- 0:38Speaker 2: to you by Ticketmaster, the official ticket marketplace of the
- 0:42Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings. Guys, we have comics entertainers on this show.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We like them generally to be a fan of the
- 0:52Speaker 2: other team.
- 0:53Speaker 3: But here's the thing.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's pretty hard to find a comedian who's a fan
- 0:57Speaker 2: of the Houston Texans. Apparently, Luckily for all of you,
- 1:01Speaker 2: fan favorite recurring guest on the show, Blake Wexler, stepped in.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You know him as an Eagles fan, so it was
- 1:08Speaker 2: fun to talk about the loss on Monday night, the
- 1:10Speaker 2: differences in the fan bases, and what's going on with
- 1:13Speaker 2: our team and throughout the NFC. This was a really
- 1:16Speaker 2: fun one and we really appreciate Blake joining the show.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I hope you guys like it.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Recket, Reckett, I mere.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Joining me now to talk all things NFL and honestly
- 1:39Speaker 2: to just sit there and listen to me talk about
- 1:42Speaker 2: how over the moon I am about my favorite football
- 1:46Speaker 2: team right now, Ladies and gentlemen. Recurrent guest on the program,
- 1:50Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles fan NFL Savant, Blake Wexler. You like that,
- 1:56Speaker 2: you like Savant Savant?
- 1:58Speaker 3: I'm your first Savant. Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Jason Savants, I believe was our wide receiver three for
- 2:02Speaker 4: a couple of years place for the University of Michigan. Yeah, No,
- 2:05Speaker 4: I love Savant.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Does your fan base have an obsession with the wide
- 2:10Speaker 2: receiver three?
- 2:11Speaker 4: Of course, I think every does every fan base have
- 2:13Speaker 4: an obsession. It's almost like a backup quarterback, but less important.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Right There's something that I've noticed in Minnesota, and I've
- 2:21Speaker 2: been I think I've narrowed it down because Jalen Naylor
- 2:24Speaker 2: has come out and looks awesome for the Vikings. He
- 2:27Speaker 2: caught an incredible seam route to not seal the game,
- 2:31Speaker 2: but put us in that direction. He's got a touchdown,
- 2:34Speaker 2: he's looked good, he's finally healthy. People are really excited
- 2:37Speaker 2: about him. But the Vikings have always back to like
- 2:41Speaker 2: they were in on kJ Osborne all the way back
- 2:42Speaker 2: to jerryus Wright and on and on and on. There's
- 2:45Speaker 2: just been this obsession and I think it's because of
- 2:48Speaker 2: Jake Reid. The Vikings when Randy Moss came in had
- 2:53Speaker 2: one of the first I'm gonna say big time three
- 2:57Speaker 2: deep receiver. Course everybody thinks Randy Moss and Chris Carter,
- 3:01Speaker 2: but Jake Reid was a badass man. And I think
- 3:03Speaker 2: this like like, if you give a kid a snowmobile
- 3:07Speaker 2: for his ninth birthday, you still have to have nine
- 3:11Speaker 2: more birthday parties before he's out of your house. So
- 3:14Speaker 2: you got and I think that's what happened. You had
- 3:16Speaker 2: Moss and Carter and Jake Reid and everybody just keeps going.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So who's new Jake Reid. But this Jalen Naylor kid
- 3:23Speaker 2: has been incredible at the Gate.
- 3:25Speaker 4: That's incredible for like, yeah, you guys just need more
- 3:28Speaker 4: good wide receivers. I think it's not enough to have
- 3:30Speaker 4: to It's funny. I think we've both gone through franchise.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I forget that when I talk to you, you passed
- 3:37Speaker 2: your team passed on Justin Jefferson. I forget that.
- 3:41Speaker 4: And even though we don't, we don't really talk about it.
- 3:43Speaker 4: We don't talk about it and we don't really have
- 3:45Speaker 4: a need to talk about it.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The funny thing about a Philadelphia Eagles fans psychology is
- 3:51Speaker 2: even though you have Aj Brown and DeVonta Smith, even
- 3:54Speaker 2: though you've had one of the better offenses in the league.
- 3:56Speaker 2: When I said, when I started talking about your like
- 4:00Speaker 2: you got a little bit.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Of like a twitch. Yeah, no, for sure a twitch.
- 4:05Speaker 4: And it's a similar thing too where I still talk
- 4:08Speaker 4: about the quarterback rule where now you need fifty quarterbacks
- 4:12Speaker 4: on your roster. If Heaven forbid, one through five of
- 4:15Speaker 4: your quarterbacks get injured, which is what happened during the
- 4:18Speaker 4: NFC Championship game against the forty nine ers that we
- 4:20Speaker 4: were playing. And you remind me, you go, Blake, that's
- 4:23Speaker 4: a game you want. Why are you complaining about this? Well,
- 4:27Speaker 4: they were complaining about it, and I feel like it
- 4:28Speaker 4: delegitimizes the win.
- 4:30Speaker 3: But you are right. There's a laundry list of vendettas.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Speaking of quarterbacks, everybody is going nuts about Sam Donald,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and I can talk about Sam Donald at length. I
- 4:42Speaker 2: would be thrilled too, But I want to talk about
- 4:44Speaker 2: something that nobody's talking about. That you have a connection
- 4:47Speaker 2: to perhaps the most underrated higher across the NFL this offseason,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I believe, was Josh McCown as quarterback coach for the
- 4:56Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings. Everybody tied it to this idea that we
- 4:58Speaker 2: were going to get Drake may. I think it's beyond that.
- 5:01Speaker 2: If you really and Blake you had him in Philadelphia.
- 5:04Speaker 2: He was the emergency backup during the COVID year, right
- 5:08Speaker 2: oh yeah?
- 5:08Speaker 3: If, oh yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 2: If you deep dive Josh McCown and you learn about
- 5:13Speaker 2: him in Cleveland and Philadelphia, there is this unending list
- 5:18Speaker 2: of stories of supporting young quarterbacks and helping him along.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I think he is perfectly built for today's generation of athletes.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think he's probably gonna wind up being a head coach.
- 5:31Speaker 2: If Sam Darnold continues to perform the way he has,
- 5:35Speaker 2: He's gonna deserve a lot of the credit.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I totally agree, and I think he relates so well
- 5:41Speaker 4: to these quarterbacks because he was kind of just in
- 5:44Speaker 4: the league and I think even when he was playing,
- 5:48Speaker 4: to your point, one of the most interesting jobs, so
- 5:52Speaker 4: forget sports, just jobs in the history of occupation, was
- 5:56Speaker 4: during COVID, we paid Josh McCown to be on the
- 5:59Speaker 4: right and just hang out at his house and join
- 6:03Speaker 4: Zoom meetings for twelve thousand dollars a week. That was
- 6:06Speaker 4: his job and also very special place in my heart
- 6:10Speaker 4: for Josh McCown. This guy is such a gamer that
- 6:14Speaker 4: I believe. So Carson Wentz was the quarterback and we
- 6:16Speaker 4: ended up losing this game in the playoffs seventeen to nine.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I believe it was twenty twenty to the Seahawks. Josh
- 6:22Speaker 4: McCown comes in almost leads us back to victory while
- 6:26Speaker 4: playing on a torn hamstring that came off the bone.
- 6:31Speaker 4: This dude was limping around the field and was still plague.
- 6:35Speaker 4: So if you think a guy you know, not collecting
- 6:38Speaker 4: workmen's comp is not going to be popular in Philadelphia,
- 6:41Speaker 4: you're wrong because he.
- 6:45Speaker 2: We can talk a little bit about your game on Monday,
- 6:47Speaker 2: and you guys getting put down by Kirk no.
- 6:50Speaker 4: We could skip it and talk about Justin Jefferson. Sounds
- 6:53Speaker 4: like a nicer thing to talk about, to be completely
- 6:55Speaker 4: honest at this point.
- 6:56Speaker 2: But before we do that, or you know, maybe we
- 6:59Speaker 2: can avoid it. But when Kirk left, there was so
- 7:02Speaker 2: much time spent baiting him and his value and his
- 7:07Speaker 2: greatness or lack thereof that. I don't know that people.
- 7:13Speaker 2: It was a lot like politics. People had their sides
- 7:16Speaker 2: and no matter what happened, they were going to frame it.
- 7:19Speaker 2: But we've arrived at this place where Donald and Kevin
- 7:24Speaker 2: O'Connell as a partnership seems to have worked so well,
- 7:28Speaker 2: at least through two weeks. It is almost like it
- 7:32Speaker 2: has erased that vibe from our fan base because he
- 7:38Speaker 2: is you can see Kevin O'Connell really, as the children say,
- 7:42Speaker 2: going into his bag a bit, being a little bit
- 7:45Speaker 2: more aggressive. Yeah, you're welcome being more aggressive. And what
- 7:49Speaker 2: I didn't know about Sam Donald because I didn't know
- 7:52Speaker 2: anything about Sam Donald, but I didn't know this dude had.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Everybody says big arm. You hear the term big arm
- 7:59Speaker 2: all the time time, but holy like that throw against
- 8:05Speaker 2: the Niners, I don't it seems I'm not saying it
- 8:08Speaker 2: seems simple, but it seemed like a pitch and catch,
- 8:11Speaker 2: like a deep ball. But anytime you drop back into
- 8:14Speaker 2: your end zone on a play action, there's the inherent
- 8:17Speaker 2: risk of giving up two or six if anything goes wrong.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So to sit in there with that pressure somewhere rattling
- 8:24Speaker 2: around in your thought process, step up and deliver a ball.
- 8:27Speaker 2: And this is for the second time in two weeks,
- 8:29Speaker 2: Blake deliver a ball down the field to Justin Jefferson
- 8:33Speaker 2: in perfect stride. A lot of guys can throw the
- 8:36Speaker 2: ball fifty five yards, but to hit him in perfect stride,
- 8:40Speaker 2: it's been really, really, really fun. I'm sure there are
- 8:44Speaker 2: some difficult moments ahead of us, but at least for
- 8:48Speaker 2: two weeks, everything that's happening in the quarterback room feels
- 8:53Speaker 2: really great and it feels really fun.
- 8:55Speaker 4: It's cool to watch too, because he was obviously an extreme,
- 9:00Speaker 4: highly touted pick, Like was he number.
- 9:02Speaker 2: One or number three? He's three, number three out of.
- 9:04Speaker 4: USC Yeah, in twenty eighteen, right, and he was always
- 9:09Speaker 4: a guy with all the tools. And it's interesting he's
- 9:12Speaker 4: only twenty seven, but his career to this point may
- 9:16Speaker 4: not have gone the way that he wanted it to. Go,
- 9:19Speaker 4: and I think often people either figure it out immediately
- 9:23Speaker 4: or they never figure it out, and he I have
- 9:27Speaker 4: a you know, it's really cool watching his story because
- 9:29Speaker 4: he's someone who it's taking a little bit longer than
- 9:32Speaker 4: I think other players, maybe a little bit longer than
- 9:34Speaker 4: he wants it to, but he's stuck just the strength
- 9:38Speaker 4: of character and resolve and also maybe he's finally found
- 9:42Speaker 4: the right situation also the right quarterback coach like McCown
- 9:47Speaker 4: to help him, you know, like it's it's fun to watch.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Do you think do you think there's this new thing coming?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Because the running back position obviously has changed right running back,
- 9:58Speaker 2: The way they draft, roster, pay use running backs doesn't
- 10:02Speaker 2: look anything like it looked ten to fifteen years ago.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So it's kind of been one of two paths with quarterbacks.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Either you have one or you don't. Either they can
- 10:13Speaker 2: play or they can't, whether you're starting them or not.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Either they're they're gonna get paid or they're not. And
- 10:21Speaker 2: that has led to guys like you have your elite
- 10:24Speaker 2: quarterbacks and then you have like your Mahomes, your Burrow,
- 10:27Speaker 2: your Allen. But then you have your guys that are
- 10:30Speaker 2: in that next tier, your Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott,
- 10:34Speaker 2: all these guys, and they're all getting paid. Jordan Love's
- 10:37Speaker 2: getting paid, and it seemed like there's just no ine
- 10:39Speaker 2: between you either get paid or you don't get paid.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And I wonder, with this happening to Baker Mayfield, I wonder,
- 10:47Speaker 2: with this happening to Gino Smith and now a third time,
- 10:50Speaker 2: if Darnold has a good season, will we enter into
- 10:55Speaker 2: a new NFL universe where there's this third tier. You know,
- 10:59Speaker 2: there's always been the journeyman that you start and move
- 11:02Speaker 2: on from. But Mayfield and Geno are solutions. They're not
- 11:07Speaker 2: stop gaps, and they're at the right price given you know,
- 11:12Speaker 2: the salary cap equation and how it affects quarterbacks. So
- 11:16Speaker 2: I don't know, I'm really fascinated. I'm both fascinated to
- 11:19Speaker 2: see it and Blake and I can't stop thinking about
- 11:22Speaker 2: which former busts that I would want the opportunity because
- 11:29Speaker 2: it's all tied. Here's the crazy thing, it's all tied to.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I feel like I'm writing a verbal manifesto right now.
- 11:37Speaker 4: But this is how you speak. I don't know if
- 11:39Speaker 4: this is news to you. This is how you've always spoken.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It's it's disgusting what a I did not expect us
- 11:46Speaker 2: to be two and oh. It is disgusting what a
- 11:50Speaker 2: two and oh start does to me. It's not it's
- 11:54Speaker 2: not good for my relationship, it's not good for my
- 11:57Speaker 2: free time, it's not good for anything. But I'm I'm
- 12:01Speaker 2: so deep down into this thing right now.
- 12:03Speaker 4: It's pathetic is that you should try a ten in
- 12:06Speaker 4: one start like we had last year and then see
- 12:09Speaker 4: what happens after that.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Not a lot of good stuff.
- 12:12Speaker 4: What if I like, it was very clear that I
- 12:14Speaker 4: haven't watched football in a long time, Like, yeah, you know,
- 12:16Speaker 4: so you got the Trent Dilfers of the world where
- 12:18Speaker 4: they can just come in there last second, and when
- 12:20Speaker 4: you was Super Bowl, it's like, wait, has this guy
- 12:22Speaker 4: been sleep for twenty five years?
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's just a new thing. Cunningham was like a one
- 12:27Speaker 2: year reclamation project in Minnesota. We haven't seen this thing
- 12:31Speaker 2: that's happening. By the way, it's it is very tied
- 12:35Speaker 2: to the McVeigh Shanahan tree. If you do a little sleuthing,
- 12:42Speaker 2: a little football sleuthing. Blake Gino Smith was with Shane
- 12:46Speaker 2: Waldron in Seattle that was his coordinator. Waldron was a
- 12:51Speaker 2: McVeigh guy, and then Baker Mayfield spent his first year
- 12:55Speaker 2: with Dave Canalis, who was under Waldron in Seattle. He's
- 12:58Speaker 2: spending his second year with Liam Cohen when he's really
- 13:02Speaker 2: breaking out right now. Liam Cohen last year was under McVeigh.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell was obviously under McVeigh. It's these young coaches
- 13:10Speaker 2: that prioritize efficiency and game planning and their system that
- 13:16Speaker 2: seemed to be able to do this. So I can't
- 13:20Speaker 2: stop thinking about which bust. For some reason, Akille Smith
- 13:26Speaker 2: always comes into my brain first, just because that's an
- 13:29Speaker 2: all time name. It's a great, great name. I'd love
- 13:33Speaker 2: to see a Johnny Manzell resurrection, just for the reality
- 13:37Speaker 2: show that would probably come with it.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I would.
- 13:39Speaker 4: For me, I'm Mark Sanchez. I think would be a
- 13:42Speaker 4: fantastic one.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Dude. Yeah, battling back from the butt fumble, the butt
- 13:47Speaker 2: fumble redemption, Oh yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 3: That's a fantastic story.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Imagine imagine him leading a team to like twelve and five,
- 13:55Speaker 2: scoring a touchdown in the playoffs and doing a butt
- 13:58Speaker 2: fumble celebration just to give it all back. That would
- 14:01Speaker 2: have been a good one.
- 14:02Speaker 4: The whole time, just in his pants in the back,
- 14:04Speaker 4: there's just a football per butt cheek and he just
- 14:07Speaker 4: takes them both out and throws them into the stands.
- 14:10Speaker 4: I would how can you not cheer for that story?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Tim Couch would be a good one, just because Robert Sofa. Yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 2: there's not a I'm going the other way with names.
- 14:19Speaker 2: There's not a funnier name. Although, god, there's one really
- 14:23Speaker 2: terrible all time name, Blake Bortles. Dude, I'm not convinced
- 14:29Speaker 2: Blake Bortles wasn't a good quarterback. No, I'm not now
- 14:33Speaker 2: and now with what's happening, I'm not convinced Blake Bortles
- 14:36Speaker 2: didn't have all the tools and he just didn't have
- 14:38Speaker 2: the right coach.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I'm totally with you.
- 14:40Speaker 4: You and I have a Blake Bortles theory that we
- 14:42Speaker 4: bring up every year and a half, and it's that
- 14:44Speaker 4: Blake Bortles was not a bad quarterback. Got his name
- 14:48Speaker 4: was just so silly, too hard. You can't be silly
- 14:51Speaker 4: of a name.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Your last name can't rhyme with Jordles or Chortles and
- 14:54Speaker 2: be a pro quarterback. How many If here's the thing,
- 14:58Speaker 2: if you bust it out as a core You're for
- 15:01Speaker 2: sure sitting around right now going I'm for sure blaming
- 15:04Speaker 2: my career on not getting to play during the mcveay
- 15:08Speaker 2: Shanahan Tree era.
- 15:09Speaker 4: If Blake Bortles had a name like Matt Leonard or
- 15:13Speaker 4: Sam Bradford, you know, like some cool name, it would
- 15:16Speaker 4: be like, yeah, he'd still be in the league.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think that's what the name was I was trying
- 15:20Speaker 2: to think of. I think there is a quarterback Jr.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Producer can look this up. I think there was a
- 15:26Speaker 2: quarterback a long time ago for the Detroit Lions named
- 15:30Speaker 2: Chuck Long. Incredible, not a stage name. He's not an
- 15:34Speaker 2: actor playing a character that's sort of based on Joe Namath.
- 15:39Speaker 2: He's a real human being named Chuck Long who wound
- 15:44Speaker 2: up being a professional quarterback.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Like did you see that cigarette commercial starring Chuck Long?
- 15:50Speaker 4: It's like, yeah, what else would he endorse? It's cigarettes?
- 15:55Speaker 2: Did you yep? From Jay? That's that is it's Chuck
- 15:59Speaker 2: longs QB. Yeah, that's the sort of guy who only
- 16:04Speaker 2: sells whiskey and cigarettes. That's it. That's all that guy.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Most of his commercials are him on a horse, like
- 16:10Speaker 2: I'm hey, I'm Chuck Long, quarterback of the Detroit Lions,
- 16:15Speaker 2: and I'm ready to heave that ball down the field.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Like that didn't have anything to do with the product.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Chuck, I'm Chuck Long.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Have you tried revenge getting revenge on someone who's wrong
- 16:27Speaker 4: to you? It's like, I can't buy revenge, Chuck. Who's
- 16:30Speaker 4: paying for this ad space?
- 16:32Speaker 2: Oh? I just I just love it a whole lot.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Where So let's talk a little bit about the NFC.
- 16:40Speaker 2: The Vikings fan base I think split up in your
- 16:45Speaker 2: Monday Night loss. I think when Kirk threw short of
- 16:49Speaker 2: the sticks, half the state rejoiced on third down and
- 16:54Speaker 2: they're like, there it is. And then when he drove
- 17:00Speaker 2: down the field and he beat the Eagles and you
- 17:02Speaker 2: guys lost, the other half of the state, it was like,
- 17:05Speaker 2: there it is. There was a there was a real,
- 17:08Speaker 2: like a really divided fan reaction to who people were
- 17:14Speaker 2: rooting more against.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's so so it's really really funny that
- 17:18Speaker 4: how you bring this up, because again, I think one
- 17:20Speaker 4: of the most interesting things about this show is that
- 17:22Speaker 4: you get the perspective of other fan bases and it's
- 17:26Speaker 4: almost exactly like your own, except you know, different players,
- 17:31Speaker 4: different names, different fans, and this is the first time I've.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Never thrown a battery at a child.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you know, I think you need to move
- 17:39Speaker 4: on from things that happened in the past.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Like I don't think it's healthy to dwell.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So well, that's what you have to do with court cases,
- 17:46Speaker 2: or you'd be depressed all the time.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and I know, and I'm a happy guy.
- 17:53Speaker 4: But it's funny that you brought up Kirk and the
- 17:55Speaker 4: Falcons because I don't even remember playing them.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Because when we.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Talk about that loss, it's all our fault, So Kirk
- 18:04Speaker 4: has nothing to do with it. It's he was a
- 18:06Speaker 4: nameless face that happened to be in a blank jersey.
- 18:11Speaker 4: It was the Eagles defense that led us down. It
- 18:15Speaker 4: was the Eagles offense, it was the coaches, it was
- 18:18Speaker 4: all this stuff. That's how the fan base is interpreting
- 18:20Speaker 4: this loss. Kirk just it could have been anyone. It
- 18:23Speaker 4: could have been Chuck Long, you know, who was defeating us.
- 18:26Speaker 4: No matter who was in that uniform. In Eagles fans's
- 18:30Speaker 4: you know, heads, it was we were gonna lose that
- 18:32Speaker 4: game because that's what we've been doing.
- 18:35Speaker 3: So in terms of Kirk, Kirk was not Kirk was Kirk.
- 18:39Speaker 4: You know, he ended up winning, but he didn't do
- 18:42Speaker 4: anything special. I don't think he's the reason why they won,
- 18:46Speaker 4: just like he wouldn't have been the reason why they lost.
- 18:49Speaker 4: He just happened to be a guy playing for the team.
- 18:54Speaker 2: What what was the vibe like in that stadium when
- 18:58Speaker 2: Sakuon dropped the paths? Because I can tell you when
- 19:03Speaker 2: Aaron Jones fumbled going into the goal line. I'm I
- 19:08Speaker 2: was not in Minnesota Sunday, and from states away, I
- 19:12Speaker 2: could hear the state go no like I could feel them.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I could feel them tightening up in the oh my gosh,
- 19:22Speaker 2: here we go again.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Way.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It is the fact that the entire Philly fan base is,
- 19:29Speaker 2: you know, their personalities based off a restaurant bar worker
- 19:33Speaker 2: who somehow got on the team. Does that not allow
- 19:36Speaker 2: you to worry about those sort of moments? Do you
- 19:39Speaker 2: guys just pop pali your way through it? Or was
- 19:43Speaker 2: the stadium concerned in that marment?
- 19:45Speaker 4: So I think you're looking for the phrase of like
- 19:46Speaker 4: blue collar hard worker, you know, the backbone of this
- 19:49Speaker 4: country might be the phrase that you're thinking of. But
- 19:51Speaker 4: you know that's why I'm here to try to clarify
- 19:53Speaker 4: these things for you, so you know, not everything is
- 19:55Speaker 4: a Mickey Mouse character of a cultures, but as much
- 20:00Speaker 4: as we like to pretend that it is. So it's interesting,
- 20:03Speaker 4: Saquan may have been the only guy on the field
- 20:05Speaker 4: that we would have had this like a non like matriolic,
- 20:09Speaker 4: venomous reaction to a mistake like that, because he has
- 20:12Speaker 4: been so good where he was a contract where it
- 20:17Speaker 4: was uncharacteristic of the Eagles and honestly any NFL team
- 20:20Speaker 4: to give a running back that amount of money, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 4: twelve plus million a year. And he also, you have
- 20:28Speaker 4: to think, is a Penn State player, so Philly doesn't
- 20:32Speaker 4: is not a college football city, so you know, Penn
- 20:36Speaker 4: State's like three four hours away, but that's kind of
- 20:39Speaker 4: the football school. So he had over one hundred yards
- 20:42Speaker 4: in the first game, won us that first game with
- 20:44Speaker 4: three touchdowns, most touchdowns in a debut I think since
- 20:47Speaker 4: Terrell Owens and this game. He was playing incredibly well too,
- 20:51Speaker 4: So when he dropped that ball to get us past
- 20:53Speaker 4: the sticks, which would have allowed us to run out
- 20:55Speaker 4: the clock and win or score, everyone was just in
- 20:58Speaker 4: kind of shock and looking for someone else to blame
- 21:03Speaker 4: in that situation where like, we can't blame Saquon, this
- 21:06Speaker 4: is the only positive thing that's happening for us right now.
- 21:09Speaker 4: We cannot blame him. Who whose fault is this? Because
- 21:13Speaker 4: it can't be his?
- 21:15Speaker 3: It was. It was a huge bummer.
- 21:16Speaker 2: The Vikings take on the Houston Texans on Sunday. I
- 21:21Speaker 2: think there are very few people who thought they would
- 21:23Speaker 2: be too and zero. I think the team is displaying
- 21:26Speaker 2: an interesting amount of confidence. And I've always I've always
- 21:30Speaker 2: thought despite how the fans and media perceive football and
- 21:39Speaker 2: football team's journey and and and how they end up
- 21:43Speaker 2: being good or not good as a team, I tend
- 21:46Speaker 2: to think guys who play no pretty quickly, especially if
- 21:51Speaker 2: they're veterans, if you have an older team, I don't
- 21:54Speaker 2: think they go to like they get to week one
- 21:56Speaker 2: and go, huh, we are bad. I think they knew
- 21:59Speaker 2: it right. So I think the niners wins surprised a
- 22:04Speaker 2: lot of people, and even surprised a lot of Viking fans.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I do not think it surprised the locker room. That
- 22:13Speaker 2: being said, I think the Houston Texans are a whole
- 22:17Speaker 2: different sort of challenge. I don't think they're gonna mess
- 22:21Speaker 2: around I don't think they're gonna dink and dunk. I
- 22:24Speaker 2: don't think they're gonna control the game. I think they're
- 22:26Speaker 2: gonna look at how good this defense has been and
- 22:28Speaker 2: they're gonna go screw it. I'm heaving the ball like
- 22:33Speaker 2: six seven play drives, not fourteen to fifteen play drives.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I think they're gonna come out and be willing to
- 22:40Speaker 2: engage in a shootout and see if we can keep up.
- 22:43Speaker 2: It is a pretty interesting test for a team that
- 22:47Speaker 2: no one believed would have this opportunity this early.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's interesting, and obviously it's early in the season,
- 22:54Speaker 4: but to me, this game will tell us a lot
- 22:57Speaker 4: about the forty nine ers, also because the forty nine
- 23:01Speaker 4: ers is everybody's pick, or it was everybody's pick to
- 23:04Speaker 4: come out of the NFC.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Is this Are you doing the thing where you make
- 23:07Speaker 2: this like no matter what I talk about, you bring
- 23:10Speaker 2: up somebody who cheated on you, like a girlfriend who
- 23:13Speaker 2: cheated on you. Is is that what's happening here?
- 23:15Speaker 3: Well, what I was trying to say, no, no, So
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'm not doing that at all.
- 23:18Speaker 4: What I'm trying to say is you're gonna like, you
- 23:19Speaker 4: know the fact that you were able to overcome the
- 23:21Speaker 4: forty nine ers seventy five quarterbacks, makes you in a
- 23:25Speaker 4: good position to who knows how many quarterbacks Houston's gonna
- 23:28Speaker 4: bring to the table. No, I do think that it's
- 23:32Speaker 4: a similar situation in that, like, you know, the weapons
- 23:36Speaker 4: that the skill position weapons that Houston has are kind
- 23:40Speaker 4: of similar to that of probably a letter grade down
- 23:46Speaker 4: from that of the forty nine ers.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I think you have a better quarterback in my.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Opinion, and better quarterback, maybe more speed. I don't know.
- 23:53Speaker 2: The Stefan Diggs thing is crazy. What I'm honestly most
- 23:57Speaker 2: curious about is how Stefan Diggs will be received like
- 24:03Speaker 2: this and as a as an absolute lunatic who disrespects
- 24:08Speaker 2: anyone who dares put on a different jersey, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 2: you and your city. I imagine if he went back
- 24:15Speaker 2: to Philly, go poorly. I'm really hoping that the Viking
- 24:18Speaker 2: fans greet him with a bunch of love, regardless of
- 24:22Speaker 2: his exit, regardless of anything else. He is responsible for, arguably,
- 24:27Speaker 2: if not inarguably is that a word. Yeah, he is
- 24:32Speaker 2: responsible for the greatest moment in the franchise's history. From
- 24:36Speaker 2: an excitement standpoint, From an iconic standpoint. When they write
- 24:40Speaker 2: the book on the greatest plays that have ever happened
- 24:42Speaker 2: in NFL history, no matter how many years from now
- 24:45Speaker 2: it will be, that is going to be right up
- 24:47Speaker 2: at the tippy top of the list. It's so I
- 24:51Speaker 2: hope he gets the love he deserves, and then I
- 24:53Speaker 2: hope he gets one catch for eleven yards and fumbles
- 24:58Speaker 2: a pass into a defender's hand.
- 25:00Speaker 4: This is how I would want from Philadelphia pans, where
- 25:03Speaker 4: it's like, I don't let's.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Not have any bad pr here. Let's just have them
- 25:07Speaker 3: come out.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Don't give away anything that can be thrown, don't give
- 25:12Speaker 4: anything that can amplify a human's voice.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Louder than it should be.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Let the player come out, get mute all the microphones,
- 25:21Speaker 4: give them an ovation or whatever.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Play a little highlight reel.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Because here's the thing with the that's a great point
- 25:27Speaker 4: with the iconic play, where if you put that play
- 25:30Speaker 4: up on the Megas screen, you know, up on the
- 25:32Speaker 4: Titan tron, the whole crowd's going to go nuts like that.
- 25:36Speaker 4: I'm getting goosebumps thinking about that play, and I'm not
- 25:38Speaker 4: even a Minnesota fan. So I feel like that's the
- 25:42Speaker 4: change is there?
- 25:43Speaker 2: Anything that Nick Foles could do, like literally, like when
- 25:46Speaker 2: he left, is there anything he could have done to
- 25:49Speaker 2: hurt I mean that's a different level because it's a
- 25:51Speaker 2: Super Bowl, right. I feel like Nick Foles could marry
- 25:55Speaker 2: your wife and set your house on fire and you'd
- 25:58Speaker 2: still You'd be like, I gotta get in the burning
- 26:00Speaker 2: house and.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Save his jersey.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is not an interesting answer, but the
- 26:06Speaker 4: answer is no, there's nothing wrong that he can do.
- 26:09Speaker 4: I'm trying to think of another similar thing where McNabb
- 26:14Speaker 4: might be an interesting one. Wherefore before we got the
- 26:18Speaker 4: Super Bowl, because McNabb is the best quarterback the Eagles
- 26:22Speaker 4: have ever had he left and even better than people
- 26:26Speaker 4: you know. It might it might sound surprising because obviously
- 26:29Speaker 4: he played for the Vikings too, But McNabb had a
- 26:31Speaker 4: much better career for the Eagles than Randall Cunningham did,
- 26:34Speaker 4: and he was better than Ron Jaworski. He was better
- 26:37Speaker 4: than you know everyone. But who has a statue outside
- 26:40Speaker 4: the stadium. It's Nick Foles. So nick Foles is his
- 26:43Speaker 4: own weird thing. But when McNabb came back, it was
- 26:47Speaker 4: mixed emotions and mixed reception because he didn't have that
- 26:51Speaker 4: one iconic moment. He just had overall a great career.
- 26:55Speaker 4: It would be as if Iverson's another one were like
- 26:58Speaker 4: if Iverson had somehow join the Knicks or something and
- 27:03Speaker 4: had a great career, but he was so iconic for us.
- 27:06Speaker 4: If they had laid his step over of Tyron Lou
- 27:10Speaker 4: or something, the whole crowd would still go nuts. So yeah,
- 27:13Speaker 4: it's Philly's interesting where it's the personality and how they
- 27:18Speaker 4: conducted themselves. I'm sure that's the same thing with any
- 27:20Speaker 4: sports city. It's not just specific Afhilly.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Well, it's not the same. It's there are some things
- 27:23Speaker 2: specific to Philly. But I can't stop thinking about how
- 27:27Speaker 2: that is funny that they built Nick Foles a statue.
- 27:30Speaker 2: It makes sense. But if the Vikings won a Super Bowl,
- 27:34Speaker 2: I don't even know if they make enough medal. I
- 27:39Speaker 2: don't know if anybody's mind enough metal for the amount
- 27:41Speaker 2: they'd be like, should we what about the security guard
- 27:44Speaker 2: who worked outside the stadium? Should we get him a statue?
- 27:46Speaker 2: Like that's a super interesting thing. With the Donald thing,
- 27:49Speaker 2: I think I don't want to get ahead of ourselves here.
- 27:52Speaker 4: You no no predict what's your prediction side, what's gonna
- 27:55Speaker 4: happen two games into the season. But what where's Sam
- 27:59Speaker 4: Donald's statue? You're gonna go outside of your stadium?
- 28:07Speaker 2: Listen to me, I don't. This is all gravy for me.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I went into this season and my brain was, they
- 28:14Speaker 2: got seventy five million bucks in cap room next year.
- 28:17Speaker 2: If Jordan Addison, Dallas Turner, and Ivan Pace are all
- 28:21Speaker 2: big time guys, we're about to have a really fun
- 28:24Speaker 2: three or four years at least. And so I was
- 28:28Speaker 2: not connected to the record. Now you sucker me in.
- 28:35Speaker 2: I'm getting a little connected to the record. So I
- 28:37Speaker 2: like this team, could they could go thirteen and four
- 28:40Speaker 2: or they could go, you know, six and eleven. I'm
- 28:43Speaker 2: not necessarily connected to that. I'm saying in a hypothetical
- 28:46Speaker 2: world where something crazy happens and this season takes off
- 28:50Speaker 2: like no one imagined Nick Foles would lead the Philadelphia
- 28:55Speaker 2: Eagles to a Super Bowl Absolutely no one. I can
- 28:58Speaker 2: tell you if, whether Sam Donald or anyone else, But
- 29:01Speaker 2: let's talk about Donald because he's in the position. If
- 29:03Speaker 2: somehow some miracle run happened and the Vikings went from
- 29:08Speaker 2: cellar dweller predictions across the media to Super Bowl champions.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I don't think you could count the amount of statues.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I think there would be people that this fan base
- 29:19Speaker 2: is so desperate for a winner of any type in
- 29:21Speaker 2: any sport, but specifically the Vikings. I think there would
- 29:25Speaker 2: be people who had Sam Donald's statues in their front lawns.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I think there would be Sam Donald elementary schools. I
- 29:33Speaker 2: think I think that's a guy who you just you live.
- 29:36Speaker 2: You can't leave the state anymore. You're too famous. You're
- 29:40Speaker 2: more important in Minnesota than David Hasselhoff ever was in Germany.
- 29:45Speaker 4: No, and shout out to Germany, and I I also
- 29:49Speaker 4: know I do agree. Yeah, it's it's unquantifiable, you know,
- 29:53Speaker 4: like the Sam Donald thing is because he is that
- 29:56Speaker 4: same underdog story too, like or or even maybe more accurately,
- 30:01Speaker 4: Nick Mullins or Brett Rippion somehow leads you guys to
- 30:05Speaker 4: a super Bowl. You know, it's such a crazy story,
- 30:10Speaker 4: Like just like you.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Guys, it took you so long to win a super Bowl.
- 30:12Speaker 2: It feels like when they finally win one, you won't
- 30:15Speaker 2: get to do it through like and then we drafted
- 30:17Speaker 2: our future Hall of Famer and he led us to
- 30:20Speaker 2: a super Bowl. It feels to me that it's gonna
- 30:23Speaker 2: be like and then we found this guy throwing footballs
- 30:28Speaker 2: to a janitor behind the stadium, and we gave him
- 30:31Speaker 2: like it to break the Vikings Super Bowl curse. It
- 30:35Speaker 2: almost seems like it's gonna take something weird and herculean
- 30:38Speaker 2: that you didn't expect that Nick Foles year, it was
- 30:42Speaker 2: Case Keenum. There's no one on the planet who's like
- 30:45Speaker 2: Case Keenum's almost gonna win a super Bowl and he
- 30:47Speaker 2: almost Dude, imagine if he didn't won a super Bowl
- 30:51Speaker 2: in your home stadium.
- 30:53Speaker 3: That's it would have imploded. Yeah, that is a.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Level of I think there are people who still have
- 30:58Speaker 2: are still taking pete.
- 31:01Speaker 4: I've taken a life pto from that super Bowl where
- 31:05Speaker 4: I don't really have goals anymore. I used to be
- 31:08Speaker 4: really goal oriented and ambitious. But I'm like, so I
- 31:12Speaker 4: did I did that. I won a super Bowl and
- 31:16Speaker 4: it's it's still daily the best thing in the entire world.
- 31:20Speaker 4: And I'm not being funny here, Like the amount that
- 31:24Speaker 4: that is elevated my general mood and happiness on a
- 31:27Speaker 4: day to day basis is by I'm trying to give
- 31:30Speaker 4: you a real number here. I'm not going to exaggerate
- 31:32Speaker 4: at all thirty five to forty five percent on a
- 31:36Speaker 4: daily basis. I'm happier from a thing that happened in
- 31:40Speaker 4: twenty eighteen. That's it's forty one to thirty three. It's truly,
- 31:46Speaker 4: and that weight, it's it's horrible the weight. Probably if
- 31:51Speaker 4: the amount of years that this is added to my life,
- 31:52Speaker 4: I don't know, like three years of happiness. The amount
- 31:55Speaker 4: of years that watching Philadelphia sports in general have taken
- 31:58Speaker 4: away from my life.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Probably thirty one years.
- 32:00Speaker 4: So it's not really you know, it's a net negative
- 32:03Speaker 4: watching Philly's sports, But you're right if you got when
- 32:06Speaker 4: you get it, whether it's a Sam Darnold, whether it's
- 32:10Speaker 4: McCarthy who, whether it's a trade, Uh, there's gonna be
- 32:14Speaker 4: a statue because the longer you wait for a title.
- 32:16Speaker 2: The bigger the statue gets.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Exactly, it's gonna be the half the stadium is going
- 32:22Speaker 4: to be made out of the statue, you know, like
- 32:24Speaker 4: his head, Yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 2: His statue.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 2: What I'm over the tush push. It's just become boring.
- 32:31Speaker 2: It's not even like I dislike it. It's so boring,
- 32:36Speaker 2: like defend it, please, it's so unruly boring. I care
- 32:42Speaker 2: about it. So little. Please make it illegal, just to
- 32:47Speaker 2: bring interest back to fourth and third downs.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 32:51Speaker 4: It's not our faultet that it's boring. It's because so
- 32:53Speaker 4: much hype was built around it by people who have
- 32:56Speaker 4: nothing interesting to say and who want to ruin our
- 32:59Speaker 4: our fourth down. Can versions that it became boring. So
- 33:03Speaker 4: what the tush push is is a quarterback sneak. That's
- 33:07Speaker 4: all it is. DeVante Smith weighs one hundred and fourteen pounds. Okay,
- 33:11Speaker 4: the fact that he is pushing Jalen Hurts isn't really
- 33:14Speaker 4: making up three yards. Jalen Hurts. His ability to his
- 33:18Speaker 4: leg strength is what makes the playwork. It wasn't even
- 33:22Speaker 4: Jason Kelsey. It's timing and how strong our quarterback's legs are.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Remember like Tom.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Brady had the craziest QB sneak percentage for years and
- 33:33Speaker 4: he just fell forward. Like there's just something. It's a
- 33:37Speaker 4: quarterback thing and it's called you know, I think it
- 33:39Speaker 4: has so much hype because that is a funny name,
- 33:41Speaker 4: the tush push, and then they ruin that they call
- 33:43Speaker 4: it the brotherly shove.
- 33:46Speaker 2: God, you're uncreative. City full.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Joe, eat a cheese curd. Go dip it. Go dip
- 33:55Speaker 4: your cheese curd and ranch by the lake.
- 33:58Speaker 2: We I'll definitely do it by the like. And for
- 34:01Speaker 2: the people who are listening from Philadelphia, that's a large
- 34:03Speaker 2: body of water, and water is something that people use
- 34:07Speaker 2: to clean themselves.
- 34:09Speaker 4: But we have those outside our homes. When the fire
- 34:11Speaker 4: extinguisher breaks, we have lakes.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Let's close on this. So the Detroit loses, by the way,
- 34:18Speaker 2: the Bucks that I'm gonna answer my ound question before
- 34:21Speaker 2: I even ask it. But as you're looking around the NFC,
- 34:24Speaker 2: you know there's some teams that are like, oh, are
- 34:26Speaker 2: the Cardinals good? The Lions lose one? You know, the
- 34:30Speaker 2: Bucks are fascinating to me. I think they're scary good.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I think the Baker thing is really interesting. I don't
- 34:37Speaker 2: know how we haven't recognized that Chris Godwin and Mike
- 34:41Speaker 2: Evans are as good as they are. I mean, maybe
- 34:43Speaker 2: that's just me, but it feels like they've been heavily overlooked.
- 34:46Speaker 2: But as you a team who thinks you have Super
- 34:49Speaker 2: Bowl aspirations, that's a thing that you believe. Is there
- 34:53Speaker 2: anyone that genuinely worries you?
- 34:55Speaker 3: The Philadelphia Eagles terrify me. The most.
- 34:57Speaker 4: I would say they scare me more than any other team.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I would say, honestly, it's so early. Detroit is a
- 35:07Speaker 4: team that I think will get its legs underneath itself.
- 35:10Speaker 4: And I really do think the Niners just have so
- 35:12Speaker 4: much talent. Honestly, watching watching Dallas in that first game,
- 35:17Speaker 4: that win was so big over Cleveland, and then the
- 35:22Speaker 4: way they.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Just beautiful, you know, beautiful. Yeah, it was gorgeous, really
- 35:27Speaker 2: really beautiful.
- 35:28Speaker 4: If I was an impartial observer, which I couldn't, that's
- 35:31Speaker 4: going to be the name of my next album. I
- 35:33Speaker 4: would say it's been an interesting two weeks because a
- 35:36Speaker 4: lot of these teams that everybody thought was unassailable have
- 35:39Speaker 4: lost at least one game.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Bucks look good.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And the Bucks look good. Yeah, Okay, buddy, Well I
- 35:46Speaker 2: I appreciate you doing it.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you for being here.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Thank you for stepping in on a week where it
