- 0:40Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Tuesday. This portion of the program
- 0:44Speaker 1: is brought to you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. We
- 0:48Speaker 1: have a jam packed Tuesday edition today, so you're here
- 0:55Speaker 1: on a good day. This may turn out to be
- 0:57Speaker 1: the best show of the week. You know, we strive
- 1:01Speaker 1: to have one a week that's decent, listenable. By golly,
- 1:07Speaker 1: this might be it. So much so we've had to
- 1:10Speaker 1: bump a couple of things We're gonna have postgame react
- 1:16Speaker 1: from Aggie Baseball. We've got a high school report. We
- 1:21Speaker 1: have got a Scott Tribally siding. He is going to
- 1:25Speaker 1: be with us later in this hour to talk tennis.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He has our professional tennis correspondent. We're going to talk
- 1:33Speaker 1: about the French Open. Some of you didn't know what
- 1:35Speaker 1: was going on right now. This is why Scott Tribally
- 1:39Speaker 1: is with us to pronounce all of the semi finalists
- 1:42Speaker 1: that are left in the men's and women's bracket. He
- 1:46Speaker 1: will join us. We have a interview with Jackie Cheryl
- 1:52Speaker 1: that our new intern Riley has done, and we have
- 1:57Speaker 1: a Mallory So all that ahead in the show. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: think yesterday I told you that Fox Sports football analyst
- 2:09Speaker 1: Joel Klatt was going to be on. We have bumped
- 2:13Speaker 1: him to tomorrow. He had a podcast recently that is
- 2:18Speaker 1: going to stir up some things. That's what he does. Actually,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I like him. We'll talk more about that tomorrow. Scott
- 2:28Speaker 1: Clandennon will be tomorrow. We have got a outdoor edition
- 2:34Speaker 1: on Thursday to Clark Eisenhower. Outdoor Edition, our final high
- 2:38Speaker 1: school report of the spring from Caleb and a couple
- 2:45Speaker 1: of other things that we're going to talk about. Let's
- 2:50Speaker 1: see also Friday, Ryan is in and Kirk Bulls, which
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think will be our final Kirk Bulls of the
- 3:00Speaker 1: spring slash summer. Kirk will still be working because the
- 3:06Speaker 1: Longhorns are in a super regional this coming weekend, but
- 3:13Speaker 1: that doesn't mean he has to be working for us.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We'll give him some time off. The story today is
- 3:19Speaker 1: not a huge surprise. Pitching coach Jason Kelly is out.
- 3:26Speaker 1: He's been there the last two years. This comes the
- 3:30Speaker 1: night after the Aggie's lost to in a row at home,
- 3:35Speaker 1: gave up twenty one runs to USC and kept Clayton
- 3:43Speaker 1: fresh Corn in the game too long. I think we'll
- 3:46Speaker 1: talk about this some more. I thought it was at
- 3:50Speaker 1: least two batters too long. I understand that it's always
- 3:54Speaker 1: easier after the fact to make these decisions. It was
- 3:58Speaker 1: pretty obvious that he would is done and that did
- 4:03Speaker 1: not work well. Kelly is I don't want to say
- 4:08Speaker 1: this scapegoat. His numbers here aren't great. Last year four
- 4:16Speaker 1: point three t team e er, the two forty eight
- 4:20Speaker 1: batting average and sixty one homers against. This year five
- 4:25Speaker 1: point two four er with a two seventy three team
- 4:31Speaker 1: batting average ninety homers. Again, some of that is certainly
- 4:38Speaker 1: not his fault. Injuries, of course, to their who the
- 4:44Speaker 1: pitcher who turned out to be their best pitcher of
- 4:46Speaker 1: the year, Aige Sims late in the season. That was
- 4:49Speaker 1: a big blow, a big blow for this weekend for sure.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Caleb Longlay, the recruiting coordinator, had resigned last January, had
- 5:02Speaker 1: not been replaced, so we'll see how and Kelly's contract,
- 5:06Speaker 1: by the way, ended, so we will see Michael Early's
- 5:13Speaker 1: next move. Now for the Aggies, it was seven to
- 5:18Speaker 1: one last night. Of course, it was two to one
- 5:22Speaker 1: in the seventh inning when Augie Lopez hit a three
- 5:26Speaker 1: run Jimmy Jack. We're going to hear from him and
- 5:30Speaker 1: the rest of the Trojans coming up here in just
- 5:33Speaker 1: a little bit. Clayton fresh Corn was really good, four
- 5:38Speaker 1: scoreless innings, gave up two in the fifth through six
- 5:45Speaker 1: and two thirds, which again was about two thirds of
- 5:48Speaker 1: an inning too many should have been out after six.
- 5:52Speaker 1: He was Clayton fresh Corn, who was the best pitcher
- 5:57Speaker 1: this year for A and M. And we talked about
- 5:59Speaker 1: the fact that he'd come out of the bullpen all
- 6:01Speaker 1: year twenty six appearances, but that basically Early had no
- 6:08Speaker 1: choice but to start him. It worked out terrifically. He
- 6:11Speaker 1: gave his team every chance to win. Last night. It
- 6:15Speaker 1: was a two to one game through six innings. A
- 6:21Speaker 1: two to one game. Some of the blame has to
- 6:26Speaker 1: go on the hitters, not just the pitchers, and the
- 6:32Speaker 1: decision that was made Grant Govell was terrific. He had
- 6:39Speaker 1: pitched Friday. He threw sixty four more pitches and four innings,
- 6:45Speaker 1: allowed just three hits and one earned run. Chase Harrold
- 6:49Speaker 1: comes in, he does not allow anything and like I said,
- 6:57Speaker 1: one run that's going to get you beat most days
- 7:01Speaker 1: in college baseball. So it's not certainly wasn't all on
- 7:07Speaker 1: the pitching staff. ADM season's over forty one and sixteen
- 7:12Speaker 1: finished third in the league. They were picked thirteenth and
- 7:17Speaker 1: they're going to rebuild. They are losing a lot. Gavin
- 7:25Speaker 1: Grohofec and Caden Serell two hundred and seventy two games
- 7:32Speaker 1: as Aggie's they combined, and this is from Ryan Broneger
- 7:36Speaker 1: at techsacs for three hundred and twenty seven hits, three
- 7:39Speaker 1: hundred runs, sixty six doubles, ten triples, ninety three home
- 7:44Speaker 1: runs at two hundred and ninety seven RBI in their careers.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Terrific careers, hard to replace. I will maintain still that
- 7:56Speaker 1: I think the top three in the A and M lineup,
- 8:00Speaker 1: we're probably the best top three in America. I don't
- 8:05Speaker 1: think you get better than Grohovac, Cerell and a Coopian.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But between them last night they were one for eleven
- 8:15Speaker 1: with one walk and no runs batt in and that
- 8:21Speaker 1: cannot happen from the top of the lineup. That's driven
- 8:25Speaker 1: your team all year long. Like I said, I don't
- 8:29Speaker 1: think it was all pitching. And again fresh Corn gave
- 8:33Speaker 1: his team every opportunity to win. Certainly a mistake leaving
- 8:40Speaker 1: him in into the sixth inning. All right, let's move on.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Times set. Teams set for the Super Regionals beginning Friday,
- 8:53Speaker 1: West Virginia hosting cal Poly. North Carolina will host USC
- 8:59Speaker 1: Friday afternoon on ESPN two, Troy will host Little Rock,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and in the evening on ESPN two, Auburn will host
- 9:12Speaker 1: Ole Miss an All SEC event. Let me see two,
- 9:18Speaker 1: there's another All SEC event, and that's Georgia hosting Mississippi State.
- 9:25Speaker 1: That's four, Oklahoma's five. Texas is six Alabama is seven.
- 9:30Speaker 1: That's how many teams made the final sixteen to seven
- 9:35Speaker 1: SEC teams. Saturday, Georgia host Mississippi State, Little Rock host Troy,
- 9:47Speaker 1: Kansas host Oklahoma, Texas host Oregon Saturday evening, and Alabama
- 9:57Speaker 1: hosts Saint John's also Saturday evening. So that is how
- 10:03Speaker 1: the regionals line up. Rangers Cardinals tonight at Bush Stadium.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Last night, the Rangers killed the Cardinals two to one.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Jacob de gram five scoreless innings would have been at
- 10:18Speaker 1: least six, but his defense couldn't catch the ball. Fortunately,
- 10:21Speaker 1: they were playing the Cardinals and the Rangers now won
- 10:25Speaker 1: four to row. Big game, Nate A. Valdi from Alvin,
- 10:28Speaker 1: Texas on the mound tonight for the Rangers, the Astros
- 10:34Speaker 1: beginning a series with the Pirates. Burrows on the mound
- 10:38Speaker 1: for the Houstons. You can hear that broadcast beginning at
- 10:42Speaker 1: six forty here on the Zone. The Stanley Cup Finals tonight. Finally,
- 10:51Speaker 1: the Hurricanes of Carolina hosting the Vegas Golden Nights. That
- 10:58Speaker 1: is tonight at seven o'clock on ABC, the best of seven.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Zach Warnsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets has won the
- 11:10Speaker 1: Norris Trophy given every year to the NHL's best defenseman.
- 11:15Speaker 1: He beat finalist Cale mccarr of the Avalanche Rasmus Stalin
- 11:19Speaker 1: of the Dolling of the Sabers. Mccarr won last year.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's won twice before. Warnsky had twenty two goals, fifty
- 11:30Speaker 1: nine assists, eighty one points, the second highest time played
- 11:38Speaker 1: in the NHL over twenty six and a half minutes
- 11:42Speaker 1: per game, second in points by defenseman, third in goals.
- 11:48Speaker 1: He was pretty good and he is your Norris Trophy
- 11:51Speaker 1: winner this year in the NHL. Okay, that'll catch up
- 11:57Speaker 1: a little bit about what is happening around the world.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Oh sports. The Memorial Tournament starts in Doublin, Ohio tomorrow.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Other Jack Nicholas Tournament in golf. Thought i'd just throw
- 12:10Speaker 1: that in for free. No, it doesn't. It starts on Thursday.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Today's Tuesday. I'm already ahead a day, darn it. I've
- 12:19Speaker 1: got more days to work. But like I said, this
- 12:21Speaker 1: may be the best show of the week, so you
- 12:24Speaker 1: need to stay tuned. We're going to hear from the
- 12:27Speaker 1: Trojans and all hats off to them to come into
- 12:33Speaker 1: Olsenfield and then that environment and quiet the crowd two
- 12:36Speaker 1: nights in a row. It scored twenty one runs. And yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: they scored a lot of runs. And A and M's
- 12:43Speaker 1: staff has given up its share, but man, that pitching
- 12:46Speaker 1: staff held A and M down. Very impressive what they
- 12:51Speaker 1: did in two games. This portion of the program is
- 12:54Speaker 1: brought to you by and Co Insurance.
- 12:57Speaker 3: A co Insurance is now a part of Hub International,
- 13:01Speaker 3: bringing you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise.
- 13:04Speaker 3: While our name has changed, we're still the same local
- 13:07Speaker 3: team you know and trust, now with even more to
- 13:09Speaker 3: offer from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits.
- 13:13Speaker 3: We're still committed to protecting what matters most with the
- 13:16Speaker 3: personalized service you expect now with the strength of Hub
- 13:19Speaker 3: International behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team,
- 13:23Speaker 3: and co Insurance a Hub International company, so you're ready
- 13:26Speaker 3: for tomorrow.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Having Kanty and Michelle are unsportsman life.
- 13:30Speaker 5: If they just did that beating the reigning defending champs
- 13:33Speaker 5: in the reigning MVP two times over, they can absolutely
- 13:37Speaker 5: win the NBA Finals.
- 13:38Speaker 6: They've got a.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Tough test in the New York Knicks. But we've been
- 13:41Speaker 5: asking a question all season long about can the San
- 13:44Speaker 5: Antonio Spurs skip steps for Victor Webbin Yama as their
- 13:48Speaker 5: best player, and the answer is emphatic yes.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Unsportsman life.
- 13:53Speaker 7: Listen in weekday mornings from Buying to Adam the Zone
- 13:56Speaker 7: eleven AM and ninety three point seven FM.
- 14:00Speaker 8: The only two things in life that make it worth
- 14:03Speaker 8: living is guitars are too good and firm feeling women.
- 14:10Speaker 8: I don't need the name in the Marquee lights. I
- 14:14Speaker 8: got masel got you with me tonight. Maybe it's time
- 14:20Speaker 8: we got back to the basics of love. Let's go
- 14:27Speaker 8: to Looking.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Coats, Welcome back, glad to have you with us. On
- 14:31Speaker 1: a Tuesday, coming up a high school report, Scott Tribely
- 14:35Speaker 1: with a French open report, Jackie Cheryl and we're going
- 14:41Speaker 1: to hear from Aggie Baseball last night postgame as well.
- 14:46Speaker 1: But the first thing we're going to do is listen
- 14:50Speaker 1: to the USC team Andy Stankwitz, also Augie Lopez who
- 15:01Speaker 1: had the three run bomb in the seventh that was
- 15:06Speaker 1: the dagger. And Grant Gravell, who threw a lot of pitches,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think eighty nine pitches in the heat on Friday.
- 15:19Speaker 1: He comes back and throw sixty four more and four
- 15:22Speaker 1: innings three runs. Excuse me three hits, only one ter
- 15:28Speaker 1: run he walked to the only two batters walked. I'll
- 15:32Speaker 1: tell you what this pitching staff did. They didn't walk anybody.
- 15:36Speaker 1: They made you put the ball in play. They threw strikes,
- 15:40Speaker 1: and I got it. They were just a better team.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They would flap better at least for two games, actually
- 15:47Speaker 1: for four, but for two games they were better with
- 15:51Speaker 1: no questions asked. So Stankowitz Lopez at Grant Our Bowl
- 16:01Speaker 1: of USC.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Well, Uh, crazy weekend. I think what our boys accomplished
- 16:10Speaker 6: is pretty significant. When you lose game one and you
- 16:15Speaker 6: come back and win for against obviously fantastic opponents that
- 16:21Speaker 6: have been doing well for a long time, and come into.
- 16:25Speaker 9: College Station and.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Play the time of baseball that we played, something that
- 16:31Speaker 6: as a coach, you you train them right and encourage them,
- 16:36Speaker 6: and you believe in them, and you just let them
- 16:38Speaker 6: go and and man, I just they just can't tell
- 16:42Speaker 6: you how proud I am of everybody on our team.
- 16:47Speaker 9: They just kept working, kept kept.
- 16:50Speaker 6: Getting after it and believing in each other. It doesn't
- 16:54Speaker 6: always work out that way, we know that, but we
- 16:58Speaker 6: sure are excited and grateful that it worked out the
- 17:02Speaker 6: way it did.
- 17:03Speaker 9: Bro left Ogy could you hear the crowd changing your name.
- 17:10Speaker 10: It's a small US group, but they're pretty loud.
- 17:12Speaker 9: After your home run.
- 17:14Speaker 11: H yeah, I could hear.
- 17:17Speaker 12: I think the rest of the ballpark went pretty silent,
- 17:19Speaker 12: but I knew my family was up there, and I
- 17:21Speaker 12: can always hear them no matter where we're playing, so
- 17:23Speaker 12: it's always great to hear the crowd having our back.
- 17:27Speaker 12: So yeah, that was great.
- 17:30Speaker 9: Second row.
- 17:32Speaker 13: Great, you pitched over one hundred and fifty pitches over
- 17:34Speaker 13: the weekend. Just kind of talk about resilience with the
- 17:37Speaker 13: arms for yourself but also just for these Union as
- 17:39Speaker 13: a whole, kind of finding way to battle through the lost.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 14: Obviously our first game loss isn't the best case scenario
- 17:46Speaker 14: for any team, but you know, going back to one
- 17:49Speaker 14: hundred and fifty pitches, it didn't feel like that felt
- 17:51Speaker 14: like I told Sean yesterday, our pitching coach, that I
- 17:53Speaker 14: wanted to pitch yesterday but he wouldn't let me. So
- 17:56Speaker 14: starting tonight, I had a lot of confidence in myself.
- 17:58Speaker 14: Felt good and you know, one foot on the gas,
- 18:01Speaker 14: so felt good.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Left Alex coach, just what was the biggest things you
- 18:06Speaker 1: just saw from your pitchers collectively?
- 18:07Speaker 15: The last two days we are just say able to
- 18:09Speaker 15: hold down Adam's offense the way.
- 18:11Speaker 9: Up did well. As you know, it's not it's not
- 18:13Speaker 9: easy to do. It takes special young men with with
- 18:15Speaker 9: belief and with confidence. And Sean Allen he's did an.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Incredible job helping these young men develop their pitching marshal
- 18:24Speaker 6: what they could do. And what Grant Cavell did today, guys,
- 18:27Speaker 6: I think you guys know that to want the ball
- 18:30Speaker 6: and accept it and the challenge and step up and do.
- 18:32Speaker 9: What he did against it.
- 18:35Speaker 6: As we all know, it was a really really offensive
- 18:37Speaker 6: ball club.
- 18:39Speaker 9: It's not easy to do.
- 18:40Speaker 6: But the young man's gotten, he's fearless and he wanted
- 18:45Speaker 6: the baseball in his hand, and we do. Yesterday when
- 18:47Speaker 6: you asked me who we were going to start, I
- 18:49Speaker 6: knew we were gonna start right. I knew he wanted
- 18:51Speaker 6: the baseball. Didn't tell you just then, but there was
- 18:54Speaker 6: no doubt in our mind that Grant was the right
- 18:56Speaker 6: guy take the ball the night and do what he
- 18:59Speaker 6: did was to you know, in these moments, weekends like this,
- 19:03Speaker 6: you need you need guys to step up and do
- 19:05Speaker 6: things that that put against the odds. And so what
- 19:08Speaker 6: he did today and incredible. And then Chase Harrold what
- 19:11Speaker 6: he did coming in behind him. You know, Chase has
- 19:14Speaker 6: been kind of up and down, but we knew, we
- 19:17Speaker 6: know Chase, we need you, we need you tonight, and
- 19:20Speaker 6: he came in and fished incredibly well also, and then
- 19:23Speaker 6: Sacks and obviously going to Adam at the end.
- 19:26Speaker 9: So yeah, you know, it takes those moments, takes the
- 19:30Speaker 9: job that.
- 19:30Speaker 6: You did yesterday just to do it, and you got
- 19:34Speaker 6: you got a bunch of young men that have trained
- 19:35Speaker 6: hard and believe in themselves and they enjoyed being together,
- 19:38Speaker 6: being a team, and and so for me as a coach,
- 19:42Speaker 6: it's just it's just exciting to see the development.
- 19:46Speaker 9: Grant.
- 19:46Speaker 14: Now, you guys committed to a school that didn't have
- 19:49Speaker 14: a home Bold park last year.
- 19:50Speaker 9: Along the road every single game.
- 19:52Speaker 16: Can you just talk a little bit about that toughness
- 19:54Speaker 16: and how they kind of translated.
- 19:55Speaker 12: To uh, yeah, you know, obviously being able to play
- 20:01Speaker 12: at home this year has been a blessing, but the
- 20:04Speaker 12: last couple of years, we just kind of showed up
- 20:08Speaker 12: every day, you know, whether that was an Irvine or
- 20:12Speaker 12: East LA Community College for practice, just with the same
- 20:15Speaker 12: mentality if we're going to show up and put our
- 20:17Speaker 12: work in and and dominate no matter where we are. So,
- 20:22Speaker 12: you know, just showing up every day and punching that
- 20:25Speaker 12: that time card and going to work and just putting
- 20:27Speaker 12: your head down and knowing that no matter where you are,
- 20:30Speaker 12: what home field you have, you don't have a home
- 20:32Speaker 12: field that we're gonna get. We're gonna get it done
- 20:35Speaker 12: and play quality baseball.
- 20:36Speaker 9: Second we left.
- 20:39Speaker 17: Coach, this is the first time USC's going to the
- 20:42Speaker 17: Super Reels in two thousand and five.
- 20:43Speaker 13: Just talk about how important this step is for the
- 20:46Speaker 13: program that's continues.
- 20:47Speaker 6: To build up with what's been t Yeah, it's a
- 20:51Speaker 6: last year we got to regional final obviously that was
- 20:56Speaker 6: a big step as well, and I think this year
- 20:58Speaker 6: getting to a super is so it's special. You know,
- 21:02Speaker 6: this is a special place, man us See, I'm just
- 21:04Speaker 6: telling you, man, it's it's it's it's different.
- 21:07Speaker 9: People are different, right.
- 21:09Speaker 6: We've got quality young man, We've got great parents, We've
- 21:11Speaker 6: got quality administration that that are supporting all of our.
- 21:15Speaker 9: Athletes, every single team.
- 21:16Speaker 6: And like I said, it's a there's nowhere or where
- 21:21Speaker 6: I'd rather be and be a part of this program.
- 21:23Speaker 9: And so to be able to do We're excited for
- 21:25Speaker 9: our our.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Alums and guys that that have been following us and
- 21:28Speaker 6: you know, get excited about what we're doing.
- 21:31Speaker 9: And so yeah, it's a legacy. It's a big one.
- 21:34Speaker 6: Obviously, we all know about coach to Ada and coach
- 21:36Speaker 6: Gillusbie and what they've done, and we want to we
- 21:39Speaker 6: want to, we want to, you know, put a nice
- 21:43Speaker 6: name back on on USC baseball.
- 21:45Speaker 9: And that's been part of the plan since we got here.
- 21:46Speaker 9: It's just it was gonna take time. I had a quality, Like.
- 21:49Speaker 6: I said, great administrations understood that and believed in and
- 21:52Speaker 6: us and bleeding me and our coaching staff and give it,
- 21:55Speaker 6: give us every all the resources we needed to build it.
- 21:58Speaker 9: Now we've got a beautiful stadium.
- 22:00Speaker 6: You know, we're gonna have a beautiful clubhouse next year
- 22:02Speaker 6: and batting cages and all that. So that's a appropriate
- 22:07Speaker 6: because we tell people at the trains move Now we
- 22:09Speaker 6: got to train Hawking its whistle, So that's the trains moving.
- 22:13Speaker 9: We're so excited to see where we're going. I'm going
- 22:18Speaker 9: to follow up on that with you guys.
- 22:20Speaker 10: Considering the history of USC the national championships, you guys
- 22:24Speaker 10: weren't born the last time USC was at a super regional.
- 22:28Speaker 10: How does it feel to help plush your school super
- 22:31Speaker 10: region super regional again?
- 22:33Speaker 9: If you both could answer.
- 22:34Speaker 14: I was born in two thousand and four, so the
- 22:36Speaker 14: USC didn't make a regional while I was there. But however,
- 22:40Speaker 14: it's a lot of consistency. We went thirty two and
- 22:43Speaker 14: one at home. I believe in having a home field
- 22:45Speaker 14: advantage like that. Every game is something that can't make
- 22:48Speaker 14: up to the story itself, So just going.
- 22:51Speaker 9: Back to it.
- 22:51Speaker 14: Thank God, every day we're living and we're here, and
- 22:54Speaker 14: you know, consistency is where it's at.
- 22:57Speaker 12: And I mean you said it yourself with the h
- 23:00Speaker 12: the history of this program has It's been an honor
- 23:04Speaker 12: to wear the Trojan brand on the front of my chest.
- 23:06Speaker 12: And honestly, just knowing that this team is the team
- 23:12Speaker 12: to bring USC back to super Regional is incredible. Honestly
- 23:16Speaker 12: hasn't hit me until right now, I think. But we're
- 23:19Speaker 12: just feeling absolutely grateful and super blessed.
- 23:24Speaker 9: If I can't.
- 23:24Speaker 10: You have six players on the alternament team, can you
- 23:28Speaker 10: tell me what Aubrey Corbiez brings to the team. You know,
- 23:32Speaker 10: he started those rallies early for you guys.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Yeah, he's you know, he's talking about just just kind
- 23:39Speaker 6: of cornerstones, you know. And you know Avery and Takucci,
- 23:44Speaker 6: Kevin and and Dean Carpeteer and uh Andrew Lamb, these
- 23:50Speaker 6: guys that they could have left, you know, they could
- 23:53Speaker 6: have said a man, they got here when we had
- 23:55Speaker 6: a field and and they chose to stay. And that's
- 24:00Speaker 6: something that I'm grateful for. And it just tells you
- 24:03Speaker 6: the quality of.
- 24:05Speaker 9: Young men that they are there here.
- 24:06Speaker 6: They've got two feet in. They said, I'm not going anywhere.
- 24:09Speaker 6: I want to help build this program. And and then
- 24:12Speaker 6: to see the success that they're not just Aby but
- 24:15Speaker 6: all of them they've had.
- 24:17Speaker 9: They're great leaders. They they lead by example. And Avery's
- 24:22Speaker 9: got a great emotion.
- 24:23Speaker 6: He plays an athletic game on defense as you can tell,
- 24:26Speaker 6: like and still bases and so he's.
- 24:28Speaker 9: A dynamic baseball player. But he brings more to this
- 24:32Speaker 9: program than just baseball. He's he's a huge.
- 24:35Speaker 15: Part of our success, right Travis with Ayden sends out
- 24:42Speaker 15: for them Infesta Metrician. They've had in visions that in
- 24:45Speaker 15: you sense that this could be a game for a
- 24:49Speaker 15: big hit or or just getting into the bullpen.
- 24:52Speaker 12: Uh, we like you all were able to kind of
- 24:54Speaker 12: do we try and keep every game or like depending
- 25:00Speaker 12: on who's on the mound or whatever the pitching the
- 25:02Speaker 12: opposing pitching staff is going through, we kind of treat
- 25:06Speaker 12: every app that and every game the same, put the
- 25:09Speaker 12: same mentality that we're gonna push pushed you like that
- 25:12Speaker 12: says we're gonna like to say like to say that
- 25:14Speaker 12: we're gonna ride the bull, and whoever the bull is
- 25:17Speaker 12: on the on the mound starting for them, we're gonna
- 25:19Speaker 12: take advantage of of what he has and and and
- 25:22Speaker 12: kind of have our own approach and plan and we
- 25:24Speaker 12: execute you today. And but I don't think that we
- 25:28Speaker 12: took a different approach based on what A and M.
- 25:32Speaker 9: Had from coach last year.
- 25:35Speaker 14: And John Savage said that you need to dominate in
- 25:38Speaker 14: California between San Diego and Santa Barbara.
- 25:40Speaker 9: So many of these kids are in that region.
- 25:42Speaker 18: What goes into the recruited of all your guys and
- 25:44Speaker 18: some development that's.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Gonna yeah, I think it's uh, I understand what he's saying.
- 25:49Speaker 9: That's that's that's that's accurate.
- 25:51Speaker 6: You know a lot of young men are choosing to
- 25:55Speaker 6: add different conferences, and I think that we want to
- 25:58Speaker 6: keep Sun cow Boys home and show them that.
- 26:02Speaker 9: Obviously coach Chaves is doing a great job. We feel
- 26:05Speaker 9: like we're showing that.
- 26:06Speaker 6: That you're come to us C, You're gonna get a
- 26:08Speaker 6: chance to develop, You're gonna get a chance to get drafted.
- 26:10Speaker 6: We've got a lot of guys that are gonna get
- 26:11Speaker 6: a chance to play football. Come mill the summer, and
- 26:15Speaker 6: like I said, anything else, it's just the experience you
- 26:18Speaker 6: get right, you don't have to you can get wonderful
- 26:21Speaker 6: baseball and training and development right in Los Angeles, and
- 26:24Speaker 6: you've got.
- 26:24Speaker 9: Great weather, so you have a great stadium, and so yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 9: it's part of it. We want to we want to
- 26:30Speaker 9: show people that that we're for real.
- 26:34Speaker 6: That's a that's a it's been challenging, but I think
- 26:37Speaker 6: that's been one of our goals when we first got here.
- 26:38Speaker 9: It's like, hey, you can stay home. You don't have
- 26:41Speaker 9: to leave the state. You can stay right in town
- 26:43Speaker 9: and and get a.
- 26:44Speaker 6: Chance to be a lot of big leaders man, get
- 26:47Speaker 6: a lot of Hall of Famers, get a lot of
- 26:48Speaker 6: all Americans.
- 26:51Speaker 9: They're all over the place.
- 26:52Speaker 6: Then they put their children uniform on and so you
- 26:55Speaker 6: know that if you come and play for U s
- 26:59Speaker 6: you're gonna You're gonna get a fantastic experience.
- 27:01Speaker 9: I can tell you them. Last question back, there's a
- 27:03Speaker 9: second room, coach. Adam Sure. He took the laws against
- 27:06Speaker 9: Texas State today. He used to close that out. He's
- 27:08Speaker 9: obviously a Texas boy as well.
- 27:10Speaker 13: Just kind of talk about the importance of what he
- 27:11Speaker 13: brings to your team and how special that moment was.
- 27:13Speaker 9: Maybe from your perspective, Yeah, we're excited for him.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Man.
- 27:16Speaker 6: He's a great young man. Came over in the transfer
- 27:20Speaker 6: from Pepperdine and you know, I think it's probably a
- 27:24Speaker 6: special moment for him to come home and get on
- 27:27Speaker 6: the mound and close out the regional. I'm sure he
- 27:30Speaker 6: knows a lot of the guys over in the A
- 27:32Speaker 6: and M uniform. I mean, I know, I know Adam
- 27:35Speaker 6: respects everybody. So it's not a matter of like, oh,
- 27:38Speaker 6: you know, I want to do it against A and M.
- 27:39Speaker 6: He just he just wanted to compete well. Coming home
- 27:42Speaker 6: happy for him his family.
- 27:44Speaker 9: It's a big moment for him.
- 27:45Speaker 6: And it's uh school to see guys that put the
- 27:47Speaker 6: work in and you know, we we had our fans,
- 27:52Speaker 6: our parents right there here, and they get that little
- 27:54Speaker 6: small section up in their corner and they were they
- 27:56Speaker 6: were out of number.
- 27:57Speaker 9: That's part of two man. We want we want to
- 27:59Speaker 9: we want to make them proud. They came a long.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Way to watch their boys play baseball and support us.
- 28:04Speaker 6: And so that's a rewarding feeling when you can our
- 28:07Speaker 6: fans can come here and sit in the stands and
- 28:09Speaker 6: they're out numbered and they're trying to crazy.
- 28:11Speaker 9: To cheer, and.
- 28:13Speaker 6: You know, this is a cool moment for them too,
- 28:16Speaker 6: and we're happy that they could celebrate this with us.
- 28:18Speaker 1: That is the winning locker room. Late last night, long
- 28:24Speaker 1: about eleven thirty ish, we will hear from the Aggies
- 28:29Speaker 1: coming up. They were represented by, of course Michael Early,
- 28:34Speaker 1: Grant Grohovic, Bear Harrison, and Clayton Freshcorn in the post
- 28:39Speaker 1: game media conference, and we will hear from them coming
- 28:44Speaker 1: up in the second hour. We have got a high
- 28:47Speaker 1: school report just ahead, so it's the next to last,
- 28:55Speaker 1: the penultimate high school report for this spring, and hopefully
- 29:02Speaker 1: starting next week, we're going to hear from maybe the
- 29:06Speaker 1: yard Dogs and maybe the Bombers starting next week on
- 29:12Speaker 1: the program. Galleria has been part of our community since

- 30:05Speaker 1: you haven't gotten a graduation gift yet, if you've got
- 30:08Speaker 1: things coming up, or if you want to do one
- 30:10Speaker 1: of those just becauses that just shocks your significant other,
- 30:17Speaker 1: go in and get a gift certificate from Galleria, get
- 30:20Speaker 1: a whole day Spa package if you want to. You
- 30:25Speaker 1: can get a monetary certificate. Let her make the decision,
- 30:30Speaker 1: or or she can trade it in if if you
- 30:32Speaker 1: don't know what you're talking about, what you probably don't,
- 30:35Speaker 1: But man, they make it look so professional with the
- 30:38Speaker 1: bag and the bow and all of that. It makes
- 30:41Speaker 1: it look like you've gone to a lot of trouble
- 30:43Speaker 1: with all you've done is stopped in and given them
- 30:45Speaker 1: a credit card and let them do the rest. That's
- 30:47Speaker 1: why they've been around all these years. It's Galleria go

- 32:05Speaker 17: Think this team did more than I expected preseason, but
- 32:10Speaker 17: that change that evolved with the success that we had
- 32:12Speaker 17: in the middle of the season.
- 32:14Speaker 11: And then I sim show, Yeah, this is on the show.
- 32:16Speaker 4: This segment goes on for another couple of minutes.
- 32:18Speaker 10: Do you want to hit a break? No?

- 32:52Speaker 7: Man.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Welcome into the High School Report.
- 32:56Speaker 19: I'm Caleb Rapley, and today we are jumping out to
- 32:58Speaker 19: the Polaris Fund Center phone line visit with the head
- 33:01Speaker 19: coach of the Burton baseball team, mister Matt Taylor.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Coach, thanks for joining.
- 33:05Speaker 11: Me today, Yes, sat, thanks for having me on.
- 33:08Speaker 19: Absolutely, congratulations on the playoff run. Your Panthers getting ready
- 33:13Speaker 19: to take on the Ropes Eagles in the two A
- 33:15Speaker 19: Division two state championship this Thursday. It's been a very
- 33:18Speaker 19: successful season twenty eight and four overall coming out of
- 33:22Speaker 19: you know, one of the tougher districts in the state. Iola,
- 33:26Speaker 19: the other team from your district made it to the
- 33:30Speaker 19: state championship in two A Division one.
- 33:32Speaker 4: How much of an impact do you think.
- 33:33Speaker 19: That tough district schedule had on your ability to go
- 33:37Speaker 19: deep in the playoffs this year?
- 33:39Speaker 11: Yeah, I'll tell you what we have. We have a
- 33:40Speaker 11: couple of good teams in our district, you know, Mumford
- 33:42Speaker 11: and Iola in there, and and that was our first
- 33:45Speaker 11: goal for the year was to be district champs. And
- 33:48Speaker 11: we haven't done that. I haven't done that as a
- 33:50Speaker 11: head coach are in Barton in the last five years.
- 33:52Speaker 11: So that was our first goal and we did that.
- 33:55Speaker 11: We we got district champs. And then then we set
- 33:57Speaker 11: a few extra goals and you know, one of them
- 34:00Speaker 11: was to get the state championship, and we did that.
- 34:03Speaker 11: And the boys are excited. Coach Taylor's excited, and uh,
- 34:07Speaker 11: the community of Burton's really excited, and the community behind
- 34:11Speaker 11: me has been great. Uh, couldn't ask for more. So, Yeah,
- 34:14Speaker 11: the last last week or so, you know, we've been
- 34:17Speaker 11: living on a high.
- 34:18Speaker 19: So what have been some of the keys to uh
- 34:20Speaker 19: success for your Panthers this year.
- 34:22Speaker 11: The main thing I tell you guys is number one,
- 34:24Speaker 11: we played as a team. Everything we break out on
- 34:25Speaker 11: his team and and that's been a success, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 11: no matter who's in the lineup. And of course playing defense,
- 34:33Speaker 11: you know, and as far as that throwing strikes and
- 34:36Speaker 11: you always tell the kids, you can't defend a walk,
- 34:38Speaker 11: and uh, of course our last game, Tyler gave up
- 34:42Speaker 11: three or four walks and then we struggled. And when
- 34:44Speaker 11: we don't, we don't walk people. It's tough to defend that.
- 34:47Speaker 11: So uh, and then the offense side of it, uh,
- 34:51Speaker 11: you know, put pressure on their defense and uh, we
- 34:54Speaker 11: run the bases. We're gonna we're gonna make you throw
- 34:56Speaker 11: and catch the ball. So I think the kids bought
- 34:58Speaker 11: into it, and it put a in a position to
- 35:01Speaker 11: be where we're at.
- 35:02Speaker 19: So you had a few key pieces come back from
- 35:04Speaker 19: last year's team, a few kids that were first team
- 35:07Speaker 19: All District. So how much of an impact did that make?
- 35:10Speaker 19: Having those upperclassmen this year that have been around the
- 35:13Speaker 19: program for so long.
- 35:15Speaker 11: I'll tell you what you know. I returned to all
- 35:16Speaker 11: of them except for one starter, and just the maturity
- 35:20Speaker 11: of the kids. Not so much on the field, you know,
- 35:23Speaker 11: the physical part of it, but the mentality of it.
- 35:26Speaker 11: You know, the kids are more laid back. They know
- 35:28Speaker 11: what to expect. I have a few other few young
- 35:31Speaker 11: kids that stepped up in some roles, and I still
- 35:33Speaker 11: have a young team. I think I have two senior starters,
- 35:36Speaker 11: and so we're still young. Uh, we're young as the age,
- 35:41Speaker 11: but we're you know, we're older as in playing the game.
- 35:44Speaker 11: And so that that's big. They know me, they know
- 35:47Speaker 11: what we're gonna do, and and a practice we can
- 35:49Speaker 11: practice on different things and you know, pickoffs and other
- 35:52Speaker 11: stuff like that. So yeah, that's big.
- 35:55Speaker 19: So over the last few months here, you've only had
- 35:58Speaker 19: two losses since district play has started. Lost one game
- 36:03Speaker 19: to Iola back in March and then lost one game
- 36:06Speaker 19: in the playoff series with Porter Ransas. How much have
- 36:09Speaker 19: you been able to carry that momentum throughout the playoffs
- 36:12Speaker 19: and how do you think gonna come into the state
- 36:13Speaker 19: championship game.
- 36:14Speaker 11: I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't I'm not
- 36:16Speaker 11: a guy that reads tats. I don't read the stats
- 36:18Speaker 11: of the averages. I don't. I didn't even know that
- 36:21Speaker 11: till you told me that. You know, I know we've
- 36:22Speaker 11: been on a win street, but I didn't. I know
- 36:24Speaker 11: we lost a FastPort Rams, but I realized the last
- 36:26Speaker 11: one was against Iola. I tried just to play baseball.
- 36:30Speaker 11: These guys, we don't read into that stuff stats.
- 36:33Speaker 9: You know.
- 36:34Speaker 11: We play in the moment, and that's why I teach
- 36:36Speaker 11: the kids.
- 36:37Speaker 19: Burton is matched up with the Ropes Eagles in the
- 36:39Speaker 19: two eight Division two state championship game. They've also had
- 36:42Speaker 19: a really successful season over thirty wins.
- 36:45Speaker 4: What do you expect to see from them?
- 36:46Speaker 11: You know, to be honest with you, you know, they're
- 36:48Speaker 11: they're a great team obviously to get in this far,
- 36:51Speaker 11: and anybody who played in this round, they're gonna be good.
- 36:54Speaker 11: I don't know much about them, and I really haven't
- 36:56Speaker 11: done scouting all year long. And I tell the guys you,
- 36:59Speaker 11: no matter who we played, we can play the New
- 37:00Speaker 11: York Yanks, we can play Texas A and m Haggis.
- 37:03Speaker 11: You know, we're gonna we're gonna, we're gonna put the
- 37:04Speaker 11: pants and shoes on and we're gonna go play. We're
- 37:07Speaker 11: gonna do us and and well, you know what happens
- 37:10Speaker 11: in the seventh inning. You know we'll go from there.
- 37:13Speaker 11: So I don't They're gonna be a good team. And uh,
- 37:17Speaker 11: once again, we got to tow the ball. We gotta
- 37:18Speaker 11: hit the ball, we gotta kich the ball. And that's
- 37:21Speaker 11: what we're gonna try to do on Thursday at twelve o'clock.
- 37:23Speaker 19: So I know you said you try to keep it,
- 37:25Speaker 19: you know, one game at a time. But looking back
- 37:27Speaker 19: at last year, another very successful season, going deep in
- 37:31Speaker 19: the playoffs, but did come up short at the end, unfortunately,
- 37:35Speaker 19: losing a two out of three to overten.
- 37:37Speaker 4: How much pressure does that add for this year's team.
- 37:39Speaker 11: Last week's game against Backville, that probably had the most
- 37:42Speaker 11: pressure on me because it wasn't so much that I
- 37:45Speaker 11: didn't think we could win it. I just wanted to
- 37:47Speaker 11: get to the next I wanted to get to the
- 37:49Speaker 11: state game for these kids, and they did it this week.
- 37:54Speaker 11: It practice, it has been fun. It's been short, sweet,
- 37:57Speaker 11: it's been hot, really hot. We sweating it right, sweating
- 38:01Speaker 11: and drinking water, and but the kids, it's laid back
- 38:04Speaker 11: and from here on out, it you know, it is
- 38:06Speaker 11: what it is, and we're we're gonna live in a moment.
- 38:09Speaker 11: We're gonna enjoy the scenier at Round Rock at Del
- 38:12Speaker 11: Diamond and play on nice field and have good fans
- 38:16Speaker 11: there and see what we put on a show for him.
- 38:20Speaker 19: So the thing about the Texas high school baseball season
- 38:22Speaker 19: is starts off in February, so it's a lot of
- 38:25Speaker 19: times it can be thirty degrees when you're playing your
- 38:28Speaker 19: first few games.
- 38:29Speaker 4: And then you get to state championship.
- 38:30Speaker 19: In June and you're playing at noon on a Thursday
- 38:33Speaker 19: in Round Rock, so it could be upwards of ninety
- 38:36Speaker 19: five one hundred degrees. So how do you manage that
- 38:40Speaker 19: as a coach to keep your players fresh in those conditions.
- 38:44Speaker 11: You know, it's funny you say that. You know, I
- 38:46Speaker 11: don't like playing any cold weather. I will not practice
- 38:48Speaker 11: in the gym when it's raining. We you know, the
- 38:51Speaker 11: weather is a big factor.
- 38:54Speaker 12: You know.
- 38:54Speaker 11: We started last week, you know, practicing at eleven o'clock
- 38:58Speaker 11: and I told the other day it's okay to sweat
- 39:01Speaker 11: it out. You know, it's okay to sweat It's okay,
- 39:04Speaker 11: You're gonna be fine. And we started that last week
- 39:07Speaker 11: practice at eleven o'clock. And you know, like today, we
- 39:10Speaker 11: had a great practice.
- 39:11Speaker 14: Kids.
- 39:11Speaker 11: We're having fun out there. You know, we got plenty
- 39:14Speaker 11: of water and and uh, I think we'll be fine.
- 39:17Speaker 19: Been looking at the forecast and it looks like there
- 39:19Speaker 19: could be some rain possibilities. Do you know what the
- 39:21Speaker 19: contingencies are for that?
- 39:23Speaker 11: Yes, we had to zoom meeting with u IO and
- 39:25Speaker 11: uh you know, they have a talk there and if
- 39:28Speaker 11: we've got to if we have to have a rain delay,
- 39:30Speaker 11: we'll push you back or if we have to move sites. Uh,
- 39:34Speaker 11: we're they're prepared to do that. But we are going
- 39:37Speaker 11: to play the game sometimes somehow, some ways. So and
- 39:41Speaker 11: my kids are used to that because uh, you know,
- 39:43Speaker 11: our field is is not the greatest and we're used
- 39:47Speaker 11: to rain house or pushing things back or going playing
- 39:49Speaker 11: somewhere else. So my kids just won't play baseball. And
- 39:52Speaker 11: that's what I Baseball is about having fun, and that's
- 39:55Speaker 11: why I try.
- 39:56Speaker 6: To keep it up.
- 39:57Speaker 19: All right, Coach, Well, I appreciate your time today. Good
- 39:59Speaker 19: luck on Thursday, Hope.

- 46:45Speaker 1: He is Scott Tribely. Scott, You've got to help me
- 46:48Speaker 1: out because I haven't heard of any of these quarter finals.
- 46:55Speaker 1: I've heard of one of them, and I don't know
- 46:58Speaker 1: how to pronounce his Name's feel Agier. Ali is that close?
- 47:05Speaker 24: Yeah, Felix, you can call him faa Felix az your
- 47:09Speaker 24: Ali as.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Okay, Ali asim Okay. He's the only one I've heard of.
- 47:16Speaker 24: Well, you know, we don't have center and we don't
- 47:19Speaker 24: have Algarez. I would tell you the new stars would
- 47:23Speaker 24: be ood Are from Spain, who's playing Zveria right now,
- 47:28Speaker 24: and then the real star could be Fonseca from Brazil.
- 47:32Speaker 11: Uh.
- 47:32Speaker 24: He hits the forehand consistently over one hundred miles an hour,
- 47:37Speaker 24: and the Brazilian fans wherever he goes are nuts. So
- 47:44Speaker 24: now I watched him play live in Miami. Uh, and
- 47:47Speaker 24: that's obviously a given Brazilian fans in Miami. South American
- 47:52Speaker 24: fans in Miami, they come, they come out, they support.
- 47:55Speaker 24: But anywhere he goes, you see it. In Paris there
- 47:58Speaker 24: are hundreds and thousands of Brazilian fans. So this guy
- 48:04Speaker 24: is the chance to be a superstar. He could be
- 48:07Speaker 24: like you're looking for your third third guy behind center
- 48:11Speaker 24: and Alcarez and he could be that guy.
- 48:13Speaker 1: How old is he?
- 48:16Speaker 24: Nineteen?
- 48:16Speaker 1: Okay?
- 48:17Speaker 24: Okay, Hodar Holdar nineteen twenty. They both signed with Virginia
- 48:24Speaker 24: and Hoddar made it for a years on second never
- 48:27Speaker 24: made it to campus, turned pro. But these guys are young,
- 48:31Speaker 24: talented and will be top five, top ten players for sure.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Okay, So Alcarez we know missed. He's going to miss
- 48:41Speaker 1: Wimbledon as well. How about long term? What do you
- 48:46Speaker 1: think is going to happen with him?
- 48:48Speaker 24: Well, I've always felt like they I mean, I mean, again,
- 48:53Speaker 24: who are we to judge? I mean, these guys are
- 48:56Speaker 24: superstars and they've got expert teams, but you know, I
- 48:59Speaker 24: don't know that they're managing these schedules. Well, I mean,
- 49:02Speaker 24: you know, you did see Federer was the master of
- 49:05Speaker 24: the schedule and the body and the training and all
- 49:08Speaker 24: that stuff. I mean, this guy's a Ferrari, not not
- 49:11Speaker 24: a Ford pickup truck, you know, so for them to
- 49:15Speaker 24: you know, I get it, you got to go to
- 49:16Speaker 24: Barcelona after Monte Carlo. But I mean that was a
- 49:19Speaker 24: quick turnover in some damp weather. Got the wrist, you know.
- 49:24Speaker 24: I think he's got some longevity or these guys are
- 49:26Speaker 24: gonna play at thirty seven like Djokovic and Nadal and Fedder.
- 49:29Speaker 24: I don't think so. But look, he's still got a
- 49:33Speaker 24: lot of winning to do. This is a this is
- 49:34Speaker 24: a blip on the screen.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Okay. And then center, who has just been dominant since
- 49:41Speaker 1: Alcarez especially has been out. He wilted in the heat,
- 49:47Speaker 1: I guess last week surprised.
- 49:50Speaker 24: So no, he's redhead from the mountains of Italy, you know.
- 49:55Speaker 6: You know.
- 49:55Speaker 24: And again my knock on this one is is is
- 50:00Speaker 24: you know scheduling. I mean, he plays in wins Monte Carlo,
- 50:03Speaker 24: he plays in wins Madrid, he plays in wins Italy Rome,
- 50:07Speaker 24: you know, and again he had to play Rome, it's Italian.
- 50:10Speaker 24: But I almost feel like you drop out of Madrid,
- 50:13Speaker 24: or you know, you got to pace it a little,
- 50:15Speaker 24: because I felt like he came into the tournament tired.
- 50:17Speaker 24: He obviously came in just massive favorite, like the biggest
- 50:20Speaker 24: favorite since the Doll in twenty nine. And then again
- 50:25Speaker 24: like I'm no expert, but you know, you got a
- 50:28Speaker 24: guy that has troubled with the heat. He struggled in
- 50:30Speaker 24: Australia on a hot day, and you don't go to
- 50:34Speaker 24: the ice towel on the neck in the third set.
- 50:37Speaker 24: You start with the ice towel and then the electro
- 50:41Speaker 24: lights with water diluting it. Like I don't know, I'm
- 50:44Speaker 24: not I'm not the expert here, but just some little
- 50:47Speaker 24: things that I feel like, gosh, I mean, this is
- 50:50Speaker 24: these guys are Ferraris right, They're they're they're there. You
- 50:54Speaker 24: gotta make sure you're taking care of these things. But
- 50:56Speaker 24: but shockingly enough with center, I mean cramp up to
- 51:00Speaker 24: sets in five to one. I mean this wasn't like yeah,
- 51:03Speaker 24: five all in the fit five hours in. I mean
- 51:05Speaker 24: last night TFO played for like five hours and forty
- 51:09Speaker 24: five minutes, and both those guys physically, I'm sure they retired,
- 51:14Speaker 24: but they weren't cramping.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, yeah yeah.
- 51:36Speaker 20: The National Weather Service in League City has issued a
- 51:39Speaker 20: severe thunderstorm warning for Central Trinity County in southeastern Texas,
- 51:44Speaker 20: Houston County in southeastern Texas, northeastern Madison County in southeastern Texas,
- 51:50Speaker 20: Northern Folk County in southeastern Texas, north central Walker County
- 51:54Speaker 20: in southeastern Texas until five forty five pm Central daylight time.
- 52:00Speaker 20: At four forty five pm Central daylight time, Sofia thunderstorms
- 52:04Speaker 20: were located along a line extending from six miles southeast
- 52:08Speaker 20: of Kennard to seven miles north of Austonia, moving south
- 52:11Speaker 20: at twenty miles per hour. Hazard sixty miles per hour
- 52:16Speaker 20: wind gusts and quarter size hail. Source radar indicated impact.
- 52:22Speaker 20: Pail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs,
- 52:28Speaker 20: sighting entries. Locations intacted include Crockett, Bostonio, Apple Springs, Grapeland,
- 52:36Speaker 20: Love Lady, Kennard, La, Texo, Wedges, Pennington, and Central Alia.
- 52:41Speaker 20: For your protection, move to an interior room on the
- 52:44Speaker 20: lowest floor of a.
- 52:45Speaker 24: Building with keys going out and golf going out, and
- 52:58Speaker 24: you know, losing some of the Americans. It's just been
- 53:00Speaker 24: a little bit of a bummer, to be honest.
- 53:02Speaker 1: So what's your reaction to Serena coming back?
- 53:09Speaker 24: I mean again, Serena can do whatever she wants, you know,
- 53:13Speaker 24: I mean it's interesting on you. On Sports Center today
- 53:15Speaker 24: they have like the comeback the second act, Like they
- 53:19Speaker 24: show Jordan and they show Brady and they show Phelps
- 53:23Speaker 24: from the swimming and they show Serena and I'm like,
- 53:26Speaker 24: oh wow, yea, and so we'll see. I mean, you know,
- 53:29Speaker 24: obviously she's she's definitely got lost weight, got in shape,
- 53:34Speaker 24: or you know, has worked on her fitness. But I mean,
- 53:36Speaker 24: forty four years old being out, you know, the game
- 53:41Speaker 24: is fast right now. So I don't know, I don't
- 53:43Speaker 24: know what her total plan is with this. I mean,
- 53:45Speaker 24: she's going to start with the dubs. Yeah, everybody's hearing
- 53:48Speaker 24: that she's going to play some singles as well. So
- 53:51Speaker 24: I mean clearly grass and hardcourt would be her best surfaces.
- 53:54Speaker 24: But you know, again, she can do whatever she wants.
- 53:57Speaker 24: She's going to fill stadiums and you know she is
- 54:00Speaker 24: the goat.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Okay, so you mentioned that she's forty four. I think
- 54:04Speaker 1: it's been four years, Am I right about that since
- 54:07Speaker 1: she last played?
- 54:08Speaker 24: Yeah we were US Open twenty twenty two.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Okay, four years since she last played. And you mentioned
- 54:16Speaker 1: she's going to play some doubles, and you know, you
- 54:18Speaker 1: can see that. But do you think she's forgotten how
- 54:22Speaker 1: hard it is in four years and forgotten how fit
- 54:25Speaker 1: these twenty year olds are she'll be playing.
- 54:30Speaker 24: I mean, she's going to find out. I mean, you know,
- 54:33Speaker 24: she's starting with the doubles. She's got a good partner.
- 54:35Speaker 24: I mean, Boco's nine in the world. Yeah, so you
- 54:39Speaker 24: know she's playing on grass. Yeah, so she's setting herself
- 54:42Speaker 24: up and I mean again, I think she's obviously going
- 54:44Speaker 24: to strategically put herself in the right situations. Yeah, but
- 54:47Speaker 24: I mean yeah, I mean, you play singles on a
- 54:50Speaker 24: hard court or whatever, I mean, and you play a
- 54:52Speaker 24: twenty two year old, I mean it is. I mean,
- 54:55Speaker 24: it's definitely a thing. I mean, we all know Serena's
- 54:58Speaker 24: got a amazing serve and she can do some things.
- 55:01Speaker 9: You know.
- 55:01Speaker 24: I guess the question will be the movement.
- 55:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:04Speaker 24: You know, if you watched Serena play early in her career,
- 55:07Speaker 24: her movement was was really unbelievable. I watched her documentary
- 55:10Speaker 24: and it's just interesting to see the tape over the
- 55:13Speaker 24: years and then obviously the feet that the movement slowed
- 55:16Speaker 24: towards the end, and so maybe maybe that's where she
- 55:20Speaker 24: can she's she's picked it up and perhaps gotten a
- 55:24Speaker 24: step back, but we'll see. I mean again, she's gonna
- 55:28Speaker 24: draw attention. It's it's it's good for the sport. And
- 55:33Speaker 24: but you know, again what happens. I mean, can you
- 55:35Speaker 24: stay healthy? It's tough. I mean, look at Djokovic at
- 55:39Speaker 24: thirty seven. I mean he's struggling with these injuries and
- 55:42Speaker 24: stuff too.
- 55:43Speaker 1: You know, so I ask you this, every time we're together,
- 55:47Speaker 1: is there American right now? We should be keeping our
- 55:50Speaker 1: eye on.
- 55:54Speaker 24: There's always a good there's always Americans to keep your
- 55:56Speaker 24: eye on, you know, Chip. You know, I thought, shoot,
- 56:03Speaker 24: you know, it was when Sinner went out, I was thinking, gosh,
- 56:06Speaker 24: maybe maybe Shelton because he was in that bracket. And
- 56:10Speaker 24: I know he's not you know, eighteen years old. He's
- 56:12Speaker 24: twenty two.
- 56:13Speaker 9: You know.
- 56:13Speaker 24: I mean to me, he's got the most upside. But
- 56:16Speaker 24: he's got to still work on his movement. His backhand's
- 56:19Speaker 24: got to get a little better for a Grand Slam.
- 56:21Speaker 24: He's amazing, he serves unbelievable.
- 56:23Speaker 6: You know.
- 56:24Speaker 24: TFO was the last man standing for the US last
- 56:26Speaker 24: night and unfortunately let one slip. I was a total
- 56:30Speaker 24: bummer for him up to two breaks on the fourth up,
- 56:34Speaker 24: so that was a bummer, you know. But no, I
- 56:36Speaker 24: mean this, this on the women's side, this Jo Jokic,
- 56:40Speaker 24: She's unbelievable. This you know, she's eighteen, nineteen years old,
- 56:43Speaker 24: she made the fourth round. I mean, I think, you know,
- 56:46Speaker 24: obviously on the women's side, the US has had more
- 56:49Speaker 24: champions lately. In terms of the men, I mean, I
- 56:53Speaker 24: think we're going to have to lean on a Shelton,
- 56:55Speaker 24: you know, to see what could happen in the next
- 56:58Speaker 24: you know, two to four years.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Scott Tribalay always gives us the info and I think
- 57:05Speaker 1: we'll we'll talk soon.
- 57:08Speaker 24: Yeah, give me a slot at the at the you
- 57:10Speaker 24: know during Wimbledon. Yep, Yeah, we gotta, we gotta dial
- 57:13Speaker 24: it in Wimbledon. Has they bought a they bought a
- 57:16Speaker 24: golf course, No way. They're gonna go to seventy two courts,
- 57:20Speaker 24: you know, from probably in the twenties and so they're
- 57:24Speaker 24: gonna make half of it a park and half of
- 57:26Speaker 24: it's going to be an expansion project. So these Grand
- 57:29Speaker 24: Slams are just turning into mega, mega, mega events, and uh,
- 57:33Speaker 24: you know, it's exciting. They're going to bring the qualifying onto,
- 57:36Speaker 24: onto to the ground. And then also I'm sure the
- 57:39Speaker 24: members will be able to play more during the year
- 57:42Speaker 24: or in the summer. But uh anyway, let's let's definitely
- 57:46Speaker 24: first two weeks of July, let's plan to have another,
- 57:49Speaker 24: uh another chat.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Scott Tribala joins us to talk tennis here on the
- 57:55Speaker 1: Big Show. All right, always fun to check in. We
- 58:00Speaker 1: will hear from Scott probably during the US Open. Why
- 58:07Speaker 1: because you know,
