- 0:02Happy Sunday morning, everybody. It is a beautiful day here in
- 0:09St. Louis, MO All right, I am headed
- 0:15up to Quincy, IL Quincy Raceway racing starts at 4:30 this
- 0:20evening. You got Hannibal, MO on this
- 0:23side of the Mississippi River, and then you got Quincy, IL on
- 0:26this side of the Mississippi River.
- 0:28That area up there is awesome. That's where Mark Twain wrote
- 0:33all his novels. You know, remember Huckleberry
- 0:36Finn? All the big boys.
- 0:41OK, so I'll see you all. Quincy Raceways tonight in
- 0:44Quincy, IL Racing starts at 4:30 because it's Sunday.
- 0:48OK, Something big happened last night and I want to talk about
- 0:53it. The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars
- 0:57is the largest dirt sanctioning body as far as excitement and
- 1:02packing the grandstands. These these World of Outlaw
- 1:06Sprint cars got wings on them and they are fast man, they fly.
- 1:11So they went there sharing the Speedway last night.
- 1:15Now this is a track that Dave Blaney.
- 1:18Dave Blaney owns it and his son is Ryan Blaney, the NASCAR
- 1:22driver. Well, Uncle, Uncle Dale Blaney
- 1:27won the race last night over all the World of Outlaw guys.
- 1:32Dale Blaney, 61 years old, 61 years young.
- 1:38Dale Blaney outrun everybody outrun, you know, Han Sheld
- 1:46outrun David Gravel, you name it.
- 1:51He drove so beautifully. Dale Blaney drove so
- 1:53beautifully. I'll watch.
- 1:54You could see his arms in there, you know, as he was going around
- 1:58racetrack track was super slippery.
- 2:01He drove that thing so beautifully and pulled away from
- 2:04him every every caution. Like there was 2 cautions like
- 2:07with 10 to go. So they were testing.
- 2:10Oh, Dale, Uncle Dale Blaney, tall.
- 2:13Man, I don't know who was that tall in the Blaney family.
- 2:18I don't think it was the mom or the grandma.
- 2:20I think it was, maybe, I don't know who it was, but Uncle Dale,
- 2:24super tall. Twice as tall as Ryan and twice
- 2:28as tall as the great Dave Blaney.
- 2:31Now, about four or five years ago, Dave Blaney won a World of
- 2:37Outlaw race at that racetrack. But here's the reason we're
- 2:41talking about it and why this is such a big deal. 61 years young
- 2:46in the outrun everybody. So I want to talk about why do
- 2:53people race at an age? How can you stay competitive at
- 2:59that age? It's all over America right now.
- 3:02Dale Blaney. Dale Blaney becomes the oldest
- 3:06winner in the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars at 61.
- 3:10Kenny Schrader was there with his Modified.
- 3:14Kenny Schrader is 70 years old now.
- 3:17I don't know where Kenny finished, but some other man
- 3:20wanna saw a picture of him. Track was super slippery.
- 3:24Locals might have had an advantage.
- 3:29I think Dave and Dale had an advantage because they owned the
- 3:31racetrack. They know that track like the
- 3:33back of their hand. Still, it begs.
- 3:38It begs me answering your question, Kenny Wallace, you're
- 3:4262 years old. Why do you still race that older
- 3:46car? Well, it's pretty simple.
- 3:50I'm still very competitive and it's like a workout.
- 3:54It really does give me something to do.
- 3:57It really is that simple. I do want to say the reason I
- 4:02run the dirt car is not these things.
- 4:06I don't run the dirt car because my cup career didn't go the way
- 4:09I wanted it to. If you, if you look at my cup
- 4:14career, by all accounts, it was a dream come true for a kid out
- 4:22of Arnold, MO is where I'm at right now.
- 4:25So I grew up as a, you know, middle class kid, ride my
- 4:29bicycle, shoot BB guns, run the creeks.
- 4:33And are you kidding me? I made it to the NASCAR Cup
- 4:36series. I ran 905 races between the big
- 4:41three, 547 Xfinity races. I still have the most starts,
- 4:48340 something Cup races, 11 truck races.
- 4:51I'm not going to dumb it down. I'm not going to go.
- 4:53Oh, well, you know, I mean, no, I justified.
- 4:57I look at it like this. I came out of friggin Arnold, MO
- 5:02just a redneck kid. Like I said, I truly did shoot
- 5:06BB guns, run the Creek, build tree houses.
- 5:11So I do not run my dirt car because I didn't win a cup race.
- 5:17I had three second place finishes in the Cup series.
- 5:21Talladega, Rockingham, Loudon, I remember them had nine Xfinity
- 5:27wins. So I do not run the dirt car
- 5:31because I'm chasing something. I think I run the dirt car.
- 5:36I mean, sometimes I ask myself, why am I doing this?
- 5:40It really is fun. I enjoy racing dirt.
- 5:43I enjoy I I enjoy the process of going up to that shop.
- 5:47I'm loaded up right now. You see that black, you see that
- 5:50black truck and trailer right there.
- 5:52I'm loaded up. I'm ready to go.
- 5:54I'm ready to go. I did that last night.
- 5:57Loaded my carp, worked hard on it.
- 6:03The reason I run that old dirt car is because it's like playing
- 6:07a game. It's no different than people
- 6:10putting a puzzle together. It's fun.
- 6:13I love competition, you know? It's it's it's why does anybody
- 6:18do what they do? Why do you do what you do?
- 6:21Why don't you race? Oh, I don't have the money.
- 6:24Oh come on, I doubt that there's a division for everybody.
- 6:28I know people that are on 4 cylinders and sportsman cars and
- 6:32they are way cheaper than getting a boat and going down to
- 6:36Lake Ozark. Why do why do guys fish?
- 6:40Why do they spend all that money on those fishing reels in the,
- 6:44you know, $40,000 boats? You know, my my motor is faster
- 6:50than your boat because I can get to Matt fish and hold quicker
- 6:53than you for these tournaments. The reason I race is because I
- 6:59love him. Now is it it?
- 7:02It is odd that I'm I'm a Wallace, but I am different.
- 7:06You know, brother Mike always says Kenny Wallace.
- 7:09My brother Kenny Herman's always doing his own thing.
- 7:13And I am a Wallace and I look like a Wallace.
- 7:16But why am I different than that?
- 7:17Well, Rusty, Rusty, just he's not wired like me.
- 7:21He's, we look like each other, but he's totally different than
- 7:25me, Mike, totally different than me.
- 7:31I'm totally different than the whole family.
- 7:33But we do have some, we do have some characteristics.
- 7:37So I just race because I love it.
- 7:42I will say this. And at the very end of this next
- 7:44year, 2026, I will not be racing every week.
- 7:50We're round, we're rounding it out.
- 7:51Everybody, This, this would be the last year that I race every
- 7:55single week. For me to stay competitive, I
- 7:59got to race a little less. All right, listen, I'll see you
- 8:04at Quincy Raceways tonight.
