- 0:25Speaker 5: All right, welcome to day three of the Patriots Unfiltered
- 0:29Speaker 5: Draft Extravaganza. We're gonna be here from one pm Eastern
- 0:34Speaker 5: to three pm Eastern. It's Mike do So, Evan Lazar,
- 0:37Speaker 5: Paul Parrilla, myself, Matt and the booth and let's get
- 0:41Speaker 5: right to it. While we were away, the Patriots had
- 0:45Speaker 5: two picks in the fourth round, the third and the tenth,
- 0:47Speaker 5: and Mike, you want to go over who they pay?
- 0:50Speaker 6: Oh yeah, well, I was gonna let Evan do the guard. No,
- 0:54Speaker 6: I want to start with you on Baker because no,
- 0:56Speaker 6: I think it's another It's a good pick. And you know,
- 0:59Speaker 6: he was every guy, a mock draft guy for me,
- 1:02Speaker 6: definitely had some heat around him, you know, coming in
- 1:05Speaker 6: Uh here thought like later in the draft he was
- 1:07Speaker 6: kind of a riser. But you know another guy that
- 1:10Speaker 6: you know, maybe isn't super explosive. He's got some drop issues.
- 1:13Speaker 6: But started at Alabama, has a good pedigree, tough with
- 1:16Speaker 6: the ball in his hands. He's just another guy and
- 1:18Speaker 6: it feels, you know, similar to me like Polk yesterday,
- 1:21Speaker 6: where they're football players. These are, you know, guys who
- 1:24Speaker 6: know how to play the position. And I'm excited. I'm
- 1:27Speaker 6: excited about these two picks. And I know that you know,
- 1:30Speaker 6: some people will will pourn out qualifiers on both of them,
- 1:33Speaker 6: but for me, I think these are two really.
- 1:35Speaker 7: Good wide receiver picks.
- 1:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I tell us about the guard. I can tell
- 1:40Speaker 8: you about the guard a little bit. I saw him
- 1:42Speaker 8: down at the Senior Bowl. Leyden Robinson. Wide body, powerful
- 1:46Speaker 8: interior offensive lineman, moves the line of scrimmage pretty well.
- 1:49Speaker 8: I am a little bit surprised, obviously a little bit
- 1:52Speaker 8: surprised that they took a guard, but that's besides the point.
- 1:54Speaker 8: I am a little bit surprised that he's not a
- 1:56Speaker 8: zone blocking guard. This is not an athletic you know,
- 2:00Speaker 8: each block, lateral moving interior lineman. This is more in
- 2:05Speaker 8: the MAFI on WHENU mold you know, I don't think
- 2:08Speaker 8: he's as quite as big as those two guys are,
- 2:11Speaker 8: but somebody that is definitely more of known for his
- 2:14Speaker 8: power and play strength and that sort of thing than
- 2:17Speaker 8: he is for being a super athlete. But with Javon Baker,
- 2:23Speaker 8: I mean to me that that's probably the best pick
- 2:25Speaker 8: of the draft outside of Drake May. I mean to
- 2:27Speaker 8: get Javon Baker here in the fourth round is a
- 2:31Speaker 8: really really good savvy pick. And it shows me that
- 2:35Speaker 8: a there's a plan of how to use Drake May's
- 2:39Speaker 8: skill set to the best of his abilities and be
- 2:42Speaker 8: It also shows me that those guys are watching some film,
- 2:44Speaker 8: because you don't draft a receiver that can play like
- 2:48Speaker 8: Baker from UCF that would transferred from Alabama and had
- 2:52Speaker 8: all kind of a journey here without being on it,
- 2:55Speaker 8: without knowing what you're looking at when it comes to
- 2:58Speaker 8: this position. And I think those two guys together, Polk
- 3:00Speaker 8: and Baker, what I would call them is is ball winners.
- 3:04Speaker 8: They're both guys that can win in traffic, that can
- 3:06Speaker 8: win contested catches and have really good catch radiuses. And
- 3:10Speaker 8: if you have a quarterback that's not pinpoint, it's really
- 3:13Speaker 8: quarterback friendly to pair them with two guys that have
- 3:16Speaker 8: really good hands and really good ability to go outside
- 3:18Speaker 8: their frame and catch the football. So one inside kind
- 3:22Speaker 8: of inside outside guy in polk one true ex boundary
- 3:25Speaker 8: receiver and Baker they fit together nicely. There's you see
- 3:28Speaker 8: a lot of what they're going for here. I'm not
- 3:31Speaker 8: trying to tell you that you know it's Randy Moss
- 3:33Speaker 8: and Wes Welker just yet, but these two guys are
- 3:36Speaker 8: complimentary pieces to one another and complimentary to Drake May
- 3:39Speaker 8: as well.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Can I just say one more thing too, like this
- 3:41Speaker 6: was something was bugging me last night where you know,
- 3:42Speaker 6: I was thinking about my reaction to Polkan and I mean,
- 3:45Speaker 6: you can I don't know if I kind of gave
- 3:47Speaker 6: justice to how much I kind of liked him, but
- 3:49Speaker 6: I just don't want to put qualifiers on these guys,
- 3:51Speaker 6: Like I just feel like every time we talk about them,
- 3:53Speaker 6: you feel the necessity to say, well, you ran a
- 3:55Speaker 6: four to five. You know it's not a four. You know,
- 3:57Speaker 6: you point out kind of all the flaws. And it's
- 3:59Speaker 6: like I just getting so upset with like people in
- 4:02Speaker 6: my mentions who can't be happy right now, Like if
- 4:04Speaker 6: you can't be happy right now when you get some
- 4:06Speaker 6: new pieces like and you're instantly just you know, and
- 4:09Speaker 6: there are so many idiots and my mentions calling Drake
- 4:11Speaker 6: May mac Jones or they're calling Jalen Polk is the
- 4:15Speaker 6: next Nikhil Harry, and it's like buy a clue. People
- 4:17Speaker 6: like these are nothing like those players. You're just angry
- 4:19Speaker 6: to be angry, and like, right now, just take a
- 4:21Speaker 6: little bit at a time to say, you know what,
- 4:24Speaker 6: these are young kids living their dream right now, and yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 6: maybe they're not perfect, and but I'm not going to
- 4:28Speaker 6: point out the qualifiers anymore. I'm excited for both these receivers.
- 4:31Speaker 6: They talked about weaponizing the offense, and I think that
- 4:33Speaker 6: that's what they're doing.
- 4:34Speaker 5: They probably like five or six Blue Chippers in this draft,
- 4:39Speaker 5: so everybody after that is you know.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Well in Fred you just never know, and how many
- 4:44Speaker 6: of these people are like, well, the only people that
- 4:45Speaker 6: end up being stars are the people that have a
- 4:47Speaker 6: four to three.
- 4:47Speaker 7: They're the six to two.
- 4:48Speaker 6: They're the perfect size they have, you know, they can
- 4:50Speaker 6: get off the line, they could, you know, like nobody's perfect.
- 4:52Speaker 6: There's so many superstars in this league that were coming
- 4:55Speaker 6: out that were full the only run of four to five.
- 4:56Speaker 6: You know, they have those qualifiers, and I just I
- 4:59Speaker 6: don't really want to hear we're all about that today.
- 5:01Speaker 6: I think those are both players that should have been
- 5:02Speaker 6: on their radar. They were on their radar, they selected them.
- 5:04Speaker 6: So if you're a Patriots fan right now, I think
- 5:06Speaker 6: that you should finally be excited. And I got I
- 5:08Speaker 6: have heard some of those people who have said, look,
- 5:10Speaker 6: I was looking off the ledge the last couple of months,
- 5:14Speaker 6: and now I feel like there's something there. And I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 6: if you can't look at Drake May these two receivers,
- 5:19Speaker 6: you know, I just I feel bad for you because
- 5:20Speaker 6: this is the time where I don't know, maybe they
- 5:23Speaker 6: don't work out and reality smacks us in the face
- 5:25Speaker 6: when we get to training camp. But for right now,
- 5:27Speaker 6: I'm really excited.
- 5:27Speaker 7: About these guys.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Love it.
- 5:29Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just I'm really excited about that.
- 5:31Speaker 8: Ram I couldn't agree more though. I mean I tried
- 5:35Speaker 8: after they took Polk because I think people here contested
- 5:38Speaker 8: catch and jump balls, and I don't call if he's
- 5:41Speaker 8: a jump ball receiver. I don't think that's the right
- 5:43Speaker 8: way to phrase it with Jalen Polk at all. I
- 5:45Speaker 8: think he's an in traffic receiver because he works the
- 5:47Speaker 8: middle of the field all the time, you know, so
- 5:50Speaker 8: he's always got bodies around him and people around him,
- 5:53Speaker 8: and as talented as Pennix is, you know, Penix is
- 5:56Speaker 8: a really similar quarterback to Drake May where when you're
- 5:59Speaker 8: actually going break down actual ball placement on throws, those
- 6:03Speaker 8: throws can sometimes be a little behind, a little high,
- 6:06Speaker 8: you know, a little off target a little and Polk
- 6:08Speaker 8: is one of those guys that just snatches everything, you.
- 6:11Speaker 6: Know, like laying out like vertical, you know, And that
- 6:13Speaker 6: was you know, I think when they made the pick
- 6:15Speaker 6: last night, he gets so concerned with like I got
- 6:17Speaker 6: to write a thing real quick, I got to run
- 6:18Speaker 6: over there, and yeah, it's a good pick. I like it,
- 6:20Speaker 6: but you know, and then I got home last night
- 6:22Speaker 6: and I went back and I started looking at the stuff,
- 6:24Speaker 6: like I said when I first looked at him, and
- 6:25Speaker 6: I'm like, I really like this kid. Like I just
- 6:28Speaker 6: think he's a football player. He's tough, he finishes runs.
- 6:31Speaker 6: There's a good video of Steve Smith breaking him down.
- 6:32Speaker 6: If Steve Smith likes a receiver, there's a good chance
- 6:35Speaker 6: he's got some.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Twenty eleven Super Bowl against the Giants. He makes that
- 6:39Speaker 5: catch that Welker didn't.
- 6:43Speaker 6: You know, honestly, friend, I mean some of those catches
- 6:45Speaker 6: Jalen Polk.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I mean, I.
- 6:46Speaker 6: I like he's he's he's exciting like that. I mean,
- 6:49Speaker 6: just you know, there's so many there's some juice out there,
- 6:51Speaker 6: like there's gonna be some like whoa moments, I think.
- 6:53Speaker 7: I mean, I really like Baker too. There's a lot
- 6:57Speaker 7: of things I actually like about Baker's profile, even more
- 7:01Speaker 7: so than Polk. To be honest with you, but I
- 7:03Speaker 7: think everything Mike said I would echo in that you
- 7:08Speaker 7: needed to find some wide receivers and they didn't have
- 7:12Speaker 7: the luxury. We got an ask PFW in the mail
- 7:15Speaker 7: bag today saying, I can't believe they let everybody go
- 7:18Speaker 7: by again without taking wide receivers. And I'm like, they
- 7:23Speaker 7: had to take a quarterback at three? Okay, now I
- 7:26Speaker 7: understand you could have taken Marvin Harrison at three, or
- 7:29Speaker 7: you could have taken Elik Neighbors at three. Fine, Now
- 7:33Speaker 7: you have that stud number one, no questions asked. Even
- 7:36Speaker 7: Mike can identify he's a one, right, But you don't
- 7:40Speaker 7: have a quarterback, So what's the difference? And then you're
- 7:46Speaker 7: gonna be bitching about they let everyone. They let six
- 7:49Speaker 7: quarterbacks get taken in the first round, and they let
- 7:51Speaker 7: the parade go by and they didn't take one. So like,
- 7:53Speaker 7: that's why I would echo Mike's point, like, if you
- 7:56Speaker 7: can't be at least hopeful, you don't want to be happy.
- 8:00Speaker 7: Don't be happy, you know, just be miserable. But if
- 8:03Speaker 7: you can't be hopeful today as a Patriots fan, and say,
- 8:05Speaker 7: they got a new coaching staff in regime in place,
- 8:09Speaker 7: they have a new quarterback that they introduced yesterday. They
- 8:13Speaker 7: have a couple of new wide receivers that they've taken
- 8:15Speaker 7: that you know, we'll see if they If you can't
- 8:17Speaker 7: at least have hope, then maybe you should try to
- 8:20Speaker 7: figure out another another thing.
- 8:22Speaker 5: If you can't have hope, you don't want to have hope.
- 8:24Speaker 7: That's my point. Actively I'm not trying to tell you
- 8:29Speaker 7: that they just drafted to all pros and you know
- 8:31Speaker 7: it's going to be you know, Isaac, but they drafted
- 8:37Speaker 7: two guys that have good skill sets and they have
- 8:41Speaker 7: a new quarterback. If they can't play, they're going to
- 8:44Speaker 7: have to do it again. Like we all get it.
- 8:47Speaker 7: You know, there's no guarantees in the draft. We understand,
- 8:49Speaker 7: you know, there's a lot of you know, Elliott Wolf
- 8:53Speaker 7: keeps saying, we want to be a draft and developing team, right,
- 8:55Speaker 7: draft and development, Well, they're drafting guys, now they have
- 8:59Speaker 7: to develop them. That's that's That's how you get to
- 9:02Speaker 7: be a draft and development team is you have to
- 9:04Speaker 7: do both. And I think that's really where they've fallen
- 9:08Speaker 7: off over the last you know, decade or so. I
- 9:12Speaker 7: think they've drafted some decent players and they haven't really
- 9:15Speaker 7: been able to develop them as much as you might want. Yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 7: I would.
- 9:18Speaker 6: I would just say another up point too. You know,
- 9:21Speaker 6: I think Cayden Wallace, you know, there's some questions last
- 9:23Speaker 6: night about you know, I know he said he could
- 9:25Speaker 6: play left tackle, and you know, Olufashanu was there, and
- 9:29Speaker 6: you know, Leyden Robinson. You know, I'm not gonna lie
- 9:31Speaker 6: like guard I was what, you know. But I think
- 9:34Speaker 6: when you look at the entirety of chuk Sa Kora
- 9:37Speaker 6: for Robinson, Wallace, the guys last year, you know, they're
- 9:41Speaker 6: really throwing it all at the wall. And I feel
- 9:43Speaker 6: the same way about the wide receiver position. That competition
- 9:46Speaker 6: is going to be intense. And you know, I don't
- 9:47Speaker 6: know what Vederian low or why they traded for Tyrone Wheatley,
- 9:51Speaker 6: but they're guys that are going to be out there
- 9:52Speaker 6: competing and we'll see how it all kind of all
- 9:54Speaker 6: comes together. They're going to try to build that protection,
- 9:57Speaker 6: to get it in place and to get it right
- 9:59Speaker 6: before it's time to put Drake May in there.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, listen, all you know, since the
- 10:04Speaker 5: end of the season, we've been saying they need this,
- 10:06Speaker 5: they need that. Well, they're getting this in that it's
- 10:08Speaker 5: all offense. And the other thing is it tells you
- 10:13Speaker 5: it confirms what we thought. This wide receiver room isn't
- 10:16Speaker 5: that great, you know, and so they just picked up
- 10:19Speaker 5: two wide receivers. We we thought this offensive line isn't
- 10:24Speaker 5: that great, and we knew they need to tackle, but
- 10:27Speaker 5: they just picked up a guard too, and that should
- 10:30Speaker 5: you know, again the old saying, don't look at what
- 10:32Speaker 5: they say, look at what they do. Maybe you know
- 10:35Speaker 5: they're not as enamored with, you know, all these guards
- 10:38Speaker 5: that they have.
- 10:39Speaker 6: You know, if you're one of these guys that has
- 10:41Speaker 6: been you know, kind of a disappointment draft pick or
- 10:44Speaker 6: free agent, and I mean I'll say, you know Cole Strange, uh,
- 10:47Speaker 6: Taekwon Thornton, you know, Juju Smith, Schuster, probably the Big three,
- 10:50Speaker 6: like all those guys are kind of unnoticed right now.
- 10:52Speaker 6: I mean it's it's it's.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Every one of those guys.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I mean, but I mean those guy
- 10:58Speaker 6: Thornton's second round pick, you know, Cole's Rae first round pick.
- 11:00Speaker 6: You know, Juju was kind of the crown jewel the
- 11:02Speaker 6: last offseason.
- 11:03Speaker 7: You know, so all those.
- 11:04Speaker 6: Guys that that were really big pieces. It's like, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 6: what's their mindset? Like round what what's Juju Smith Schuster
- 11:09Speaker 6: thinking right now?
- 11:10Speaker 7: Is he ready to?
- 11:10Speaker 6: Like, Man, I'm gonna have to bust my ass and
- 11:12Speaker 6: get out here and take my game to another level.
- 11:14Speaker 6: Like I don't know if Juju's got that gear still
- 11:16Speaker 6: in him, but yeah, everybody's gonna have to get you now.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Going forward, the Patriots don't have a fifth round pick,
- 11:20Speaker 5: so you know, the sixth and seventh round guys, I'm
- 11:22Speaker 5: sure it's just you know who's on our board. Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 5: there'll be some.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 5: I don't think the position means as much as how
- 11:28Speaker 5: they had these guys valued. Once we get, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 5: into the sixth round. But I think these these players
- 11:34Speaker 5: that they picked rounds one through four, I think are
- 11:39Speaker 5: positions you know, that they felt they needed to upgrade
- 11:42Speaker 5: thousand percent.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Yeah, And let's face it, if Drake May is who
- 11:45Speaker 8: we all think he might be, then none of the
- 11:47Speaker 8: other picks in the draft really matter, right. You know,
- 11:50Speaker 8: if Drake May.
- 11:51Speaker 5: He hits, it doesn't matter.
- 11:52Speaker 8: If he's a franchise quarterback and he's as good as
- 11:55Speaker 8: I think he could be, then whether we took Jalen
- 11:59Speaker 8: Polk over Lad Conky three years from now, I don't
- 12:02Speaker 8: think any of us are really going to be losing
- 12:03Speaker 8: sleep over it, right, And I think that's ultimately what
- 12:06Speaker 8: it's all coming down to, is that Drake May was
- 12:09Speaker 8: not a coin flip decision that was a no brainer easy.
- 12:12Speaker 8: This is what we're doing some of the second round
- 12:15Speaker 8: and third round guys, I would say, we're coin flip
- 12:17Speaker 8: decisions that you know, the Chargers took Lad McConkie, the
- 12:20Speaker 8: Patriots took Jalen polk, that those two guys careers are
- 12:24Speaker 8: going to be compared for the rest of the time.
- 12:26Speaker 8: You know, if Lad McConkie goes on to be Cooper
- 12:28Speaker 8: Cup and Jalen Polk goes on to be nothing, then
- 12:32Speaker 8: this regime is gonna have to face the music on that.
- 12:34Speaker 8: You know that that's That's that's where the draft gets interesting.
- 12:38Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's what I like about the draft because
- 12:40Speaker 7: you do have those comps and we would go back,
- 12:42Speaker 7: you know, two years, and it's Taekwon, Thwhnton and then
- 12:46Speaker 7: it's George Pickens, sky Moore, Alec Pearce, and I would
- 12:50Speaker 7: say all three of those guys, even though I would
- 12:52Speaker 7: say doesn't take much, but they've dwarfed, but they've gotten
- 12:58Speaker 7: out of of Taekwon't even those more I think has
- 13:00Speaker 7: been kind of quiet. Yeah, you're gonna have the same
- 13:05Speaker 7: kind of stuff ed night. Mitchell is the guy that
- 13:07Speaker 7: I would watch, and we talked about it at nauseum
- 13:09Speaker 7: last night about the red flags, and I'm going to
- 13:11Speaker 7: trust that the red flags are the reason why everybody
- 13:15Speaker 7: didn't take him until he went to what in the fifties,
- 13:18Speaker 7: I think, to the Colts. So if it turns out
- 13:21Speaker 7: to be it's strictly a situation with his medical issues
- 13:26Speaker 7: and he's having a hard time, that's going to get fixed.
- 13:29Speaker 7: The NFL will fix that. If you know, if he
- 13:31Speaker 7: wants to be fit, if you know, if he wants
- 13:33Speaker 7: if he wants to, you know, figure out how to
- 13:35Speaker 7: be the best he can be, then that's going to
- 13:38Speaker 7: get fixed at the NFL level. That's something that that's
- 13:40Speaker 7: worth the second guess because he definitely had more talent
- 13:43Speaker 7: than the guys that were taking before him. Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 8: Yeah, And I would also say with Caden Wallace, the
- 13:49Speaker 8: consensus b is before the draft would tell you that
- 13:52Speaker 8: he was a reach. But I would also mention that
- 13:55Speaker 8: thirteen offensive tackles went before the Patriots pick at sixty eight,
- 14:00Speaker 8: So at some point if they were gonna address offensive
- 14:03Speaker 8: tackle with a premium pick, they had to pick somebody
- 14:06Speaker 8: because there was nobody left by the time he got
- 14:08Speaker 8: to like midway through the third round, So that was
- 14:11Speaker 8: the guy they ended up picking. Are we getting second
- 14:14Speaker 8: guess that too? Maybe a little bit. If he ends
- 14:16Speaker 8: up being a guard or he ends up being a
- 14:18Speaker 8: not really making it in the league, then yeah, absolutely.
- 14:21Speaker 8: But you know, I've heard that a lot, and I
- 14:23Speaker 8: understand it was a reach based off of the consensus
- 14:27Speaker 8: of the media. Now does that matter that a bunch
- 14:30Speaker 8: of media people had him as the one hundred and
- 14:32Speaker 8: eightieth player in the draft and the Patriots took him
- 14:34Speaker 8: at sixty eight. I guess we'll find out.
- 14:36Speaker 6: I mean, wouldn't you say too Evan that that media
- 14:39Speaker 6: evaluating these prospects offensive line probably the hardest, like compared
- 14:43Speaker 6: at least to wide receiver. It's a lot harder for
- 14:45Speaker 6: someone who isn't a trained NFL scout, you know, in
- 14:49Speaker 6: some capacity, to identify what a great tackle looks like,
- 14:52Speaker 6: in what feet looked like that could play the left
- 14:55Speaker 6: side to it, you know, like those like it's easy
- 14:57Speaker 6: for you know, amateur scout, no disrespect to us, you know,
- 15:00Speaker 6: do it. But aren't you know, officially trained. Like it's
- 15:03Speaker 6: easy to look at a wide receiver and be like,
- 15:05Speaker 6: this guy can run, he's a great catch it. You know,
- 15:07Speaker 6: like that's easy.
- 15:07Speaker 7: But to watch a guarter attack.
- 15:09Speaker 5: Hard, Well, I don't know if it's harder. I mean
- 15:11Speaker 5: I think they look at this guy. I think they
- 15:14Speaker 5: look at guards and they say, does he have the size,
- 15:17Speaker 5: does he have the technique? If you can do that,
- 15:19Speaker 5: then we can coach him.
- 15:20Speaker 6: Yeah, well then teams do. But I just like, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 6: where do these consensuses come from? And I mean, and
- 15:25Speaker 6: I totally agree with Evan, like it's just hard. We'll
- 15:28Speaker 6: see how they work out. You've got a lot of guys.
- 15:29Speaker 6: I mean, I still I still think there's a chance, Michael,
- 15:32Speaker 6: and when you ends up back inside, like I know
- 15:34Speaker 6: they said he's he's the right tackle right now, but
- 15:37Speaker 6: I just think he said it's better than.
- 15:38Speaker 7: So, Paul, who is this guy? Hey, Matt Morrell, are
- 15:40Speaker 7: you watching in there? See you in there? All right?
- 15:45Speaker 7: I think that's the what's up brother guy on on
- 15:48Speaker 7: TikTok if I'm if I'm not, I'm not.
- 15:50Speaker 6: On TikTok like you, PAULA.
- 15:52Speaker 7: Well, I you know, I do not even well, no,
- 15:55Speaker 7: it's illegal. I don't know, right, I don't even have
- 15:58Speaker 7: I don't even have the app. But you know, kids
- 16:00Speaker 7: are always doing it. What's up? You know, check Tuesday,
- 16:02Speaker 7: Check Tuesday. So the guy, Yeah, I think that's the guy.
- 16:06Speaker 7: I'm not. I'm not possitible.
- 16:07Speaker 6: You got kids that are doing this.
- 16:09Speaker 8: The one guy that I that, Yeah, that's the guy,
- 16:13Speaker 8: the one guy that I really trust in the draft
- 16:15Speaker 8: community from the media side of things with offensive lineman
- 16:17Speaker 8: his lands there line because his dad coached offensive lineman
- 16:20Speaker 8: in the NFL, and he had a fourth round grade
- 16:23Speaker 8: on on Kitten Wallace and I said that, you know,
- 16:26Speaker 8: his projection with his grade is that he will be
- 16:29Speaker 8: will eventually be an average starter in the NFL.
- 16:32Speaker 7: See I'm okay third round. Going to the most Sunshine
- 16:36Speaker 7: dot Com comment of all time, I'm okay with a
- 16:39Speaker 7: reach in the offensive line, you know, like in the middle,
- 16:42Speaker 7: like Cole Strange. Four rounds, five rounds with a first
- 16:46Speaker 7: round pick. I'm not okay with that. Yeah, But if
- 16:48Speaker 7: you want to tell me he was a fourth round
- 16:49Speaker 7: pick or a fifth round pick and you took him
- 16:51Speaker 7: in the third round, I'm okay with that. I'm a
- 16:54Speaker 7: little less okay with a lot of the stuff about
- 16:57Speaker 7: Polk that he could have been you know, fifth, the
- 17:00Speaker 7: seventy picks later. But I'm fine because I look at it,
- 17:04Speaker 7: and again, this is a Sunshine dot Com take, I
- 17:06Speaker 7: admit it, but I'm looking at it as you have
- 17:09Speaker 7: needs that you wanted to fill. I thought Chris Gasper
- 17:12Speaker 7: made a good point this morning as I was driving in.
- 17:14Speaker 7: He talked about Drake May is kind of like that
- 17:17Speaker 7: swing for the fence's kind of pick. I mean, everybody
- 17:20Speaker 7: knows all the ways that he can be a home run, right, Well,
- 17:24Speaker 7: this guy Polk is a little bit safer, like if
- 17:28Speaker 7: he really hits, he's probably not going to be a
- 17:30Speaker 7: home run, but he's going to hit a lot of
- 17:32Speaker 7: doubles and he's going to be a really good player
- 17:35Speaker 7: for you. And there's probably a better chance that he
- 17:38Speaker 7: maybe he is a singles hitter than he's a bust
- 17:42Speaker 7: And you know the kind of couple you know, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 7: a big swing for the big talent quarterback with a steady,
- 17:48Speaker 7: reliable physical as you guys have described a good football player.
- 17:53Speaker 7: I think Baker can be really good. I think Baker
- 17:55Speaker 7: has really good skill. I think Polk is really just solid.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:01Speaker 7: Now, one of the things that Gash besaid that kind
- 18:03Speaker 7: of worried me. I don't know if you guys feel
- 18:04Speaker 7: like this. He thought Jade McMillan was better, and maybe
- 18:08Speaker 7: Polk's production got bumped up because of all the time
- 18:11Speaker 7: that McMillan missed.
- 18:12Speaker 8: So McMillan's faster. I don't know if that necessarily he's not.
- 18:15Speaker 8: His hands are not as good, but McMillan ran like
- 18:18Speaker 8: a four four seven and plays faster on tabe. He's
- 18:21Speaker 8: more explosive on film. But I had all these guys,
- 18:25Speaker 8: Lad McConkie, Roman, Wilson, Polk, McMillan, even Ricky Piersall who
- 18:30Speaker 8: went at the end of the first round. I had
- 18:32Speaker 8: them all graded in the same tier. Now, if I
- 18:35Speaker 8: was running the Patriots board and they told me you
- 18:37Speaker 8: had to pick a receiver at thirty seven, would I
- 18:39Speaker 8: have picked Jalen Polk? Probably not, But that was their guy.
- 18:43Speaker 8: You know that their guy was Polk. My guy probably
- 18:46Speaker 8: would have been somebody different, but they they went with
- 18:49Speaker 8: their guy, And I can't say that it was We
- 18:52Speaker 8: were worlds apart in terms of how we saw the
- 18:55Speaker 8: player like they was a very I saw him as
- 18:57Speaker 8: a day too guy that was right in that tier
- 18:59Speaker 8: with those other guys that were starting to fly off
- 19:01Speaker 8: the board at that point, and they took their swing
- 19:03Speaker 8: on their guy, and I can respect that.
- 19:05Speaker 7: I just think that me too. Yeah, I just that's
- 19:08Speaker 7: kind of how I felt about it. I just think, yeah, yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 7: maybe he had a better player, but I.
- 19:14Speaker 8: Liked I would have taken Troy Franklin probably, which would
- 19:16Speaker 8: have been way too soon, apparently.
- 19:18Speaker 7: Yeah. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get
- 19:21Speaker 7: my guy, only because I kind of liked him. But
- 19:23Speaker 7: Baker and Franklin, those are the two guys that I
- 19:25Speaker 7: I started hearing about late that they had in for
- 19:28Speaker 7: the thirty visits and I'm glad they got one of
- 19:30Speaker 7: those guys.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say, it's just you know, when I
- 19:33Speaker 6: went back last night looking a little bit of Polk,
- 19:35Speaker 6: I mean, it's it's it's an apt comparison. I mean, jee,
- 19:38Speaker 6: Doug Kidehos went to Washington, he washes Washington kind of
- 19:40Speaker 6: had some similar tweets that I did. I was thinking
- 19:42Speaker 6: about the last night, and like he plays similar to
- 19:44Speaker 6: a Dunsa, Like a Dunsay is just like if someone
- 19:46Speaker 6: pumped up Jalen Polk for like another couple inches and
- 19:49Speaker 6: another like twenty pounds, which is just like you know,
- 19:51Speaker 6: a Dunsay is like a freak. But a lot of
- 19:53Speaker 6: the catches that you see Polk make, it's not it
- 19:57Speaker 6: exists in a bubble. It's not because you know what
- 19:59Speaker 6: I mean, he's going up getting crazy catch and he's
- 20:01Speaker 6: holding onto to the ground, he's popping right back up.
- 20:04Speaker 6: He's just he's one of those guys. The whole vibe
- 20:06Speaker 6: I get from him, it's just this guy loves the game.
- 20:08Speaker 6: You look at like his history, I mean, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 6: I know the comp to Jacoby Myers, who was a quarterback.
- 20:13Speaker 6: This kid got offered by Illinois after his freshman after
- 20:16Speaker 6: he made the team in East Texas, which is we
- 20:18Speaker 6: all know what the football is like there, got offered
- 20:20Speaker 6: by Illinois after his freshman year. He's a star in
- 20:22Speaker 6: seven on seven. So everything that we talk about the
- 20:24Speaker 6: evolution of the league and how there's just an explosion
- 20:27Speaker 6: of wide receivers like, this kid has been on the
- 20:30Speaker 6: forefront of all of that. So it's as much as
- 20:32Speaker 6: people say, Jacoby Myers, I just don't love the comp
- 20:35Speaker 6: because I feel like this kid is a pure receiver
- 20:37Speaker 6: and he plays the game like a receiver, and he
- 20:40Speaker 6: runs hard, he finishes plays. So I'm willing to I said,
- 20:43Speaker 6: I said earlier, I'm willing to die on the Jalen
- 20:45Speaker 6: Polk hill now after the last time, I'm like, I
- 20:47Speaker 6: came into milk toast on him. I gotta be honest,
- 20:49Speaker 6: it's just, you know, and I don't know what I'm watching.
- 20:51Speaker 6: I just I've been doing this for a while though.
- 20:52Speaker 6: I'm going to go, but I'm going to defend you.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I don't think you a milk toaster. I thought both
- 20:56Speaker 6: of you guys were very high on Polk last night.
- 20:58Speaker 6: I hope it came a credit. Get rid of reiterating
- 21:01Speaker 6: a lot of the same thing.
- 21:02Speaker 8: I think the big thing for a lot of Patriotons
- 21:04Speaker 8: and myself included in my gut when they made the pick,
- 21:07Speaker 8: was like number two receiver, right, And that's for a
- 21:11Speaker 8: team that's been searching for the white whale for five
- 21:14Speaker 8: six years now. Of that stud number one receiver, whether
- 21:18Speaker 8: it's inside, outside, tight end, whatever, it doesn't make a difference, right,
- 21:22Speaker 8: just that number one playmaker, that coverage dictating player. I
- 21:25Speaker 8: don't necessarily think Jalen Polk is that. I think Jalen
- 21:28Speaker 8: Polk is the possession receiver that's gonna move the chains,
- 21:31Speaker 8: it's gonna make the tough catches, it's gonna be the
- 21:33Speaker 8: gritty guy in the middle of the field, and is
- 21:36Speaker 8: gonna be a high volume guy. But not necessarily in
- 21:40Speaker 8: that tier of Jamar Chase, you know, Aj Brown, those
- 21:44Speaker 8: types of guys. But as it kind of soaked in
- 21:46Speaker 8: a little bit, I was like, well, did I really
- 21:48Speaker 8: expect them to get that guy at thirty seven?
- 21:50Speaker 9: Right?
- 21:50Speaker 8: You know that that's I had maybe those in this draft, right,
- 21:54Speaker 8: and maybe Brian Thomas Junior, who went twenty picks before
- 21:57Speaker 8: Jalen Polk did. So, did I really think that that
- 21:59Speaker 8: was gonna happen and in this draft that they were
- 22:01Speaker 8: going to be able to address quarterback and wide receiver.
- 22:04Speaker 8: And me come away from that saying, they have Joe
- 22:06Speaker 8: Burrow to tomorrow and.
- 22:07Speaker 5: They pull off some trade for either Samuel or you know, uh,
- 22:12Speaker 5: are you now let's go? Let's go?
- 22:16Speaker 6: Well, I would say, I mean, in my opinion, I
- 22:18Speaker 6: think that the trade that that that's pasted.
- 22:20Speaker 7: I don't think that there. Yeah, I'm a little less
- 22:22Speaker 7: in on that.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Yeah, well, yeah, they don't have the assets they'd have
- 22:25Speaker 5: to go into next year.
- 22:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 8: The other thing with Jacoby Myers, I don't hate the
- 22:29Speaker 8: comp because the one thing that I always thought that
- 22:32Speaker 8: was really weird about all their misses at receiver were
- 22:35Speaker 8: that they had guys like Jacoby Myers who were udfa's
- 22:38Speaker 8: or late round picks that were the ones that actually
- 22:41Speaker 8: work out, like Pop Douglas right too. And yet in
- 22:44Speaker 8: the early rounds when they draft receivers, they draft totally
- 22:48Speaker 8: different guys from the ones that work here. You know,
- 22:50Speaker 8: they draft Taekwon Thornton, or they drafted Nikhil Harry and
- 22:53Speaker 8: you're like, but the shifty, smart, savvy hands catching receiver,
- 22:59Speaker 8: Jacoby Myers is the one that works, So why are
- 23:01Speaker 8: you drafting the four to two guy that can only
- 23:04Speaker 8: run in a straight line. To me, Jalen Polk is
- 23:07Speaker 8: like if Jacoby Myers had a second round profile in
- 23:10Speaker 8: the draft. You know, if you had like a souped
- 23:12Speaker 8: up Jacoby Myers. I thought felt the same way about
- 23:15Speaker 8: Jalen McMillan, both Washington guys. So even though he's a
- 23:19Speaker 8: better prospect and a better player than Jacoby was coming out,
- 23:23Speaker 8: if he's in, you know, a little bit better version
- 23:26Speaker 8: of Jacoby Myers, and then that's a really good pick.
- 23:28Speaker 5: YEP Web Radio at Patriots dot com is the email
- 23:31Speaker 5: address eight five to five past five hundred, Ford and Savannah,
- 23:34Speaker 5: Georgia writes in thanks for the amazing coverage and entertainment.
- 23:39Speaker 5: While I like poke at wide receiver, I also got
- 23:42Speaker 5: a sinking feeling when we passed on a number one
- 23:44Speaker 5: wide receiver in Fred's guy, Lad McConkey. I'm a lifelong
- 23:48Speaker 5: Patriots fan who has lived in Savannah for the past
- 23:50Speaker 5: sixteen years. I'll admit brock Bauers opened things up for
- 23:53Speaker 5: Ladd and also admit to not watching every single Washington
- 23:57Speaker 5: game like I have every Georgia game. But Ladd is
- 23:59Speaker 5: an insight outside receiver with all the trades who seem
- 24:02Speaker 5: always magically open Puka Puka nikua style. My theory on
- 24:07Speaker 5: the trade down as is it was a scouting blind
- 24:11Speaker 5: spot to try and make impressive fourth round picks while
- 24:14Speaker 5: undervaluing picks closer to the top. Please tell me I'm
- 24:17Speaker 5: wrong and I'm just suffering from former wide receiver PTSD
- 24:21Speaker 5: picks in the Patriots draft.
- 24:22Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I had, Like I said earlier, I
- 24:24Speaker 8: had Lad McConkie and Jalen Polk in the same tier.
- 24:27Speaker 8: So I don't view Lad McConkie as a number one receiver.
- 24:30Speaker 8: I think Lad McConkie was a number one receiver in
- 24:32Speaker 8: color is a high end number two receiver as a
- 24:35Speaker 8: ceiling in the same way that Jalen Polk has a
- 24:37Speaker 8: ceiling as a high end number two receiver. They're very
- 24:41Speaker 8: different players. You know, Lad McConkie was the bursty, explosive technician.
- 24:46Speaker 8: Jalen Polk is the tough, gritty hands catcher, runs over
- 24:49Speaker 8: the middle, does all the dirty things. That's a stylistic preference.
- 24:55Speaker 8: You know, if you if you wanted the guy that
- 24:57Speaker 8: created a lot of separation at the top of the
- 25:00Speaker 8: then you're into Lad McConkey. The Patriots were into a
- 25:03Speaker 8: guy that has a little bit more place, right, a
- 25:04Speaker 8: little bit more grit to him and toughness.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's and then going back to last night,
- 25:08Speaker 6: we were kind of talking about the contested catch guys
- 25:11Speaker 6: and you know, you're like, I, this is what this
- 25:13Speaker 6: is what I prefer, you know, like this is just stylistically,
- 25:15Speaker 6: I'd rather than like a six to four guy who's
- 25:17Speaker 6: just gonna go down the field that like, I want
- 25:19Speaker 6: guys with the ball in their hands that finish plays,
- 25:21Speaker 6: that are tough, that can make the tough catches, and.
- 25:24Speaker 7: I would probably split it in the middle. And I
- 25:26Speaker 7: understand exactly what you're talking about, Mike, And to go
- 25:29Speaker 7: back to what the what Evan was talking about a
- 25:31Speaker 7: little while ago, there's a reason. Yeah, like there's a
- 25:36Speaker 7: lot of those guys with that profile that have worked
- 25:39Speaker 7: for New England and you're like, well, why don't they
- 25:41Speaker 7: just take more because you don't need to take those
- 25:43Speaker 7: guys early in the draft because you can get them,
- 25:46Speaker 7: you know when you get them. Now, what gets lost
- 25:49Speaker 7: sometimes in New England is it worked with Welker, who
- 25:53Speaker 7: they acquired. It worked when they drafted Julian Edelman in
- 25:56Speaker 7: the seventh round. They made the transition and it worked.
- 25:59Speaker 7: I would say largely with Jacoby Myers as an undrafted guy.
- 26:03Speaker 7: There's a dozen I could rattle off for you that
- 26:05Speaker 7: didn't work. Oh yeah, but that's where you get those
- 26:08Speaker 7: guys because you don't have to draft them. You don't
- 26:11Speaker 7: have to draft him with high picks. But if you want,
- 26:14Speaker 7: as Evan used it perfectly as an example, if you
- 26:17Speaker 7: want a guy who does everything like Jamar Chase, you
- 26:20Speaker 7: gotta pay for that. You gotta draft him high. And like,
- 26:24Speaker 7: so I understand Mike's point, like I don't want the
- 26:26Speaker 7: cit I don't want Devonte Parker. Yeah, okay, yeah, DeVante
- 26:30Speaker 7: Parker is a guy who this full disclosure, I absolutely
- 26:33Speaker 7: loved Devontae Parker coming out of Louisville. I think he
- 26:36Speaker 7: went with like the fourteenth pick.
- 26:38Speaker 8: He wasn't more explosive to Miami.
- 26:40Speaker 7: I loved him. I wanted him so bad. I was
- 26:43Speaker 7: pissed when Miami got him. I thought he was pretty
- 26:46Speaker 7: good for Miami and then he just was always hurt
- 26:50Speaker 7: and I was like, this guy's no good like, I
- 26:53Speaker 7: don't want a six or four guy who can't separate
- 26:55Speaker 7: and only wins jump balls and only makes contestic catches.
- 26:58Speaker 7: He makes plenty of plays, and every once in a
- 26:59Speaker 7: while he has great games. He had a great game
- 27:02Speaker 7: against the Patriots to knock him out of the bye week,
- 27:05Speaker 7: you know, back in twenty nineteen, remember that one. But
- 27:09Speaker 7: he's not consistent enough to be a fourteenth overall pick
- 27:12Speaker 7: of the draft.
- 27:12Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 6: The other thing I just drew a quick fight just
- 27:14Speaker 6: that I like about these two receivers is that they're
- 27:16Speaker 6: both like six to one and change to ten. I mean, they're.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Athletic, not that slight.
- 27:22Speaker 6: I got good size, and they're not big guys, but
- 27:25Speaker 6: they got good thickness, good size. I like the dimensions
- 27:28Speaker 6: of both of them.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Wan in Mexico says, with the wide receiver picks and
- 27:32Speaker 5: with pop and Born, are they trying to be similar
- 27:35Speaker 5: to the Packers' philosophy with a bunch of good wide
- 27:37Speaker 5: receivers without a true number one.
- 27:40Speaker 8: I don't think that that's a philosophy. I don't think
- 27:42Speaker 8: that's the actual goal. I just think that's the way
- 27:44Speaker 8: the board fell for them. After taking the quarterback.
- 27:47Speaker 11: They tried to get Calvin Ridley, remember, yeah, you know, Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 11: but I do think that Polk Baker, I think those
- 27:54Speaker 11: guys are very very Green Bayy, just in terms of
- 27:57Speaker 11: their skill sets and their profiles and things.
- 28:00Speaker 7: There's a guy that I was thinking of last night,
- 28:02Speaker 7: and I think I saw Greg Bodard tweet about it,
- 28:06Speaker 7: Jordy Nelson. Yeah, is there any do you have any
- 28:10Speaker 7: Jordy Nelson because I don't really look at Polk as
- 28:12Speaker 7: Jordy Nelson, like I saw Greg write that last night,
- 28:15Speaker 7: and I've always thought of Jordy Nelson as kind.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Of explosive on the other Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I like Watson, who you talked about, not that
- 28:24Speaker 7: kind of speed, but.
- 28:24Speaker 8: Yeah, I like the comps that I've heard. You know,
- 28:28Speaker 8: Tyler Boyd better Jacobe Myers, you know, if you want
- 28:32Speaker 8: to go ceiling ceiling ceiling Keenan Allen Right, Like, I
- 28:35Speaker 8: likes the.
- 28:35Speaker 7: Tyler Boyd last night that Phil Perry had and that
- 28:37Speaker 7: was from a league executive that he supposedly got there from. Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 7: I liked that because I I Tyler Boyd's another guy
- 28:43Speaker 7: had a crush on coming out of Pit. I thought
- 28:46Speaker 7: he was a perfect Belichick kind of guy.
- 28:48Speaker 5: Yeah, you know.
- 28:48Speaker 6: I think that's part of why I was a little
- 28:51Speaker 6: bit frustrated last night, is that I said this before.
- 28:55Speaker 6: Comparison is the thief of joy, Like, you know, like
- 28:58Speaker 6: the second these guys are drafted, you got to put
- 29:00Speaker 6: him in a pre existing box. You got to put
- 29:02Speaker 6: an X Y Z one two three on him, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 6: and then you just instantly put him into a box.
- 29:06Speaker 6: And it's like, I just watch him. I don't have
- 29:08Speaker 6: to put him into a box. I like the way
- 29:09Speaker 6: that this two places.
- 29:10Speaker 7: You know, it's funny, exciting to happen, and I I understand,
- 29:13Speaker 7: like I love the cops, and I understand why they
- 29:16Speaker 7: do it makes it easy, right, Like this is what
- 29:19Speaker 7: you understand what I'm saying, Yeah, Tyler Boyd. So now
- 29:22Speaker 7: everybody says, oh, I know Tyler Boyd. The problem with
- 29:25Speaker 7: it is you might think Tyler Boyd is really good.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Someone else might think Tyler Boyd, that's it.
- 29:31Speaker 6: Right, that's that, and that's the ceiling right there of
- 29:34Speaker 6: what he's going to.
- 29:35Speaker 7: I think Tyler Boyd's had a really good NFL career.
- 29:37Speaker 7: I look at that as a real compliment, you know.
- 29:40Speaker 7: And then someone says high end, like Evan just did
- 29:42Speaker 7: Keenan Allen. I think Keenanell. Now, I know someone that
- 29:45Speaker 7: we work with who rarely wears socks, who thinks Keenan
- 29:48Speaker 7: Allen sucks.
- 29:50Speaker 8: It's bad.
- 29:52Speaker 7: He thinks he stinks. So like it's all in the beholder.
- 29:56Speaker 7: So like the cops, I get why they do them,
- 29:58Speaker 7: but sometimes they don't what you want them to do.
- 30:01Speaker 8: Yeah. I just think in terms of where he wins
- 30:03Speaker 8: on the field, the route that he runs, and I
- 30:05Speaker 8: know you get this. I'm just explaining it, you know.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Uh.
- 30:08Speaker 8: I think that's those are the types of guys that
- 30:11Speaker 8: he's not gonna run by people at four five two.
- 30:14Speaker 8: He's just not gonna be a burner that's gonna run
- 30:17Speaker 8: by people. But I think the thing that I keep
- 30:19Speaker 8: coming back to with both these guys is that they
- 30:22Speaker 8: drafted a quarterback who is not Tom Brady and Drew
- 30:24Speaker 8: Brees with accuracy like this is not a guy that's
- 30:27Speaker 8: gonna fit it through a keyhole. He's gonna throw it
- 30:29Speaker 8: generally in the right area of where the ball is
- 30:31Speaker 8: supposed to go. And Polk and Baker both have size,
- 30:35Speaker 8: they both have length, and they both have hands that
- 30:37Speaker 8: they can go ahead and if Drake May is a
- 30:39Speaker 8: little bit off, is the throws a little bit low,
- 30:41Speaker 8: then these guys are gonna go and get the ball.
- 30:44Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, yeah. Now, if Polk doesn't work, if he
- 30:47Speaker 7: doesn't work, is there any like Aaron Dobson kind of
- 30:51Speaker 7: vibe with Polk?
- 30:53Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 30:54Speaker 8: I really saw Aaron Dobson to me in this draft
- 30:56Speaker 8: was key on Coleman. Coleman had that one catch against
- 31:02Speaker 8: who was it? I think it was Miami, But I'm
- 31:04Speaker 8: blanking where he has one catch where he goes above
- 31:06Speaker 8: his head like there's one handed catch and pulls it
- 31:09Speaker 8: down and his teammates have like their hands on their
- 31:11Speaker 8: heads like holy crap. And that Aaron Dobson catch reminds me.
- 31:14Speaker 6: That big though I think Dousin seems stiff to me,
- 31:19Speaker 6: I don't.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:20Speaker 6: I just don't see that with Polk. They seem like
- 31:22Speaker 6: different players just the way they play the game. I
- 31:24Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 31:25Speaker 7: I said, if he doesn't.
- 31:26Speaker 6: Work, well, if he doesn't work, I don't really see
- 31:28Speaker 6: him being stiff. And you know, I think if he
- 31:30Speaker 6: doesn't work, yeah, I mean.
- 31:32Speaker 8: That that's if he doesn't work. The comp that I
- 31:36Speaker 8: would use if he doesn't work is Juju smith Suster
- 31:39Speaker 8: last year. Now there you go, right, I would see
- 31:41Speaker 8: that more. That's that's still okay. He can't run away
- 31:45Speaker 8: from anybody, ju you.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Know Belichick, you know he if a quarterback, they have
- 31:51Speaker 5: to be able to get open and catch the ball.
- 31:53Speaker 5: You know, guys that don't work generally, it's one of
- 31:56Speaker 5: those two things. They can't get open and when they
- 31:58Speaker 5: get open, they're they're dropping the balls.
- 32:01Speaker 6: Whether they physically can't get open mentally can't understand how
- 32:05Speaker 6: to get open. Yeah, you know, And I think that
- 32:07Speaker 6: is one of the things with Polk that mentally it
- 32:08Speaker 6: seems like he understands, you know, how how it kind
- 32:11Speaker 6: of all works. But like I said, I think both
- 32:14Speaker 6: these guys are just you know, they're football players. They're
- 32:16Speaker 6: they're gonna be fun to watch. And that's I think
- 32:19Speaker 6: that's the biggest thing for me is is you know,
- 32:21Speaker 6: just after three days, you've got you finally got something
- 32:24Speaker 6: to be interested in about the Patriots offense. When we
- 32:27Speaker 6: get out you know, to OTAs in a couple of weeks,
- 32:28Speaker 6: I mean camp like yeah, I like, I mean it's
- 32:32Speaker 6: the most fun thing to watch when we go out
- 32:33Speaker 6: to see a new young quarterback and two young receivers
- 32:36Speaker 6: out there during OTAs.
- 32:37Speaker 5: I'm excited, Joe writes in some talk about comparing Poke
- 32:41Speaker 5: to Puka Parker, and now Paul is saying he heard
- 32:44Speaker 5: Jordan Nelson, what about Bobby Trees?
- 32:46Speaker 8: I don't know who that is? Robert Okay, it's like
- 32:50Speaker 8: pauld tell me who that is? Bobby from the nineteen.
- 32:53Speaker 6: Secon didn't scout Bobby Trees.
- 32:55Speaker 8: I thought it was like an I thought it was
- 32:56Speaker 8: somebody from like the nineteen eighties. I'm not gonna lie.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:59Speaker 7: I guess I could see that bit.
- 33:00Speaker 8: I don't necessarily see the Puka Nicula comparisons because Pooka
- 33:03Speaker 8: is so fast with the ball in his hands.
- 33:04Speaker 7: Yeah. I don't think we're saying on Twitter last night
- 33:08Speaker 7: that no one thought that Pooka Nicole was a number one,
- 33:12Speaker 7: number one type receiver. Sorry, I don't mean torupt you,
- 33:15Speaker 7: even though he's not the number one receiver for the
- 33:17Speaker 7: Rams either.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Heck of a quote here from Javon Baker. Uh, come
- 33:21Speaker 6: to the home stadium and bring your popcorn. That's all
- 33:23Speaker 6: I can tell you. Bring your popcorn. I make people
- 33:25Speaker 6: in wheelchairs stand up. Love that, Love that, Yeah, Yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 6: We're gonna need you to walk that one back.
- 33:35Speaker 7: When did he When did did he say that? Just
- 33:36Speaker 7: now I'm a little less high on him than I was.
- 33:40Speaker 8: The wheelchair thing is not. I don't love that.
- 33:43Speaker 7: No, I know, I know what Evan's talking about. The
- 33:45Speaker 7: wide receiver with swaggers never a bad thing as so
- 33:49Speaker 7: long as he can play.
- 33:50Speaker 6: Got some swagger. He got swagger like us, uh, getting
- 33:56Speaker 6: ready to work blue at the swagger.
- 33:57Speaker 8: I like deuces energy, I love juices, and especially because
- 34:00Speaker 8: I have nothing exactly right, it's picking us all up
- 34:02Speaker 8: right now.
- 34:03Speaker 7: I'm not sure what I dropping right into the show.
- 34:05Speaker 7: I'm not gonna lie.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Well, I mean, uh, you know, I think I got
- 34:09Speaker 6: a credit Twitter because it's like you read these comments
- 34:12Speaker 6: and you're like, are people insane?
- 34:14Speaker 7: Like what are you even watching?
- 34:15Speaker 6: Like how could you make that compent? I get I
- 34:17Speaker 6: get it. You're gonna hate everything they do, no matter what,
- 34:19Speaker 6: and you're just an angry Patriots fan who like hate
- 34:22Speaker 6: roots for the team now, But like, if you can't
- 34:24Speaker 6: be happy right, where are you gonna be happy? Like
- 34:26Speaker 6: once the game start, it's all reality and then then
- 34:28Speaker 6: it's like, well, actually, Jayleen Pulp stinks you know, like
- 34:30Speaker 6: then you start to find out the truth. But at
- 34:32Speaker 6: this point we can live in fantasy land where everybody
- 34:35Speaker 6: works out and.
- 34:35Speaker 7: It point like I'm not telling you, like, drop everything
- 34:40Speaker 7: you got, man and make make let's start making plans
- 34:43Speaker 7: for the for the playoff. Like I'm just telling you
- 34:46Speaker 7: you should have some hope. You drafted a quarterback, you
- 34:49Speaker 7: drafted a couple of receivers, you have new guys in place.
- 34:53Speaker 7: Why don't you hope it's gonna change for the better? Yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 7: you know, and then if it doesn't, okay, you get
- 34:59Speaker 7: disappint I'm like, you can't just like, so, well, I
- 35:01Speaker 7: don't want to get my hopes up, because then they're
- 35:03Speaker 7: just gonna stink. You know, I'm not then that way,
- 35:05Speaker 7: Like you're gonna be disappointed either way.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 8: So the comp that I had used and I just
- 35:11Speaker 8: wanted to double check with what I had written for
- 35:15Speaker 8: Baker is Romeo Dobbs in Green Bay. And that twenty
- 35:19Speaker 8: twenty two Packer draft, they drafted Christian Watson in the
- 35:22Speaker 8: second round, and then they drafted Romeo Dobbs in the
- 35:25Speaker 8: fourth round. They have and then all of a sudden,
- 35:28Speaker 8: now Jordan loves got weapons, you know, he's got receivers
- 35:31Speaker 8: around him. You have to think that that was kind
- 35:33Speaker 8: of the model for this draft with Elliott Wolf. No,
- 35:36Speaker 8: is that second and fourth round receivers. Take two of
- 35:39Speaker 8: these guys, one inside, one outside, just like we kind
- 35:42Speaker 8: of did in Green Bay. And you know, they did it.
- 35:45Speaker 7: And they kind of did it the opposite. They went
- 35:47Speaker 7: with the guy, you know, the outside guy in two
- 35:49Speaker 7: and the the more versatile guy for right, and then
- 35:51Speaker 7: the tight ends the next year.
- 35:53Speaker 5: The new thing with receivers. And compared to the spider chart,
- 35:56Speaker 5: have you seen that, I'm not draftable?
- 35:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:58Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They have the spider Shark, but he
- 36:01Speaker 5: got and Darth skeptical rites in.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Ye.
- 36:06Speaker 7: I like that name.
- 36:07Speaker 5: He says, what's the difference between Poke and Baker? That
- 36:09Speaker 5: makes Baker a wide receiver one? And Poke a wide
- 36:12Speaker 5: receiver too? They have both similar measurables basically the same height, weight,
- 36:16Speaker 5: and forty times. I don't think either one's a wide receiver.
- 36:20Speaker 7: Did anybody say that Bakers?
- 36:21Speaker 12: Now?
- 36:21Speaker 8: I think this goes back to what Deuce says, though,
- 36:24Speaker 8: people associate X receiver with one with one right and
- 36:28Speaker 8: that because he's outside right.
- 36:29Speaker 7: So like just out of curiosity your wide receive.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Your wide receiver one is your best wide receiver now.
- 36:34Speaker 6: There, unless it's your tight end.
- 36:36Speaker 7: There are actually well like Kansas City's wide receiver one
- 36:40Speaker 7: is Travis Kel.
- 36:40Speaker 6: Well that was when I continued our argument from last
- 36:42Speaker 6: night in my head as I was trying to go.
- 36:43Speaker 7: To sleep, and a lot of ones.
- 36:45Speaker 6: So then, you know, and like we were talking about
- 36:47Speaker 6: twenty ten with Moss right like, so he falls off
- 36:49Speaker 6: you know to your point. Well, you know, and then
- 36:51Speaker 6: then kind of Gronk became the one, right, I mean,
- 36:53Speaker 6: that's you know, how it evolved.
- 36:55Speaker 7: But there are a lot of ones right now that
- 36:57Speaker 7: aren't necessarily you know, boundary receives that that are just
- 37:01Speaker 7: on the outside of that. I mean, like Tyreek Hill
- 37:02Speaker 7: is Miami's one.
- 37:04Speaker 6: Yeah, he's not an ex well and you'd think that,
- 37:06Speaker 6: like and you'd like to be able to move that
- 37:08Speaker 6: guy around. You don't want him just you know, going
- 37:10Speaker 6: onto the outside lining up on the line of scrimmage
- 37:11Speaker 6: every single snap. You want to play with him and
- 37:13Speaker 6: be able to you know, get a better batch.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Up for me. A wide receiver one is you need,
- 37:18Speaker 5: you need a play, and who's your go to guy
- 37:21Speaker 5: for me?
- 37:21Speaker 7: It's where does the coverage go?
- 37:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, well even you know, I thought, I mean, look,
- 37:25Speaker 6: let's let's we got to call it out like Bill,
- 37:27Speaker 6: Bill Belichick's been awesome, like with some of the analysis,
- 37:30Speaker 6: the stories that have been popping up. I mean, I
- 37:32Speaker 6: think it's it's my favorite Bill Belichick other than you know,
- 37:34Speaker 6: when he's executing a great gamecome but storytime, Bill is wonderful.
- 37:37Speaker 6: Told the whole story about Randy Moss. We've heard that
- 37:39Speaker 6: before the seventeenth time for the seventeenth time. But but
- 37:42Speaker 6: again Belichick on the on the board that too. I mean,
- 37:45Speaker 6: anytime he's doing real football. But but he was talking
- 37:47Speaker 6: about telling Moss, you know, we're gonna move you into
- 37:50Speaker 6: the slot, and he's like, move me into the slot.
- 37:51Speaker 7: You know.
- 37:51Speaker 6: But it's like those kind of things that you know,
- 37:54Speaker 6: illustrate how you can move those guys around.
- 37:55Speaker 7: Even though Randy.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Moss is probably the purest of pure number one X
- 37:59Speaker 6: receivers out there.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Let's see Terrence writes in look at aman Ross Saint
- 38:03Speaker 5: Brown fourth round pick, combine numbers. I guess he's not
- 38:06Speaker 5: a high end wide receiver and he just signed a
- 38:08Speaker 5: top five contracts.
- 38:10Speaker 7: Maybe maybe another number one receiver who's not an.
- 38:13Speaker 5: X Maybe the Lions shouldn't have picked him either. My
- 38:16Speaker 5: fellow Patriots fans need to chill out and let's see
- 38:18Speaker 5: how they develop. I see the vision. The development comes next.
- 38:22Speaker 5: Believe in Wolf in Mayo.
- 38:25Speaker 8: I would not use on Mon Ross Saint Brown as
- 38:28Speaker 8: a common for polk, but Mon Ross Saint Brown is explosive.
- 38:31Speaker 7: No, but what I'm saying I think with it's the
- 38:35Speaker 7: same thing with Pooka and Akua. I don't think there's
- 38:38Speaker 7: the same kind of player. I don't think necessarily think
- 38:40Speaker 7: the email and I might be speaking for the emailer incorrectly,
- 38:43Speaker 7: but I don't think he's necessarily comparing the skill set
- 38:45Speaker 7: as much as mid round. You know, mid round picks
- 38:49Speaker 7: that weren't necessarily thought of as being good enough that
- 38:52Speaker 7: have certainly proven to be good enough.
- 38:55Speaker 8: That's what I never understood why I'm on Ross Saint
- 38:57Speaker 8: Brown fell he had he had great college college table.
- 39:01Speaker 6: That sounds sounds like your kid going down to Florida
- 39:04Speaker 6: for college. I'm TJ Tampa.
- 39:05Speaker 5: Now, Dad will call TJ Tampa.
- 39:08Speaker 8: I did not get it with I didn't see it
- 39:10Speaker 8: with TJ Tampa.
- 39:12Speaker 7: I didn't take him. I was laughing a little while ago.
- 39:15Speaker 7: A punter got taken. Now, if there was out, if
- 39:18Speaker 7: there was a punter in college football that you would
- 39:21Speaker 7: be interested in, who maybe probably got more work than
- 39:24Speaker 7: any other punter in the history of punting, who would
- 39:27Speaker 7: it be but College Iowa? They had about three first
- 39:33Speaker 7: time and that rough, tough, big ten, you know, like
- 39:36Speaker 7: the Iowa punter is a guy that I'm interested in
- 39:38Speaker 7: because I don't know he probably punted two hundred and
- 39:41Speaker 7: eleven times last.
- 39:42Speaker 6: Well, how but he's like a running back. He's got
- 39:44Speaker 6: too many reps on his leg already, right, and he's
- 39:45Speaker 6: gonna have.
- 39:46Speaker 7: A short his best days of behind him. Too many carries, sore.
- 39:51Speaker 6: Leg, he's got a dead leg. Now, it's just you
- 39:52Speaker 6: can't do it.
- 39:53Speaker 7: It's oh, he's an Aussie too. Tory Taylor, fourth round pick.
- 39:58Speaker 7: He went to it's not bears.
- 40:01Speaker 6: We're just flying through them now, huh. This is the
- 40:03Speaker 6: point in the draft where you kind.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Of did the Chiefs take him?
- 40:08Speaker 8: Chiefs are good at this, Chiefs, the Chiefs and who
- 40:16Speaker 8: is I mean the Ravens have had are always good
- 40:19Speaker 8: at this too.
- 40:19Speaker 7: The Eagles, it's annoying.
- 40:22Speaker 5: Eight five five pasts five hundred. Let's go to the
- 40:24Speaker 5: ace to get outline. Chris is in California? What's up, Chris? Chris?
- 40:31Speaker 5: Chris is gone? How about Christian in LA? What's up Christian?
- 40:37Speaker 10: Right? Hey you guys, Happy Saturday to you.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:42Speaker 13: Hey, So for me, the draft is going well. I
- 40:44Speaker 13: wasn't so much as Drake may guy, and now I'm
- 40:47Speaker 13: on board. I love Jalen Polk. Yes, I had the
- 40:50Speaker 13: same of my raw Saint Brown comparison. I love the
- 40:54Speaker 13: tackles and the guards. We have their big bodies, they
- 40:56Speaker 13: can move a little bit. They'll give us the least
- 40:59Speaker 13: a starting point for what we what we need.
- 41:02Speaker 10: I like this guy Baker.
- 41:03Speaker 13: He's got a little bit of that diva that pops
- 41:05Speaker 13: that dog.
- 41:06Speaker 10: As they say, I would not mind.
- 41:09Speaker 13: If for the last two picks, if we took a
- 41:11Speaker 13: running back and then a cornerback. And then my question
- 41:14Speaker 13: for you guys is this, If everyone hits the way
- 41:18Speaker 13: we think, let's say sixty percent of their potential, how
- 41:22Speaker 13: many wins do you think it gets us for this
- 41:24Speaker 13: next year? And second question, if they do hit, does
- 41:27Speaker 13: it accelerate Drake starting you know position?
- 41:32Speaker 10: Does that mean Drake to start this year? If all
- 41:35Speaker 10: the guys that we got to fill the holes sort
- 41:37Speaker 10: of hit, not completely, but just sort of all right,
- 41:39Speaker 10: thank you guys.
- 41:40Speaker 5: Well, if Drake only sort of hits, we're in trouble.
- 41:43Speaker 7: No, I would I would say, I'd say, you're looking
- 41:45Speaker 7: at five wins. But no, I don't think that these
- 41:48Speaker 7: guys have anything to do with when you play Drake May.
- 41:50Speaker 7: The only one that should have anything to do with
- 41:52Speaker 7: that is Drake May.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Yeah, but if Drake May only lives up to sixty
- 41:56Speaker 5: percent of his potential, we're in trouble.
- 41:58Speaker 7: Well that's yeah, I agree with you, Like I'm not
- 42:01Speaker 7: taking them. Yeah, you're right, you're absolutely right. That's what
- 42:03Speaker 7: he said. If they all hit sixty percent, that's not
- 42:05Speaker 7: a good thing. But I would say, like if you,
- 42:09Speaker 7: if you, you have to evaluate Drake May on his
- 42:13Speaker 7: own and you have to decide when you think he's ready.
- 42:16Speaker 7: Like that has nothing to do with Oh my god,
- 42:18Speaker 7: do you see how good Polk is doing? And Baker,
- 42:20Speaker 7: we got to get Drake May in there. If he's
- 42:22Speaker 7: not ready, he's not.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Ready, yep. All right, So we're gonna have Matt Grow
- 42:27Speaker 5: joining us in a little bit. So as soon as
- 42:29Speaker 5: he's ready, and behind the mic, we'll we'll we'll go
- 42:33Speaker 5: to him. Uh So we had Elliott Wolf on day one, yesterday,
- 42:37Speaker 5: we had Cam Williams. Today, we're going to have Matt
- 42:39Speaker 5: grow So good representation of the war room. So I assume,
- 42:43Speaker 5: you know, we'll ask him about the last two picks
- 42:45Speaker 5: that the Patriots had.
- 42:47Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'll be uh be good to ask
- 42:50Speaker 6: him about you know, these guys, and you know, I
- 42:52Speaker 6: think it's well, I mean, I'll save it for my
- 42:55Speaker 6: question for him, but I just think you can you
- 42:58Speaker 6: can see the plan. I mean, obviously they needed offense,
- 43:00Speaker 6: and I am a little bit of a defense guy,
- 43:02Speaker 6: so I'm a little sad right now. Maybe we could
- 43:03Speaker 6: get but you know, I think that they've they've stocked up,
- 43:07Speaker 6: you know, a number of positions that they need to improve.
- 43:09Speaker 6: You know, probably the two most glaring or three most
- 43:11Speaker 6: glaring positions. You know, Drake May we'll see what happens
- 43:16Speaker 6: in terms of his development. But the other ones they're
- 43:18Speaker 6: they're putting guys in there and we'll see how the
- 43:20Speaker 6: competition plays out. I'm sure that's what they're hoping for.
- 43:23Speaker 8: So much about it is that sometimes yeah, there's something
- 43:27Speaker 8: to be said for just stacking talent and not caring
- 43:30Speaker 8: about positions. But I also think what what they're doing
- 43:33Speaker 8: is you can see where this guy's going to play
- 43:35Speaker 8: and where that guy's going to play, and all these
- 43:38Speaker 8: different pieces offensively where there are complimentary skill sets to
- 43:42Speaker 8: each other, let alone just the fact that they are
- 43:44Speaker 8: positions off.
- 43:45Speaker 7: That was going to be my question.
- 43:46Speaker 8: And it's kind of like building that they've they've you
- 43:49Speaker 8: can see where they're going in terms of building the offense,
- 43:52Speaker 8: whereas sometimes I feel like in recent years they make
- 43:55Speaker 8: a pick and you're like, Okay, but where's that guy
- 43:57Speaker 8: going to get on the field? You know, And I'm
- 44:00Speaker 8: not trying to kill them for past draft, but you know,
- 44:03Speaker 8: like Mapho or even Keon White and you're like, Okay,
- 44:05Speaker 8: I can see what they see in the player, but
- 44:08Speaker 8: Marty Mapho is kind of parried on the depth chart.
- 44:10Speaker 8: Isn't he behind six box safe?
- 44:12Speaker 2: Oh?
- 44:12Speaker 7: And That's what I was going to say. Why you know,
- 44:14Speaker 7: I keep using the word hope. Why I'm so much
- 44:16Speaker 7: happier about what's going on right now than I was
- 44:19Speaker 7: at this time last year because not because of necessarily
- 44:21Speaker 7: the players or how good they're gonna end up being
- 44:24Speaker 7: I didn't know then, I don't know now, but you
- 44:27Speaker 7: can see the idea of what they're doing. Last year,
- 44:30Speaker 7: everybody thought the same thing people thought this year, except
- 44:33Speaker 7: for the quarterback, and they went corner, which was in need,
- 44:38Speaker 7: and then defensive lineman, hybrid safety, linebacker. That's still I mean,
- 44:43Speaker 7: I know I got yelled at by someone last year.
- 44:45Speaker 7: I still don't understand what the idea was with Mapoo,
- 44:49Speaker 7: and so this year it's like, well, they need wide receivers,
- 44:53Speaker 7: they got two of them. They need tackle they got that,
- 44:56Speaker 7: you know, they drafted one. Yeah, I mean the quarterback,
- 44:59Speaker 7: like Evan said earlier, that was really you know, that
- 45:01Speaker 7: was there. That's a no brainer. But I understand what
- 45:05Speaker 7: the thought process was.
- 45:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I love what I think Elliott said it to
- 45:09Speaker 8: us on night one that days two and three that's
- 45:12Speaker 8: really where the scouts go to work, right like the
- 45:14Speaker 8: first day taking the Drake. Maybe not to take anything
- 45:17Speaker 8: away from anybody in the war room, but Paul could
- 45:19Speaker 8: have taken Drake May with the third overall pick in
- 45:21Speaker 8: the draft, could could.
- 45:24Speaker 7: You know, by the way, taking Drake May att two
- 45:26Speaker 7: as well.
- 45:26Speaker 8: Yeah, Like at this point of the draft is where
- 45:30Speaker 8: like I said earlier, there are some options, and they're
- 45:33Speaker 8: all kind of in clustered together, and you're gonna pick
- 45:35Speaker 8: one guy, and the team next to you is going
- 45:37Speaker 8: to pick the other. And you hope that your guys
- 45:38Speaker 8: the better guy in the long run, and that those
- 45:41Speaker 8: are where the really good evaluators separate themselves. And I
- 45:45Speaker 8: think you know last year's draft with MAPU, My guess
- 45:50Speaker 8: is is that Bill Belichick wasn't going to pay Kyle Duggart.
- 45:52Speaker 8: So yeah, and so that that was the next Kyle Duggart.
- 45:56Speaker 7: But I don't think that there was any I don't
- 45:58Speaker 7: think there were any indications that they could allow Kyle
- 46:01Speaker 7: Dougle to leave based on anything MAPU had done. Fair enough,
- 46:05Speaker 7: you know what I mean.
- 46:06Speaker 8: But if Bill was still here, do you think Kyle
- 46:07Speaker 8: doug I think that's what the thought process.
- 46:10Speaker 5: I think that's a good point. If if had lit
- 46:14Speaker 5: it up, then maybe they would have let him.
- 46:15Speaker 7: Go, right, Yeah, that's probably good. So, uh, your Detroit Lions,
- 46:21Speaker 7: who I know how you get all hot and bothered
- 46:23Speaker 7: about what the Lions are doing. Keep the pants on.
- 46:29Speaker 7: The Lions are good at this good football play.
- 46:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, he can play running back if he
- 46:34Speaker 8: can play running back and can play special teams so
- 46:36Speaker 8: he can play safety.
- 46:37Speaker 6: Yeah, he felt like he was mine when you asked
- 46:39Speaker 6: your your little pole there about who's.
- 46:41Speaker 7: Going to be a pain? Why my little pole always
- 46:43Speaker 7: has to get involved in these conversations.
- 46:46Speaker 6: We love your little pool.
- 46:47Speaker 8: He's he's day three Cooper de jen.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Who I know. I know who Paul loves by the
- 46:54Speaker 7: personal safety. Can't get enough of them, get.
- 46:56Speaker 8: Them hot and bothered. Jayden Higgs a good player to
- 47:00Speaker 8: the Chiefs again, man, I mean, come on, like, what
- 47:02Speaker 8: are we doing?
- 47:04Speaker 7: Like Evan like liked every player draft, Jayden Hicks was
- 47:09Speaker 7: the Chiefs.
- 47:09Speaker 5: He dropped a little.
- 47:10Speaker 8: Bit, did drop a little bit?
- 47:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 47:12Speaker 8: I thought he was the best safety in the draft.
- 47:14Speaker 8: And I know I'm not alone. I think Dane Brugler
- 47:17Speaker 8: had him as the best safety in the draft.
- 47:19Speaker 7: Jayden Hicks was thirty nine in the Beast.
- 47:20Speaker 8: That's why I said the Chiefs are good at this.
- 47:22Speaker 8: It's annoying that xavior worthy. Jayden Hicks gired Wiley.
- 47:27Speaker 7: You think he had to walk around the block with
- 47:28Speaker 7: a baseball bat? Yeah, damn today yesterday.
- 47:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 47:33Speaker 7: You think Jayden Hicks, like you know, had five other
- 47:36Speaker 7: save six other safeties taken so far, and he's like
- 47:40Speaker 7: got a list now he's on the share.
- 47:41Speaker 8: Well, he's he's a he wasn't a. He's a pure
- 47:45Speaker 8: box safety. He's Kyle Duggar. You know, he's very similar
- 47:47Speaker 8: player to Kyle Duggar. So not exactly. Oh, they got
- 47:51Speaker 8: King the Chiefs just they got Kingsley to you just
- 47:54Speaker 8: remembered that grand is unbelievable.
- 47:58Speaker 7: Don't you remember when they took They took Kingsley last
- 48:00Speaker 7: night and I read them homesweek like Beach.
- 48:03Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean like you get the Billach the bills
- 48:07Speaker 8: game gave Xavier Worthy and I will never forgive them
- 48:12Speaker 8: for that.
- 48:12Speaker 7: Like, what are you doing?
- 48:14Speaker 8: Unbelievable.
- 48:15Speaker 5: Let's get to some of the phone calls while we
- 48:17Speaker 5: wait for Matt gro to join us. John's in South Beach.
- 48:21Speaker 5: What's up John?
- 48:24Speaker 14: Everyone? So I was a little.
- 48:30Speaker 5: I'm gonna put you on hold. Hold on, John, we
- 48:34Speaker 5: got macro, Matt. Can you hear us? Hey, Matt, thanks
- 48:38Speaker 5: for taking the time. I know you guys are busy.
- 48:41Speaker 5: I'm here with Mike do So, Evan Lazarre, Paul Parol, myself.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Tell us a little about these two fellows that you
- 48:47Speaker 5: took in the fourth round.
- 48:50Speaker 15: Laden Robinson out of Texas A and M. You know,
- 48:54Speaker 15: really excited to add him at some you know, the
- 48:57Speaker 15: interior play in this league. When you can get a
- 49:00Speaker 15: good player, you know, there's there's a lot to be
- 49:03Speaker 15: said for that, especially here in the fourth round. Three
- 49:07Speaker 15: year starter at A and M. Coach at Dasio a
- 49:11Speaker 15: name that you know a lot of a lot of
- 49:12Speaker 15: Boston people are are probably familiar with coaching the O
- 49:16Speaker 15: line down there, so you know what you're gonna get with.
- 49:18Speaker 2: With coach A. Dazioh.
- 49:19Speaker 15: You know, tough, tough minded, you know, tough physical guys
- 49:23Speaker 15: on the field.
- 49:24Speaker 10: So you know, able to.
- 49:26Speaker 15: Speak to him and some other people down there at
- 49:28Speaker 15: A and M and you know, really saying the praises
- 49:31Speaker 15: of Leyden and then you just you know, you put
- 49:33Speaker 15: the film on and you can see the power that
- 49:35Speaker 15: this young man has and we're able to spend some
- 49:38Speaker 15: time with him before Pro Day and you know, get
- 49:41Speaker 15: him up here and and so there's there's a high
- 49:43Speaker 15: comfort level with Leyden and what you can bring to
- 49:47Speaker 15: the table for us.
- 49:48Speaker 6: Yep, that just along those lines, you know, along the
- 49:50Speaker 6: offensive line, you took Wallace last night. You know, I'm
- 49:54Speaker 6: looking at my little unofficial death trap and it looks
- 49:56Speaker 6: like eight tackles, you know, a bunch of interior guys,
- 49:58Speaker 6: including the three that you guys select did last year.
- 50:01Speaker 6: It feels like the offensive line overall is going to
- 50:03Speaker 6: be a spot that that's kind of righte for some competition.
- 50:07Speaker 15: Yeah, that's what we wanted all spots in this competition.
- 50:10Speaker 15: And and that's how you get better is having guys
- 50:13Speaker 15: compete against each other each day and then you know,
- 50:15Speaker 15: be able to go out there and compete their best
- 50:17Speaker 15: on Sundays. And uh, there's there's not many worse feelings, uh,
- 50:22Speaker 15: you know than being tackle poor. You know, so I
- 50:27Speaker 15: don't want to say we're we're tackle rich. You know,
- 50:29Speaker 15: these guys are going to have to go out there
- 50:31Speaker 15: and prove themselves and develop and really excited about you
- 50:34Speaker 15: know what coach Peters can do with a lot of
- 50:36Speaker 15: these guys. But again to be able to add you know,
- 50:40Speaker 15: a talented experienced player. This guy started a ton of
- 50:44Speaker 15: games and then Big Ten know what we're getting from
- 50:47Speaker 15: from coach Franklin, you know at Penn State and and
- 50:51Speaker 15: you know, all those games in the Big Ten you know,
- 50:54Speaker 15: you're getting this as well prepared of a player at
- 50:56Speaker 15: that position as you can hope to get.
- 50:58Speaker 5: You picked up Javon Baker, you had Poke already selected.
- 51:02Speaker 5: How do these two receivers complement each other?
- 51:06Speaker 15: Yeah, so you know Javon's played a little bit of acts,
- 51:08Speaker 15: played a little bit of slot. You know, this is
- 51:11Speaker 15: a kid who went to Alabama, you know, so they've
- 51:15Speaker 15: got a pretty good knack of finding wide receivers out
- 51:18Speaker 15: of high school. They don't just offer anybody to come
- 51:22Speaker 15: play that position there. Obviously, Coach Saban and his staff
- 51:26Speaker 15: and everything that they've done, they know what they're looking for.
- 51:28Speaker 15: So didn't work out for Javon at Alabama hasn't worked
- 51:32Speaker 15: out for a few guys at Alabama.
- 51:33Speaker 2: You know, you can come up with.
- 51:34Speaker 15: Some pretty pretty good name for players who started there
- 51:37Speaker 15: and and go on, I won't list the names off.
- 51:40Speaker 10: You know who they are.
- 51:42Speaker 15: So you know Javon and then you know remember being
- 51:45Speaker 15: down there his first game at UCF a couple of
- 51:48Speaker 15: years ago saying, WHOA, who's this guy? Uh, so you
- 51:50Speaker 15: could see the talent right away and to get him
- 51:54Speaker 15: with with Jalen with JP and start working here with
- 51:58Speaker 15: Drake to try and build chemistry. It doesn't just happen overnight.
- 52:03Speaker 15: And now you've got a couple of guys who who
- 52:06Speaker 15: can grow with Drake. You know, you're not talking about
- 52:09Speaker 15: a free agent, you know who. You know, those deals
- 52:12Speaker 15: aren't aren't always four years now, and now we've got
- 52:15Speaker 15: guys who can grow for four years and and that's
- 52:19Speaker 15: that's really nice to to be able to establish that
- 52:21Speaker 15: kind of.
- 52:21Speaker 8: Relationship Matt with Jalen and Javon. The other thing that
- 52:25Speaker 8: we've been talking about a lot is you know how
- 52:28Speaker 8: tough they are and on contested catches and winning those
- 52:31Speaker 8: passes outside their catch ratses are are pretty large as well.
- 52:36Speaker 8: How important was that for you guys to have two
- 52:38Speaker 8: guys that that can go out there and be really
- 52:40Speaker 8: good hands catchers for Drake?
- 52:43Speaker 15: Absolutely the contested catch you know, that's that's what this
- 52:46Speaker 15: league is. If you can't make some of those, then
- 52:49Speaker 15: then it's going to be tough. And you want guys
- 52:52Speaker 15: who can can be open even even when they're covered.
- 52:55Speaker 10: Uh.
- 52:55Speaker 15: And to have guys like JP and and Javon to
- 52:59Speaker 15: be able to go up and snatch the ball out
- 53:01Speaker 15: of the air.
- 53:02Speaker 5: Uh.
- 53:02Speaker 15: You know that's that's an important.
- 53:03Speaker 5: Trait to have, h I know, you have to get
- 53:05Speaker 5: back to work, but quickly, any curve balls that you've seen,
- 53:09Speaker 5: you know, throughout the draft, things that you didn't expect
- 53:11Speaker 5: to happen, that kind of you know, said wow, that
- 53:14Speaker 5: that was not on our radar.
- 53:17Speaker 15: Yeah, I'll leave those comments inside the draft room. The
- 53:22Speaker 15: eyebrows that go up inside the draft draft room, I'll
- 53:25Speaker 15: leave those in there.
- 53:27Speaker 7: So no, no, it's a good question.
- 53:29Speaker 2: It's a good question.
- 53:29Speaker 7: But do you feel bored.
- 53:31Speaker 15: I'm not going to give myself in trouble on that
- 53:34Speaker 15: on somebody else's draft.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Do you feel bored today?
- 53:36Speaker 7: Matt?
- 53:36Speaker 6: You had nine picks last year on day three? Are
- 53:37Speaker 6: you a little bit more relaxed than with a few
- 53:39Speaker 6: less picks.
- 53:40Speaker 2: When you start off with a bang here?
- 53:43Speaker 15: You know, when we were at one o three kind
- 53:46Speaker 15: of had an idea as to how that was going
- 53:48Speaker 15: to fall. But it comes quick at you and then
- 53:51Speaker 15: you know, with the accelerated clock at at five minutes,
- 53:53Speaker 15: it's it's moving. Yeah, you know right now, you wish
- 53:56Speaker 15: it was moving a little bit faster. But you know,
- 53:59Speaker 15: there's always deals that we're fielding and we're reaching out on,
- 54:02Speaker 15: so rarely are we just sitting there toddling our thumbs saying, okay,
- 54:08Speaker 15: we got forty five more picks, which is about probably
- 54:12Speaker 15: where we are right now until we pick so right,
- 54:15Speaker 15: who knows, by the time I get back in there,
- 54:18Speaker 15: we might be on the clock.
- 54:19Speaker 7: Okay, so Macro just packaging those two sixth round picks.
- 54:22Speaker 7: We're going to get into the fifth round, so you
- 54:25Speaker 7: don't go anywhere, everybody, We're gonna be on the clock momentary.
- 54:28Speaker 5: All right, Well, well, Matt, we'll let you get back
- 54:30Speaker 5: in there, but thank you for joining us. We appreciate
- 54:33Speaker 5: your time.
- 54:33Speaker 8: Thanks, Matt, appreciate it.
- 54:35Speaker 12: Thanks for the covering, Matt.
- 54:36Speaker 5: All right, Matt grow coming to us from the war
- 54:38Speaker 5: room with some analysis on the fourth round picks.
- 54:42Speaker 7: And the fifth round is underway by the way.
- 54:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I like that.
- 54:44Speaker 6: Appreciate the coverage was, you know, that's all we do.
- 54:47Speaker 6: We covered the team, So thank you. Yeah, yeah, appreciate
- 54:50Speaker 6: your appreciation.
- 54:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:50Speaker 8: I was Laden Robinson was a senior Bowl guy, and
- 54:55Speaker 8: so I was down there and Macro was leading the
- 54:58Speaker 8: Patriots contingent on there because Elliott was up here with
- 55:01Speaker 8: Girodd filling out the coaching staff at that time. So
- 55:04Speaker 8: it was Macro, it was Cam Williams who we talked
- 55:06Speaker 8: to yesterday, and those guys that were really running the
- 55:09Speaker 8: show in Mobile. So obviously they must have come back
- 55:11Speaker 8: from Mobile and said, hey, this card from A and
- 55:13Speaker 8: M is pretty good and here we are.
- 55:15Speaker 5: All right, we'll go back to John and South Beach.
- 55:17Speaker 5: Thanks for holding on, John.
- 55:21Speaker 7: John, what's up?
- 55:26Speaker 14: Okay, this is not what I was going to call about.
- 55:28Speaker 14: But is there like this weird phenomenon of Bill guys
- 55:32Speaker 14: who kind of their voices sound like Bill over time?
- 55:35Speaker 5: I think so, Yeah, that's good.
- 55:38Speaker 6: I think Steve, Steve Belichick, Nick I thought sounded a
- 55:41Speaker 6: lot like Bill.
- 55:43Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 55:44Speaker 14: Yeah, I was a little disappointed, slash skeptical of how
- 55:51Speaker 14: the off season has gone this far. But you know,
- 55:54Speaker 14: call me and Mark, call me. You know that's that
- 55:58Speaker 14: total Phill was Tom or whatever. I'm not like a
- 56:01Speaker 14: draft person at all, but after these first few picks,
- 56:03Speaker 14: I'm kind of feeling a little opeful, and I'm wondering,
- 56:07Speaker 14: here's my question, are we ushering in an era of
- 56:11Speaker 14: voteful Paul to combat the great White snark?
- 56:15Speaker 7: Well, they are kind of one and the same. Now,
- 56:18Speaker 7: I'll never lose the snark, but I might be snarky
- 56:21Speaker 7: on the side of hope. Now you know to the
- 56:23Speaker 7: people that are going to you know, call in and
- 56:26Speaker 7: just dump on every pick. Like I talked about that
- 56:29Speaker 7: that mail bag question we got that that reads as follows,
- 56:33Speaker 7: like it appears the Patriots watch the parago by a
- 56:35Speaker 7: wide receiver and tackle and then reached for leftovers at
- 56:38Speaker 7: those positions instead of drafting better players. They took those
- 56:41Speaker 7: two positions at the very next picks they had, like
- 56:45Speaker 7: they went they took one it's in the second round
- 56:47Speaker 7: or one of the third were they supposed to do? YEA,
- 56:52Speaker 7: And I just say to you, so that's my.
- 56:54Speaker 14: Snark, But what I'm hearing is snark is the medium.
- 57:00Speaker 7: Yes, No, I just I do feel and I'm not
- 57:02Speaker 7: trying to just put on an act. I do feel
- 57:04Speaker 7: like there should be some hope on this weekend. This
- 57:07Speaker 7: is you have to hope more more so than anything
- 57:10Speaker 7: about Drake may but you you should have some hope.
- 57:12Speaker 6: I would just say to John's point, like I don't
- 57:14Speaker 6: think you're wrong to be a little bit disappointed with
- 57:16Speaker 6: how free he went, like like we all were. We
- 57:19Speaker 6: all were disappointed. But I think the lesson though, and
- 57:21Speaker 6: that you know what we were kind of trying to
- 57:23Speaker 6: preach at the time is that this is how you
- 57:25Speaker 6: get better. You hit on these draft picks, you retain
- 57:28Speaker 6: these this is this is where the real stuff is.
- 57:30Speaker 6: It's not you know, making the big free agency splashes. Yes,
- 57:33Speaker 6: it would have been nice. It would have probably added
- 57:34Speaker 6: something that all of us would have been excited about,
- 57:36Speaker 6: so that that's fair. But you know, this is where
- 57:39Speaker 6: the reality is.
- 57:40Speaker 7: This is you had gotten Calvin Ridley, maybe you wouldn't
- 57:44Speaker 7: have had to use the second round pick on a
- 57:46Speaker 7: wide receiver and you could have gotten a player that
- 57:49Speaker 7: could have you know what I mean, another player that
- 57:51Speaker 7: could have played right away. That's how exactly exactly.
- 57:55Speaker 5: I mean, these these teams that are consistently in the
- 57:58Speaker 5: mix every year they draft well.
- 58:00Speaker 6: And then even every time Kansas City, tex.
- 58:04Speaker 5: And Baltimore and then they bring in the pen again.
- 58:07Speaker 5: I mean, look at what the forty nine ers did,
- 58:09Speaker 5: and then they bring in McCaffrey and they're right, that's it,
- 58:12Speaker 5: you know, right.
- 58:13Speaker 7: Yeah, so this this Javon Baker or something. I guess,
- 58:15Speaker 7: oh yeah, let's yeah. You know, the mentality after having
- 58:20Speaker 7: to wait till day three, kill whoever's on the other
- 58:22Speaker 7: side of the of me. That's really my mentality. That's it. Alex.
- 58:26Speaker 8: Alex barthways in NFL inside NFL Insider, and he just
- 58:31Speaker 8: texted me Javon Baker is a legit psycho.
- 58:34Speaker 7: I love it. I'm all in.
- 58:35Speaker 8: That's what he said.
- 58:37Speaker 7: Okay, those guys worry me, little flair. We'll gonna lie
- 58:40Speaker 7: those guys.
- 58:42Speaker 8: You gotta have a little dog in you. I think
- 58:43Speaker 8: both these guys have a little dog in them both.
- 58:46Speaker 6: And they might be making a commercial for the a
- 58:48Speaker 6: DA sometime not too in the distant future.
- 58:50Speaker 5: But he's all right, Uh, Melvin's in Tennessee. What's up, Melvin?
- 58:55Speaker 7: Hey, Hey Melvin?
- 58:57Speaker 10: Right?
- 58:57Speaker 16: Uh, I guess them. I'm just glad everything makes sense
- 59:02Speaker 16: this time. You never know with receivers. Obviously, hopefully I'm
- 59:09Speaker 16: praying that one of them works out, but you know,
- 59:13Speaker 16: there's also the opportunity that neither one of them work out.
- 59:16Speaker 16: Maybe both of them work out. But if we just
- 59:18Speaker 16: were to get a ride receiver two right now, there's
- 59:20Speaker 16: so many different ways you can get rid receiver one
- 59:22Speaker 16: obso with drafting, but you know, ride receiver will cry
- 59:26Speaker 16: every year on some money or whatever, just like that,
- 59:28Speaker 16: so you can address that that waits. You know, you
- 59:32Speaker 16: can do it different ways, but we can get something
- 59:35Speaker 16: like that and everything like that works out. With the offense,
- 59:38Speaker 16: I think the defense was okay last year. Is just
- 59:41Speaker 16: so bad on offense. So I'm just glad to be
- 59:43Speaker 16: that we at least have coaching staff and something like
- 59:46Speaker 16: that that everything is at least making sense. We're not
- 59:49Speaker 16: drafting of running back in the second round or something
- 59:51Speaker 16: like that that we'll just throw you for a loop.
- 59:54Speaker 16: So I'm happy with what they picked. So I'm just
- 59:58Speaker 16: you know, it's exciting part of the year. So hopeful
- 1:00:01Speaker 16: everything like that will work out and then we'll just
- 1:00:03Speaker 16: see what happens from there.
- 1:00:04Speaker 12: But so far, so good with me.
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think that thank you.
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: Over the course even of Belichick's tenure, I feel like
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: the drafts where everything even if you don't agree with
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: each individual player necessarily or maybe you liked one guy
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: over another, when the positions and where they were picked
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: made sense. It seemed like those drafts for the most part,
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: were better than the ones where we get cold strange
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: in the first round. You know, like when you have
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: those drafts that are even twenty one even it didn't
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: necessarily work out in the long run, but it was
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: Mac Barmore Remandre like right where they were supposed to
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: be drafted, and it was it looked at least for
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: a couple of years like it was a pretty solid haul.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: It did.
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: And other than Mac, I mean, Remandre was good and is.
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: Hopefully going to get extended.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Yeah, let's see, mel isn't Sacramento be blunt mel.
- 1:00:52Speaker 12: By guys. I hey, thank you, thank you guys for
- 1:00:55Speaker 12: the magnificent job you guys are doing in the draft.
- 1:00:58Speaker 12: I just have a little sit of confusion in regards
- 1:01:01Speaker 12: to why are we taking a Guard when we have
- 1:01:04Speaker 12: a need for a tight end and there are other
- 1:01:07Speaker 12: needs that haven't been filled yet. Totally, I was expecting
- 1:01:11Speaker 12: more aggression in terms of moving up and driving Crafty
- 1:01:15Speaker 12: more higher end talent. So I am somewhat optimistic, but
- 1:01:20Speaker 12: I also feel like we have to compete with some
- 1:01:23Speaker 12: really good teams, and I'm saying this is more of
- 1:01:25Speaker 12: but a long term improvement as opposed to trying to
- 1:01:30Speaker 12: win right away.
- 1:01:32Speaker 8: I do know about that last part, but I totally
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: understand where you're coming from with the Guard.
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: When this one this one position.
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: When Laden Robinson was taken, I have to admit I
- 1:01:40Speaker 8: was like, oh God, here we go again. I mean,
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: they saved me with Javon Baker a couple of picks later.
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: But it has to be you know, we're talking I
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: don't know if we were on here when we were
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: talking about this, but the guards that they've taken over
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: the last two years, they've taken four guards in the
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: top one fifty now five with Robinson the four of
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: the last two drafts Cold Strange City. So Jake andrews
- 1:02:00Speaker 8: Antonio Maffi, this tells me that they don't love those guys.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: Or not all of them. Yeah.
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: Yeah, And because that's why he should be said depth
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: wise at that position, and you're not apparent.
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: It's the Fred and Paul Tenant of watching what this
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: Patriots team does, watch what they do. And I think
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: it's easy to sit there and say, and you know,
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: Melon sack Town just said, you know, like like tight end.
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: Well I look at you know, they they have tight
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: ends on the roster, and they have guards on the roster,
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: and they drafted a guard. What is that telling you
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: than the guard?
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: And I also don't want to get too lost in
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: what's happening in the fourth and fifth rounds of drafts.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: You're not addressing needs when you pick out like Javon Baker,
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: God love them. Seems like a character, you know, you know,
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: we have, you know, an infusion of you know, sort
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: of swag in the locker room evidently. But I'm not
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: gonna just sit there and say, well, you know, fourth
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: round pick, he plug him in day one, he's gonna starting.
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: Who's gonna catch ninety eight passes for us next year?
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: Probably not gonna happen. They haven't necessarily addressed wide receiver.
- 1:03:06Speaker 7: They've selected a couple of wide receivers. Hopefully they can
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: play like tight end Hunter Henry Austin Hooper, h will Coxcox,
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: Mitchell Wilcox. Yeah. I don't really think that's all that
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: different than Cole Strange.
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: Tonio Maffi, Yeah, I mean Hunter Henry is better than
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: all of those guys at guard. But other than that,
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: it's not different. But I do think in this draft
- 1:03:31Speaker 8: the tight end class wasn't particularly strong. It was Bratt
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: Bowers and then a big, big big get.
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: But a lot of people and you guys included, and listen,
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: I don't follow it as close asly as you guys do.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: Like I just didn't view tight end. Is this like,
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: who they gonna get a tight end? Who they are?
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: You know? Except for Claire t end They're not a
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: huge not a huge thing for me.
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: And if they want to throw like a later round
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: dart at like Tanner mcclaran hand from Arizona or Jean
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: Bell from Florida State, those guys are still ailable and
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: I would think maybe in the sixth round they might
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: still be there, both those guys. So you know, those
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: are options of guys that I had decent you know, Okay,
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: this guy could be a backup, you know, interesting kind
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: of chess peace type player.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: Yeah, that was for me, the tight ends I was
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: always looking for, Just like I just wanted like a
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: kind of a third y blocking guy that could just
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: complement those two starters.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: But you see how high Tip Raymond went, Now, I
- 1:04:22Speaker 8: that was a wild one.

- 1:12:56Speaker 9: Javon, congratulations and welcome to New England. And I saw
- 1:13:00Speaker 9: one of your initial reactions on Instagram was that it
- 1:13:03Speaker 9: took too long for you to be picked. Yes, what's
- 1:13:06Speaker 9: what's your mentality now? After rafting after having to wait
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: two days to get drafted.
- 1:13:14Speaker 21: It's just it's just mentality is just kill whoever whoever
- 1:13:22Speaker 21: on the side of me on on the other side
- 1:13:24Speaker 21: of me.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: There's really the mom mentality.
- 1:13:28Speaker 9: Thanks, and uh one other one real quick? What can
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: you tell us and Patriots fans about your game?
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:13:36Speaker 21: Just come to the home stadium and bring out popcorn.
- 1:13:39Speaker 21: That's all I can tell y'all. Bring you popcorn.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: I made. I made people in wheel chairs stand up,
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: bring you popcorn.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Question here, Chris Mason.
- 1:13:55Speaker 22: Hey, Javon, congrats on getting drafted. What are your first
- 1:13:58Speaker 22: impressions of Drake May and working with him moving forward?
- 1:14:01Speaker 22: Stay again, please, what are your first impressions of Drake
- 1:14:04Speaker 22: May as a quarterback and.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Working with him? Yeah?
- 1:14:07Speaker 21: Honestly, people don't notice, but when Drake May was committed
- 1:14:11Speaker 21: to them at first, he was always used to practice
- 1:14:13Speaker 21: and throw around.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: So me and Jake May gotta gotta like got a
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: connection going on.
- 1:14:18Speaker 21: So Drake May probably really, what I think, in my opinion,
- 1:14:22Speaker 21: the best quarterback in this job. So and we connect again,
- 1:14:25Speaker 21: it's gonna be it's gonna be a good connection.
- 1:14:30Speaker 22: What do you remember about him from those throng sessions.
- 1:14:33Speaker 21: Uh, competitive and trying to get the ball every like
- 1:14:36Speaker 21: what the spots that I asked him to, he'll put
- 1:14:39Speaker 21: it there, So he'll be just competitive, competitive quarterback and
- 1:14:41Speaker 21: that's what I like in the quarterback and somebody that
- 1:14:44Speaker 21: could push me and I push him.
- 1:14:46Speaker 23: Thank you, Next question, Nick quite Thanks step Hey, congratulations.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Javon.
- 1:14:53Speaker 22: Just wanted to ask you your impressions of just joining
- 1:14:56Speaker 22: the New England Patriots organization and when you think of
- 1:14:58Speaker 22: the Patriots, what do.
- 1:14:59Speaker 21: You think of honestly, like just just being a part
- 1:15:03Speaker 21: of that organization. I know it's winning mentality organization, just
- 1:15:06Speaker 21: like just like how it was at BEMA, just winning
- 1:15:10Speaker 21: and like no but everybody liked winning and this it
- 1:15:13Speaker 21: wouldn't be a better opportunity and a better place to
- 1:15:16Speaker 21: go to than this place.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: So I just can't wait's.
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: Questions, So if you will, Hi, Javon, congratulations. I was
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: just curious.
- 1:15:28Speaker 24: You know, you mentioned that you had throwing sessions with
- 1:15:30Speaker 24: Drake may Uh did you reach out to him at
- 1:15:33Speaker 24: all after he was drafted? And second, did have you
- 1:15:37Speaker 24: heard anything from him or from you know, have you
- 1:15:40Speaker 24: reached out to him since being drafted? Now that you
- 1:15:42Speaker 24: guys are on the same team.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 1:15:45Speaker 21: I didn't reach out to him when he got drafted,
- 1:15:46Speaker 21: But as soon as I got drafted, he reached out
- 1:15:48Speaker 21: to me and.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Were just telling the congression, let's get this get to work.
- 1:15:52Speaker 21: And JP, who's working out this whole this whole off season,
- 1:15:58Speaker 21: this whole little process. So we got to connec going
- 1:16:00Speaker 21: on to so just them, us three alone and just
- 1:16:03Speaker 21: gonna just bring back through, bring.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Back and winning mentality that everybody like.
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: Boston you talk about that connection.
- 1:16:11Speaker 24: Do you feel like this was like a very good
- 1:16:13Speaker 24: place for you to land with the two players that
- 1:16:16Speaker 24: you literally saying that about.
- 1:16:19Speaker 21: Yeah, like I said earlier, it's a perfect person. Yeah,
- 1:16:21Speaker 21: Like I said earlier, it's the perfect opportunity. Yeah, I
- 1:16:23Speaker 21: just I just can't wait to put on their uniform.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Question mark Daniel and.
- 1:16:31Speaker 25: Run not congratulations. Based off your background and you know,
- 1:16:36Speaker 25: transferring UCF, how much would you say there's a chip
- 1:16:39Speaker 25: on your shoulder and how much does this stuff that
- 1:16:41Speaker 25: happened to you in the past, how much does that
- 1:16:43Speaker 25: drive you?
- 1:16:44Speaker 26: Uh?
- 1:16:45Speaker 21: Honestly, like it's gonna always be a toop on my
- 1:16:48Speaker 21: shoulder no matter what. I'm self driven. So I know,
- 1:16:54Speaker 21: I know how it feel to be behind somebody. I
- 1:16:56Speaker 21: know how to feel to be bottom of the death try.
- 1:16:59Speaker 21: So I'm always have a chip on my shoulder with artists.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: And what are you hoping to prove with the Patriots?
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: Prove them?
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: Prove them everything, Like prove them what I can do.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Prove them I could. I could do everything as a receiver.
- 1:17:11Speaker 21: I could do anything to win, like just pull them
- 1:17:14Speaker 21: that I'm a team player and I want to prove
- 1:17:16Speaker 21: to the team that I'm one of them guys.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: So that's what i want to do. Thank you, Congruts.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: Question Kegan Steve who.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Congratulations. I was just wondering.
- 1:17:29Speaker 22: You talked to Steve Smith before the draft a little
- 1:17:31Speaker 22: bit about your game, and you said, once the ball's
- 1:17:33Speaker 22: in your hand, you can change the game.
- 1:17:35Speaker 21: What is it about what you do that can change
- 1:17:39Speaker 21: my mentality? I'm a I'm a I'm a receiver. I
- 1:17:42Speaker 21: don't I don't know nothing but receiving the ball. You
- 1:17:45Speaker 21: don't care if the ball throwing out of bounds in
- 1:17:47Speaker 21: the sideline. I'm going to receive the ball. So at
- 1:17:49Speaker 21: the end of the day, that right there, my mentality
- 1:17:51Speaker 21: is just just different from any any other receiver.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: I can get down and dirty. I can do anything.
- 1:17:55Speaker 21: So that right there, my mentality alone, can can just
- 1:17:59Speaker 21: do it everything like as a receiver, just just my
- 1:18:03Speaker 21: mentality and honestly, next question.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: We'll do two more questions here. First one starting from Taylor.
- 1:18:11Speaker 23: Kyles iveon congratulations man, welcome to New England. Before the draft,
- 1:18:16Speaker 23: Elliot Wolf mentioned the team didn't really have a true
- 1:18:19Speaker 23: ex that guy could line up on the back side
- 1:18:21Speaker 23: and winning one on one coverage. Seemed like that was
- 1:18:23Speaker 23: a place you had a lot of success in college.
- 1:18:24Speaker 23: So do you feel like you can be that guy.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: For this offense?
- 1:18:27Speaker 21: Yes, sir, I could be anything, honestly, whatever coach Mayo
- 1:18:32Speaker 21: want me to be, I could be just that right there.
- 1:18:35Speaker 21: I could be ex Wow, your h you no matter
- 1:18:39Speaker 21: to me? And what allowed you to thrive in those
- 1:18:41Speaker 21: one on one matchups? Would you say, uh, honestly, my mentality,
- 1:18:46Speaker 21: Mama and Taldy went. I line up against that corner
- 1:18:49Speaker 21: and I know it's game over.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: So welcome to New England for sure.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Question from Doug Kyde.
- 1:19:00Speaker 9: On I saw that you were on Cam Newton seven
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: on seven team. What was your relationship like with Cam
- 1:19:05Speaker 9: Newton and has ever spoken to you about his time
- 1:19:09Speaker 9: in New England.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, Mama.
- 1:19:11Speaker 21: Actually, Cam Newton is like a big brother relationship. Before
- 1:19:14Speaker 21: the draft, we were just talking and telling me. He
- 1:19:16Speaker 21: was just telling me just just to keep my head
- 1:19:18Speaker 21: down and keep working, you know. And I talked to
- 1:19:21Speaker 21: him about Boston. I was just telling him because when
- 1:19:24Speaker 21: I was when I was there on a visit, I
- 1:19:26Speaker 21: was talking to a lot of people about Cam and
- 1:19:28Speaker 21: it was just a lot of good things saying about him,
- 1:19:30Speaker 21: and I was just telling him, laying the message and
- 1:19:32Speaker 21: stuff like that.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: We were just laughing about it. But that's really it awesome.
- 1:19:37Speaker 9: Thank you and congrats again.
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: All right, that's the initial Baker interesting experience. Yeah, that's
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: exactly the.
- 1:19:53Speaker 7: Experience.
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: A lot of confidence, a lot of confidence. If you
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: want a confident guy, I think you just got him.
- 1:19:59Speaker 7: Yeah, And I do like the confidence. I think there's
- 1:20:02Speaker 7: a swag that goes with that position in cornerback. You know,
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: receivers corners, they go one on one a lot. But yeah,
- 1:20:08Speaker 7: he's he'll get humbled a little bit. That's an experience
- 1:20:11Speaker 7: right there. That guy was He was a lot. Yeah,
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: that was a lot.
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: I mean I can see a guy like that being
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: at Alabama and like this isn't I want to play
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: and getting out of there and going to a place
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: where you know he can get on the field all
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: the time. And you know the numbers show that once
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: he did. Ah, you know, he produced. But yeah, I
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: mean I think to be a wide receiver or a
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: cornerback in this league, you have to have that type
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: of confidence.
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: Yeah, Fred quote here just reading through from the beast.
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: You know, he struggled to see meaningful snaps in Alabama's
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: offense and he said, I just needed to touch the ball.
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: So that's about right now.
- 1:20:52Speaker 8: It's one of those schools that is a feeder of
- 1:20:54Speaker 8: wide receivers. So there's a lot of guys you know
- 1:20:57Speaker 8: that are are transfer in transfer out of these big schools.
- 1:21:01Speaker 8: And you know, a guy like Jamison Williams transferred into
- 1:21:05Speaker 8: Alabama and from our house date, it was a star
- 1:21:07Speaker 8: at Alabama, you know, So it goes both ways that
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: these guys just sometimes coaching staffs have favorites and it's
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: not you and you have to move on.
- 1:21:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: Yeah, but he you know, he definitely believes in himself.
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: There's no doubt about it. So that was that was interesting,
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: apparently doing it from his car. Yeah, probably the quietest
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: place right now he could find to do it.
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: So many podcasts are recorded these days, it's nice and
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: contained space with the sound.
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: Yeah, so that was interesting. And then we had also
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: the guard Yeah, Leaden Robinsonadon Robinson. We have that queued up.
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: Matt Morrell. Yeah, let's let's might as well knock these off.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: The first question from Mike Grease, Hi, Laiden, how you
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: doing doing?
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: Doing great?
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: Well?
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: Start us out laden with just what is what has
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: this day been like for you? What is it like
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: when you hear your name called? You know, when they
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: call you.
- 1:22:03Speaker 26: I mean, it's been great just having a blessing with
- 1:22:06Speaker 26: just being here with me and my family and everybody
- 1:22:08Speaker 26: that's been close to me my whole life, and just
- 1:22:12Speaker 26: having that feeling of the call. It was great and
- 1:22:14Speaker 26: it was a blessing in disguise, and it could have
- 1:22:16Speaker 26: been from a better place leading them.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: Can you tell us where you are and who's with
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: you today?
- 1:22:23Speaker 26: So I'm in Galveston, Texas at this beach house out here,
- 1:22:27Speaker 26: and it's pretty nice. It's amazing, you know, Wendy, and
- 1:22:30Speaker 26: it's fishing sometimes it's really good. Just ring with my grandfather,
- 1:22:34Speaker 26: my uncles, my mom, my cousins, and my godmother.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: It's just a great surrounding of love.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: Next question, Doug kaide.
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: Laden, congratulations. Can you just tell, you know, awesome Patrick's
- 1:22:52Speaker 9: fans a little bit about your game?
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:22:57Speaker 26: Just about my game is you know, I'm a grinder
- 1:23:00Speaker 26: and instilled in me for years for a long time,
- 1:23:02Speaker 26: especially with my coaching staff particising them. You know, just
- 1:23:06Speaker 26: bring to just be a grinder, just going there and
- 1:23:09Speaker 26: be tough, be gritty and go after people over and
- 1:23:13Speaker 26: over and over and over again.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Uh, that's how I do my play style.
- 1:23:17Speaker 26: You know, growing up I always looked up to Larry
- 1:23:21Speaker 26: Allen So and then I love the way that he
- 1:23:22Speaker 26: played the game and great some bread off Salon and
- 1:23:26Speaker 26: like Quinin Nelton, Chrystal Instroom and the guys like that.
- 1:23:29Speaker 26: You know, you see their film and they're popping off
- 1:23:30Speaker 26: a tape with their effort and strain and finishes.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: And that's how I kind of modeled my game.
- 1:23:36Speaker 9: And one other quick question, what kind of contact did
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: you have with the Patriots before the draft and what
- 1:23:41Speaker 9: was that contact like?
- 1:23:42Speaker 26: Uh, the contact was, Uh was great. I mean I
- 1:23:46Speaker 26: talked to everybody a lot at the Senior Bowl. Then
- 1:23:48Speaker 26: we talked at the we kind of visit at the
- 1:23:51Speaker 26: Combine a little bit, and then they did interview me
- 1:23:54Speaker 26: at A and M before the Pro day, So it
- 1:23:57Speaker 26: was kind of like we met a lot and you know,
- 1:24:00Speaker 26: got to know me a lot and know where my
- 1:24:01Speaker 26: football mom was at too.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: As well, and then it was just great communication of everything.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: Next question, so if you will Kel, congratulations again.
- 1:24:16Speaker 24: I was just curious, Uh, what is what has kind
- 1:24:20Speaker 24: of been your impression of the Patriots before this moment
- 1:24:23Speaker 24: and what is it like to kind of hear your
- 1:24:26Speaker 24: name called within that organization?
- 1:24:29Speaker 26: Well, you know, the impression of the Patriots, you know,
- 1:24:32Speaker 26: just a championship chairmpmpionship program. You know, just going there
- 1:24:36Speaker 26: and when I visited, because it was one of my
- 1:24:38Speaker 26: thirty visits, I mean, it was a great feeling and
- 1:24:40Speaker 26: loved the coaches just going around the facility and you
- 1:24:43Speaker 26: see all the previous players and all the accolades and
- 1:24:46Speaker 26: just tradition of the Super Bowl championships that they had
- 1:24:48Speaker 26: in there. You know, that's a winning program and they
- 1:24:51Speaker 26: you know, we're doing everything that we can to try
- 1:24:53Speaker 26: to get this back on the road to becoming a
- 1:24:55Speaker 26: winning to becoming the Super Bowl contending team.
- 1:24:57Speaker 24: Again, and then sorry, just one more. Obviously, Drake may
- 1:25:01Speaker 24: was the first overall pick for the Pick Pass this year.
- 1:25:03Speaker 24: What do you know about him and what's kind of
- 1:25:05Speaker 24: your impression of now getting to play with someone like him.
- 1:25:09Speaker 26: Oh, you know, Drake Mazy got picked in the top
- 1:25:13Speaker 26: in the top ten of the quarterbacks, so it was
- 1:25:15Speaker 26: really good just seeing him get drafted there. I don't
- 1:25:18Speaker 26: know much about him because you know, in the SEC,
- 1:25:21Speaker 26: we didn't really play North Carolina. The only time we
- 1:25:24Speaker 26: played North Carolina I believe was in the in the
- 1:25:27Speaker 26: Orange Bowl a couple of seasons ago. So you know,
- 1:25:30Speaker 26: I really don't know much about him, but I can't
- 1:25:32Speaker 26: wait to get to know much about him and just
- 1:25:34Speaker 26: get to know him as a person, get to know
- 1:25:36Speaker 26: him as a player, and see his mindset, because you know,
- 1:25:38Speaker 26: I played with a lot of different quarterbacks and you
- 1:25:41Speaker 26: get a feel for different guys, and I just can't
- 1:25:43Speaker 26: wait to get to know him and and just see
- 1:25:45Speaker 26: him on the field.
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: Thank you, and welcome to New England.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:25:51Speaker 25: Next question, Mark Daniels Heyl, Congratulations, I see that you
- 1:25:55Speaker 25: started at right guard at Texas A and M.
- 1:25:58Speaker 18: Are you coming to the NFL as a right guard.
- 1:26:00Speaker 25: What type of versatility do you have and are you
- 1:26:02Speaker 25: comfortable playing any other positions on the line.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: Oh, yes, sir, I'm very comfortable playing in positions.
- 1:26:08Speaker 26: Whatever the team needs to me's that's what I'm gonna do,
- 1:26:11Speaker 26: because you know, you always learning anything, you know, I've
- 1:26:14Speaker 26: been I played a couple of snaps at left in
- 1:26:18Speaker 26: camp sometimes and I play and also I will snap
- 1:26:21Speaker 26: the ball after practice every day just in case, just
- 1:26:23Speaker 26: to get those rips. So you know, I'm always open
- 1:26:26Speaker 26: to anything to help the team out. I'm a versatile
- 1:26:29Speaker 26: guy and just anything they needed me, I'm gonna do.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Thank you, Congruts, thank you so much.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: And next question Taylor Kyles.
- 1:26:38Speaker 23: Laden Congratulations, welcome to New England. Manius. Of course, I
- 1:26:42Speaker 23: was curious about your interactions with Alex van Pelt, if
- 1:26:45Speaker 23: you had any, and what he kind of told you
- 1:26:46Speaker 23: about your potential fitting this offense. You know a lot
- 1:26:48Speaker 23: of wide zone play action kind of stuff from what
- 1:26:50Speaker 23: we do on the outside.
- 1:26:52Speaker 26: Just you know, just coming in and just you know,
- 1:26:55Speaker 26: understanding everything and basically just getting after it, you know,
- 1:26:58Speaker 26: just like running off the ball and getting after everything.
- 1:27:01Speaker 26: You know, That's the main thing with they talked to
- 1:27:03Speaker 26: me about out there, you know, because you know a
- 1:27:05Speaker 26: lot of people talked about my play style and how
- 1:27:07Speaker 26: like coming off the ball and how is you know,
- 1:27:09Speaker 26: just my greatest attribute, And they're right, that is my
- 1:27:11Speaker 26: greatest attribute. I got things I need to work on,
- 1:27:13Speaker 26: and I'm gonna get them done, and I'm gonna work
- 1:27:15Speaker 26: on because I know what I have to work on.
- 1:27:16Speaker 26: But you know, just just society to be there, that's
- 1:27:19Speaker 26: just everything. You know, I'm just decided I have to
- 1:27:21Speaker 26: be there and get to work and just go crazy.
- 1:27:23Speaker 26: And speaking of which, what are some of those improvements
- 1:27:25Speaker 26: for your game? If you don't mind me asking, just
- 1:27:27Speaker 26: the improvements of my game, you know, just basically the
- 1:27:29Speaker 26: technical side of the pass protection because you know, you know,
- 1:27:32Speaker 26: I got some good reps in but you know, there's
- 1:27:34Speaker 26: a lot of reps that I could have improved on better.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: And I've seen that and I broke down that film
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: and I know what I need to get better at.
- 1:27:40Speaker 26: And so now you know, I just got to get
- 1:27:41Speaker 26: in there and then attack all my weaknesses and then
- 1:27:43Speaker 26: make them my strengths.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: All congratulations, Yeah, man, thank you, thank you.
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: It's like that's all the questions for today, so thank
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: you so much for joining us.
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: All right, so that's Laden Robinson and his first encounter
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: with the New England media is welcome to New England. Yeah,
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: welcome to New England.
- 1:28:03Speaker 7: You know, because congratulations, man, I wasn't supposed to say
- 1:28:07Speaker 7: that was just a question to say anything. It's a
- 1:28:11Speaker 7: press conference, ask a question, right, I've done those for
- 1:28:14Speaker 7: twenty five years. I've never once done that once and
- 1:28:16Speaker 7: I can honestly tell you that I am.
- 1:28:18Speaker 8: Also curiously, I'm just trying to play the other side
- 1:28:22Speaker 8: a little bit. These are people that once next season
- 1:28:26Speaker 8: comes around, we try to establish a poor wist, so
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: God forbid we be human beings and say some pleasantries
- 1:28:32Speaker 8: before we get into the question.
- 1:28:33Speaker 7: And that's all you're trying to do. What like that,
- 1:28:37Speaker 7: trying to suck up. Just ask your question. It's not
- 1:28:39Speaker 7: your job, they're not your friends. There are people you're covering.
- 1:28:43Speaker 7: Ask your question and move on for the next person
- 1:28:45Speaker 7: so they can ask their question.
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: You'll see him in the locker room and you'll say
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: it and you can say hello and introduce yourself.
- 1:28:50Speaker 7: And that's a congratulations time. Did you welcome into New England.
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: No, you didn't get the hell out.
- 1:28:55Speaker 7: I remember then.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: I remember when we had that web you said, congratulate,
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: thank you. Now you're my favorite media member.
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: It is a welcome to New England. Is the new
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: I'm just curious that was our initial like press conference, bugaboo,
- 1:29:11Speaker 6: just curious.
- 1:29:12Speaker 8: I mean when I was in journalism school, one of
- 1:29:14Speaker 8: my professors said that if he ever heard me say,
- 1:29:17Speaker 8: talk about talk about your feelings on this, asked a question, yeah,
- 1:29:21Speaker 8: that he will personally call me himself and yell at
- 1:29:25Speaker 8: me talk about you on lawn order.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: That would be an objection because no question was asked.
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, oh there you go, Yeah sustained.
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: Yeah, is there a question?
- 1:29:34Speaker 6: Is there a question which tomorrow you need a law order?
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: Yeap?
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: All right, So that's that's great. We're waiting for the
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: Patriots next pick, but it won't be during this show
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: as of now, because they don't have a pick until
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: the sixth round and we're still in the fifth round.
- 1:29:52Speaker 8: Yeah, not even on the ticker all the way one
- 1:29:54Speaker 8: eighty yeah, but they do.
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: They do have two picks in the sixth round, so
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: you never know. They can move into the bottom of
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: the fifth some body that they're intrigued with down there.
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: I don't see. I don't think it's likely, but we'll see.
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: No, like I said, last year was nuts, like day three,
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: Well they have nine guys, I mean, especially when you
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: get to this point, you're kind of out of steam.
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: And then they just were like rattling off pick after pick.
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: I know, Pop Douglas gave us a little all right,
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: that's exciting, you know.
- 1:30:20Speaker 8: I mean last year was that draft was after Gonzo,
- 1:30:23Speaker 8: between Gonzo and Pop Douglas. That was a rough run
- 1:30:26Speaker 8: for me. I was, I was pretty disappointed. And then
- 1:30:29Speaker 8: they saved the draft with with Pop.
- 1:30:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: I mean that, you know that the new guard there,
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: he seems you know, he seems like a good dude.
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: I just that that is the one pick I think
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: you could probably question about.
- 1:30:40Speaker 7: That was like the polar opposite though in terms of
- 1:30:42Speaker 7: the press free, like very.
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: I'm with my whole family here in a beautiful place.
- 1:30:46Speaker 7: Very you know, just very straightforward, very focused, you know,
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: Whereas Baker was like in his car kind of looking around,
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: you know, obviously had a lot of colorful things to say,
- 1:30:56Speaker 7: this guy was a little bit more conservative. Yah Robinson.
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: So yeah, two different personalities, but offensive.
- 1:31:02Speaker 6: Lineman and a wide receiver kind of embodies those personalities, right, absolutely.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:06Speaker 8: I thought that he described his own playing style very accurately,
- 1:31:10Speaker 8: which is not have.
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: You ever disagreed with someone with their own playing style
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: and like that's not you?
- 1:31:15Speaker 8: Uh No, I mean sometimes like some guy you know,
- 1:31:19Speaker 8: always get to oh, who did you model your game after?
- 1:31:21Speaker 8: And I always feel like that sets up unfair expectations
- 1:31:24Speaker 8: because they always say it's always going to be a
- 1:31:26Speaker 8: good player, Like, it's not, Oh, I modeled my game
- 1:31:28Speaker 8: after Kishon Booty, It's going to be I modeled my
- 1:31:30Speaker 8: game after Keenan Allen.
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: You know, tell me about your self awareness, you, sir,
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: are no Keenan Allen.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Let's get back to the Ace ticket hutline Web Brady,
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: I'm eight five five pats five hundred and of course
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: web radio at pitches dot com is the email address
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: Jason's been holding on from Florida. What's up, Jason? Hey?
- 1:31:47Speaker 26: How you doing?
- 1:31:48Speaker 14: Can you hear me?
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: We can?
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: Yep?
- 1:31:51Speaker 10: Awesome, Hey, great coverage.
- 1:31:52Speaker 27: I love the draft now and I would say past nations.
- 1:31:57Speaker 10: One question for you, how.
- 1:31:59Speaker 27: Do you think may how are they going to handle
- 1:32:02Speaker 27: Drake may bring training camp.
- 1:32:06Speaker 16: If he appears to.
- 1:32:08Speaker 27: Be the clear cut best quarterback.
- 1:32:10Speaker 14: Are they gonna start him week one?
- 1:32:13Speaker 27: It's obviously going to be a difficult decision, probably a
- 1:32:16Speaker 27: lot of pressure on Mail, but like here, yeah, it's it's.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: A good question to handle that. Yeah, well I'll let
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: you hang up because your phone stinks. But anyway, no
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: good question if he if he's if he is the
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: clear cut, do you start him? And I think, first
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: of all, I think would everyone agreed probably the reps
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: will be split pretty much between him and per set
- 1:32:36Speaker 5: ZAPPI getting.
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: Some I wonder if he's clear second team for a
- 1:32:39Speaker 8: little bit, just to not as any sort of mischief,
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: like I remember Max tricky year. Cam was always first,
- 1:32:47Speaker 8: but Mac would then go on like a twenty reperunt, right,
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: And so obviously they were giving all the developmental opportunities
- 1:32:53Speaker 8: to Mac. But when it looked like, you know, looked
- 1:32:57Speaker 8: like Cam was the starter in air quotes, and I
- 1:33:00Speaker 8: think Cam himself said it after he got cut. He
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: was like, I probably should have realized this guy's I'm
- 1:33:05Speaker 8: getting five reps and then this guy's getting twenty five reps.
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: The order didn't really necessarily matter in that guy.
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: My thing is I think follow Jacoby Brissett around, like
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: attach yourself at the hip to Jacoby Brissett. But I
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: think that there'll be some inconsistencies from Drake main practice,
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: but they'll probably be some wow moments too where he
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: just like in corks a couple of balls and you see.
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: But I'd be really surprised to see him make that
- 1:33:27Speaker 6: push that Matt Mac just look kind of comfortable right
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: from the get go, especially in the pocket. I mean,
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: it sounds weird to say now I think Drake May's
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: gonna have those things like the simple.
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: Well, what would you have to see to say we
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: got to start this guy right away?
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: I need to see him in the pocket, comfortable, getting
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: the ball out, quick, hitting guys in stride right away,
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: you know, which is kind of what Mac what I thought,
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: Mac did?
- 1:33:47Speaker 8: I think that's really it is the timing, you know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: is he because it's I don't think it's gonna be
- 1:33:52Speaker 8: a talent thing. It's gonna be between the ears of
- 1:33:54Speaker 8: is he understanding the play the play calls, understanding the playbook,
- 1:33:59Speaker 8: understanding the checks, things he has to do with the
- 1:34:01Speaker 8: line of scrimmage, throwing on time, throwing with anticipation, you know,
- 1:34:05Speaker 8: those types of things. I I it's not gonna be Oh,
- 1:34:07Speaker 8: this guy doesn't have a good enough arm.
- 1:34:10Speaker 7: Comes out on time consistently, And I don't I mean,
- 1:34:13Speaker 7: it's a great question that the caller asked. I. I
- 1:34:17Speaker 7: don't know if he's head and shoulders the best. I
- 1:34:19Speaker 7: don't know if he'll start week one. You know, they
- 1:34:22Speaker 7: might just not want to start him right away, Yeah,
- 1:34:25Speaker 7: which I would be disappointed.
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: And if he's if you know, you want to see
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: him a least get a chance.
- 1:34:29Speaker 7: No, what I'm saying is if he is clearly the
- 1:34:32Speaker 7: best quarterback, then he should play. But I don't, you know,
- 1:34:35Speaker 7: I'm not sure that that will be the case.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: Well, here's the thing. And I was gonna mention it
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: yesterday and we ran out of time. But if he does,
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: if and when he does play and say, okay, you're
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: gonna you're gonna start from this point on, I hope
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: they don't make the same mistake they.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: Made with Mac.
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: And that mistake is that leash that they had on
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: him and not you know, being afraid to allow to
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: make him make mistakes. You have to do that. You
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: have to understand your limitations and make those mistakes so
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: you learn, and I think I.
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: Think they will. I think they I think it's different.
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: Careful.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: I agree with you.
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: I know exactly what your point is. And you're thinking
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: back to like the first you know, six or eight weeks,
- 1:35:15Speaker 7: where it was they threw the ball all over the place,
- 1:35:18Speaker 7: but you know, in a very controlled way. I just
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: think that that was best for Mac. Yeah, and I
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: think this that wouldn't necessarily be best for Drake May.
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: In my opinion, I think it's the opposite.
- 1:35:29Speaker 8: I'm actually a little bit concerned that they're going to
- 1:35:31Speaker 8: try to take away the gunslinger in Drake May, and
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: even as he matures it throughout the rest of his career,
- 1:35:39Speaker 8: he's gonna have a little bit of Josh Allen in
- 1:35:41Speaker 8: him where he's gonna make some mistakes and turn the
- 1:35:43Speaker 8: ball over a little bit. But if you if you
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: harness that and you pull them in, then that's taking
- 1:35:48Speaker 8: away his superpower you got. He's gonna be one of
- 1:35:51Speaker 8: those guys that's gonna be volatile at times and you
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: have to just ride the wave and know that at
- 1:35:56Speaker 8: the end you're gonna put up thirty five. You know,
- 1:35:58Speaker 8: hopefully obviously, so.
- 1:36:00Speaker 7: You got you might be right. I think that they'll
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: look at it different like Mac. I think if you
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: would let him, if he had taken the leash off,
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: then it would have unraveled a lot before, would have
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: looked like it did well.
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: And then maybe we'd know a little bit sooner too.
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Maybe.
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: So I think they handled Mac right because I think
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: they played to his limitations. Now what they did in
- 1:36:20Speaker 7: year two and year three is a different story. I
- 1:36:22Speaker 7: mean the rookie year. But if if Drake May is
- 1:36:28Speaker 7: showing an understanding of the offense right away, I want
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: him to play as a rookie. It doesn't have to
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: be week one, but I want him to play meaningful games.
- 1:36:37Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: You know it's gonna be funny though, is that he'll
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: have those reps where he doesn't quite know what he's
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: doing or way to go to the ball, and he'll
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: just tuck it and start running and it'll it'll look
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: kind of impressive. Then you'll have half the media is
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: going to say, well, he didn't know what he's doing
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: all and the other house is going to say, man,
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: he looks good on the hoof, you know that.
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: I mean, he's that kind of player. Yeah, and that
- 1:36:55Speaker 7: will happen in games, like he's an excellent runner, yeah, excellent.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: Driver, yeah, but in practice they're going to have to
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: tell him you can't run, you know, You've got to
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: have complete the play.
- 1:37:08Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, but he is a really good runner.
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:11Speaker 8: That's something that I haven't talked a ton about with
- 1:37:13Speaker 8: him because I think that there's so much to talk
- 1:37:15Speaker 8: about with the passing, both on the good and the
- 1:37:17Speaker 8: bad end with him, that we've take up most of
- 1:37:20Speaker 8: our time doing that. But over the last two years,
- 1:37:22Speaker 8: I think in twenty twenty two, he might have like
- 1:37:24Speaker 8: sixteen rushing touchdowns over the last two years or something
- 1:37:27Speaker 8: like that. You know, not only is he a good
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: runner that he can pick up first downs on third
- 1:37:30Speaker 8: and five, but he's also a good goal line runner.
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: If you want to use him like that, that you
- 1:37:34Speaker 8: can have him be you know what Cam Newton was
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: in twenty twenty where he's punching it in for you
- 1:37:39Speaker 8: as well.
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: Let's go to Joe in Texas. Hey, Joseph, Hey, how
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: y'all doing you know? Yep?
- 1:37:45Speaker 28: Hey, Joe, all right, I got a couple of questions
- 1:37:48Speaker 28: about time into each other. How confident are y'all that
- 1:37:51Speaker 28: will be a winning team this season on a scale
- 1:37:53Speaker 28: from one to ten with the way the offseason is
- 1:37:56Speaker 28: going so far. Also, we had a sliver of hope
- 1:38:00Speaker 28: with the seven win streak with Mac a couple of
- 1:38:02Speaker 28: years ago before things went tower the season after. How
- 1:38:05Speaker 28: much are y'all gonna have to see now that we've
- 1:38:07Speaker 28: had that experience getting let down to actually have confidence
- 1:38:10Speaker 28: in us being a legitimate playoff contender again.
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't have a lot of confidence that will
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: be a winning team this year, but I do have
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: I'm very, very hopeful that we'll have the indications that
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: the team's on the on the rise, that there's hope
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: for the future. But I don't think it's going to
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: translate to you know, above five hundred or you know,
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: getting close to the playoffs this year.
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: I hope I'm wrong, right, But well, you want to
- 1:38:36Speaker 6: see you want to see these offensive line pieces come together,
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: and to say, out of all these draft picks and
- 1:38:41Speaker 6: free agents that we've signed over the last couple years
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: on the offensive line, if we can get through this
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: year and into this year, and hopefully these guys are
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: the ones that are under contract, Like, hey, we feel
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: like we've got an offensive line.
- 1:38:50Speaker 10: Now.
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: If these rookie wide receivers step in and bump some
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: of the guys that we've been disappointed in off the roster,
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: and those guys are contributing, and it seems like, you know,
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: and then all of a sudden, you get the thing
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: that everybody wanted, which is that the offensive line is
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: in place. We've got some weapons, we're ready for Drake
- 1:39:03Speaker 6: may now to take the keys, and he has stuff
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: to work with and the protection.
- 1:39:07Speaker 7: Those are all the examples of the things that we
- 1:39:09Speaker 7: always say, well know when we see it. I don't
- 1:39:12Speaker 7: have a number to quantify it. I don't I can't
- 1:39:14Speaker 7: put a finger on what I would say is progress.
- 1:39:16Speaker 7: But all those things that you just said. If Baker
- 1:39:19Speaker 7: and Polk are there instead of Jalen Raeger and Juju
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: Smith Schuster, that's a sign of development. If you have
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: maybe seven guys who start on the offensive line instead
- 1:39:34Speaker 7: of you know, the twenty eight that did last year
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: or whatever it was, that's a sign of development. I
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: don't know what the record will be at the end
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: of the year. It probably won't be all that much different,
- 1:39:44Speaker 7: but that will be a lot more encouraging to me.
- 1:39:46Speaker 7: I mean, this has taken obviously aside from the only
- 1:39:49Speaker 7: thing that really matters and Drake May. You know, you
- 1:39:54Speaker 7: can have some of those things happen or none of
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: those things happen. If Drake May is c J. Stroud,
- 1:39:58Speaker 7: you're going to be better both on the field, record
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: wise and development wise. But I'm assuming that you're not
- 1:40:05Speaker 7: going to get that meteoric. Yeah, you know, but rise
- 1:40:07Speaker 7: into the league.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: Like Paul said, you're gonna have to see it. I mean,
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: if you'll see it, you'll know if Bassett starts and
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: the Patriots are two and six and then they put
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: in Drake May, and Drake May wins four or five
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: games down the stretch will be like sky high.
- 1:40:19Speaker 7: Well I would be sky high. But even if Drake
- 1:40:22Speaker 7: May goes in and goes two and six as well.
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: But Javon Baker's catching a couple of passes here and there,
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: and Jalen Polk is doing this over there, and you know,
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: maybe Kaylen Wallace is playing some tackle. Maybe he's the
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: swing tackle and he you know, when someone gets hurt
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: and he has to play and it doesn't fall apart.
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: Those are things that I think would be really encouraging
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: like again, you could have the same record, but you
- 1:40:46Speaker 7: know it, you know, you kind of know when you
- 1:40:47Speaker 7: see it, when when you're plugging in Verderian Lowe and
- 1:40:52Speaker 7: you know he's not the answer, and Calvin Anderson and
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: or whatever was going on with him last year with
- 1:40:57Speaker 7: that mysterious illness, and it's just one different guy after another,
- 1:41:01Speaker 7: Conor McDermott, and you know who knows who's playing guard.
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: There's they're alternating series with guards. You remember that, Remember
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: that period where Strange was playing one series and then
- 1:41:11Speaker 7: Mafia would come in the net, Like that's not ideal.
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean Matt gro said, the worst thing is
- 1:41:16Speaker 8: to not have any tackles and and you're you're scrambling
- 1:41:19Speaker 8: at tackle, and that's what that's what they were doing
- 1:41:22Speaker 8: last year. I understand people calling in. Everybody thinks I
- 1:41:27Speaker 8: pick on the callers. I'm not picking on the callers,
- 1:41:30Speaker 8: but I it's hard for us to sit here, I
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: think and say that their four wins better, they're three
- 1:41:36Speaker 8: wins better, they're five wins better. Even in I don't
- 1:41:40Speaker 8: even know if I could say that at the end
- 1:41:41Speaker 8: of training camp, like I don't know when we're gonna
- 1:41:43Speaker 8: like I don't really do well with that. We so
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: much of it is so random too, right, It's just
- 1:41:49Speaker 8: to Paul's point, it's just all about how does it look?
- 1:41:51Speaker 8: You know, who's playing, and is it developing? And does
- 1:41:54Speaker 8: Jalen does it finally look like they hit on a
- 1:41:56Speaker 8: receiver with Jalen Polk and Javon Baker, And you know,
- 1:42:00Speaker 8: how about the offensive line? Is the defense you know,
- 1:42:02Speaker 8: still a really good defense, and it's not necessarily gonna
- 1:42:07Speaker 8: result in like they're gonna win ten games next year.
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: If the same exact team played the same exact schedule
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: last year, all the same personnel, everybody that got hurt
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: got hurt. Yeah, every guy that was available for every game.
- 1:42:21Speaker 7: I'm not telling you they would have gone four and thirteen.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: Again.
- 1:42:23Speaker 7: They might only won two games, they might have won six.
- 1:42:26Speaker 7: I'll like, there's such a randomness to it with so
- 1:42:29Speaker 7: many of those games come down to the last. How
- 1:42:31Speaker 7: many times does Bill tell you it came down to
- 1:42:33Speaker 7: a couple of plays and unfortunately they made the plays. Yeah, Now,
- 1:42:36Speaker 7: I'm not telling you they could have played the whole
- 1:42:38Speaker 7: season over again and gone thirteen and four instead of
- 1:42:41Speaker 7: four and thirteen. That wasn't possible, but it was possible
- 1:42:44Speaker 7: that they could have won five to six seven games
- 1:42:47Speaker 7: based on the way the game the game's unfolded, and
- 1:42:49Speaker 7: they might only won two if they unfolded differently.
- 1:42:52Speaker 6: Sometimes they get shut out at least once.
- 1:42:56Speaker 7: I remember the one here six nothing against the child?
- 1:42:58Speaker 7: Is that the only one?
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: Jay in Minnesota? What's up? Jay?
- 1:43:03Speaker 29: Hello, guys, we'll be having a good Saturday. I called
- 1:43:06Speaker 29: him yesterday to catch twenty two and I asked Evan
- 1:43:09Speaker 29: and Alex about the prototype receiver that were best fit
- 1:43:12Speaker 29: Drake May and I was kind of shocked that so
- 1:43:15Speaker 29: many teams passed up on Ady Mitchell, and he felt
- 1:43:17Speaker 29: so far, I'm not so with the whole pick really,
- 1:43:20Speaker 29: but I'm kind of wondering why they would go with
- 1:43:23Speaker 29: Baker over his teammates, says Walker.
- 1:43:26Speaker 16: Knowing that he went two picks later.
- 1:43:28Speaker 29: I think, I feel like that's a lot of development
- 1:43:31Speaker 29: that they already have, and I'm kind of concerned why
- 1:43:33Speaker 29: they didn't pick them. But I can also see why
- 1:43:36Speaker 29: Paul is concerned with Baker because those outward receivers, you know,
- 1:43:41Speaker 29: who are talking a lot. They can either go for
- 1:43:44Speaker 29: a thousand yards d season or they could barely make
- 1:43:47Speaker 29: it out of training account. So I kind of see
- 1:43:49Speaker 29: the concern. But I'm wondering why they don't go with,
- 1:43:52Speaker 29: says Walker.
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I just think they're going to hope that they
- 1:43:56Speaker 6: developed chemistry. And it's just two years together. I mean,
- 1:43:58Speaker 6: how much did they play together too?
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: Years ago?
- 1:44:00Speaker 8: Honestly, last year they didn't play a ton together because
- 1:44:02Speaker 8: tes Walker, he was ineligible for a while because of
- 1:44:06Speaker 8: a transfer.
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: You make it up, you go with the better player.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: I mean, you know it'll be quick before he has
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: as much experience playing, you know, with Drake as what
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: test Ive.
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: Been on records saying, I like Baker more than Walker anyway,
- 1:44:18Speaker 7: but I am I'm not gonna lie that guy's name
- 1:44:22Speaker 7: as much. He was a little bit much. Really interesting.
- 1:44:25Speaker 7: Just back to the draft, Spencer Rattler just went to
- 1:44:28Speaker 7: the Saints.
- 1:44:28Speaker 8: I think it's the first quarterback.
- 1:44:30Speaker 7: Yeah, a record since shows the record long streak of
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: well Over. Get him quick, get one hundred and thirty
- 1:44:37Speaker 7: picks or something.
- 1:44:38Speaker 8: I just think that, you know, back to one hundred
- 1:44:40Speaker 8: and forty picks. Walker and Baker quickly they clearly And
- 1:44:45Speaker 8: when I asked grow about this, he taught he said
- 1:44:46Speaker 8: that you know, that's the league, and tested catches and
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: finishing in traffic and that type of stuff is the league.
- 1:44:52Speaker 8: And the biggest knock on Tess Walker is his hands.
- 1:44:55Speaker 8: Tons of drops on film and I really struggled to
- 1:44:58Speaker 8: finish through contact at the Senior Bowl against you know,
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: NFL caliber corners just not no. Like, they're very, very
- 1:45:04Speaker 8: different types of players. Like Tess Walker is this developmental
- 1:45:07Speaker 8: vertical threat. Javon Baker is a much more physical player.
- 1:45:12Speaker 8: It's not that different than the conversations we were having
- 1:45:15Speaker 8: about Jalen Polk and some of the other guys, you know,
- 1:45:17Speaker 8: a Lad McConkey or a Troy Franklin or somebody like that.
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: So they they're clearly going after a certain type of receiver,
- 1:45:24Speaker 8: you know, physical, tough, good catch radius, good hands, you
- 1:45:28Speaker 8: know that type of player versus you know, a guy
- 1:45:30Speaker 8: like Ted Walker, who's really just a one trick pony.
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: John's in LA. What's up, John?
- 1:45:37Speaker 27: Hey, I just wanted to say to everybody, thank you
- 1:45:40Speaker 27: so much for the draft coverage that like from them
- 1:45:44Speaker 27: in the middle of last season through today. It's unbelievably great.
- 1:45:49Speaker 27: Evans made a great difference eposed to Alex bart and
- 1:45:53Speaker 27: and all of your guys work Mastis and Paul and
- 1:45:58Speaker 27: everybody curtain.
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: Calls being great.
- 1:46:00Speaker 8: We don't have to give Barth credit though he's a
- 1:46:02Speaker 8: different stations.
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: Well, he's an insider, so he's got a leg up
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: on just kidding.
- 1:46:07Speaker 27: Well, he's been like revolutionized, really good and appreciate it
- 1:46:14Speaker 27: quick thing.
- 1:46:15Speaker 14: Of course, of course, thank you. If each of you
- 1:46:19Speaker 14: had one guy.
- 1:46:20Speaker 29: One pick that you could just overrule and take somebody else.
- 1:46:23Speaker 27: And I'll go for Fred Firstconi everybody else, well, no, you.
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: Know what I would have I would have liked to
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: have seen them take Christian Mahogany the BC guard instead
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: of uh, yeah.
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:46:37Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good one, I might say, Uh, probably
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: the big TCU tight end over the over the guard.
- 1:46:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean the guard is probably the pick that
- 1:46:46Speaker 8: bugs me the most just because of the position. Yeah,
- 1:46:49Speaker 8: but I feel like they they kind of missed the
- 1:46:52Speaker 8: run on the tackles on day two a little bit.
- 1:46:55Speaker 8: And how much would it have cost them to move
- 1:46:58Speaker 8: up ten picks to take Kingsley's to Matia from the Chiefs,
- 1:47:01Speaker 8: you know, or you know one of those guys that
- 1:47:04Speaker 8: was maybe a little bit earlier. I know that that's
- 1:47:06Speaker 8: kind of overcomplicating it because now you're trading up and
- 1:47:08Speaker 8: you're doing other things. But I don't hate Wallace. I
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: just think that his ceiling is kind of like swing tackle,
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: you know, OT three. I don't really see him as
- 1:47:19Speaker 8: starting caliber on the at least on the outside. Maybe
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: at guard he could be a starting guard, but at tackle,
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: I think that that's pushing it a little bit. Where
- 1:47:27Speaker 8: they had moved up like ten picks or so, they
- 1:47:29Speaker 8: might have been able to grab one of those last
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: starting caliber trade type of guards.
- 1:47:35Speaker 7: I would answer just by saying, I really like, you
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: know pretty much all the picks so far. I would
- 1:47:40Speaker 7: maybe I just would say, just to give you one
- 1:47:43Speaker 7: is is at Ni Mitchell instead of Jalen Polk. But
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: I know what everybody's talking about with with Mitchell. There
- 1:47:50Speaker 7: might be red flags all over the place for him,
- 1:47:53Speaker 7: So I think he might have been off the board.
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: Being Fresno writes in the Javon Baker quotes are a riot.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: The guy might the guy might be a total maniac.
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: Wonder if Mayo's regime will be more permissive with this
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: sort of stuff than Bill was.
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: There's good and bad with that, Yeah, I mean that's
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: he got to get him out there, see, I mean
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: come out.
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: He's got to get out there and show it. I
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: mean it's all talk until you do it. And he's
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: going to learn that real quick.
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: Yeah, you know it's and he's stepping into a place
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: where there's just a lot of competition. And I won't
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: say there's you know, high level competition, but you know
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: there's professional NFL receivers in this group that have had
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: that have played in this at this level. So you know,
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: it's it's it's no easy task to come in and
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: take Juju smith Schuster's job, even though I think he
- 1:48:37Speaker 6: probably should. And you know, same with Taekwon Thornton. I
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: mean he's he's pouring everything he has into this season too,
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: So I think it's it's gonna all cold. I say, Paul,
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: iron sharpen, what iron sharpens, iron tires of iron itself.
- 1:48:50Speaker 7: So there you correct. So here's a you know, I
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: know we only have like ten or fifteen minutes here,
- 1:48:55Speaker 7: but Juju, I wonder, you know, like they've made a
- 1:48:58Speaker 7: lot of like the amount of app space that they've
- 1:49:01Speaker 7: sort of maintained just eat it. I wonder if they're
- 1:49:04Speaker 7: playing it on you know, we got we got a
- 1:49:05Speaker 7: couple of guys here. I wonder if they're just playing
- 1:49:07Speaker 7: a bite in the bullet and eating that cap space,
- 1:49:09Speaker 7: because he would be the one guy, like you said,
- 1:49:11Speaker 7: like they have a lot of NFL receivers and there
- 1:49:13Speaker 7: that he would be the one I would say qualifies
- 1:49:15Speaker 7: as that. Like I don't think Jalen Rager has ever
- 1:49:18Speaker 7: been in an NFL caliber. He's a first round pick,
- 1:49:20Speaker 7: had all kinds of pedigree, but he's never really done
- 1:49:22Speaker 7: it as a wid wide receiver. And this is multiple
- 1:49:25Speaker 7: spots now, It's not like the Pageots drafted him and
- 1:49:28Speaker 7: hasn't worked out. He's been in Philly, he's been in Minnesota,
- 1:49:31Speaker 7: he's been here. Yeah, you know when aside from returning
- 1:49:34Speaker 7: a kick for a touchdown, I don't really think he's
- 1:49:35Speaker 7: done much as an NFL player. I would say the
- 1:49:38Speaker 7: same with Taekwon Thowton, the second round pick, been here
- 1:49:41Speaker 7: a couple of years, hasn't really created a niche for himself.
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: But I'd say going deeper Osborne and Bourne and I'm
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: trying to push those down question, trying to push down
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: the depth chart, trying to get on the field, not
- 1:49:51Speaker 6: just off the roster, but you know, trying to get
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: get those reps so that we can get to that
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: point like.
- 1:49:55Speaker 7: We talked about.
- 1:49:56Speaker 8: No, you're right, Osborne Douglas Bourne are on this team,
- 1:49:59Speaker 8: and now the two rookies are going to be on
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: the team. I mean, you're not going to cut a
- 1:50:02Speaker 8: fourth round pick unless he's an absolute disaster. So, uh,
- 1:50:05Speaker 8: those five guys, and are you going to keep a
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: sixth receiver? Maybe that's where you have to keep Juju
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: just because of the money situation, is the sixth receiver.
- 1:50:13Speaker 8: But then you know that's it for Taekwon, which I'm
- 1:50:16Speaker 8: not saying it.
- 1:50:16Speaker 7: But did you just cut? Like that wasn't that hard?
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:50:20Speaker 7: Like there's a lot of bodies, there's a lot of names,
- 1:50:24Speaker 7: but no one. But it's kind of no one. I
- 1:50:25Speaker 7: don't think that anybody. I don't be really disappointed. Now
- 1:50:28Speaker 7: we'll get because we get you know, people that are
- 1:50:31Speaker 7: going to question everything. You know, we'll get. You know,
- 1:50:34Speaker 7: how could they let go of Booty? You know there too?
- 1:50:38Speaker 7: You know what, people didn't get his foot down? What
- 1:50:39Speaker 7: are you gonna do? People will be upset about fulger
- 1:50:42Speaker 7: mask claim it's because you didn't get his foot in bound.
- 1:50:44Speaker 8: His whole career would have been different if he just
- 1:50:46Speaker 8: got his foot in It's like Nikhil Harry on the
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: fumbles against Kansas City.
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: You know man or you know Polke will have a
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: good dame. What about Pop?
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:50:54Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: Chris writes in Why All the Haiti says, it's clear.
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: I think that it's a aren't that they are drafting
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: around their new quarterback. These two wide receivers have great hands,
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: they track the ball and are tough at the catch point.
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: I think the Patriots are gonna get some of We
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: got our guys. It also sends a message to the
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: wide receiver and o line depth chart that you are
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: all on notice and everyone's not going to be on
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: the team next year. With that said, who do you
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: think are some surprise or not so surprise cuts for
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: those positions this year? But it's a little early for
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: that question.
- 1:51:27Speaker 7: I like it A wide receiver, yeah, I don't think
- 1:51:29Speaker 7: you're gonna get a surprise cut, No surprise. I think
- 1:51:31Speaker 7: Evan just gave you the depth chart, and I don't
- 1:51:33Speaker 7: think there'll be any surprises.
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: I mean, if Bourne got cut, I'd be surprised.
- 1:51:37Speaker 7: Yeah, that would be a surprise.
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: I don't think Osborne too.
- 1:51:41Speaker 7: Osborne, the two rookies, and probably to Mario Douglas. I
- 1:51:45Speaker 7: think those would be the only surprises.
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: And I think right now they're lost.
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: I think they're all going to be here.
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I like it. This is a rebuild draft. Let's
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: all wait and see them develop before we start criticizing
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: the process. This seems different than other drafts for this,
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: I'm excited it.
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean i'd look. I mean, you can't really
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: even look at the defense for surprise cuts at this point,
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: but you know, you look into the the offensive line,
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: you know, is Cold Strange and and Antonio Maffi.
- 1:52:11Speaker 8: I really do wonder about so Cold Strange has the
- 1:52:14Speaker 8: is coming off an injury also, and there's some reports
- 1:52:17Speaker 8: out there already that he might not be ready for
- 1:52:20Speaker 8: training camp.
- 1:52:21Speaker 7: Zoe said he was ahead of schedule the other day. Okay,
- 1:52:23Speaker 7: what's like, what's what's the schedule?
- 1:52:25Speaker 8: Maybe maybe that made this report about him not necessarily
- 1:52:32Speaker 8: being ready.
- 1:52:32Speaker 7: I believe that more than what I heard.
- 1:52:34Speaker 8: Well, that was that was from February at the Combine,
- 1:52:37Speaker 8: and uh, you know, between that and the fact that
- 1:52:40Speaker 8: he's just been injured, a lot, like he's that guy.
- 1:52:42Speaker 8: He's had a durability and issue at this point, like.
- 1:52:45Speaker 7: He's got like a kind of a size strength kind
- 1:52:48Speaker 7: of yeah problem. Yeah.
- 1:52:49Speaker 8: I do wonder if maybe they just cut their losses.
- 1:52:52Speaker 8: They're like, well, that was a bad pick, and we're
- 1:52:54Speaker 8: we're moving on.
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: It's so disappointing how that all went down. Like I
- 1:52:58Speaker 6: just in training camp, like the first day of pads.
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: You're you're excited to see some contact, to see some
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: real football quote unquote, and then just like that, he's
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: over and Dante's inferno getting checked out and he's taking some.
- 1:53:09Speaker 7: Steps and you're like, is he okays? You know, he's
- 1:53:12Speaker 7: not getting carted off? And here we are.
- 1:53:14Speaker 8: You know, Yeah, that's what that pick was.
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: Chad's in Illinois. What's up, Chad? Chad?
- 1:53:26Speaker 7: Chad?
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: Okay, hold it on that one.
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: I gotta tell Hardy my story about Zoe.
- 1:53:32Speaker 7: He'd appreciate that. Yeah he does.
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: Franklin writes in pretty sure, you guys already discussed this,
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: but I strongly feel Thornton's time with the team is over.
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: On the one hand, I feel bad for him because
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: it's not his fault he got overdrafted, but On the
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: other hand, I'm not exactly sad at saying Addio's to
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: the last remnant of Bill's terrible wide receiver picks.
- 1:53:51Speaker 7: Fair.
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: Yeah, he is doing a lot of bench pressing.
- 1:53:55Speaker 7: Now, what I don't think is fair as what I'm
- 1:53:56Speaker 7: starting to hear a little of, Like, you know, this
- 1:53:59Speaker 7: draft was so refreshing, so different. Yeah, it's like, yeah,
- 1:54:03Speaker 7: it's it's kind of amazing when you have the third
- 1:54:05Speaker 7: pick in every rounds.
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: But the needs were so obvious, and they got three
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: guys at those.
- 1:54:14Speaker 7: Bill Belichick, right, you know, mystery, couldn't do anything, couldn't
- 1:54:17Speaker 7: tie your shoes. Evidently somehow stumbled into six titles. When
- 1:54:21Speaker 7: he was on the he was on the McAfee thing.
- 1:54:23Speaker 5: I agree, I agree.
- 1:54:25Speaker 6: I love when Paul's on Bill side of the street.
- 1:54:27Speaker 7: No, I agree, because I'm going to criticize Bill a
- 1:54:29Speaker 7: little bit too here. But he was doing the McAfee
- 1:54:32Speaker 7: thing the other night. He was kind of critical of
- 1:54:34Speaker 7: Drake May. But wha did he have Drake May and
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: his big board?
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: Yeah, you know that was right up there.
- 1:54:40Speaker 7: Five five overall, not fifth quarterback. Bill had a big
- 1:54:45Speaker 7: boy five overall.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: Well, there was some speculation if it was like his.
- 1:54:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know, but that's what it was attached
- 1:54:51Speaker 7: to his name.
- 1:54:52Speaker 9: It was.
- 1:54:52Speaker 8: Yeah, there was some rumors or whatever you want to
- 1:54:55Speaker 8: call it, that it was actually field the eights is board.
- 1:54:58Speaker 8: That might be, but he he wasn't going to put
- 1:55:00Speaker 8: himself in front of the board if he didn't feel
- 1:55:02Speaker 8: like if he thought that Drake May was really like
- 1:55:06Speaker 8: fifty eight, he wouldn't have allowed that to go out there. Yeah,
- 1:55:09Speaker 8: and you know he talked to but he said good
- 1:55:13Speaker 8: and bad about it a guy, and he did.
- 1:55:14Speaker 7: He did good and bad. And I thought I thought
- 1:55:17Speaker 7: he was pretty critical of Drake May. But he was
- 1:55:20Speaker 7: pretty critical I thought of all of the quarter I
- 1:55:22Speaker 7: agree with Frank thought he was pretty critical of all
- 1:55:24Speaker 7: of them.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: I think I think the only thing he did different
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: maybe with May than he did with the others is
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: what you know, he compares himself to Josh Allen, which.
- 1:55:32Speaker 7: I don't really like. I'd like to see I'm not
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: telling you that that's not true. I'd like to see that.
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: Oh I saw it.
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: You saw Drake May say that.
- 1:55:39Speaker 7: I'm like, like, Josh saw Bill say Oh, No, I
- 1:55:42Speaker 7: saw Bill say it. I haven't. I haven't seen where
- 1:55:45Speaker 7: Drake May has said it.
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: I've seen other people, million people.
- 1:55:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean he compares himself to that's what he said.
- 1:55:51Speaker 8: I don't know if he I think saying that he
- 1:55:54Speaker 8: compares himself to Josh Allen is strong. It's kind of
- 1:55:57Speaker 8: like how Jalen Polka said that his favorite player to
- 1:56:00Speaker 8: watches Keenan Allen. Like he's not saying that he's as
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: good as Keenan all and he's saying, like, that's the
- 1:56:04Speaker 8: guy I look up to that I hope to be someday.
- 1:56:06Speaker 8: I think Drake May might have said that he hopes
- 1:56:09Speaker 8: to even if Josh said that, then I would I
- 1:56:11Speaker 8: would give Bill some slack.
- 1:56:13Speaker 7: I haven't even heard.
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: I hadn't heard that either, but.
- 1:56:16Speaker 7: I mean that makes sense.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: It's I mean, how many guys came out and I'd
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: like to, you know, be like Tom Brady, Like you know.
- 1:56:21Speaker 8: That if somebody asks you what quarterback do you emulate?
- 1:56:24Speaker 8: What quarterback do you watch that you like the most,
- 1:56:26Speaker 8: And he says Josh Allen, that doesn't mean that he's
- 1:56:27Speaker 8: comparing yourself to Josh.
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: But that's a little bit different. If somebody asks you
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: what quarterback do you fashion yourself you know.
- 1:56:36Speaker 8: Right right, you know, or yeah, no, this was I
- 1:56:38Speaker 8: think was more of like what Polk was asked about yesterday,
- 1:56:41Speaker 8: like which receivers in the league do you watch that
- 1:56:43Speaker 8: you try to.
- 1:56:44Speaker 6: You know, emulate Eagles took Jeremiah Trotter junior. That's that's
- 1:56:47Speaker 6: that's nice.
- 1:56:48Speaker 18: That's nice.
- 1:56:48Speaker 7: Like Jet's just traded John Franklin Myers to Denver for
- 1:56:52Speaker 7: a sixth round pick.
- 1:56:53Speaker 8: What wow, salary dump.
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: Yeah, he's pretty good player.
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: All right, Well, listen, that's gonna be it for our
