- 0:06Speaker 1: My name is Paul Barrel. Welcome back in the tech path.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Let's get started. I do want to thank our sponsor,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and that is Tangent. If you guys are going the
- 0:12Speaker 1: direction of self custody and if you're in the blockchain
- 0:15Speaker 1: world and maybe you're a brand new to the idea
- 0:17Speaker 1: of crypto, well this is one of I think the
- 0:20Speaker 1: killer apps of crypto, and that is building a self
- 0:23Speaker 1: custody wallet. And you can do that very easily by
- 0:26Speaker 1: just jumping over to tangum dot com. Visit that now.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The way it works is that you can see there
- 0:30Speaker 1: on screen there's a little card, it's like a credit card.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This has a little NFC device in it. Very secure
- 0:35Speaker 1: and it works in conjunction with your phone. Whether you
- 0:38Speaker 1: have an Apple phone an Android, doesn't matter. Very easy
- 0:41Speaker 1: to set up, use our code down below. It does
- 0:43Speaker 1: help the channel and you guys can get started on
- 0:45Speaker 1: your self custody journey. All right, now, you guys know
- 0:48Speaker 1: everybody's been asking us in the comments, what's going on
- 0:52Speaker 1: with the whole situation around Polka dot and TikTok. Is
- 0:56Speaker 1: there a connecting tissue there? Today we're going to hope
- 0:59Speaker 1: to answer that. One of the things that we are
- 1:01Speaker 1: seeing though. This of course over on x iPhones with
- 1:04Speaker 1: TikTok being installed are now selling for up to a
- 1:07Speaker 1: million bucks, which is crazy because, as you know, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you go over to the Apple Store and try to
- 1:14Speaker 1: download TikTok right now, it's just not there. Now if
- 1:16Speaker 1: you have it on your phone and you can still
- 1:18Speaker 1: use the app, yes, but being able to get it.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It has been removed from the App Store obviously because
- 1:23Speaker 1: of the situation from the most recent Supreme Court scenario.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Now with that, President Trump has guaranteed us that he's
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to be able to save TikTok or get us
- 1:36Speaker 1: in a position, and he made some very interesting statements
- 1:39Speaker 1: the other night while signing an executive order. And I
- 1:42Speaker 1: want to go to a clip of this before I
- 1:44Speaker 1: bring in our guests to give you guys kind of
- 1:46Speaker 1: an insight of what's going on.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Take a look very long way ooh, look at that.
- 1:50Speaker 3: It says TikTok, I may not do the dealer, I
- 1:53Speaker 3: may do the deal. If I don't do the deal,
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's worthless. If I do the deal, it's worth maybe
- 1:57Speaker 3: a trillion dollars. A trillion. The US should be entitled
- 2:00Speaker 3: to get half of TikTok. We'll see what happens. I mean,
- 2:02Speaker 3: that's one of many ideas of it.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Did he say he's opens that idea? Who the CEO
- 2:09Speaker 4: of TikTok is around?
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh, I think you'd probably like it, and we have
- 2:13Speaker 3: ninety days to make that decision. It was so many
- 2:17Speaker 3: different products made in China and nobody ever complained about it.
- 2:19Speaker 3: The only one they complained about is TikTok.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Would be a private sector or it could be a lot.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Tell you what every rich person has called me about TikTok.
- 2:29Speaker 3: If China is going to get information about young kids
- 2:31Speaker 3: out of it, to be honest with I think we
- 2:33Speaker 3: have bigger problems than that, all.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Right, So as you can tell, that totally confused me.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Even when it happened. I was watching it live that night.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And it's really kind of put a position around TikTok
- 2:45Speaker 1: in general that everybody's starting to ask. And the reason
- 2:47Speaker 1: is because it could be very relevant to what's happening
- 2:51Speaker 1: in crypto. So we wanted to bring someone on to
- 2:53Speaker 1: really dive into that, and with me today is Jeffrey Odell,
- 2:56Speaker 1: who is the chairman and CEO over at me Week.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Great to have you, Jeffrey, Thank you, Paul, pleasure to
- 3:01Speaker 4: be on the show.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Excellent. So Jeffery, first of all, for some of our audience,
- 3:05Speaker 1: if you followed us for a little while, you've probably
- 3:07Speaker 1: seen some of our clips with Jeffrey on them talking
- 3:09Speaker 1: to Jean Wu over at Avalanche. Give us a rundown
- 3:13Speaker 1: of what me we is doing right now. What's the
- 3:15Speaker 1: current state of your business? How do you guys operate?
- 3:19Speaker 4: Sure, So, we're a little bit different than normal social
- 3:22Speaker 4: med me we is a social media platform and it
- 3:26Speaker 4: was formed years ago in the web two world as
- 3:29Speaker 4: sort of an offshoot to those who are uncomfortable with
- 3:32Speaker 4: or did not like the concept that Facebook was doing
- 3:36Speaker 4: where they utilize feeds and algorithms and basically usurp your
- 3:42Speaker 4: feeds on social platforms. We believe in privacy, We believe
- 3:48Speaker 4: in user control and things that blockchain and decentralization didn't
- 3:53Speaker 4: exist years ago. They exist now, and so we want
- 3:57Speaker 4: to double down on the concept of privacy and allowing
- 4:00Speaker 4: users to have their own data and information. We don't
- 4:04Speaker 4: feel as though big tech should centralize that and leverage
- 4:07Speaker 4: it for the benefit of their own advertising dollars. So
- 4:11Speaker 4: me we as a platform. Today, we're in two hundred countries,
- 4:15Speaker 4: our territories and countries. We're in twenty languages, we're roughly
- 4:20Speaker 4: fifty percent US fifty percent all over the world, and
- 4:24Speaker 4: we are now part of something called Project Liberty. So
- 4:28Speaker 4: we're in the process at this point in time of
- 4:31Speaker 4: moving a Web two app into a Web three world,
- 4:35Speaker 4: decentralizing and allowing users to own and control their own
- 4:38Speaker 4: data and information and actually make money off of that.
- 4:42Speaker 1: All right, So you hit on a few things there
- 4:44Speaker 1: that I want to touch on. One is the history
- 4:47Speaker 1: of social media. You had mentioned, you know, pre Show
- 4:50Speaker 1: your involvement with MySpace, was it, Yes, So when you
- 4:55Speaker 1: look at the evolution of social if you go back
- 4:57Speaker 1: to pre Facebook in a things like Friendster, et cetera, MySpace,
- 5:02Speaker 1: the evolution that we've seen here with what Zuckerberg has
- 5:05Speaker 1: been building around both Instagram once they did that acquisition
- 5:08Speaker 1: and where they are, do you think this is kind
- 5:10Speaker 1: of a natural progression for users to actually be in
- 5:13Speaker 1: control of it or do you feel like maybe it's
- 5:16Speaker 1: just going to be a more advanced algorithm that's going
- 5:18Speaker 1: to make the users feel like they're in control.
- 5:22Speaker 4: That's a great question. Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and
- 5:27Speaker 4: these other players that exist out there. Their model, their
- 5:32Speaker 4: business model is so based on advertising. For them to
- 5:35Speaker 4: truly decentralize and allow users to own and control their
- 5:39Speaker 4: own data would cannibalize their business model. They'd lose billions
- 5:44Speaker 4: of dollars. We never sold ads on platform. We were
- 5:49Speaker 4: always either subscription based or freemium in a way. So
- 5:53Speaker 4: it was a logical evolution for us to move over
- 5:56Speaker 4: to this type of an environment. So we think we
- 5:59Speaker 4: have a big head start. We've been part of Project
- 6:03Speaker 4: Liberty now, which is Frank McCort's project, for about two
- 6:07Speaker 4: and a half years, and in Project Liberty, the whole
- 6:10Speaker 4: point of that is a movement a technology for full decentralization,
- 6:16Speaker 4: if you will. So we think that we're much more positioned.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Players like Lenz and Forcaster, they came on board and
- 6:24Speaker 4: started with virtually nothing, build huge valuations in their companies
- 6:29Speaker 4: and so forth, but they don't have the user base.
- 6:31Speaker 4: When you broadcast data, information or something out there, it
- 6:36Speaker 4: goes out into an echo chamber or ozone and things
- 6:39Speaker 4: don't happen. We have twenty one million users on our
- 6:42Speaker 4: platform and we've already migrated about a million and a half,
- 6:46Speaker 4: a little over a million and a half of those
- 6:47Speaker 4: users into blockchain that are active users today. So we
- 6:51Speaker 4: are far and away larger than all social platforms, even
- 6:55Speaker 4: if you combine them. I started my social world war.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I was the chairman of a company called Intermix Media,
- 7:03Speaker 4: which was the parent company with Tom and Crystal Wolf
- 7:06Speaker 4: and those that founded MySpace. And at that point in time,
- 7:10Speaker 4: people loved MySpace. It was meaningful connections, finding your groups,
- 7:15Speaker 4: finding your people. Mew as a group based social platform.
- 7:19Speaker 4: We have close to six hundred thousand, seven hundred thousand
- 7:23Speaker 4: groups that are out there right now on me wei
- 7:26Speaker 4: or more, and we're trying to bring social back to
- 7:29Speaker 4: the way it was like in the days of MySpace.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And that's kind of why I got back in twenty
- 7:34Speaker 4: years later to come back into this world, seeing what
- 7:38Speaker 4: was happening in blockchain decentralization and partnering with Frank McCort's
- 7:42Speaker 4: project Liberty, because I thought we could bring this to
- 7:44Speaker 4: users in a much better way than the way it's
- 7:47Speaker 4: being done now.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Social So you hit on groups for a minute, because
- 7:50Speaker 1: I was looking at me we and trying to understand
- 7:52Speaker 1: how that model has grown so much in the Web
- 7:54Speaker 1: two phase, and then you hit on the more Web
- 7:58Speaker 1: three native concepts. To your point with Lenz and Farcaster,
- 8:01Speaker 1: both of which we've reported on and had them on
- 8:03Speaker 1: the shows. There's two things there. One is, when you
- 8:07Speaker 1: get into a Web three native you're right, the audience
- 8:10Speaker 1: doesn't seem to grow very quickly. It maybe exclude what's
- 8:13Speaker 1: happening on Arena because of their connection to Twitter. But
- 8:16Speaker 1: if you look at what you guys are doing, a
- 8:18Speaker 1: true Web two platform but more group oriented, do you
- 8:22Speaker 1: think that the future of social especially around decentralized social
- 8:26Speaker 1: will be more tribal, more of these groups and very
- 8:31Speaker 1: narrow niches or will we ever see another TikTok like
- 8:35Speaker 1: social media platform in Web three.
- 8:40Speaker 4: No, I think you could see a TikTok type platform,
- 8:42Speaker 4: and we're probably get into a couple questions about that
- 8:45Speaker 4: as well, because we will talk about how we're the
- 8:48Speaker 4: best house of the best location for TikTok if it
- 8:51Speaker 4: is sold. But yes, we believe group base is the
- 8:56Speaker 4: way to go. We think that's the superpower of me
- 8:58Speaker 4: we it. We also believe look in the normal social world,
- 9:03Speaker 4: you're paying influencers to go out there, and it's a
- 9:06Speaker 4: very I don't think it's very genuine because people know
- 9:09Speaker 4: they're getting paid to go ahead and do something to
- 9:12Speaker 4: promote a particular network. And in our world, if you
- 9:16Speaker 4: say there's seven eight hundred thousand groups out there, each
- 9:21Speaker 4: influencer who runs each group is like a mini influencer,
- 9:25Speaker 4: or each group leader is like a mini influencer, and
- 9:28Speaker 4: to help them grow their groups is a much better way,
- 9:33Speaker 4: we think, versus trying to pay Paul Barron to help
- 9:37Speaker 4: promote us or something like that, you know what I mean.
- 9:40Speaker 4: We think that's a way to go, much better way
- 9:42Speaker 4: to go because it's kind of organic in that. So yes,
- 9:46Speaker 4: and one of the things we're trying to do is
- 9:49Speaker 4: by me, we and we'll get into this at some point,
- 9:51Speaker 4: I believe too. By us launching our own l one,
- 9:55Speaker 4: being our own social platform on chain, and eventually having
- 9:59Speaker 4: our own coin if you will, our own token, we're
- 10:03Speaker 4: going to be able to reward people internally for their
- 10:06Speaker 4: activity for good behavior are The way we're set up,
- 10:11Speaker 4: which is very interesting through Project Liberty, is that you're
- 10:15Speaker 4: validated as a real user. That's something very different that's
- 10:19Speaker 4: out there in the social world today. So you're not
- 10:22Speaker 4: going to find a bunch of fake accounts on mewi,
- 10:26Speaker 4: you're validated as a real user. Your social graph, you're
- 10:30Speaker 4: who you follow and who follows you is also on chain.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And as opposed to us controlling your social graph, Paul
- 10:38Speaker 4: Barron is going to control his own social graph. And
- 10:41Speaker 4: then as we add other apps, and there's a number
- 10:44Speaker 4: of apps that have been added that will go live
- 10:46Speaker 4: in the next couple months, you'll be then interoperable. So,
- 10:51Speaker 4: going back to your initial question about groups, these other
- 10:54Speaker 4: apps are going to be able to leverage the groups
- 10:56Speaker 4: that exist on mewi for their benefit as well well.
- 11:00Speaker 4: So we're going to be an open source platform where
- 11:03Speaker 4: we're going to avail ourselves of say, if a TikTok
- 11:05Speaker 4: came on board, we can invite them onto me to
- 11:10Speaker 4: be the social side of TikTok, and yet TikTok would
- 11:13Speaker 4: have us there as well.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Interesting, all right, So you mentioned that one. We'll talk
- 11:17Speaker 1: about that in a second, because that's leaning a little
- 11:19Speaker 1: bit more toward the Avalanche connection, and that is some
- 11:23Speaker 1: of the things that I wanted to clear up in
- 11:24Speaker 1: this interview because I'm a little confused on that. So
- 11:27Speaker 1: but before we leap to that, I want to go
- 11:29Speaker 1: to a couple more clips here. This first clip is
- 11:32Speaker 1: Kevin O'Leary talking about some changes that need to happen,
- 11:36Speaker 1: mainly because of what recently happened with the situation on
- 11:39Speaker 1: the TikTok scenario. So take a look.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I learned about this golden share thing last night. Now,
- 11:46Speaker 5: whoever has the golden share in a Chinese company is
- 11:49Speaker 5: the only person that can decide to sell it. So
- 11:52Speaker 5: how many public Chinese companies listed on the NASDAQ and
- 11:55Speaker 5: New York Stock Exchange have this secret golden share?
- 11:59Speaker 2: What is this?
- 12:00Speaker 5: And I don't think that's even legal if it's not
- 12:02Speaker 5: disclosed in a perspectives if you're buying stock in these companies.
- 12:05Speaker 5: A lot of American shareholders in this Bike Dance Steel,
- 12:08Speaker 5: I don't know if they knew about the golden share.
- 12:11Speaker 5: But there ain't no deal until the guy with the
- 12:13Speaker 5: golden share decides he wants to sell.
- 12:15Speaker 4: And that's chea.
- 12:16Speaker 5: But I think you're gonna hear a lot of noise
- 12:18Speaker 5: about this. I noticed a post from Lindsey Graham. He's
- 12:21Speaker 5: freaking out about this, and he wants to make sure
- 12:24Speaker 5: that he's gonna put a bill out of.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Family all right. So Kevin kind of spazzing out a
- 12:30Speaker 1: little bit there about this golden share because it did
- 12:32Speaker 1: come out of the blue, you know, on really the
- 12:34Speaker 1: eleventh hour. Within that, I want to jump to one
- 12:37Speaker 1: more clip and then I'm gonna ask you some questions
- 12:39Speaker 1: around these. This is Frank McCord, who is the leadover
- 12:44Speaker 1: at Project Liberty, and he's talking about, you know, the
- 12:46Speaker 1: culmination of resources, and one of them is talking about Jimmy,
- 12:51Speaker 1: mister beast, and I wanted to get your opinion on this.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Take a look.
- 12:55Speaker 6: The twenty billion is not coming from Kevin O'Leary, but
- 12:58Speaker 6: it's basically coming from all the major investment firms. In
- 13:03Speaker 6: addition to that, we anticipate that the existing investors in
- 13:09Speaker 6: byte Dance will want to roll over their investment in
- 13:12Speaker 6: a spun off us TikTok so capital is oodles of
- 13:16Speaker 6: capital here.
- 13:16Speaker 2: And have you been in touch with byte Dance about
- 13:18Speaker 2: the deal. We have been in touch with byte Dance
- 13:20Speaker 2: through bankers.
- 13:21Speaker 6: Byte Dance is silent right now other than acknowledging receipt
- 13:26Speaker 6: of our offer, which by the way, was the only
- 13:29Speaker 6: only offer that went to DOJ and got approved. Now
- 13:33Speaker 6: I think they're just waiting to see what president she
- 13:37Speaker 6: decides to do.
- 13:38Speaker 5: There have been a few other folks saying that they're
- 13:41Speaker 5: interested in a bid.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Mister Beast, would you ever consider just merging all of
- 13:46Speaker 2: those efforts. Mister Beast has talked to all of us,
- 13:50Speaker 2: so I won't. I won't.
- 13:51Speaker 6: And mister Beasts is going to be a part of
- 13:54Speaker 6: this bid too, so he's very entrepreneurial, let's put it
- 13:57Speaker 6: that way.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Welcome everyone, all.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Right, So Frank McCourt hitting there on all the investors.
- 14:04Speaker 1: That was kind of how Kevin O'Leary joined the package,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you know, jumping in with Frank all making that effort
- 14:10Speaker 1: going forward. But I'm going to go back to the
- 14:12Speaker 1: investment thing first on the question of Congress maybe revealing
- 14:16Speaker 1: this whole idea around these golden shares, because this is
- 14:19Speaker 1: a new spin on what's happening on this deal. Do
- 14:23Speaker 1: you think this spoils it for the deal to go through?
- 14:26Speaker 1: With you know, the CCPs essentially holding the Trump cards,
- 14:31Speaker 1: so to speak, on this deal.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I'm not sure how that's going to play. I can
- 14:36Speaker 4: tell you that what Frank has done is very smart.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Is as opposed to trying to go at this with
- 14:44Speaker 4: Frank and the team of Project Liberty and the People's
- 14:47Speaker 4: Bid if you will, and the resources that Frank has
- 14:51Speaker 4: by partnering with Kevin O'Leary, who has you know, direct
- 14:55Speaker 4: connections to Trump and has actually met in Marie Lago
- 14:58Speaker 4: with him recently about this, and mister Beast as well
- 15:02Speaker 4: and cutting him in for this, we're almost decentralizing in
- 15:06Speaker 4: a way of going after TikTok. One of the beauties
- 15:10Speaker 4: or one of the advantages that we have versus everybody
- 15:13Speaker 4: else is think about this, We're already decentralized sitting on chain.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You have Project Liberty and its connections to it's chained
- 15:24Speaker 4: particularly and then you have us part of that chain,
- 15:28Speaker 4: if you will. So there's already twenty one million people
- 15:32Speaker 4: on our platform in me we if you will, but
- 15:37Speaker 4: million five active users, and we're just talking about taking TikTok,
- 15:41Speaker 4: no algorithm, We don't need the algorithm, which is an
- 15:44Speaker 4: advantage over everybody else, and plugging that into what we're doing.
- 15:48Speaker 4: So it's a very different approach. We don't think that
- 15:52Speaker 4: other players that are out there, whether it's Elon, a
- 15:55Speaker 4: friend of you know, Trump, if you will, or any
- 15:58Speaker 4: other player can do the same thing. And if the
- 16:02Speaker 4: government truly wants TikTok to be decentralized, truly wants to
- 16:07Speaker 4: disassemble the algorithm which theoretically is allowing China to gain
- 16:12Speaker 4: all this data and information about behavior of our children
- 16:16Speaker 4: and activity, then our bid makes much more sense than
- 16:20Speaker 4: anything else that's out there. The question is in a
- 16:23Speaker 4: Trumpian world, and again me, we is a very a
- 16:26Speaker 4: political platform. We have right, we have left, but we're
- 16:29Speaker 4: more of a lifestyle groups and so forth. But in
- 16:34Speaker 4: this world, I don't know what he will want for
- 16:38Speaker 4: himself in this whole world, and I don't know how
- 16:43Speaker 4: much the King, I guess you could say, has got
- 16:47Speaker 4: to be a part of this bid.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Interesting, okay, all right, So with Jimmy mister Beast joining in,
- 16:55Speaker 1: this could really change things a little bit because I realized,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you know, Kevin o'lara, there's a cert amount of awareness
- 17:01Speaker 1: that he brings. But when you look at where mister
- 17:04Speaker 1: Beast is globally, I mean, one of the top ten
- 17:06Speaker 1: YouTube channels out there, I would say, one of the
- 17:08Speaker 1: most creative and entrepreneurial according to even Frank, there's a
- 17:12Speaker 1: big opportunity here. So how much of an input with
- 17:17Speaker 1: mister Beasts coming into the deal, do you think it
- 17:19Speaker 1: would have as leverage to be able to get this
- 17:22Speaker 1: deal done.
- 17:24Speaker 4: I think it has a lot of Every time you
- 17:27Speaker 4: add someone that either has a relationship with the president
- 17:30Speaker 4: or someone that has widespread public appeal is going to
- 17:36Speaker 4: make a big difference to the president. Mister Trump is
- 17:41Speaker 4: very interested in how he's perceived, and he's also a
- 17:46Speaker 4: business person, you know, he sees himself as a free
- 17:49Speaker 4: market business person. So I think it does help our
- 17:52Speaker 4: bid a lot. One of the other things that's going
- 17:55Speaker 4: to happen here is blockchain is not mainstream. People just
- 17:59Speaker 4: know of blockchain as you can trade bigcoins and things
- 18:02Speaker 4: like that. On your show. You have very sophisticated folks
- 18:05Speaker 4: that are watching your show and they get this. They
- 18:07Speaker 4: understand wallets and crypto and so forth. But that's a
- 18:11Speaker 4: microcosm right of the whole world. So people may hold
- 18:15Speaker 4: bitcoins and they don't know anything else about blockchain. They
- 18:17Speaker 4: just think of it as you're you're trading. We're trying
- 18:21Speaker 4: to set up a world where there's real apps with
- 18:24Speaker 4: some real support below it, not like mean coins, right,
- 18:28Speaker 4: real apps with real things going on that support a
- 18:32Speaker 4: proper token economy. If we could take TikTok and add it,
- 18:37Speaker 4: whether its one hundred and seventy million or so monthly
- 18:40Speaker 4: active users in a US format, and a mister beast
- 18:44Speaker 4: who has such following, all of a sudden, you're the
- 18:47Speaker 4: wave over to blockchain and the wave over to this
- 18:51Speaker 4: Web three world. That's why they could make it happen
- 18:55Speaker 4: for everybody, and then people would realize there's more to
- 18:59Speaker 4: it than trading bitcoins. And then the other key thing
- 19:03Speaker 4: is going to be people these these companies, like whether
- 19:06Speaker 4: it's c Solano or you you name it, Solano, all
- 19:11Speaker 4: of them, all the individual chains, they have to figure
- 19:14Speaker 4: out ways ethereum to get interoperable and be able to
- 19:18Speaker 4: have these secure bridges to talk to each other. And
- 19:21Speaker 4: I think this could be the push to make blockchain
- 19:26Speaker 4: Web three ubiquitous and take it into a world where
- 19:30Speaker 4: you have real apps supporting real currencies. Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Well, one thing that you hit on here in terms
- 19:36Speaker 1: of the conversion you know, from web to to Web
- 19:38Speaker 1: three and the adoption cycle, because you're right right now,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, I would say, yes, the crypto market is
- 19:43Speaker 1: growing though but yet still a bubble, much like what
- 19:46Speaker 1: tech was in you know, the early two thousands. But
- 19:49Speaker 1: you look at at Jimmy, mister Beast and where his
- 19:54Speaker 1: world appeal and a lot of the things he does
- 19:57Speaker 1: in terms of strategy, one of the biggest things mister
- 19:59Speaker 1: b is known for is giving back to his audience.
- 20:03Speaker 1: One of the cornerstones of blockchain is the idea of
- 20:07Speaker 1: air drops. You know, so if you think about a
- 20:09Speaker 1: TikTok token and an air drop that, you know, mister
- 20:13Speaker 1: Beasts could be a part of, you know, to be
- 20:15Speaker 1: able to translate that. That's an immediate plug in to
- 20:20Speaker 1: almost every culture on the planet because everybody kind of
- 20:23Speaker 1: understands how that works. That would be a fanatical way
- 20:26Speaker 1: to get this done in terms of the value proposition
- 20:29Speaker 1: to get new users coming on to TikTok. If this
- 20:32Speaker 1: deal goes through, you think something like that could happen.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Yes, I do believe something like that would happen. But again,
- 20:39Speaker 4: the wild card is the administration. If the Democratic administration
- 20:43Speaker 4: had stayed in place with Biden, the Supreme Court would
- 20:46Speaker 4: not be overruled in a way. And I believe this
- 20:50Speaker 4: deal actually could have happened. Now with this ninety day stay,
- 20:55Speaker 4: I think that there's going to be a lot of
- 20:57Speaker 4: other players, like you mentioned, coming into this world. But
- 21:00Speaker 4: Project Liberty is about decentralizing, is about involving Jimmy and
- 21:06Speaker 4: Kevin O'Leary and other folks part of it. It's a
- 21:09Speaker 4: big enough deal that these people could be a part
- 21:12Speaker 4: of it. So in a way, you're treating the TikTok
- 21:15Speaker 4: deal like the way Web three operates.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree with that. I want to play
- 21:20Speaker 1: a clip for you. This is Kevin talking about the
- 21:24Speaker 1: expansion into international and that's and I think there's a
- 21:27Speaker 1: strategy here in case this deal doesn't go through. But
- 21:30Speaker 1: take a look at this.
- 21:31Speaker 2: But it gets better.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Frank and I are going to fly over to India
- 21:34Speaker 5: and meet with Mody and say, listen, why don't we
- 21:36Speaker 5: light up those two hundred and ten million uses you
- 21:38Speaker 5: turned off in twenty twenty. Same with Switzerland, France, Germany, England, Canada.
- 21:41Speaker 5: That's really what Frank and I are doing here with
- 21:44Speaker 5: Project Liberty. We've got a big plan here and it
- 21:47Speaker 5: starts with saving TikTok, but we don't stop there. We
- 21:51Speaker 5: grow this much bigger and we think we can. It's
- 21:53Speaker 5: a fantastic idea. We've failed users in America with all
- 21:58Speaker 5: social media. They don't try us where their data goes.
- 22:01Speaker 5: I don't care, not just TikTok, all of them.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So you see that international expansion that obviously would be
- 22:08Speaker 1: a huge boon for the US version of TikTok. That
- 22:12Speaker 1: would not especially if it's decentralized and it's on an
- 22:15Speaker 1: open blockchain. And this is where I want to get
- 22:18Speaker 1: into some scenarios around what you guys are doing, because
- 22:22Speaker 1: when you look at well, first of all, before I
- 22:24Speaker 1: go there, I want to ask you about the question
- 22:26Speaker 1: around what if this doesn't go through, What if Frank's
- 22:29Speaker 1: bid to move on this does not happen? Where does
- 22:33Speaker 1: Project Liberty stand? Where would this affect you guys going forward?
- 22:37Speaker 4: Sure, so we're the first project, if you will, the
- 22:42Speaker 4: first app that came onto Project Liberty a couple of
- 22:44Speaker 4: years ago. It's always been conceived that, and we would
- 22:49Speaker 4: be interoperable with other apps. Otherwise this doesn't make sense.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Project Liberty had three prongs to it, if you talk
- 22:55Speaker 4: to Frank, the technology component and movement component, and a
- 23:01Speaker 4: governance component. Because you can't not have one of those
- 23:04Speaker 4: three steps, if you will, or one of those three
- 23:07Speaker 4: points on a stool in order for this to work.
- 23:09Speaker 4: So me we is the first and we've proven over
- 23:13Speaker 4: the last six months that we can get some scale,
- 23:16Speaker 4: nothing like the scale of a TikTok and so forth.
- 23:19Speaker 4: But there are four to six other apps that will
- 23:23Speaker 4: be coming on board, including apps that relate to the
- 23:27Speaker 4: original ancestry dot com. They had over one hundred million
- 23:32Speaker 4: users on that particular app. Well, the gentleman behind that
- 23:36Speaker 4: and other apps, if you will, that are very successful
- 23:38Speaker 4: are adding those apps to the Project Liberty Foundation. All
- 23:42Speaker 4: of those are going to be sitting with an underlying
- 23:46Speaker 4: Polka dot on the Polka Dot chain, if you will,
- 23:49Speaker 4: in terms of the things I mentioned to you earlier
- 23:53Speaker 4: about having your own access, the validation of you as user,
- 23:59Speaker 4: your login, getting your universal log in, and then being
- 24:02Speaker 4: able to attach your social graph, so that'll exist. So look,
- 24:06Speaker 4: if TikTok happens, which we hope it does, and then
- 24:09Speaker 4: everything else that Kevin is talking about, all of a sudden,
- 24:12Speaker 4: this is a giant movement. It's worldwide and it puts
- 24:15Speaker 4: a lot of pressure on the facebooks and other players
- 24:18Speaker 4: in the world that now we are blockchain, We're on
- 24:21Speaker 4: Web three. That's where we're going. It will go there
- 24:24Speaker 4: governments are going to blockchain. It will go there at
- 24:27Speaker 4: sometimes banks, JP Morgan will go there. So I think
- 24:31Speaker 4: the project would be successful without a TikTok. It's just
- 24:35Speaker 4: TikTok gives it scale, huge scale right away.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Well, yeah, it's immediate. And to your point, what about
- 24:43Speaker 1: the scenario that played out when TikTok was banned. We
- 24:46Speaker 1: saw the rise of red Note on the app store,
- 24:49Speaker 1: another Chinese product that it appears that users of TikTok
- 24:54Speaker 1: are like, we don't care that our data is being
- 24:56Speaker 1: given away to other countries. Were you guys surprised that
- 25:00Speaker 1: that was happening so quickly or was it just a
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know, kind of the evidence of they had nowhere
- 25:06Speaker 1: else to go? What was your opinion?
- 25:09Speaker 4: I think people had nowhere else to go. They didn't
- 25:12Speaker 4: know what to do, They don't know the alternative, and
- 25:15Speaker 4: quite frankly, you know, we're we're not a TikTok. MiWi
- 25:20Speaker 4: is not a TikTok. We're a social platform with groups.
- 25:22Speaker 4: We can coordinate and work well with a TikTok type platform.
- 25:27Speaker 4: But I do believe that they didn't have anybody anywhere
- 25:29Speaker 4: else to go.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Explain to me a little bit about how this is working,
- 25:35Speaker 1: because this is where I get confused. When the first
- 25:38Speaker 1: time I got a chance to really see you talk,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you were talking with John wu at the Avalanche summit
- 25:44Speaker 1: in Argentina and the connection. Then you mentioned, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 1: the launch of an l one. That's an Avalanche you
- 25:50Speaker 1: know solution. But at the same time, I look over
- 25:53Speaker 1: here on the Frequency website, which this is essentially a
- 25:57Speaker 1: similar model for Polka You've got me we on there,
- 26:01Speaker 1: we are eight. How does this are you guys on Avalanche?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Now are you moving to Frequency or vice versa? What's
- 26:10Speaker 1: the what's the situation?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Okay, so you know, thank you for bringing this up.
- 26:19Speaker 4: We are the underlying technology and the underlying project Liberty
- 26:25Speaker 4: sits on Polka Dot. That's like I said, the universal
- 26:29Speaker 4: log in. You're gonna get that universal log in from
- 26:33Speaker 4: signing up to me we or we are eight or
- 26:36Speaker 4: any of these other interoperable apps. You're going to get
- 26:38Speaker 4: that from Polka Dot. Now that so you come on
- 26:44Speaker 4: through Polka Dot if you will let your door into.
- 26:47Speaker 4: They have a fantastic tech stack, very reliable. It's been
- 26:51Speaker 4: tested at scalable. Project Liberty and Frank and his technology
- 26:55Speaker 4: team led by Braxton, Woodham and Harry. They've tested that
- 26:59Speaker 4: out so they know it's scalable, which is key. What
- 27:03Speaker 4: we're doing with Avalanche is one, we're starting to prove
- 27:08Speaker 4: out the interoperability concept that could exist between a Polka
- 27:12Speaker 4: Dot and an Avalanche, because chains have to be interoperable.
- 27:16Speaker 4: And two is that we're launching our own l one
- 27:20Speaker 4: on Avalanche, so that me We the app itself and
- 27:25Speaker 4: the transactions that occur on me We would all happen
- 27:29Speaker 4: on the Avalanche network. So the signing in the social graph,
- 27:35Speaker 4: the movement of that social graph from app to app
- 27:37Speaker 4: to app will all occur within a Polka Dot framework,
- 27:41Speaker 4: and the frequency token, which is Frank's token, will exist there.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Users that come on board will get frequency tokens at
- 27:50Speaker 4: this utility token at some point in time, and they'll
- 27:53Speaker 4: be able to use that they're staking, et cetera. And
- 27:56Speaker 4: then me We the app and all of its functioning
- 28:00Speaker 4: and commercialization will exist on the l one Avalanche platform.
- 28:05Speaker 4: And then other apps, location based, camera, whatever it is,
- 28:10Speaker 4: can add to our app on Avalanche and they'll be
- 28:14Speaker 4: able to utilize the tokens that we're going to be
- 28:17Speaker 4: coming out with there. If that makes sense.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So by default, then with Avalanches technology, all those other
- 28:24Speaker 1: l ones which are interoperable with each other, now have
- 28:28Speaker 1: the capacity to eventually scale across social which is where
- 28:32Speaker 1: you get the decentralized connection. Okay, I understand how this
- 28:36Speaker 1: is how you guys go ahead?
- 28:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and Paul was pardon me, I just was going
- 28:40Speaker 4: to say, when we look at this as a benefit
- 28:42Speaker 4: for Project Liberty and a benefit for the Polka Dot connection,
- 28:46Speaker 4: because now you have the Polka Dot ecosystem and everything
- 28:50Speaker 4: that's being built there, all the Project Liberty apps that
- 28:53Speaker 4: keep adding one by one by one, and then you
- 28:56Speaker 4: avail yourself. Also what's happening Like you've inferred on the
- 28:59Speaker 4: Avalanche side with other l ones and other apps on Avalanche,
- 29:03Speaker 4: and at some point they're going to have to talk
- 29:06Speaker 4: to each other and roallets are going to have to
- 29:08Speaker 4: be able to exchange tokens, et cetera. So we think
- 29:10Speaker 4: we're going to get the benefit me we is and
- 29:12Speaker 4: Project Liberty of both.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a big deal because I think this is
- 29:17Speaker 1: the has been the missing link for a real Web
- 29:21Speaker 1: three social platform to take to take hold and really
- 29:25Speaker 1: do well. Noster more of a Bitcoin community. Lens you know,
- 29:30Speaker 1: far Caster not a complete solution Arena, very avalanche driven,
- 29:35Speaker 1: but very connected because of X. I get it. But
- 29:39Speaker 1: this would be the breakthrough that I think everybody would
- 29:41Speaker 1: be looking for. For sure. How quick for a l
- 29:44Speaker 1: one launch for you.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Guys, getting up as an l one can happen in weeks.
- 29:51Speaker 4: That's not the problem. That's not the challenge for us.
- 29:54Speaker 4: The challenge for us is is we're trying to design.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Since we have all these active users and thousands every
- 30:02Speaker 4: day that keep getting added, we want to make sure
- 30:05Speaker 4: we have a vibrant token economy, you know, a reward system,
- 30:08Speaker 4: a points system that works on a platform, so that
- 30:12Speaker 4: we incentivize people for the right behaviors. That we incentivize you, Paul,
- 30:17Speaker 4: for having your own group and having great content in
- 30:20Speaker 4: your group. We incentivize activity posts that are benefiting the
- 30:25Speaker 4: world and as we move toward the future, So we
- 30:28Speaker 4: want to get that squared away first. So I would
- 30:31Speaker 4: say we're a couple months away from finalizing that, and
- 30:36Speaker 4: once that's finalized, the l one would launch around the
- 30:38Speaker 4: same time.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Good for you, all right, So let's talk about Mark
- 30:43Speaker 1: Zuckerberg for a second. I know you have a little
- 30:45Speaker 1: bit of an opinion on this, and if you think
- 30:47Speaker 1: about Facebook and Meta in general, Instagram Zuckerberg has been
- 30:52Speaker 1: on camera a couple of times talking about the potential of,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you know, an open source dialogue for social in the future.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Do you think he's going to pull the trigger on
- 31:02Speaker 1: opening up Instagram and Meta.
- 31:06Speaker 4: I don't think he can, based upon some of the
- 31:09Speaker 4: comments that I made to you earlier. I think their
- 31:12Speaker 4: business model and their algorithms is too much around how
- 31:18Speaker 4: they're going to leverage you for selling ads, and I
- 31:21Speaker 4: don't know how. There's not a solution on the web,
- 31:25Speaker 4: on the web three world right now where that could
- 31:28Speaker 4: be done in a way that benefits decentralization. There are
- 31:33Speaker 4: things we're working on, there's things Project Liberty is working
- 31:36Speaker 4: on where you can own and control and turn on
- 31:39Speaker 4: and off on your own social graph, but that's not
- 31:43Speaker 4: here today. So I think that what look Mark flip flops.
- 31:50Speaker 4: He flip flops on his views on how he handled
- 31:53Speaker 4: Trump and banning people and then flipping back and making
- 31:57Speaker 4: donations to campaigns. So he's going to go where the
- 32:00Speaker 4: money is. I think he's going to say what he
- 32:02Speaker 4: needs to say. But I believe that what we're doing
- 32:06Speaker 4: is going to be more open source beneficial that Mark's doing.
- 32:11Speaker 4: And look, you can say you're open source, you could
- 32:14Speaker 4: say you're decentralizing, but then why not, You'll just control
- 32:19Speaker 4: all your own nodes and control all your own data.
- 32:22Speaker 4: So you can say, look, how decentralized we are. Right,
- 32:26Speaker 4: yet you're still controlling what's going on and you're not
- 32:29Speaker 4: getting realized.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a different It's listen, this is going to
- 32:33Speaker 1: be something that's going to take some time to unwind.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I mean, we've spent since two thousand and seven building
- 32:38Speaker 1: a framework around social media that has been walled gardens.
- 32:40Speaker 1: So I agree with you speaking of that. If TikTok
- 32:45Speaker 1: were to just say, if she were to come in
- 32:47Speaker 1: and say, okay, yeah, we're doing the deal with Frank
- 32:48Speaker 1: McCourt and we're going to release TikTok assets and it's
- 32:52Speaker 1: going to happen next week, would you be able to respond?
- 32:55Speaker 1: Would Project Liberty me we be able to say, okay,
- 32:59Speaker 1: we're going to be up in running in a matter
- 33:00Speaker 1: of how long.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Yes, that would fall more in Frank's group and Braxton
- 33:07Speaker 4: and that team. So I can't give you a timeframe,
- 33:10Speaker 4: but we have the technology, we know it's scalable in
- 33:14Speaker 4: Polka Dot, and we know we're at that point now
- 33:17Speaker 4: where it's interoperable, so something that would happen in over
- 33:22Speaker 4: a period of months would be my belief. But again
- 33:26Speaker 4: that's more in the line under control, under control of
- 33:29Speaker 4: the Project Liberty tech team.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Wow. Interesting. Hopefully this is the cycle. It's the next evolution,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know, if we're social will go, which will be
- 33:38Speaker 1: hopefully on blockchain. That's what we're hoping for for sure. Jeffery,
- 33:41Speaker 1: it's been great having you on. Thank you so much
- 33:43Speaker 1: for coming into the show today. We appreciate it.
- 33:46Speaker 4: Thank you, Paul, You take care all.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Right, thank you all? Are you guys? If you're not
- 33:50Speaker 1: tuned into the Diamond Circle, that's our own private group.
