- 0:00Good morning, and welcome to a very special edition of Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 0:05Today is Good Friday, April 18th, 2025.
- 0:10Good Friday, also known as Black Friday, Holy Friday, Great Friday,
- 0:17Great and Holy Friday, or Friday of the Passion of the Lord is a solemn Christian
- 0:23holy day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary.
- 0:30It is observed during the Holy Week as part of the tritium is what they call it.
- 0:37Now, the interesting thing about Good Friday is that many of us remember the
- 0:44sacrifice as we believe that Jesus'
- 0:48death on the cross was a sacrificial act offering atonement for our sins of humanity.
- 0:58Good Friday is a time for reflection on the knowing of the cost of sin and the
- 1:05profound love that God has demonstrated through Jesus' sacrifice.
- 1:11You think about the word good, the term Good Friday is not meant to imply that
- 1:16the day was pleasant or positive in nature.
- 1:20Instead, it signifies the day as a holy day, marking significant event in Christian history.
- 1:30So, what happened on Good Friday? On the day we now commemorate as Good Friday,
- 1:36Jesus was falsely accused, betrayed, beaten, whipped, mocked, and executed.
- 1:43The death on the cross, which is also known as the crucifixion,
- 1:48was a slow and particularly cruel and painful form of Roman execution, actually.
- 1:56Almost said extension, but it was an execution. So on this day,
- 2:02we pretty much prepare ourselves to reflect and think about why Jesus's death is also called Easter.
- 2:12On Sunday, when we celebrate his resurrection,
- 2:16Easter is called Easter because Christian celebration of Jesus' resurrection
- 2:21due to the complex mix of historical and linguistic factors.
- 2:29While it's possible the name Easter has some connection to an Anglo-Saxon goddess named Easter.
- 2:40And associated with the spring, the more likely explanation is that it evolved
- 2:45from Christian terms referring to, referencing, I should say,
- 2:49not referring, white week.
- 2:52I think they also known it as hemodomita.
- 2:56I got to look that up again.
- 2:58And the white robes worn by newly Baptist individuals, baptized, I should say.
- 3:04So the name pacha
- 3:07which is used in many other languages and
- 3:10translates to passover also highlights the closed connection between easter
- 3:15and the jewish passover as jesus death and resurrection occurred during that
- 3:20week so easter that's what we're talking about and that is where we're going
- 3:29to begin today's message.
- 3:31Have faith, let it begin. Holy, holy week, good Friday, and preparing for Easter starts now.
- 3:38Have faith, let it begin. When it starts right now.
