- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ, August 6 in the year of our Lord 2026.
- 0:20Of today's feast, Dom Gaspar Lefebvre writes the following. The feast of the transfiguration of Jesus had long been solemnized on August 6 in different churches of the East and West. To commemorate the victory which arrested near Belgrade in 1457, the invading tide of Islam, and which was announced at Rome on August 6, Calixtus the third extended the feast to the whole church.
- 0:54It is the feast of the churches under the title of Saint Savior. That is why Pius X raised it to the rank of double of the second class. It is the second title of the Church of Saint John of the Lateran, formerly called Basilica Of Saint Savior. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
- 1:26The introit. Thy lightnings enlightened the whole world. The earth shook and trembled. How lovely are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts. My soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord.
- 1:46Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Thy lightnings enlightened the whole world. The earth shook and trembled. The Collect, let us pray.
- 2:16O God, who in the glorious transfiguration of thy only begotten son did confirm the mysteries of the faith by the witness of the fathers and in the voice which came down from the shining cloud didst wondrously foreshadow the perfect adoption of sons. Vouch safe in thy loving kindness to make us co heirs with this king of glory and to grant that we may be made partakers of that same glory through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the second letter of Saint Peter the Apostle. Beloved, we were not crediting fables of man's invention when we preached to you about the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and about his coming.
- 3:26We had been eyewitnesses of his exaltation. Such honor, such glory was bestowed on him by God the father that a voice came to him out of the splendor which dazzles human eyes. This, it said, is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. To him then, listen. We, his companions on the Holy Mountain, heard that voice coming from heaven and now the word of the prophets gives us more confidence than ever.
- 4:08It is with good reason that you are paying so much attention to that word. It will go on shining like a lamp in some darkened room until the dawn breaks and the day star rises in your hearts. The gradual, thou art beautiful above the sons of men. Grace is poured abroad in thy lips. My heart hath uttered a good word.
- 4:39I speak my works to the king. Alleluia. Alleluia. He is the brightness of eternal light, the unspotted mirror in the image of his goodness. Alleluia.
- 5:00A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John with him and led them up onto a high mountain where they were alone. And he was transfigured in their presence, his face shining like the sun and his garments becoming white as snow. And all at once they had sight of Moses and Elijah conversing with him. Then Peter said aloud to Jesus, Lord, it is well that we should be here.
- 5:41If it pleases thee, let us make three tabernacles in this place, one for thee, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Even before he had finished speaking, a shining cloud overshadowed them. And now there was a voice which said to them out of the cloud, This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. To him then, listen. The disciples when they heard it fell on their faces overcome with fear.
- 6:25But Jesus came near and roused them with his touch. Rise, he said. Do not be afraid. And they lifted up their eyes and saw no man there but Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus warned them, do not tell anybody of what you have seen until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
- 6:55The Offertory. Glory and wealth are in his house, and his justice remaineth forever and ever. The secret. Hallow, O Lord, we beseech thee, the offerings we offer thee on the glorious transfiguration of thine only begotten son, and by the splendors of that same transfiguration cleanse us from the stains of our sins. Through the same Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 7:42Amen. The Preface of the Nativity. Just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God. For through the mystery of the word made flesh, the new light of thy glory hath shone upon the eyes of our mind. So that while we acknowledge God in visible form, we may, through him, be drawn to the love of things invisible.
- 8:24And therefore, with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of thy glory evermore saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
- 9:05This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him. The post communion. Let us pray. Grant we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we may grasp with purified minds the most holy mystery of the transfiguration of thy son, which we keep with solemn right through the same Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 9:51Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Thanks be to God.
