- Chuck Atkinson: Hey everybody, welcome back to episode six of Play Under Review. We have your hosts Chuck Atkinson and Jeremy Spencer. Jer, we're ready to talk about another great weekend of football in the NHL and well the NHL season's off to a hot start. A lot of things going on. how you doing buddy? Jeremy: I'm doing pretty good. Yeah, it Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: was a pretty pretty fun weekend. Habs get on the the W column. Chuck Atkinson: That's right. Jeremy: There. We had we had to score three goals before they let us count one, but that's all right. We we still took the W. Chuck Atkinson: Well we're we're always ha more than happy to contribute to the cause of somebody else's Jeremy: Ha. Chuck Atkinson: success. So anything that we can do to stop our own and help yours Jeremy: Well, we we we needed it. It's a battle of the bottom of the Atlantic division at the moment, but it's early. So Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Yeah. It's you know, we don't wanna call it the way too early. not for your team, but for my team, it's we're we're well past cooked. Jeremy: Well Chuck Atkinson: Am I talking the Chargers or am I already talking to Red Wings? Anyways, anyways. Jeremy: yeah. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, no, great weekend, fantasy football of course. Jer and I were going head to head. So we'll drop a little nuggie on that one there as well, let folks know how how Jar made out and see if the season of the fleas is on its way to the championship. Jeremy: Well of course still it's it's the year of the fleas. Chuck Atkinson: T B D. T B D T B D, right Jerry? Jeremy: No no no. We're still fully confident. Chuck Atkinson: So yeah, no, a lot of great football. You're fully confident still. Jeremy: Well yeah, still fully confident. Chuck Atkinson: Alright, so let's just jump right into it then. since he just wants to dive right into the topic of the fleas. Jeremy: Ha. Chuck Atkinson: how how was your weekend? Jeremy: Well, it was and two weekend. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: But and I mean w i it Chuck Atkinson: So so the reason why he's stuttering right now, folks, is that he just cannot get over the fact of how I guess, putting it mildly, sucky his team did. Jer, what we Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: played, like I said, head to head. what was the final score? If you want to Jeremy: It was seventy-five to sixty. I put up a big sixty points. I had Chuck Atkinson: Sixty. Jeremy: my fo the the two run running backs and the two wide receivers on my team couldn't get more than twelve and a half points. CeeDee Lamb has Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: a one one point week after coming off thirty-two and a half points. So the year of the fleas has hit a road bump. But it's not Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: it's nothing major. Like C D Lamb at one point. Come on. Walker was on a friggin' Chuck Atkinson: Right. That's that's just that Jeremy: bye. I was in a situation I had Austin Eckler play. So it it was it was dire and br but Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: Brissett kicked ass. But Chuck Atkinson: He did. He did. Yeah. Jeremy: He got half my points. You got half the team's points pretty much. anyway, it wasn't a good week, but we'll regroup and we'll turn this two and four situation into a four and four situation Chuck Atkinson: Two and four. Jeremy: after yeah, I'm two and four. Chuck Atkinson: No, no, no, you're not two and four after week five. Jeremy: I mean sorry, what a yes, never mind. Four and six. Four Chuck Atkinson: Four and six. Jeremy: and six. Chuck Atkinson: Under the Mendoza line. Not ideal. Above it to the playoffs. It's still early, Jeremy: It's not great, no. Chuck Atkinson: it's still early. you know, week five, that means there's what another what eight, nine weeks to go in regular season fantasy football. So there's plenty of time to turn it around still. It's four and six. Like you said, Walker was on a bye, CD had a down game. That was just brutal though, that showing the head on Thursday night. against the the Buccaneers. They I thought it was hilarious when after the game Dak's walking back to the to the dressing room and he gets heckled by apparently a driver of some third party company that the team hires. but yeah as Dak's walking by he yells out embarrassing to him and Dak looks t you know Dak looks at him and he's like, Who are you to call me embarrassing? You know, given that that de Death Star look, like I'm Dak Prescott, I've won a total of how many playoff games? How dare you call my Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: play embarrassing at home against the Buccaneers on a Thursday night football game. And then I don't know what the gentleman said again thereafter, but you know, he said something I I think again and as Dak was progressing down the hallway and Dak turned around and tried to make it look like he's all tough guy now. Well, you know, if you're that angry about a fan heckling you on your way back to the dressing room because of your embarrassing gameplay on a Thursday night football where you got C D lamb one catch and didn't really manage to show up until the second half. Then Dak who? Dak Who? Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Really? I mean what has this guy done? I this i they're the most overrated team in the NFL. that that's just The Chargers, they're they're not an overrated team 'cause they they're just I don't know why the expectations are on them to do anything any year because they just fail. So that's why I say they suck and they do. Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: However, you know, the Cowboys, America's team, I mean come on, yeah, this is not nineteen seventy five anymore. There they're thirty two teams, we all live stream our games, there's the internet, heck, even I'm sure a lot of folks in Dallas cheer for the Houston Texans over the Cowboys. Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: you know, they at least the Texans have a defense. Well, not so much this year, but in general the terms over the years, they have a a reputable defense. Whereas the Cowboys they throw dollars, draft picks, trades to bring guys in. And they just get roasted week after week after week. It it's almost like putting on that jersey going to Dallas is some sort of I don't know, self-entitlement that hey I've arrived, I'm the man, I'm in Dallas, I'm in big D. Well, they're playing like they're they're honestly playing like they got little D's, quite frankly. And yeah. Jeremy: Yeah. I don't know what it is. They just can't they're they just have a hard time. They just they get they're Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. They're off. Jeremy: always you they should be better than they are all the time. Chuck Atkinson: They're they're fluff. They're they're a fluff. You know, i it's exactly it. They're a team that should be. But they're Might as well. Might as well. Jeremy: Bring back Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin. Little Emmett Smith. Chuck Atkinson: But yeah, anyways, around the NFL, shoot, the Jaguars are kicking ass again. looking great. packed Jeremy: That's what I said. That's what I said earlier. That's my sleeper pick for the year. Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely, absolutely. mine was the forty niners. They're doing okay at five and right now. They just beat Seattle, I think it was, in Seattle. past weekend if I'm not mistaken. And so that was a nice victory for them. Packers had a huge Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: win over the over the Bears. Jeremy: Yeah, they're looking a little bit they're looking Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: better, man. Looking a little more promising. Mar Marshawn Lloyd actually had a good game for me. That that was my Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: other fantasy league team, man, I put up one hundred and thirty one points, won two games. It's totally opposite over that league. My Chuck Atkinson: Nice. Jeremy: team is rolling over there. But yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Probably don't have probably don't have much of the carbon copy thing like I do. Like I have a lot of guys in the Riverview League and Halifax League. But Jeremy: I've got a couple of things. Like I have Brissett going in both of them, but no, I've got like my running backs over there are Cook and and Lloyd and and Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: I have what's his face that's suspended. which is why I have Lloyd. for the Packers. Yeah, I got Jacob, so Chuck Atkinson: Jacobs. Jacobs, yeah. Jeremy: I picked up Lloyd 'cause I had to, but and he hasn't had any good weeks yet, but he finally had like a fifteen point week this week and Cook had a good week and then I got I was off I've I've also got in Jigba over there and so yeah that's that's that team's looking pretty good. I and I got War Warren Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, JSN went off for another weekend, just doing JSN things. Jeremy: and McBride. I got the t one two tight end combo happening on that team too right now. So one's my flex. Chuck Atkinson: Nice. Yeah, that's a that's a that's definitely a good yeah. Yeah, no, it's yeah, and Arizona. Who'd they play again this weekend? Jeremy: Who's that? Arizona? Chuck Atkinson: cardinals. So who yeah. Jeremy: they played Yeah. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Detroit, that's right. Detroit. Yeah, that was a high scoring affair, yeah. I mean shoot, a anytime you can get somebody playing against Detroit on your fantasy football team, you throw in the starting lineup. It doesn't matter if Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: they're s you know, scrubs or not, they're gonna get you ten to fifteen points. but same goes for playing against Arizona. No defense and hey, Dallas goes in that conversation as well. But yeah, I know the Packers are doing great. I what I noticed with Jordan Love is that he's Gutten away from like correct I could be wrong in watching this, so I don't watch every Packer game from start to finish, but what I do watch and tune in, I'm finding that he's leaning more into his plant foot when he's throwing the ball downfield as opposed to doing the Aaron Rodgers thing where he was, you know, you you hop around there and you kind of darted off your back foot as kind of like a hop toss. Right, you know what I mean? Jeremy: Yeah, I think he's Chuck Atkinson: Like Rogers, you you scramble or he drops Jeremy: trying Chuck Atkinson: back there and he's got that little that that back foot Jeremy: Well, 'cause we've always had a not a very good offensive line. So quarterbacks have always had to be creative. But I think he's trusting them Chuck Atkinson: Well no, I don't I don't think it Jeremy: right more a little bit right now and he is I think he is planting a little bit more and maybe trusting his other line a little more and getting a throw off and not having to scroll. Chuck Atkinson: Well, I I think I I think what I'm just seeing, Jer, to be quite honest, is that he's going back to the way he was playing before when he came into the league, when he was going in college. 'Cause when he was when he started out with the Packers, didn't see it much but 'cause he was always behind Aaron Rodgers, but when he played, he was always a plant and drive your foot into the ground and throw, lean into the throw. Right? Jeremy: Yeah, okay. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Whereas opposed to Rogers, he kind of darts back a little bit and then lets her flip, right? So what Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: he's done over the last few games is he's actually changed back up to he's drived the ball more and thrown her downfield with purpose and actual Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: and it's gonna you know, it's turning into better accuracy, quite frankly. And you're seeing big games big seasons from Watson and Golden now on the Packers. And so yeah, I th you I think they're Jeremy: Yep. No, it's good. They're starting to starting to look a little more dangerous after not so great couple Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, and if they can get Parsons back as well, you know, they you know Jeremy: of first games. Yeah, that'll be big, man. Then they'll they'll have some D. And Minnesota just keeps rolling along five and somehow, like they're rolling and Kyler Murray's Chuck Atkinson: yeah. Jeremy: back playing for them and Yeah. Friggin' Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Yeah, no Jeremy: Vikings. Chuck Atkinson: Vikings defense, man. You Wentz, K Kyler Murray. yeah, either one of those guys right now they they could win a game with. And that's that's no dig on Kyler Murray 'cause he's a decent quarterback. but that just that defense is just unstoppable right now. It it's whoever whatever offense whatever great offense decides to run into that, like if the Lions ran into them right now They wouldn't Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: be scoring thirty five, forty points a game against the Vikings. I it might be down to fifteen to twenty and that's a hard get. Jeremy: Yeah. The they're they're tough to play right now. Chuck Atkinson: yeah. Jeremy: So what did you think last night of that the the Bills and Rams game? That was something that Chuck Atkinson: that was hot. Jeremy: was quite a game. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that was hot all the way through. but Josh I Jeremy: Just Chuck Atkinson: mean, what do you say about Josh Allen? He's now first in Bill's history. Total history, team history, not for passing touchdowns, not yet. For rushing or just scrimmage touchdowns. So that's rushing and receiving combined. Alright. Think that's over Jeremy: Yeah. Wow. Chuck Atkinson: Andre Reid. That's over James Lofton. That's over Thurman Thomas. The all time great running back in Hall of Famers. Your quarterback who's in his I think eighth or tenth year, I can't remember now exactly. what Josh is in, but he's already passed the two Hall of Famers. Yeah. Jeremy: Is it that long? I don't I he hasn't. Chuck Atkinson: I'd say at least eight years, but it feels like it now. It feels like eight years. Six, eight years, maybe. You wanna fact check me on that? Jeremy: I don't know. I'll fact check ya. So but yeah. Chuck Atkinson: But but I mean, you know, he had a couple of touchdowns last night on the ground or one sorry, one touchdown I believe on the ground and over hundred and twenty rushing yards. As your quarterback. and let's just throw in, Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: you know, two fifty plus for passing on top of it, and a couple more scores. Purdy you it's gonna be a it's gonna be a heated race for the V P this year. It's it's Jeremy: They selected him seventh overall in twenty eighteen. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, there we go. A year eight. Year eight. Jeremy: So he's currently in his ninth season, they're saying. Ha! That's a pretty not a Chuck Atkinson: Okay, ninth year. So eighth full year, ninth ninth ninth season, yeah. Jeremy: bad guess. Chuck Atkinson: It's pretty crazy though. Think about it. Jeremy: I would have thought six years or so. Chuck Atkinson: It's fly it's I guess, you know, it's flown by. When you're fantasy football, you really watch careers start and end. especially when you've been doing this for Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. It's crazy. Chuck Atkinson: thirty years. So yeah, it's Josh is doing Josh things. it Jeremy: But Chuck Atkinson: was a fantastic game though. Stafford played pretty good, not lights out. Puka had a pretty good game, 17 for I think it was 130 something. And the catches are nice, but the total yardage should have been higher with the amount of catches he had. Jeremy: Yeah. It just looked like Chuck Atkinson: Ram the Jeremy: early on in the game it was gonna be the Rams game and then the Bills just Chuck Atkinson: It did. Jeremy: kept hanging around and then it what a game. It was just a very exciting football game. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no, it it was. hey, Devontae Adams, time you know, ageless wonder this guy is, just you know, Jeremy: Still awesome. Chuck Atkinson: I I honestly I I I don't know why it is. I burn myself every year at the draft when I see him available in the last couple of years. And I think to myself, no, not this year. I'm not gonna if I get him this year, if I get him this year Yeah, Jeremy: Yeah, you just keep thinking, No, I'm not gonna put the money into it. Chuck Atkinson: it's like Derek Henry. It's like if I get him this year, if I go and chase this guy in the and and get him on my team, this is the year where he's gonna have the Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: fall off. He's gonna tail off. That's my luck. Jeremy: Yep. Yep. But he just never has it. Chuck Atkinson: but no, they just they're like fine wine. They just get better with age. And but yeah, I know I I guess my early season prediction of the Rams, being overrated and not making the playoffs is not looking too shabby thus far, sitting at two and three, a solid three games Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: behind the forty niners for first place in the division, so digging themselves a nice Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: early hole. Yeah. Jeremy: It is a little they they're they were almost a lot of people had them as the team, so but it's not it's far from over, but Chuck Atkinson: y y you you you talk you tune in. for sure. But you know, you go back and if six weeks ago before the season started and you see a lot of these shows, the Rams, the Rams, the Rams all time defense. they picked up McDuffie, they got Donald back, they got Garrett, you know, they they they're unstoppable. They got Devontae, Puka. All I'm hearing is old, old, old, old, old, old, Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: old. What are we talking about? Anyways, so then I was like, nope, this is the 49ers here. And look at them go baby. Look at them go. You're not gonna see me talk Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: about the Chargers. Not gonna see me talk about the Chargers. What are we, and five now? Owen five! Owen five. Jeremy: and five. Chuck Atkinson: We're in the same class as the Titans and the Dolphins. Jeremy: The Dolphins, don't they have a win? no, the Dolphins don't have Chuck Atkinson: Let's just say that out loud. Let's just say No, we don't no no Jeremy: a win. Chuck Atkinson: No, we're the three winless teams in the in the NFL right now. Jeremy: Yeah. It's funny and they're all in the A A F C so Chuck Atkinson: The Titans, the Dolphins, and the Chargers ha are all O and five. Jeremy: Yeah, even the Texans got themselves a win. Chuck Atkinson: my good lord. Well yeah, I mean at least they could beat the Titan the Titans. Jeremy: The Browns are friggin' three and two, man. Chuck Atkinson: What's the jets at? Jeremy: two and three. Typical Jetsy kind of stuff. Chuck Atkinson: So let's let's restate this. The Cleveland Browns are two and three, the Jets Jeremy: are worse than jets. Chuck Atkinson: are two and three. Jeremy: No, the Cleveland Browns are three and two. Chuck Atkinson: Three and two, that's right. Yeah, three and two, that's right. Cause they beat who they beat last week. Jeremy: They lost last week, but they were three and one going into the week. They lost Chuck Atkinson: That's right. Pittsburgh was it? Jeremy: yeah. Yeah, they lost to Pittsburgh. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Okay. So we're Jeremy: And they barely lost to the Vikings. They lost twenty one seventeen to the Vikes and the Vikes are five and Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. So nonetheless, you know, being three and two and and the two and three Jets and we're in the class of the Titans and the Dolphins, which were teams that were expected to be absolute hot garbage this year. Jeremy: But but the brands did lose to the Jets last week. That's who they lost to. Chuck Atkinson: Hey, all I hear is win column and lost column. Okay? Jeremy: Yeah. But before that they beat the Steelers, the Panthers and the Bucks. So you know, but they beat them. The Chuck Atkinson: They're quality. Jeremy: win is they're three and two. Is that the end of the day they're three and two. Chuck Atkinson: Right. They're cool they're it doesn't matter how you get to three and two. You play the schedule that to put in front of you. New England did last year and they went to the what conference finals. No, they went to the Super Bowl. No, Super Bowl, they were in the Super Bowl, weren't they? That's right. That was a forgettable performance. That's why I forgot about it, sorry. Jeremy: Yeah. Cause all you do is w Yeah. Superbowl. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And once you s once you start rolling though as a team and you put wins together, it doesn't matter where you were supposed to finish. You start believing you can actually win and then you get better 'cause it if your team has any guts, they they just all of a sudden we find ourselves at three and two. now we're six and four. How do we get to six and four where we're not supposed to be anywhere now and it's like, hey, Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: we can We can get to the playoffs. And then then Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: they can do something. Just a little bit of it's all sometimes up here. Chuck Atkinson: it's self i i it's it's it's self confidence, team confidence. W you get those listen, like I said, a win's a win. You play the teams that's in front of you on the calendar. You're not responsible for making that calendar, that schedule how it is. You just go out and play the games that you play. And if you happen to play Jeremy: Yeah, and but that's why there's always a a couple teams in every year in almost every league Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: that ends up going like Where these why how why are these guys here? 'Cause it happens. There's Chuck Atkinson: Well, the only actually the only league that can really apply to Jer to be honest is football. Is football because the teams when you're when you're winning, you're playing winning schedules. When you're losing, you're playing loser schedules typically at the bottom. And that's how those teams typically get back up to the top. So because and and that's only because the NFL has seventeen games. Right? So you're not playing the same team Jeremy: Yeah, but Chuck Atkinson: twice and things like that, so T w so when they when they create the schedules year over year, is it's not the same sixteen or seventeen games, right? Jeremy: No, the schedule's kind of more favorable for the loser teams, but like Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Jeremy: say in the NHL in the NHL or baseball, there's always like, for instance, did did anybody think the Jays were gonna miss the playoffs after going to the World Series last year? Not many people. They're not there. There's Chuck Atkinson: Not many. Jeremy: teams in the the Brewers are about to take out the Dodgers. Just Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, well that honestly that was I I don't wanna say I'm not gonna overstate it and say that was expected because a lot of people a and myself included were are probably maybe are cheering for the Dodgers, but probably a lot of people are cheering for the Brewers as well. And reason being is they wanna see the big you know, giant fall to a smaller market team. I get it. I Jeremy: Yeah, I'm going for the brewers, man. Chuck Atkinson: I get that. I'm cheering for the Dodgers on the other side. Not because I'm a huge Dodger fan, I'm a Jays fan. I do like watching the Dodgers because they're a great team to watch. But I'm also interested to see if they can three pee. That's sports history. Jeremy: That I'm I'm interested in seeing them not three Pete. That that's worth I Chuck Atkinson: so you're you're so so I get it. It all falls back to the X Factor going for his three Pete. For that thing right there, folks. He he's still holding that Jeremy: That's yeah. No. I always like to see the giant fall a little bit. I I like to see the you know, I don't I don't unless unless it's like the Habs trying to three Chuck Atkinson: see he wants to see the X Factor fall. Let's be real folks. Jeremy: peat, then of course I would want that. Or the Packers trying to three peat. But any other team Chuck Atkinson: No. Jeremy: There's not it's not I don't cheer for that. I cheer for the the f the fall of the like Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: it's when the Patriots were winning. It's like screw that. I don't want the Patriots to win every year. That's boring. That's Chuck Atkinson: Well Jeremy: boring. Chuck Atkinson: well, listen, I get it from I get it from your side. I'm not listen, Jeremy: Yankees winner rear. But Chuck Atkinson: I'm not saying I want to see the Patriots at that time win it as they were every second or third year. no. If you're winning it in consecutive years, it c it does become a point where, you know what, that's history. Sure you might want to see the big giant fall, but guess what? You're seeing history being made. with back to backs, three peats, four peats, things that will hardly ever, ever happen because of how many teams there are in sports nowadays in each league. so I mean if I can get the Dodgers to three peat, that'd be great. As long as it wasn't at the Jays' expense. I do have a Jeremy: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: I do have a defined line. If it's at the Jays' expense and I do not want it. However Doesn't matter who it is this year. I'm going for the Dodgers. But yeah, the Brewers are playing some great ball though. They're what I mean they they had the best record in baseball all season. Not the Dodgers and their high spending Jeremy: Yeah, no, the Brews are playing great. Chuck Atkinson: team. It was the Brewers. So we'll we'll see. We'll see what happens and I know the Tampa Bay Rays and Guardians are playing tonight. Cleveland started off that series with big win last night in Tampa and yeah, we'll see how Tampa Bay does. But I I think it's gonna be a Cleveland and by the looks of it, unfortunately Milwaukee finals, fingers crossed that the Dodgers can come back from an O two hole and we'll see what happens. But Yeah, so on back to football for a quick hop there. Chargers suck, Packer doing great, going for the first pick overall, you're going for potentially a playoff run. on the flip side, X Factor are Hanging in there at six and four in the fantasy football league, tied for second place in the division. And Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: the fleas, like we said earlier, just hanging out under the Mendoza line, looking to get back up there at five hundred this week. with a solid weekend with the walker back in the lineup. anybody on a bye week for you this week, Jar? Jeremy: yeah, I had Walker on a bye week. going into going into week six. Chuck Atkinson: No, no, going into week six. Yeah. Jeremy: Yeah, this week is No, actually no no I'm pretty good. No, Chuck Atkinson: Hopefully not Jacoby. You're solid, yeah? Jeremy: I'm good. I'm solid. Actually weird. Oddly enough, I got nobody on my team on a bye week. Chuck Atkinson: Who do we have for do we know who the buys are? I think it's what since Cincinnati Jeremy: I need some I need to Chuck Atkinson: Miami's one of the teams on a bye, I believe as well. And shoot. Let's just take a quick hop here folks and see what's going on. Jeremy: I'm still gonna be in a predicament starting Austin Eckler. Chuck Atkinson: Okay, yeah. Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami, and Minnesota are all on bye weeks this week. So and the Forty Niners, we draw the Commanders on Monday night football. So good luck to whoever's playing me this week. Jeremy: I got so many we need a friggin I R Chuck Atkinson: Who d who do the Colts have? The Colts we get the Colts are the Titans. I'm not man. This is a no mercy weekend. The 49ers get the Commander's at Jeremy: No mercy we can Chuck Atkinson: home on Monday night football with an extra day's rest from McCaffrey and Purdy and the boys. And the Colts are at home against the Own Five Titans. Jerry. buddy. Looking at eight and four, buddy. Looking at looking at eight and four. And then let's throw let's just throw in a Brock Bowers on the side there. See what he see what he the Raiders are are putting out. The Bills. Alright, so the Bills, the Bills Jeremy: I'm in a slight pickle. I got Chuck Atkinson: are in Vegas. So if if anything, it doesn't really matter if the the Raiders win. I'm a Chargers fan. What do you think I'm gonna share for the Raiders? just high scoring loss by the Raiders. Just so the Chargers can stay that c that much closer to third place. Jeremy: Yeah. Well, Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: looks like I'm gonna be I still have Jadarian Price is gonna look gonna be out long longer term than I think. He's on the IR Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, about that, Jeremy: s saying week eight. So now I've got Caleb Johnson or Austin Eckler having to start alongside Kenneth Walker. 'Cause Dowdle 'cause Dowdle's hurt Chuck Atkinson: This is where my this is where the X Factor's phone Jeremy: too. Chuck Atkinson: This is where the X Factor's phone should be ringing with a trade offer because I I I listen I i you create Jeremy: No last time the X Factor told me to pick up somebody, the guy got zero points. As if I'm listening to the X Factor for anything. Chuck Atkinson: your own desperation okay you create your own desperation with how Jeremy: How? They all got injured. I didn't know they were getting injured. Chuck Atkinson: Well, by paying attention to your team, by drafting better, by free agents getting free agents better. Then you don't come asking me, What should I do? but you'll you'll get back this week. Jeremy: I just Chuck Atkinson: You'll get back this week, hopefully. Jeremy: Well No, well it's not looking good because C D Lamb's hurt. So if I got C D Lamb and no running b like it's a problem. He he's questionable. He's like likely gonna play. Chuck Atkinson: Don't tell me. Don't tell me. Tell our viewers. Talk to our viewers. Tell our viewers what you're dealing with. Jeremy: That's what I'm dealing with. That's what I'm dealing with, viewers. We got CD Lamb hopping around. Chuck Atkinson: Yep. Jeremy: It's a g i when your team relies on twenty to thirty points out of a guy and he gets you one, it changes the outlook. But I'm not throwing any towels or waving eight white flags. I'm just telling you right now. Chuck Atkinson: So what we're hearing, folks, is a possible 0-2 weekend for the fleas, regardless if Walker makes it back this week with the Chiefs or not, who are playing the Chargers. So we should theoretically have a great game Jeremy: Well this is a this is Chuck Atkinson: because he's playing the Chargers and we're gonna go 0-7, because I did predict that we were gonna go 0-8, not that long ago. And actually I did that after week two, I believe. Jeremy: Yeah, wa wa Walker is playing the Charger. So if he can just put up forty points, that should make up for my other guy not having anything. Chuck Atkinson: The man relies on forty from Walker a week and thirty from Jeremy: Just saying. Chuck Atkinson: CD Lamb a week to win his games. And this is the year of the flea of the fleas. Alright. Jeremy: Well, if it w if it wasn't for injuries, you should look at my team, I got one, two, three, four, five, five Xs on my team right Chuck Atkinson: Well well Jeremy: now. Chuck Atkinson: Well like I said there's not much on the waiver wire. That's why there should be some trade offers Jeremy: My th my third option, Rico Dowdle, is hurt too. So Chuck Atkinson: There you gotta throw some trade options out there, maybe get some bites, you know. Jeremy: No problem. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: there's somebody out there that has Zach Charbonnet. He's gonna be aging like a fantastic wine when he comes back here in a week and takes over Jeremy: Zach Carbonet. Chuck Atkinson: the lead back for the Seahawks. and then they'll stop this nonsense of this music game of musical chairs they have going on there with Wilson, Hollinger, whoever this cat is, Price who's on IR. But hey, I mean the X Jeremy: Whatever. Chuck Atkinson: Factor we have we have RBs to spare, buddy. We have RBs to spare. Jeremy: So so that being said, what's going on with the X Factor on Ice? Chuck Atkinson: well well, thank you very much for acting asking. we're gonna transition to a fantasy Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: hockey team. my first season in fantasy hockey. Not too bad. Started out one and two after week one. what if we just finished week three or week two, did we? Or are we in week two or week three now? I can't tell. I don't think I did that well last week. Jeremy: We're in week we're in week three now, yeah. We're in week three now, right? No we're in You well, your overall record is now two and four. Chuck Atkinson: Okay, two and four. So we're we've gone through two weeks, Jeremy: Two and four. Chuck Atkinson: so we're in week three. we play three games a week, in a twelve team league. Jeremy: There's only one team that hasn't won a game yet, and that's the the Bussy Whipped team. Chuck Atkinson: The the bussy whipped. He is so busy whipped right now, it's not even funny. Jeremy: O and six. Chuck Atkinson: My man is a newly newly married man and he is definitely bussy whipped. And his record of 0 6 is showing that he's paying a rent paying attention to the wrong thing right now. Should be paying attention to sports, hockey, fancy hockey. The Maple Leafs. Jeremy: Yeah, so anyway, I'm sure that'll get going. Yeah. The money that's beautiful. Chuck Atkinson: His wife is a big Habs fan, and well I d I don't wanna I won't name names, I won't put her name out there on on podcast Jeremy: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: land. we don't want any bad ma fan mail for her. But th I I guess it'd be directed at you, Jer, because Jeremy: Well why you'd only get you'd only get Chuck Atkinson: it'd be directed at you too because you're a Habs fan, that's right. So she's a Habs fan. Jeremy: You'd only get great mail if you're a Habs fan. From Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: you know, people are they they were they love fellow Habs fans. Chuck Atkinson: See I'd rather get no mail. I'd rather get no mail as a Red Wing fan. Jeremy: But yeah, so you're you're two and four. Chuck Atkinson: Two and four. Jeremy: I'm also two and four in that league at the moment. But I could be better, it's just injuries again. And that's why I'm gonna blame it on injuries. Yeah. I mean Demidoff hurt in game three. Chuck Atkinson: Injuries? Injuries are biting the fleas. That's the story. That's the story. It's it's laid out there. Mhm. Jeremy: Rasmus Dallin, one of the, you know, premier defensemen in the NHL, gets injured the first game of the week this week. Gets eight and a half points Chuck Atkinson: How long is the report? Jeremy: in the f he's out for a while. Well, hopefully not too long, but he's out till at least the fifteenth. So he's probably gonna miss most of this week. Chuck Atkinson: well. Jeremy: So Chuck Atkinson: Your season's not lost by a defenseman going down for one week. Jeremy: No, but it keeps losing my week. Like last week friggin' I had other other injuries. Guys went down. Chuck Atkinson: just it's I'd rather it happen to your team, not not I'm not just saying that as a a competitor. I'm just saying if it were me on my team and this was happening, I'd prefer it to happen this early in the season rather than potentially in Yeah, March and April when the fantasy Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: playoffs are winding down and you're trying or the fantasy season's winding down you're trying to make the playoffs. So get those Jeremy: Yeah, for sure. Chuck Atkinson: get those small ticky tack injuries out of the way, so they don't affect you down the Jeremy: As long as they're not developing to nagging injuries all year long that they're the start of something problematic. Chuck Atkinson: That's that's true, that's true. Yeah. No, that that's true. So yeah, no, we're both two and four. Jeremy: Yeah, so Chuck Atkinson: I I don't like I don't mind my team. It's a solid team. get a lot of Colorado Avalanche players on there, so I just thought I'd go with a high scoring team, see how that goes for my first go around and yeah. We'll we'll see how it goes. Like I said, just I'm in I'm in it for fun, a good time this year. I don't take it as seriously as football. We'll see. I'm definitely not gonna load my team up with Red Wing players. That'd just be Jeremy: Ha ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: I'd be going to Charger Land. I'd be and six at this point. So Jeremy: Yeah. No, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, so other than that, you know we got the NHL gone to go. the Habs are trying to get back to five hundred themselves. What are they they at two, three, and one right now or two and three, Jerry? Jeremy: They're two, two and one. Chuck Atkinson: Two, two, and one. Two two and one. And they're playing tonight. Jeremy: Yep, they're playing tonight. Last I checked there winning two to one. Chuck Atkinson: All right. And who th who's on the schedule tonight again? Jeremy: they're playing Buffalo. Chuck Atkinson: Buffalo. Alright. so yeah, just to let folks know today is October the thirteenth. Tuesday, October the thirteenth. So when you guys might be tuning into listening to us hearing these games that we're talking about on the schedule tonight, they've already happened. Jeremy: Yeah, yeah. Normally we're normally we're on on Mondays, but that's why we were able to talk about Monday night football because it is Tuesday. So but yeah, Chuck Atkinson: That's right. Jeremy: no, there's a hockey game going on right now. Gonna have to go check out the rest of that. But yeah, no, I had it's been hockey's been pretty fun so far. The habs are l I feel like we're about to start start getting getting rollin'. So that's exciting. Chuck Atkinson: Well, the goaltender situation what's up with their goalie situation there, if you don't mind me asking. Fe f fe fe feed us in on that what's going on with Montreal and their goaltending right now, 'cause last time I checked out Jeremy: Well the situation is the situation is this. Dobish got the first three starts of the year. He played terrible in two of them. so then we brought then the well Montenbeau was scheduled to start the the fourth game, the next game, but he got he got hurt in practice, had limp off and he hasn't been back. He hurt himself significantly, I guess. Hurt his knee it looks like. So he's out for a bit. Well, may when I say significantly, he might be out for like, you know, four to six weeks. And it's been a couple Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: of weeks. So like he's not out the whole season or nothing, I don't think. But it was bad enough that he couldn't start that night and he's out he's out for a few weeks. So then they called up Fowler. Fowler came in and played quite well. And lost and then but but played well and then he came in again. We we won in overtime against you guys. He had a great game against you guys, stopped thirty shots, won in overtime, had a shutout. And Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: then everybody thought they might go back to Dobush tonight and they went to Fowler again tonight. So Fowler just got his third start in a row and they're winning two to one. So Fowler has looked really good. And he's supposed to be ever like he's really the guy that's the the they they compared him to Price and Brodeur. Like, this is the guy Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: that's supposed to be our number one goalie. But Chuck Atkinson: So Jeremy: Dobish was fantastic last year, and Dobish earned himself a three. He's got a three year deal. Like he he's he he was gonna be our starter this year. And may still be, Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: but it looks like they're gonna have to make a move with Montembo when he comes back in a week or two. So because they said already at the beginning of the season they don't want to go with three goaltender system again, and Fowler definitely. Chuck Atkinson: It doesn't make any sense. Jeremy: Fowler definitely deserves to be in the NHL right now. So I don't think you're gonna see him go down again, although he could and he has a two way deal. So Chuck Atkinson: I guess what it I guess it boils down to so with these two way deals Correct me if I'm wrong. you have so many as an organization you have so many times that you can send down and call up a player throughout the year, is that correct? Do you know? Jeremy: yeah, depending on the player's contract and stuff. So but like Fowler's contract currently states I think that he can I think they can I don't think there's any amount of times. I think he can he's he's right now he hasn't signed his first big deal yet. He's still on the deal where he can travel back and forth between Montreal and Laval. And because Laval is in Montreal, they can often send him there to play a few games and then grab him back on a home when they're home and It's an easy transition. So to keep him playing, they don't want him they don't want him sitting around. So if he's Chuck Atkinson: No, no, definitely it's Jeremy: not gonna be a third goalie, so Montembeau, I think I think they're gonna make a deal. I think you're gonna see Montembeau get traded. Or maybe the the big deal and it's dopish. Because but me personally, I like Dobush and Fowler as a goaltending tandem, and it could be our tandem for the next three to four years, and it would be super solid. So I don't think Montreal's intentions is to do anything with both of those, but Montabeau is probably going to get moved. Chuck Atkinson: I've always been a proponent of if you have two of something, that means you don't have one of anything. and that goes for sports, when it comes to startings, starting jobs, whether you're a a running back, a quarterback, Jeremy: Well in it Chuck Atkinson: a a goaltender. it's nice to have it's nice to have two Jeremy: But in the new wave of hockey goaltending Chuck Atkinson: quality players, but you ideally you have to feel one way or another about one of them. You can't have the same feeling about both Jeremy: You Chuck Atkinson: of them. It's like having a girlfriend. You can't have two of them. You have to have one or Jeremy: Well Chuck Atkinson: the other. And you know that you know, that's the one you gotta move forward with and the and give the confidence and Jeremy: But in hockey nowadays, there the goalies don't start seventy games anymore, sixty five games. It's more of a it's it's a fifty thirty five, fifty thirty four split or a fi like it's a closer split. So Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: if you can if you can manage to maintain two starting goalies on your team, one's gonna play thirty five games, the other plays forty nine, like or whatever. Chuck Atkinson: Honestly though, that doesn't do anything for anybody and that's just my feeling on that on and that's my take on on the split timeshare goaling situation. If you if you're if you're running fifty fifty, Jeremy: Yeah, but I'm just telling ya the goalies don't they don't Chuck Atkinson: that means you don't trust either one of them to be your number one guy. Jeremy: No, it's just how it goes. There's very few goalies to play if you look at it now. Very, very few goalies to play more than sixty games. Chuck Atkinson: Well and and that goes back to quality of player though. That goes back it doesn't mean they're each team is is goes that way because that's the way it is. A lot of teams are probably going that way because that's what they have. That no that's just what they have. Jeremy: Well, because of money. The because of money. They don't want to pay the goal they don't want to pay the goalie of the big one. So but and you also can't have two you can't have two high paid high priced goalies on your team. Chuck Atkinson: Well, no, that's not true at all. That's not true at all. You look at you look at the Rangers goalie, he got paid. you look price when in and his prime got paid. The goalie is like to start Jeremy: It was Chuck Atkinson: goaltenders, if you're good, you're gonna get paid. A long term deal. You're you're you're just gonna. It's just Well, that was because of that was because of injury. That was because of injury. It wasn't because of his play. He Jeremy: Yeah, but p as much as I love price, that big contract wasn't great for us for you know, it was hard to put a better team together. So Well no, but it also handcuffs you from being able to put a better team on the the the ice. If your goalie takes up a f fifth of your salary Chuck Atkinson: Well look at the s yeah, but look at the size look at the size of the contracts that these guys are getting nowadays and if you can't Jeremy: Well now Chuck Atkinson: make an investment of XYZ for eight years Jeremy: No, okay. But what's your suggestion for the Canadians? You mean so we're arguing over something but I don't know what it Chuck Atkinson: well if you can afford to pay if you can Jeremy: is. Chuck Atkinson: if you can afford to pay Marchenko or w is that this kid's name is he picked up? Nothing against the guy. Jeremy: We can do that and keep them both. Chuck Atkinson: You you just gave the guy twelve point what five or twelve seven five for long term and you can't pay a gold Jeremy: Who? Dovish? Chuck Atkinson: tender for eight years, five years? Jeremy: Who'd we give long term? We don't have Marchenko. The least do. Chuck Atkinson: No no no the guy who you traded for from was it Columbus? Not no no never mind. that's Toronto's mistake, that's right. That's Toronto. My apologies, my apologies, my apologies. Jeremy: Yeah, Toronto paid him twelve and a half million. We didn't. We didn't get Marychenko. Chuck Atkinson: That's on me, folks, that's on me. Jar's a hockey man. I'm not so much. And there it goes. Jeremy: We however we're we're we're trying to get your Dylan Larkin, I think. The Chuck Atkinson: Hey. Jeremy: fans were cheering him on, man. The fans want him. We want Larkin. I'm like, no, keep the mega guy down south. Chuck Atkinson: Give Here, hey, this is me giving him to you. I I'll give you a bag of pu y we just want a bag of pucks in return. We want a Chris Draper deal. Just give us draper a draper in return, a bag of pucks. Jeremy: Man. But I won't lie. I won't lie. We do need a second line center. And that if you had Suzuki and Larkin as your two centers, I think we're looking pretty good. I think we're looking pretty good. I know Chuck Atkinson: How about How about It's just gonna cost you. Jeremy: we're I know the Red Wing. Well, it's gonna cost us like eight point seven million. He's got like three years left on his deal. He still he yeah, yeah. He fits right in. Chuck Atkinson: No no no no. I'm I'm not talking that way. I'm not talking money. I'm not talking mucho dinero. I'm talking about draft pick and player capital. It's gonna cost you. We're not giving them away. Are you kidding me? Jeremy: no, you'll get you guys will get a great tr you guys will get a great pick. You'll get Michael Hage or Zorofsky, one of the two of those guys. And no other I don't nobody wants us to trade either one of them. In fact, I'm more leaning in the corner of not making that move and keeping those two guys. I don't I'd rather not especially for Larkin. If it was Crosby on the other hand, even though Crosby's only got Chuck Atkinson: Funny, I just heard Jeremy: like two years left in his y career, I'd still take that over Larkin just to s ha see the Chuck Atkinson: Well, so would I. Jeremy: magic of Crosby in Montreal for two years would be fucking I mean Absolutely really fun. Chuck Atkinson: This is how bad he wants Crosby folks. He's been dreaming to this day for 17 years. Ever since Crosby came into the league, all he's been dreaming about was a C on his chest. That's it. He he's ignored what he's done for Jeremy: man. Come on, Sydney. Chuck Atkinson: the Penguins over the last 20 years. He's just been envisioning a sea. Jeremy: Sydney, come to Montreal for two years. The magic. It will be amazing. It's closer to home. You love the abs. Chuck Atkinson: It's closer to home. It's closer to home, he says. Jeremy: Like, that's like we're if if you man, Crosby, Demidoff playing the same line. Yeah. Yeah. That's like having a really young Malkin back. It'd be like getting your sidekick back. But Chuck Atkinson: Uh-huh. Jeremy: at twenty one. Chuck Atkinson: No, I can get you a DeLorean too, but you know, it's just never gonna happen. Jeremy: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: All right there, Doc Brown. Jeremy: Well, we'll see. We'll see. Chuck Atkinson: see where's the plutonium? You hide it where's the plutonium? Jeremy: So what else? you got anything much else to talk about? We're I do have one other thing I'd like to get off have a little discussion, but Chuck Atkinson: No, you know what, I think we did pretty good. we touched on how crappy the Red Wings were still doing. we touched on they the Habs are l trying to turn the corner with a goalie situation. Their offense isn't gonna be a problem. Packers are back up on the upswing. They they put an ass kicking out there on the Bears. Good on them for doing it. the Chargers are still s stuck in Suckville. population 52. Actually you include Jeremy: Yep. Chuck Atkinson: the coaching staff on that plus fifty-two or fifty-three man roster. And yeah, baseball playoffs are on to go. They're doing great. fun to watch as always. Tampa and Cleveland's on the on the game tonight. Jar. we're gonna bounce back to hockey Jeremy: I just Chuck Atkinson: for a second. You know, we were talking about the habs and everything that's going on there. tell me, you have something you wanna get off your chest? The floor is yours. Jeremy: Well, there's just something that's been kinda ticking me off for a while. Like this Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: it it happened again the other night. Like, as you know, that Canadians played in a hockey game where they had three goals called back in the same game. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: one of them was for an offside, which was an offside. One of them was for goaltender interference. I guess it was goaltender interference. The other one, they called it a goal on the ice, they couldn't prove it went in, nor they could they prove it didn't go in, but then they reversed it. So Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: Whatever, that's how that all happened. But it it just made me think again about something that really is pissed me off is this this offside. And and I've talked about it with my father. I've had chats about this with with a few people and and we tend to think the same think the same thing. But basically what I'm saying here is I don't think the linesmen are actually calling offsides really anymore if they're if they're Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: close. Because What have like they're not gonna go out on the limb and be like they're gonna blow their whistle on something really close that they saw that goes offside. They're gonna just let it go. And if it goes in, they're just gonna wait and have the replay done. So it could be a minute and a half later. We've got to rewind the clock and the guy is a millimeter offside, which really we all Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy: know has zero bearing in whether that was a goal or not, because it was so close. There's like we're talking millisecond. Like, Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: but yep, it was a blade. A blade offside or half a blade offside, and if you really get down to it. Or even slightly more. Enough that the linesmen would see it, but I think they just don't call it. I think I think I think they just don't want to be involved in the controversy anymore. Whereas the linesmen should just call off sides as they see them. Sometimes you make a mistake, sometimes you don't. But the play stops. And there's no harm, no foul. But you know what Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: happens when a You go over the line and you spend a minute and a half in the offensive zone, you score a goal, and Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: then all all then you have to wait three minutes for them to look at it and call it back. Like that really changes the momentum of a hockey game and it's kind of bullshit, really. Like it's if if it was that close, it it it's fine. It didn't have a bearing on whether or not the puck actually you know, if a guy's two feet offside, well and he got an advantage. But if he's escape late offside, did he really get an advantage? Is it worth rewinding the game a minute and a half? What do you think? Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Replays there for a reason nowadays. I get why I get Jeremy: But I I I I like it. Chuck Atkinson: I get why they let the play continue. It's if you see if you if you if if Jeremy: But the linesmen have zero balls. Linesmen have no balls anymore. That's what it comes down to. They won't call it on the ice, they don't call the play. Chuck Atkinson: not every goal not every goal s I I know that not every goal is reviewed that comes a comes into the zone. Okay, we can both agree on that. Not every goal is reviewed. Jeremy: They don't call Right, which is why they don't call it. They just let it go, because it makes no it didn't hurt the game if if it didn't score. But then if they score Chuck Atkinson: No no. But but what I'm saying is Jeremy: it, we have to rewind it. Chuck Atkinson: but what I'm saying is though, not every goal is So when I when we cross the zone, obvious play, not reviewed. We agree, right? Maybe it was offside, maybe not. Do I blow the whistle? Do I not? I'll tell you why they don't blow the whistle. It's because they don't want to ruin the game flow over a mistake that the referee Jeremy: Right. Chuck Atkinson: might have made by blowing the whistle incorrectly. So if the referee's wrong Jeremy: Right, but the game flow is ruined if a goal ha if a goal happens then the then then the game flow is completely ruined. Bl stop the game there. Chuck Atkinson: No no th but this is what I'm saying though. If so if they if they If a if you feel that it's not offside, you're not blowing the whistle. And the play continues and the goal gets scored. And the goal gets scored. I don't think Jeremy: No, I'm saying if it's yeah, I'm feeling Chuck Atkinson: I don't think I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't think that Jeremy: They don't Chuck Atkinson: they're intentionally s allowing it to go. It's not the NFL where Jeremy: I would be willing to tell you I would be willing to say that if you counted how many times the linesman blow the whistle in a game Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: on the ice today and went back Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy: five years ago and seen how many times they blew the blew the whistle, I bet you it's half the amount of times. Like I I betcha if you look at actual whistles, they're not blowing it. They're getting paid to be on the ice to make the call. Chuck Atkinson: I would have to see I would have to honestly I honestly I'd have to see data on that. I don't know what there is out there other than just the other than just the other than just Jeremy: I don't know. I'm just making that up, but I'm just telling ya. Chuck Atkinson: yeah. But other than just the use of replay though. I don't know how Jeremy: Because they have it in their back pocket, they're not making the risky call. They're not making the controvers they're not making the call on the ice. Chuck Atkinson: But at the same time Jeremy: They're they're waiting for the play under review is what they're waiting for, buddy. Like Chuck Atkinson: I guess I guess I I I guess I'm seeing it from your side, I'm also seeing it from the other p the other side as well. Jeremy: 'Cause i I just don't I don't like it. I don't like when the game gets either w whether it's for my team or against it. Yeah, Chuck Atkinson: Maybe we're maybe we're agreeing and we don't even realize it. I don't know. Jeremy: but whether it's for my team or against it, it slows the game down. It's dumb. It slows the game down, it changes momentum when it doesn't have to. Like if i Chuck Atkinson: So are you for or against so I guess I'm just so are you against the referees not blowing the whistle Jeremy: No. Chuck Atkinson: and this letting it go if you if they feel it's not off side? Jeremy: I want the referees to blow the whistle if they think that's offside on the ice. I don't want them to go, Chuck Atkinson: Okay, so you think that Okay. Jeremy: well, that's close. I'm not going to blow it. I'll just wait and see if something happens. I don't want them to die. I don't want them to think that. I want them to be like, offside. That's my immediate thought. Cause it And I want it to be blown on the ice. That's how it was with. Chuck Atkinson: Right. I and but I I I listen. That that so so basically so basically what you're telling me our audience is that blindsmen are taking dives. They're not they're not they're they're not doing their job up to par. Jeremy: They're not calling it. No, because they have they they have they have the the the instant replay Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy: you know as a secondary backstop so they're not making the controversial call. And I think it's because Chuck Atkinson: Here's where I'm gonna disagree with you though. I'm gonna I'm just gonna stop you right there. I'm gonna disagree with you on this fact alone. Just like in every other sport, referees get graded on their performance during the game. How many calls do they miss? How many calls do they Jeremy: Yeah, and they should be graded on this. Chuck Atkinson: get right when you know when when replay would have maybe had to have been used and didn't have to get used because the Jeremy: Big Chuck Atkinson: referee did his job, you know, that you know, he saw an offside that was an offside, even though it might have been that close. I don't know. Jeremy: Every team in the NHL has a guy that just stares Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy: at the blue line. He's just waiting for that. So when the team calls, when the team Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy: says that's offside, probably nine times out of ten or more, it's gonna be it's gonna be overruled. It's it's it's offside. Because they literally have a guy sitting there on film watching to see if it's offside every time. And when it is, they call down to the bench. So the teams aren't gonna miss it at Chuck Atkinson: I'm not just I'm not disagreeing with ya. I'm just saying that I don't think that the referees are leaning one way over the other. Jeremy: all. Chuck Atkinson: I just don't think the referees are and linesmen are leaning one way over the other, saying we're gonna let it slide. no. Jeremy: I'm not saying they're trying to cheat. I'm just saying they don't they would rather be like they they would rather just let it go and have instant replay call it back than to stop the game. And to me, I'd rather have the game stop. Chuck Atkinson: I don't know, I don't know. If I'm a lines if I'm a linesman, if I'm a linesman though and I get burned, that's basically me as a linesman getting burned by not doing my job properly. So I don't think that's why that's why Jeremy: Yeah. Y yeah, so I'd be Chuck Atkinson: that's why I'm not saying and that and that's why I don't agree necessarily w I I understand the point. I just don't agree totally with what you're saying because it makes the linesman look poor and a they can it's just like they get promoted from the AHL, Jeremy: Yeah, it does. I'd also be Chuck Atkinson: they can get demoted as well. Right? So Jeremy: I'd be interested to know how many like how many of calls are reversed by each linesman. Like, has each guy got one or two or does Chuck Atkinson: I'm sure they have that data. I'm sure they have that data. Jeremy: or does or is there two or three linesmen that have missed twelve calls already this year and just have the like it's happened so much now and I ha it just I hate it. It just slows the game down so much. Chuck Atkinson: but there there there is I'm I'm sure the league takes care like a hundred percent know this that the league would have that data just as the NFL and other and the NBA and other sports, they monitor the umpires, referees, in in their leagues and they grade them. And so when we watch the Super Bowl in the playoffs every year in the NFL, for example, the referees that were watching, umpire and referee those games, those are guys who have been graded all year long. leading up to the playoffs and the guys with the highest grades are the ones going into the playoffs because they don't want the skid mark referees who are blowing pass Jeremy: yeah. Chuck Atkinson: interference calls for for obvious obvious not pass interference. You know what I mean? So that's what I like about the NFL's view of referees and and how they review them and and grade them. i you know they they look after their own, the the NFL does. so when we watch the playoffs, we're getting the best of the best that they have. Now are are they gonna miss calls? Yeah. It it's you know, we're we're it's human error. You know, I'd rather I'd rather have human error Jeremy: Well that's it. I understand they're gonna miss calls. I want them to actually make the call. Chuck Atkinson: I'd rather have human error happen every once in a while, than than strictly rely on replay to slow the game to a crawl Jeremy: Me too. Chuck Atkinson: and and just really bec make it become unwatchable. Jeremy: Same with like baseball and having the you know, same with baseball and just having like you know, i the robots pick up the strike zone and have no umpire. Like it's I like how umpires ha each have their own strike zones and stuff. As long as they stick to it and they Chuck Atkinson: Well. Jeremy: you know, you know no, well our stri umpires always had like they're all you know, this guy's just little bit he's got a low strike zone, he's got a high strike Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but y yeah, but that that that was back in the day though. That Jeremy: zone. Chuck Atkinson: but that was back in the day before we have a box now on T V, not just you know, replays, but for a long time. prior to instant replay and things like that, they've had they've had that square on the screen showing where the balls would go. And yeah, we would see, you know, a strike call that would miss the zone by a foot or something like that, or a couple of inches every once in a while. Human error. But Jeremy: Exactly. Chuck Atkinson: the fun thing about this though now, just gonna extend on this for a second. 'Cause we're talking about rules and referees and umps and all that. when I watch baseball, especially in the playoffs, it's exciting when you see a a challenge on a ball or a strike call. You know, the crowd gets jacked up, the place is stacked, you know, you hear the the crowd rumbling or booing, cheering or jeering in one way or the other. because when a guy goes like this, I'm challenging what the umpire says. Is it a ball or a strike? Jeremy: Mm. Chuck Atkinson: And we all watch the replay. No, misses a zone. That's not a strike. So then potentially Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: that helps a batter win the game. Or maybe he strikes out. Whatever the case is, it just adds to the entertainment factor and makes sure that you know the strike zone. They only have two they can only do it twice a game. If you miss twice, y if you get it right, if you get it right, you keep it and you can do it again. Until you lose them all, right? Until you lose until you lose your Jeremy: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. You can't slow the game down all day. Yeah. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: two. So that just means We're correcting the umpire's misses until you run out of challenges. Right? So I love that fact, it brings a little extra excitement in it. And when you see that hand go up in a playoff game in the eighth inning, ninth inning, like it did last night a couple times. was it a strike? you got burned, buddy. No, you got a bad eye. So sometimes Jeremy: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: it falls on the ump, sometimes it falls in the batter. Right? But no, it just adds to the it's just a new level of excitement to the game of baseball that it it really needed. you know, the pitch clock was a big help as well. But that's another deep dive into the world of baseball. We'll save for another day. Jeremy: A hundred percent. Chuck Atkinson: But yeah no, another great Jeremy: Carried on.
