Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: technical jackwars fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jing jack.com and fueled by brass tack coffee right now we're talking jacks training camp what else right obviously from a scheduling standpoint no practice today which I think you know everybody needs a little breather after three days and the heat and all that stuff now shells coming on tomorrow shoulder pads helmets full pads Monday full pads Tuesday then a little break on Wednesday and then
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: You're about a week away at that point from Wednesday to joint practices and then your first of preseason game and then it's Saturday, August 1st right now, I mean.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: in a month preseason and training camp will be in the books and it'll be full speed ahead towards the Cleveland Browns.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we are right there.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is an exciting time.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: At least I certainly think it is.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: I love football.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I love being able to get back out on the grass and just be around football.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: But right now we're going to do the stars of Jaguar's training camp so far and I do have a list of players here certainly.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Beyond the players, I think that the two stars I want to highlight right now that we don't really talk about as much during training camp because you're just so hyper-focused on what each individual player is doing, how they're competing, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: The coaches, I think, have been the biggest stars of camp so far.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Based on the way they are so intentional at every single
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Drill.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Every single individual period, every single special team's period, the, you know, 11 on 11's, the 7 on 7's, it's all intentional.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: It all has a purpose.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: It is all designed to help this team get better situationally.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's awesome.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, there's been a high emphasis, heavy emphasis on the run game so far on both sides of the ball.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: And look, the jacks had the best run game in football on defense last year.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're trying to continue that, but the offense is punching back and they're running the ball a lot right now.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to continue to run the ball quite a bit because quite frankly that's where Liam Cohen wants to improve the most and it's not as if there's not other areas to improve.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen's talked about it at Nazium about different things, but he really wants to develop that third personnel package that's super effective beyond 11 beyond 12.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: Whether that's 13 or 21, I personally think it's gonna be 13.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's well, we've seen a good bit of that and they drafted two tight ends this year for a reason to go with Britain's strange and Quentin Morris and Hunter Long, and so yeah, I think that probably
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: 13 personnel will be the third personnel package beyond 11 where you have three wider severs and 12 where you have two wide receiver two tight ends of running back.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're going to have three tight insets for sure with Tanner Coziel Britain Strange and obviously Nate Borkiccher, but yeah, I just think the coaches from top to bottom, you've seen Brian Picucci, I feel like having impact just in his communication out there.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: knowing exactly what Liam Cohen is looking for and then on the defensive side of the ball with Matthew Arrujo coming in as the Jack secondary a pass game coordinator.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's fiery.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: He is fiery.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's out there arguing with the revs.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's getting, I mean, to me, there's, they lead by example, and they're also extremely smart and they're also extremely passionate and I think that that
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: that's like the perfect combination of things for an NFL coaching staff.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: And they're also youthful, right?
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're youthful.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: They can relate more to a lot of the players than some of the staffs that the Jaguars have had, coaching staffs that the Jaguars have had in years past.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that honestly matters.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's not the only way for it to work, right?
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Andy reads up there and he's still done a great job.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like older coaches can get the job done, right?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think it can be an advantage for you to have a younger coaching staff, as long as that younger coaching staff has the wisdom and experience that they need, which I think the Jaguar is going to do.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it be Liam Cohen, Anthony Campanylei, which I can't really talk about what the Jaguar has been showing defensively in terms of like the actual looks, you're just not supposed to do that right now unless it's like brought up in a media session or something.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Camp will continue to confuse opposing offenses on money downs.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I can tell you that much.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: He did it last year.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna continue to do it again this year.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Worst Coaches, Kudos doing a great job.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Time to get the pads on here soon and that's gonna be fun too.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Number two here for me is James Latson.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he is a clear winner of training camp so far just based on
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: the draft picks and undrafted for agents that he has brought in.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Over the last two years, they impress.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Even amongst all these veterans that have been here, drafted by Trent Balki or signed by Trent Balki, a lot of good players, give Trent Balki some credit for bringing in some good players to Jacksonville.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, was not running a tight ship organizationally, maybe not the personality that people want to be around.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: coaches want to be with, et cetera, but you know how to evaluate some talent here and there and extended some of the right people for sure, but James Gladstone, his two draft classes,
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: draft class number one, I think overall was fairly well accepted and liked and the one thing people would say is you gave up too much for Travis Hunter.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's the case.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: Seeing that guy out there moving, playing both sides of the ball, he's a star, absolute star.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to play both sides.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like people want to be like, oh, he's only a corner.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Part-time wide receiver.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: As much as we have talked about, the Jaguar is needing him more at corner, which I still think if there is a spot where he is needed more, it is corner.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: They've got good corners beyond Travis Hunter.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Jarring Jones, Monterey Brown, Jordan Lewis, even some of the younger depth guys,
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: They've got corners that can play.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they have wider servers that can play too, but I think it's gonna be situational.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's gonna be like, can we get into this person L package on offense to take advantage of a defense?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: Does Travis Hunter help us most there in this game?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Does our opponent have, does our opponent have,
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: receivers that we just really need Travis Hunter to be on one of those guys.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: We need him to shut down one side of the field, et cetera, things like that.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: But Travis Hunter looks awesome, but some of the draft picks this year that were heavily criticized, Nate Borkerture, he's looked great, Tanner Koziel, a fifth round pick looks great.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Both of your receiver draft picks look really good.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams especially, but Josh Cameron's done good things too.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just Branson Holmes, undrafted free agent last year.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Striggle, undrafted free agent last year.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: BJ Green, undrafted free agent last year.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Zach Derfey has popped certainly in Campsofar, late-round pick for the Jack Wars this year.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's so many, I mean, Caleb Ransal has looked fantastic.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: He was almost on my, you know, stars of Jaguar's training camp so far, but I could only include so many players, but we can mention him here.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's been excellent.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Ransal, you know, he signed Eric Murray last year.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's been a very good signing so far.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone, I think he's going to be vindicated about this 2026 draft class, I think it's looking really solid so far.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: And the one player who I think I want to see a little bit more from moving forward that I haven't seen as much from in this draft class so far as Albert Regis and look, I don't have the advantage
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: or the ability to go back and watch every single play and watch every single snap.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: But this snaps where I have focused in on him versus a manual pregnant on, I think pregnant on's gotten the better of him a little bit.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Which frankly, it doesn't surprise me.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I thought pregnant on would have been drafted higher than we just but ended up being there or drafted really close together.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think Gladstone is cooking, I really do.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then getting to our players.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr. stars a camp so far from the receiver position.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned CJ Williams, he's also been a receiver that just every time his number is called, he gets the job done, whether he's sliding for a grab, catching something in between two defenders, getting open, CJ Williams has been doing a really good job.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just carried over from earlier in the off season in the spring.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's been the same.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Again, now you've got to continue with pads on, which these rookies have not played with pads in the NFL yet.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: They have not played against the vets with pads on, so there might be some welcome to the NFL moments, but yeah, CJ Williams for sure.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and I do have Caleb Ransal on my top 10 here.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: But because, yeah, I mean, he's been making plays all over the field.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: He looks incredibly athletic, dialed in, not really having any mental mistakes.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't seem like.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. catching everything he did get behind the defense once yesterday Lawrence wasn't able to connect with him and then you know the interception by Eric Murray a lot of people have said that they think that that was absolutely passing our parents on buster brown so.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think BT's been fantastic.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi continues stacking days like he did yesterday and he'll be on the list too.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: He just the first two days it can't, you know, had a couple drops.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: But probably the most buzzy name and reasonably so, basal tootin, he's been amazing.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Really good plays every single day of camp, every single day against a really good run defense.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I mean, that guy is taking full advantage of the fact that he's getting the lion's share of the carries right now.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Jarring Jones, he's been the best defensive back for the Jack Wars in camp so far, moving all around all over the place, just making plays, especially yesterday.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was like the best performance I've ever seen by a defensive back, I think, in practice.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: But that was coming off the day before where he made multiple big plays in coverage as well.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: kicking some butt.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he knows he's got a fight for reps. reps are not going to be handed out in the Jaguar secondary at corner horse safety.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he's a corner can play inside and outside, but when you've got Travis Hunter, Buster Brown, Jordan Lewis, who are probably all a little bit higher on the depth chart than Jarring Jones, he's going to have to fight to get out there.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: And he's doing exactly that.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned Caleb Ransal, he's been making a ton of plays.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars, I think, defensively will get into a lot of three safety looks.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I think even if Ransal doesn't earn a starting job that he will get on the field and he's showing his ability getting on the field right now, making plays in coverage.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a player who you have to remember, just did not miss tackles in college.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: So it is one thing to not miss tackles playing corner,
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: or playing nickel, which is what he did primarily in college, having to come from depth to make tackles as a safety at full speed.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: You might, it leads to a little bit more variance at times, but this is a guy who embraces the physicality and embraces tackling, and he also has all the athletic tools
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: to be a star.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm I'm excited to keep watching him.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Drabar Muhammad, the second year on draft of for agent corner, has been really good.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know how he wouldn't be on the roster at this point unless things change dramatically when the pads come on, which I don't expect them to.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: This guy's been playing football his whole life.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was never somebody who really shy away from contact even despite being
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: a smaller player.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, Jabarman Hammond, making plays in coverage against starters, against backups, you name it, put him out there, he's doing a good job.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then rounding it off with what has been by far the most exciting position battle in my opinion.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that is that linebacker with Branson Colms and Ventral Miller.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about them all week.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to continue talking about them.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: These guys, you would expect both of these players to really shine when the pads come on.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: Linebackers can thump a little bit, right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: not tackled to the ground, but you can thumb a little bit.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: They've both been really good in coverage.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: Branson Coleman says how to couple more mistakes in coverage, I would say, little things, but
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: like, you know, maybe getting excited and jumping a little bit too early to get a deflection or try to get an reception or just barely missing, but, you know, linebackers get targeted a lot by this offense, by design and coverage, because a lot of times, you've got advantages there.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: They've taken away that advantage for the offense in a big way.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Branson, Colms, and Ventura Miller both have interceptions.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: They both have other past breakups, and they both know how to come down, Hill, and be explosive as run defenders.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I know, I just, it's probably too early to take a victory lap.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, it's not probably too early.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: It is way too early.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: But for everybody out there who was saying, how do you replace Devin Lloyd?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: This defense isn't going to be as good without Devon Lloyd.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: Branson comes amid trauma or complay.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: For everybody who's out there saying, you know, Travis, A-chan, how are you going to operate this offense without him?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: Bacial Tutan can play.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't even seen Chris Rodriguez yet.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, they went and got
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, Jamari Taylor and on draft for free agency too, and Lee Quang Allen is still there like, they've got dudes for sure.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm very encouraged by what I've seen so far.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get the pads on and see how it continues to roll.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a great one.
