- 2:33What do we have? Give it to me.
- 2:35Give it to me. It is the Nashville Brown Derby.
- 2:414 rows of urban grapefruit juice and Nashville hot honey.
- 2:46Oh, I. Don't know.
- 2:47Hold up. I don't know.
- 2:50That sounds great. Don't.
- 2:52Think like a whiskey. Sour.
- 2:54Yeah, the grapefruit juice, a little too sour for me.
- 2:58That's like on the far end of the sour spectrum.
- 3:01OK. That's the tangiest of the Tang.
- 3:03Shout out to the coach Tang. Well, we do not give him shout
- 3:07outs on this podcast anymore. We no longer subscribe to him
- 3:11and his Baylor ways. Anyway, check out Auntie Mays.
- 3:15They're doing all sorts of crazy stuff during the during the
- 3:18school year, during the academic year, during football season and
- 3:21basketball season. They're riding with us through
- 3:24another academic and in sports here here.
- 3:27So we're super stoked to have our friend Jeff and Auntie Maze
- 3:30back on board. But give them a look.
- 3:33Auntie maze.com, 616 N 12th St. in Aggieville.
- 3:37Be sure to tell them cocaine Willy sent anyway.
- 3:40Wide receiver moving on to wide receiver.
- 3:43So the projected depth chart here.
- 3:45Client reinforces yesterday when we chat, when not when we
- 3:48chatted, we were not there. But when the media chatted with
- 3:51Coach Klein yesterday, wide receiver, one looking like drawn
- 3:55tips. He is the returner of this group
- 3:57of wide receivers. We got a lot of new faces in
- 4:00this room this year. Josh Manning coming in from
- 4:03Missouri, obviously we all knew of and and we're excited for the
- 4:07recruiting when that was happening of Josh Manning.
- 4:10He's in Avery's class originally out of high school.
- 4:13They did their visit together. They took all their pictures
- 4:15together. We thought it was a done deal.
- 4:17I think he committed verbally's to to K State.
- 4:20And then Eli Dorkowitz comes out of out of the blue, gives them
- 4:25it, gives them an offer he can't refuse.
- 4:26And, and he chose to go to Missouri for a couple of years,
- 4:30but is, is going to choose to finish out his career at K
- 4:32State. And I believe he actually gets a
- 4:35fifth year. So if he if he chooses to return
- 4:37next year, I believe he can based on him being a senior and
- 4:41him having 5 for five eligibility now I'm so I do
- 4:44think he can return next year. Wide receivers 3 and 4 or this
- 4:50could be an or situation on the depth chart.
- 4:52We've heard a lot about Brandon White and we've heard a lot
- 4:54about Isaiah Williams. Brandon White comes in from
- 4:57Hawaii. He was, what, wide receiver 3 or
- 5:004 at Hawaii, if I'm not mistaken.
- 5:02But that's an offense that really spread the ball around
- 5:05and didn't necessarily have a wide receiver one per SE.
- 5:09And then Isaiah Williams comes in from Texas A&M, didn't have a
- 5:13whole lot on the field stats wise to be able to write home
- 5:17about, but is a guy that clearly Colin Klein trusts and and
- 5:21trusted enough to bring over with him from Texas A&M.
- 5:25So between these guys, I just thinking about these receivers
- 5:30in general, there's a lot of size in this room.
- 5:34I feel like this this wide receiver room is going to have
- 5:36the ability to win some 5050 balls and move the chains and
- 5:40and attack some smaller corners. Maybe the way that we weren't
- 5:43able to do when Jace Brown seemed to be one of the biggest
- 5:47guys in the wide receiver room at times.
- 5:50I guess was JB Bradley probably would have been the biggest guy
- 5:53last year, but you know, Jace was the go to guy.
- 5:57You're losing your go to guy. That's that's been a big concern
- 6:00for me with this wide receiver room is is drawn.
- 6:02Tibbs is really the biggest through line between previous
- 6:05seasons in this season and we really only have one year of
- 6:08experience between Avery and Tibbs.
- 6:10But when you look at when you look at this wide receiver room,
- 6:14what do you think is the biggest strength of this wide receiver
- 6:18room as you look at it today? Biggest strength, you know, I
- 6:24like you said, I I think the room actually got smaller.
- 6:29I don't I don't think that we got bigger.
- 6:30I think JB Bradley was an absolute unit in terms of like
- 6:34height. I don't he was obviously very
- 6:37thin. Tibbs Tibbs is a good size
- 6:42receiver, but when you go down that list until you get to
- 6:46Brandon White, the explosion just doesn't seem like that's
- 6:53it. I, I, I'm trying to think I
- 6:55think we have a lot of good possessions and I think the the
- 6:59guys that we have are going to be a lot of the system wide
- 7:05receivers. So I think they can find their
- 7:08way to get open and, and really what I think the biggest
- 7:13strength could be is the continuity with the quarterback.
- 7:16I think Josh Manning and Avery Johnson have a relationship, a
- 7:20rapport that might not necessarily come from just
- 7:23playing with each other, but a relationship off the field
- 7:27usually leads to chemistry on the field.
- 7:32Tibbs already has proven himself as a bona fide #2 can he take
- 7:37that step to #1 status? And I think a guy like of his
- 7:41ilk, possession receiver gets in and out of his brakes really
- 7:45well, catches the ball in and finds space.
- 7:49And then you get to like Brandon White, who I think is the most,
- 7:54who's obviously the the outlier of all the receivers on the
- 7:59depth chart. He's tiny.
- 8:01He, I mean, I shouldn't say tiny.
- 8:03I he is smaller. He's probably listed at 57,
- 8:06which probably means he's 5655, but he's insanely fast, which
- 8:15when's the last time we had a guy like that, Brandon Banks,
- 8:18you know, maybe somebody like that that I can think of.
- 8:21I think he might be a little more filled out than Brandon
- 8:24Banks was, but if he could provide that guy in the slot
- 8:29that can get in and out of breaks similar to what Phillip
- 8:33Brooks did, but have more explosion off of the ball when
- 8:37he gets it and play making ability.
- 8:39I think he's an improvement of what we had last year in the
- 8:43slot outside of Jace. Isaiah Williams, Like you said,
- 8:47it's going to be a lot of prove it, but pedigree, speed, he's
- 8:54got it. So you know it's going to be
- 8:57consistency with him. He is a younger player.
- 8:59He's a red shirt freshman, A sophomore, red shirt sophomore,
- 9:04one of those he's a younger fella.
- 9:07So it's it's one of those things where, you know, if he can get
- 9:10into the rotation and make some things, I think a guy that we
- 9:14don't have a lot of guys like him is a Sally.
- 9:21You know, if we could get Derek Sally up to speed, we don't have
- 9:27those guys on the roster and we haven't had a guy like that on
- 9:31the roster in a long ass time. So I'm trying to think of when
- 9:39we had a receiver that looks like him on the roster.
- 9:44That was going to be my next question is what do you think of
- 9:47that kind of second tier group below the guys that I mentioned?
- 9:50When you think about Derek, Sally, Adonis, Moise, like he
- 9:54got a shout out yesterday from from Coach Klein.
- 9:57You know, Caprice Keith is a guy that's been around the program,
- 10:01at least high school recruiting wise.
- 10:03We brought him in. You know, Larry Porter the 4th
- 10:07is another guy that like stands out to me a lot 'cause he had
- 10:11that. He had that circus catch in in
- 10:13spring ball that everybody was tweeting about.
- 10:16Yeah. I mean, these guys are they are
- 10:21the necessarily the future, but like they they bring
- 10:24characteristics and a skill set that we might not have those top
- 10:29guys, but they just they're not seasoned enough and getting
- 10:35those guys reps in game can provide a lot of things.
- 10:38Adonis, funny enough, actually got a lot of reps with the first
- 10:45as a starter and running with the offense last year.
- 10:50I think he might have got hurt as well.
- 10:52I'm not entirely sure, but went seeing him, he's kind of reminds
- 10:59me of what like a drawn Tibbs, but obviously a little bit
- 11:02smaller. He's not as fast, he doesn't
- 11:05seem as fast, but he seems very efficient in terms of running
- 11:09the routes, getting into space, opening, catching the ball.
- 11:13That's kind of like you've got to have those guys, especially
- 11:17if if we're running the RPO style that I think we are.
- 11:20It's going to be a lot of in breaking short, breaking routes,
- 11:23get to a spot, find it and it's the ball is coming at you and
- 11:26you got to catch it. So I I'm really, I'm really
- 11:31Larry Porter is Larry Porter and Derek Sally are going to be my
- 11:35guys that I think could be real difference makers if they can
- 11:40find a way onto the field. I think I'm I'm all in.
- 11:44I'm putting all my chips on the Derek Sally coming from JUCO.
- 11:49Coming from JUCO, He's one of those guys that 6. 3234.
- 11:53He's a big fella, big fella can jump, go get it.
- 11:57Wears a very hot number. He's huge.
- 12:01So like, these are the guys that I'm looking for and those are
- 12:05the ones that pop off the screen.
- 12:07They pop off the screen because they do like they do things that
- 12:11you just. He's built OK Now this.
- 12:14Don't get me wrong, he's not him, but he's built like
- 12:19Jeremiah Smith. OK.
- 12:23And we don't have that guy on the roster, but if we if we
- 12:28have, we have Derek Sal, if he can provide, if he can get up to
- 12:32speed, he has the physical tools of somebody like a Jeremiah
- 12:35Smith, in my opinion. So I, I'm, I'm all in on him.
- 12:41Does he, he's a JUCO guy. So does no offense to him if he
- 12:45ever sees this, which I doubt 100% he will never see this, but
- 12:49does he have his head on straight?
- 12:51Those are the kind of things that hold players with absolute
- 12:56genetic freak skills back. He might just never have it up
- 13:02there. He might not have the marbles to
- 13:04get it done. But if he does and he
- 13:06straightens up, he might, he might be straight as an arrow
- 13:10for all I know. But the reason why he's hasn't
- 13:12gotten on the field or might not get on the field this year is
- 13:15because of those little things like that.
- 13:17You've got to buy into the program.
- 13:19You got to do those things. And if he does and he has the
- 13:21physical capabilities, that's where all my chips are at.
- 13:24I'm betting on that. I want that to happen because if
- 13:27he does takes this room to another level.
- 13:33It does, Derek, Sally's definitely a genetic freak.
- 13:37So when you're when you're thinking about like your when
- 13:40you're thinking about your biggest concern, what's what's
- 13:41your biggest concern on this team?
- 13:43Because for me it would probably be we've lost Jace Brown.
- 13:47He was very clearly the guy that Avery had the best connection
- 13:50with on the field. And he was also a home run
- 13:54hitter. And and we don't really have
- 13:56that guy right now that we know of yet.
- 14:00We don't know who that guy could be this next year could be
- 14:03really anybody at this point, or it could be nobody, or it could
- 14:07be a tight end. We don't know.
- 14:09And see that's where that's where I was going because your
- 14:11concern is absolutely 100% based in truth.
- 14:15We don't have a takeover over the top guy that you can kind of
- 14:21just like he'll beat him, beat somebody on a post route and
- 14:24just blow by him or just throw it up down on a 9 route just
- 14:28down the sideline and go get it. Jeron Tibbs might have that in
- 14:31him, but I like I said, I think he's more of that possession
- 14:34find, find space and not get a lot of rack.
- 14:38He might not have a lot of rack left in them, but we don't have
- 14:41that guy. So if we can get somebody and
- 14:44maybe that's how they're building this offense, we let's
- 14:48be honest, we haven't seen this other than what Colin Klein's
- 14:52done at Texas Tech because I think he's building for
- 14:54something that might be a little different that the outside
- 14:58receivers in the slot guys, they're trying to find space and
- 15:03maybe just maybe the tight end is down the seam.
- 15:08We have a Lincoln cure that can go burn over the top.
- 15:11That's, you know, that's bigger than a safety and is way faster
- 15:16than the linebacker. So maybe that's where they're
- 15:19trying to find their isolations on, like in a cover one where
- 15:22the safety is looking for anybody over the top.
- 15:25But if it's a tight end he might be Garrett Oakley might be able
- 15:28to catch him over the top if he actually catches the ball.
- 15:34All right, all right. So when you look at the top five
- 15:38guys, who do you think is the first, second and third most
- 15:43reliable receivers heading into the season?
- 15:47Oh, for sure. Tibbs is number one.
- 15:49OK, Yeah, Tibbs is number 1, I think.
- 15:51I think he's proven that he, he might have started out a little
- 15:54bit ANC at the beginning of the last season with a couple drops,
- 15:58but I think towards the end of the season he was about as sure
- 16:01hands as it got. I'm going to say Josh Manning is
- 16:08going to be pretty consistent. I don't think he's going to be
- 16:12absolutely anything special. No offense to Josh Manning, but
- 16:15I just think I think he's one of those guys that if he could put
- 16:21up Cave Warner numbers, I'd be happy.
- 16:25I would be absolutely ecstatic if he give me Cave Warner
- 16:29numbers. Have you Did you listen to my
- 16:30Blitz Month episode? No, I haven't actually.
- 16:33That's the comparison I made because I said I said fab Ward.
- 16:37Fab Ward, his sample size that 2022 season when he was here as
- 16:41wide receivers coach Cade Warner was the guy going into that
- 16:45season where we're like this guy throw away like he's not, he's
- 16:48not going to do squad, but but maybe, but maybe him reuniting
- 16:53with Adrian, who knows. There's some chemistry there and
- 16:56then he ends up being a 600 yard receiver like that.
- 17:00That's the kind of thing where I'm like that you bring in Fab
- 17:03Ward and Thad Ward can be this wide receiver whisperer to to a
- 17:08degree. If you have a third wide
- 17:11receiver on your team or, or even the second that's putting
- 17:14up, you know, 400 to 600 yards in the season, I'd say that's a,
- 17:18that's pretty solid for K State compared to where we've been in
- 17:21the past. So we we get so enamored with
- 17:26guys production throughout the season.
- 17:28He was a 600 and and just justifiably, that's how they
- 17:33should be graded. But for guys like Josh Manning,
- 17:37he's never going to be the guy that beats somebody over the
- 17:40top. He's not the most physically
- 17:43imposing where he's Moss and people, all that stuff.
- 17:46If he and he's an outside receiver that can run a curl
- 17:51route at for 8 yards and we need 6 and he does that twice a game
- 17:58and has another catch for 11 and he does that almost every game.
- 18:05He is the he would be the most consistent because that's the
- 18:08kind of guy that we we need the guy on the outside that is
- 18:13whether it's versus zone or whatever finds a spot, moves the
- 18:16chains twice and maybe find the end zone.
- 18:19If he could find the end zone 4 * a season, move the chains 2 *
- 18:23a game and have a gain of 15 outside of that, that is the
- 18:28most successful season. I would want for Josh Manning.
- 18:31Add those numbers up. Somebody in the comments.
- 18:33Give it to me, whatever that equals, give it to me.
- 18:37But that's what I'm expecting. And so my third guy, can I get
- 18:42consistent work for an explosive from Brandon White every game?
- 18:47That's what that's what consistency for me for, for
- 18:51Brandon White is he might not be the most consistent in terms of
- 18:55you, you know, you're going to get 5 catches, 83 yards or you
- 19:00know, 5 catches for 68 yards or something like that from Brandon
- 19:04White. But can I get, you know, 2
- 19:07catches, 3 catches and one of them's for 40?
- 19:12Yeah. I mean, if you, if you give me a
- 19:15home run play, not necessarily every game, but give it to me
- 19:19every game. Might not be have to be for a
- 19:21touchdown or anything, but just something that shifts the form,
- 19:25shifts the momentum of a game. That's consistency to me.
- 19:29For a receiver, sometimes that you have a role.
- 19:33Your role is to make plays and to make a big explosive play.
- 19:37If you give that to me every game, you're consistent as hell.
- 19:41So you're, you're saying now Brandon White's going to be the
- 19:46guy over Isaiah Williams If you, if you have to do like a top
- 19:49three, 100%? Yeah, 100%.
- 19:51Because I wonder how much the familiarity with client system
- 19:54ends up helping Isaiah in this case.
- 19:57Well, this is the this is. And for me, I think the familiar
- 20:03familiarity in his system is huge.
- 20:06But also, Brandon White's been playing.
- 20:08College football since 2021. So I think that plays a lot into
- 20:16it. I think a guy like that who can
- 20:18run every route on the field, mind you, he's limited in size.
- 20:23That's where that's why I think he's even in contention for wide
- 20:27receiver three. If he was bigger than we
- 20:30wouldn't even probably wouldn't even have him on the roster.
- 20:32But you know, he's 57. Give me a bubble screen or a
- 20:38drag route that you you break for 40.
- 20:41And that's consistency to me. And I think that's what he needs
- 20:44to be. And I think Isaiah Williams,
- 20:46obviously, I don't even think he's going to be playing in the
- 20:48slot. I think he's more he might be
- 20:50fighting Josh Manning for playing time towards the end of
- 20:52the season. If it was me if if, if I had a
- 20:56guess, and I could be totally wrong, but if I had a guess, I
- 21:00think Josh Manning is going to be fighting Isaiah Williams off
- 21:03the field and and Brandon White is going to hold down the slot,
- 21:09OK. OK, I think that's a that's a
- 21:12good enough for a bold prediction.
- 21:13So I'll just mix the mix the bold prediction.
- 21:16I love that. With that, we're going to move
- 21:18on to a quick ad read for Heartland Beef Connection.
- 21:22Folks. We are not talking about grocery
- 21:24store beef. Heartland Beef Connection
- 21:26connects Kansas and Midwest families directly with local
- 21:29ranchers. No middle men, no industrial
- 21:32processing and no mass produced beef.
- 21:34A lot of these ranchers are located in Kansas, and of course
- 21:37plenty of them are K Staters themselves.
- 21:40Same values, same work ethic, just doing it out on the land
- 21:43instead of the football field, which matters a lot to me as a
- 21:476th generation Kansan myself. Paul Meisbach, friend of the
- 21:50program, started Heartland Beef Connection to help support
- 21:54Midwest ranchers by matching them directly with families
- 21:57looking to buy a quarter, half or whole beef shares.
- 22:00You know where your beef comes from, how it was raised, and who
- 22:03raised it. Here's the part people don't
- 22:05expect. Not only does this beef taste
- 22:08better, it is actually cheaper per pound than grocery store
- 22:11beef when you buy direct. So it's better quality, you have
- 22:15more transparency, and you're not paying for the middle men.
- 22:18If you care about supporting Kansas agriculture, keeping
- 22:20money local, and eating beef the way that beef should taste, this
- 22:25is it. The best part is because you're

- 22:43Real beef, real ranchers, better beef for your all right tight
- 22:50end projected too deep. So we've got Garrett Oakley
- 22:56coming in from last year. We've got Lincoln Cure also
- 23:00returning from last year but has that 5 five star pedigree and
- 23:04then will Anzio's the other guy that's had some production over
- 23:07the last couple of years who's also returning.
- 23:11What is what is your, what's your 2D pier?
- 23:13Do you think Garrett is the guy or do you think we are are going
- 23:17to see Lincoln supplant him at some point this season?
- 23:20When I had mentioned earlier about running back, you'd asked
- 23:25if that was the deepest room. I think this is the deepest room
- 23:28on the team. I honestly did.
- 23:30I think people are really pulling on Will Ancio, that he
- 23:34might just be a Jag. I don't think so.
- 23:38I think people got enamored with him his freshman year where he
- 23:43caught all those touchdown passes and it was surprising to
- 23:47a lot of people. And then I think the
- 23:48expectations rose a little bit too fast for him, but I think
- 23:54he's going to settle in and I think he is going to if he if
- 23:56that's our tight end three, I think we're rocking and rolling.
- 24:01And then you've got the supreme town of Lincoln cure.
- 24:05I think in terms of physicality and uniqueness to the position,
- 24:14I don't think we've seen we've ever seen that at tight end at
- 24:17Kansas State. Will is will he have the career
- 24:23of a Ben Sennett? Will he be better than that?
- 24:25I don't know make will he be the greatest tight end of all time
- 24:28at Kansas State? I have no idea.
- 24:30He has the physical capabilities to be the best receiving tight
- 24:34end in case a history for sure and then I don't know if you I
- 24:39should have text you pictures of Garrett Oakley.
- 24:42I should have sent you more shirt.
- 24:44I saw, I saw. That I saw that picture.
- 24:46Today, not the one with the do rag, but I don't know if you saw
- 24:50that one. That one was pretty.
- 24:51That one. That one made me laugh.
- 24:53But the picture of him without a shirt on?
- 24:56He's solid. And with Colin Klein basically
- 25:01admitting that they have NFL scouts in there poking around at
- 25:04Garrett Oakley, wanting to see him at camp.
- 25:08I'm, I'm, I'm bought in on Garrett Oakley.
- 25:12He is frustrating in terms of the drops and the, the ball
- 25:18security. He was going against Jacob
- 25:21Rodriguez, who was, you know, that's not very fair.
- 25:24He, he did that to everybody. But man, I, I, I love this room.
- 25:31I think how we use them is going to be very interesting because I
- 25:36think there's a world where you can come out and empty.
- 25:44Now, OK, this is very video game logic of me and you know, maybe
- 25:50I'm fantasizing down the wrong path, but imagine you come out
- 25:56with Brandon White and shotgun, like Brandon Avery Johnson
- 26:01taking the shotgun snap. He's the quarterback.
- 26:04Brandon White's in the backfield with him.
- 26:06You've got a tight end Lincoln Cure and Garrett Oakley in line
- 26:11like they're they're on the line of scrimmage ones off anyway.
- 26:15And you got you've got Tibs and you've got Josh Manning on the
- 26:22outside. OK, It's going to look very
- 26:25interesting. That looks like you could power,
- 26:28you could hand the ball off to Brandon White, flare it out to
- 26:31him. Imagine you just formation shift
- 26:33into A5 wide set. How do you as a defense, how do
- 26:38you guard that? They have two tight ends out
- 26:40there. You've got to bring in somewhat
- 26:42of a heavy personnel or, or, or maybe it's Rodney Fields instead
- 26:48of Brandon White 'cause he's a very good receiver.
- 26:51So now it looks like you could run power, you could run
- 26:53quarterback power, bring an extra.
- 26:56This is just what I'm thinking. And then you just formation
- 26:58shift into five wide set. Now you 'cause you got Garrett
- 27:03Oakley a very good receiver. You've got Lincoln Cure as
- 27:07arguably one of the best, you know, receiving talents at tight
- 27:11end and you got Rodney fields out there and then it's five
- 27:14wide and you spread the field out and you got tight ends
- 27:16trying to be guard by linebackers and one-on-one.
- 27:19It's it's these are the things I think of and makes this room is
- 27:24such a weapon. It's such a weapon to have this
- 27:28this kind of talent. It's just it's just depends on
- 27:31how we're going to use them. I'm, I'm convinced that if I, I
- 27:35hope we see more 12 personnel, I hope we see a lot of two tight
- 27:39end sets out there, but that that also takes away from the
- 27:42receiver room. But I'm OK with if, if we only
- 27:45have two receivers out there, I don't think our receiver talent
- 27:48is all that. So I think tight end talent is a
- 27:51lot better. And if we have the, the running
- 27:55backs that I think we have, I think we need go to tight ends,
- 27:58have a lot of heavy bodies out there.
- 28:00Start smashing, smashing, smashing, and these tight ends
- 28:04take over. When the linebackers are worried
- 28:07about trying to guard the run man, you're got, you're going to
- 28:11have a lot of it's there's the potential is there, the
- 28:15potential is there. Obviously, some of the biggest
- 28:18strengths in this room are the athleticism you're mentioning,
- 28:21you know, the the formational flexibility that that this gives
- 28:24you as well, the ability to kind of throw some looks and add a
- 28:28defense that maybe they're they're not going to see in
- 28:31other games in in the season. So that that's always going to
- 28:34be interesting. Or if they do, they may not
- 28:37execute it the way that that K State could or will.
- 28:40What what do you think about your biggest concerns?
- 28:42What's your biggest concern about the tight end position or
- 28:45the tight end room this year? When you have the talent that
- 28:49you have, you have high expectations and I think the
- 28:53consistency with ball security and drops is is going to plague
- 28:58this unit. I think Garrett Oakley's already
- 29:02been labeled as such and I'm going to be looking for it.
- 29:06That's what that's I'm going to be honest, I'm going to be
- 29:08looking every time that Garrett Oakley runs A6 yard hitch in the
- 29:12middle of the field and Avery Johnson throws an absolute piss
- 29:16missile at him that he might not catch it.
- 29:20And that's just that's kind of where I'm at.
- 29:22And I wish that they were more consistent.
- 29:25I wish they were all Nick Lenners.
- 29:27I wish they were all I'm trying to think of just like random
- 29:32tight ends we had. I wish they were all a matter
- 29:35Beybes. I wish I wish they were all
- 29:44Briley Moore's. They just catch everything.
- 29:49I'm just I'm just talking shit really.
- 29:51But that's that is my number one concern is just the consistency
- 29:56because if we lean into this unit and they have the case of
- 30:00the drop sees that is going to stall a lot of the offense.
- 30:04Because if your, if your game plan is around them, they have
- 30:07to they have to bring it every game.
- 30:10Lincoln cure has to bring it every game.
- 30:14He can't, he can't drop. He can't drop passes.
- 30:16You can't. Because if, if we're going to,
- 30:19we're going to put, we need receivers out there.
- 30:21If, if the tight ends aren't catching the ball and if we're
- 30:25wasting a second and a second and six after a 4 yard gain on
- 30:32a, a, a curl route to the receiver or a, a corner route to
- 30:37the, the sideline to a tight end and he drops it, that's a waste.
- 30:40Now it's third and six, we're in trouble.
- 30:42So I, I think it's the consistency.
- 30:44I just I if this unit's consistent, we're fucking some
- 30:48people up. I'm not even going to ask about
- 30:51breakout candidate because I think we all think it's going to
- 30:53be Lincoln Cure. Who would you say is the sleeper
- 30:56in this room? I I would maybe go with a Will
- 30:59Ansio, but that we've also heard a lot of buzz about Lawson
- 31:03McGraw coming in legacy guy, Arlie Morell, the the flip from
- 31:08Iowa State from from last year. Do you think any of those
- 31:11younger guys get any kind of run at all this season outside of
- 31:14mop up duty or or is it just going to be the Oakland Cure
- 31:18show? Maybe NCO?
- 31:21I'd I'd like to see physically, I haven't seen pictures of them
- 31:26of Lawson McGraw or, or Morell. But if they're physically there,
- 31:33that's one of those positions where you kind of get recruited.
- 31:38And like Vincent, it was the opposite.
- 31:40Like he was a scrawny kid and he developed and and he needed a
- 31:44couple years to grow into those frames.
- 31:46Lawson McGraw is supposed to be 64200 and 30 lbs like already.
- 31:52And and like if you're that you can play like will you be
- 31:57consistent? Are you physical enough with
- 31:59that frame to block a 265 LB defensive end that's trying to
- 32:04rip your head off? I don't know, but will Ansio,
- 32:08Lincoln Cure, I hope and Garrett Oakley for sure are physical
- 32:12enough to do that. So those those, I don't know if
- 32:15they're those freshmen are physically ready to do that, but
- 32:19I would love it. My my last question here, will
- 32:24will Lincoln cure at some point this season, become the primary
- 32:28tight end? I would say no, yeah.
- 32:35My gut says no, but I think there's going to be times,
- 32:41depending on what the receiver situation is, that he might be
- 32:49in. In some games, he might be wide
- 32:50receiver too. Like that's where I could see
- 32:54it. Like he might not ever, you
- 32:57know, surpass Garrett Oakley where Garrett Oakley's leaving
- 33:00the field and he had, he's not getting the run anymore.
- 33:04If that's what you mean by is he Garrett tied in #1 I can't, I
- 33:08can't see him passing Garrett Oakley this season, but I can
- 33:12see him passing Josh Manning. OK.
- 33:17But why do I sound like a big Josh Manning hater right now?
- 33:21I don't want it to be that way. That's not what I want.
- 33:25But if I had to have somebody get surpassed, I don't think
- 33:31it's Tibbs and I don't think he's playing in the slot.
- 33:34So I think it's going to be Josh, man, I'm sorry.
- 33:39I hope Josh Manning shuts me up, dude.
- 33:41I hope he proves me so wrong. I hope he does, too.
- 33:46I'm putting a lot of eggs in the Josh Manning basket this year,
- 33:48mostly because of that ward. It's really where I'm where I'm
- 33:52coming from with that. All right.
- 33:55Any other thoughts on the tight ends?
- 33:58I, I, I like where we're at with the position, like I said, but I
- 34:03mean, I, I'm going to hammer it one more time, clip it if you
- 34:07want. The consistency of this unit is
- 34:12needed because if we're dropping, I think we're going to
- 34:15put a lot of eggs into the basket of tight end.
- 34:18So they have to, they have to bring it.
- 34:20So this is my, this is my boom or bust position.
- 34:24It, I think a lot of people are putting a lot of, you know,
- 34:28hindering what happens with the running game and all that stuff.
- 34:32I think this this coaching staff loves the tight end so much that
- 34:36if they're not good, the team's not good.
- 34:41Wow. And no drops.
- 34:45No drops. We can't have it.
- 34:49That is going to do it for us today.
