- 0:49Speaker 4: Walk up.
- 1:08Speaker 2: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 1:10Speaker 2: Radiant Dentistry. Why are we playing the James Bond theme?
- 1:14Speaker 2: 64 years ago today, Honey Rider walked out of the
- 1:26Speaker 2: Caribbean with that bikini on and Ursula Andress became a
- 1:32Speaker 2: star and Sean Connery introduced himself to the world as Bond,
- 1:40Speaker 2: James Bond. The first of 25 official James Bond films.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Six different actors, generations of villains, Bond girls, gadgets, cars,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and one of the most recognizable movie characters ever created.
- 2:05Speaker 2: 64 years ago today.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Stan remembers that moment, I know. Welcome in. Glad to
- 2:16Speaker 5: have you with us.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Got a lot of football. It's that time of year.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We're going to hear from Mike Elko. We're going to
- 2:22Speaker 2: talk playoff baseball. Kicker David Alano is scheduled. Perhaps another
- 2:30Speaker 2: Aggie player or two. And in the second hour, I'll
- 2:34Speaker 2: be joined by Robert Cessna and Rusty Burson with the
- 2:38Speaker 2: Writers' Roundtable for a Monday. And we're going to crown
- 2:45Speaker 2: our Week 5 Friday's Fearless winner coming up. We had several.
- 2:52Speaker 2: It must not have been a tough week at all.
- 2:55Speaker 2: We had several of you undefeated. And because one of
- 3:01Speaker 2: our own here, Caleb Rapoli, who you hear on Fridays,
- 3:07Speaker 2: went 10-0, he can't win the prizes. But we had
- 3:12Speaker 2: a couple more go 10-0. One of them is going
- 3:17Speaker 2: to win a valuable weekly prize. And again, we'll be
- 3:22Speaker 2: on to week number six. So We've got that going
- 3:27Speaker 2: on for us, which is nice. The Aggie football team,
- 3:31Speaker 2: now 3-2 after its win over the Piggy people on
- 3:38Speaker 2: Saturday evening. A little better look for the Aggies. We're
- 3:44Speaker 2: going to talk more about that, obviously, coming up. But
- 3:48Speaker 2: the team they play Saturday is much better.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Missouri.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Will be the team of record on Saturday. And the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Tigers moved up to number 14 this week with a
- 4:09Speaker 2: convincing win over Florida.
- 4:13Speaker 5: My goodness, they were good.
- 4:16Speaker 2: We will talk more about that.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Again coming up.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And Graduate place kicker David Alano, the SEC Special Teams
- 4:28Speaker 2: Player of the Week, with not one, but two field
- 4:33Speaker 2: goals over 50. A 50-yarder and a 57-yarder as time
- 4:40Speaker 2: expired in the first half. The longest by an A
- 4:43Speaker 2: & M kicker since Terrence Kitchens booted one 62 yards
- 4:48Speaker 2: in 1999. He now has three over 50 this year.
- 4:57Speaker 2: He is seven for seven. He has been a really
- 5:03Speaker 2: nice pickup for Mike Elko and the staff. Normally, the
- 5:12Speaker 2: big game in the SEC upcoming would be in the
- 5:17Speaker 2: Cotton Bowl this week, but it's not. Texas is number one,
- 5:22Speaker 2: but the Sooners are unranked at 2-2, and the big
- 5:26Speaker 2: game will take place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the sixth-ranked
- 5:33Speaker 2: Tide hosts number two, Georgia. That game will be Saturday evening.
- 5:43Speaker 2: So we got that going for us. By the way,
- 5:46Speaker 2: the A & M- Missouri game.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Is an 11 a.m. kick on a.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Ole Miss star running back Kiwan Lacy is expected back
- 5:57Speaker 2: for Saturday's game at Vanderbilt, according to Pete Golding. Lacy
- 6:04Speaker 2: missed the Rebels' 52-28 loss at Florida due to an injury.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Pete Golding said he will lean on rotating his running
- 6:16Speaker 2: backs against the Commodores. It will depend how healthy Lacey is.
- 6:23Speaker 2: He said even coming back, he's not going to take
- 6:26Speaker 2: the toll of 40 to 50 snaps. They need Kiwan
- 6:31Speaker 2: Lacey in the lineup. Playoff baseball is underway right now
- 6:39Speaker 2: in Cleveland, where the White Sox and Guardians have just
- 6:44Speaker 2: started game one. Um.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Did I say game one? No, game two. Chicago won
- 6:55Speaker 5: game one. They're up one game to none.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Game two, Yankees-Rays coming up tonight in Tampa. So we'll
- 7:10Speaker 2: see what happens there. Yesterday, Brewers beat the Padres 4-3
- 7:17Speaker 2: to take a 2-0 lead in that series. They got
- 7:23Speaker 2: a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And the Braves evened up their series with the Dodgers
- 7:36Speaker 2: going back to Atlanta.
- 7:38Speaker 5: They win 3-2.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Chris Sale is scheduled to be on the mound for
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Braves tomorrow. The Grade 8 says this will be
- 7:52Speaker 2: his final season in hockey. Alex Ovechkin announcing this is it.
- 7:59Speaker 2: The Washington Capitals captain released a statement through the team saying,
- 8:04Speaker 2: I know in my heart it's the right decision. The
- 8:08Speaker 2: 41-year-old beginning his 22nd NHL season. The all-time career-leading goal-maker.
- 8:20Speaker 2: with 929 career goals. He signed a one-year deal over
- 8:27Speaker 2: the summer to return after playing all 82 games last
- 8:32Speaker 2: year and leading the team with 32 goals and 64 points.
- 8:39Speaker 8: And the.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Dallas Stars searching for their first win of the season.
- 8:47Speaker 2: They have been terrible. so far. 0-2. Terrible. Did I
- 8:55Speaker 2: mention that? They are home tonight against the San Jose.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Sharks, who are 2-0.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I know it's hard to say two games in they
- 9:08Speaker 2: really need a win, but the Dallas Stars really need
- 9:13Speaker 2: a win. They have played terrible.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Did I mention that? I think I did. I think
- 9:21Speaker 5: I said they were terrible.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Good gosh. My only remaining hope in the Metroplex was
- 9:31Speaker 2: the Dallas Stars. And they're kind of like the Rangers
- 9:36Speaker 2: so far. They're sucking the life out of me. Look,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I don't really care about the Cowboys anymore. But they
- 9:46Speaker 2: did beat the Oilers yesterday.
- 9:48Speaker 9: And I am.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Happy about that. Anytime a Houston team goes down, that's good.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Have you checked out.
- 9:58Speaker 5: The AP poll? Let's see.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Let me just go from bottom to top and mention
- 10:06Speaker 2: teams from the state of Texas. SMU's 24, and Houston
- 10:12Speaker 2: is 22. In the SEC, you've got Mississippi State at 17,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Florida 16, Tennessee 15, Missouri 14. You've got Texas Tech
- 10:27Speaker 2: at 11 in the Big 12. You've got LSU at 10,
- 10:31Speaker 2: Ole Miss at 9, then BYU, Indiana 11, Alabama is six.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Ohio State is five. Miami is four. I still think
- 10:44Speaker 2: they're the best team. Notre Dame is three. Georgia is two.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And Texas is still number one. So you've got, let's see, one,
- 10:54Speaker 2: how many? Nine SEC teams. That's pretty good. Tech and
- 11:01Speaker 2: BYU don't play this year, by the way. But BYU
- 11:03Speaker 2: and Utah play.
- 11:06Speaker 10: So.
- 11:07Speaker 5: We've got that going for us, which is nice.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:13Speaker 2: We're going to come back and hand out a prize.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And then we're going to hear from Mike Elko. We
- 11:23Speaker 2: have got stuff going on here on the show.
- 11:28Speaker 5: So stay with us.
- 11:31Speaker 2: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 11:34Speaker 2: Chad Jones Law.
- 11:36Speaker 11: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 11:39Speaker 11: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 11:41Speaker 11: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 11:43Speaker 11: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left
- 11:46Speaker 11: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 11:48Speaker 11: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've

- 12:06Speaker 12: It's Tech Sags Live brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers.
- 12:08Speaker 5: David, I'm going to be real honest here.
- 12:10Speaker 8: Be real honest.
- 12:11Speaker 13: I don't even think at a concert, I don't even
- 12:14Speaker 13: think that you'd sing along out loud. I don't think
- 12:17Speaker 13: you'd allow yourself the joy. You'd be too worried about
- 12:21Speaker 13: like what it would look like or too worried about
- 12:24Speaker 13: who would, you know, if that would burn too many
- 12:28Speaker 13: macros than what you had scheduled for the day for
- 12:31Speaker 13: calories burned.
- 12:32Speaker 14: I would be.
- 12:33Speaker 13: Worried that you wouldn't just even sit there and belt
- 12:36Speaker 13: out at the top of your lungs.
- 12:37Speaker 2: A thousand percent I would sing Oasis songs.
- 12:40Speaker 10: Kanye, Oasis.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Slip inside the eye of your mind. And I'd look
- 12:44Speaker 5: over and you'd be going like this. A better day.
- 12:47Speaker 2: There you go.
- 12:48Speaker 8: I waited for that part.
- 12:49Speaker 13: You got the words wrong.
- 12:50Speaker 15: No, it's not.
- 12:51Speaker 8: There's lyrics in between.
- 12:52Speaker 10: Oh, you waited.
- 12:53Speaker 16: You tied it.
- 12:54Speaker 17: Okay.
- 12:55Speaker 6: A better day.
- 12:56Speaker 18: Better place to play.
- 12:58Speaker 5: It's not even a better day, actually. You did screw
- 13:00Speaker 5: it up. Tech Sacks Live, brought to you by David
- 13:02Speaker 5: Gardner's Jewelers.
- 13:03Speaker 19: Hangout weekdays from 8 to 11 on The Zone.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Friday's fearless football forecast contest is brought to you by
- 13:16Speaker 2: Chad Jones Law and Zwirneman Flooring.
- 13:23Speaker 10: No, okay.
- 13:24Speaker 20: No?
- 13:25Speaker 2: Okay. Uh... Let me give you the games for week six.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Can I?
- 13:29Speaker 2: The tiebreaker game is Georgia, Alabama. Rudder and Belton. Consolidated
- 13:37Speaker 2: at Pflugerville-Weiss. A & M, Missouri. Texas, Oklahoma. UCLA, Oregon. Houston,
- 13:47Speaker 2: Kansas State. Florida State, Louisville. Boise State and Fresno State.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And the Texans at the Titans. Look, I didn't do
- 13:59Speaker 2: the Cowboys this week because they're Thursday night. And I
- 14:03Speaker 2: wasn't ready to do a short week yet. We'll do
- 14:07Speaker 2: short weeks, but it just wasn't that important for me
- 14:11Speaker 2: to have the Cowboys on. So I threw in another
- 14:13Speaker 2: college game. I hope it's harder this week than it
- 14:17Speaker 2: was last week. Because I went 9-1, so you know
- 14:22Speaker 2: it was easy. We had several people undefeated. I mentioned
- 14:27Speaker 2: before the break, our own Caleb Rapoli won the tiebreaker undefeated,
- 14:33Speaker 2: but he didn't get to win anything as an employee
- 14:36Speaker 2: of Byron Broadcasting.
- 14:39Speaker 5: So, our winner this week is Ronnie Rose. Ronnie went 10-0.
- 14:47Speaker 2: If you know Ronnie, call him up and tell him, hey,
- 14:52Speaker 2: somebody's talking about you on the radio. But Ronnie is
- 14:57Speaker 2: our weekly winner. He's going to get... Oh, he's going
- 15:04Speaker 2: to get a $ 50.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Gift certificate from Rudy's Barbecue. Okay?
- 15:09Speaker 2: So congratulations to Ronnie Rose for going 10-0 and winning
- 15:13Speaker 2: the tiebreaker among three or four others that were also undefeated. Hey,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I'm only four picks back. That's pretty good right now.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And I've got my eyes... To be on the cup again.
- 15:28Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I won my own contest.
- 15:34Speaker 5: A long time. So, we're going to see. You know
- 15:38Speaker 5: who's tied, I think, for the lead or close to it?
- 15:43Speaker 5: Our own Robert Cessna of the Eagle.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He's winning his own contest with the Eagle, and he's
- 15:50Speaker 2: right there with my contest, too. Man, that's not good.
- 15:57Speaker 2: All right. Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest. Make your picks
- 16:00Speaker 2: between now and 5 p.m. Friday afternoon. It's a division
- 16:04Speaker 2: of Sports Talk. America's Most Loved Football Pick'em Contest brought
- 16:08Speaker 2: to you by Zwernem and Flooring and Chad Jones Law.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Earlier this afternoon, not that much earlier, but earlier, about 1.35-ish
- 16:20Speaker 2: this afternoon, we carried Mike Elko's News Conference Live, the
- 16:26Speaker 2: way we do every Monday during the football season. And
- 16:31Speaker 2: I'm going to play some of it today because I
- 16:37Speaker 2: know for a fact a few of you people that
- 16:41Speaker 2: listen have jobs.
- 16:43Speaker 5: And you can't always be.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Tuned in in the middle of the afternoon because you're
- 16:50Speaker 2: working and doing other things. So Let's hear a little
- 16:54Speaker 2: bit from Coach Elko.
- 16:57Speaker 17: Obviously wrapping up Saturday night, it was great to get
- 17:00Speaker 17: an SEC win. obviously to create some positive momentum as
- 17:04Speaker 17: we head into the middle part of the schedule and
- 17:07Speaker 17: start getting into the middle of SEC play. Wrapping up
- 17:10Speaker 17: our players of the game, offensive scout team of the
- 17:13Speaker 17: week went to Ryan Burton. Defensive scout team of the
- 17:16Speaker 17: week went to Samu Mawala. Special team scout team of
- 17:20Speaker 17: the week was Peyton Gay. Those guys continue to do
- 17:22Speaker 17: a great job for us.
- 17:24Speaker 10: Our offensive lineman of the week was Wilkin Formby.
- 17:27Speaker 17: I told him this this morning, really just proud of
- 17:29Speaker 17: how he's embraced having a slide inside the guard, which
- 17:33Speaker 17: we thought gave us a little bit more solidified interior
- 17:36Speaker 17: and got Lamont Rogers an opportunity to get on the field,
- 17:39Speaker 17: which we thought was really important. And so played really,
- 17:42Speaker 17: really well the other night. Defensive lineman of the week
- 17:44Speaker 17: again was TJ Searcy. Again, I think not necessarily always
- 17:49Speaker 17: showing up in the stat column, but just what he
- 17:51Speaker 17: does at the point of attack in the run game
- 17:53Speaker 17: and from an assignment execution standpoint is really, really high.
- 17:56Speaker 17: And then obviously made the one big play running down
- 17:59Speaker 17: the quarterback on the last fourth down of the game
- 18:01Speaker 17: to get us off the field and really, truly put
- 18:03Speaker 17: the game away.
- 18:05Speaker 10: Players of the week, offensively, we went with K.J.
- 18:08Speaker 17: Edwards, 66 yards and 11 carries for two touchdowns. It
- 18:11Speaker 17: was great to see him get some more opportunities, be
- 18:14Speaker 17: able to get out there healthy and really kind of
- 18:17Speaker 17: start to show what he's really capable of and so
- 18:19Speaker 17: excited for him as he continues to grow into this thing. Defensively,
- 18:23Speaker 17: Tawfiq Bayard led the team of tackles with six. Really
- 18:27Speaker 17: healthy now, kind of for the first time, and so
- 18:29Speaker 17: it was great to get him out there and continue
- 18:32Speaker 17: to enhance his role as we go into this thing.
- 18:35Speaker 17: Special teams was pretty easy. Obviously went with David Alano,
- 18:38Speaker 17: who had a really good night, kicking two for two
- 18:40Speaker 17: and plus 50. He was also named SEC Special Teams
- 18:44Speaker 17: Player of the Week today, too, and so congratulations to
- 18:46Speaker 17: him for that. And I think the story of the
- 18:50Speaker 17: game was really simple. I thought we did the things
- 18:52Speaker 17: you need to do to win football games. We won
- 18:54Speaker 17: the turnover margin. We were really good on third down.
- 18:57Speaker 17: We were really good getting off the field on third down.
- 19:00Speaker 10: We did a really good.
- 19:01Speaker 17: Job scoring touchdowns in the red zone. We didn't give
- 19:04Speaker 17: up the touchdown in the red zone the one time
- 19:05Speaker 17: they got in it. When you're able to play like that,
- 19:08Speaker 17: you're going to be able to win football games. It's
- 19:10Speaker 17: nice to have an Arkansas game not come down to
- 19:12Speaker 17: the wire like every other one that I've been part
- 19:15Speaker 17: of has. Now we turn our attention to a really
- 19:18Speaker 17: good Missouri team and a really big challenge and big opportunity.
- 19:21Speaker 10: For us in Missouri this week. From there, we'll open
- 19:24Speaker 10: it up to questions.
- 19:25Speaker 21: We'll go right to David to start.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Coach Uckel, you had mentioned improvement in the offensive line
- 19:30Speaker 4: and the two losses.
- 19:31Speaker 21: What seemed to be working this weekend, and how much
- 19:34Speaker 21: improvement have you seen?
- 19:35Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I do think they've gotten better. I
- 19:37Speaker 10: think they're gelling more.
- 19:38Speaker 17: I think they're starting to understand playing together more, you know,
- 19:41Speaker 17: being able to establish the run. I thought our run
- 19:44Speaker 17: averages and run efficiencies were obviously a lot higher. We've
- 19:47Speaker 17: done a better job protecting Marcel with the exception of
- 19:50Speaker 17: the end of the LSU game when we were forced
- 19:53Speaker 17: to throw as much as we were. We've done a
- 19:55Speaker 17: better job of creating clean pockets and time for him
- 19:57Speaker 17: to throw the football. Again, there's a lot of growth
- 20:01Speaker 17: still to be made and still to be done, but
- 20:03Speaker 17: it is good to see that group coming together and
- 20:06Speaker 17: getting better every week.
- 20:07Speaker 21: We'll stay to the right, all the way in the back.
- 20:09Speaker 8: Chip?
- 20:09Speaker 7: Mike, I'm wondering if you could speak to Missouri's ability
- 20:12Speaker 7: to shut down the Florida run game this last week,
- 20:15Speaker 7: and then on the other side of the ball, their
- 20:18Speaker 7: balance and how well they were able to run the football.
- 20:21Speaker 10: Yeah, I think they're playing really, really good football.
- 20:24Speaker 17: They're 12th in the country, only giving up 2.6 yards
- 20:26Speaker 17: to carry, and so they've been really, really effective stopping
- 20:30Speaker 17: the run and You know, obviously did a really, really
- 20:32Speaker 17: good job against an elite tailback last week and shutting
- 20:36Speaker 17: him down, which nobody has really been able.
- 20:38Speaker 10: To do so far.
- 20:39Speaker 17: And then offensively, I think it starts with the quarterback.
- 20:42Speaker 17: He's playing elite football, you know, really, really running the
- 20:46Speaker 17: offense at a high, high level. And then because of that,
- 20:49Speaker 17: you've got skill kids on the outside that can create
- 20:52Speaker 17: separation and get open and a really talented running back.
- 20:54Speaker 17: And so they stress you in a lot of different ways.
- 20:57Speaker 17: And so it'll be a big challenge for Saturday for sure.
- 21:00Speaker 21: We'll go to the front row on the right, Carter.
- 21:03Speaker 16: Mike, the move in particular to have Formby at guard
- 21:06Speaker 16: and Rodgers elevated, what has that done for you guys
- 21:09Speaker 16: from a run-blocking standpoint?
- 21:11Speaker 10: Yeah, I just think Lamont was playing at a good level.
- 21:14Speaker 17: I think he's got more of an ability physically to
- 21:16Speaker 17: move people, and we think Wilkin can play tackle or guard,
- 21:21Speaker 17: and I think he's a physical– Lineman, I think that's
- 21:24Speaker 17: his skill set as well.
- 21:26Speaker 10: I just think.
- 21:27Speaker 17: Maybe it's allowed us to get a little bit more
- 21:30Speaker 17: mass and physicality across the front line.
- 21:33Speaker 10: So far, that's worked the way we wanted it to.
- 21:36Speaker 16: And with Bayard healthy now, playing well, what will that
- 21:39Speaker 16: do for you guys, having more of maybe a rotation there?
- 21:42Speaker 16: Will that help Dalton and Marcus, and what will that
- 21:45Speaker 16: kind of do for you all?
- 21:46Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean, I think competition always helps. Obviously, Tawfiq
- 21:48Speaker 17: was a kid that we had a lot of confidence
- 21:50Speaker 17: in when we brought here. He went through some injuries
- 21:53Speaker 17: in the spring, went through some injuries in fall camp.
- 21:56Speaker 17: then re-aggravated himself again right as we were headed into
- 21:59Speaker 17: the season. And so it's just good to see him
- 22:02Speaker 17: finally healthy and playing as the player that we hoped
- 22:05Speaker 17: he could be when.
- 22:05Speaker 10: He got here.
- 22:06Speaker 17: And so that will continue to earn him more opportunities,
- 22:09Speaker 17: and competition always raises the level of play, I think.
- 22:13Speaker 21: We'll stay on the right second row, Olin.
- 22:15Speaker 9: Yeah, Mike, first of all, as far as KJ goes,
- 22:18Speaker 9: it's obvious he can really run the ball well. How
- 22:21Speaker 9: comfortable are you with him when he's in there with
- 22:24Speaker 9: the other things that you have to do as a
- 22:25Speaker 9: running back?
- 22:26Speaker 10: Yeah, we wouldn't play him if we weren't.
- 22:28Speaker 17: And so I think credit him to rising to the challenge.
- 22:32Speaker 17: Credit Troop for making sure that that's the culture.
- 22:35Speaker 10: Within the running back room.
- 22:36Speaker 17: And so it gets really hard in this conference if
- 22:39Speaker 17: you just throw him out there to run the ball well.
- 22:41Speaker 17: And every time he's out there, you're giving it to him, right?
- 22:43Speaker 17: You can't get away with that in this league. And
- 22:45Speaker 17: so he's got to be able to do it all
- 22:47Speaker 17: in order for him to be on the field. And
- 22:49Speaker 17: so there were a couple times where he picked up
- 22:51Speaker 17: some blitzes on Saturday night, did a really good job
- 22:53Speaker 17: putting his face in there. I think his form and
- 22:54Speaker 17: technique is getting really better, and he's certainly willing to
- 22:58Speaker 17: be physical and do those things.
- 22:59Speaker 10: And so he's just got to keep working and getting better.
- 23:01Speaker 9: And Landon, getting into the starting lineup, first of all,
- 23:05Speaker 9: what– What did you see that said, hey, it's time
- 23:09Speaker 9: for him to get that shot, and just your evaluation
- 23:12Speaker 9: of his performance the other night?
- 23:13Speaker 10: Yeah, I think he continues to get better, continues to grow.
- 23:16Speaker 17: Obviously a young kid that we had a lot of
- 23:19Speaker 17: expectations for this year, and I think he's taken the
- 23:22Speaker 17: most of his opportunities, and we felt like earned the
- 23:24Speaker 17: right to go out there with the first group on Saturday,
- 23:26Speaker 17: and I think he responded and played a really good game.
- 23:29Speaker 21: We'll go over to the left, second row, Alex. I
- 23:32Speaker 21: also wanted to ask you about Lamont.
- 23:34Speaker 22: What do you just remember about his recruitment, maybe what
- 23:36Speaker 22: drew you all to him at first, and just being
- 23:38Speaker 22: able to get him in the boat right before the
- 23:40Speaker 22: signing period there that year?
- 23:42Speaker 17: Yeah, I think from our perspective, he was one of
- 23:45Speaker 17: the best in-state tackles that year, really athletic, and we
- 23:49Speaker 17: felt like he had a lot of growth potential. He
- 23:51Speaker 17: was a basketball player, had kind of been a dual-sport kid,
- 23:54Speaker 17: and so hadn't really fully committed all into football. And
- 23:58Speaker 17: so we saw what he was, and we also, I think,
- 24:01Speaker 17: felt like projecting what that could be was going to
- 24:04Speaker 17: be really, really good.
- 24:07Speaker 10: Great family.
- 24:07Speaker 17: We continued to recruit them all the way through and
- 24:10Speaker 17: ultimately were able to land them at the end, which
- 24:12Speaker 17: was really critical for us and our class. Since he's
- 24:15Speaker 17: been here, it's just been awesome to see his growth.
- 24:17Speaker 17: I think he's really matured as a football player. I
- 24:19Speaker 17: think he's matured as a young man. I think he's
- 24:22Speaker 17: really grown into who he is, his self-confidence, everything. And
- 24:25Speaker 17: so it's really great to see him having success because
- 24:29Speaker 17: you love that for kids who believe in you and
- 24:31Speaker 17: put so much work into it.
- 24:32Speaker 10: You love when you see them awarded like that.
- 24:34Speaker 8: All right.
- 24:35Speaker 2: That's part of what Mike Elko had to say today,
- 24:39Speaker 2: answering questions from Saturday and getting ready for this week
- 24:44Speaker 2: to go to Columbia Park.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Or the 11 a.m. kickoff.
- 24:50Speaker 2: And Landon Rink, he just spoke about, and moving him
- 24:56Speaker 2: into position to.
- 24:58Speaker 5: Get playing time. And I was looking.
- 25:03Speaker 2: At some stats here in just a minute. And he
- 25:10Speaker 2: had four tackles, but one and a half tackles for
- 25:16Speaker 2: losses so he made his presence felt among the front
- 25:21Speaker 2: he was he was the leading guys up front for
- 25:24Speaker 2: sure and let's hear from Landon Rink post-game Saturday.
- 25:32Speaker 22: Landon after they scored the touchdown why do you think
- 25:35Speaker 22: you guys were able to you know really come together
- 25:39Speaker 22: on defense and kind of hold them at bay the
- 25:41Speaker 22: rest of the evening.
- 25:43Speaker 18: I feel like we just had the mindset that we
- 25:45Speaker 18: needed to respond. We've been really hammering in with Coach
- 25:52Speaker 18: Elko's meetings or our chapel that we need to respond
- 25:58Speaker 18: with adversity. What were we going to do when adversity strikes?
- 26:01Speaker 18: That was just a little bit of adversity, and we
- 26:02Speaker 18: fought through it.
- 26:04Speaker 23: Left side on the right.
- 26:07Speaker 8: What has kind of the last week been like for y'all,
- 26:10Speaker 8: and how important was it to really come out strong
- 26:12Speaker 8: defensively to start today?
- 26:15Speaker 18: The last week, I feel like, has probably been our
- 26:18Speaker 18: best practice in a while, our best practices.
- 26:20Speaker 10: In a while.
- 26:22Speaker 18: We've kind of just all just went out there and
- 26:25Speaker 18: trusted our coaches and tried our hardest during practice and grinded.
- 26:30Speaker 23: Left side with Travis? Right side.
- 26:32Speaker 10: And do you?
- 26:33Speaker 14: Did the scheme this time give you all a little
- 26:36Speaker 14: bit more help getting pressure in? And when you do
- 26:39Speaker 14: have some guys blitzing out, how much does that help
- 26:41Speaker 14: you all on the front getting to the quarterback?
- 26:44Speaker 23: Oh, yeah, 1,000%.
- 26:45Speaker 18: I feel like I trust in Coach Elko and Coach
- 26:47Speaker 18: Hemphill's plan 1,000%.
- 26:48Speaker 8: I feel like they're.
- 26:50Speaker 18: Putting us in the right spots and giving us the
- 26:53Speaker 18: right opportunities to put pressure on the quarterback every time.
- 26:55Speaker 14: And how did you feel like y'all's secondary was able
- 26:57Speaker 14: to bounce back after the last couple games?
- 27:00Speaker 18: I feel like our secondary played amazing, you know, They responded,
- 27:04Speaker 18: just like I said earlier, and they played a great game.
- 27:07Speaker 23: Left side with Alex.
- 27:08Speaker 22: Can you take us through kind of that goal line
- 27:12Speaker 22: stand you guys had? Did you feel like that was
- 27:14Speaker 22: kind of when the straw broke the camel's back for
- 27:16Speaker 22: their morale?
- 27:18Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean, they were just itching for any sort
- 27:21Speaker 18: of motivation. So when they got to the goal line,
- 27:26Speaker 18: they were probably a little excited. We came out there
- 27:29Speaker 18: and we put our best effort and we stopped them.
- 27:33Speaker 22: What do you think a win like this can just
- 27:35Speaker 22: do for your guys' morale after two really frustrating weeks?
- 27:40Speaker 18: I feel like it can really just boost the whole
- 27:43Speaker 18: team and show us what we can really do when
- 27:45Speaker 18: we're all on the right page and firing on all cylinders.
- 27:49Speaker 23: Anything else for Len? Right side with Peter.
- 27:54Speaker 4: What was it like having a guy who can knock
- 27:55Speaker 4: it in from 57 yards away?
- 27:58Speaker 18: I love David Alano. That's... You know like the Avengers
- 28:02Speaker 18: meme where it's like we have a Hulk? It's like
- 28:04Speaker 18: we have a David Alano.
- 28:08Speaker 23: We'll wrap left side with Alex. Second row.
- 28:14Speaker 22: Were you part of the mob that went and celebrated
- 28:16Speaker 22: with him on the field at the end of that half?
- 28:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 10: I had my helmet off.
- 28:21Speaker 18: I was screaming. I was freaking out.
- 28:23Speaker 23: That was awesome.
- 28:25Speaker 22: Can you tell us what it's been like going against K.J.
- 28:28Speaker 22: Edwards and Carson Baker? Why have they been so effective
- 28:31Speaker 22: so far as young running backs?
- 28:34Speaker 8: Those dudes are amazing.
- 28:36Speaker 23: Those dudes are awesome.
- 28:37Speaker 18: They come in every day. They work their hardest. They
- 28:40Speaker 18: don't ask for anything. They go to work and they
- 28:42Speaker 18: put their head down. They're ballers straight up.
- 28:46Speaker 23: Left side, front row.
- 28:50Speaker 24: How cathartic was it for you to have a couple
- 28:52Speaker 24: of key plays there, especially at the line of scrimmage,
- 28:53Speaker 24: the fourth down and all those things, especially after the
- 28:56Speaker 24: past couple weeks of struggling along the front seven?
- 28:58Speaker 18: I feel like our coaches just put us in the
- 29:03Speaker 18: right spots, the right opportunities and gave us chances to
- 29:08Speaker 18: go out there and execute. I feel like we dominated that.
- 29:11Speaker 23: We'll wrap things up with John on the right side.
- 29:13Speaker 25: Landon, a really proud history of defensive linemen at Texas
- 29:16Speaker 25: A & M. Talk about the guys that mentor you
- 29:19Speaker 25: in that defensive tackle room guys like David Hicks who
- 29:22Speaker 25: have been here for four years and guys that have
- 29:24Speaker 25: come in from other places like Sam Mapimba and what
- 29:27Speaker 25: they've helped you growing in your.
- 29:28Speaker 18: Game you know I definitely I wouldn't be the player
- 29:31Speaker 18: I am without the guys in the room you know
- 29:34Speaker 18: even last year you know with T.O. and Regis and
- 29:37Speaker 18: Cassius and then they brought in C.J. and Jello and B.D.
- 29:43Speaker 18: It's really just helped me elevate my game. You know, going,
- 29:46Speaker 18: practicing with such great players that you have to compete because,
- 29:50Speaker 18: I mean, I want to play. And to try and
- 29:53Speaker 18: play over those guys is really hard because they're all
- 29:55Speaker 18: amazing players.
- 29:56Speaker 5: So Landon Rink out of Cyfair.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Got extended playing time, and it paid off on Saturday.
- 30:06Speaker 2: A couple of guys in and out that we haven't
- 30:11Speaker 2: seen quite as much that stood out. We'll talk with
- 30:15Speaker 2: the writers about that coming up. Cleveland leading the White
- 30:21Speaker 2: Sox 2-0 with a two-run pitcher's throwing error right now.
- 30:28Speaker 2: is the difference in that game. Okay, we're going to
- 30:31Speaker 2: take a break.
- 30:32Speaker 5: We're going to come back. We're going to talk a
- 30:33Speaker 5: little baseball.
- 30:34Speaker 2: We're going to talk some National League playoff baseball with
- 30:37Speaker 2: the Dodgers Braves. I want to remind you that Sepchak
- 30:42Speaker 2: Service Center is open right now until 6 o'clock. You
- 30:45Speaker 2: can go by, fill up with gas, go out front
- 30:50Speaker 2: and say, hey, my windshield whoppers didn't work this weekend.
- 30:53Speaker 5: I need some new ones. They'll put them on while
- 30:56Speaker 5: you wait. You don't even have to get out of
- 30:57Speaker 5: the car there.
- 31:00Speaker 2: If you've got more serious issues, go talk to Pat
- 31:03Speaker 2: and the staff and let them take care of you
- 31:05Speaker 2: the way they've been doing for well over 50 years
- 31:09Speaker 2: in our community, whether it's a gasoline or diesel engine
- 31:12Speaker 2: or foreign or domestic car. There's no better place to
- 31:16Speaker 2: go for emergencies like flat tires and dead batteries. They
- 31:20Speaker 2: deal with this stuff every day. And, of course, you
- 31:23Speaker 2: can get your oil changed around back as well.
- 31:26Speaker 5: They're open.
- 31:26Speaker 2: The garage area is open 7 to 6, Monday through Friday,
- 31:31Speaker 2: 7 to 4 on Saturdays. It's Sebchek's Service Center, 2200 Longmire,
- 31:37Speaker 2: just down from the post office in College Station.

- 33:12Speaker 1: You need cool air.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Baby, I'm not fooling.
- 33:18Speaker 23: I'm gonna send you.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Back to school air.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Waiting.
- 33:26Speaker 22: Hey, thanks for being with us on this Monday.
- 33:31Speaker 27: And coming up, we'll have the Writer's Roundtable, 2-0-0.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Cleveland over the White Sox. And yesterday and last night,
- 34:01Speaker 2: two really good games. Brewers beat the Padres 4-3. Michael
- 34:07Speaker 2: Harris with the big base hit. Dodgers braves in that one.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And that one finished 3-2. So the Braves even it up,
- 34:21Speaker 2: and they've got Chris Sale going in their next game.
- 34:23Speaker 2: So they're feeling pretty good going home. And I'm telling you,
- 34:27Speaker 2: these short series, I'm watching these managers, and it's like,
- 34:34Speaker 2: what just happened in this last inning? So the Cleveland
- 34:42Speaker 2: Indians get runners on, and The manager comes out and
- 34:50Speaker 2: he puts another pitcher in. And it's like, that didn't
- 34:56Speaker 2: work out. But they're managing like every game is game seven,
- 35:02Speaker 2: which in a short series it can be. So we're
- 35:06Speaker 2: going to hear first from Walt Weiss, who pulled all
- 35:10Speaker 2: the right strings yesterday against Dave Roberts and the Dodgers
- 35:15Speaker 2: with his pitching.
- 35:18Speaker 10: Huge.
- 35:20Speaker 6: Getting the split in this place against these guys. Yeah,
- 35:25Speaker 6: it's awesome. So, look, I mean, yesterday we talked about
- 35:30Speaker 6: our pen being not at full strength and not being
- 35:36Speaker 6: in a position to chase a game from behind yesterday.
- 35:39Speaker 6: And I think losing the way we did yesterday allowed
- 35:43Speaker 6: us to do what we did tonight and gain the split. And, look,
- 35:46Speaker 6: you want to win every game, obviously. We also have
- 35:50Speaker 6: to think about how to win a series. So, you know,
- 35:55Speaker 6: you have to take all those things into consideration. You know,
- 35:58Speaker 6: when I went to him in the sixth, I was
- 36:01Speaker 6: thinking I got to get the last four innings between
- 36:04Speaker 6: him and Iglesias. To be honest with you, I thought
- 36:06Speaker 6: it would probably be most likely two and two. Didi
- 36:08Speaker 6: was throwing the ball so well, I didn't want to
- 36:10Speaker 6: mess with that. You know, after his third inning, I
- 36:12Speaker 6: kind of looked at our pitching coach. I'm like, go
- 36:14Speaker 6: see how he feels. You know, if he feels good enough,
- 36:17Speaker 6: I'm going to send him back out. And I just
- 36:19Speaker 6: didn't want to mess with a good thing. He was
- 36:21Speaker 6: throwing the ball really well. Yeah, Michael had a great game, man. Yeah, look, postseason,
- 36:25Speaker 6: you never know what's going to happen. There's no blueprint.
- 36:28Speaker 6: There's no playbook. There seems to always be unsung heroes
- 36:33Speaker 6: in the postseason. Michael's been a good player all year.
- 36:36Speaker 6: The top half of our lineup is really good. It's dangerous.
- 36:38Speaker 6: If those guys have a quiet night, most likely it's
- 36:41Speaker 6: going to be someone else. And tonight it was Michael Harris.
- 36:43Speaker 6: Suarez has been out for three months with an elbow issue.
- 36:49Speaker 6: And he threw two innings the last week of the
- 36:52Speaker 6: regular season. And he looked good. He gave up a run,
- 36:55Speaker 6: I think, in each outing. But the ball was coming
- 36:59Speaker 6: out well. So there's a little bit of unknown there
- 37:03Speaker 6: with Suarez coming into this, the postseason, you know, the
- 37:07Speaker 6: Philly series and now this one. But you know the
- 37:09Speaker 6: upside is huge. And he looked like.
- 37:15Speaker 8: Vintage Suarez.
- 37:16Speaker 6: Suarez, and that was a huge spot right there. First
- 37:19Speaker 6: and second, nobody out to come in and put that
- 37:21Speaker 6: inning down and keep it scoreless. That was huge by Suarez. Yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 6: Ray Kerr's amazing, man. He did it again and again.
- 37:28Speaker 6: I thought it would be a shorter leash tonight because
- 37:30Speaker 6: 47 pitches, two days off. He hadn't done anything like that.
- 37:33Speaker 6: But same thing, he was throwing well. It went as
- 37:36Speaker 6: long as I felt like we could with Ray because
- 37:38Speaker 6: he's throwing the ball so well. Like I said, there
- 37:41Speaker 6: always seems to be some unsung heroes in the postseason. Yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 6: Ray's definitely one of them. We're in a good position.
- 37:46Speaker 6: We've got Chris Sale lined up after a split here
- 37:51Speaker 6: and then going to Sale. Look, we've got to face
- 37:55Speaker 6: more Cy Young award winners for them. Every starter on
- 37:59Speaker 6: their staff is a Cy Young guy. It doesn't get
- 38:02Speaker 6: any easier, but I like the fact that we go
- 38:05Speaker 6: back home even and we have Chris Sale.
- 38:09Speaker 5: That's Walt Weiss.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Amazing job yesterday and We've talked so often how there
- 38:18Speaker 2: is an art to handling pitchers for managers. And yesterday,
- 38:25Speaker 2: I'm not going to say the Braves stole a game,
- 38:29Speaker 2: but you just made all the right moves. Brewers, Padres,
- 38:33Speaker 2: I mentioned four to three. Dave Roberts has been obviously
- 38:37Speaker 2: really good for the Dodgers and even keeled.
- 38:42Speaker 5: I don't know how.
- 38:44Speaker 2: You know, worried they are. They've got lots of talent.
- 38:47Speaker 2: They've been here before. Here's Dave Roberts after the loss.
- 38:51Speaker 28: It's a good team offensively. They're going to fight. You know,
- 38:54Speaker 28: Harris is swinging a good bat. We knew it was
- 38:58Speaker 28: going to be a battle. So we knew those guys
- 39:01Speaker 28: weren't going to go down. So expecting to see Sale
- 39:05Speaker 28: game three. And we got our work cut out. So
- 39:08Speaker 28: now it's a three-game series.
- 39:09Speaker 29: Blake feeling okay?
- 39:10Speaker 6: Is he bothered at all by the groin?
- 39:11Speaker 5: No, no, it wasn't that.
- 39:12Speaker 28: It just he just was fighting himself with his delivery
- 39:16Speaker 28: all game. And, you know, yeah, just today it was
- 39:20Speaker 28: just because I think that the fastball was really good.
- 39:23Speaker 28: The changeup had good at times, but I think in
- 39:25Speaker 28: total didn't have fastball command, didn't have slider command or anything.
- 39:30Speaker 28: the changeup wasn't there. He was pulling it. So I
- 39:32Speaker 28: think that just overall, it wasn't the groin. He just
- 39:35Speaker 28: wasn't sharp tonight. Edwin was great. I think if you
- 39:37Speaker 28: look at tonight, try to find some silver linings. That
- 39:42Speaker 28: was a silver lining. That was certainly a positive. I
- 39:45Speaker 28: wanted to get him an outing, and this was a
- 39:48Speaker 28: big spot. And he did what he needed to do.
- 39:51Speaker 28: It looked great. So, absolutely, you can see him closing. Yes,
- 39:55Speaker 28: I can see him closing. You know, I think with Shohei,
- 39:57Speaker 28: it's just, I think if you look at the at-bats,
- 39:59Speaker 28: there's a lot of chase. And I think that it's like,
- 40:04Speaker 28: you know, it's hard to square up, put good swings
- 40:07Speaker 28: on balls that are out of the zone. And so
- 40:11Speaker 28: that's kind of what it boils down to. So, certainly,
- 40:16Speaker 28: Sale's going to be tough because there's a lot of
- 40:18Speaker 28: strike to ball. It's high velocity, but just trying to
- 40:22Speaker 28: get him back in the hitting zone.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Otani has been struggling. He has had some nagging injury issues.
- 40:33Speaker 2: They shut him down pitching. Be interesting to see if
- 40:38Speaker 2: we have an Otani siding, if the Dodgers continue to advance,
- 40:43Speaker 2: because he's one of their best. But they have to
- 40:46Speaker 2: have him hitting for sure. I mean, there's no doubt
- 40:49Speaker 2: about that. Blake Snell, as Robert mentioned, wasn't at his
- 40:54Speaker 2: very best. But, hey, you're talking about Otani not hitting
- 40:58Speaker 2: and Snell not being at his very best, and it's
- 41:01Speaker 2: still a 3-2 game, right? And the Braves have to
- 41:04Speaker 2: fight for everything. So they'll go home. They'll play Game
- 41:09Speaker 2: 3 tomorrow. We'll see what happens in this best-of-five. Like
- 41:12Speaker 2: I said, every game is a big deal, right?
- 41:17Speaker 5: I mean.
- 41:18Speaker 2: First one to three. And all of these guys are
- 41:21Speaker 2: managing like it. It's fun to watch. Playoff baseball is
- 41:27Speaker 2: much different from regular season. It's so much fun. It's
- 41:31Speaker 2: such a chess match. I love watching these guys work.
- 41:37Speaker 2: And both those games yesterday were really good type.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Playoff baseball games. All right, we're going to take a break.
- 41:45Speaker 5: We're going to come back.
- 41:47Speaker 2: We've got the Oilers report, a losing Oilers report, brought

- 42:26Speaker 19: The Houston Texans continue struggling this season as they fell
- 42:29Speaker 19: to 0-4 following yesterday's loss to Dallas, the final score 34-30.
- 42:34Speaker 19: The offense did their job with 30 points and over
- 42:36Speaker 19: 400 total yards of offense, but the defense had several
- 42:39Speaker 19: tough moments with penalties allowing Dallas to score and poor
- 42:42Speaker 19: coverage as giving a career-high 17 receptions to CeeDee Lamb.
- 42:46Speaker 19: After the game, head coach D'Amico Ryan spoke on how
- 42:48Speaker 19: the team looks to right the ship.
- 42:49Speaker 30: All these games, we've been in these games. We just
- 42:52Speaker 30: got to find a way to finish these games. That's
- 42:53Speaker 30: what it is. It's 0-4, that's our record. That's what
- 42:56Speaker 30: it says, you know, who we are right now. But
- 42:59Speaker 30: how do you come out of it? It's what I
- 43:00Speaker 30: told our guys. I mean, you stick together. There's no
- 43:03Speaker 30: pointing fingers, no blaming. Like, hey, you look within yourself, D'Amico,
- 43:07Speaker 30: what do you have to do better to get it corrected?
- 43:10Speaker 30: And that's where I start with myself. Like, how can
- 43:11Speaker 30: I get it all corrected?
- 43:13Speaker 19: Houston gets a good opportunity for that first win this
- 43:16Speaker 19: weekend as they face the Titans in Nashville. Tennessee is
- 43:18Speaker 19: also winless this season with not many signs of improvement.
- 43:21Speaker 19: That one kicks off Sunday at noon. With your Houston
- 43:24Speaker 19: Texans report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 44:24Speaker 31: The Louie Bellina Show, presented by CC Electric.
- 44:28Speaker 32: If A & M goes 4-8 and beats Texas versus
- 44:31Speaker 32: what about the preseason goals, we're going to find out
- 44:34Speaker 32: the truth. A lot of people might have to look
- 44:37Speaker 32: in the mirror at the end.
- 44:38Speaker 10: Of the year.
- 44:39Speaker 5: You know what, Louie?
- 44:40Speaker 33: I'm never one of those people. I mean, it's all
- 44:42Speaker 33: about what the season is for me. I think one
- 44:45Speaker 33: of the most meaningless wins in Texas A & M
- 44:47Speaker 33: history is beating number one Oklahoma. and then turn around
- 44:51Speaker 33: the next week and losing to Missouri and being blasted
- 44:55Speaker 33: by Texas. So you didn't do anything with a huge win.
- 44:58Speaker 33: If you don't do anything with these monumental wins, it's
- 45:02Speaker 33: just an accident.
- 45:04Speaker 10: It's a fluke.
- 45:04Speaker 33: It meant nothing. Reggie McNeil threw for like four touchdowns,
- 45:10Speaker 33: and then he didn't complete any other passes. It was
- 45:13Speaker 33: one of those games that Has no meaning to me,
- 45:15Speaker 33: even this many years later.
- 45:17Speaker 23: Hang out with Louie.
- 45:18Speaker 31: Weekdays 11 to 2 on the Zone 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 45:21Speaker 31: I've always been crazy in the trouble that it's put
- 45:31Speaker 31: me through.
- 45:35Speaker 34: Been busted for things that I did and I didn't do.
- 45:45Speaker 34: I can't say I'm proud of all of the things
- 45:49Speaker 34: that I've done But I can say I've never intentionally
- 45:57Speaker 34: hurt anyone I've always been different with one foot over
- 46:02Speaker 34: the line Winding up somewhere one step ahead or behind.
- 46:16Speaker 34: It ain't been so easy, but I guess.
- 46:23Speaker 20: I shouldn't complain.
- 46:29Speaker 34: I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going.
- 46:33Speaker 8: Hey, welcome back.
- 46:34Speaker 5: Thanks for being with us. It is a Monday.
- 46:36Speaker 2: We've got the Writer's Roundtable coming your way here in
- 46:38Speaker 2: about 15 minutes. You know, one of the guys that's
- 46:44Speaker 2: flashed this year for A & M is the freshman K.J.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Edwards.
- 46:49Speaker 2: He got a little banged up, but he was back
- 46:52Speaker 2: running for six yards to carry on Saturday night. 11 carries,
- 46:58Speaker 2: 66 yards, two touchdowns, and.
- 47:03Speaker 2: We're going to be seeing more of him. I don't
- 47:06Speaker 2: think there's any doubt about that. He's got that explosiveness.
- 47:11Speaker 2: I love Reuben Owens. I think Reuben Owens has a
- 47:14Speaker 2: chance to play at the next level. But he doesn't
- 47:19Speaker 2: have that explosiveness to.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Me, especially since the injury. But I think we're going
- 47:26Speaker 5: to be seeing more of K.J.
- 47:27Speaker 10: Edwards.
- 47:29Speaker 5: And let's hear from him after the game Saturday.
- 47:33Speaker 22: KJ, Coach Elko just talked with us about how establishing
- 47:37Speaker 22: the run was a priority in this game. Why did
- 47:39Speaker 22: you feel like you guys were able to do that
- 47:40Speaker 22: so effectively and use that to y'all's advantage tonight?
- 47:43Speaker 24: We knew coming into the week we wanted to establish
- 47:45Speaker 24: the run game. And, I mean, Coach Wade put us
- 47:46Speaker 24: in the best position, I mean, to maximize our run game.
- 47:49Speaker 8: And, I mean, the whole line controlled the line of scrimmage. And,
- 47:51Speaker 8: I mean, it speaks for itself.
- 47:53Speaker 22: And just take us through kind of what your first
- 47:56Speaker 22: month of the season's been like and just why you
- 47:58Speaker 22: feel like you've been able to increase your load early on.
- 48:01Speaker 24: Oh, it's been challenging, you know, just coming in and
- 48:03Speaker 24: watching Rube and those guys, like the leader, just handling
- 48:06Speaker 24: their business. You know, me being a freshman, being young,
- 48:08Speaker 24: just trying to maintain, like, knowing the playbook and all that.
- 48:10Speaker 8: And, man, it's like school. You know what I mean?
- 48:12Speaker 8: So it's really been like a workload.
- 48:15Speaker 23: First row right side with Travis. Yeah, KJ.
- 48:18Speaker 14: From your perspective, what's been some of the challenges that
- 48:20Speaker 14: y'all have had in the run game leading into this game,
- 48:22Speaker 14: and what was different about this game for y'all?
- 48:24Speaker 24: I ain't going to necessarily say we had challenges. It
- 48:26Speaker 24: was just mainly, I don't know.
- 48:34Speaker 14: Why do you think y'all were so successful today?
- 48:37Speaker 24: I mean, O-line controlled the line of scrimmage, and I mean,
- 48:39Speaker 24: Coach Wigg just put us in the best positions. So,
- 48:41Speaker 24: shout out to Coach Wigg.
- 48:42Speaker 14: And do you feel like the outside, the kind of
- 48:44Speaker 14: the stretch-type run was a little bit more open today
- 48:46Speaker 14: than maybe it has been this season?
- 48:48Speaker 24: Yes, sir, because, I mean, mainly we watched on tape
- 48:50Speaker 24: that linebackers were mainly just hovering.
- 48:51Speaker 8: They're not plug backers.
- 48:52Speaker 24: So we knew, like, once we get the outside run
- 48:54Speaker 24: that they was kind of just going to sit inside,
- 48:56Speaker 24: and we were expecting to bounce it out.
- 48:58Speaker 23: Second row, left side with Aaron.
- 49:01Speaker 35: K.J., just take us through the first touchdown, just cutting
- 49:03Speaker 35: around the edge and seeing nothing but green grass. Just
- 49:05Speaker 35: what was going through your mind.
- 49:06Speaker 8: Through the first one?
- 49:07Speaker 24: First, I wanted to give all glory to God because,
- 49:09Speaker 24: I mean, it's just a blessing just being in this position,
- 49:11Speaker 24: especially Cal Field, one of the biggest stadiums in um
- 49:13Speaker 24: college football and like i said i want to give
- 49:16Speaker 24: a major shout out to my old line and marcel
- 49:18Speaker 24: reed just maintaining the defense.
- 49:21Speaker 35: And uh what guy in the running back room or
- 49:22Speaker 35: i guess on offense in general has been would you
- 49:25Speaker 35: say your biggest mentor through your first couple collegiate months.
- 49:28Speaker 24: Uh i'll say rug i mean he's kind of like
- 49:30Speaker 24: our tone setter and just like being under a guy
- 49:33Speaker 24: like him just um him giving me the game of
- 49:34Speaker 24: the um football and in jmo as well right side.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Third row with christy How big was it for you
- 49:41Speaker 3: guys to come out here and put on a good
- 49:43Speaker 3: performance to be able to kind of bounce back after
- 49:46Speaker 3: a couple of tough weeks?
- 49:46Speaker 24: Yes, ma'am, this was a major win, just getting our
- 49:48Speaker 24: confidence back. Because, I mean, the past two weeks we've
- 49:50Speaker 24: kind of just been down as a unit. And, I mean,
- 49:52Speaker 24: good thing we got this win so we can keep
- 49:54Speaker 24: it going.
- 49:57Speaker 23: Left side with the back fourth row.
- 50:02Speaker 4: KJ, what are the main takeaways regarding your execution with
- 50:04Speaker 4: the offense line tonight, especially seeing how efficiently those holes
- 50:08Speaker 4: opened up for your touchdown runs?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 50:09Speaker 8: I mean, it started off with the O-line.
- 50:11Speaker 24: I mean, the main thing Coach Hill talked about coming
- 50:13Speaker 24: into this game is physicality, and I mean, they put
- 50:16Speaker 24: it on tape.
- 50:18Speaker 23: Right side with Peter.
- 50:20Speaker 4: You mentioned, you know, through video, through teamwork, you guys
- 50:24Speaker 4: knew there was going to be potential to run the
- 50:26Speaker 4: ball really well tonight. Was there a moment, was there
- 50:28Speaker 4: a certain play, whether you were in or not, where
- 50:30Speaker 4: the team sort of collectively realized, oh, we can run
- 50:34Speaker 4: the ball. We are going to be able to establish
- 50:36Speaker 4: and control the game through the line, through running the ball.
- 50:38Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 50:39Speaker 24: I mean, the first run that Rube had, he kind of, like,
- 50:42Speaker 24: shook the safety, kind of just setting the tone. So
- 50:44Speaker 24: I knew it was kind of going to be a
- 50:45Speaker 24: good night with the run game.
- 50:48Speaker 23: Left side with Alex.
- 50:50Speaker 22: How would you describe yourself as a runner? What characteristics
- 50:54Speaker 22: would you describe yourself with?
- 50:56Speaker 8: I could say... I'm a leader in a sense.
- 50:58Speaker 24: I mean, I love talking to other guys, just kind
- 51:00Speaker 24: of building like a team connection and like a team bond. And,
- 51:03Speaker 24: I mean, people say I got traits like Jermaine Gibbs
- 51:06Speaker 24: and Devon A-Chain, so I think I kind of idolize
- 51:08Speaker 24: those guys.
- 51:09Speaker 8: Do you remember watching A-Chain much here at.
- 51:12Speaker 14: A & M?
- 51:13Speaker 24: I hardly didn't watch A & M, but just watching
- 51:15Speaker 24: the highlights once I started getting recruited by A & M, yes.
- 51:18Speaker 22: And just how do you think you and maybe Carson
- 51:20Speaker 22: complement each other as young backs that are, going to
- 51:23Speaker 22: be the future of this backfield?
- 51:25Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 51:25Speaker 24: They call it Sonic and Knuckles. You know, I'm short
- 51:28Speaker 24: and quick, and he, like, big and fast. So, I mean,
- 51:30Speaker 24: that's the complimentary that people give us.
- 51:33Speaker 23: Right side with Carter.
- 51:36Speaker 36: So, you're Sonic?
- 51:37Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 51:38Speaker 36: Do you know much about Sonic?
- 51:40Speaker 21: Nah.
- 51:42Speaker 36: So, going back, just what went into your decision to
- 51:45Speaker 36: pick– coming.
- 51:46Speaker 24: To a & m yes sir i mean coach echo
- 51:47Speaker 24: and coach troop those guys that was all just about
- 51:49Speaker 24: my family and like other colleges i kind of didn't
- 51:51Speaker 24: get that and it just kind of it felt like
- 51:53Speaker 24: home being with a & m and just like the
- 51:54Speaker 24: overall condition that i have people and.
- 51:57Speaker 36: How would you compare where you're at now compared to
- 51:59Speaker 36: maybe the off season and maybe week one just where
- 52:03Speaker 36: do you feel like you've grown the most.
- 52:05Speaker 24: Uh main thing i'd say probably like the mental side
- 52:07Speaker 24: of this because i mean this can't get a workload
- 52:10Speaker 24: just maintaining like school and fall camp and i feel
- 52:12Speaker 24: like i kind of progress throughout the um throughout the weeks.
- 52:16Speaker 36: How do you think this kind of performance you can
- 52:19Speaker 36: build off of that?
- 52:20Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 52:20Speaker 24: I mean, it's a big confidence boost, but, I mean,
- 52:23Speaker 24: I still want to give a shout-out to my O-line
- 52:24Speaker 24: because without those guys, I wouldn't have those yards.
- 52:27Speaker 23: Left side, Alex.
- 52:30Speaker 8: Okay, so you're Sonic and Carson's Knuckles? Yes, sir. Who
- 52:33Speaker 8: coined that? Coach Moffitt. Coach Moffitt? Yes, sir. Did he
- 52:37Speaker 8: tell you why, really?
- 52:38Speaker 24: No, he just said he just called us Sonic and
- 52:40Speaker 24: Knuckles one day, and, I mean, we just ran with it.
- 52:42Speaker 10: Ha, ha, ha.
- 52:42Speaker 8: Ha, ha, ha.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Sonic and knuckles can you bring up those pictures because
- 52:50Speaker 2: i looked at them when they because i don't know
- 52:53Speaker 2: who they are i'm sorry i'm too old um i
- 53:02Speaker 2: know they're characters from something i just don't know exactly
- 53:05Speaker 2: what what are they characters from stan Sonic and Knuckles.
- 53:10Speaker 5: Super Sonic. It's just a video game.
- 53:12Speaker 8: Is it a cartoon?
- 53:13Speaker 5: It's a video game. Okay, it's a video game.
- 53:16Speaker 10: Sorry.
- 53:17Speaker 5: I'm, you know, I'm not in that world. Sonic and Knuckles.
- 53:23Speaker 5: I love that.
- 53:27Speaker 2: I tell you, the more these guys play, I mean,
- 53:31Speaker 2: that's just, you're going to be hearing that.
- 53:35Speaker 5: I'm just saying.
- 53:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 2: We're going to hear some more of that. There's no
- 53:41Speaker 2: doubt about that. That's pretty good. Have you played that
- 53:48Speaker 2: video game, Stan? I think when I was a little kid, yeah.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Okay, so it's been around a while. I think they
- 53:57Speaker 5: came out in the 90s. No way. Something around there.
- 54:00Speaker 8: Seriously?
- 54:00Speaker 5: But they just keep on making new ones.
- 54:03Speaker 29: Really?
- 54:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 54:04Speaker 5: I just missed all of that. I just missed it all.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Carson Baker, the other frosh, had 12 carries for 26
- 54:15Speaker 2: yards on Saturday evening. Look, I think you saw what
- 54:22Speaker 2: A & M wants to be on Saturday. I believe
- 54:28Speaker 2: that they executed the things that they went into the
- 54:31Speaker 2: game wanting to do. The question is, and we'll talk
- 54:38Speaker 2: to the writers about that. Cease just sent me a
- 54:40Speaker 2: picture of the traffic he's in. I told him we'd
- 54:44Speaker 2: stall for him. But the question is, can you execute
- 54:54Speaker 2: that against the better teams in the league? I mean,
- 55:00Speaker 2: that's what we're going to be looking for. Because Missouri
- 55:04Speaker 2: just shut down Florida Saturday.
- 55:07Speaker 5: I didn't think they could.

- 55:11Speaker 2: Jaden Baugh rushed for, what, 16 yards or something like that?
- 55:15Speaker 5: He's been unstoppable. So that's the question. Can you do it?
- 55:20Speaker 5: I know what you want to do and why. Can you?
- 55:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 55:27Speaker 5: We'll answer that in part on Saturday.
