he did a
- 5:02Speaker 3: year ago, so I think he struggled. Obviously, Lane Johnson
- 5:07Speaker 3: played ten snaps and got hurt, and then Matt Pryor
- 5:10Speaker 3: came in for fifteen snaps and obviously came out after
- 5:13Speaker 3: he allowed the sack forced Fumbo by Verse, and then
- 5:17Speaker 3: they brought in Fred Johnson, who by the way, played
- 5:19Speaker 3: phenomenally well, phenomenally well wow, and they had some issues
- 5:27Speaker 3: with pressure. I mean, you know, he had the mccullus
- 5:30Speaker 3: sack on third and eight and the second possession, and
- 5:33Speaker 3: he blitzed from distance. He got in clean inside of
- 5:36Speaker 3: Stein and Pryor. Hurtz did not recognize the pressure and
- 5:40Speaker 3: got drilled. And they had a really well designed route
- 5:43Speaker 3: concept with a double dig behind Mesh and Smith on
- 5:46Speaker 3: the outside dig came wide open, but Hurts had no
- 5:49Speaker 3: time to make the throw. So I mean, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 3: you can always go through individual plays, which is what
- 5:55Speaker 3: it ultimately comes down to. Individual plays, and when you
- 5:58Speaker 3: get beat on individual plays, particularly on third down, like
- 6:01Speaker 3: the mccullus sack or the sack of that prior let up,
- 6:05Speaker 3: which obviously then resulted in the I think that was
- 6:09Speaker 3: the first drive of the third quarter. I think that
- 6:11Speaker 3: then resulted in the next play on the Williams touchdown reception,
- 6:14Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, they're down twenty six to seven.
- 6:16Speaker 3: But I think if you're talking big picture, I'd say
- 6:20Speaker 3: it's the run game, because keep one thing in mind,
- 6:23Speaker 3: Hertz ended up in this game throwing for over two
- 6:26Speaker 3: hundred yards in the second half alone, which is amazing
- 6:30Speaker 3: and very rare because the Eagles, I believe, have won
- 6:33Speaker 3: something like nineteen of twenty games. Now, is it something
- 6:36Speaker 3: like that, Yes, some crazy status if I'm not mistaken,
- 6:41Speaker 3: and somebody can easily check this. I didn't do the math,
- 6:44Speaker 3: but I think I saw somebody say this that in
- 6:46Speaker 3: those nineteen wins, he's averaged like one hundred eighty yards passing.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They're not a passing team, you know. So this game
- 6:53Speaker 3: demanded it and they obviously did it, and that's you know,
- 6:57Speaker 3: that's great. Now. You know, we'd probably be having a
- 7:01Speaker 3: different conversation about the game if Jordan Davis doesn't, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: block that field goal and they lose the game, we'd
- 7:07Speaker 3: be having a different conversation. But at their core, they're
- 7:10Speaker 3: not a passing team. Sure, you know, Hurts fits this
- 7:15Speaker 3: what they if they're running the ball, Well, Hurts fits
- 7:20Speaker 3: this team beautifully. He plays incredibly intelligent football and he
- 7:24Speaker 3: fits the team beautifully. And in this particular game he
- 7:27Speaker 3: had to throw, and you know, the brown factor became huge,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and we'll go over the goddard player. You know. I
- 7:34Speaker 3: don't know if you want to go over that now
- 7:35Speaker 3: or you plan on showing it. But if you plan
- 7:38Speaker 3: on showing it, I'll wait till you show it, you know.
- 7:41Speaker 3: But you know this game demanded that they throw the ball.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And in the second half, I believe he was seventeen
- 7:48Speaker 3: for twenty four for two oh nine. So you have
- 7:50Speaker 3: to give Hurts and the past game a ton of credit.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And as I said, Fred Johnson was absolutely critical in
- 7:56Speaker 3: this game because he blocked one on one in pass
- 7:58Speaker 3: protection a good part of the time and he essentially
- 8:01Speaker 3: did what Lane Johnson does.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Wow, he was that good. Let me see question landon Dickerson.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I know our Patreon members will get I'm sure, though,
- 8:09Speaker 5: I ask you give us over the three games. How
- 8:12Speaker 5: Dickerson has looked to you.
- 8:14Speaker 3: You know I would, I would say offensive line play
- 8:17Speaker 3: at him is more about, you know, individual plays that
- 8:20Speaker 3: I noticed. I'm not going to sit here and pretend
- 8:22Speaker 3: that I'm charting each play, you know, I'd be silly
- 8:24Speaker 3: to do. I don't have that kind of time, and
- 8:26Speaker 3: so I'm not going to sit here and say that,
- 8:28Speaker 3: you know, he's been good, bad, and different other than
- 8:31Speaker 3: I notice on certain plays that which I didn't notice
- 8:35Speaker 3: a year ago, that he misses blocks or he gets beat,
- 8:39Speaker 3: you know. So again, that doesn't mean he's played a
- 8:42Speaker 3: terrible game, because there's a lot of plays, you know.
- 8:46Speaker 3: So if a guy gets beat on three plays and
- 8:48Speaker 3: he's playing whatever, the number of snaps was sixty, some
- 8:51Speaker 3: aren't snaps. I don't know if if Jeff Stallin charts
- 8:53Speaker 3: that is him having a bad game, or hey, he
- 8:56Speaker 3: had three or four bad plays and we can correct
- 8:58Speaker 3: those with some technique work. But I'm just saying I
- 9:01Speaker 3: notice him getting beat more than I did a year ago.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Greg from a Rams defense standpoint, I wanted to point
- 9:09Speaker 6: something out. You noted that they rushed five or more
- 9:13Speaker 6: on fourteen of thirty seven Hurtz dropbacks, which is roughly
- 9:17Speaker 6: thirty three percent. So Greg, clearly the Rams did something
- 9:22Speaker 6: differently on defense than they had been doing, because they
- 9:26Speaker 6: blitz at over a thirty three percent clip and they
- 9:29Speaker 6: came into the game around twelve percent. I mean, that's
- 9:32Speaker 6: a dramatic difference. How much did that jump out of
- 9:34Speaker 6: you at tape and huse? Oh?
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean no, they blitzed a good amount, and
- 9:38Speaker 3: they featured defensive backs, which you know, not a lot
- 9:42Speaker 3: of teams do. I mean, the Chiefs do, the Bucks do.
- 9:45Speaker 3: They're going to see that this coming week. They always
- 9:48Speaker 3: have trouble with it too against Tampa. But yeah, that
- 9:51Speaker 3: was that was a big deal that they used defensive
- 9:54Speaker 3: backs to blitz quite a bit. I mean they did
- 9:56Speaker 3: on the mccullis sack. The other player I remember was
- 9:59Speaker 3: the fourth down I think it was early in the
- 10:01Speaker 3: fourth quarter when the Lake came off the edge and
- 10:04Speaker 3: he forced Jalen out of the pocket. He threw the
- 10:06Speaker 3: eat incompletion that probably should have been intercepted, but it
- 10:09Speaker 3: was better that he knocked it down because it was
- 10:11Speaker 3: fourth down. Yeah, so they they were pretty aggressive, which
- 10:16Speaker 3: is somewhat interesting given their corners, you know, but up
- 10:22Speaker 3: to this point, in the season, the Eagles had not
- 10:25Speaker 3: really taken advantage of being, you know, working the outside.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I mean, this was the first game where Jalen really
- 10:31Speaker 3: threw the ball to AJ Brown outside the numbers, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 3: and it was the third game of the season. Now,
- 10:36Speaker 3: they've done that over the last number of years as
- 10:38Speaker 3: well as any team in the league, working outside the
- 10:40Speaker 3: numbers with Hurtz to Brown, but they hadn't really done
- 10:44Speaker 3: it until this game.
- 10:46Speaker 2: So it sounds like you think that they were trying
- 10:47Speaker 2: to catch the Eagles at a time where that normal
- 10:50Speaker 2: downfield connection that they thrive on, those one and ones,
- 10:53Speaker 2: they weren't for whatever reason, hitting them very often in
- 10:56Speaker 2: the rams. Maybe thought that they could capitalize on that.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Yeah, they certainly know more than I do about many things,
- 11:02Speaker 3: you know, because coaches no coaches, and you know, they
- 11:05Speaker 3: understand all that, so they know more than I do.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I'm just watching tape. But clearly they felt that this
- 11:12Speaker 3: was the way to go in this game. And quite frankly,
- 11:14Speaker 3: until Jalen started, you know, pumping Aj in the in
- 11:18Speaker 3: the I guess mid third quarter ish, it had been
- 11:22Speaker 3: very successful.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Just interesting team coming out of the comfort zone like that.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I mean every once in a while, Like we'll talk
- 11:30Speaker 2: about Vic in our next one. Vic seems to be
- 11:32Speaker 2: blitzing a little bit more than normal, but not at
- 11:34Speaker 2: like you know, from twelve percent to three is quite
- 11:38Speaker 2: a that's quite a I mean that that's a drastic
- 11:40Speaker 2: philosophical difference, So that that's a tell that they think
- 11:43Speaker 2: that there's something they could.
- 11:44Speaker 5: And the blitzing of the corners was interesting greg Or macaulay, Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 5: which you talked about in the pregame, like that's one
- 11:51Speaker 5: got to look at and there you are.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's well, he's kind of there in
- 11:56Speaker 3: their dime. He's kind of their wild card. He lines
- 11:58Speaker 3: up anywhere. He will helped like post safety, he'll blitz,
- 12:01Speaker 3: he'll play in the box. And Lake is a really
- 12:03Speaker 3: good football player too, who's very multi dimensional in what
- 12:07Speaker 3: he can bring to the table. So you know, for
- 12:09Speaker 3: for what three two and a half, even look the
- 12:13Speaker 3: Goddard play, which we'll get to. I don't want to
- 12:16Speaker 3: say it's an aberration, but it just was a perfect
- 12:19Speaker 3: play call against the coverage they got. But putting that
- 12:22Speaker 3: play aside, they really the past game was really not
- 12:27Speaker 3: it wasn't there. It just which was kind of the
- 12:30Speaker 3: way it wasn't at all. It kind of had been
- 12:32Speaker 3: the way it'd been through the first two games.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Right right, yeah, all right, So let's talk a little
- 12:39Speaker 2: bit more about x's and knowns greg Eagles offense. They've
- 12:44Speaker 2: been kind of varying between eleven and twelve personnel. They
- 12:47Speaker 2: play more twelve personnel than usual, but it seemed like
- 12:50Speaker 2: there was a little bit of a shift there this game.
- 12:52Speaker 3: This game was high percentage eleven personnel eighty three percent.
- 12:57Speaker 3: You know, again, it's hard to know the reason. You know,
- 13:00Speaker 3: maybe they I don't know, you know, maybe they felt
- 13:03Speaker 3: they with the personnel the Rams would have put on
- 13:07Speaker 3: the field because obviously the Rams then would would play
- 13:10Speaker 3: their nickel, whereas their base is a five to two.
- 13:14Speaker 3: So uh, you know, it's it's it's hard to know,
- 13:18Speaker 3: you know, the exact reason for that, but they certainly
- 13:22Speaker 3: played a high percentage of eleven personnel in this game.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Jeff, two things. It's a and we talked about this
- 13:27Speaker 5: in the pregame show. They were so down at corner
- 13:29Speaker 5: with Witherspoon on ir uh you know that you figured
- 13:34Speaker 5: the Eagles, Now they didn't do it for the second
- 13:36Speaker 5: half once they got to the second half. As Greg said,
- 13:38Speaker 5: in the middle of the third quarter, then it really
- 13:40Speaker 5: started going in for the corners. But it also gets
- 13:42Speaker 5: Ka Katara off the field, and we talked about repeatedly
- 13:45Speaker 5: how he struggled in pass blocking. Kaka Terra played less
- 13:49Speaker 5: than twenty percent of the snaps. I think he didn't
- 13:51Speaker 5: really played very much.
- 13:51Speaker 3: So well, he didn't play a lot. And you know
- 13:53Speaker 3: the other thing, Jeff, it could be the way the
- 13:55Speaker 3: game played out too. I mean, you know, who knows
- 13:57Speaker 3: if they had been able to run the ball really
- 13:59Speaker 3: well right from the star in the game, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 3: didn't get away from them a little bit. You know,
- 14:03Speaker 3: maybe they stay more than twelve personnel, but you know, clearly,
- 14:06Speaker 3: you know, when they wanted to throw the ball, they
- 14:09Speaker 3: they decided to go with eleven personnel. They had to
- 14:11Speaker 3: throw the ball at some point.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I know you felt you noticed in as the game
- 14:17Speaker 2: went on that there were some throws that Joan made
- 14:19Speaker 2: that were some pretty good progression raids.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, there are a couple of times I
- 14:24Speaker 3: thought he did that really well, you know, and I
- 14:27Speaker 3: think people get the sense that you know, he can't
- 14:29Speaker 3: do that, well, he can do it, you know, I
- 14:31Speaker 3: would say that they don't do it a lot, and
- 14:33Speaker 3: he doesn't do it a lot, and I don't know
- 14:36Speaker 3: the reason for that, but I thought that he made,
- 14:38Speaker 3: you know, some some good position reads in this game.
- 14:41Speaker 3: There was one in particulary which was actually the same
- 14:44Speaker 3: play as on the McCullough sack. It was they came
- 14:48Speaker 3: back to the same play and I think that was
- 14:51Speaker 3: probably third quarter. I'm trying to think exactly when it
- 14:57Speaker 3: was again, I definitely, oh, yeah, it was six. It
- 14:59Speaker 3: was Smith sixteen yards on third and ten on their
- 15:02Speaker 3: third third quarter possession. I said, was Hurts at his best,
- 15:05Speaker 3: working through his progression and hitting Smith laid in the
- 15:07Speaker 3: down on an outside dig. It was the same concept
- 15:10Speaker 3: they ran on the mccullis sack, messed with double dig
- 15:13Speaker 3: behind it. This time Hirts was clean in the pocket
- 15:15Speaker 3: versus the Rams three man rush. Lake added in late
- 15:18Speaker 3: and it was cover two behind it. And you know,
- 15:21Speaker 3: Jalen did a great job there. He had time, he
- 15:23Speaker 3: worked through the progression and it was a big third
- 15:25Speaker 3: down conversion.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that was one of the most important players of
- 15:28Speaker 2: the game.
- 15:29Speaker 5: It's see and they and they talked about it after
- 15:31Speaker 5: the game. Players did it seemed like when they want tempo.
- 15:34Speaker 5: Jalen started feeling it. He just seemed to be in
- 15:35Speaker 5: a rhythm. Whereas the first half, I mean, yeah, you're
- 15:39Speaker 5: watching the tape, so we're at home watching, right, I
- 15:42Speaker 5: feel like they could not get anything going. And yes
- 15:46Speaker 5: they did blitz, which is surprising. Second half, it's just amazing.
- 15:50Speaker 5: It was like again the tail of two halves. He
- 15:52Speaker 5: was in a rhythm. No, here's another question. Did their
- 15:55Speaker 5: line protect him better? Did you think, yeah they did?
- 15:58Speaker 3: I mean yes, I would say that that's true for sure.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I mean, yeah they did. You know, when this was
- 16:04Speaker 3: a game where they did go more no huddle, and
- 16:06Speaker 3: that's another factor that's I probably forgot to put that
- 16:09Speaker 3: in my notes typing everything, But they went more no huddle.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I mean twelve of Jalen's dropbacks were no huddle and
- 16:16Speaker 3: he was nine for ten for eighty yards with a touchdown.
- 16:19Speaker 3: So again, they did more in you know, as this
- 16:22Speaker 3: game progressed, probably because they had to, but they did
- 16:26Speaker 3: more of that than in either of the first two games,
- 16:30Speaker 3: and more like last year, where no huddle was clearly
- 16:34Speaker 3: a foundation of the way in which they played.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think some of our YouTube conspiracy theorists have
- 16:40Speaker 2: the cart before the horse on the no huddle because
- 16:43Speaker 2: some are suggesting that the no huddle is the reason
- 16:46Speaker 2: why the offense functioned so well and wondering why they
- 16:48Speaker 2: didn't do it earlier in the game. And my counter
- 16:51Speaker 2: that would be, well, you can't go no huddle when
- 16:53Speaker 2: you're facing second and eight and third and ten and
- 16:55Speaker 2: third and fifteen. You have to be ahead of this,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you have to be with the sticks. It's hard to
- 16:59Speaker 2: go to a huddle. Why are you gonna go no
- 17:01Speaker 2: huddle so that you can run the ball of Saquon
- 17:02Speaker 2: on third and fifteen up the middle riskly trying to punt.
- 17:05Speaker 2: They had no very few positive plays to be able
- 17:09Speaker 2: to then get to the line and huddle, So.
- 17:11Speaker 3: It was no huddle normally, Again nothing's one hundred percent,
- 17:14Speaker 3: but no huddle teams normally start getting into no huddle
- 17:18Speaker 3: after they get a first down or after maybe they
- 17:21Speaker 3: on first down they gain eight yards. You know, you
- 17:24Speaker 3: may your point is one hundred percent, correct, Jeff, I
- 17:27Speaker 3: mean you don't. You don't go no huddle when it's
- 17:29Speaker 3: third and twelve.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Right, And I know the conspiracy theorists think that they
- 17:32Speaker 2: went no huddle because that allowed Jalen Hurts to make
- 17:35Speaker 2: all the play calls and neutered Kevin Petula.
- 17:39Speaker 4: So we're only three weeks in and.
- 17:40Speaker 3: R By the way, no huddle. There's forms of no huddle.
- 17:43Speaker 3: There's no huddle where you stand at the line and
- 17:45Speaker 3: you can still snap the ball with one second on
- 17:47Speaker 3: the play clock. No huddle, which happens a lot. There's
- 17:51Speaker 3: no huddle where you go really fast and the quarterback
- 17:53Speaker 3: does control the game. And then there's kind of that
- 17:55Speaker 3: mid tempo no huddle where you're kind of in between
- 17:58Speaker 3: fast and slow. So there's really three forms of no huddle.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I'm sure most people assume no huddle means you're just
- 18:04Speaker 3: snapping the ball right away. That's not necessarily true.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Correct, And also, you know, no huddle can be used
- 18:11Speaker 2: differently r like for example, sometimes it's great to no
- 18:13Speaker 2: huddle against a team that substitutes a lot up front
- 18:16Speaker 2: so that you keep those guys off the sideline. I'm
- 18:18Speaker 2: not sure, I'll ask you. I'm not sure that was
- 18:20Speaker 2: the reason against the Rams. I don't think the Rams
- 18:22Speaker 2: have like seven or eight guys. No, no, no, no,
- 18:25Speaker 2: there was just a function of what the Eagles do.
- 18:27Speaker 3: It was a function of the fact that the Eagles
- 18:29Speaker 3: needed to sort of change the tempo of the game
- 18:31Speaker 3: for obvious reasons, and then they started to make a
- 18:34Speaker 3: couple of plays and they just felt like, Okay, let's
- 18:37Speaker 3: start picking up the tempo.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Because last year, in fact, I think you might have
- 18:41Speaker 5: had the numbers for us last year. Jalen's Hurts, his
- 18:44Speaker 5: numbers in no huddle were phenomenal. Last year they were phenomenal. Yeah,
- 18:49Speaker 5: and you know, Deve Flippo, John D. Flippa told me
- 18:53Speaker 5: one year, I forget where he was. It might have
- 18:55Speaker 5: been Gardon Minshew and Jackson, one of the quarterbacks he coached,
- 18:58Speaker 5: was so good with tempo and it got him to rhythm.
- 19:02Speaker 5: It It fit the quarterback because the game more responsibility,
- 19:07Speaker 5: You're you're moving faster and you got to make quicker decisions.
- 19:11Speaker 5: That was the thing that he told me. And Hurts
- 19:13Speaker 5: was just such a rhythm. Jeff, in the second half,
- 19:15Speaker 5: as I sent it back to you, it's kind of
- 19:17Speaker 5: like you talk about it Tail two Haus. They were
- 19:19Speaker 5: anemic on offense, pathetic on offense in every phase.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Well this way last year Hurts had one hundred and
- 19:27Speaker 3: eight dropbacks and no huddle. Now again, You don't necessarily
- 19:30Speaker 3: have to do that every single game. The Eagles had
- 19:32Speaker 3: some games last year where they dominated. You just go
- 19:34Speaker 3: play ball, you know. But he had one hundred and
- 19:36Speaker 3: eight dropbacks and this is regular season, so that's what's
- 19:39Speaker 3: And he played how many games last year because.
- 19:42Speaker 4: He missed I think he played fifteen?
- 19:44Speaker 3: Okay, so fifteen mean one hundred and eight, So fifteen
- 19:47Speaker 3: times seven if I do the math, is that one
- 19:50Speaker 3: hundred and five.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Something like that, Yeah, right around there.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so that's on average seven. He was phenomenal
- 19:57Speaker 3: in no huddle. He completed. He was seventy one for
- 19:59Speaker 3: ninety six, completing seventy four percent, with three touchdowns and
- 20:03Speaker 3: no picks. He was only sacked five times. Well, I mean,
- 20:10Speaker 3: you know again, and we talked about this last week.
- 20:14Speaker 3: You know, I think Kevin Petulo has to get into
- 20:17Speaker 3: a rhythm too, people, you know, that's part of it.
- 20:20Speaker 3: You know, Jalen has to feel comfortable with the play calls.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Kevin Petulo has to feel comfortable with how the game
- 20:25Speaker 3: progresses because that's new to him. You know. So there's
- 20:29Speaker 3: there's a number of factors here. And when you win
- 20:32Speaker 3: the games, obviously, you know, you're you're happy, and then
- 20:35Speaker 3: you can work on this without having losses. But you know,
- 20:38Speaker 3: it's looks. I know, there's not a lot of games,
- 20:41Speaker 3: and people think, you know, oh my god, what happens
- 20:44Speaker 3: if you lose a game? But it's still a process
- 20:47Speaker 3: over the course of his season, and you know that's
- 20:50Speaker 3: what happens.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Hey, you know that one guy in the group chat
- 20:54Speaker 2: who hit a five leg parlay week one and he
- 20:56Speaker 2: wouldn't shut up about it for the rest of the season.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Sounds like happening, right, Yeah, Yeah, it could be him.

- 23:03Speaker 2: All right, good stuff? Why don't we take a look
- 23:05Speaker 2: at them all twenty two. I want to go focus
- 23:08Speaker 2: really in on early on some of the things that
- 23:10Speaker 2: went wrong, and we'll go on what went right. You
- 23:13Speaker 2: had mentioned the blitzing here, and there was one early
- 23:18Speaker 2: in the game. This is McCullough is going to come
- 23:20Speaker 2: from pretty deep here, Greg to get a sack on
- 23:23Speaker 2: Jaalen Hurts. So why don't you set the stage of
- 23:26Speaker 2: what the Rams are doing here?
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, this was the the McCulla sack, which was the
- 23:29Speaker 3: third and eight. So this came out of a six
- 23:32Speaker 3: man front look with Stuart the fifth defensive lineman. He
- 23:36Speaker 3: was on the ball in the a gap with the
- 23:39Speaker 3: safety curl lined up over the right tackle prior. That's
- 23:42Speaker 3: how they kind of set this up. So you know,
- 23:48Speaker 3: you can kind of see as you run it a little, Jeff,
- 23:49Speaker 3: just to see it sort of start develop. So they
- 23:52Speaker 3: basically have a six man front, okay, and you can
- 23:57Speaker 3: see it. So now now here's the way you block it.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You got five to block, whichever five probably, and you
- 24:05Speaker 3: got the back and I believe it's Barkley here, is
- 24:08Speaker 3: it not?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yes?
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yeah, So they're not going to rush all all. You know,
- 24:16Speaker 3: the guys, you see that number ten, Stewart drops out.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I love that kid, by the way, I loved Hi
- 24:21Speaker 3: Pimenetta Michigan. He played a lot of snaps this week too.
- 24:24Speaker 3: He's very strong. So they end up with a five
- 24:26Speaker 3: man pressure against a six man protection. Now again, you
- 24:32Speaker 3: can start getting caught up in who made the mistake
- 24:36Speaker 3: here if you keep going forward. I personally believe Barkley
- 24:41Speaker 3: made it. Like, I don't know why Barkley would be
- 24:43Speaker 3: reacting to Verse.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, he's picking up the wide rush, right, but.
- 24:48Speaker 3: That's an edge defensive lineman. Verse, who's Prior's guy. I mean,
- 24:53Speaker 3: so to me, Barkley's got to recognize this and pick
- 24:57Speaker 3: And by the way, you know, Hurts didn't recognize it,
- 25:02Speaker 3: but Hurts shouldn't. This should have been picked up. Mm hm,
- 25:06Speaker 3: you know, maybe Hurts did recognize it and figured it
- 25:08Speaker 3: was picked up. Yeah, he took a shot there too. Man.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I thought this was the hardest that hurt I mean,
- 25:16Speaker 2: even Hurts never fumbles, but the way Verse hit him
- 25:19Speaker 2: on that strip sack, I mean, there was no way
- 25:20Speaker 2: he couldn't fumble because hurt. Verse didn't even go for
- 25:24Speaker 2: the ball, He just leveled him. On the right hard.
- 25:27Speaker 2: He took some director.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he hit him hard.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I agree with you. I thought the
- 25:31Speaker 2: same thing watching it that Saquon. I couldn't understand why
- 25:35Speaker 2: Saquon was blocking. It was double teaming with prior to
- 25:38Speaker 2: block Verse and not taking the guy who would or Yeah.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I mean, you know it's it's you know again, I said,
- 25:47Speaker 3: Hurts did not recognize the pressure. Maybe he did, and
- 25:50Speaker 3: and maybe he expected it to be picked up, which
- 25:52Speaker 3: it should have been picked I mean when you look
- 25:54Speaker 3: at it from the end zone as you're just showing it,
- 25:57Speaker 3: I mean it should have been picked up.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Right. You want to to Aj immediately here, like right
- 26:03Speaker 2: or out of the mesh point, get rid of the ball
- 26:05Speaker 2: right here to AJ if you can.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and he probably could have for sure.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah, what was going on?
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, you know, it's you know. Barkley had
- 26:16Speaker 3: a couple of blocks later in the game. They were
- 26:18Speaker 3: actually pretty good. He had a good block on the
- 26:20Speaker 3: brown fade, the short fade for a touchdown. But he's
- 26:24Speaker 3: not a great pass protector.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Right, Jeff.
- 26:26Speaker 5: The biggest knock on him from the people we spoke
- 26:28Speaker 5: with at the time of signing last year was pre
- 26:30Speaker 5: snap sorting. He just really struggled with it.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he does.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Yeah, And that that's the thing you get concerned about
- 26:36Speaker 5: because with Shipley out, who will be guy who'll play
- 26:39Speaker 5: on third down? We'll see if he could play this week.
- 26:42Speaker 5: They don't really have another guy.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah, No, you're right. You're right. At the times last
- 26:47Speaker 2: year that we credited sae Quon Barkley and say, hey,
- 26:49Speaker 2: he's making improvement, seemed to be when he knew exactly
- 26:51Speaker 2: who to block, where to get his body and right.
- 26:54Speaker 2: But the sorting element is half the battle, and you
- 26:56Speaker 2: got to know who you're responsible for before anything.
- 27:00Speaker 3: And that time, well, you know, running backs have to
- 27:04Speaker 3: understand fronts and pressures the same as quarterbacks, right, and
- 27:08Speaker 3: that's Look, we all know there's some guys who stay
- 27:10Speaker 3: in the league just because they can do that really
- 27:12Speaker 3: really well.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Jeremy McNichols. By the way, you talked to someone who's
- 27:16Speaker 5: now with Washington, Jeff, Yeah, in the league because he
- 27:19Speaker 5: could pass protect.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, some guys are really really good at it.
- 27:23Speaker 2: All right. I mentioned those seventeen plays where the Eagles
- 27:26Speaker 2: basically did nothing from the bottom of the end of
- 27:29Speaker 2: the first quarter to the third. But here we go.
- 27:32Speaker 2: This is ironically happens after after a holding call by Landon,
- 27:39Speaker 2: Dickerson puts him at I believe it was like third
- 27:41Speaker 2: and twelve, and this is where he hits aj Brown
- 27:44Speaker 2: for thirty eight yards right before the Goddard touchdown.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Oh and the god it touchdown was the next play.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yes, it was. So I'll take a look at this
- 27:52Speaker 2: is the third quarter. This is to me what opens
- 27:54Speaker 2: it up Greg that the first big play of what
- 27:57Speaker 2: would all of a sudden become a bunch of big plays.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And it looks like the Rams here are showing like
- 28:02Speaker 2: they want to be aggressive upfront.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Yeah, well this was if this was slugo, right, it was, Yeah, yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 3: this was slugo. They started to drive. This was when
- 28:16Speaker 3: they were at there. They started to drive with an
- 28:19Speaker 3: outcut to Brown for eight yards. This is when they
- 28:21Speaker 3: started getting Brown involved in the game. This was their
- 28:24Speaker 3: second third quarter possession, so.
- 28:25Speaker 5: They slug slant up and go right.
- 28:28Speaker 3: They started to drive with an outcut for eight yards
- 28:31Speaker 3: to Brown and then on second and thirteen he hits
- 28:33Speaker 3: Brown for thirty eight yards on slug o. So you
- 28:37Speaker 3: know this was you can run it.
- 28:40Speaker 2: This was just you know, I just wanted to note
- 28:42Speaker 2: they are interestingly here in twelve personnel. You see the
- 28:45Speaker 2: two tight ends lined up so on a second in
- 28:49Speaker 2: line right, so it's.
- 28:49Speaker 3: A closed boundary and twins to the field. So what
- 28:52Speaker 3: they're getting from the front is not unusual here for
- 28:56Speaker 3: the Rams, I mean, because they're in the twelve personnel
- 28:58Speaker 3: So the RAMS are playing you know, the twelve personnel package.
- 29:03Speaker 3: So but yeah, they were gonna Hurts knows now that
- 29:08Speaker 3: he's got Brown one on one because of the positioning
- 29:11Speaker 3: of the safeties, so you know, this is not this
- 29:15Speaker 3: read in and of itself isn't tough. But he made
- 29:17Speaker 3: a great throw hand. This was actually pretty good coverage
- 29:21Speaker 3: because Durance playing off coverage, so you know he does
- 29:25Speaker 3: obviously if you run it, he does react.
- 29:28Speaker 2: But he's kind of like right here, right there, there's.
- 29:34Speaker 3: A little bit what's that he recovers a little bit.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but if you see where Jalen throws, jill'st
- 29:41Speaker 2: the ball right now and this is a good Yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 2: his brow is not open, right.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Yeah. This is the trust factor that we've seen over
- 29:48Speaker 3: the years. I mean, it's his guy running vertically, he's
- 29:51Speaker 3: gonna he's gonna give him a chance. And again he's
- 29:54Speaker 3: not wide open. He's giving him a chance.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Because he got a past strushure who he had to
- 29:58Speaker 5: avoid a little bit.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I was fisk.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Somebody was in hurts.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly as he's throwing there.
- 30:05Speaker 5: Yeah, you could see it.
- 30:07Speaker 2: But he didn't lose any velocity or he didn't lose
- 30:10Speaker 2: y throw, didn't lose any accuracy. It is downfield though,
- 30:13Speaker 2: I mean, you got to be able to get your
- 30:15Speaker 2: your fresh.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It's great ball.
- 30:17Speaker 5: It's a great ball, right, a big time NFL. What
- 30:20Speaker 5: an incredible catch and a great throw.
- 30:22Speaker 3: It's a great ball and a great catch. Because that's
- 30:24Speaker 3: pretty good coverage right there.
- 30:26Speaker 5: That's that's pretty You would call that the NFL very
- 30:29Speaker 5: good coverage.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really good coverage.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I'm sure what's Who's fourteen again is that he wouldn't
- 30:37Speaker 2: have played that any better, but that.
- 30:38Speaker 5: He's a smaller guy and this is one where Brown
- 30:41Speaker 5: should bid and muscle him, and he did. This is
- 30:43Speaker 5: just a great player.
- 30:43Speaker 3: So let's see it from the end zone to see
- 30:45Speaker 3: the pressure.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I'm sorry, you know what, I may have just because
- 30:48Speaker 2: I just wanted to highlight to throw.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, this is this is great.
- 30:55Speaker 3: This is great. This is great, This is you know,
- 30:57Speaker 3: this is what we've been waiting for for two games.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks like that's Dickerson on Fisk, by the way,
- 31:03Speaker 2: who gets taken to the outside of Fish.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that's Dickerson sixty correct, I.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Should say inside. I'm sorry, it kind of goes just
- 31:11Speaker 2: to inside shoulder on him.
- 31:12Speaker 3: And it's just a great throw, great ball, absolutely ball strength.
- 31:19Speaker 3: This is what he does as well as any quarterback
- 31:21Speaker 3: in the league is make those kinds of throws.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Right, And then of course the very next play after that.
- 31:28Speaker 3: You know, this play I watched many times because I
- 31:32Speaker 3: just this is football to me, this is you know,
- 31:35Speaker 3: this this was all go special versus Cover two invert,
- 31:40Speaker 3: and it couldn't have been done any better. Okay, because
- 31:43Speaker 3: it's as if they knew they were going to get
- 31:45Speaker 3: this coverage, and maybe they did, because they played a
- 31:48Speaker 3: lot of Cover two up to this point. So what
- 31:50Speaker 3: I mean by cover two invert, Okay, Cover two invert
- 31:54Speaker 3: means that the corner becomes the deep path player. And
- 31:58Speaker 3: that's what happened down at the botto him to the
- 32:01Speaker 3: field down at the bottom of the screen. The corner
- 32:03Speaker 3: down below became the deep half player and the slot
- 32:07Speaker 3: became the flat player in cover two. So now, because
- 32:11Speaker 3: it's all go special, meaning it's four go routes and
- 32:14Speaker 3: a two by two set, which because that corner down
- 32:18Speaker 3: below becomes the deep half player, he's so far removed
- 32:22Speaker 3: with what's happening to the boundary that he's not even
- 32:25Speaker 3: a factor in this at all. So what happens is
- 32:28Speaker 3: is they're going to run all verts up top. And
- 32:32Speaker 3: because in cover two, the middle hole defender, who's the linebacker, spates,
- 32:38Speaker 3: he opens to the field. They almost one hundred percent
- 32:41Speaker 3: of the time the middle hole defender in cover two
- 32:44Speaker 3: opens to the wide side of the field, So he's
- 32:47Speaker 3: not a factor either. Okay, so now what you inno
- 32:50Speaker 3: sense get is you get a two on one on
- 32:53Speaker 3: the safety to that side. That's essentially what you get here,
- 32:57Speaker 3: a two to on one, and that's Brown outside of
- 33:00Speaker 3: got her. And it's Brown intentionally because you know in
- 33:04Speaker 3: cover two that if Brown one runs vertically, that safety
- 33:07Speaker 3: has to expand to deal with Brown because the corner
- 33:11Speaker 3: can only sink so far. And Cover two because he's
- 33:14Speaker 3: a flat player.
- 33:15Speaker 5: By the way, on the Matchup show last week at ESPN,
- 33:18Speaker 5: what did what did you guys talk about cover two
- 33:20Speaker 5: invert right? I remember that so great?
- 33:22Speaker 3: So this play it's as if this play was called
- 33:24Speaker 3: for this coverage. I mean, it probably looked watching the
- 33:28Speaker 3: game for people who don't know the coverage that it
- 33:30Speaker 3: was a bust, because god, it was so wide open.
- 33:32Speaker 3: But it's not a bust. You can see the whole
- 33:35Speaker 3: thing develop.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Yep. Here, I'll freeze it halfway. I mistakenly thought, originally
- 33:40Speaker 2: looking at it, that it was just turning from cover
- 33:41Speaker 2: two to cover three. Now, I didn't realize the responsibility
- 33:46Speaker 2: you were saying of the of the corner to play
- 33:48Speaker 2: the flat right.
- 33:50Speaker 3: See the corner down below is expanding. He's the flat player,
- 33:53Speaker 3: and that's Durant again. Here's he's he's the he's a
- 33:57Speaker 3: half field safety.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Here rights and seventy four it right tackle, good job, yeah, yep.
- 34:03Speaker 2: And that leaves the teams those two receivers on the outside.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Like you said, it widens the defense and leaves those
- 34:09Speaker 2: seams wide open. It almost felt greg It almost felt
- 34:13Speaker 2: like he could have Hurts could have picked his poison
- 34:16Speaker 2: between Goddard and Dotson.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Is that well?
- 34:20Speaker 3: But got HER's the right throw here without without question,
- 34:23Speaker 3: because you know, as soon as he sees his safety,
- 34:27Speaker 3: good throw the field, safety drop down, he knows what
- 34:33Speaker 3: he's got. He knows what he's got. I mean, this
- 34:35Speaker 3: is this is pitch and catch, This is perfect route concept,
- 34:39Speaker 3: all go special versus dis coverage. Jalen knew what he had. Ye,
- 34:43Speaker 3: great throw. This was not oh where should I go
- 34:46Speaker 3: with it? He knew what he had.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Well, It's funny, Goddard said after the game. He goes,
- 34:49Speaker 5: you know, we don't throw a lot of seam passes.
- 34:51Speaker 5: He just told the truth. Yeah, and he let He
- 34:54Speaker 5: was very happy. He's like, this is great. He got
- 34:56Speaker 5: open in the middle and they're not going to stop him.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 2: The Eagles have been seeing a lot of cover too,
- 35:02Speaker 2: Greg the last three weeks. I mean, I feel like
- 35:04Speaker 2: they've played.
- 35:05Speaker 3: They played, and the Rams played a lot of it
- 35:07Speaker 3: up to this point, which you know, like I said,
- 35:09Speaker 3: could have been called with the because this was first
- 35:12Speaker 3: intend it was the play right after the Brown, great
- 35:14Speaker 3: catch we saw and great ball by Hurts. You know,
- 35:18Speaker 3: they they could have anticipated because everything in football's probability
- 35:21Speaker 3: and tendency. Nothing's one hundred percent. But you feel pretty good,
- 35:25Speaker 3: you know about what you're going to get.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Right, all right, one more and that is the deep
- 35:33Speaker 2: dig we're gonna look at.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Was this the Smith? Third down?
- 35:36Speaker 2: It is third down? And this was a really nice player,
- 35:38Speaker 2: I thought, and what we used to talked about with
- 35:40Speaker 2: the progression read but one of the this.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Was the same ground concept as the McCall a sack
- 35:45Speaker 3: where it was mesh and and the and the double
- 35:48Speaker 3: dig behind it. And Jalen initially looks to his right
- 35:53Speaker 3: and it's not there, and then he's really well protected
- 35:57Speaker 3: here and he's able to come back to Smith, uh
- 36:00Speaker 3: running the dig to his to his left, and that's
- 36:04Speaker 3: that Smith in motion right and will shift.
- 36:07Speaker 2: It's yeah, you know, so it's obviously is that is
- 36:10Speaker 2: this still? Is this one or two? Because the guy
- 36:13Speaker 2: is drifting back one or two shell deep.
- 36:18Speaker 3: The coverage, Yeah, keep running it.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I had trouble deciphering it myself, so.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I think this is two.
- 36:32Speaker 2: They're just not the safeties just are not at the
- 36:34Speaker 2: same depth.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Yeah, because there's nothing on the right side of the field.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Go back.
- 36:38Speaker 3: It's it's because as soon as is that a JF
- 36:43Speaker 3: top yes to your watch what he runs if you
- 36:49Speaker 3: play it, so he doesn't runs part of the mash.
- 36:52Speaker 3: There's no reason for that safety on that side to
- 36:55Speaker 3: keep retreating because there's no vertical threat whatsoever.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Got it all right, So at the bottom, I'm gonna
- 37:00Speaker 2: rerun so we can all focus on Davante Smith.
- 37:03Speaker 3: He comes in motion, he shifts to the to the bunch.
- 37:06Speaker 3: He's number three in the bunch, yep, and you'll see
- 37:10Speaker 3: it's a mesh underneath mm hm And it's basically now
- 37:16Speaker 3: Devanta Smith had a widen his route, which is why
- 37:19Speaker 3: this took longer because of what the uh? I think
- 37:22Speaker 3: that's uh Quinton Lake who pushes him outside because this
- 37:26Speaker 3: took a long time, but fortunately hurts that all day
- 37:29Speaker 3: due to uh the pass protection? What the Fred Johnson again,
- 37:33Speaker 3: Jeff Smith, you know it's not meant for it to
- 37:37Speaker 3: take that long for him to run the outside dig
- 37:40Speaker 3: right way?
- 37:42Speaker 2: Is is this a planned blitz or does Quentin Lake
- 37:46Speaker 2: just say I have no responsibilities here, so I'm gonna
- 37:48Speaker 2: go rush the quarterback.
- 37:49Speaker 3: You know, it was a three man rush initially, and
- 37:52Speaker 3: I think he added in late. You know, I I
- 37:55Speaker 3: think he was probably part of the pressure, but uh huh,
- 37:59Speaker 3: because it was a four man pressure and I think
- 38:01Speaker 3: it's covered two.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense. I think we've adam. We learned
- 38:05Speaker 2: that Fangio sometimes likes to have defenders almost like a
- 38:08Speaker 2: chip block on an off of but like hit a
- 38:10Speaker 2: guy and then blitz.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Oh that was from okay, that was from.
- 38:15Speaker 2: From when Gannon started running the defense.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Yeah, this dick shouldn't take as long. But you know,
- 38:21Speaker 3: there's nothing to bunder Smith could do, and because Jalen
- 38:24Speaker 3: had so much time, he worked through the whole because
- 38:26Speaker 3: there's no one else open.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Right, Great, Yeah, that was such a huge player, And
- 38:31Speaker 2: really I wanted to highlight the protection here. I just
- 38:33Speaker 2: thought it was great protection. We'll watch it from this end.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I get it. It's just a three man rush, but
- 38:40Speaker 2: it was a complex one. I mean, they had a man.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Front to start to play, so therefore it becomes initially
- 38:47Speaker 3: one on one what we call five to zero protection.
- 38:50Speaker 3: And now guys can help afterwards, but they're starting out
- 38:54Speaker 3: with with one on one protection.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Right, Jeff, I don't think Fred Johnson had worked at
- 38:58Speaker 5: right tackle from what I understand it, Okay, I mean
- 39:03Speaker 5: the reporters could ask.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I just think he's so long armed at him and
- 39:06Speaker 2: he gets a great punch right there and He's able
- 39:09Speaker 2: to use.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Them too because they drop down. Look out.
- 39:13Speaker 5: Yeah, you're right, Greg. That pocket is incredibly clean and
- 39:17Speaker 5: hurts just delivered. You know this is this is him
- 39:19Speaker 5: at his best him and he sees it. Waits, didn't
- 39:22Speaker 5: bailt didn't move, didn't break himself down.
- 39:24Speaker 3: It works through it. This is a beautiful salt.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Yeah it was great.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Hey, fall is planting season.

- 41:48Speaker 2: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 41:52Speaker 2: one and up.
- 41:53Speaker 3: The point is, I think the past game really took off.
- 41:56Speaker 3: They started to work Brown on the outside. The Goddard play,
- 41:59Speaker 3: you know, came right after the first round play, which
- 42:01Speaker 3: in some ways jump started the offense. And the Goddard
- 42:05Speaker 3: play was just a great call, you know, the perfect
- 42:07Speaker 3: play call. And then when when push came to shove,
- 42:10Speaker 3: I mean, I you know, I made that point of
- 42:12Speaker 3: my notes and even even in the stuff I did
- 42:15Speaker 3: last summer when I send you guys all my notes
- 42:18Speaker 3: from watching, I said, and you know, Brown is so
- 42:21Speaker 3: critical to everything they do because he can win on
- 42:24Speaker 3: the outside and Jalen throws the ball on the outside. Well,
- 42:28Speaker 3: you still don't see a lot of throws inside. I mean,
- 42:30Speaker 3: the god Or play was inside obviously, but that was
- 42:32Speaker 3: just the perfect play call wide open. It wasn't you know,
- 42:35Speaker 3: it wasn't a window throw per se. You know, So
- 42:38Speaker 3: we'll see where they go for we look. The bottom
- 42:40Speaker 3: line is people are probably going to think, well, why
- 42:42Speaker 3: don't they do this every game? You know they do
- 42:46Speaker 3: theoretically they do some of this every game, but you
- 42:50Speaker 3: know they're not They're not really built like that, and
- 42:53Speaker 3: then people have to ask the question as to why
- 42:55Speaker 3: they're not built like that.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Well, I think maybe there's a fair argument. Ause Adam
- 42:58Speaker 2: and I were sort of debating this in the postgame show.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Is all right, you know, you have to be a
- 43:02Speaker 2: little bit different this year than you were last year,
- 43:04Speaker 2: and they've talked about generation and maybe it wouldn't hurt
- 43:08Speaker 2: you to come out with some of the It's like, again,
- 43:12Speaker 2: it felt like there are forced feeding Saquon. Maybe they
- 43:14Speaker 2: thought he was gonna break one. He's gonna break one.
- 43:17Speaker 4: I think if you go and.
- 43:18Speaker 2: It's usually just two or three plays, Greg, you know,
- 43:20Speaker 2: that's probably better than anybody where you go back and
- 43:22Speaker 2: you say, maybe there is where you don't just run
- 43:25Speaker 2: the ball on second down because you just didn't get
- 43:28Speaker 2: enough on like you try opening up that right with
- 43:31Speaker 2: some better fresher stuff on first and second down.
- 43:33Speaker 3: You know, even on that first series where they scored,
- 43:36Speaker 3: you know, just to wrap up, you know, I think
- 43:39Speaker 3: a great example of who they are is what happened
- 43:44Speaker 3: on that first series when uh wasn't there a fourth
- 43:49Speaker 3: and Uh there wasn't there a fourth and two? Maybe
- 43:52Speaker 3: on that first series.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Is that the one ling converted it with a run?
- 43:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but yes, yes, the fourth and two where they're
- 43:59Speaker 3: in you know, they're in rams territory. They're not going
- 44:02Speaker 3: to kick a field goal, so he ran for eighteen
- 44:04Speaker 3: yards on his own read concept. You know, they're a
- 44:07Speaker 3: four down offense and plus territory. I mean it's plays
- 44:10Speaker 3: like that. You know a lot of teams are not
- 44:12Speaker 3: going to do that. You know that's what they are,
- 44:15Speaker 3: and then you know you've got to you got to
- 44:17Speaker 3: defend Jalen Hurts in those situations and they didn't.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Absolutely all right, that has been a look at the
- 44:23Speaker 2: Eagles offense, and in the next episode we'll get through
- 44:26Speaker 2: the defense. So thank you again to Greg Cosell. For
- 44:29Speaker 2: Greg and Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. You've been watching
