- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, sexy people.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It is Lala Kent and Randall and this is to
- 0:12Speaker 2: give them Lala with Randall podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: How you doing Baby, I'm good, Hunt.
- 0:17Speaker 3: I mean, I can't complain.
- 0:18Speaker 4: We're out here in Puerto Rico liv in a pretty
- 0:20Speaker 4: good moment.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We're literally on a yacht right now in the bedroom
- 0:25Speaker 2: doing this podcast.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty unique.
- 0:28Speaker 4: I gotta say, I didn't think I'd ever be on
- 0:30Speaker 4: a boat in the uh waters off of San Juan.
- 0:35Speaker 2: This is why I love Randal, because it's like, yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 2: it's pretty unique. I'm like, this is pretty fucking bad
- 0:39Speaker 2: at It's pretty unique.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Guys, it's pretty dope. I gotta say.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I I you know, I when I came up with
- 0:46Speaker 4: the idea because I knew we were like limited for time.
- 0:49Speaker 4: You're only out here visiting me for like this week.
- 0:52Speaker 4: And I was like, Okay, when can we fit this in.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I've got my kids here. Yeah, you I'm making a movie.
- 0:57Speaker 4: It's a little busy, and I was like, you know what,
- 0:59Speaker 4: let's just do it boat.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We had no other choice because Randall's here in Puerto
- 1:03Speaker 2: Rico making a movie until the end of March. I
- 1:07Speaker 2: am literally flying out tonight to Miami so that Randall's
- 1:11Speaker 2: mom can help me register for the wedding.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Then you go back and after that you have to
- 1:15Speaker 4: do your bridle shower, you have to do your fitting,
- 1:18Speaker 4: you have to do your bachelor party.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You got all the fitting of my wedding dress. Yep, yep,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you got to You got a full skill, you got
- 1:23Speaker 1: a full schedule, plus all.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Your other business that you run with your brands and stuff.
- 1:28Speaker 4: So I'm very impressed.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I'm overwhelmed, to say the very Let me ask you
- 1:32Speaker 1: a better.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Question, ask me, how are you really doing? I think
- 1:37Speaker 4: because I've seen you have a few meltdowns in the
- 1:39Speaker 4: last twenty four hours.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm feeling a lot of anxiety. I'm feeling like I'm
- 1:43Speaker 2: under a lot of pressure. There's just things that go
- 1:46Speaker 2: into a wedding and then maintaining your normal life like
- 1:49Speaker 2: business that you have to run.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It's a lot.
- 1:52Speaker 3: It's overwhelming.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I kind of have like gone down a path where
- 1:56Speaker 4: I've immersed myself into this movie. And then I get
- 1:59Speaker 4: about four hundred a day between you, my mother, your mother,
- 2:02Speaker 4: and the wedding pointer.
- 2:03Speaker 3: So you're on the firing line right now. So I
- 2:05Speaker 3: give you a lot.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's also stressful having my partner gone until literally
- 2:10Speaker 2: eighteen days before we walked down the aisle.
- 2:13Speaker 1: If that had to rips me the fuck out.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Would I would feel that way too, But I got
- 2:18Speaker 3: to pay the bills.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Can we talk about something mindless and fun like vander
- 2:21Speaker 2: Pump Rules for tonight?
- 2:24Speaker 4: I think I think that. I think Fander Will Tim.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Don't you think Fanner Pump Rules has some depth to it?
- 2:30Speaker 2: I do, absolutely yes, it has depth, you know what
- 2:33Speaker 2: I mean? Just something where it's like easy and if
- 2:36Speaker 2: we talk.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Shit and okay fun.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Why don't you tell Tim?
- 2:38Speaker 4: Tim has to seen a frigging episode, So why don't
- 2:41Speaker 4: you tell us about last Weekay? Well, let's talk about
- 2:43Speaker 4: last Weekcause Tim, you know what last week was, right?
- 2:46Speaker 4: It was a big Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 6: It was your premiere on the.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Show, which which I thought after four years of never
- 2:53Speaker 4: ever thinking this is going to happen, Lalla manipulated me
- 2:58Speaker 4: at the highest level. And by the way, after seeing it,
- 3:01Speaker 4: I really do love fucking fried chicken sandwiches.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And anybody has a problem with that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I don't think anyone had a problem with it.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I love fried chicken sandwich.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I'm glad they gave close ups I mean, if I
- 3:11Speaker 4: was making a movie, I wouldn't have focused on the
- 3:13Speaker 4: fried chicken.
- 3:14Speaker 3: But I guess that was exciting.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, random was like they did me so dirty? Why
- 3:17Speaker 1: would they?
- 3:18Speaker 2: They didn't show any of us ordering except Randall because
- 3:21Speaker 2: you got the stuff fried chicken.
- 3:22Speaker 6: I mean that's pretty fucked up.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I mean, Tim, there's a lot of other shit the
- 3:26Speaker 3: sea besides the fed. Nobody else ate, only you were
- 3:29Speaker 3: the only person that ate.
- 3:30Speaker 4: That's my point, babe. How come what did you guys
- 3:33Speaker 4: have a Well?
- 3:35Speaker 2: You know why they did that, right, because it stirs
- 3:38Speaker 2: up the controversy. At one point, James body shamed you,
- 3:41Speaker 2: so they zoned in on the fact that you ordered
- 3:43Speaker 2: double fried chicken.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's fucked up.
- 3:46Speaker 3: But I'm gonna tell you something.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Welcome to it.
- 3:47Speaker 3: If I ever filmed this.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Show again, I'm gonna order six desserts because I'm just mad.
- 3:53Speaker 6: You should just not eat one of the desserts and
- 3:55Speaker 6: just give them to everybody else, right, see it, sit
- 3:57Speaker 6: in satisfaction while everybody else enjoys the totally.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I like that.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I think I got screwed. I mean there were close ups.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I mean they should have just gone to slow motion.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Why don't we just go to slow motion with the
- 4:07Speaker 4: chicken going in my mouth?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Right? Well, they couldn't do that because they had to
- 4:12Speaker 1: fit newbies in.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Oh here we go. Here, I was about to light
- 4:16Speaker 3: it up.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So many people have been dming me, like, how do
- 4:18Speaker 2: you feel about.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Sena bullying Dana because you were once in that spot.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I fucking wish it was Shina that was bullying me.
- 4:28Speaker 1: That's fucking child's play, Like row ro row your fucking belt.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Man, you know boy, Oh here we go.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I'm like you guys like, yes, not cool what Shina
- 4:41Speaker 2: does to Dana. But like I had pit bulls after me,
- 4:47Speaker 2: Katie and Stossey are no joke.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Like if they were coming for Dana then I'd be like,
- 4:52Speaker 1: this is not cool. But Sheina, Like.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Okay, I just want to say she and I do
- 4:57Speaker 3: like you. I'm just gonna put it out.
- 4:59Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying Gina's a nice person with a
- 5:02Speaker 2: kind heart. So when she tries to bully people, that's
- 5:04Speaker 2: all it is is she's trying to It doesn't really
- 5:08Speaker 2: work out that well.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Are we done with the Vanderpunt segment? You don't like
- 5:13Speaker 3: it too, But I just think.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Like I make you feel uncomfortable, yeah, very.
- 5:17Speaker 3: But can I say what thing though? Because because people
- 5:20Speaker 3: have asked.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Me a lot, and when I premiered that episode with you,
- 5:23Speaker 4: I just want to tell you something. I really was
- 5:25Speaker 4: so uncomfortable going into this to do this and to
- 5:28Speaker 4: show this part of our life. And I will tell
- 5:30Speaker 4: you that being with you, you're obviously very comfortable in
- 5:34Speaker 4: front of the camera, and you made me very comfortable.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And I think that.
- 5:38Speaker 4: It's nice that people do get to see us the
- 5:41Speaker 4: way we are, you know, a little slice, a small slice,
- 5:44Speaker 4: and I didn't mind it, and people were very kind
- 5:47Speaker 4: in the comments. I was shocked because I thought it
- 5:49Speaker 4: was just going to be a you know, a beheading.
- 5:52Speaker 2: No. But I also think that because the podcast happened
- 5:56Speaker 2: a little bit before the episode, people really got to
- 6:00Speaker 2: see what you were like as a person, you know,
- 6:03Speaker 2: because no one knew what you were like and how
- 6:06Speaker 2: we are together until we did the podcast, and then
- 6:10Speaker 2: it kind of broke people into it prepared them.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It prepared them.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Okay, I dig that, and actually that's nice and I
- 6:17Speaker 4: and I think it's nice. I think I want to
- 6:20Speaker 4: tell you something now that I'm looking out the.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Hatch of this bedroom at the ocean.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You're mad.
- 6:26Speaker 4: No, I just think it's pretty dope, like it is
- 6:28Speaker 4: pretty cool, Like it's I think if our you know
- 6:31Speaker 4: what we should do? What we should do a giveaway
- 6:35Speaker 4: where we invite like five or ten of your fans
- 6:40Speaker 4: to a trip to Miami on the yacht where we
- 6:44Speaker 4: podcast live.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Okay, well we need to pass a background check?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Why, Alex? Why?
- 6:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I just.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Invite five people that we don't know to Miami.
- 6:56Speaker 4: These are your favorite I think faith, I have faith.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I'm not afraid, Alex. Do you think, Alex, you will
- 7:02Speaker 4: need Okay, our producers are here on the boat with us.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Alex.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Do you think we would really need to pass a
- 7:07Speaker 4: background Honestly, I.
- 7:08Speaker 8: Think just for the sport of it all, we should
- 7:09Speaker 8: not do a background. That's saying do they giveaway on Instagram? General? All,
- 7:16Speaker 8: all people are welcome, no questions asked. Then you've got
- 7:19Speaker 8: a show and mind.
- 7:21Speaker 2: These boys, these producer Tim and producer Alex are about
- 7:27Speaker 2: seven to ten drinks deep.
- 7:29Speaker 3: That's not true. There twelve twelve and.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I encourage it. Let's talk about this.
- 7:37Speaker 2: So last week's episode, you know how we asked our
- 7:41Speaker 2: listeners to call and tell us we are taking up
- 7:46Speaker 2: the anchors, y'all.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Do you hear that the background?
- 7:50Speaker 1: The anchors are coming up.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It'll be up in a minute.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So last week we asked our listeners to call in
- 7:57Speaker 2: because you and I were battling about one kid or two.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Well, the callers have voted.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Oh they have.
- 8:06Speaker 1: They say, were you present last week for the podcast?
- 8:10Speaker 3: I didn't think it was like you were going to
- 8:11Speaker 3: really take it to this level?
- 8:12Speaker 1: Of course I did.
- 8:14Speaker 3: There's some missions going on with this podcast.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So out of all of the voicemails we got, which
- 8:20Speaker 2: were a lot, you only got five people.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's bullshit, what I tell you. They're all your fans.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Of course I was gonna get it.
- 8:27Speaker 2: No, you did get Listen though, Listen to this voicemail
- 8:30Speaker 2: from one of the five, from one of the five
- 8:34Speaker 2: that had your back.
- 8:36Speaker 7: Hey, Lala and Randall, this is Emily Friend, Kingsport, Tennessee.
- 8:40Speaker 7: I love y'all podcast. It's so interesting to just tear
- 8:43Speaker 7: your dynamic and learn more about you. But I'm calling
- 8:46Speaker 7: to vote on how many kiss you.
- 8:50Speaker 9: Should have because you know it's completely my business.
- 8:53Speaker 7: But La La, I want you to know I was
- 8:55Speaker 7: the kid who had the two step siblings and on Christmas,
- 8:59Speaker 7: you know, so they would leave. We would have to
- 9:01Speaker 7: split every holiday. And it's probably the selfish bitch inside me,
- 9:08Speaker 7: but I loved it when my step siblings left and
- 9:11Speaker 7: then it was just me and my mom and dad.
- 9:14Speaker 7: And you know it sounds bad, but I was about
- 9:18Speaker 7: that last So sorry, I'm team Randall.
- 9:21Speaker 9: One kid. Bye, guys.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Okay, I need a response to that, right o, Emily,
- 9:26Speaker 4: I've never even heard of Kingsport, Tennessee. But I'm gonna
- 9:28Speaker 4: tell you something great great, great town, great town, good people. Emily.
- 9:32Speaker 4: You're with me for life. I'm your biggest fan Kingsport, Tennessee.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I'm coming hot. I'm gonna come check that place out, Laala.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Emily has spoken and she is She's the boss. How
- 9:45Speaker 4: do you want to respond to that, Lalla?
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna respond this way.
- 9:48Speaker 2: If I decide I want two kids, I will be
- 9:53Speaker 2: getting two kids. So yes, I will be getting two
- 9:56Speaker 2: kids if I want two kids, Lalla.
- 9:58Speaker 3: However many kids you want, you can have a I
- 10:00Speaker 3: love you very much.
- 10:00Speaker 1: That is a great answer. There we go.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Okay, So Emily from Kinnning Sport, I'm with you, but Lala,
- 10:08Speaker 4: at the end, of the day.
- 10:10Speaker 3: She's the boss.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't want to come home to an unhappy Lalla.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I don't think anybody does, including myself. You have to
- 10:22Speaker 2: live with yourself, which is even more tortuous answer. You know,
- 10:26Speaker 2: we had an exciting guest today.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 4: So what makes today amazing is that my friend of
- 10:33Speaker 4: like fifteen years, Jesse Terrero, who is an incredible filmmaker,
- 10:38Speaker 4: one of the biggest music video directors in the business,
- 10:41Speaker 4: directed a movie. And here's what's cool, Tim, producer. Tim
- 10:45Speaker 4: was producer's assistant on the movie that jessere Jesse directed.
- 10:50Speaker 6: The second one he directed, the second one he directed
- 10:52Speaker 6: ten years ago.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Tim was my assistant and now Tim's producer Tim both
- 10:56Speaker 4: on movies and on the podcast. So we are both
- 10:59Speaker 4: excited because it's like memory late. So, Jesse Guerrero, I.
- 11:01Speaker 6: Was fired on his movie.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I did fire.
- 11:04Speaker 6: I was fired on Jesse's Here.
- 11:05Speaker 1: We Go and then brought back because.
- 11:07Speaker 6: The next day I was rehired and promoted. But I
- 11:10Speaker 6: was I was fired for real.
- 11:11Speaker 4: No, I sent us home. I said, you're fired, it's
- 11:14Speaker 4: over because he was a horrible You were horrible.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Where was this?
- 11:16Speaker 1: Where was this?
- 11:17Speaker 3: We were well new Orleans, New Orleans. We were filming,
- 11:21Speaker 3: but in LA I sent him home. He goes back
- 11:23Speaker 3: to LA.
- 11:23Speaker 4: He's fired, and then I wake up and I'm like,
- 11:25Speaker 4: you know what, the guy is so good with script
- 11:28Speaker 4: and he's so good. It's like, you know, a really
- 11:29Speaker 4: good material driven guy. He's very good with writers. And
- 11:33Speaker 4: I was like, you know what, I'm gonna promote him.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I fired him so I could promote him. Can I
- 11:36Speaker 4: promoted him to develop executive?
- 11:38Speaker 3: Wow.
- 11:38Speaker 6: I mean it was bittersweet because when I was fired,
- 11:40Speaker 6: I was like, oh yeah, really, Oh, I was so relieved.
- 11:46Speaker 6: But then, you know, my ultimate goal obviously was to
- 11:49Speaker 6: grow in the industry, so you know, I didn't even
- 11:51Speaker 6: have to think about it, and I promoted.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I said, Tim, you know, I know your strengths are
- 11:55Speaker 4: with script and I really need somebody that knows script
- 11:58Speaker 4: in and out.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And I promoted him.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Twelve years later, now he's producing the movie I'm directing
- 12:02Speaker 4: out here in Puerto Rico.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Is that amazing? Which is an honor?
- 12:05Speaker 1: By the way, Yeah, that movie was it that Jesse
- 12:08Speaker 1: Treir was.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Jesse directed a very small budgeted film that we had starring.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Fifty Val Kilmer. Val Kilmer's the first one, yeah, right,
- 12:18Speaker 6: and then Freelancers, which was De Niro.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we had Robert de Niro fifty cent it was
- 12:24Speaker 4: it was actually a great film and it was a
- 12:27Speaker 4: great experience.
- 12:28Speaker 3: And that was one of the first times we have
- 12:29Speaker 3: to work with ni Forest Whitaker and Forrest Whitaker.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, so Justin directed two good movies for us. Jeff
- 12:35Speaker 4: and I'm gonna say something. Jesse has become, like you know,
- 12:38Speaker 4: he is incredibly influential in the music scene. He'll he'll
- 12:41Speaker 4: get into his resume with us and how he started.
- 12:43Speaker 4: But I just want people to know, like when on
- 12:45Speaker 4: this podcast, that we're also going to have people behind
- 12:47Speaker 4: the scenes like myself. I think it's really exciting and
- 12:50Speaker 4: interesting to hear. And Jesse's a big personality and a
- 12:53Speaker 4: great guy, so I think we should we should bring
- 12:55Speaker 4: him out here.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Let's bring him out.
- 12:57Speaker 3: We'll bring him down to the Let's bring him.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Down to this tiny ass yacht bedroom.
- 13:18Speaker 3: All right, we are back, law. Are you ready for Jesse?
- 13:22Speaker 1: I'm ready for Jesse.
- 13:24Speaker 4: All right, Let's welcome my buddy and an incredible filmmaker,
- 13:28Speaker 4: Jesse Crrero.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Welcome, buddy.
- 13:30Speaker 5: What's up? What's up? What's going on.
- 13:34Speaker 4: So here's the crazy thing, Jess, I invited you on
- 13:37Speaker 4: a yacht today to come chill with us, and I'm like, oh,
- 13:41Speaker 4: you also got to be on our podcast.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we hustled out of here.
- 13:44Speaker 5: This is the best invitation to a podcast. Every think
- 13:48Speaker 5: anybody got the yacht invitation to record?
- 13:51Speaker 4: All right, So Jess, tell fans like they don't know, like,
- 13:54Speaker 4: you know, your history, how you started came up with
- 13:57Speaker 4: music videos and et cetera. Why don't you just tell them,
- 13:59Speaker 4: like you know, how you just start directing and kind
- 14:01Speaker 4: of you know, ledg.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You to where you are today.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean for me, it sort of happened by accident,
- 14:06Speaker 5: because you know, I grew up in the neighborhood where
- 14:08Speaker 5: we didn't dream about being filmmakers. And my mother worked
- 14:12Speaker 5: that night, my father worked in the day, and there
- 14:13Speaker 5: was a gap of time where nobody was home. So
- 14:16Speaker 5: my mother bought a camera and she said, while she's
- 14:19Speaker 5: on her way from work and my father's on the
- 14:21Speaker 5: way to work, nobody could go into the streets. And
- 14:24Speaker 5: we were like thirteen twelve, eleven ten, and we started
- 14:28Speaker 5: making movies in those two hours. Wow, as my parents
- 14:32Speaker 5: are coming home, and my father actually worked in the
- 14:34Speaker 5: mainenance department in CBS, so you know, my father came
- 14:38Speaker 5: from the Dominican Republic. My mom as well, didn't speak
- 14:41Speaker 5: the language, and my father got a maintenance job, but
- 14:43Speaker 5: he would get things and he would bring home, like
- 14:45Speaker 5: soundtracks from like movies and TV shows, and we started
- 14:49Speaker 5: using that in these little urban movies we were doing.
- 14:52Speaker 5: And my brother Ulysses personality is much bigger than mine,
- 14:56Speaker 5: so he always wanted to start in the movies, so
- 14:58Speaker 5: it forced me to have to. So every movie had
- 15:02Speaker 5: like his title, like Julie on Elm Street Super and
- 15:06Speaker 5: then you know, somebody had to manage the camera. So
- 15:10Speaker 5: you know, I was always like the you know, the
- 15:11Speaker 5: guy that got killed quick. But I learned how to.
- 15:13Speaker 5: You know, we started making movies young, and.
- 15:16Speaker 3: That how you transition into the know.
- 15:19Speaker 5: We used to watch this video program called Video Music
- 15:22Speaker 5: Box and it was like the first channel that showed
- 15:25Speaker 5: music videos. And one day they made an announcement that
- 15:28Speaker 5: they were casting a film. Now, all we had was
- 15:30Speaker 5: our ghetto acting that we did at the house, so
- 15:33Speaker 5: we thought it was a good idea. Maybe there'll be
- 15:34Speaker 5: a lot of hot girls there. So we went to
- 15:36Speaker 5: the casting and a lot of Latin kids didn't show
- 15:40Speaker 5: up to the casting, so the casting director was like, look,
- 15:43Speaker 5: we're looking for kids your type. And the movie was
- 15:45Speaker 5: called Juice with Tupac Shakur, so we were part of
- 15:50Speaker 5: the Latin gang that had beef for Tupac in the movie.
- 15:53Speaker 5: And that was the first time I really stepped on
- 15:55Speaker 5: the movie set.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I didn't even know.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it was me and my brother Vincent Aureska played
- 15:59Speaker 5: like the lead.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I loved Eddie because a place.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Poker and that I signed up any videws. I loved
- 16:05Speaker 5: it in together. And after that, I saw like a
- 16:08Speaker 5: bunch of people that you know, I thought were cool,
- 16:10Speaker 5: that looked like me working on film, and I was like, wow,
- 16:13Speaker 5: you know, some people can really do this. And when
- 16:16Speaker 5: I met Vinnie and those guys, they all went to
- 16:17Speaker 5: the school of Performing arts. Like in my neighborhood, I
- 16:20Speaker 5: grew up with Jamaica queens. Like people weren't going to
- 16:22Speaker 5: the performing arts school. So I was like, wow, this,
- 16:26Speaker 5: you know this, you know, I didn't know anybody like that.
- 16:28Speaker 5: And then I, you know, switched my major in college
- 16:30Speaker 5: and started studying theater and then you know, directing and
- 16:33Speaker 5: shot a short film my junior year in school, and
- 16:36Speaker 5: because the people I met on Juice, they offered me
- 16:38Speaker 5: an internship on the Columbia Pictures project. In the third
- 16:41Speaker 5: year in college, I dropped out to do that and
- 16:43Speaker 5: then I never stopped working.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Wow, okay, what was the first because was it music videos,
- 16:49Speaker 4: TV or features?
- 16:50Speaker 3: When you first started?
- 16:50Speaker 5: When I worked on features? So you know, so I
- 16:53Speaker 5: interned and I did everything. I ran around, getting people coffee,
- 16:56Speaker 5: picking up the direct everything that that I needed to
- 17:00Speaker 5: to sort of and be on set and soak up
- 17:02Speaker 5: a bunch of things. And then the music video thing
- 17:05Speaker 5: started to happen in New York, and because we interned
- 17:09Speaker 5: on the film, we would get jobs and opportunities. And
- 17:12Speaker 5: now look, Tupac, who was a good friend of minees
- 17:14Speaker 5: became a huge star.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Oh Tupac was your friend.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Yeah, so I still run around with Pac and you know,
- 17:19Speaker 5: and then Tretch from Naughty by Nature was one of
- 17:22Speaker 5: his best friends, and he's an extra and Juice too.
- 17:24Speaker 5: He was part of the gang with us. So all
- 17:26Speaker 5: of a sudden, by the time Juice is getting ready
- 17:28Speaker 5: to come out, you know, Pok didn't have no music out.
- 17:31Speaker 5: He had one little song when we did Juice, so
- 17:33Speaker 5: by the time the movie came out a year later,
- 17:35Speaker 5: all of a sudden, you know, this kid becomes the
- 17:36Speaker 5: biggest artist in the world. And then Tretch invites us
- 17:39Speaker 5: to a music video. Never heard the kid rap, and
- 17:42Speaker 5: we show up to his music video as a song
- 17:43Speaker 5: called opp Then and this kid becomes like gigantic, and
- 17:49Speaker 5: then you know, now I'm like seeing the music video
- 17:52Speaker 5: thing happen. I'm around it. It's like, you know, an
- 17:54Speaker 5: incredible experience, is surreal, you know, wow. And I met
- 17:57Speaker 5: some directors along the way, and we started getting working
- 18:01Speaker 5: behind the scenes on some music videos and.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Who gives you your first break.
- 18:05Speaker 5: What I didn't though, is I didn't know that some
- 18:06Speaker 5: directors didn't write their concepts. So I was around this
- 18:09Speaker 5: one director and I heard her complaining that Puffy didn't
- 18:12Speaker 5: like the concept from Hype Williams or this director, Dan
- 18:16Speaker 5: Marteau and a bunch of people, and I saw that
- 18:19Speaker 5: when I heard the conversation, I knew what Puffy probably meant.
- 18:21Speaker 5: So you know, I made a comment. I was like,
- 18:23Speaker 5: I think I know what he wants. And then she
- 18:25Speaker 5: was like, oh, you're so smart. When did you write
- 18:27Speaker 5: the concept? So I did and she got the job.
- 18:30Speaker 5: So then she was like, Okay, maybe he does know
- 18:32Speaker 5: what's going on. So for the next couple of years,
- 18:35Speaker 5: I was behind a lot of concepts and music videos,
- 18:37Speaker 5: so everybody knew me as a creative guy, and even
- 18:39Speaker 5: artists will send me their songs and I would write
- 18:42Speaker 5: the concept I just didn't get credit for doing it.
- 18:44Speaker 5: I would get five hundred bucks and the directors. These
- 18:47Speaker 5: were million dollar videos. So at some point I was like,
- 18:49Speaker 5: the math didn't that up. I was like, and the
- 18:53Speaker 5: one director I worked with it she told me, she goes, look, man,
- 18:55Speaker 5: you write great ideas, but you don't write them well,
- 18:58Speaker 5: like you need to learn how to write the treatments.
- 19:01Speaker 5: And then she showed me a bunch of better creatives
- 19:03Speaker 5: and I learned how to write the treatments better. And
- 19:05Speaker 5: then I sort of took off in that space. And
- 19:07Speaker 5: then there was a Chris Robinson who was a young
- 19:10Speaker 5: black director coming out as one of those bags. He
- 19:13Speaker 5: was coming up and his reps found out that I
- 19:15Speaker 5: was writing for Dan Martell, and they said, hey, why
- 19:18Speaker 5: don't you start being on Chris's team? And when I
- 19:20Speaker 5: met Chris, he was doing one hundred and fifty thousand videos,
- 19:23Speaker 5: and we used to sit in a room together and
- 19:24Speaker 5: just christ yeah yeah, and then we just his career
- 19:28Speaker 5: started taking off. I was part of that wave. Chris
- 19:31Speaker 5: showed me a lot. I was part of his creative team,
- 19:33Speaker 5: and then ultimately he signed me.
- 19:34Speaker 3: As a director, and that's how it happened. That's how it happened.
- 19:36Speaker 3: What's the first video you do?
- 19:38Speaker 2: Well?
- 19:39Speaker 5: I started doing some small videos in Canada. First, these
- 19:42Speaker 5: Canadian artists. Canada gives you like free money to make videos.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Budgets were good.
- 19:46Speaker 5: No, no, no, they weren't good. They were like ten grand.
- 19:48Speaker 5: But you know, they would get the money for free,
- 19:51Speaker 5: like they would get these grants from the government. So
- 19:53Speaker 5: these kids would make me write these treatments for them
- 19:55Speaker 5: because they knew I wrote treatments, But then nobody understood
- 19:58Speaker 5: them because they were like Wu tang idea is. But
- 20:00Speaker 5: Canada was not hard then, so they were like, whoa, no,
- 20:04Speaker 5: but it's more urban now. You know, I'm not knocking Canada.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You know that's pretty hard.
- 20:10Speaker 5: But you know, back then, the you know, I was
- 20:12Speaker 5: writing stuff that felt like Wu tangle mob deep and
- 20:14Speaker 5: some of the directors there didn't understand it at the time.
- 20:17Speaker 5: So the kids were like, hey, why don't you direct it?
- 20:19Speaker 5: And that sort of becan how it became. And then
- 20:21Speaker 5: you know, I did a ten thousand dollars video that
- 20:23Speaker 5: got nominated for Much Music Video of the Year.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Come on.
- 20:25Speaker 5: And then after that huge and after that, I was
- 20:28Speaker 5: because I'm king hot in Canada. But and I was
- 20:31Speaker 5: sent an assistant in the US.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 20:33Speaker 5: So I would drive nine hours by myself because you know,
- 20:35Speaker 5: most of my friends didn't believe in the directing thing.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Popping no, those pills, driving myself to Canada. You know, Fuck,
- 20:42Speaker 5: this is you know, hustling.
- 20:44Speaker 4: You know what was the first big video job you
- 20:46Speaker 4: got that really you knew when you showed up? Like
- 20:49Speaker 4: I remember my first movie I produced.
- 20:50Speaker 5: You know, the first when I signed with Chris Robinson.
- 20:53Speaker 5: He brought me an artist by the name of Jill Scott.
- 20:56Speaker 5: And Jill Scott at the time, you know, she she
- 21:00Speaker 5: she wrote a song with the that the roots in Erkabo.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Dude recorded that one and won a Grammy. They took
- 21:05Speaker 5: her off the song because she wasn't popular and the
- 21:08Speaker 5: record lay would put eric about Duke because they were like,
- 21:11Speaker 5: who is Joe Scott? Like, they took her right off
- 21:13Speaker 5: her record, you know, but she won the Grammy. When
- 21:15Speaker 5: I went to meet in Philadelphia, her album was titled
- 21:18Speaker 5: who Is Joe Scott? And she was like, Yo, this year,
- 21:20Speaker 5: I'm gonna crush it, and so she wanted to do
- 21:24Speaker 5: something different. I wrote two videos. We did them back
- 21:26Speaker 5: to back and got caught a nomination Ride Out the
- 21:29Speaker 5: Gay f M TV, and then I started yeah. And
- 21:34Speaker 5: then then then, you know, because Jill Scott was so
- 21:36Speaker 5: pro black and the female and my Jesse's written with
- 21:39Speaker 5: a y, I guess they thought I was a female.
- 21:42Speaker 5: And from that point I was Jill Scott, Kelly Price,
- 21:45Speaker 5: Angie Stone. I was doing all the girls, and I
- 21:48Speaker 5: was like, yo, I'm a hip hop guy, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 5: I want to get back to hip hop, and.
- 21:53Speaker 7: You know, and.
- 21:57Speaker 5: You'll said, they were like, okay, this is not what
- 22:00Speaker 5: we expected. So so now you run through that thing.
- 22:04Speaker 5: So when when I was, you know, writing treatments, it
- 22:08Speaker 5: was a pretty girl that moved in next door to
- 22:10Speaker 5: me and my and my little, you know, shitty apartment
- 22:13Speaker 5: in Hollywood, and uh she you know, she had this
- 22:17Speaker 5: boyfriend that was like a thug. So this was my
- 22:20Speaker 5: first introduction to gang bang life, right, so she would
- 22:23Speaker 5: go to work and then he would hang around the building.
- 22:25Speaker 5: So sometimes I would see him and he'll throw up
- 22:26Speaker 5: a side like what up, cuz, and I'm like, whoa,
- 22:29Speaker 5: you know, I don't really know what that was about.
- 22:31Speaker 5: And then he was and then his name was Little
- 22:33Speaker 5: Half Dead, right, so I'm like this guy, this guy
- 22:39Speaker 5: became my friend. Right, so now he's telling me, you know,
- 22:44Speaker 5: crib Long Beach. So so Little Half Dad becames my friends.
- 22:47Speaker 5: So he comes over every day because he does have
- 22:49Speaker 5: a job, comes over. He's like on tour, supposed he
- 22:51Speaker 5: was Snoop and Nate and all these guys. So we're
- 22:54Speaker 5: rocking with him. When my cruising down Melrose, some guys
- 22:56Speaker 5: look over. He's throwing crip signs. I'm like, yo, Dug,
- 22:59Speaker 5: I just moved to This is not how in New York.
- 23:02Speaker 5: Is not like this. But one day he brought he said, Yo,
- 23:06Speaker 5: I'm gonna bring some of my friends over. And he
- 23:08Speaker 5: brings Snoop Dogg and the dog to my crib. I
- 23:11Speaker 5: got my television on the milk crk and he brings
- 23:14Speaker 5: Snoop Dogg to my house and all Snoop Dogg walks
- 23:17Speaker 5: in talks mad Ship we played PlayStation, smokes a lot
- 23:20Speaker 5: of weed, beats me and fucking because he kills in
- 23:23Speaker 5: all those games, Snoop. And then my whole building's in my lobby,
- 23:27Speaker 5: I mean in the hallway. And then he leaves. This
- 23:30Speaker 5: is this is like right after the chronicle.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, this is as big as it cats.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I mean.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Yeah. Then he leaves and I never see him again, Snoop.
- 23:41Speaker 5: And then Little Half dead ends up going to prison.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:44Speaker 5: So I see Snoop at the MTV Awards when I
- 23:47Speaker 5: get the nomination, and he sees him, goes, yo, chess,
- 23:51Speaker 5: little Half that always ask about you, man, blah blah blah.
- 23:54Speaker 5: And I tell Snoop, I said, man, I need to
- 23:56Speaker 5: get on this urban thing again these videos. He goes,
- 23:58Speaker 5: call me tomorrow, I got a video for one hundred
- 24:00Speaker 5: and fifty grand. Let's go now, and he put me
- 24:03Speaker 5: right into that's it.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 5: And then right after what song was that?
- 24:05Speaker 3: What song was that?
- 24:06Speaker 5: It was a song that MTV ended up like banning
- 24:08Speaker 5: the video that I did it because you know how
- 24:11Speaker 5: they put the black lines. I put like the crip
- 24:13Speaker 5: band Dan.
- 24:14Speaker 3: It's hardcore.
- 24:15Speaker 5: It was super against you know. It was my party shot.
- 24:21Speaker 5: I went super d Okay, show them you know, wait,
- 24:26Speaker 5: let me ask it.
- 24:27Speaker 4: So Jesse just cut cup fast forward. Give us some
- 24:29Speaker 4: of the artists, especially the fans. Tell us some of
- 24:32Speaker 4: the artists that you have done videos for it, because
- 24:34Speaker 4: I know you've worked with everybody.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so you know I worked with you know, Cameron
- 24:40Speaker 5: or styles p or h. Fifty was my biggest client, right.
- 24:43Speaker 5: I did twenty five videos with fifty right from the beginning.
- 24:46Speaker 5: So he grew up in my neighbors so I always
- 24:49Speaker 5: heard his music. That's how that happened when so he
- 24:52Speaker 5: was always hot in the neighborhood. And then he got
- 24:53Speaker 5: shot and everybody kind of knew the stories. And then
- 24:57Speaker 5: when he signed to Interscope, I told Jimmy Ivan's nephew DJ,
- 25:01Speaker 5: I said, hey, I want to do fifty cent when
- 25:03Speaker 5: the project comes around, and he was like, yeah, it's
- 25:05Speaker 5: probably gonna come around in like a year, and I
- 25:07Speaker 5: was like, yeah, but I want to do it as
- 25:08Speaker 5: he's from my neighborhood. And then a year later he
- 25:10Speaker 5: kept his word, and during that time I was already
- 25:13Speaker 5: excelling now doing videos that were like four hundred and
- 25:15Speaker 5: five were so for me at that time, nobody the
- 25:19Speaker 5: big directors want to get to touch a video for
- 25:21Speaker 5: new artists like that, So it kind of gave me
- 25:23Speaker 5: a path into fifty. Wangster was already out for like
- 25:26Speaker 5: a year and a half.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It was already first ring tone on the first phone
- 25:30Speaker 1: I ever got.
- 25:30Speaker 5: So I did that video, and because of the violence
- 25:33Speaker 5: around fifty, we couldn't get permits to shoot in New
- 25:36Speaker 5: York City. So I wrote a concept and fifty was like,
- 25:39Speaker 5: whoever wrote this concept had to be from the neighborhood
- 25:41Speaker 5: because the way the intricacies.
- 25:43Speaker 3: The way he knew that you knew the same thing.
- 25:46Speaker 5: And then I was like, look, I can make LA,
- 25:48Speaker 5: because they were concerned to do his first video in LA,
- 25:50Speaker 5: and I said, I can make it look like New York.
- 25:52Speaker 5: Don't worry. I know this one block and as long
- 25:54Speaker 5: as I shoot the right angles, it's gonna feel like
- 25:56Speaker 5: we're in New York City. And we shot Wangster in LA.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Such a fucking bad ass.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I want to be you, But I'll
- 26:05Speaker 4: tell you I made two movies with Jesse on very
- 26:08Speaker 4: limited budgets, and I will tell you Jesse is a
- 26:10Speaker 4: creative motherfucker. He made the ship work. He does a
- 26:13Speaker 4: complain he does a bitch. He just he's like, yo,
- 26:16Speaker 4: we'll find a path forward. And that's what makes you
- 26:17Speaker 4: a great director, is that you're one of those guys
- 26:20Speaker 4: that can, you know, overcome really tough circumstances on a budget.
- 26:24Speaker 3: So I'll give you a lot of props.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I want to hear more. Let's take a short break.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I just want to pick your brain all day, Jess.
- 26:36Speaker 2: All right, we are back with the epic Jesse Cuerrero's.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Let's keep it.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Mind is blown.
- 26:42Speaker 3: No, it's so funny because I made two movies with Jess.
- 26:44Speaker 3: I forget how how awesome you are because I'm your boy.
- 26:48Speaker 3: But then you know, I hear you talk, you know,
- 26:50Speaker 3: from this, I forget the history you have, you know,
- 26:52Speaker 3: in music.
- 26:53Speaker 4: So what I want to know, and I think Lon
- 26:56Speaker 4: are both a little oblivious to this, is that the
- 26:58Speaker 4: Latin culture right now, the Hispanic music scene is what
- 27:03Speaker 4: hip hop and pop music was over the last twenty years,
- 27:07Speaker 4: Latin music today.
- 27:08Speaker 3: These artists are the stars.
- 27:10Speaker 5: Of worldwide, gigantic gigant So how's that?
- 27:14Speaker 3: Because I know you know all of them. I know
- 27:15Speaker 3: you do videos, I know you produce them.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Yeah, you know for me, for me being Dominican, it
- 27:20Speaker 5: was always part of my culture, you know. And when
- 27:22Speaker 5: I started doing music videos, I used to complain all
- 27:25Speaker 5: the time because the Land videos, I felt were just
- 27:29Speaker 5: looked weak and they look cheap, you know, and it
- 27:32Speaker 5: used to bother me that they didn't look like the
- 27:33Speaker 5: general market videos. And then when MTV did me TRL,
- 27:37Speaker 5: which was their Spanish version, they started putting like en
- 27:39Speaker 5: sync videos next to like countdowns with Aventuda or the
- 27:43Speaker 5: Land groups. We see the indel against like a Destiny's child,
- 27:46Speaker 5: and then you're like, whoa. You can see sort of
- 27:48Speaker 5: the difference in the level of the videos. So I
- 27:50Speaker 5: was telling a friend of minees complaining, and he said,
- 27:53Speaker 5: you know what, you can continue to complain and you
- 27:55Speaker 5: could be part of the change, but you got to
- 27:56Speaker 5: make that decision. So I was like, man, I'm about
- 28:00Speaker 5: to take a Picatla my mother and Mercedes in a
- 28:10Speaker 5: bowl on it and I inside my rims with twenty six.
- 28:16Speaker 5: I was killing the gang. I was like, time to
- 28:18Speaker 5: bring the chains back. But I did. I. You know,
- 28:21Speaker 5: I took a step back and I said, you know what,
- 28:22Speaker 5: I felt that they weren't getting the respect and and
- 28:26Speaker 5: the sort of the at least the visuals that they
- 28:28Speaker 5: deserved because they were superstars in my eyes. So I
- 28:31Speaker 5: sort of ingratiated myself in the Latin culture. When Daddy
- 28:33Speaker 5: Yankee got signed to Interscope, he was the first artist
- 28:35Speaker 5: I have a general, a general market record deal. Someone
- 28:39Speaker 5: that Interscope said, hey, you know, Jesse's Dominican, and they
- 28:43Speaker 5: put me on the phone with Yankee, and then I
- 28:45Speaker 5: did two videos for him, a song called Gangsters on
- 28:47Speaker 5: with Snoop and then the song called Rompe, which was
- 28:50Speaker 5: one of his like big songs that broke into the
- 28:52Speaker 5: American market. And then from that on that moment, a
- 28:55Speaker 5: lot of the Latin artists started knowing that I was Dominicans,
- 28:57Speaker 5: so they were calling me like, hey, I'm Dominican too,
- 29:00Speaker 5: can you do me this solid and blah blah blah.
- 29:02Speaker 5: And then I started just you know what, I figured
- 29:04Speaker 5: out a way for a lesser budget to create a
- 29:07Speaker 5: bigger a big image, and then I just focused on
- 29:10Speaker 5: my energy and that and as I saw the decline
- 29:12Speaker 5: in music videos on the American side, I saw that
- 29:16Speaker 5: on the land side they were going up little by little,
- 29:19Speaker 5: and I was like, you know what, most these kids
- 29:21Speaker 5: live in countries where the record sales are not really
- 29:24Speaker 5: being counted or they're selling out arenas, like but you know,
- 29:28Speaker 5: it's like they live in poor countries where their bootlegging
- 29:30Speaker 5: your song, so nobody's going to the store and buying
- 29:32Speaker 5: your song. The tours, but the tours are gigantic, right,
- 29:35Speaker 5: you know.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Fifty thousand seas you told me the other day.
- 29:38Speaker 5: I did a movie on Ken named Maluma for YouTube,
- 29:42Speaker 5: and we shot the main concert of his tour in
- 29:45Speaker 5: Israel in Tel Aviv, thirty thousand people himself, not another acts.
- 29:50Speaker 5: It was no, like fifty guys hit by himself, thirty
- 29:53Speaker 5: thousand people in singing Spanish songs.
- 29:56Speaker 3: That's that's unbelievable.
- 29:57Speaker 1: It is a beautiful mind that and that's how it
- 29:59Speaker 1: is all over.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I mean, I mean these artists, I mean are opening
- 30:03Speaker 4: in the US too. I mean, I mean that crushed
- 30:05Speaker 4: the New Year's Eve. Lalla and I a year ago,
- 30:08Speaker 4: we're in Miami at at the Fountain, Blue Daga, Grutman, had.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Jave, Elvin, Jay Belden.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Right, I mean, it's it's a phenomenon, and I think
- 30:17Speaker 4: it's just amazing that you're on the forefront of them.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Yeah, it's interesting because I think what happened a streamers
- 30:21Speaker 5: have connected everyone is so because it's streaming and because
- 30:25Speaker 5: of YouTube and things like that, now everybody is able
- 30:28Speaker 5: to view the same thing. So the Spanish prob was
- 30:30Speaker 5: always there, except I was the guy going telling people like, yo,
- 30:32Speaker 5: these kids are big, or telling fifty yo, these kids
- 30:35Speaker 5: are big. You should do a song with them. They
- 30:37Speaker 5: sold that Madison Square Garden and he'd be like, didn't
- 30:38Speaker 5: sell out the garden. Then ten minutes later he'd like, Yo,
- 30:41Speaker 5: they sold that Man Guarden. I'm like, yes they did.
- 30:43Speaker 5: And four Knights at Staples and Miami Arena and they're
- 30:46Speaker 5: crushing it, Like I just went and did the Forum.
- 30:49Speaker 5: Four nights at the Forum. Nobody knows about it because
- 30:51Speaker 5: it's like their call audience is wait, who was it?
- 30:54Speaker 5: A group called?
- 30:55Speaker 7: You know how?
- 30:55Speaker 3: I know that because Frankie del got on my buddy.
- 30:58Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, I saw him.
- 31:00Speaker 3: And I'm like, if I miss a concert.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Like I love, I love to go and hang out
- 31:04Speaker 4: and learn, right, And you're a laws always like you
- 31:07Speaker 4: know knows what's up with music.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I'm a little older, so it takes.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Me a little longer. Male, who's my friend? Who's ahead
- 31:13Speaker 5: of that? Group. It's like he returned to go back
- 31:15Speaker 5: on tour with his group, but he did a solo show.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Like he's like the Justin bieber I mean, not the
- 31:19Speaker 5: Justin Timberlake of like the insane of that group.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Okay, right, so he just.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Did MetLife seventy thousand people.
- 31:25Speaker 1: That is insane to me.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Seventy thousand people, this is insane.
- 31:30Speaker 5: He did two nights at Yankee Stadium a couple of years.
- 31:32Speaker 5: I'm on by himself. So what I'm saying is that
- 31:35Speaker 5: the tour potential of the artist. So since I came
- 31:38Speaker 5: up in the world where Tupac and I saw those
- 31:40Speaker 5: guys become movie stars, and I saw the music matched
- 31:43Speaker 5: the content, I decided to focus on my energy because
- 31:46Speaker 5: I'm like, the music was getting so big. In the Landmark,
- 31:48Speaker 5: they have no content, No one movie, not one TV show,
- 31:51Speaker 5: nothing that goes against the level.
- 31:53Speaker 4: You were really there at the beginning. And that's why here,
- 31:55Speaker 4: because I see you all over the world. I see
- 31:57Speaker 4: you on jets Jesse, I see you falling out with
- 31:59Speaker 4: all the artists.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I see a backstage with thirty like what is going on?
- 32:05Speaker 4: So now that's interesting, I mean because I always see
- 32:08Speaker 4: you at the forefront of music and film and television.
- 32:11Speaker 3: I think it's really interesting.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Right now we have him today with his daughter and
- 32:15Speaker 2: he's playing dad and all that stuff kind of goes
- 32:17Speaker 2: out the window and you're just focused on taking care
- 32:19Speaker 2: of the baby.
- 32:20Speaker 5: Yes, that's the most important thing to me right now.
- 32:22Speaker 4: I give a lot of respect because being you know,
- 32:24Speaker 4: because you know you're you're you're a single dad, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 4: and we're girl dads, girl dads.
- 32:29Speaker 3: That's a Jesse and I girl dad.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I love that.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we're like, we're both we like we act like
- 32:34Speaker 3: we try to act like we're a little hard.
- 32:35Speaker 4: It's tough in our business. And then our girls come
- 32:38Speaker 4: around and it's like we we I see us.
- 32:40Speaker 3: We're both like butter. We melt like butter.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we're woz is when it comes to our children.
- 32:46Speaker 4: So Tim's a girl dad too.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Tell us about your part on Soul Plane.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Yeah, so soul Playing. Soul Playing happened because I shot.
- 32:55Speaker 5: I got into this program my Fox Searchlight called a
- 32:58Speaker 5: search Lab, and they take twenty direct and everybody wrote
- 33:01Speaker 5: and directed a short film. Out of the twenty directors,
- 33:04Speaker 5: the three of us made Sundance and I made Sundance
- 33:06Speaker 5: and was like an urban Latin comedy that I shot
- 33:09Speaker 5: in my neighborhood about a young kid who like you know,
- 33:13Speaker 5: sleeps with a girl and then catches something and it's
- 33:15Speaker 5: like it's trip to the clinic. It was super crazy
- 33:18Speaker 5: and funny because they used to be this clinic in
- 33:21Speaker 5: my neighbor and we used to just make fun of
- 33:22Speaker 5: who came in and out of it. So so anyway, yeah,
- 33:26Speaker 5: so so basically when I did that, you know, they
- 33:30Speaker 5: my agents, Charles King and the people Willie Morris started
- 33:33Speaker 5: understanding that I was like good at comedy. I had
- 33:36Speaker 5: an idea that was about like an urban airline, and
- 33:39Speaker 5: then they told me, hey, there's a script at MGM
- 33:41Speaker 5: called soul Plane. You should probably go take a meeting
- 33:43Speaker 5: on it. I took a meeting on it. During that time,
- 33:47Speaker 5: I flew to Brazil with Snoop to do a video
- 33:51Speaker 5: called Beautiful that Chris Robinson director. So we all went
- 33:54Speaker 5: to Beauty onto Brazil together, Me, Snoop, Farrell, Chris Robinson
- 33:58Speaker 5: and when we were there and like you know, weed session,
- 34:01Speaker 5: Snoop said, he turned to me and goes, yo, I
- 34:03Speaker 5: want to fly the plane.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Man. Stop.
- 34:06Speaker 5: He was like I want to fly the plane that story.
- 34:08Speaker 5: I was like, Steve, you know you don't really fly
- 34:10Speaker 5: the plane though, but he was like, yo, man, I
- 34:12Speaker 5: want to fly the plane. And when I went back
- 34:14Speaker 5: to the studio was ready for older guy. They were like, oh,
- 34:16Speaker 5: we don't know if he can be funny. I'm like, yes,
- 34:18Speaker 5: Snoop is the fun that's Amazing'll show you picture from
- 34:21Speaker 5: him online when he looks like like super hard and
- 34:23Speaker 5: I'm like, yeah, Snooper is a thug, but he's also
- 34:26Speaker 5: funny onniest guy. So I brought the studio execus to
- 34:29Speaker 5: Snoop's house to meet him and then that was it
- 34:32Speaker 5: to the church now his house and his family. He
- 34:34Speaker 5: has another place to callse the church, so they got
- 34:36Speaker 5: there's like twenty crips in there. They searched him on
- 34:39Speaker 5: the way and they thought it was the coolest shit ever.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Gym was the coolest. Is amazing was Snoop? After that
- 34:45Speaker 5: they were like, he could be the pilot. Sorry, hold
- 34:48Speaker 5: on and soul Plane. You had a little actor in
- 34:51Speaker 5: that movie. It became somewhat of a superstar named Kevin Hart.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Kevin Hart, and you put Kevin Hart in this movie.
- 34:58Speaker 3: How Big is his role.
- 34:59Speaker 5: He was the star of the Oh, he was a star.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Kevin was the star of the movie. Yeah, it's his movie.
- 35:04Speaker 5: He's a star, he's the lead.
- 35:06Speaker 3: So Jesse, you were in there early.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Yeah, so faverite goddess.
- 35:10Speaker 3: First start, you had everybody.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I wrote it.
- 35:13Speaker 5: I wrote it. You know, I wrote a Spanish I
- 35:15Speaker 5: needed to write some Spanish characters because I felt there
- 35:17Speaker 5: were no lanin characters. So I wrote a couple of
- 35:18Speaker 5: characters in the studio only liked, of course, the Spanish
- 35:22Speaker 5: girl and she and she had one line and when
- 35:26Speaker 5: they were doing the casting, they said, what are you thinking?
- 35:28Speaker 5: And I knew her from Latin America, so I said,
- 35:30Speaker 5: you know, I want like a Sophia guy of type.
- 35:32Speaker 5: And then she walked in the room and I was like, Sophia,
- 35:34Speaker 5: it's one line. I said, you want to do this movie,
- 35:36Speaker 5: I'll write you in the whole thing. And I just
- 35:38Speaker 5: kept rewriting. Wow, became one of the stars.
- 35:41Speaker 3: All right, So hold on, I just want to say something.
- 35:43Speaker 4: First of all, not only have you discovered some of
- 35:45Speaker 4: the biggest artists, some of the biggest musicians, and then
- 35:48Speaker 4: you've made your movie with Kevin Hart and Sofia Vigaro, which,
- 35:51Speaker 4: by the way, what what a visionary for casting and
- 35:55Speaker 4: to be your friend and made movies with you.
- 35:57Speaker 3: I'm very honored to have had you on this podcast
- 36:00Speaker 3: and long it doesn't really know you now you do?
- 36:02Speaker 2: No now, my little starstruck I all that stuff before
- 36:07Speaker 2: you see this is you know, Timbo.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Good job on slacking with the bio.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Tim has become like a real producer backyard. I want
- 36:17Speaker 3: to say this is probably the first.
- 36:18Speaker 4: This is probably one of the first podcasts in the
- 36:20Speaker 4: history of podcast that's been done on a yacht, and
- 36:23Speaker 4: I think it's the.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Best one because.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we're talking about like his days with Tupac and
- 36:28Speaker 2: like how you put Kevin Hart.
- 36:30Speaker 3: We could go on for like three hours so much.
- 36:32Speaker 5: I appreciate you guys having on the podcast and the yacht.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But hi there, Lala and Randall.
