- 0:00Speaker 1: I have an email of interest here? Okay? Is it
- 0:03Speaker 1: in fact of It is in fact an email of
- 0:06Speaker 1: interest of some import and it's time sensitive.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Wow, okay, email of interest of some court time in
- 0:15Speaker 2: dext do it now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm so sorry I didn't get to this sooner. I
- 0:19Speaker 1: received this email on Tuesday and now it's Thursday. Hey
- 0:25Speaker 1: radio from Hell, longtime listener here like day one, Long Wow,
- 0:31Speaker 1: February nineteen ninety two, Long Wow, back when the station
- 0:35Speaker 1: was still figuring itself out. I won the cure album
- 0:39Speaker 1: Wish and I had to drive down to that tiny
- 0:42Speaker 1: Provo station by the old asbestos plants to pick it up, which,
- 0:46Speaker 1: in hindsight feels very on brand for the early nineties.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I've basically grown up with you, Kerrie Jackson, Bill Alred
- 0:55Speaker 1: and Gino Barbari and have been in my background noise
- 0:58Speaker 1: or you have been my background noise through day decades
- 1:00Speaker 1: of life, and somehow you're still standing, which is impressive.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So now it's my turn to shamelessly ask for help.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm a second grade teacher in Ogden, and I'm currently
- 1:14Speaker 1: in the America's Favorite Teacher contest, up against seventy five
- 1:18Speaker 1: thousand plus teachers across the country. They've split us into
- 1:22Speaker 1: one hundred plus groups, and I've somehow clawed my way
- 1:27Speaker 1: to first place so far thanks to my local Ogden
- 1:31Speaker 1: people going all in. And when I say all in,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I mean I've been out there handing out flyers to
- 1:38Speaker 1: thirty three local businesses, including fire stations, police stations, and
- 1:42Speaker 1: the library, like I'm running for mayor of second grade.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Here's the catch, because of course there's always one. Every
- 1:50Speaker 1: round resets to zero, so it's kind of like groundhog Day,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but with more anxiety. Upcoming rounds the top ten, second
- 2:00Speaker 1: which is today through the ninth, Top five, the ninth
- 2:03Speaker 1: through the sixteenth, and there are group finals sixteenth through
- 2:06Speaker 1: the twenty third, quarterfinals twenty seventh of April, seventh of May,
- 2:11Speaker 1: semifinals May eight to fourteen, Finals May fifteen to twenty one.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'm trying to put Ogden, Utah and my low income school,
- 2:21Speaker 1: Ogden Preparatory Academy, on the map and actually take this
- 2:26Speaker 1: thing all the way. If I win, Bill Nye comes
- 2:31Speaker 1: to my school all which for my students would just
- 2:34Speaker 1: be completely life changing. Also for me, let's be honest.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, And there's also twenty five thousand dollars on
- 2:41Speaker 1: a Hawaii trip. But here's the real deal. I'd use
- 2:45Speaker 1: that money to help my students in school and community,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, payoff lunch balances, library fines, support families, cover
- 2:52Speaker 1: some lingering medical bills from foot surgery, and chip away
- 2:55Speaker 1: at my student loans from earning my master's degree. And
- 2:59Speaker 1: just be clear, I've already been to Hawaii because my
- 3:03Speaker 1: brother lives there and I go there plenty of times.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm doing this for Bill Nye, my second grader's told
- 3:09Speaker 1: me to get with the times, so I started a
- 3:12Speaker 1: YouTube channel documenting everything, parents, coworkers, classroom clips with more
- 3:17Speaker 1: content on the way. Let's well, the YouTube is, it's
- 3:25Speaker 1: a bunch of numbers than so we will have to
- 3:29Speaker 1: put a link up now the voting link is, and
- 3:33Speaker 1: we'll put both of these. I think we can post
- 3:35Speaker 1: both of these right. America's Fave f av America's faveteacher
- 3:41Speaker 1: dot org. And her name is Julie Avelino a v
- 3:48Speaker 1: E l l I n O a v E l
- 3:54Speaker 1: l I n O. She's on Facebook Jules of Alino
- 3:59Speaker 1: j O U l E s Jules Avadino red cowboy
- 4:02Speaker 1: hat because Lee high roots never die. I know you
- 4:05Speaker 1: guys get a million of these kinds of things, but
- 4:08Speaker 1: if there's any chance of a shout out, a mansion,
- 4:10Speaker 1: or even a sarcastic eye roll in my direction, I'll
- 4:13Speaker 1: take it. Thanks for thirty years of keeping Utah weird,
- 4:16Speaker 1: informed and mildly inappropriate. Julie aka Jules, a nickname given
- 4:23Speaker 1: twenty years ago because I have so much energy, still listening,
- 4:27Speaker 1: still laughing, now slightly campaigning. Ps. I've attached the campaign
- 4:31Speaker 1: flyers I've been using to claw my way forward in
- 4:34Speaker 1: the finals. Equal parts teacher energy, caffeine, and determination, if
- 4:38Speaker 1: nothing else. You'll see I'm fully committed and possibly a
- 4:41Speaker 1: little unhinged at this point. So let's can we get
- 4:49Speaker 1: this on our Facebook pretty quick?
- 4:51Speaker 2: I sent the place so, yeah, Facebook, probably are all
- 4:55Speaker 2: of our socials, right, Hudson, We can do.
- 4:58Speaker 1: That, yeah, so and again and her just the voting
- 5:01Speaker 1: link is the easiest thing for me to read at
- 5:03Speaker 1: this point. America's faveteacher dot org and it's twenty twenty six,
- 5:09Speaker 1: Julie Avellino. But we'll post all of that stuff. Go listen,
- 5:12Speaker 1: look at our Facebook and our and and help her out. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Find if Bill N came to your school. That'd be
- 5:18Speaker 1: really cool. Bill n came here be on the show,
- 5:22Speaker 1: maybe he could come here and be on the show.
- 5:24Speaker 1: If if, if we can help her and push her
- 5:27Speaker 1: through to the top. I think it's remarkable that she's
- 5:30Speaker 1: on her own. Maybe she's she's the top of the
- 5:35Speaker 1: heap in the first round. So great, so excellent. And uh,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I wonder do you still have your copy of that
- 5:43Speaker 1: Cure album that you went home? That'd be nice to know.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And also we need to know did you buy any
- 5:52Speaker 1: chance to get me liomia mesothelioma by coming down to
- 5:56Speaker 1: the studio where the ast lord knows I did the
- 5:59Speaker 1: asbestos play. That's where? Isn't that what it is? Mesama?
- 6:04Speaker 1: All right? So Julie Avelino, good luck and we'll pay
- 6:08Speaker 1: posts and we love you, know and I'm an Ogden
- 6:11Speaker 1: boy through and through, so we'll do our best for
- 6:14Speaker 1: you and keep at it and let us know how
- 6:16Speaker 1: it goes.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, let's get that on our social media. So I
- 6:19Speaker 2: guess you can forward that to Katie and I will
- 6:21Speaker 2: do it right now and she will get that on there.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's pretty cool. Well, that was certainly an email of
- 6:28Speaker 2: intro
