- 0:10Speaker 1: Patrick gets Unfiltered Waters trembling down from the mountain? Do
- 0:18Speaker 1: I stare or jump in? Who knows? That's not a poem,
- 0:22Speaker 1: that's that's just words. The most poetic thing is a
- 0:25Speaker 1: is something you write that rhymes. There was a girl
- 0:28Speaker 1: from Nantucket. Well that yeah, it's more limerick. But but yeah,
- 0:31Speaker 1: if someone offered that up, I'd say, Okay, you know,
- 0:33Speaker 1: someday you'll be in fourth grade. Right, this isn't going
- 0:36Speaker 1: to surprise you at all. I won. I won my
- 0:39Speaker 1: town spelling being of course you did in eighth grade. Yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but then I get to the States Round one, I
- 0:44Speaker 1: get Mohair, the girl who came right after me, who
- 0:48Speaker 1: ended up winning the whole thing. You know what they
- 0:50Speaker 1: gave her, what mascara? I just realize what our next
- 0:56Speaker 1: challenge is a spelling off. A spelling off, we need
- 1:01Speaker 1: the rules. It would be a spelling speed one player
- 1:05Speaker 1: who was the iconic player of that sport. Who would
- 1:10Speaker 1: it be curling? Stan Crokey? You know it is easy? Yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 1: And you guys came up with anymore, Nan, but I
- 1:16Speaker 1: love the other Thanks Jay yea. I will not think
- 1:19Speaker 1: about that for one second. After the nine. This is
- 1:23Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's Tuesday here at Jillette Stadium, and players are back,
- 1:35Speaker 1: some of them, a lot of them. Yeah, a lot
- 1:37Speaker 1: of players are back for the opening of OTA's They
- 1:41Speaker 1: started trickling in yesterday. Uh and if you go to
- 1:44Speaker 1: Patriots dot com you can see pictures of that. But
- 1:47Speaker 1: they're working out in the weight room in the fieldhouse,
- 1:51Speaker 1: no pads, no helmets, just no coaches really strength and
- 1:56Speaker 1: conditioning coaches only at this point. Yep. It's a rehab
- 1:59Speaker 1: and conditioning exercises, weight training obviously, and some meetings no
- 2:05Speaker 1: more than two hours a day for this first phase.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They they give three phases to the offseason program. First
- 2:13Speaker 1: one you wrote about, which you've wrote about. Yeah, that's
- 2:16Speaker 1: the first phase. It's two weeks of basically getting into
- 2:19Speaker 1: into shape essentially, and then after that they move to
- 2:23Speaker 1: the field where they can you know, they can work
- 2:26Speaker 1: with coaches and do certain drills, individual drills, group drills,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but no no competitive offensive defense or position versus position
- 2:37Speaker 1: that happens in after five weeks, then they can start
- 2:43Speaker 1: getting you know, doing simulated walk through kind of stuff
- 2:46Speaker 1: and faster speed offense versus defense kind of thing. So
- 2:50Speaker 1: that that's when we get to OTA practices mini camp.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So but it's yeah, it's it's the it's the first
- 2:57Speaker 1: day of the Like they we've had team building with
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, signing people. Next week we'll have the draft,
- 3:05Speaker 1: so the team building will continue, but this is the
- 3:06Speaker 1: first actual preparation. Yeah, like in earnest for twenty twenty two.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So it's fun, it's exciting. It's good to see some
- 3:14Speaker 1: of the new guys here. Yeah. Mac Jones is here
- 3:17Speaker 1: of course, so good stuff, good stuff. Um. Other news
- 3:21Speaker 1: and by the way, it's me and Eric again. Paul
- 3:24Speaker 1: and Deuce is still in Vaca, live in the High Life,
- 3:27Speaker 1: Mats in the booth literally for Paul. Yeah. Um. Hall
- 3:32Speaker 1: of Fame nominees came out. Finalists. The finalists, I should say, uh,
- 3:38Speaker 1: Vince Wilfork, Logan Mankins, and Mike Rabel. I call Mike
- 3:42Speaker 1: Rabel the Susan Lucci of Oh Boy. I feel he's
- 3:46Speaker 1: got to win it this year. It doesn't he I
- 3:47Speaker 1: don't know, it's up to the fans. I think, come on, fans,
- 3:50Speaker 1: don't hang Rabel out to dry again. Don't you think
- 3:53Speaker 1: Wilfork will win? Of the three, I'd like it to
- 3:56Speaker 1: be Rabel because I think he deserves it. I really do.
- 3:59Speaker 1: They loved us, serve it. But I know, but like
- 4:01Speaker 1: how many times, like are we gonna call him up
- 4:03Speaker 1: and say, hey, Mike, your finalist and then he's like,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I know, I'm not gonna get in. It's gonna hang
- 4:07Speaker 1: up the phone. It's kind of ridiculous, you know. Yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I mean, they all, all three of them deserve to
- 4:12Speaker 1: be in, there's no question, but Rabel's been in so
- 4:15Speaker 1: many times, like at some point, yeah, you know, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: mean I'd like to have a rule where if a guy, yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 1: gets in the top three five years in a row,
- 4:23Speaker 1: he automatically goes in. You know, I didn't even say
- 4:26Speaker 1: maybe maybe maybe four. He's like, that's even that's a lot, right, Yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but you know, yeah, so, uh, those are the three
- 4:34Speaker 1: and uh and you can start voting right now Patriots
- 4:38Speaker 1: dot com. Right up there, you can watch little vignettes.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Not that anyone needs to know who these guys were
- 4:45Speaker 1: in playing days, but watch some highlights, and yeah, freshman,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I would say, like if, although, if, if you're not
- 4:52Speaker 1: sure who these guys were, and you need to watch
- 4:55Speaker 1: video of them, you shouldn't be voting. Oh that's a
- 4:57Speaker 1: good point, you know what I mean? Yeah, because and
- 4:59Speaker 1: they all basically played together at some point, right, they
- 5:02Speaker 1: were all in the middle of that, in the middle
- 5:04Speaker 1: of that dynasty period. I mean, will Fork won a couple.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Mankins is the only one that never did, right, He's
- 5:10Speaker 1: the only one of the three that didn't win a
- 5:12Speaker 1: super Bowl, which is unfortunately appeared in two of them.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'll never forget after that oh seven loss in Arizona,
- 5:20Speaker 1: the place that we were staying, that hotel, and it's
- 5:23Speaker 1: after the game, and Mankins and like two of the
- 5:26Speaker 1: other linemen walk in and every TV obviously has the
- 5:30Speaker 1: highlights and he's like turned that blank off. You know.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's like, well, I wish you had I wish I
- 5:37Speaker 1: had not played like that. Yeah, but they must have
- 5:41Speaker 1: felt terrible after that game. Yeah, I I hate to
- 5:46Speaker 1: revisit that, but that they were the flight home, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 1: coming home from a super Bowl is different than going there,
- 5:53Speaker 1: Like it's kind of like a free for all with
- 5:55Speaker 1: like people putting people on planes. They just want to
- 5:57Speaker 1: hurry up and get the whole travel party or home,
- 6:00Speaker 1: win or lose. You just want to get home at
- 6:02Speaker 1: that point. And you're mixed in with players, players, families, colleagues,
- 6:07Speaker 1: your own family if you brought them. And I was
- 6:10Speaker 1: sitting behind a couple of players who shall remain nameless,
- 6:13Speaker 1: but they like halfway through the flight and we're flying
- 6:16Speaker 1: from Arizona, so there was a long flight home, and
- 6:18Speaker 1: one of them turns to the other and is just
- 6:20Speaker 1: shaking his head and he goes, He's like, did that
- 6:25Speaker 1: game actually happen? It's like, I feel like it was
- 6:27Speaker 1: just a dream and we have to play tonight. And
- 6:31Speaker 1: the other one just was like yeah, He's like I
- 6:33Speaker 1: still can't believe that it's over. Like I don't know
- 6:36Speaker 1: if they were, Yeah, all of them were mentally prepared
- 6:41Speaker 1: for the outcome or even prepared to be there that night.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Like I think it was such a foregone conclusion that
- 6:46Speaker 1: they were going to win the game. There were so
- 6:48Speaker 1: much better that Giants didn't even deserve to be in
- 6:50Speaker 1: the playoffs that year. Yeah, anyway, but those guys were
- 6:56Speaker 1: all part of that team except for Mankins, obviously, but
- 7:01Speaker 1: I mean Mankins was on the team, but he didn't
- 7:02Speaker 1: he didn't win. They were all part of such great
- 7:07Speaker 1: teams and they all played important roles. Like I think
- 7:10Speaker 1: mankins legacy to me will be not necessarily the Pro Bowls,
- 7:16Speaker 1: because he was a perennial you know, honoree in that regard.
- 7:20Speaker 1: But what people are gonna remember is the guy played
- 7:23Speaker 1: a season on an ACL tear. Yeah right, yeah, an
- 7:27Speaker 1: entire season ye with with with a torn knee and
- 7:31Speaker 1: never really noticed it. Nobody ever complained about it. He
- 7:34Speaker 1: wasn't I don't even remember if he was on the injury.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He was a great player. I mean obviously he was
- 7:39Speaker 1: a guard, but he's played tackle in a pinch. I
- 7:42Speaker 1: remember Miami, they had to flip him out there and
- 7:45Speaker 1: he played well yeah, you know, he was just he
- 7:48Speaker 1: was a great player. Um. So you know, like we said,
- 7:51Speaker 1: all three of them deserve to get in. But it's
- 7:53Speaker 1: now up to the fans, and I think the voting
- 7:56Speaker 1: is going to be open for about a month. You
- 7:58Speaker 1: go to Patriots dot com and we'll see what happened
- 8:01Speaker 1: and calling right in and let us know what you yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, so again it's it's Wilfork, it's Rabel, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: it's Mankins. Those are the three finalists and it's purely
- 8:11Speaker 1: a fan vote. So whoever gets the most votes from
- 8:14Speaker 1: the fans, that who that's who gets in this year. Yea,
- 8:17Speaker 1: So it's out of our hands right now. As we said,
- 8:22Speaker 1: the players are back. What else well we had since
- 8:25Speaker 1: the last show, We've heard from a couple of important
- 8:28Speaker 1: members of the team and organization. Last Friday we had
- 8:32Speaker 1: Mac Row in his first appearance as the newly promoted
- 8:37Speaker 1: director of player Personnel, and he had a few interesting
- 8:40Speaker 1: comments that jumped out to me. I don't know if
- 8:41Speaker 1: you had the same ones, Freddie. Um, we'll go over
- 8:44Speaker 1: those in a second. And then yesterday we heard from
- 8:46Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler, Yeah, in his first stay back, who I
- 8:49Speaker 1: thought did a really good job with the media. You know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: he's not a he's not the best public speaker, he
- 8:54Speaker 1: never has been. He's not comfortable, but I think he
- 8:57Speaker 1: did a really good job, you know, talking about coming
- 9:01Speaker 1: back and you know, sidestepping the you know the room. Yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I mean he said as much as he was willing
- 9:09Speaker 1: to say, and you know, we'll leave it at that,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and I think he did a good job handling those
- 9:14Speaker 1: questions and also you know why he retired and all that.
- 9:18Speaker 1: You know, if I was though asking questions, I would
- 9:21Speaker 1: have at least asked, hey, are you willing to share
- 9:24Speaker 1: why you decided? You know, what was it that didn't
- 9:28Speaker 1: have your mind right last year? Because he said, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 1: my mind wasn't right mentally, But you know, why are
- 9:35Speaker 1: you willing to share? What? What? What? What was that? Yeah?
- 9:38Speaker 1: I don't want to ask them. No, they didn't, and
- 9:40Speaker 1: I mean I was on the call as well, but
- 9:41Speaker 1: like we try to stay away from asking those kind
- 9:44Speaker 1: of inflammatory questions for obvious reasons. Um, but that was
- 9:49Speaker 1: my follow up that I was wanted somebody to ask,
- 9:52Speaker 1: was like, okay, so yeah, what was the reason why
- 9:55Speaker 1: was your mind not in it? Yeah? Just you know,
- 9:57Speaker 1: are you willing to share it? Yeah? Then you can
- 9:59Speaker 1: just say well no, not right now? Okay? Right, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: at least giving the chance to do so, because you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: a lot of times guys say no, I don't want
- 10:07Speaker 1: to talk about that, and then a follow up question
- 10:09Speaker 1: leads them to start talking about they really want to,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but they don't, you know, right, it takes them a
- 10:13Speaker 1: little bit, Yeah, it takes them encouraging and yeah, but
- 10:16Speaker 1: I thought it was. I mean, he made it pretty
- 10:19Speaker 1: plain that he does want to play now. Whatever his
- 10:22Speaker 1: headspace was last year, it's in a different place now
- 10:25Speaker 1: and he's fully back to wanting to play. He talked
- 10:27Speaker 1: about missing, you know, watching games on Sundays from his
- 10:31Speaker 1: couch and was I think pretty candid about, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: not expecting to be back here. But then his agent said, hey,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Bill's on the phone, so start working out yea, And
- 10:42Speaker 1: then before you know it, he's signed. He's back here
- 10:44Speaker 1: and he's thirty two years old. But I think he's
- 10:49Speaker 1: got as good a shot as anybody to be out
- 10:52Speaker 1: there for this team this year, because just because right
- 10:55Speaker 1: now they have very few bodies to do it. They
- 10:58Speaker 1: just need guys to compete, you know. I mean, there's
- 11:00Speaker 1: no guarantee he's going to make the team, but no,
- 11:03Speaker 1: we'll see. But there's also I think there's as much
- 11:05Speaker 1: a chance that he doesn't make the team as there is.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He has an important role with this shore. Yeah, so
- 11:10Speaker 1: it could go. It's a wide spectrum of things that
- 11:12Speaker 1: could happen with Malcolm Butler. Yep, there's a lot that
- 11:15Speaker 1: can happen between now and training camp. Yeah. He also
- 11:18Speaker 1: said with regards to the Super Bowl, that he and
- 11:22Speaker 1: Bill had to talk immediately after the game and that
- 11:25Speaker 1: he didn't burn any bridges, which I found remarkable from
- 11:30Speaker 1: a standpoint that you know, how competitive these players are.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Even the worst guy, even the lowest guy on the
- 11:36Speaker 1: practice squad, is one of the most competitive players you'll
- 11:39Speaker 1: ever meet, because that's the nature of professional athletes. And
- 11:43Speaker 1: it's right after the Super Bowl, right after a game
- 11:45Speaker 1: which they easily many people think could have won if
- 11:48Speaker 1: he had played. Your emotions are high, you know. Belichick
- 11:52Speaker 1: always says don't make decisions right after a loss or
- 11:55Speaker 1: a big event like that, And Butler was in such
- 12:00Speaker 1: a frame of mind that he could he could know
- 12:04Speaker 1: within himself that he this was a time not to
- 12:06Speaker 1: make any rash moves or say anything that was going
- 12:10Speaker 1: to burn his bridges. I mean, I thought that was
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean, especially so close to the game being over. Yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 1: don't you think that that's kind of like that takes
- 12:17Speaker 1: a lot of not only self awareness but self control. Yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 1: it does. Well, never well, we probably will never know
- 12:25Speaker 1: what actually happened, you know. I know that Wickersham from
- 12:30Speaker 1: ESPN had some a little bit of insight there. I'm
- 12:35Speaker 1: not buying it. I think there's stuff that we just
- 12:37Speaker 1: don't know, and they're neither side's gonna say certainly not now.
- 12:42Speaker 1: It's just you know, you're talking about the super Bowl.
- 12:45Speaker 1: It's like the the biggest game, right. Somebody was saying, like,
- 12:50Speaker 1: it's like if you were a you know, a kid
- 12:54Speaker 1: in a church going family and you overslept for church,
- 12:58Speaker 1: except it was Christmas Day or Eastern right. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 1: you know you don't do that, and uh it, it
- 13:07Speaker 1: had to be something so bad where you wouldn't play him,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, especially Okay, first half, but then second half.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Obviously you need that extra body out there. It can't
- 13:18Speaker 1: hurt right, right, right, he can't do worse than what's happening, right,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, so at least give it a shot. See
- 13:24Speaker 1: if you know, thirty minutes or you know, a couple
- 13:28Speaker 1: hours of sitting on the bench got his mind right,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, it still didn't play him right. And the thing,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know, I hate revisiting these Super Bowl losses in
- 13:39Speaker 1: this first half hour, but the the thing that was
- 13:43Speaker 1: so befuddling to everybody was if you knew that he
- 13:46Speaker 1: wasn't going to play that night don't put him on
- 13:49Speaker 1: the game day active, right, I don't think they did, like,
- 13:52Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, like he was active. He was an
- 13:54Speaker 1: active player. He was one of the forty to it
- 13:58Speaker 1: that had that changed exactly exactly so, but anyway, but
- 14:02Speaker 1: he's he's moved on from it. Obviously Bill has moved
- 14:05Speaker 1: on from it too, or else he wouldn't have invited
- 14:07Speaker 1: him back here and they could use help at that position,
- 14:10Speaker 1: so I hope. I mean, he also sounded very confident
- 14:14Speaker 1: in his own abilities, even at age thirty two. Somebody
- 14:16Speaker 1: asked him, you know, flat out, you know, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you took a year off, are you as are you
- 14:21Speaker 1: confident year as you know, good as you were the
- 14:24Speaker 1: last time you stepped on a football field something like that,
- 14:26Speaker 1: and he said, oh, yes, sir. So he's not at
- 14:30Speaker 1: a loss for a confidence. Obviously he didn't play last year,
- 14:33Speaker 1: but the year before, his numbers at Tennessee, I mean,
- 14:37Speaker 1: they weren't terrible, all right. I don't recall off the
- 14:41Speaker 1: top of my head what his numbers were that season,
- 14:43Speaker 1: but I mean he played what four years there? So
- 14:47Speaker 1: he lived out I guess his contract with Tennessee and
- 14:49Speaker 1: then moved on. He was a free agent again, went
- 14:53Speaker 1: to So that's the really interesting story is what happened
- 14:56Speaker 1: after he left Tennessee went to Arizona. Like you said earlier,
- 15:00Speaker 1: what was going on in his head that he said,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I can't play, Yeah, because if I'm not focused, I'm
- 15:05Speaker 1: not going to be right. You know, That's what everybody
- 15:08Speaker 1: wants to know. But he seems to be over that,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I'm anxious to see what he can do because,
- 15:15Speaker 1: you know, unless they draft a player with that twenty
- 15:18Speaker 1: first pick next next week or dare I even crossed
- 15:22Speaker 1: my fingers and hope that they trade up for somebody,
- 15:26Speaker 1: it's a free for all at Cornerbash, you know. I mean,
- 15:30Speaker 1: Jalen Mills probably has you know, a leg up on
- 15:34Speaker 1: a few other guys there because he did so much
- 15:36Speaker 1: of it last year. But I even think like, if
- 15:39Speaker 1: somebody outplays Jalen Mills, he could be someone that they move,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you know, maybe to safety a little bit, or maybe
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know, make him be more of a role player,
- 15:48Speaker 1: even though they paid him all that money. But they
- 15:51Speaker 1: have a lot of they have a lot of needs,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and I think cornerback's the biggest one. So Butler has
- 15:55Speaker 1: as good a chance as anybody to contribute it. It's
- 15:57Speaker 1: a team that really doesn't have a WR one or
- 16:01Speaker 1: a CB one. Yeah, you know right, And speaking of
- 16:05Speaker 1: CB ones, uh our old one is now a cult.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Stephan Gilmour went to the Colts. To the Colts two years.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Twenty three million, I think is the number I saw.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So not not not gigantic, not crazy, not like the
- 16:19Speaker 1: Denzel Award contract. That's a good, good move, you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Colts. Yeah, Paul makes fun of it, but it's
- 16:26Speaker 1: a good move for both of them, you know, Yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 1: because the Colts, like, yeah, made in health defense and
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think they're close, right, I think, and now you
- 16:34Speaker 1: know they've got a better quarterback. Um, Matt Ryan, Yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I think they could do something this year. Yeah, and
- 16:41Speaker 1: they beat you so you can't you can't laugh at it,
- 16:44Speaker 1: yep um and then uh, Matt grow Yeah, I thought.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You know what jumped out at me was, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 1: obviously the wide receiver comment. You can't just sit and
- 16:54Speaker 1: wait for that to happen. You've got to be proactive.
- 16:57Speaker 1: You know. You wonder if he's you know, uh that's
- 17:00Speaker 1: in reference to DeVante Parker, but or if you know
- 17:05Speaker 1: they might do something in the draft, or if there's
- 17:07Speaker 1: more to come at that position. But you know, he
- 17:10Speaker 1: definitely agreed with the person asking that it's you know, impact,
- 17:15Speaker 1: impact impact. If you want an impact player, you have
- 17:19Speaker 1: to be aggressive, right, you know? Right? Yeah? There the
- 17:25Speaker 1: There are two lines that stood out to me from
- 17:27Speaker 1: his press conference. One along the wide receiver line was
- 17:31Speaker 1: somebody asked about the Parker trade and how it came about,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and he specifically pointed out Matt Patricia got us the
- 17:38Speaker 1: information pretty quickly about that something along I'm paraphrasing a
- 17:43Speaker 1: little bit, but what does that mean? Well, that's that's
- 17:45Speaker 1: my question. I mean, you play them twice a year,
- 17:47Speaker 1: you know who Davante Parker is, and you know the
- 17:49Speaker 1: situation in Miami. I don't know what information he's talking about, right,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and so like, why would Matt Patricia need to give
- 17:55Speaker 1: that to you, especially if Matt Patricia is now in
- 17:57Speaker 1: a coaching role. Well, but I think he's also still
- 18:01Speaker 1: involved in the scouting as well. But okay, yeah, but
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'd like to know a little bit more about that too,
- 18:05Speaker 1: like why is he doing both? Is he going to
- 18:07Speaker 1: do both? Or He made a point to name a
- 18:09Speaker 1: lot of names he did. He did, but like with
- 18:12Speaker 1: somebody specifically asked about the trade for Parker and he
- 18:15Speaker 1: specifically mentioned Matt Patricia as as But then a few
- 18:20Speaker 1: questions later, you know, unsolicited, he said, well, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: Bill's the GM. Everybody knows Bill is the general manager here,
- 18:28Speaker 1: which you and I have said that, Fred Paul has
- 18:31Speaker 1: said it before. We've all thought it, we've all said it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: But for somebody in that room to say it, I
- 18:37Speaker 1: think it's it's kind of a kind of a big deal. Yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 1: but like you said, we know that's the case. Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but a lot of times we know things that are
- 18:45Speaker 1: the case, but that will never admit it. Yeah, that's
- 18:47Speaker 1: a pretty that's a pretty important statement. Yeah. Um, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: we talked about it, uh last week. But if you
- 18:53Speaker 1: go to Patrios dot com and you see the do
- 18:55Speaker 1: your job on scouting, Um, it's a young it's a
- 18:59Speaker 1: young room. Yes, it's a young room. You know Matt,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, Patricia's a little higher up there. But in
- 19:03Speaker 1: terms of the personnel people, for the most part, it's
- 19:06Speaker 1: young guys. Yeah, and I think that's a good thing.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You know, you've got the experience in Bill and Matt Patricia,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but it's it's you know, the game's changing and to
- 19:17Speaker 1: have guys that are a little bit closer to you know,
- 19:20Speaker 1: have played and it's I think it's a good thing.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens with the draft this year.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, they certainly did well last year. They ended
- 19:28Speaker 1: up with three guys that made yeah, you know, immediate
- 19:31Speaker 1: and contributions to the team. If they can do that again,
- 19:34Speaker 1: home run great. And I'm I'm a little I know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I said last week that I'm resigned to their trading
- 19:39Speaker 1: down and out of the first round, but maybe it's
- 19:42Speaker 1: recency bias, But after hearing Matt grow talk, I'm a
- 19:45Speaker 1: little bit less convinced that that's a that's a certainty
- 19:49Speaker 1: because he seemed to kind of laugh it off when
- 19:52Speaker 1: he's like, wow, everybody seems to say that every year
- 19:54Speaker 1: about us. And then he mentioned and you know, value,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and he's like, well, we want value for all our picks.
- 20:00Speaker 1: You know, we want our twenty first pick to be
- 20:02Speaker 1: as valuable as our fifty fourth and those are the
- 20:05Speaker 1: first two picks that they have in this draft, first round,
- 20:07Speaker 1: in second round. So maybe he was doing it for
- 20:10Speaker 1: the cameras, but he sounded like a guy who was
- 20:12Speaker 1: very much speaking not necessarily from a script at all times,
- 20:17Speaker 1: but a little bit off the cuff. So I'm I'm
- 20:22Speaker 1: hopeful that I'm a little bit more hopeful than it
- 20:24Speaker 1: was last week that they'll bank a pick with that
- 20:26Speaker 1: with that first round. Okay, all right, all right? Eight
- 20:29Speaker 1: five five pats five hundred is the a sticket hut line.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Eight five five pats five hundred is the acetiket hut line.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Uh.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Congrats to the Celtics on their Game one win over Brooklyn.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You know, great game from what I hear, a lot
- 20:47Speaker 1: of fun to watch. Um, you know, I thought they
- 20:49Speaker 1: were going to blow it. They had a fifteen point lead,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but um, they hung in there and just a great
- 20:56Speaker 1: play at the end. It just reminded me of that
- 21:00Speaker 1: play when we thought the Celtics were gonna lose and
- 21:04Speaker 1: Birds stole it, threw it in and then hit DJ
- 21:07Speaker 1: for the uh the lay up. It was kind of
- 21:10Speaker 1: reminiscent of that. There was no steel obviously, but the way,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, just just the unselfishness on that play and
- 21:20Speaker 1: then the final cut to the hoop and just left
- 21:22Speaker 1: irving you know in his you know, in the dust.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It was just a great ending to that game. So
- 21:27Speaker 1: it looks like it's gonna be a good series. Good
- 21:29Speaker 1: for Why why the long layover between games one and two?
- 21:34Speaker 1: I don't know why did? I mean it's still in Boston? Yeah?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Why aren't they playing like tonight? Yeah they should be.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It should be tonight. I don't know. They just gotta
- 21:42Speaker 1: do it like rights. Yeah, they gotta stretch it out.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So so mid June. I mean, this is gonna go
- 21:47Speaker 1: to mid June. I know, you know, I know, and
- 21:49Speaker 1: hockey the same thing. Hockey goes till June. Yeah, no
- 21:52Speaker 1: need for that, all right. Web Radio at Patrice dot com.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Not everyone liked our show last week. Eric H. Preet
- 22:00Speaker 1: from Indianapolis says I won't read this, but screw you.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He says, this podcast has become an absolute joke. Wow,
- 22:08Speaker 1: I can't wait till the next generation is hired. You
- 22:12Speaker 1: guys do a dog blank job from reading the same
- 22:18Speaker 1: people's questions to talking about words and grammar. No one
- 22:21Speaker 1: tunes in for that. Actually, in that cover the fffing team,
- 22:26Speaker 1: what a joke. The only reason I listen is because
- 22:29Speaker 1: you're the official team podcast, and I'm sure that's the
- 22:31Speaker 1: only reason anyone listens to you idiots, or you wouldn't
- 22:35Speaker 1: be working. You'd be working at the local jiffy Loube's
- 22:40Speaker 1: kind of disrespectful to the people. Find people a jiffy
- 22:42Speaker 1: look exactly. And I already know this won't be read
- 22:45Speaker 1: because you only read Rodger's emails from Saint Louis and
- 22:49Speaker 1: emailers who blank you guys off with false praise, do
- 22:53Speaker 1: better be better clowns. Screw you? Hey, you know what,
- 22:59Speaker 1: don't how many years have we been doing this, like
- 23:03Speaker 1: like twenty somethings. Now we talk about crazy things, especially
- 23:08Speaker 1: in the off season. Yeah, so screw you, right, I mean,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I mean bye bye. Yeah you know, I really all
- 23:16Speaker 1: those tens and tens of thousands of people who love
- 23:18Speaker 1: tuning in and listening and writing in. Yeah, sometimes we
- 23:21Speaker 1: get silly, but yeah, you know that's what happens in
- 23:23Speaker 1: the off season, and people love that. It's four hours
- 23:25Speaker 1: in the off season six hours during the season. And uh,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you know what if he what was his name, if
- 23:33Speaker 1: he had an email worth reading that he wanted to
- 23:35Speaker 1: write in, we'd read it. Right. Rage writes some good emails.
- 23:37Speaker 1: What can we say? And like Raje from Saint Louis
- 23:41Speaker 1: is not the only email we read. I don't I
- 23:44Speaker 1: get to a fraction of them because we get to
- 23:46Speaker 1: a lot. And I apologize for that. You know, I
- 23:48Speaker 1: don't get to everybody's email, but you know you read
- 23:52Speaker 1: the good ones. Yeah, it's like we get we get
- 23:55Speaker 1: one of those, maybe every every month or two. We
- 23:58Speaker 1: could cover the team. So about football football, Well, when
- 24:01Speaker 1: there's nothing football is going on, like there was last week,
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah about that this week? Okay, so the guys are back.
- 24:08Speaker 1: We talk about but it's not like we were there
- 24:10Speaker 1: with them. You know, Malcolm Butler talk, We talk about that,
- 24:14Speaker 1: exact brow talks. We'll talk about that. You know, as
- 24:17Speaker 1: we get closer to the draft, we're gonna do a
- 24:20Speaker 1: deep dive into We're gonna have who we like. We're
- 24:22Speaker 1: gonna have three days of shows next Thursday, next Friday,
- 24:26Speaker 1: next Saturday. We're all we're going to talk about is football.
- 24:29Speaker 1: During the draft, We're gonna cover every single damn pick
- 24:32Speaker 1: of the draft. I do have my guy, All you do?
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah for the first pick, well, um, I don't. I'd
- 24:40Speaker 1: rather him be our second pick or if they trade down, okay,
- 24:43Speaker 1: take him in the second round. I don't want it,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you want to give it away, right, No, I'll I'll
- 24:47Speaker 1: say who I like? Oh, okay, because we usually do
- 24:49Speaker 1: our picks on the on the website, So I don't
- 24:52Speaker 1: know if he's like my Justin Jefferson this year Traylan
- 24:56Speaker 1: Burks from Arkansas. Yeah, i'd like him in the second
- 24:59Speaker 1: round if we and get him. Okay, Yeah, wide receiver,
- 25:02Speaker 1: yeah sixty three. Um really can do a lot of things.
- 25:06Speaker 1: He's like a better nikkil Harry Well. Yeah, but he's versatile.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I mean he he lines up in the backfield, he's
- 25:15Speaker 1: all over the place. He lines up in the slot outside,
- 25:18Speaker 1: good numbers, can you return at all a little bit?
- 25:21Speaker 1: So he's kind of like Cordarrel Patterson. Yeah. Well, they're
- 25:24Speaker 1: calling him a bigger Deebo Samuel. Now I don't want
- 25:27Speaker 1: to go there yet because I think Diego Samuel is
- 25:31Speaker 1: the best player in the NFL right now. Um, so
- 25:34Speaker 1: across between Deebo and Cordarrel. Yeah, he's he's he could
- 25:38Speaker 1: be that guy, you know, like like I was watching
- 25:41Speaker 1: a lot of his tape. He doesn't always catch the
- 25:43Speaker 1: ball cleanly, you know, sometimes a little bit, you know,
- 25:46Speaker 1: so we have to work on that a little bit,
- 25:48Speaker 1: but he's big. He uses his body, he he uh
- 25:52Speaker 1: gets open like I said, he can, he can run
- 25:55Speaker 1: out of the backfield. He's a he's like I think
- 25:57Speaker 1: he's like four four four to five, but for a
- 26:00Speaker 1: guy that's six three yeah. Um, and he's a you know,
- 26:03Speaker 1: he's sturdy, you know. Um, So he's my guy. I'd
- 26:08Speaker 1: like to get him in the second round, or if
- 26:10Speaker 1: they trade down, be one of the second round picks. Yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 1: you know. So that's that's just an early I've been
- 26:18Speaker 1: going through. I looked at some wide receiver tape. Um uh,
- 26:23Speaker 1: that's really the only tape I've looked at yet. I'm
- 26:26Speaker 1: gonna go next. I'm going to the linebackers. Yeah. Um,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I like the kid out of Georgia. Take your pick, well,
- 26:34Speaker 1: not not quite the other guy Dean, Yeah yeah, Kobe
- 26:39Speaker 1: Dean a little bit small, yeah, but fast but fastide.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Yeah there's I mean, take your pick on those Georgia defenders.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, there's you're not gonna miss on one
- 26:50Speaker 1: of those, I don't think. Yep. So we're gonna, like
- 26:52Speaker 1: you said, we're gonna get really deep into that next week.
- 26:55Speaker 1: We're gonna have Thursday Night. We're gonna be from seven
- 26:59Speaker 1: thirty all the way to the end of the first round,
- 27:01Speaker 1: so whatever, that is probably a four hour show. Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 1: and then m Friday, starting at seven, will be on
- 27:08Speaker 1: for three hours, and then Saturday for two hours in
- 27:12Speaker 1: the middle of the afternoon. Haven't even eaten he's already
- 27:15Speaker 1: burpet I said, precursor to what we can expect next week.
- 27:19Speaker 1: So a lot of a lot of draft stuff next week.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Paul will be back, Douce will be back, gonna be
- 27:25Speaker 1: live from the draft party Thursday night, where we'll have
- 27:30Speaker 1: live interviews with Bill Belichick, Matt grow Robert Kraft. So
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great show Thursday night. Any any
- 27:39Speaker 1: player cameos do we know of? I don't know yet, Okay, Yeah,
- 27:43Speaker 1: so stay tuned. So that'll be a huge starting at
- 27:46Speaker 1: seven thirty Thursday night. All right, So let's get to
- 27:51Speaker 1: our listeners. See what's everyone what everyone's thinking about. We'll
- 27:55Speaker 1: start with Patty and Agawam on the Ace ticket hout line.
- 27:58Speaker 1: What's up, Patty, what's up? Guys? Brat, don't listen to
- 28:02Speaker 1: that emailer. You know my opinion. One, you're the king
- 28:04Speaker 1: of all Patriots meeting and you have since ninety four. Hey, listen, best,
- 28:09Speaker 1: if you hate us, you hate us, not for everybody,
- 28:12Speaker 1: That's fine, you know, hey, as their Scaldino once said,
- 28:17Speaker 1: screw you, business leader. Right. Um, So, I just wanted
- 28:23Speaker 1: to give my my thoughts on the Hall of Fame
- 28:24Speaker 1: voting uh finalists. I want to vote for Principal Fork,
- 28:31Speaker 1: but you guys kind of might might have exquayed me
- 28:34Speaker 1: a little bit more to go a little bit contrarian,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and I vote for Mike Brable. And I want to
- 28:38Speaker 1: just bring up one play that kind of gets baby
- 28:42Speaker 1: has gotten lost in the shovel or you know, just
- 28:46Speaker 1: you know lost, but um lost to the sands of time,
- 28:51Speaker 1: lost to the stands of time. Eric. And it was
- 28:54Speaker 1: on Three Games to Glory, Part three, the two thousand
- 28:57Speaker 1: and four divisional game against the Colts or the Holes
- 29:00Speaker 1: had had the ball on the goal line and they
- 29:05Speaker 1: were they set up a play to go to a
- 29:07Speaker 1: Dallas Clark and on the play, Rabel absolutely freaking levels them,
- 29:12Speaker 1: like decleads them, and he was the primary receiver and
- 29:16Speaker 1: Peyton had home almost actually threw an interception to Eugene
- 29:19Speaker 1: Wilson on that play and ultimately they didn't get me
- 29:22Speaker 1: end zone they had to settle for a field goal.
- 29:24Speaker 1: But that play kind of, maybe more so than like
- 29:28Speaker 1: the pressure on Kurt Warner and the strips back in
- 29:30Speaker 1: Super Bowl thirty eight, kind of encapsulate Mike Vrabel in
- 29:34Speaker 1: my opinion. Yeah, how he was. He was able to
- 29:36Speaker 1: do all those the little things, the dirty work, don't
- 29:39Speaker 1: matter what, to try and help the team win. That's
- 29:41Speaker 1: why you guys played me. Yeah, I agree. I mean
- 29:44Speaker 1: I nominated Rabel the first year he was eligible just
- 29:48Speaker 1: for those reasons. I mean, he did whatever was asked
- 29:51Speaker 1: of him, and he did it at a high level. Football.
- 29:54Speaker 1: IQ was through the roof. He's got ten receptions, every
- 29:59Speaker 1: one of them were for touchdowns, you know, So that's
- 30:02Speaker 1: that's more than a gimmick. When he lines up at
- 30:04Speaker 1: tight end, you know, ten for ten all touchdowns. That's unbelievable. Um.
- 30:10Speaker 1: And like you said, he's played inside linebacker, outside linebacker,
- 30:14Speaker 1: plays well against the run, can rush the passer, can cover,
- 30:18Speaker 1: you know, disrupt guys on their route. Just just just
- 30:23Speaker 1: he was a coach on the field and really contributed
- 30:26Speaker 1: to winning, you know. Um, So you know, for those
- 30:30Speaker 1: reasons I nominated you know second, Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Always yeah, and that's all I got, all right, thanks Patty. Yeah,
- 30:43Speaker 1: it's not like Wilf work in and Mankins shouldn't get in,
- 30:46Speaker 1: but Rabel like he did it all. Yeah. I remember
- 30:50Speaker 1: that year that they were short on inside linebackers because
- 30:53Speaker 1: of injuries, and he's not an inside linebacker, but he
- 30:56Speaker 1: they put him in there said, and he played well, yeah,
- 30:59Speaker 1: you know, because he was smart. He knew how to yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 1: get you know, what do they call it, get through
- 31:03Speaker 1: the wash there? Yeah, you know, yea in traffic and
- 31:06Speaker 1: make plays. He was you know, his instincts are. He's
- 31:08Speaker 1: just very very high football like you right up there
- 31:11Speaker 1: with you know, Troy Brown, Randy Moss, uh Tom Brady
- 31:16Speaker 1: in terms of just intelligence on the field. Yeah, you know,
- 31:18Speaker 1: just a smart, smart football player. And I even remember
- 31:22Speaker 1: after the oh three Super Bowl we were doing we
- 31:25Speaker 1: were making the three Games to Glory video and he participated,
- 31:30Speaker 1: like helped out. I think we did me him uh
- 31:34Speaker 1: Ted Johnson. I think one other we we kind of
- 31:38Speaker 1: did a director's Cup. Were watched the game and they
- 31:41Speaker 1: talked about it while we were doing it. Then he
- 31:43Speaker 1: sat down and looked at some medicine. He was like
- 31:44Speaker 1: opinionated about about the edits like why why did you
- 31:48Speaker 1: do this? Why? I mean, he's just whatever it is,
- 31:50Speaker 1: he's he just wants to be He's smart. I have
- 31:55Speaker 1: no I have no you know, surprise that he is
- 31:59Speaker 1: a good head coach. Yeah, you know, and it didn't
- 32:01Speaker 1: take him long. No, you know, he went to Ohio
- 32:03Speaker 1: State and you know that with sections Yeah, and then
- 32:07Speaker 1: he was a head coach. You know, I'm not surprised
- 32:10Speaker 1: at all his quick ascension yea. And and success. You know,
- 32:14Speaker 1: you'd have to say he's been successful. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:17Speaker 1: especially with that team that came in here in twenty
- 32:20Speaker 1: nineteen and he got them to the AFC Championship, right, yeah,
- 32:24Speaker 1: So so that, you know, I hope he gets in.
- 32:28Speaker 1: But like I said, it's the fan vote, and I
- 32:30Speaker 1: think of the three, probably wolf Fork is the most
- 32:33Speaker 1: popular among the fans. But we'll see Maybee what happens.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Ben's in Pittsfield. What's up? Ben? Hey, guys? How you
- 32:42Speaker 1: doing good? Good? First thing for I know Patty said
- 32:45Speaker 1: the same thing, but I love the grammar talk if
- 32:47Speaker 1: it's incredible yeah and everything else, um, but more importantly
- 32:56Speaker 1: so I was just looking at moscrats and stuff and
- 32:58Speaker 1: I know quarterback is something that like, it's a position
- 33:02Speaker 1: if we draft at twenty one, position that could be drafted.
- 33:06Speaker 1: But I feel like I've heard a lot of conflicting
- 33:09Speaker 1: things like, um oh, Tren McDuffie or Andrew Booth, do
- 33:13Speaker 1: you guys have like an opinion as to which one
- 33:15Speaker 1: of them you prefer? I don't yet, I have to
- 33:18Speaker 1: be honest, I haven't really dived into the you know, cornerback.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I know that like for example, PF they've got McDuffie
- 33:26Speaker 1: ray ranked as their eleventh player overall, but he's behind
- 33:31Speaker 1: am A Gardner, He's behind Derek Stangley at cornerback. Um So,
- 33:36Speaker 1: like just from that, if you ended up with him
- 33:38Speaker 1: in the second round, that to me, that would be fine.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Um I'd be happy with either one, honestly, Ben, I
- 33:45Speaker 1: mean a quality They're all quality players. Those those those
- 33:51Speaker 1: top corners that we all that Fred just mentioned. Um,
- 33:55Speaker 1: I mean, what's the likelihood that either one of them
- 33:58Speaker 1: is going to be there? I think probably is more likely.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Um So I would lean toward him, unless you want
- 34:05Speaker 1: to trade up, which I'd be fine with that too.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Um But any one of those corners, whether it's Elon
- 34:13Speaker 1: uh McDuffie, Gardner, Booth, I'll take I'll take those. The
- 34:20Speaker 1: thing about boot both, Clemson's a good two different. Yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 1: Clemson's a good team, you know. And last year was
- 34:29Speaker 1: his first year as a starter there, But he had
- 34:32Speaker 1: forty six targets, right, and he gave up twenty nine
- 34:35Speaker 1: catches for three over three hundred yards. So like it's
- 34:39Speaker 1: not like he stopped everything. There are you know, like
- 34:42Speaker 1: cornerbacks like I have to look at Stingley a little
- 34:44Speaker 1: bit close. Yeah, that's the thing, people, that's what we want.
- 34:48Speaker 1: But we're not gonna get that, right, We're not gonna
- 34:50Speaker 1: get it. Not going to be like the answer to
- 34:51Speaker 1: all the He's not gonna shut down digs or anyone
- 34:54Speaker 1: like that, right, And I guarantee a rookie in the NFL,
- 34:58Speaker 1: he's gonna get gonna get targeted. You're certainly gonna get targeted.
- 35:01Speaker 1: You'll get torched. But I'm to get targeted at times.
- 35:04Speaker 1: He'll look bad, right, you know. Yeah. But and I
- 35:07Speaker 1: also had um another thought. I know I've called him
- 35:11Speaker 1: about Metchi before, but I was thinking about it a
- 35:13Speaker 1: little differently, and I think, Um, so you drafted, when
- 35:17Speaker 1: you drafted a quarterback, right, like you draft Mac Jones
- 35:19Speaker 1: at fifteen UM with like the assumption that in the
- 35:23Speaker 1: future he'll be your starter. Right. Rarely, I feel I
- 35:25Speaker 1: do teams drafted quarterbacks in the first round without them, yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 1: being a part of the future. But when you draft
- 35:31Speaker 1: that quarterback, and especially now with the steam of pairing
- 35:34Speaker 1: receivers and quarterbacks from college, that window to get a
- 35:38Speaker 1: receiver that your quarterback played with in college, it's only
- 35:42Speaker 1: that one year. And I know that, like on the
- 35:45Speaker 1: board you could have, you know, other wide receivers there.
- 35:48Speaker 1: But I feel like because you said, like that window
- 35:50Speaker 1: it's one year maybe too, I'm not really too sure
- 35:53Speaker 1: about other situations, but that window, you'll never have that
- 35:56Speaker 1: opportunity again. There will never be another wide receiver on
- 35:59Speaker 1: the board that played with Mac and college. It's a
- 36:01Speaker 1: good point, Ben, because these quarterbacks only play one or
- 36:04Speaker 1: two years now, you know exactly, Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 36:07Speaker 1: and in ten years down the road, you know there's
- 36:09Speaker 1: not going to be a wide receiver in the dract.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Like let's say Mac works out and he's our starter
- 36:13Speaker 1: for the next decade, right, which would be ideal, But
- 36:15Speaker 1: you know, we're not going to have a receiver ten
- 36:17Speaker 1: years down the road that lade with Mac, you know
- 36:19Speaker 1: what I mean, Like but that but is that a
- 36:21Speaker 1: relatively new thing? Yeah, though, you know, you get a
- 36:24Speaker 1: quarterback from the same school, because if you look at
- 36:27Speaker 1: all the great quarterback wide receiver tandems through history, right,
- 36:30Speaker 1: they're they're rarely from the same school, right. I think
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's I think it's very very recent, like the last
- 36:35Speaker 1: year or two. Yeah, you know, yeah, I think, but
- 36:39Speaker 1: I think like there's I think, you know, if we're
- 36:42Speaker 1: let's say, well, you know, he's there at fifty four
- 36:44Speaker 1: and I know a lot of people want them to
- 36:45Speaker 1: a drafting regardless, but like taking into consideration like the
- 36:49Speaker 1: fact that, um, you know, after after this draft last,
- 36:53Speaker 1: there's not going to be another receiver that has the
- 36:55Speaker 1: chemistry that has already been like established with Mac, And
- 36:58Speaker 1: I think, like, you know, there could be someone who's
- 37:00Speaker 1: you know, ranked better, But like, to me, I think
- 37:02Speaker 1: it'd be a better decision to like I'm not gonna
- 37:06Speaker 1: say risk because you know, Metchi's a really good player,
- 37:08Speaker 1: but you know, just you know, you gotta shoot because again,
- 37:11Speaker 1: like this is that last year like the only year
- 37:13Speaker 1: that you can Yeah. But yeah, but but they either
- 37:15Speaker 1: met Yo. Well there, they're not gonna play until, you know,
- 37:18Speaker 1: maybe end of October November, right, you know Williams. Williams
- 37:22Speaker 1: got hurt in January, met she got hurt in December.
- 37:25Speaker 1: But think of it this way, Ben, Think of it
- 37:27Speaker 1: this way, Ben. Before they got to Alabama, mac Jones
- 37:30Speaker 1: and Metchi and Williams never played with each other before.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So they developed a chemistry within a year or so.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Because he was only a starter, like Fred, he was
- 37:38Speaker 1: only started for a year, maybe a year and change,
- 37:41Speaker 1: played a few injury, but basically a year and a half.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Let's let's give him. Let's call it that. They developed
- 37:47Speaker 1: a chemistry that quickly. So you bring another receiver in
- 37:50Speaker 1: through the draft or through free agency and he develops
- 37:52Speaker 1: with them. I mean, I mean it's not impossible. It's
- 37:54Speaker 1: not like just because you went to college together, you're
- 37:56Speaker 1: automatically going to be on the same page. So yeah,
- 37:58Speaker 1: it's I don't worry about it that just get a
- 38:00Speaker 1: good receiver. I just get figured out. Like exactly, it
- 38:02Speaker 1: didn't take long for Randy Moss and Tom Brady to
- 38:04Speaker 1: develop a chemistry exactly what I was great, exactly what
- 38:07Speaker 1: I was. Because they're both really good. Yeah, you know,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I agree on und percent with your point, guys, but
- 38:12Speaker 1: I would say too, like the team that they were
- 38:15Speaker 1: on won the national championship, you know, like if it
- 38:17Speaker 1: was you know, some smaller team, if that's one thing,
- 38:19Speaker 1: but like Mack and Metchi won the national championship together,
- 38:22Speaker 1: Like I feel like that's got to add a little
- 38:24Speaker 1: bit more, you know, add something else to the mix,
- 38:26Speaker 1: because you know they're able to like be successful together.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Granted the Alabama team for stack, but yeah, um, I
- 38:32Speaker 1: don't know. For all we know they hated each other,
- 38:36Speaker 1: like no, but I get your point, you know, and
- 38:39Speaker 1: those windows are so small now, thanks for the call. Then,
- 38:42Speaker 1: because these quarterbacks are playing one or two years and
- 38:45Speaker 1: or the receivers are playing right at two years and
- 38:46Speaker 1: then they're the league. Really yeah, so yeah, um, let's
- 38:50Speaker 1: see Rashad in Baltimore. What's Upsad? Hey? Hey? Uh, well
- 38:58Speaker 1: first for me, first addressed, I guess the first email.
- 39:01Speaker 1: You already know. I love. I love all the topics.
- 39:04Speaker 1: They don't matter. It's about Patriots, it's about President, it
- 39:08Speaker 1: don't matter, it's about anything. I love anything. I'll talk about. Well,
- 39:12Speaker 1: thank you. I want yeah, I want to talk about
- 39:14Speaker 1: the draft, though, I mean, I definitely think the first
- 39:18Speaker 1: we we gotta get a defender. I mean, you can
- 39:22Speaker 1: get a wide receiver in the mid round, second or third,
- 39:24Speaker 1: but I'm with you, Boo Booth or Elam, those are
- 39:28Speaker 1: the ones I'm thinking. I'm thinking Trent McDuffie, he's gonna
- 39:31Speaker 1: be gone. He's gonna be gone early. Probably, Yeah. Three
- 39:36Speaker 1: cornerback probably taking in a top fifteen pick, Yeah, probably probably.
- 39:42Speaker 1: But I agree with you. I think defender, one way
- 39:44Speaker 1: or the other, whether it's cornerback, linebacker, edge, d line whatever,
- 39:49Speaker 1: they need a defender, they need, they need to help
- 39:51Speaker 1: on defense. It's that's glaringly obvious, especially after the last way,
- 39:56Speaker 1: the last season end of I know, I know there's
- 39:58Speaker 1: no chance that the pay Riots get him because most
- 40:01Speaker 1: people think he's might be the top pick. But Aidan
- 40:04Speaker 1: Hutchinson out of Michigan, I mean, I didn't watch a
- 40:07Speaker 1: lot of Michigan, but when I did, like that last
- 40:10Speaker 1: game that he played in the playoffs, I mean, he
- 40:13Speaker 1: completely disappeared like he was neutralized, you know, And I'm
- 40:17Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not really a fan of him. I
- 40:20Speaker 1: don't think really gonna be a late NFL. Yeah, I
- 40:24Speaker 1: just wonder about him. You know, it would be so
- 40:28Speaker 1: Patriot wouldn't be our luck though, right with after drafting
- 40:31Speaker 1: all these edge guys from Michigan, he's the one that
- 40:33Speaker 1: works out and we don't get him, right, Yeah, I
- 40:36Speaker 1: just I just wonder, like I'm sure he's not even
- 40:38Speaker 1: gonna you know, the Patriots want to have a sniff
- 40:40Speaker 1: of him at twenty one, But I just wonder what,
- 40:44Speaker 1: you know, what he's gonna be when he faces the
- 40:47Speaker 1: top competition every week. Yeah, I mean that's a risk
- 40:51Speaker 1: with a lot of these guys who have very little
- 40:53Speaker 1: experience too. Um. What I'm excited about, more so in
- 40:57Speaker 1: this draft than than other years, is that there is
- 40:59Speaker 1: almost no consensus about the top five, yeah to ten.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Like every draft mock draft, you see, there's a different
- 41:07Speaker 1: guy at one, there's a different guy at two. Well
- 41:09Speaker 1: that's what happens when you don't have a lot of
- 41:10Speaker 1: good quarterbacks. Yeah, you know it. Now everyone's like or
- 41:14Speaker 1: that one premier defensive player right now, like that that uh,
- 41:18Speaker 1: like what's his name, Mario Williams. Remember back in the
- 41:21Speaker 1: day when it was him and uh, Reggie Bush and
- 41:24Speaker 1: they went with they went with Williams, Like, I feel
- 41:27Speaker 1: like every time I look at a mock draft, I'm
- 41:28Speaker 1: seeing a different Like it's like a shell game. There's
- 41:31Speaker 1: a different set of top five guys, different player in
- 41:34Speaker 1: a different spot every time. That's why I'm interested in
- 41:37Speaker 1: this draft, dude, because you really don't know where anybody's
- 41:39Speaker 1: gonna go. Yeah, I like it. That's why I'm excited
- 41:42Speaker 1: about the first round. Yeah very much. Yeah, Yeah, I'm
- 41:45Speaker 1: I'm excited for the Patriots too. I'm I really hope
- 41:48Speaker 1: we don't trade back. I'm I'm I'm just trying to
- 41:51Speaker 1: be like, like, if it happens, I'll be okay with it.
- 41:55Speaker 1: But I really want them to just draft of player
- 41:57Speaker 1: in the first round. Let it be an impact player,
- 41:59Speaker 1: somebody we can if they if they good, we can
- 42:01Speaker 1: have that fifth year option. Like I'm just trying to
- 42:04Speaker 1: get some type of impact play because we need something.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I mean, if it's all true, you know the page
- 42:09Speaker 1: it's people are saying that the Patriots have like over
- 42:12Speaker 1: one hundred million in cap space next year, So like
- 42:16Speaker 1: what about like, you know, spending that draft capital next
- 42:19Speaker 1: year to get guys you want this year in the draft,
- 42:22Speaker 1: and then next year, you know, use the money for
- 42:24Speaker 1: free agency, you know, Like I want to say one
- 42:28Speaker 1: thing about Yeah, I mean, I'm coming around. He he
- 42:33Speaker 1: he's definitely different. But I don't think the Patriots going
- 42:36Speaker 1: to get him. I think the Packers are going to
- 42:38Speaker 1: end up getting him what they u with the second
- 42:41Speaker 1: of the first okay, yeah, because they need they need somebody. Yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I just you know, he's my guy. He's the guy
- 42:48Speaker 1: I you know, I kind of you know, watched all
- 42:51Speaker 1: this tape and it's like, Okay, this is the guy
- 42:53Speaker 1: that intrigues me. He's not the best receiver in the draft,
- 42:56Speaker 1: but he intrigues me. Seems like he could do a
- 42:58Speaker 1: lot for the Patriots, you know. So all right, Rachean,
- 43:02Speaker 1: thanks for the call, um um, let's see speaking of things,
- 43:07Speaker 1: speaking of crazy things, uh, David and leads Uk says
- 43:12Speaker 1: after last Thursday show, I had no idea what a
- 43:14Speaker 1: vocal fry was, so I went and looked it up.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I found a YouTube video where someone has put together
- 43:19Speaker 1: a full minute of NonStop Kim Kardashian vocal fries. I
- 43:23Speaker 1: now can't get the insidious, insidious croaking out of my head.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Thanks a bunch, Fred, I'm glad. I didn't hear that.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's I can't stand it. And like people
- 43:35Speaker 1: think it's becoming, it's not. It's not it's unbecoming. It's unbecoming.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I don't like it at all. It's becoming. It's it's
- 43:44Speaker 1: a bad effect. Uh, let's go to Spi and Fresno.
- 43:47Speaker 1: What's up speed? This call pure non football nonsense to
- 43:57Speaker 1: addrest these men bring it. So I got I got
- 44:01Speaker 1: some streaming recommendations Fred and another word complaint. But first
- 44:05Speaker 1: I gotta say I started Severnance over the weekend. Excellent recommendation. Um,
- 44:09Speaker 1: it's like it kind of like made me think about
- 44:11Speaker 1: those Charlie Koffman movies like Being Drawn Alkovict for Eternal Sunshine,
- 44:15Speaker 1: filest Minded or like like Twin Peaks like David Lynch stuff. Yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 1: just really really interesting, totally recommend Okay, good glad you're
- 44:23Speaker 1: enjoying it. Yeah, yeah, man, Um, but then to you, uh,
- 44:28Speaker 1: have you seen have you? I got three shows like
- 44:30Speaker 1: louder Milk, you've seen that one. It's the guy, the
- 44:35Speaker 1: the actor from Office Space, Ron Livingston. He's like a
- 44:38Speaker 1: he plays like this former music critic and like a
- 44:40Speaker 1: recovering alcoholic who's a substance abuse count counselor. And he's
- 44:45Speaker 1: just got he's got a terrible attitude. And it's like
- 44:47Speaker 1: comedy drama type thing, has some great relationships to developed
- 44:50Speaker 1: A good one son Amazon Prime sounds a lot it is.
- 44:57Speaker 1: He is kind of like one of those actors. It
- 44:58Speaker 1: seems like he plays the same guy. Yeah, but it's
- 45:01Speaker 1: a really good show. Um. The other two one of
- 45:04Speaker 1: them is it's an older show. It's called Black Books.
- 45:07Speaker 1: It's like a this British shit come about, like this
- 45:10Speaker 1: weird bookshop owner. It's really really funny. Um, Fred, I
- 45:14Speaker 1: think have you never heard of it? Yeah? Yeah, it's
- 45:18Speaker 1: it's got. It's this bookshop owner, Bernard Black, and he's
- 45:20Speaker 1: just drinking and smoke all the time. He is this
- 45:22Speaker 1: quirky assistant. It's it's hilarious. Okay, it's really funny. Where's that?
- 45:27Speaker 1: And that's that one is also Amazon Prime. And I
- 45:32Speaker 1: think that both of those you can get, you can
- 45:34Speaker 1: get without paying. I'm not sure, but I know this
- 45:36Speaker 1: last one you gotta pay for, but you also absolutely
- 45:39Speaker 1: have to see it. It's this twenty twenty one British
- 45:42Speaker 1: drama called Boiling Point. It's it's like an hour and
- 45:44Speaker 1: thirty minutes, but it's all intensely paced and it's all
- 45:47Speaker 1: in one single shot. It's crazy. It's about this like this,
- 45:51Speaker 1: this like busy London restaurant on like a crazy night
- 45:55Speaker 1: where like all these personal and professional crist is kind
- 45:57Speaker 1: of unfold throughout the evening. But it's all one shows
- 46:01Speaker 1: like an hour and a half nice all right, boiling
- 46:03Speaker 1: point okay, boiling but definitely And then my my one
- 46:07Speaker 1: word complaint, um babe, babe, like just just terms of
- 46:14Speaker 1: endearment in general, they seemed like cookie cutter and kind
- 46:17Speaker 1: of conforming weird with like honey, sweetie, deer, smoothy whatever. Yeah,
- 46:21Speaker 1: but babe is just gross. Well that's Brady, Brady and Edelman. No,
- 46:28Speaker 1: it's also uh no Gino. We got that geno clip.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Thanks babe, thanks babe to stick around for a while. Yeah, thanks, babe.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I don't call anyone babe. No, only only
- 46:43Speaker 1: that one time when he when he lipped locked with Brady.
- 46:45Speaker 1: That was right, even then, even then. Now, when Junior
- 46:49Speaker 1: Sale was on the team, was buddy. Everybody was buddy,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and if he really liked it was buddy, buddy, right,
- 46:54Speaker 1: doubled up everybody was buddy because you couldn't remember your
- 46:57Speaker 1: name either, right, So all right, speed, We're waiting for
- 47:02Speaker 1: the rules on the spelling the spelling speed, all right,
- 47:08Speaker 1: thanks for the call. Tony writes in about Malcolm Butler
- 47:12Speaker 1: and not playing in the Super Bowl. You don't punish
- 47:14Speaker 1: the team for any individual's personal transgression, especially in a
- 47:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl, a game which some might never appear in. Again, inexcusable,
- 47:23Speaker 1: he says, Yeah, I know. We we scratched an old
- 47:26Speaker 1: woman there. Yeah, sorry, I know. Brandon writes in from Framingham.
- 47:31Speaker 1: He says, I've been watching Man in the Arena since
- 47:34Speaker 1: it became available on Hulu. It's obviously a little self serving,
- 47:37Speaker 1: but I think it's cool to listen to some of
- 47:39Speaker 1: the offensive og Patriots, original gangs from Patriots, like Bruski
- 47:45Speaker 1: and Vrabel, and we talk about the team in a
- 47:48Speaker 1: candid way. It's hard to argue that Tom wouldn't have
- 47:50Speaker 1: been successful no matter where he went, but I can't
- 47:53Speaker 1: help but feel like he takes a lot of the
- 47:55Speaker 1: credit for the teams that Belicher created. I thought it
- 47:58Speaker 1: was interesting that an episode six, where Brady goes over
- 48:02Speaker 1: the twenty fourteen season, he begins it by saying he
- 48:05Speaker 1: was putting roots down. And then the Patriots draft Garoppolo
- 48:09Speaker 1: that seemed to really piss him off and was the
- 48:11Speaker 1: fracturing of the Belichick Brady relationship. In hindsight, was probably
- 48:16Speaker 1: did help his drive to compete. Something he did not
- 48:19Speaker 1: include was that after the KC game, Bill was asked
- 48:22Speaker 1: if he was thinking of a quarterback change, and he
- 48:24Speaker 1: just scoffed at the question. None of this really matters
- 48:27Speaker 1: or changes my opinion of anything. But I thought the
- 48:30Speaker 1: narrative he created on the fourteen season was interesting. Okay,
- 48:34Speaker 1: and there's gonna be another one. I thought they were
- 48:36Speaker 1: done with that, but there's a finale coming where he
- 48:39Speaker 1: talks about his departure from New England apparently, Oh yeah, yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: just read about that today, So stay tuned. Does he
- 48:46Speaker 1: Is he going to talk about his near departure or Tampa.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I don't think so, but yeah, I mean, it's so
- 48:52Speaker 1: funny the outrage, the outrage that happened after that, you know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: Instagram retirement from him. Well now we know why he
- 49:02Speaker 1: didn't mention, because this was it was just a leverage play,
- 49:05Speaker 1: the whole thing. Yeah, and you know what, I think,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I went back and looked. I don't think he ever
- 49:09Speaker 1: used the word retire, retirement. He said, I'm gonna leave. Yeah,
- 49:15Speaker 1: so that man, I might go into ownership in Miami.
- 49:18Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, but crazy, crazy stuff. But
- 49:23Speaker 1: now he's playing again. Yeah. See. You wonder though, once
- 49:26Speaker 1: you start thinking about retirement, they say yeah, And that
- 49:32Speaker 1: showed that he was thinking about it. So you wonder
- 49:35Speaker 1: how he's going to be this year. I'll bet he
- 49:38Speaker 1: this will be his last year win or lose. Yeah, yep,
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna say that right now. I think this is
- 49:46Speaker 1: his last year win or lose. Wow, yep. Okay, Now
- 49:51Speaker 1: that doesn't mean he may not eventually go to Miami
- 49:54Speaker 1: and be an owner or somewhere else, or you know,
- 49:57Speaker 1: what if what if he what if he does go
- 49:59Speaker 1: to Miami and plays and owns at the same Well,
- 50:02Speaker 1: then I'm wrong. Then I'm wrong. You know, I wonder,
- 50:07Speaker 1: I wonder if that's something he wants to do. Yeah,
- 50:09Speaker 1: because a lot of times you hear him say he
- 50:11Speaker 1: a lot of times he uses the phrase you know,
- 50:12Speaker 1: there's more, there's more for me to accomplish, or there's
- 50:15Speaker 1: more for me to do, or whatever he wants to
- 50:17Speaker 1: be the first player. Maybe maybe that's what he wants
- 50:21Speaker 1: to do. Yeah. Um, let's see. Justin in Alabama writes in, uh,
- 50:28Speaker 1: forget about the emailer from earlier. Doesn't sound like a
- 50:31Speaker 1: true Patriots fan to me. And if brains were dynamite,
- 50:34Speaker 1: he could he couldn't blow his nose. Oh uh. I
- 50:37Speaker 1: have a hypothetical for you. Let's fast forward four years
- 50:40Speaker 1: and assume that Bill is still the head coach and
- 50:43Speaker 1: Mac is still quarterback looking at a contract extension, which
- 50:47Speaker 1: means we have had success, maybe even a super Bowl title.
- 50:50Speaker 1: What will we look back on as the key moment
- 50:53Speaker 1: or moment decisions that led to our success? Also, Fred,
- 50:58Speaker 1: is is it nice to be able to compare pleat
- 51:00Speaker 1: a thought without Paul chiming in? Oh, I know, Paul
- 51:04Speaker 1: keeps me on my toes. Yeah, it's fine, and I
- 51:07Speaker 1: love just getting our right. Yeah, and you do it
- 51:10Speaker 1: very well. Doesn't take much to get under his no. No,
- 51:13Speaker 1: we both know the buttons. Oh yeah yeah, and in
- 51:16Speaker 1: any seas you give give like one of us a
- 51:18Speaker 1: little look or a wink or raise the eyebrow, and
- 51:20Speaker 1: he knows it's on at that point. Yeah. Yeah, So
- 51:25Speaker 1: in your scenario, what will have been the key moments
- 51:28Speaker 1: or decisions that would have, you know, come up with
- 51:32Speaker 1: that Yes, And I think he's thinking about, like, guys,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you brought in, will we have brought in that key
- 51:38Speaker 1: wide receiver. Will we have you know, brought in a
- 51:41Speaker 1: new tackle or short up the offensive line. I think
- 51:44Speaker 1: it's a skill position guy. I think it's a wide
- 51:46Speaker 1: receiver because I think you've kind of addressed your tight
- 51:49Speaker 1: end spot. You know, obviously we'd like to get more
- 51:51Speaker 1: out of out of Smith Um, but if you get
- 51:55Speaker 1: Smith Henry together, I think you're pretty settled. The running
- 51:58Speaker 1: back committee tends to work itself out whoever's back there.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I think the future looks pretty good with them. You
- 52:05Speaker 1: gotta you gotta get the guy who defenses have to
- 52:09Speaker 1: game plan against at wide receiver and have plenty of
- 52:13Speaker 1: complimentary players right now, but you you don't have that
- 52:16Speaker 1: one guy. I think that's the that's gonna be the
- 52:18Speaker 1: critical thing. Yea Mac grow was saying, if you want
- 52:20Speaker 1: one of those guys, you gotta be aggressive and go
- 52:22Speaker 1: get him. So and then you have Dante Scarnecki who
- 52:25Speaker 1: says that Matt needs his bankie, you know, And and
- 52:30Speaker 1: these guys know something, you know, Dante Scarnecki has been
- 52:33Speaker 1: around the game as long as Bill Belichick has literally yeah,
- 52:36Speaker 1: you know, and so and mostly on the offensive side
- 52:40Speaker 1: of the ball. So he knows and if he's saying it,
- 52:43Speaker 1: then there's something to it. Yeah, you know, And so
- 52:46Speaker 1: maybe that's the key decision or more you know that
- 52:50Speaker 1: they they bring in that bankie for Mac Jones. Um, yeah,
- 52:56Speaker 1: they need they need help at that position big time. Yeah,
- 53:00Speaker 1: that in cornerback and also um, Patrick Mahomes breaks is like, oh,
- 53:05Speaker 1: come on now, you know, crazy things happen, you know, Yeah,
- 53:11Speaker 1: but you can't rely on that being the key turner.
- 53:14Speaker 1: It has to be something the Patriots do internally. Yeah,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and you know this this so much they got to
- 53:19Speaker 1: do right now. They got to show up that defense
- 53:21Speaker 1: they you know, they just have to. But in his scenario,
- 53:24Speaker 1: if Mac is still here four years from now, yeah,
- 53:27Speaker 1: Bill still here from four years from now, that means
- 53:30Speaker 1: they picked up the option. Yeah, and going well enough
- 53:34Speaker 1: that they wanted to pick up the option. Rom that
- 53:36Speaker 1: He's probably gonna be so like, why why did they
- 53:39Speaker 1: go good? Is this question? What what were the factors
- 53:43Speaker 1: that made it go good? Yeah? I think they need
- 53:45Speaker 1: to get the receiver, so they have they have an
- 53:48Speaker 1: offense that can keep up with these other offenses in
- 53:50Speaker 1: the AFC, and they improve their defense to the point
- 53:53Speaker 1: where they can at times shut down or at least
- 53:56Speaker 1: limit some of those other offenses. Because it's only getting
- 54:00Speaker 1: more competitive, not less competitive, in this conference. So they
- 54:04Speaker 1: need to They need more than one thing. They need
- 54:07Speaker 1: two things, both sides of the ball. Let's see. Chris
- 54:11Speaker 1: writes in if He's from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After all
- 54:17Speaker 1: the Seinfeld references, I finally caved and watched the show amazing.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I will say the last episode left me kind of met.
- 54:24Speaker 1: I was wondering what show did you guys love, but
- 54:26Speaker 1: didn't really like the ending. In my opinion, Breaking Bad
- 54:29Speaker 1: is the only solid ending to a fantastic show. Also
- 54:33Speaker 1: side football question, Now the football question question. What's your
- 54:39Speaker 1: pre draft record for the Patriots season next year? I'm
- 54:42Speaker 1: thinking seven and ten to be honest with the defense
- 54:45Speaker 1: we have. Uh, I'm gonna right now, I'm gonna say
- 54:55Speaker 1: nine and eight. Well, yeah, and mine was eight and
- 54:59Speaker 1: nine earlier. I'm gonna stick with that. I mean, DeVante
- 55:03Speaker 1: Parker ticks it up just a little bit, but not
- 55:05Speaker 1: enough to make it, you know, uh, nine and eight
- 55:09Speaker 1: instead of eight and nine. Yeah, but we'll see what
- 55:11Speaker 1: happens in the draft, and you know, there's still a
- 55:13Speaker 1: lot to go. But that's right now. Yeah, you know
- 55:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And I hate to say that. I
- 55:18Speaker 1: hope I'm wrong, but yeah, yeah, and again I'm it's
- 55:21Speaker 1: not just oh, the Patriots are a bad team. Competition exactly.
- 55:25Speaker 1: There's a lot of teams that are right, you know,
- 55:28Speaker 1: really good right now, you know in the AFC. It's
- 55:31Speaker 1: so that's part of it. That's you know, how I'm
- 55:34Speaker 1: factoring in. But things can things can change, and I
- 55:37Speaker 1: hope they do. Um, let's go to New Orleans where
- 55:42Speaker 1: Jerry's calling in from. What's up Jerry? Yeah, what's up
- 55:47Speaker 1: with New Orleans? Uh? Random weather Man, It's it's we
- 55:52Speaker 1: got Bible or either here? Okay, Um, so I got
- 55:56Speaker 1: a couple got two sections three? All is that? All right? Yeah? Shoot?
- 56:01Speaker 1: All right? Cool? Um. With the draft coming up, I
- 56:04Speaker 1: can't help the field that we're gonna take a defensive
- 56:06Speaker 1: player at twenty one, whether it's a cornerback or linebacker.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Take the d n um. With that being said, who
- 56:14Speaker 1: are who are some wide receivers, y'all. Could you know
- 56:18Speaker 1: who do y'all have y'all's eyes on me? Personally? Is
- 56:21Speaker 1: Christian Watson and Met she Bo. I like Watson too.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I like Christian Watson. He's another guy on my board.
- 56:30Speaker 1: But you mentioned you like the guy from Arkansas I
- 56:33Speaker 1: like right now, But Watson I like. I don't. I
- 56:37Speaker 1: think he's a little lower on my board than than Burks,
- 56:40Speaker 1: but I like him as well. I am, um. He
- 56:43Speaker 1: intrigued me. I mean, I don't know if I want
- 56:46Speaker 1: anybody in the first round. Quite frankly, Jerry, I think
- 56:50Speaker 1: I think you'd be better off getting uh, getting one
- 56:53Speaker 1: of those guys in the second round, because I think
- 56:55Speaker 1: they're more of him. Yeah, you know, I agree. In
- 56:58Speaker 1: terms of wide receiver, I'm not going to get one
- 57:00Speaker 1: of the pre premo guys. So either Watson or Burke's
- 57:04Speaker 1: second round. Um, you know, in first round, like I
- 57:06Speaker 1: mentioned the Kobe Dean from Georgia, he could be available
- 57:09Speaker 1: at twenty one. He could be Yeah, I don't. I
- 57:13Speaker 1: don't think it's likely, but I think he could. You know, Yeah,
- 57:17Speaker 1: I put the low percentage on that likelihood. But you know,
- 57:20Speaker 1: because there could there's probably gonna be a run on cornerbacks,
- 57:23Speaker 1: and there's probably gonna be a run on wide receiver.
- 57:25Speaker 1: There's always a run on some position. Yeah, inexplicably the
- 57:28Speaker 1: linebacker could drop yeah. Fair Um Okay, second question, Um,
- 57:35Speaker 1: it's it's a tribute question. Okay, game. Um. Who who
- 57:40Speaker 1: holds the single game most receiving you receiving yard in
- 57:44Speaker 1: a game for the Patriots or NFL in general? In
- 57:49Speaker 1: the NFL? Oh god, single game reception yards. We probably
- 57:56Speaker 1: should know this. Um, it's not Julio, I'll put it
- 58:00Speaker 1: that way. M hmm. Calvin Johnson. No, so I'm i'm
- 58:10Speaker 1: i'm I'm feeling like it's somebody from like the eighties
- 58:13Speaker 1: or nineties, Am I right? Or no? M I'm not
- 58:17Speaker 1: sure when he played, but I do think it's it's
- 58:19Speaker 1: it's around that area, Okay, NFC team, NFC bigger than
- 58:27Speaker 1: a bread box, that's like a twenty one Henry Ellard, No,
- 58:34Speaker 1: all right, who is it? It's Willie Flipper Anderson and
- 58:40Speaker 1: from them from the Rams, right from the Rams. Yeah Rams.
- 58:44Speaker 1: He set the record against into the New Orleans Saints
- 58:47Speaker 1: in the in the Superdome. Yeah. I want to say
- 58:49Speaker 1: three thirty six. Yeah, I picked the wrong ram. I
- 58:52Speaker 1: went with Henry Ellard right. I knew it was somebody
- 58:55Speaker 1: on the RAMS because I remember the game. Okay, Flipper Anderson. Yeah, well,
- 59:00Speaker 1: thank you guys for making my day all right and pleasure.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Thanks j John, don't be a stranger. Call in, call again.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Calling from New orle said they're having a wild wild
- 59:10Speaker 1: wild weather. I guess tornadoes, and we don't get a
- 59:16Speaker 1: lot of New Orleans listeners that contribute. That's a rare run. Uh,
- 59:22Speaker 1: Phil writs in from Austin, Texas. Uh. He says for
- 59:27Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame, his vote is will Fork. Okay,
- 59:29Speaker 1: he was the anchor of the defense for almost ten years.
- 59:32Speaker 1: I think part of the reason Belichick traded Richard Seymour
- 59:36Speaker 1: was that the Patriots couldn't afford new contracts for both
- 59:38Speaker 1: Wilfork and Seymour, so he kept Vince and traded Seymour.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Nothing against Mankins, but he did get turn styled in
- 59:45Speaker 1: two Super Bowls and an AFC Championship against Denver. Yeah,
- 59:49Speaker 1: it's unfortunate that in some of the biggest games the
- 59:53Speaker 1: old Lion and mancons and particularly didn't didn't play that well.
- 59:57Speaker 1: But overall he's one of the greatest linemen teams ever
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: had Burton Burton Island. I'm so glad you brought up
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: vocal fry. It drives me nuts. Eric, I can't believe
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: you weren't aware of this. As someone who does still
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: watch the news, vocal fry skews more younger and more female.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Criticizing vocal fry is now often labeled sexist. There is
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: an evolutionary theory about women affecting this guttural tone as
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: a means to compensate for the unfair physical disadvantage that
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: natural selection is bestowed. That's kay. I don't agree with that,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: or it could be just a fat I think it's
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: more that. In any case, just google it, Eric, or
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: listen to any young NPR podcast reporter. Once you start
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: hearing it, you will join the club of the perpetually annoyed.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: You're welcome, you know. I listened to you know Howard
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Stern once in a while. He I think he might
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: have termed vocal fry. If not him, he was one
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: of the first to make it popular. And if he
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: watches The Bachelor like I've never watch that show, but
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I guess there was this one of the guys, Howard
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Stern watches the best. Yeah, he loves that show really. Yeah,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: And one of the guys who was the Bachelor had
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: the worst male vocal fright, it was just like ridiculous,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: like ridiculous. So it's basically a millennial thing, right yeah,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, oh yeah absolutely, Yeah, Why why would I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: want to hear it? Then? If it's not annoying, Well,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: once you hear it, then you can't not hear it,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: right then you you can't not hear it when other
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: people do it. Yeah, you know, it's like, what do
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: you why we're talking like that? Stop it all right,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: We're gonna take a break when we come back. More

- 1:08:48Speaker 1: it's a balancing act. And I mean I think building

- 1:09:32Speaker 1: and so that guy's dead now, everybody, so blood neutralizes
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: the word. We use that fastest I've ever seen you
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: dispose of my body. That was impressive. I'm good. That's good.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: I don't have to bear witness being on the phone
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: right now. I don't know what happened. What happened saying
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: didn't see anything? Thanks Todd, appreciate it. That's another great
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: moment from all right back here in Patriots un filter
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: at five five, Pat's five hundred. It's the aceticket hut
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: line web radio at patriots dot com is the email
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: address getting a lot of emails in Uh, here's one
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: at the top. He's Nolan writes in finally about binge watching,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I finally got my girlfriend to watch the Marvel series.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Just finished Wanda Vision. In return, we also watched Ghost
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Adventurers and Stranger Things. Those are all different. Ranger Things
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: is at Marvel. Uh. Wanda Vision was really good. Um
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: it was. It took like three or four episodes to
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: understand what would the hell was going on? But once
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: you did, it was an excellent story. I thought it
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: was well done. Is it its own self contained series? Yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: the series is self contained, but you can find out
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: the further events in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie on
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: May fifth. Oh so it is part of the Marvel.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, part of the Marvel Oh it is? Oh yeah, okay,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: absolutely but really excellent, excellent. Well didn't you think that
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: was well done? Well written. One division has been my
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: favorite out of the Disney Plus show so far was
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: that Paul Bettany who played in the He played the vision.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, Who was Wanda Elizabeth Olsen little sister? Oh okay, yeah.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I would highly recommend that. Like the first couple episodes, episodes,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you'd be like, what are they doing here? But then
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: you know, you learn more and it's like it totally
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: makes sense. What's going on? So very good, very good.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Bill and Boseman writes in about the Hall of Fame finalists,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I agree that all three deserve to be in the
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Patriots Hall. But for me, Big Vince is a no
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: brainer for this year. He was a great player, great
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Patriot leader with a big heart and big personality. I
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: think the Patriots Hall folks need to have that extra
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: non football element that ties them to the legacy of
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: the team. I know Paul isn't here to argue against that.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: I also have maybe an irrational reason to not pick
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Vrabel right now, and that's just because he's still in
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: the league as a coach for another team. He definitely
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: deserves it, but maybe it can wait a while. It
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: has waited a while. Pretty soon he's not gonna pick
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: up the phone. I get that, you know, like, if
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: if Rabel does get in the like, you know, you
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: can't have different type of ceremony. Yeah, you can't have
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: him back for a game and all that stuff. Yeah,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: but I don't think that should be the factor. No,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: it shouldn't, you know. I don't think that he's deserving
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: of getting in. He should get in and then you
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: worry about those particulars later. Yep, um, let's see. Yan
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: from Prague, Czechoslovakia writes in just listening to Thursday Show
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: and so far you could not mention any of my
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: favorite stand up comedians. So do you love them or
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: hate them? Jim Jeffries don't know him, don't know Ricky
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Gervais him, love him, Louis c k loved him until
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: he had his thing and now he doesn't do much right?
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Or is he back on tour? I don't know. I'm
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: not a I was never a fan of it, but
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: he was he was funny. Oh you didn't you didn't
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: like him. I didn't care for him really why. I
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: don't know. He just his type of you know series,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: the show that he had on TV. No, he was
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: really good. He was on the top and he blew it.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: You know, he he could have done anything. Jimmy Carr
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I don't know him either. That name sounds a little famliar,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: but I don't. No, I can't place him. Bill Burr
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: is appearing locally. He's at Fenway Park. He's gonna oh yeah,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: a show at Fenway Park. Oh really a show? Yeah?
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Oh wow, Yeah, he's gonna fill that Stanton. Well that's
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: the question, really, yeah, that's the question. Um. But yeah,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: So Bill Bird's gonna be at Fenway Park. Ricky's yourvass
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: made some good series too. Have you ever watched any
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: of his series? He's he's funny as hell. I mean
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: he was the originator of the Office. Yeah. So when
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: he sold it to NBC, excuse me, for sure, he
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: breaked in a bunch of dough yeah from that, um,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: but he did it. I think they did twelve episodes
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: of the British version. Yeah, and it was just laugh
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: out loud, funny. Yeah. Uh. And then he did another
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: series called Extras where he and a couple of his
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: friends on the show were trying to be actors, so
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: they would show up as extras for all these movie
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: things and they would get to meet all these like
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: like actual actors that were playing themselves, Like Kate Winslett
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: played herself. Yeah, but like like like a fictionalized version
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: of herself where she was like, you know, over dramatic
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: and whatever. But that was a good concept. Yeah, a
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: good way to like bring in stars every week exactly. Yeah,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: good vehicle. Uh yeah, he's he's really funny. Ricky Gervais.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Sean's in Vancouver. What's up Sean? Okay, a couple of things.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: So you guys are doing three shows next week for
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: the draft. Does that mean that there's no show on Tuesday?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: The amazing Yeah. The question I have is, in terms
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: of our first round, let's say some players fall like Um.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Of all these players, which one would you want the
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: most of any of the four receivers like London Wilson
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Williams or a lave or m Georgia nose tackle Jordan
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Davis Um linebacker Devin Lloyd, Um Florida State edge Jermaine
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Johnson or cornerback Trent McDuffie. Which one of those guys
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: would you hope falls the most. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I mean the guy that I know it's boring, but
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: guy no, the Alabama tackle the offensive alignment. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: that would be something. I mean, I wasn't I wasn't
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: thinking of anyone like that that would be top five.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: But yeah, obviously grab him. I was thinking of guys
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: that might have might have a chance. See, I think
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Williams has a chance. I think Williams, Williams has a
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: chance to fall. Yeah, you know, so that would be
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: your player jameson william Yeah, I think so. If if
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: he's a twenty one, you gotta get him, even if
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: he's not gonna play this year. Um, Like, like I said,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: he got hurt in January. Yeah, so what do they say,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: like nine months now? Probably you know that puts him
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: into late October and then they're never the same for
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: that first first year. So you know, what you get
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: out of him this year is questionable. But man, it's
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: a long term investment. It's it's it's a little bit
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: of a risk. But man, if he's right, there's your connection. Yeah,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: because I mean he's got probably the best opportunity to
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: become a Hall of Famer on the long run stuff. Yeah,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: but I would I would answer your question directly, Sean,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: I would say the Georgia guy Davis. Yeah, if he
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: felt I would, I would definitely take him. Here, you're
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: looking at somewhat of like a Wilfork type. Not quite
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: as big as Wilfork, I don't think, but um, that
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: type of player, like a big, powerful defensive lineman in
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: the middle, especially with the way they've gotten run on
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: in the past few years. They need to need to
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: stop the bleeding there. Yeah. Yeah, he's definitely that guy
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: in the middle. Yeah. All right, Well thanks a lot, Paul,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Thanks Sean, appreciate it. Um, let's get back to some
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: of these emails. Uh, let's see Wand from Stratford has
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: a trade package for wide receiver. First, he says, screw
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that hater email you just read earlier, you guys rock
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: on a different note, seeing the latest news on Deebo,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Samuel Terry McLaurin, and A J. Brown contract issues, would
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: you package a deal to trade for any one of
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: those three wide receivers and what would that package look
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: like that's the thing, you know, Deebo Samuel is looking
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: for twenty five million a year and that's the going
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: rate for good. So you're packaging up assets and you're
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: gonna have to pay the guy. Yeah, I don't think that.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I just don't think they have enough assets to well,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: like I said, you'd have to dip into twenty twenty
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: three probably yeah, you know, um, like he was like
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: the ceiling so high on him. But think about it,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: like you what player on this team would be so
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: attractive to another team that they'd picks? Yeah? Yeah, you'd
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: have to give up two draft picks, probably one this year,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: one next year, and to kill Harry No, I no,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean it's the price is so
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: high for a guy like that. Um, to me, McLaurin
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: and Brown aren't as good, so maybe you wouldn't have
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: to give it much for those two. But um. Still,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: you know, these are the impact wide receivers that mac
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: gill's talking about. You know, you've got to be aggressive
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: if you want to get them. You know, I was
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: thinking about it, like, you know, the Patriots haven't really
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: drafted a lot of wide receivers in the first round.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: You know, they did with Harry Um, but it's not
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: often that they do. And obviously they haven't drafted any
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the first round right under Belichick under Belichick
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: and I think since other than that, and you know,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I'm just guessing here, but you know, drafting those high
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: impact positions in the first round, like you know, quarterback, cornerback,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: you know, edge edge rusher, and receiver, it's tough because
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: if they are good, their second contract is huge, huge,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: as opposed to like lineman or interior defensive guys or linebackers,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: their quarter their second contracts are a little bit more manageable.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: You know, they're still getting big though, like oh yeah,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: oh yeah, look at uh yeah the money he got, well,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I think the Patriots screwed that up. I don't know
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: why they offered him a franchise tag. You know, he's listen,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: he's a good player. I think he's overpaid, you know,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: because of that. You know, but it's when you when
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: you draft those those impact positions, be prepared to show
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: you've got to You've got to if they're good, and
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: you hope they're good because they were your first round pick.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: It's gonna cost you a lot of money, you know,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: And that was the whole thing between Peyton Manning and
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Tom Brady. Peyton Manning was a first round draft pick.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: Brady was a six round draft pick. And I remember
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: at the time, when you know, it was time for
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Brady's you know, extension, there was a lot of talk about, oh,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: it's got to be where Manning is, and I think
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: the team was arguing, well, no, you know, Manning started
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: from you know, a number, you know, number one overall pick,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: and Brady you're starting from a sixth round and Brady's
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: camp was, well, it doesn't matter. He's just as good
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: now what matters, Yeah, it doesn't matter where he was drafted.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: And that I think that was you know, one of
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: the back and forth between Don Yee and the team
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: at the time is you know, he's not starting from
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: a first round position, you know. Yeah, And because they
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: don't go down, the contracts don't go down, I can
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: only go up. You know. It's funny because Bill always
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: likes to say about players, whether they're undrafted or tryouts
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: or first round picks, it doesn't matter how you got here,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: it's what you do once you get here. Right, how
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: come that doesn't apply when it comes to contracts. He did,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: all right, Yeah, he's fine. Jack writes in for me, Annaba,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: I listened to your show because you provide interesting information
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: about the Patriots in an entertaining and sometimes humorous manner,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: especially like your imitation of the cheesy sideline reporter who
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: covered the joint practices at Detroit. He does. He does
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: the pregame, their pregame show on the big their job,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: and it's like, well, welcome in game between the vegans
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: and the lions. And that's not an exaggeration, it really isn't.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: And if you're a lie, don't forget to visit the
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: concession stands. Well, you get it. We've got a lot
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: of specials today is great. Oh my god. If you
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: get it an hour early, you get a free hot dog.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Condiments are free, come with the whole. He said something else.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: Oh no, no, um hot dogs. Justin writes in, I
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: don't know if he's from England or his last name
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: is England. Okay, he's just in England. Yeah, quick game
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: for you guys. Uh, not football related. Which do you
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: prefer one Ford or Chevy for a truck? I don't know.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: They're both made in America, so can't go wrong. Oh boy, okay,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: mister Patriot, I don't know's I never one? Yeah, I
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: would like to have a pickup truck though, just for well,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: I want to get an electric one. That's my next car.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Do they make electric page they are starting to Who
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: does for Chevy? Both of them do? Yeah. Yeah. I
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: don't know if they're available yet though, that's the thing,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: and they're gonna be freaking expensive. I'm gonna figure what
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: bank I'm gonna rob to get it. Um uh, pop
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: tarts or Cereal for breakfast? Oh? Cereal? Yeah, I mean
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: when I was when I was younger, I used to
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: love pop tarts though I did joy, but not the
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: frosted ones. Yeah, I used to have the frosted ones.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Nike or Adidas, Oh you say that very quickly. Oh yeah,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I've always been a Nike guy ever since I was
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: ever tried Adidas, Uh tried them on? Yeah? No, I
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: just never like a look. I didn't like the look.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Here we go, Here we go. Nike makes the best
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: products when it comes to sporting equipment. I disagree. I disagree.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: It depends on what you're doing, Like, are you playing tennis?
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: Are you running are you? But like if Hoka, everybody's Hooka,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: everybody is being Hoca. Now you see the why the
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: thick souls? Now all the all the brands have them. Nike,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: they all have them. Hoka started it. Yeah, one of
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: the most comfortable sneakers out there. Where are they from?
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: I don't know whether I mean then why don't they're America?
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: But you buy them everywhere. I never heard of Hoka
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Hoka h Oka yep ye. One of the most comfortable
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: sneakers you can buy. And you know everyone's copying them now.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: But you you're you need to expand your um my
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: clothing horizons. Absolutely, It's it's not all about Nike's got
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: some good products, but there's there's some other Like if
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: you're a runner, like some runners swear by A six
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, I I liked using Nike for everything
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: running well, just regular regular wear every day where for
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: crying out loud, NFL loves them. They make all the jerseys. Yeah,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: because they paid. They are good though, um but there's
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: some good sneakers out there besides Nike, uh Coke or
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Pepsi for drinks. Couldn't have disagree more Pepsi's for children,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: Coke Focus for adults. That's the guy who ordered off
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: the kid's menu today, Cocus for adults. When it comes
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: to the straight up. Now, if you go diet diet
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: pepsis better than diet Coke, They're both better, but Coke
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Cocus is for real. Coke had to change their formula
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: to compete with Pepsis, and then they went, no Pepsi's
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: for kids, uh, DC or Marvel for superhero I defer
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: to Matt Marine Corp. Matt and that he was okay
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: to like them all. But if you had to choose,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: play the game, true geek, Yeah, play the game. Yeah,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Batman and Superman, you can't go you can't go wrong
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: with them. You know who has the bigger universe is
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: a Marvel. I think Marvel has more characters. Yeah, character wiser,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: they have the bigger universe probably, but I mean comic wise,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: there's a ton of characters both ways. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: just Batman is Superman to me or the elite. I mean,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: spider Man's great too. In the Hulk, I love the
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Hulk as well, but those are the you know, if
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: you're looking at the mount Rushmore of superheroes, it starts
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: with Batman. It's Superman, don't you think. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: That's why I say deferred to him on this. Spielberg
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: or John Hughes as a movie to watch. Spielberg probably, Yeah,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: I guess, so I know John. I've seen John Hughes movies. Um,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: but like I can't remember which ones they were. You know,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: he's good, he is good. I would take. But I'll
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: go with Spielberg. Cheers or Seinfeld as a sitcom Seinfeld
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: every Day? Yeah, you know close. I mean Cheers was
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: a great sitcom. It was great, but it petered out.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Yeah it Peter Seinfeld. I mean I didn't care for
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the Seinfeld ending so much. Okay, the finale, but the
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: show in itself. Oh yes, Seannery or Roger Moore as Bond,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: Uh yeah, Sean Connery. Although you know, Roger Moore was
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Bond when I was a kid, so like, I didn't
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: do that many though, did he know? But Live and
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Let Die was one of the best movies I saw
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: as a kid. You know. I will say though, Daniel
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Craig was my all time Bond favorite. Oh, I think
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: he's I think, I really do. I mean, people will
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: like Sean Connor, you know, like the die Hards, but
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: I think Roger Craig was better, and he was did
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: you do that on purpose? Well, as I was saying it,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I knew I had the wrong Craig, but I said
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: it anyway so that you'd laugh. Well done, and he
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: was a good one. Well done, John Wayne or Clint
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Eastwood as a cowboy, Clint Eastwood, I think Clint Eastwood
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: yeah uh. And finally George Carlin or Rodney Dangerfield, probably Rodney.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: I think Carlin was more creative, but Rodney Rodney could
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: you could laugh just looking at Yeah, and he was funny.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: And then Caddyshack did it for me. I mean he
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: stole that show, right is that? How come with the
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: Bull of Souper? He and Bill Murray stole the show,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: absolutely did. But I mean the scenes with Rodney Danney,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: every one of them was laugh out loud. Yeah, you
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: know the way he teased Ted Knight, you know, Oh
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: that's his style of comedy, right, Yeah, you look good
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: at the electricity, nice kid, No, I know, I tigers,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: they're young. Tell the chef this tastes like dog food
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: and he's like dog food. Though, great great movie. That
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: was a good game. Yep. It was, Uh, let's see
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Addison right soon. Where is he from Fresno? On Thursday? Yeah,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: On Thursday, the topic of opinions came up, and I
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: felt the need to share my opinion on the subject.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: Both Fred and Eric said that opinions can be wrong,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: and while the facts within the opinion may be false,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: the opinion itself is still the person's opinion, like friend's
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: opinion about nikes, yeah, and therefore the fact that it
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: is their opinion is true. For example, say I declare
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I believe that I am a tomato plant objectively, no
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: matter how much I feel like even if I paint
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: myself green and stand in the sun all day to photothyticize,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I won't actually get to be a tomato plant, and
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: I will never bear fruit. However, it would still be
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: true that I believe that I am a tomato plant.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: In this case, the facts of my opinion are laughably incorrect,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: but the fact that I believe those facts is still true,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: and therefore my opinion that I am a tomato plant
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: would be correct. The fact you have an opinion, yeah,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: is correct, but the opinion itself isn't necessarily correct. I'm
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: excited to hear your opinion of my opinion of opinions,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: your two opinion needed yea and as we uh just
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: want to be talking about that nonsense? No socks comes in.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: What's up, Matt? Turn your microphone? I hit it, said,
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: I hit it right, I blame Morrell? All right, Wow,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: controversy right off the bat. Um you guys scrape in
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: the bottom of the barrel. No do show, no perilla. Yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: we actually talked to a lot of football in this show.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Did you good? Yeah? What? What's what's the um? What's
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: the topic? Does your well we're talking draft Jo, talking
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: to Hall of Fame finalists and people interested in that. Yeah.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Two people have written in about that among the many emailers.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: And who do you think both of them said they're
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: going to vote for? Is it a finalist? Yes? Okay? Um,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: So I had somebody asked me this the other day.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Who I thought was going to get in from the
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: fan vote in my prediction is Wilfork. I think Wilfork
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: is going to carry the fan vote. But we had
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: a caller who can't hauled in and said that he
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: was swayed by our arguments for Rabel, right, so he's
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: going to vote for Vrabel so I was very surprised,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: and I think Fred and I didn't talk about this,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: but I did talk to another member of the committee
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: prior to it, and I said, I really think Rabel
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: is getting the short end of this. I agree, and
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: I said, and not that this is the reason to
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: do it, but I think you can kind of look
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: at this on the way out. Look all three people
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: who were finalists this year, I don't think there's any
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: question or all deserving to be in the Patriots Hall
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: of Fame. And in a lot of ways, it's very
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: eye opening that Wes Welker couldn't even get on the ballot.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: I was having a conversation with a colleague yesterday and
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: he was talking about Welker versus Edelman, and I remember
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: famously we're in Atlanta for the Super Bowl and I
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: was having the conversation with your former colleague may Hart,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: and he goes to be a favor. Don't embarrass yourself.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Open the media guide and just take a look at
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: the media guide, and when you look at welkers statistics,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: their mind boggling. Yea, how he's not a finalist is unreal.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: He's going into the Patriots Hall of Fame. Or he
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: better Yeah, and then it's well, when does Vinitary become eligible?
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: When does Brady become eligible? Devin mccordy Matthew slid like,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: when's rebel getting in? Like you could it could be
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: a long time down the road. So why why is
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: Rabel not? Like? Is it because of his stance that
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: he took you know, eight that he's not getting in?
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Is it the fact that he didn't finish as a Patriot?
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Is it the fact that he's a pretty good coach
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: and he's beaten your team a couple of times head
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: to head? Why is it that he doesn't rise to
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: the level of think of the fee and vote? I think,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: you know, if it was Rabel and you know, Bill Parcels,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: and he'd get in. But he just happens to be
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: in an error where there's just a lot of fan favorites,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: you know. But I don't think there's any Patriot fan
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: that thinks he shouldn't be in, whereas like a guy
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: like Bill Parcels, there are some polarized, there are some
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: that say he shouldn't be in. But I just think
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: it's just we're given three choices and you can only
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: choose one, and so he gets the short end of
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: the stick. It's yeah, I just I try to put
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: myself in his shoes. Where like every year for however
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: many years, this is now six straight phone rings like hey, hi,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: it's Patriots Hall of Fame. You're a finalist this year,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: and he goes, yeah, great, thanks and hangs up because,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: like Wentz, he gonna get in. I have heard through
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: the grapevine that he not about this year. I haven't
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: heard about it this year, but I've heard that he's
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: tired of it. Wouldn't you be? Yeah? I would be.
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: And I'm trying to think again. So we're having a
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: conversation here. Does he deserve to be in before Light
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: And I would say yes, I say yes. Does he
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: deserve to be in before Falk And I would say yes.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Are those the two biggest ones that we can think of?
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Does he deserve to be in before Raymond Cliborne? Yes?
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I agree. So there's three times and I don't know,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: I'm not looking at who the finalists were or anything
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: like that, but there's three times where you can say
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: I don't think he deserves to be in. Well, does
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: he deserve to be in ahead of Rodney? I say yes? Okay,
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: so that's I mean, yeah, I mean you can make
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: an argument for all of it. Richard Seymour, I think
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: it was a better football player and a better Patriot
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: than Mike Rabel was. And and Richard Seymour spent the
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: bulk of his career with the Patriots and he's now
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: going to cant in the summer. I'll tell you a
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: funny story. I was going to Tennessee for a conference,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: you know, tech conference, one of our partners. And I'm
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: on the plane and a woman sits down with a
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: big kid, right, and I don't know who they are.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: They start talking and it's like, yeah, this, this whole
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: thing is ridiculous. He gets in it every year and
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: they never vote him in. It was Rabel's wife and
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: his son from BC coming back to Tennessee, and I
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: sat with him the whole time. I didn't say a word,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: and at the end I introduced myself and I said,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: by the way, I agree with you, it's ridiculous. Right,
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Fred has a good solution for this dilemma, Okay, brought
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: up I have one as well. Friends has probably I
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: just if you're on the ballot, you know, final three
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: or five years in a row you get in, you know,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: I think that's fine. Um. Next year there is going
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: to be the Veterans Committee, um, and there will be
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: probably some sort of groundswellow support for a guy like
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Julius Adams. I'm not sitting here try to knock Julius
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Adams because he was a great patriot other than Brady
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: did he is he second in games played? I think
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Julius Adams there's something to it from a longevity standpoint
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: that you can mace for Julius Adams. I would argue
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: from a veteran standpoint, put Rabel in, forget about Julius Adams,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: John Smith, Fred Marry and some of these people that
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: people are, you know, advocating their candidacies, and that's great,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: but let's if he doesn't get in this year, there
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: should be a wrong righted by making sure that what
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: what's the criteria for veteran like I know, like in
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: the Canton Hall of Fame, he wouldn't be eligible because
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: veteran you have to be out of the game for
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: like twenty years or something like that. I don't know,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: and has Julius was his was Julius's last year eighty five,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: so he certainly wouldn't do that. I don't know, but
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: see eligible for the Veteran committee probably, I don't think.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: So are there rules for that? I don't know. I
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: think so. I'm not on that committee, so I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: I would assume though you have offended. I'm offended that
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: I am on the car. I'm offended you don't know
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: the rules. That's fair. That's fair. Uh. Liam from North Yorkshire,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: UK love the show listened to Oh by the way, Matt.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: We started to show off with someone who just thought
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: we were absolute clowns talking about everything but football. Were
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: just terrible and you know, said we would never read
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: his email email, So I read it anyway, Okay. We
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: like those kind of emails. When they go low, you
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: go high, quick quick. Aside. Julius Adams, I don't remember
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: this came back after that Super Bowl in nineteen eighty seven,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: wearing number sixty nine. Oh yeah, yeah, so that was
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: his last appearance on the Patriot. I thought it was
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: a Super Bowl bus. Okay. Anyway, Liam writes in um,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: all you guys, you guys do a great job of
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: the Patriots talk, but also the random topics that pop
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: up each show in reference to the guy who buys
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: the jersey of well known draft bus from Thursday Show. Yeah,
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: we had a caller who says he buys like draft
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: bus JaMarcus Russell. Yeah, that's the one he was wearing. Actually, yeah,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: he was trying leaf. I have a few recent bus
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: for you guys. Johnny Manziel, that'd be good. That's a
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: good one, actually, very good one. Josh Rosen another good one,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: I would think. Yeah. I think he was right outside
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: the first round, first round for sure. M Paxton Lynch, Yeah,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I think he's in the USFL. Now is he? Did
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: anybody watch that this weekend? Now out there? Watch it
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: at all? Isaiah Wilson Wilson, I don't even remember wide receiver.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: I don't even know. I've never heard of him, right, Uh?
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: And too a taglia Vola. Yeah, I don't, I don't.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: I don't him. Way too early, it's too early, uh,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: he says, I personally don't think he's that bad, but
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: Miami seems pretty down on him, as does the rest
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: of the league. He's beaten you three times? Yeah, right, Yeah,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: I think way too early to call him a bust. Yeah.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: And also don't you uh? And then he says nikkil Harry,
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: which goes without saying yeah, I mean it's too bad.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: I always say, well, maybe this year he'll catch on.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: All right, can I bring it? I don't know if
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: this type of conversation has made its way to Patriots unfiltered.
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: So let me let me bring a topic up with
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: the draft a little more than a week out. Um,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: what are the chances that Jake Bailey is on this
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: team on May first? Well? If they draft this other
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: kid out of was it San Diego? I think he's
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: the left footed punter that you punt it like eighty
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: eighty yards or something like that. Um, I think I
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: think Jake Bailey is on the team on May first. Yeah,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: at that number, what's he getting? Like four million? Yeah
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: for a punter? Yeah? Doesn't that stick like a short thumb? No? No,
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: not really? Okay, maybe I guess I don't have my
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: punter salaries. Um, memorize that seems really high and in
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: a Patriots ecosystem, seems really really Yeah. Well, I mean
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: they've got this other guy, and you know, I think
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: he's gonna get drafted, the guy from San Diego State,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: you know, lower probably, but but I guess he's that good,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: you know so so so? Was that one that is
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: so obvious that it's not that it won't happen in
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Is that why you say that? Eric? No, I just
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: think I think people are really what's the word I'm
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: looking for, people are people are really prejudiced by what
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: they saw this past season when Jake Bailey was hurt
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: pretty much the entire year. Was he yes, he had
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: a knee injury. Was he on the injury report? He
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: was early on about that because I mean, you know
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: he was injury. He was on the injury report early
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: in the season, and I believe he dealt with something
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: the entire year, which is why many times we saw
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: Nick Folk kicking off in games. I saw, Yeah, they
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: were managing this injury of of Bailey's. And look, he's
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: your kickoff specialist, he's your backup field goal kicker in
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: a pinch, and he's a Pro Bowl, All Pro caliber punter.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: He's not going anywhere. Yeah, that's why I see. I mean,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: they know they know better if if you're right, Eric,
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: and he was hampered by that, they know that too,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: and then he will be on the team. Yeah. I
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: just I mean, I believe you and when you go
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: through it and you talk about I agree with you
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: that they were managing him throughout the year, But he
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: didn't have a good year last year. And I don't
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: know if who can just sit there and blame that
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: all on injury. I mean, he should there ever be
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: one kickoff that goes out of bound, let alone two?
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: And is that an injury situation there? Like those those
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: just we laugh at teams where those things happen in
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: special teams, and those kind of gaps happened far too
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: often last year. And I just didn't think he had
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: a very good year to me. To me, he seemed
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: like the kind of person I don't know him, so
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: you don't want to disparage him. The classic example of
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: a guy who achieved something and let it get to
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: his head and then really came back to earth. Can
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: you get back to that other spot through? Is that?
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: I don't know, And I don't know that I want
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: to spend four million dollars hoping that he can, because
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: that position to me seems like that's a million and
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: a half or two million. Well hope you hope that
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: your punter sees very little action, but unfortunately no, you know,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: on this team last year. They needed him a lot.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: So I don't know. I I don't know. To me,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: four million isn't that much, Okay, I mean it's not
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: that much to me either. I mean, yeah, Folk resigned
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: for what was it seven? No, I was gonna say
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: he's four Oh, he's still he's I forgot what his
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: number was. But it's in that general range, you know,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: it's not like it's not double digit million. Should I
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: have like THEE, should I have salary cap figures here
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: when I come to the show, like not an what
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: about morel Should he have um salary cap figures? Like no, no, okay, no,
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: we usually have you know, cap space. Uh, call in
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: when we have Oh, but like if it's a guy
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: that really like recently signed, we'll know that contract numbers.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: But it's not you know, like Tyreek Hill. We know
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: thirty million a year. We know stuff like that, the
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: general range. You know, so kickers making a few million,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: I mean that's the going rate for a good player
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: now at that position. And look the caps exploding. It
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: didn't explode this year, but it's gonna next lad next year.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: Somebody wrote the other day, the day of one hundred
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: million dollars a year quarterback is not as well. Let
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: sounds just outlandish, I think all of us because of
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: the cap that you're gonna see something stupid like that happen.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: It's probably true, isn't it. Like, well, they're up to
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: over forty Yeah, now right, So yeah, it's gonna take
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: a while, but yeah, I don't think it's gonna happen
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: in the eventual will but maybe in the next decade.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Eventually it will. You know, there's all kinds of talks
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: about new uh, you know, the broadcast package is done,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: but there's all these subsidiary packages that are you know,
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: coming out and you know Florio was writing about, um,
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: Apple could possibly you know, be the new owners of
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: the Sunday ticket, which was always you know, Direct TV,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: but now Apple could take that for billions and they
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: could sell parts of it too back to sun you know,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: uh satellite, but they could keep that for you know,
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: they're subs gribbers, you know, for huge dollars, huge dollars
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: um you know. So there's all kinds of those streaming
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: packages that are you know, gonna make the league so
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: much more money. Yeah, does Apple get on the headset
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: if they get that package? Because Bosa is out. Bosa
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: is out. But you would think you'd want like a
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: company that actually makes a product, I would think, and
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I guess you know Apple does. They make like those
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: earbud things, well not just the earbuds, they make like
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: a high quality headset over the ear over the year.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: It's like five six hundred bucks a pair. O Um.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: But they're not weatherproof, I can tell you that much.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: So they'd have to redesign that thing for the weather,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: you know, for the sidelines. Yeah, yeah, um maybe you know.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I'm not sure if Apple's doing it though, for the
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: hardware part of it. I think it's no, no no, no, yeah, yeah.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: They you know, they're making their money on Apple TV
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: and the other stuff. I don't think they care about
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: who's wearing their headphone Apples, beat by Drey, Oh that's them.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: They bought them. They bought Beats for a billion dollars
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: a few years. Yeah, that's billions did Yeah. And I
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: was going to suggest mean that to be like, if
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: it's not bows, what's what's the market out there? Matt?
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: Is that is it? Is it beats versus bows? Is
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: that what people are doing wearing over the year, And
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: that would make right right. The kids own the beats, yeah, bos.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: They love our friends at Bows. Yeah, I love love.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I've always had bows. Love products is a good product,
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: right Yea? And they're local, aren't they? Okay, So I'll
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: ask another question here, Um, what is the consensus of
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: you experts on Thursday night? Uh? Is it? And I
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: do not try to be a joker? Is it? Um?
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: Trade out? Is that the consensus? Uh? I? I was
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: more I told friend this earlier in the show. I
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: was more convinced last week that they were going to
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: trade out of the first round than I am this
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: week by a little bit, because of what mac Row
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: said the other day when we talk to him like
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: you gotta go get one. No, no, not just that,
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: but just when asked about trading and how the Patriots
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: always are looking for value, he kind of laughed it
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: off and said, that's kind of the narrative about us
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: every year, it seems, and we always want our players
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: to be valuable. This year, we want our twenty first
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: pick to be as valuable as our fifty fourth, and
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: those happened to be the first two picks that they have.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: So he's talking, at least was at that point like
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: a guy who was expecting to make a pick. So yeah,
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: but I, and we've talked about this before, I'm pretty
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: sure that they don't go into the draft saying we're
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: gonna trade down. They let they find out what's happening
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: ahead of them, right, and you know, the chances of
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: them trading up as trading down as staying put are
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: the same to me going into the draft, because it
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: really depends on what the teams ahead of them do. Well,
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: if they if they see a guy that they love,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: like three spots ahead, you know, and he's drop, they
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: will move up. They've done that. If if if the
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: guys that are left with them at twenty one are
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: all in a big group, they're gonna trade down because
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: they know they can get somebody from that group later
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: on and get more draft assets. And obviously if the
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: guy that they love is at twenty one, they'll pick them.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: I they don't go into the draft saying, you know,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: we're probably gonna do that. I agree that, But let me,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: aren't there a couple of standards here that we can accept?
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Number one? Would you wouldn't you guess that the Patriots
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: draft board is relatively small? Don't you think that there's
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: only a finite amount of people, and it's not a
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: big amount of people that make their draft board. So
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: if we could assume that number one, okay, for the
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: first round you mean, but but I'd say their entire
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: draft no, but but but we have to define what
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: that means. So there's like three hundred and some odd
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: people eligible to be drafted. Are you saying that, like
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: the Patriots draft board is like a hundred people. I'd
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: say it's far less than even less than that. I
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: would say it's thirty to four. And why is that?
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: Because I think they have very uh rigid standards. Sure,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: that's a great way to put it. Yeah, I think
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: that they're what they think is draft eligible. I think
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: is a very hard criteria. To me. It's got to
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: be bigger than thirty or forty. I mean, come on, okay,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to sit here in professional Um.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: I mean, your second pick is fifty two, right, all right?
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: You know your your last pick is two hundred and
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: some odds. So they're throwing darts at those guys. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: but they kind of know you know that that that
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: you know they're draftable. Okay, But so let's get away
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: from the number of what that board is, would you
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: agree it's small or probably smaller than smaller than most.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: So if we assume that for a second, and that
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: this isn't a great draft in the first round, which
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: is what the experts are saying, that the real value
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: is in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, I would
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: just say that there's aren't a ton of Patriots who
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: are first round draft eligible guys, and so that the
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: idea of well, let's trade out. I don't know. I
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: think everybody wants to trade out to get back and
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: to get more picks. And you just wonder is are
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: they going to be sitting there at twenty one going
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: we don't really like anybody, but we gotta make a pick, right,
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: because you need to to tang go correct? Yeah, correct,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: you know? So, yeah, I want to go back though
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: to you know, this whole notion that the Patriots draft
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: board is smaller than other teams. Why do you think
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: that is? I mean, they don't have Tom Brady anymore.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Now mightn't be so selective, right, but but they place
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: a tremendous premium on intelligence leadership there, you know, every year, Yeah,
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: every year it's captains of their class captains in high school,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: captains in college, and those kinds of things. They're not
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: taking the workout warrior type player or the combined person
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: who wows them or things like that. And why is
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: it that they've struggled so dramatically at the wide receiver
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: position over a very large sample size. Is because that playbook,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: as the quarterback who has drafted last year is admitted,
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: is one of the hardest playbooks to learn. So if
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: that's going on and you're having difficulty integrating people into that,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: I would think just by nature, that means that you're
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: looking at a smaller group of people. Say, there's another
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: narrative that I don't necessarily agree with. I don't think
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: that right now their playbook is any more sophisticated than
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: the other team's playbooks. Okay, you've got you had a
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: first round a first year quarterback last year. You know
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: you can't have the playbook that Tom Brady built up
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: over twenty years. It's just not gonna work. I don't believe.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: And if you listen to other teams all last year,
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: they said that the Patriots were easy to defend. Does
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: that sound like a sophisticated playbook? To you. No, No,
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: they were running a pretty much vanilla offense last year,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: and I think they have to continue to do that
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: until at least Mac Jones, you know, fully gets it.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: So I'm not buying that, Okay, but buying that. But
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: I'm not making up the mac Jones comments that he
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: said this is one of the largest like he's just
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: not saying that, is he It helps him to say
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: that because then if he masters that, that makes him
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: that much more intelligent. Okay, I mean, why our other
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: we've never heard that before. The Patriots are easy to defend.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: We never heard that's never right, but it makes sense.
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: It makes sense you have a rookie quarterback. Pad. I'm
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: not saying it's a bad thing. You're just saying it's
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: a fact, right, And I think they did dumb it
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: down for him last year, you know, no question about it.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: But I still think that that Mac Jones. The type
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: of quarterback that Mac Jones is, I think is built
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: for that Patriot system. He's not going to play for
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: a lot of other different teams. He was attractive to
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: this team because of the eligant factor, because he has
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: shown the ability to absorb a lot, no doubt yeah,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: And I think that that is part and parcel. That's
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: the kind of player in general terms that they like. Well,
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: I don't know how many of them are. And Bill
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: has said that he wants guys he likes to coach. Yeah,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: meaning guys who want to be coached, Guys who you know,
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: like it's important to it exactly took the words out
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: of my mouth. Um, you know, so yeah, I'll agree
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: with that, no doubt about it. You know. I think
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: nowadays though, that these guys are so schooled up for
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: the draft. I think there's a lot more of those
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: guys than used to be. They realize that, like, if
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna make it in the NFL, I better, you know,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: keep my nose clean. And there's always exceptions, of course,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: there's THOA's guys makes stupid mistakes or once they get
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: here to do dumb things once they get the money.
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: But I think there's there's a lot of guys available.
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: What I'd like to know, though, is how if Fred's
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: right about they go into a draft wanting to make
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: a pick, and then whatever happens before them determines. I
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: want to know how quickly into the first round that
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: point comes and I'm sure it changes from you. I
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: think within five picks of theirs, they kind of have
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: an idea of what they want to do. Or there's
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: some years where like after the first five picks they're like,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: all right, yeah, we're done. I'll take that a step further.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: Sorry if I was interrupted you there. I think they
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: knew when Lance went at three last year that Jones
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: was going to be available to him. I think I
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: think they looked at it and said, you know what,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: let's just say stay here. You don't know who's gonna
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: move up, and clearly who moved up. The Bears moved up, right,
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: Bears moved up, and so I don't know who's coming
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: up from behind. But they could sit there and take
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: a look at four through fourteen and pretty much I
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: think they believe we could tell you what's going on here,
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: and this guy's going to be available. Yeah, I mean
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: we're gonna have at least him or who's the kid
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: who went to West Chicago, what's his name. I think
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: they knew after three that they were gonn have a
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: choice between one of those two. Well, I think I don't.
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: I think and I've heard that if there were a
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: couple of the wide receivers that they loved, Waddle was
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: one of them available, they would have taken a wide
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: receiver instead of a quarterback, and they would have waited
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: to round two. If Mac was there, great, and if not,
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: they'd take the kids to Stanford, that went to Stanford,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: that went to Houston, you know. So it wasn't a
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: given that they were going to take a quarterback in
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: the first round. But it just that's the way the
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: board unfolded to them. And the two guys they really
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: liked a wide receiver weren't there. Jones was there. It
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: was like, okay, let's just get them now, you know um.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: And I think that's how they approach it. They know
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: who they like, they've got their board, and then they
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: wait to see how it unfolds. And by the way,
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: I've also heard stories, I don't know if last year,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: the year before, where they've been wanting to make trades
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: and burning up the phones and they just couldn't get
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: a partner, you know, to move up, to move up,
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: you know. So it's every but he has this narrative like, oh,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: the Patriots always look for value and they moved down.
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: It's it's not true. They moved. It just seems like
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: they do it more often than I think. That's where
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: the narrative comes from. Yeah, so our fancying our fans,
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: and you guys are dealing with them here as you
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: do this show all the time. Do they think cornerback
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: is the position that um not just similar to a
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: quarterback last year, that there's such a glaring need for
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: cornerback that that's who they look at in the first round.
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: I think defender in general is what people want. Yeah,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I think most people want a cornerback. But yeah, I'd
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: certainly want a cornerback. And I thought Reese had a
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: really interesting piece yesterday where he wrote that there might
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: not be enough first round draft draftable cornerbacks that the
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: guys who are first round eligible, Yeah, they're gone. We
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: were looking at that, you know, after the first few
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: you know the rankings or you know the write ups
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: of these guys. None of them are true shut down corners.
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: You know, so your value you there for first round
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: Quarnerman and we were talking about earlier. When you draft
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: those key positions quarterback, cornerback, outside edge rusher, and wide
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: receiver in the first round, it gets expensive to keep
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: them correct you know, so unless you really get at
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: Durrell Reevs In the first round, who Okay, this guy
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: can win your football games. It's tough to you have
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: to really hit on a first round pick in those
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: positions because they get so expensive. And so in theory,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: does it make more sense to take that guy at
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: defensive back? Who where you know the value is a
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: defensive back as opposed to an interior offensive lineman because
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: it's an interior offensive lineman and they're going to get expensive. Mean,
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: what a tuney And that was that was a mistake.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: But he got the money he did. But that Kansas
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: to me, that was Kansas City gave him money. I know,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: but that was a managerial mistake I thought on the
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: Patriots part to give him a franchise tag. He's overpaid,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: he's overpaid. Well, but that position is now overpaid. Yeah,
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: and so the value is would you rather overpay at
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: one of the positions that you just talked about? You know,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: because I was having a conversation with somebody today, I said, well,
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: then what about interior offensive lineman? Said I think you'd
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: rather be on the hook at that five year mark
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: for a position like corner quarter, edge rusher then interior
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: offensive lineman. Because those salaries are getting out of way.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: They are, but those other salaries are crazy too, and
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: they better be good, I mean, because you know, but
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: like you said, the CAP's going way up, way up,
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: you know. Um, so it's you know, it's getting a
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: little bit you know, moot. But who was the guy that,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: um that just gets the cornerback? He just became the
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: highest paid Yeah, Denzil a Ward. He became the highest
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: paid cornerback ever. Million contracts And all I've been reading,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: and I don't know if I'm reading the wrong stuff,
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: is people are people are going wow, this guy gave
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: up a lot of leverage. He signed a huge deal
