- 0:39and has a purpose for them. So we're going to continue our
- 0:42Gospel of John series and today we are going to be in verses 19
- 0:46through 28 of John chapter one. And if you have not been reading
- 0:51the Bible before, if you're trying to learn along this
- 0:53journey with us, chapter just means that big number on your
- 0:57Bible, the big one that shows that's the chapter and the
- 1:00littler numbers are called the verses.
- 1:02And so we are still in chapter 1 of the Gospel of John and we're
- 1:06going to be starting in the verse 19 and we're going to go
- 1:10all the way to verse 28 today. So let's get straight to it.
- 1:14It reads like this. This was John's testimony when
- 1:18the Jewish leader sent priest and temple assistance from
- 1:21Jerusalem to ask John, who are you?
- 1:24Verse 20 He came right out and said, I am not the Messiah.
- 1:29Verse 21 Well then who are you? They asked, are you Elijah?
- 1:34No, he replied, are you the prophet we are expecting?
- 1:38No, he just hit him with the straight answers.
- 1:40No. Verse 22 Then who are you?
- 1:44We need an answer for those who say, present us, what do you
- 1:47have to say about yourself? Verse 23 John replied, in the
- 1:52words of the prophet Isaiah, I am a voice shouting in the
- 1:55wilderness, clear the way for the Lord's coming.
- 1:59Verse 24. Then the Pharisees who had been
- 2:02sent verse 25 asked him, If you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or
- 2:07the prophet, what right do you have to baptize?
- 2:11Verse 26 John told them, I baptize with water, but right
- 2:16here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize.
- 2:19Verse 27 Though his ministry follows mine, I'm not even
- 2:23worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal.
- 2:28Verse 28 This encounter took place in Bethany, an area east
- 2:32of the Jordan River where John was baptizing.
- 2:35So we got a lot to unpack. We got a lot to unpack.
- 2:38We're we're diving into the testimony of John the Baptist
- 2:41and we've been talking a lot about testimony these last few
- 2:45weeks in the Gospel of John, of John had a call.
- 2:49He had a purpose on his life to testify about the coming Messiah
- 2:53who is Jesus. And I love how in verse 19, John
- 2:57starts with this answer. When these temple assistants,
- 3:00these priests are sent to question John because they're
- 3:03clearly seeing that there's a crowd surrounding him.
- 3:06The, the words gotten back to Jerusalem and the, and the
- 3:09Pharisees and the priests and the temple assistants have now
- 3:12been sent by the Jewish leaders, the Pharisees to check in on
- 3:15what's going on 'cause clearly there's a crowd being formed and
- 3:18there's some, there's some gossiping happening, the words
- 3:21getting around saying, man, there's this man named John.
- 3:24People in and flocks are coming to be baptized by him.
- 3:27And the now the, the Jewish leaders want to know what's
- 3:31going on. Who is this?
- 3:32Why is there people going to be baptized by this man until they
- 3:35approach John and they ask him, who are you?
- 3:38They ask that powerful question that many of us maybe ask as
- 3:43well to God, who are you? But they're asking to John, who
- 3:46are you? But really they they're asking
- 3:48John, but they're not asking the right question that who is John
- 3:53preparing the way for? Why is John doing this?
- 3:56Rather, they're trying to ask him, who are you?
- 3:59And I love how John just spits back in verse 20.
- 4:02He came right out and said, I am not the Messiah.
- 4:05Because really, John knows they're coming to ask him this
- 4:09question because they're wondering, is this the one
- 4:12they've been waiting for? Is this the one that in the Old
- 4:15Testament, the prophecies, prophecies have been spoken
- 4:18about that the Messiah will come one day?
- 4:21And maybe you haven't heard that word Messiah and you're
- 4:23wondering, what does Messiah even mean?
- 4:26Messiah truly comes from the Hebrew word mashiach, which
- 4:31translates to the anointed 1 in the Greek equivalent.
- 4:34In the New Testament, the New Testament's written in Greek,
- 4:37the Old Testament's written in Hebrew and Aramaic.
- 4:39So in the Old Testament, the word mashiach translates to the
- 4:43anointed one. But then in the Greek, which is
- 4:45the New Testament, So when John says this, when it's translated
- 4:48in the Gospel of John, the anointed one really meant
- 4:51Christos or Christ Jesus. Christ Jesus is the anointed
- 4:57one. He's the Messiah that was
- 4:59promised long ago. So John quickly and swiftly lets
- 5:03them know that I am not the Messiah, I am not Jesus.
- 5:06The one who's in the crowd that you do not even recognize, the
- 5:09one who's been spoken about from the Old Testaments, from the,
- 5:12from the scriptures you study and know as he's speaking to
- 5:15these religious leaders and priests and temple assistants,
- 5:18the scriptures, you know, the ones you study, the ones you
- 5:21teach, I am not the one that you're thinking I am.
- 5:24But he's in this crowd, but you do not recognize him.
- 5:27And when we think about this word, even the root word of this
- 5:31being the anointed one, what does that mean?
- 5:34So we have Messiah in Greek meaning Christos or Christ.
- 5:39But the anointed 1, the anointed one, what that means is it's
- 5:42someone that has been chosen or set apart and empowered by God
- 5:48for a specific purpose. The term literally refers to a
- 5:52ceremonial act of rubbing or pouring oil over someone.
- 5:56So if you remember the Old Testament, when David was, when
- 5:59Saul, Saul was first anointed king of Israel, they poured oil
- 6:03over him. But then when David was the next
- 6:06one anointed to become the king of Israel, there was oil the
- 6:10prophet of Samuel poured over David.
- 6:12It, it is to represent an outward expression and
- 6:15representation of who's been chosen by God, set apart by God,
- 6:19that's empowered for a specific purpose.
- 6:22And I think that's pretty cool that there's this symbol we use
- 6:25this language in the church now when we are baptized, right?
- 6:28This outward expression of an inward decision that we've made
- 6:31our faith in Jesus. Faith it, We are saved through
- 6:35faith by grace because of our faith in Jesus, that now we are
- 6:38saved and we are marked as a child of God.
- 6:41But the baptism represents in it and it aligns us, it unifies us
- 6:45with Jesus as we die to our old selves.
- 6:47We are now raised to a new life in Christ Jesus.
- 6:49The old creation is dead and gone.
- 6:52We are now a new creation in Jesus.
- 6:54That symbolizing that we are now set apart.
- 6:58We're chosen, we are his children, but now that's
- 7:01represented through what? The empowerment of the Holy
- 7:04Spirit. But now we have in the New
- 7:07Testament, as Jesus tells us, you want me to go back up to
- 7:10heaven because then I can send the Advocate, the Helper, the
- 7:13Holy Spirit. Any believer who puts their
- 7:15faith in Jesus is now filled with the Holy Spirit that we are
- 7:19chosen and set apart, that we're empowered by God through the
- 7:22Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God within us.
- 7:25That is why we are anointed by God because of the Holy Spirit
- 7:29living in US. And so when we read those words
- 7:31of, of the Messiah, when, when John is quick to respond like
- 7:35that, there's a reason for it because John is trying to let
- 7:37them know I am not who you're trying to ask.
- 7:41You're trying to ask me who I am and I am not the Messiah that is
- 7:44Jesus Christ. He is the anointed 1.
- 7:47He is the one that's been chosen and set apart by God.
- 7:50He is the one that we've read about that's been taught to us
- 7:53through the prophets of the old. And so then they go on again to
- 7:56ask him, Well then who are you then?
- 7:58If you're not the Messiah, who are you?
- 8:00And then they ask, are you Elijah?
- 8:02And John's like, no, even though there's some implication even
- 8:06from Jesus in the Gospels that John was a representation and
- 8:11sorts of Elijah. But they said, are you the
- 8:13prophet we were expecting? No, but I love this, even though
- 8:17with what Jesus says within the Gospel concerning John the
- 8:21Baptist, John's point right here is it's not about me.
- 8:26And I think for us, we can take notes from John's testimony that
- 8:30when we've put our faith in Jesus, it's about Jesus.
- 8:34And I think sometimes we can get caught up in wanting it to be
- 8:36about us or us get the praise or people focus on us and what
- 8:40we're doing. John has flocks and crowds of
- 8:44people coming to be baptized by him.
- 8:46He could easily start to get a big head and think about himself
- 8:50as someone that is so known and look at man, look at me.
- 8:54My ministry is now spreading across across this countryside
- 8:58that even now I have religious leaders and priests coming to me
- 9:02to ask me who I am because they are so astounded by how many
- 9:06people are coming to be baptized by me with water.
- 9:10And that just hit me when I was even sitting on that.
- 9:13If you are a leader, if you are a pastor, if you are a Christian
- 9:16and you have influence because the reality is everyone has
- 9:19influence. Everyone is a leader.
- 9:21There are people around you, even when you don't know it,
- 9:23that are looking at you, that are influenced by you.
- 9:26And I think sometimes we can get very caught up in our influence
- 9:31or get caught up in our own strength or our own power or
- 9:34what we're doing or how things are growing because we are the
- 9:38ones leading it. We have to be very careful and
- 9:41cautious. And we got to take this humility
- 9:44from John's testimony and witness right here that it's not
- 9:47about me. It's about the one who's in the
- 9:51crowd that you haven't even recognized yet.
- 9:53It's about the one who lives inside me.
- 9:56This ministry, people coming and being drawn to not me, but the
- 10:01one who lives inside me. And I have to remind myself of
- 10:05that as a pastor of a leader, that when God's moving, when
- 10:08God's drawing people to himself, I get to just be his vessel and
- 10:12instrument. It's not about Carlos, it's
- 10:14about Jesus. And I give him the praise that
- 10:18it's all about his favor, His blessing, His overflow within
- 10:21me, not me. So we have to be very careful
- 10:25that when people come and ask, who are you or who are you,
- 10:28Carlos, That I'm not quick to respond about who I am, but I'm
- 10:31quick to point them to the one that has called me, that has
- 10:34anointed me, that has set me apart, that now the Holy Spirit
- 10:38lives inside me. And I can point them to the one
- 10:40who saved me, the one who's doing all the things in my life,
- 10:43the one who has radically changed me, the one who moves
- 10:46within me to cause Kingdom power to overflow out of my life.
- 10:52And it's Jesus. So I love how John is quick to
- 10:55say, no, no, quick, short. I'm not giving you more
- 10:58explanation because it's not about me.
- 11:00I am not the Messiah. And verse 22, Then who are you?
- 11:04We need an answer for those who sent us.
- 11:06What do you have to say about yourself?
- 11:08I mean, come on, man, get a little pushy, a little pushy,
- 11:11little Jewish leaders. Come on, man, they're coming.
- 11:14They're like, come on, John, we need to know who you are.
- 11:16People sent us. You got clearly things are, are
- 11:19happening here and we need to know who you are.
- 11:22And it's even that heart posture of the Jewish leaders.
- 11:26They're so concerned about trying to control a situation
- 11:30that's out of their control 'cause it's from God.
- 11:32People who teach about God, who are literally put into places of
- 11:36leadership in the temple over Jewish people, the, the, the
- 11:40chosen people. Here's these leaders that are
- 11:43sent by the other leaders in the in the temple, in the church,
- 11:48and they're questioning over and over again.
- 11:50They're wanting to know who John is.
- 11:52But really they just want to know because they want to see
- 11:54how they can either control or or oversee what is happening
- 11:58'cause there is people that are coming in waves and clearly
- 12:03something's going on and they're not a part of it.
- 12:06They're not there, but John is. And so who is this John?
- 12:11Does he speak for our God? Is he just on his own?
- 12:14Is he, is he really, is he really true?
- 12:17Is it what he's doing? Is ministry really true?
- 12:19Is it from God or is it his own doing?
- 12:22And so they're asking and we need to know who you are.
- 12:24And the reality is they're so concerned on a person that
- 12:27they're missing the person of Christ that's in the crowd.
- 12:31They're missing the purpose of God that's happening over John,
- 12:35the call of God. That's on John's life of who
- 12:39he's testifying about. They're asking the wrong
- 12:44questions. And a lot of us do that as well.
- 12:47And we get caught up in asking these questions or ask these
- 12:50questions of other people rather than really figuring out who we
- 12:56should be seeking the answers from.
- 12:59And we should be going to God. That we should take a moment to
- 13:01be still and know that He's got to calm ourselves, to sit with
- 13:06the Holy Spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to His truth,
- 13:10to ask the right questions, to be specific, to reach up rather
- 13:15than look around sometimes. And for them, they're just
- 13:17looking around and they're so focused on John that they're not
- 13:21even seeing what God is doing and what He's who He's preparing
- 13:25the way for. And I love it 'cause he says in
- 13:28verse 23, John replied in the words of the prophet, and I love
- 13:31this. John doesn't respond with his
- 13:33own words. He responds with the words of
- 13:35God, just as Jesus, when he's LED into the wilderness and the
- 13:40enemy, the devil, Satan, tries to come and tempt him.
- 13:42What does Jesus do? He uses the word of God to
- 13:45combat Satan. And I love this 'cause they're
- 13:48clearly trying to ask things from their own desires.
- 13:52They're not truly seeking out God's will.
- 13:54They're not truly seeking out God.
- 13:56They're not even recognizing that Jesus the Messiah, that
- 13:59they're asking if John is the Messiah.
- 14:02They're not even realizing that the Messiah, the one who has
- 14:04been promised the anointed 1 is literally in the crowd with
- 14:07them. But they're so focused on John.
- 14:10And I love how John just uses God's words to speak back to
- 14:13them. And he quotes in Isaiah, he
- 14:16says, I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, clear the way
- 14:20for the Lord's coming. John's like, listen, I'm just a
- 14:24voice shouting in the wilderness to clear the way for the Lord's
- 14:28coming because it's about him. I am just doing the will of my
- 14:32heavenly Father who's called me to be a messenger, to be a
- 14:37testifier, to lead the way and prepare the way for the Messiah
- 14:41who comes. And so I'm just a voice shouting
- 14:44to you, open your eyes. That's what's even John saying
- 14:48to these religious leaders who's who are asking them, who are
- 14:51you? He's saying, open your eyes.
- 14:54I'm just a voice shouting that the Messiah is among us, that
- 14:58the Lord is coming, that he's already here.
- 15:02And you guys keep asking me these questions over and over
- 15:04again. And I'm trying to get you to fix
- 15:06your eyes on heaven, to ask God to lift the veil off your eyes
- 15:10so you can see clearly. But you're so focused on me and
- 15:14what's happening around me that you're not even seeing that the
- 15:17Messiah is here right now, that I'm preparing, that I'm clearing
- 15:21the way for the Lord's coming. And then it says in verse 24,
- 15:25then the Pharisees who had been sent asked in verse 25, if you
- 15:31aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet, what right do you
- 15:36have to baptize? So now we're getting to the
- 15:40heart of the issue. Now they finally show their
- 15:44cards. It took them a little while, but
- 15:45they finally got there. So again, they come to you
- 15:48almost, you know, as if they're a little sneaky and slick.
- 15:51Well, who are you? Well, are you Elijah?
- 15:55Well, are you a prophet? We're expecting, Let's first see
- 15:58first 'cause maybe, maybe he is. You know, these, these religious
- 16:02leaders don't come in here hot first.
- 16:04Because what if this is the Messiah we've been waiting for?
- 16:07What if this is Elijah? Who would be, who would be
- 16:10promised to come again? Who?
- 16:11Who? Maybe this is a prophet of God.
- 16:13They didn't want to come first and they didn't want to try to
- 16:15go against God, but they wanted to be sneaky about it and slick
- 16:18about it. So they asked John all these
- 16:20questions over and over again without actually listening.
- 16:24Sometimes I think we do this. We are just, we're just
- 16:29listening. We're just listening so we can
- 16:31get ready to give our own response.
- 16:33And we've already decided what we're going to say beforehand,
- 16:36though we're not really hearing what someone is saying to us,
- 16:39but we're just listening so we can respond.
- 16:42And I think that's what they're doing.
- 16:43They're asking these questions not to really get the answers.
- 16:45They're just ask these questions so they can ask their next
- 16:47question, so they can really get John stumped or get him stuck in
- 16:53a lie. They're trying to question him,
- 16:54ask him, who are you? Who are you?
- 16:55Are you? So then finally we get to it.
- 16:58If you aren't. So we've asked you these
- 17:00questions and you said no, no, no.
- 17:03And so if you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet, what
- 17:08right do you have to baptize? Now we know their motives.
- 17:12Now we know why they were sent. Now you know why.
- 17:15In verse 19, when the Jewish leaders sent priests and temple
- 17:19assistance from Jerusalem to ask John Blank, they came to ask him
- 17:24who you are. They came to ask him first, Are
- 17:26you the Messiah? Are you Elijah?
- 17:28Are you the prophet? Let's ask these things first,
- 17:30because if he's not, then what right do you have to baptize?
- 17:36So now we get to the heart of what they're really asking or
- 17:38what they're really trying to accomplish here.
- 17:41They're trying to shut it down. They're trying to shut John
- 17:44down. But what they don't realize is
- 17:46they're trying to shut down God's will and plan that John
- 17:51had a call from God. He was set apart.
- 17:54He was chosen to clear the way for the Lord's coming.
- 17:57And ain't nobody, no gates of hell will prevail when it comes
- 18:02to God's plan and his call on someone's life.
- 18:06And so I love this because they're really now finally
- 18:10showing their cards that if you are not these things, then John,
- 18:13why do you, why do you have the right to baptize?
- 18:15You shouldn't be doing this. All these people around here
- 18:18crowding around, these people who are coming to be baptized by
- 18:21you. This shouldn't be happening.
- 18:23That if you're not the Messiah, you're not Elijah, and you're
- 18:24not the prophet we're expecting, then you need to stop.
- 18:28But little did they know, little did they know what John was
- 18:32doing and who John was called by God to prepare the way for
- 18:37Jesus's coming. And so I love it says in verse
- 18:3926, John told them, I baptize with water.
- 18:44But right here in the crowd, right here in the crowd, man,
- 18:47open your eyes, open your eyes. Some of us need to open our eyes
- 18:53that Jesus is right here with us.
- 18:56Jesus is in that. Jesus is in the room.
- 18:58Jesus is living inside of us. If we put our faith in him, we
- 19:01need to open our eyes and see him, to seek him, his truth.
- 19:07And I love this. As John says, right here in the
- 19:10crowd is someone you do not recognize.
- 19:13That you're so fixated on asking these questions to me that
- 19:18you're not even opening your eyes to see the one you're
- 19:21asking about is actually here in the crowd, the one we've been
- 19:26waiting for, anticipating, excited for, the one we've been
- 19:30teaching about, the one the prophet spoke about is right
- 19:33here in the crowd. But you do not recognize him in
- 19:36verse 27, though his ministry follows mine.
- 19:38I'm not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of
- 19:41his sandals. I want to touch on something
- 19:45first, 'cause if you're reading verse 26, you might think, why
- 19:48does John say I baptized with water?
- 19:52As we read in the Gospels, we will learn that John baptized
- 19:56with water. It was the, the, the baptism of
- 19:59repentance. So John, when he baptized
- 20:02people, he asked them to repent of their sins, to repent and
- 20:06repentance means to turn to God. That you're on a path that
- 20:10you're, that you're on leading you farther from God, that
- 20:13you're in sin, that you're not living according to God's
- 20:15standards over your life, and that you now turn back to God
- 20:20and follow him. That's what repentance means.
- 20:22And so John was preaching a message of repentance, and
- 20:25through the repentance of their sins, they were being baptized
- 20:27with water. But in Scripture, we read that
- 20:31John baptized with water, but Jesus would baptize us with
- 20:35fire, and fire represented the Holy Spirit.
- 20:39And what's cool if you've never read this story before, I wanted
- 20:43to kind of touch on this quickly, not sit on it too long,
- 20:45but I think this is important. In the book of Acts chapter 19
- 20:49verses one through 7, we read this story of Paul running into
- 20:55some believers. And so it says, I'll start in
- 20:58verse one. While Paulus was in Corinth,
- 21:00Paul travelled through the interior regions until he
- 21:02reached Ephesus on the coast where he found several
- 21:04believers. And in verse 2IN quotes it says,
- 21:08did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
- 21:11So Paul asks these believers he finds on, on his Rd. on his
- 21:15travels, did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
- 21:18And then and then they respond, these believers.
- 21:21So again, they're being described as believers.
- 21:23So they are Christians. But but, but Paul says to them,
- 21:27did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
- 21:29And they said, no, they replied, we haven't even heard that there
- 21:31is a Holy Spirit. So this is kind of weird.
- 21:35We got these people being described as believers.
- 21:37So they're Christians, but they've never heard of the Holy
- 21:40Spirit. But it goes on to say in verse
- 21:423, then what baptism did you experience?
- 21:46Paul asked. And they replied, the baptism of
- 21:50John, John the Baptist, which was what?
- 21:53Baptism through water? The repentance of sins.
- 21:58But then verse 4, Paul said John's baptism called for
- 22:01repentance from sin, but John himself told the people to
- 22:05believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.
- 22:11This is so cool. I love the Bible.
- 22:13It's so cool. So you have John 1, the story
- 22:15being written about John the Baptist, the Gospel of John.
- 22:19But then in Acts, a whole different story written by Luke.
- 22:24We have this story in chapter 19 where it says Paul's on his
- 22:27third missionary journey and he runs into these believers.
- 22:31But he asked them, have you received the Holy Spirit?
- 22:33And now here's these believers who say they don't even know
- 22:36who, who the Holy Spirit is, What's the Holy Spirit?
- 22:39And and they just, they tell Paul that they had been baptized
- 22:43by John. So again, remember guys, John
- 22:46had crowds and crowds of people who came to him and were
- 22:50baptized from the repentance of their sin.
- 22:53But there was believers who then scattered from John, who never
- 22:56really witnessed the Gospel message, that they didn't hear
- 23:01the good news, that they had repented of their sins and was
- 23:04baptized with water by John, but they hadn't put their faith in
- 23:08Jesus's life, death and resurrection, which is just
- 23:12crazy. Isn't that just crazy, how cool
- 23:15the word of God connects? And so you have this Paul
- 23:19running into these believers and he's saying you guys were
- 23:22baptized by John, but that was just through water.
- 23:25But you have to believe in the one who John was saying back to
- 23:28verse one, as he's speaking to the religious leaders, there's
- 23:31the one who will come later, the one who's who I can't even untie
- 23:35his, the straps of his sandals, the Messiah, the anointed, 1
- 23:39anointed by God. And so in verse 5 it says as
- 23:42soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the
- 23:46Lord Jesus. In verse 6.
- 23:48Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on
- 23:52them and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.
- 23:56They were about 12 men in awe. So Paul now reveals the gospel
- 24:01message to them, that he tells them, the one who John was
- 24:05preparing the way for he came and he lived a life that you and
- 24:09I could not live, that he lived a perfect life.
- 24:12Then he died a death that we deserved, and he died for your
- 24:15sins, and then three days later rose from the grave.
- 24:18And he gave them an opportunity to receive the good news because
- 24:23it is by faith in the gospel message that you are saved.
- 24:28So these men were believers, but they weren't saved and sealed by
- 24:32the Holy Spirit because they hadn't heard the good news.
- 24:35And I want to bring that up again.
- 24:37Romans I love in Romans 10, Romans 10, it says, this just
- 24:42made me think about it. I love this quote.
- 24:44I'm going to pull it up because I want to read it.
- 24:47It says in verse 14 after our our our verse we use because
- 24:56it's again Romans 10-9. If you openly declare that Jesus
- 24:59is Lord and believe in your heart that got raised from the
- 25:01dead, you will be saved. Verse 10 For it is by believing
- 25:04in your heart that you're made right with God, and it is by
- 25:07openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
- 25:10So again, you have to declare that Jesus is Lord and believe
- 25:13in your heart that what God raised him from the dead.
- 25:16These men were believers through John's baptism, but they hadn't
- 25:19even heard the good news, the gospel message that Jesus is
- 25:23Lord and that God raised him from the dead, that they could
- 25:27confess him as Lord with their mouths to receive the Holy
- 25:31Spirit, to be filled by the Holy Spirit.
- 25:34Because it says for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
- 25:37will be saved. But I love this verse 14.
- 25:41But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in
- 25:45him? And how can they believe in him
- 25:47if they have never heard about him?
- 25:49And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them in
- 25:53verse 15? And how will anyone go and tell
- 25:56them without being sent? That is why the scriptures say
- 26:01how beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news.
- 26:06Paul was being the feet, he was being the messenger to bring the
- 26:11good news to these 12 men who had not heard the gospel message
- 26:15yet. And so now Paul runs into them
- 26:18and even though they believed and they put the in the, even
- 26:20though they believed and were baptized by water through the
- 26:22repentance of their sins, they were now sealed by the Holy
- 26:26Spirit because of their faith in Jesus life, death and
- 26:28resurrection. But it is because of the
- 26:32beautiful feet of the messengers who bring the good news.
- 26:35How beautiful it is that we, if you put your faith in Jesus, we
- 26:39get to be the feet of Jesus. We get to be the messengers who
- 26:42bring the good news to people who don't know it yet that they
- 26:45can be saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit and get and receive
- 26:49eternal life through their faith in Jesus that you get to
- 26:52participate in the Great Commission.
- 26:54How incredible is that? And so we get back to John, and
- 26:59I love how John says I'm unworthy to even be a slave and
- 27:02untie the straps of his sandals. Jesus is King of kings, Lord of
- 27:06Lords. He again is acknowledging who
- 27:09Jesus is, the Son of God. And it finishes.
- 27:14This encounter took place in Bethany, an area east of the
- 27:17Jordan River where John was baptizing.
- 27:20I hope you are encouraged by this.
- 27:23I hope this challenges you to continue to dive deeper in your
- 27:27faith, to read more Scripture, to feast on the Word, to learn
- 27:31about God's truth through his truth that he's revealed to us,
- 27:35and that you continue to be a testimony for Christ that you be
- 27:40his hands and feet. Because how are people going to
- 27:43believe? How are people going to be
- 27:45saved? How are people going to come to
- 27:46know who Jesus is if the people who know him don't go and tell
- 27:50others about him? Because how beautiful are the
- 27:54feet who bring the good news? Go be someone who brings the
- 27:59good news to people who don't know it yet and be filled by the
- 28:03Holy Spirit and be reminded that you are sealed by him, that your
- 28:07faith in Jesus has sealed you, that your name is written in the
- 28:09book of life, and that you have eternal life.
- 28:12But what are you doing in this life right now to hopefully
- 28:15bring others with you to heaven? I love you guys.
- 28:18I thank you so much. Let me pray for y'all so we can
- 28:21get up out of here. Lord Jesus, I love you.
- 28:23Heavenly Father, I thank you for who you are.
- 28:26God, I pray that you fill us with your spirit and that we go
- 28:28and be unashamed. That we go testify about you.
- 28:31That we tell others about you. That we fix our eyes on Jesus.
- 28:34That we don't get caught up asking the wrong questions, we
- 28:36don't get caught up fixating on the wrong things, But that we
- 28:39realize that Jesus is with us, that he's in the room with us,
- 28:42That he lives inside us. God.
- 28:43That we can see him, we can seek him, we can find him.
- 28:47I love you, God, I thank you so much.
- 28:48I pray for your blessing and favor over those who are
- 28:50watching and listening to this right now.
- 28:52And I pray that they go and they be unashamed for Jesus and they
- 28:55spread the good news to all ends of the earth.
- 28:58We love you and we pray this in the powerful name of Jesus,
- 29:00Amen. I love y'all.
- 29:02God bless.
