- 0:00Speaker 1: He had a car was scratched or it was out
- 0:02Speaker 1: of gas, or there was a dead cat in the
- 0:04Speaker 1: backseat or something. Yeah, it's one more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm strong and getty.
- 0:09Speaker 1: One more thing.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I happened to know that we're about to talk about
- 0:14Speaker 2: rental cars. I just drove a rental SUV twenty eight
- 0:20Speaker 2: hundred miles one way and dropped it off and flew back.
- 0:27Speaker 2: This rental car I picked up because I recently had
- 0:29Speaker 2: a problem with a rental company that rhymes with hurts.
- 0:36Speaker 2: And I'm stilling deal with the dealing with thing. I've
- 0:39Speaker 2: spent so many hours on the phone with them dealing
- 0:41Speaker 2: with this. Way back in December of last year, when
- 0:46Speaker 2: I turned when I turned one in and and and
- 0:48Speaker 2: then they sent me a bill for fifteen hundred dollars
- 0:50Speaker 2: saying that I cracked the windshield somehow, which I didn't
- 0:54Speaker 2: see any crack on the winshield. I would have thought
- 0:55Speaker 2: I would have noticed it if it was of any
- 0:57Speaker 2: but anyway, and just I didn't have any proof that
- 1:01Speaker 2: I hadn't. And since then I've found out one, uh,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you need to like take lots of videos and pictures
- 1:12Speaker 2: of your car when you pick it up. According to
- 1:13Speaker 2: my insurance company, but also according to my insurance company,
- 1:15Speaker 2: All State Insurance, this has become a really common thing
- 1:19Speaker 2: with a lot of the companies. And whether it's a
- 1:22Speaker 2: scam or not, I mean, Hurts is a really big corporation,
- 1:24Speaker 2: and it doesn't seem like they're a company that would
- 1:26Speaker 2: want to be in the scam business. It's not like
- 1:29Speaker 2: it's a rinky dink low. But I guess a lot
- 1:31Speaker 2: of the companies are doing this a lot.
- 1:33Speaker 3: And I don't know or is it individual franchisese I
- 1:36Speaker 3: don't have any I don't know how their corporate structure works.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I don't either. I don't know. But it's possible that
- 1:42Speaker 2: you just run it up the flagpole with lots of
- 1:44Speaker 2: people and hopefully pay for it, and that's the way
- 1:46Speaker 2: you get your repairs done. Maybe that's I don't have
- 1:49Speaker 2: any idea.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I think it is individual franchise ease and
- 1:55Speaker 3: probably has nothing to do with the parent company.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That would be my guess.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Although we got this note from Drew, who was dealing
- 2:05Speaker 3: with a completely different company and said, here's my letter
- 2:09Speaker 3: to those folks disputing fuel charge that occurred one week
- 2:13Speaker 3: after I returned the car. So, dear Sir Armadam, I
- 2:17Speaker 3: received your notice dated blah blah blah, an invoice for
- 2:19Speaker 3: ninety dollars and seventy one cents to refuel a rental vehicle.
- 2:23Speaker 3: This invoice is in error since I refueled the Malibu
- 2:26Speaker 3: vehicle less than four miles from the rental car location
- 2:29Speaker 3: at the Portland Airport. I've probably refueled at that very
- 2:32Speaker 3: gas station. I think I know the one he's talking about.
- 2:34Speaker 3: The attached pages have information to support my case, specifically
- 2:37Speaker 3: thrifty rental agreement showing that I rented the Malibu returned
- 2:40Speaker 3: it blah blah after driving the rental vehicle for two
- 2:43Speaker 3: hundred and forty seven miles. Also fuel one hundred percent
- 2:45Speaker 3: out one hundred percent in the invoice dated blah blah blah.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Here are two separate.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Charges for gas on my Capital one card while I
- 2:52Speaker 3: had the rental, including this one less than four miles
- 2:55Speaker 3: from PDAX on the very date I returned it. Moments
- 2:58Speaker 3: before I returned it, average gas prices in Portland approximately
- 3:02Speaker 3: four and a quarter gallon. Average fuel efficiency form Malibu
- 3:04Speaker 3: twenty one mph two hundred and forty seven miles driving
- 3:07Speaker 3: a twenty nine offer consumes about a gallons. That's exactly
- 3:10Speaker 3: what you charge me for consuming, except I have receipts
- 3:12Speaker 3: I paid for the gas and turn the vehicle.
- 3:14Speaker 2: With a full tank that is detailed.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Oh it's great.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Please avoid the charge on my card for ninety blah
- 3:20Speaker 3: bah bah. Additionally, as a consultant, I charge one hundred
- 3:22Speaker 3: and fifty dollars per hour for my time. Please remit
- 3:25Speaker 3: two hour charges, one for filing a dispute with capital one,
- 3:29Speaker 3: the other to research my records and respond to this
- 3:31Speaker 3: fraudulent invoice.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Sincerely, I was about to say that that is more
- 3:35Speaker 2: than I'm willing to spend of my time in work
- 3:37Speaker 2: to come up with that documentation. But if you charge
- 3:39Speaker 2: for your time, then it works.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And then I'm sorry. It wasn't true. It was a
- 3:43Speaker 1: Stephen C.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Seed his credit Cards Fraud Division and the Better Business Bureau.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh good one.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's well done, Sarah. Next time I have some
- 3:53Speaker 3: sort of a dispute, I'm just gonna have you do
- 3:55Speaker 3: the paperwork and I'll gladly pay your fee. What just
- 4:00Speaker 3: say a hundred buck an hour? One hundred and fifty
- 4:01Speaker 3: an hour all inflation.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But so since I got scared, of my last one,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and not really so much. I think my insurance company
- 4:08Speaker 2: is going to figure it out. But the amount of
- 4:10Speaker 2: time I've have to spend on the phone, you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: getting to what your time is worth and everything like
- 4:15Speaker 2: that has been such a pain in the ass. But
- 4:16Speaker 2: so I pick up this, this hurts vehicle that I
- 4:18Speaker 2: know I'm going to drive many thousands of miles, and
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's got so many How are you supposed.
- 4:24Speaker 1: To do this?
- 4:24Speaker 2: It's got hail damage, it's got dents, it's got screens,
- 4:27Speaker 2: it's got scratches over the whole vehicle. How am I
- 4:29Speaker 2: going to prove that I didn't put that dent in
- 4:31Speaker 2: it or that scratch and it even if I've got
- 4:33Speaker 2: you know, I don't know. You just hope, I guess,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I mean h individual case.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Well, then they might claim your dead bear left to
- 4:41Speaker 3: stain in the rug in the trunk if you're RFK Junior.
- 4:45Speaker 2: God, the number of phone calls I've had, and every
- 4:47Speaker 2: single time I have to go through the whole thing,
- 4:50Speaker 2: how many people were in the car? Well, first of all,
- 4:52Speaker 2: every single time they say can when can we We
- 4:54Speaker 2: need to make an appointment for you bring the car
- 4:56Speaker 2: in so we can look at it and assess the damage,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and I say it was a rental car. As you
- 5:00Speaker 2: can see on there, it's Hurts Corporation. I don't know
- 5:02Speaker 2: it's a rental car.
- 5:03Speaker 1: What the F do you'd not get.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So you can't bring the car in? No, it was
- 5:08Speaker 2: back in December. I don't keep my rental cars around
- 5:10Speaker 2: for nine months or whatever.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It's expensive if nothing else and always, and I've been
- 5:14Speaker 3: through this multiple multiple times.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Was anybody in the car hurt from a chipped windshield?
- 5:22Speaker 1: No?
- 5:23Speaker 2: So you're saying no, no, nobody was hurt. Was anybody
- 5:25Speaker 2: else in the car? Yes? What are their ages? Twelve
- 5:29Speaker 2: and fourteen? Were they in car seats? I said no,
- 5:32Speaker 2: I don't keep my fourteen year old in a car seat?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Were either the child? Was the twelve year old in
- 5:37Speaker 2: a car seat? No? Don't keep the twelve year old
- 5:39Speaker 2: in the car seat? Either? Is no?
- 5:42Speaker 1: No?
- 5:42Speaker 2: This is this. They're just going through the questions, the
- 5:45Speaker 2: mindless questions they make them ask, no matter what. And
- 5:48Speaker 2: I've done this at least three times with three different people.
- 5:52Speaker 3: We're going to need to talk to them to ask
- 5:53Speaker 3: them whether they have been touched inappropriately or if there
- 5:56Speaker 3: are guns in the home.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Right, were they hurt? Nope, they weren't hurt by the
- 6:01Speaker 2: chipped windshield either, So nobody in the car was hurt. Correct,
- 6:06Speaker 2: Not a single person was injured due to the chipped windshield, which,
- 6:09Speaker 2: by the way, didn't actually happen.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So the nine hurts you if you ask me again.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So the nonexistent chipped windshield that you're claiming did get chipped. Yes,
- 6:20Speaker 2: really didn't hurt anybody. But even if it's, thank god,
- 6:24Speaker 2: none of us would have been hurt. Okay, So just
- 6:26Speaker 2: confirming no one was hurt. Yes, yes? How many times
- 6:30Speaker 2: do I need to say yes or no, depending on
- 6:33Speaker 2: how you phrase it to make it clear no one
- 6:36Speaker 2: was hurt by the chipped windshield, which, by the way,
- 6:39Speaker 2: once again didn't actually happen. I mean, honestly, God, I've
- 6:43Speaker 2: gone through this so many times it was hilarious. I
- 6:45Speaker 2: did it on speakerphone with my kids because I'd gotten
- 6:47Speaker 2: so met up with it. I just answer while I'm
- 6:49Speaker 2: running errands. I just answered it. But my kids were
- 6:51Speaker 2: laughing so hard as we went through this again and
- 6:54Speaker 2: again and again.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'd call it costka asque. But if Franz Costca was
- 7:00Speaker 1: with us.
- 7:00Speaker 2: He'd say, I'd never write anything that's stupid, all right,
- 7:02Speaker 2: And then and then and then they'd always circle back
- 7:04Speaker 2: to something we'd already answered. And so, how long have
- 7:07Speaker 2: you owned this vehicle? I don't own the vehicle. It's
- 7:11Speaker 2: a hurts rental.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Wow, are you sure you're not being prank?
- 7:16Speaker 2: That's what I wonder it might be. It might be
- 7:18Speaker 2: a I'll bet it's a mister beast thing. I'll bet
- 7:20Speaker 2: it's a mister beast thing. And it's like they've all
- 7:23Speaker 2: got bets on how long before I drop an F
- 7:25Speaker 2: bomb or something?
- 7:27Speaker 1: All right?
- 7:27Speaker 3: That transgender fellows the guy who threw the rocket your
- 7:30Speaker 3: win shit right or something?
- 7:32Speaker 1: But it never happened. That's the point.
- 7:33Speaker 2: What was the fourteen year old hurt? No? No, no, no?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Oh.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yes, two of us weren't hurt, but the chipped windshield
- 7:40Speaker 2: somehow glanced him and took out.
- 7:41Speaker 3: An eye, knocked him out of his car seat. Did
- 7:46Speaker 3: the non existent ship hurt anybody?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah, my giant rabbit buddy's fighting in the back.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Carvid right.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Oh, that's infuriating, just listening to a little to be
- 8:00Speaker 2: a part of it. Yeah, I went through all the
- 8:02Speaker 2: stages of grief. The first time, I was like, I
- 8:05Speaker 2: was angry at various points, then sad, then I accepted it,
- 8:08Speaker 2: then it was humor, then back to anger. Wow, I
- 8:14Speaker 2: think it's a teenage prank.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I think this is actually a neighbor near you, Jack,
- 8:17Speaker 3: and your son is having him to call you over
- 8:19Speaker 3: and over.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
