- Sean Graver: Well, you've got the job most people would want. Good pay, real security, and still somewhere underneath the gratitude you genuinely feel for this job, there's a dissatisfaction that you just can't quite explain away. Well, my name is Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. So you know something needs to change, but what you don't have is like the the conviction to actually make a move. or even a clear idea of where you'd go if you did. But in the book of James, James writes something simple and direct for exactly this kind of stuck feeling. In James 1, 5, it says, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. Now that phrase Without reproach matters here. You might expect that asking God for direction when you already have a good life would come with some kind of correction, like you should just be grateful and stop asking questions. But James says God doesn't respond that way. So conviction can show up before you take a step. It it might show up after you've started moving, maybe once you've actually explored an option or had a real conversation or or tested out an idea instead of just turning it over in your mind. So instead of waiting to feel completely certain before you do anything, ask God for wisdom about the next. Small step, not the whole plan. Talk to someone in a field you're curious about. Write down what actually matters to you beyond a paycheck. I mean, certainty tends to kind of catch up with people who are willing to move before they have all the answers. Well, let's pray. God, we're grateful for what we have, but we're also honest that. Something in us is asking for more than comfort right now. And thank you that we can ask you for wisdom without feeling like we're being ungrateful. Would you give us clarity about the next step, even if we can't see the whole path yet? Just give us the courage to move forward instead of waiting for the certainty that honestly might not come until after we've started. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. And go make today count.
