- 0:58Speaker 4: otom Wide receive from UNLV Jacob DeJesus with he's the
- 1:03Speaker 4: leading returner in the country kickoff return yards. So all
- 1:06Speaker 4: that coming up, but let's get started now with the
- 1:08Speaker 4: tittle tattle, name.
- 1:14Speaker 1: The tittle tattle.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Let's get up.
- 1:18Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Tonight you got Utah and Oregon State facing off and
- 1:21Speaker 6: then tomorrow Colorado and USC in the morning. Are you
- 1:25Speaker 6: gonna finally find out if the PAC twelve was any good?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing. They're playing each other.
- 1:29Speaker 4: It's like the SEC when people go the y SEC's
- 1:31Speaker 4: great or this SEAC he sucks.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But if the se he's only playing each other.
- 1:34Speaker 4: You only It's like Ohio State and Notre Dame when
- 1:37Speaker 4: they played, Like are they both awesome? Are they both mediocre?
- 1:40Speaker 4: I don't know, They're just playing each other. What's interesting
- 1:44Speaker 4: for me to watch his cam rising? Is he going
- 1:46Speaker 4: to play? And if he doesn't, Utah continues to win
- 1:50Speaker 4: without their starting quarterback. And he was dressed for part
- 1:54Speaker 4: of the game last night. He showed up, he dressed,
- 1:57Speaker 4: and then changed at halftime, like are they just screwing
- 1:59Speaker 4: with them?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Oh? Interesting? Well he was ready to go and then
- 2:03Speaker 1: halftime he's like, fine.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I'm just I don't know if it no, I don't
- 2:06Speaker 4: He was he had it looks like he had pads
- 2:08Speaker 4: on and he was out in warm ups, but then
- 2:11Speaker 4: he changed he was he came out in shorts and
- 2:13Speaker 4: tennis shoes at halftime. So, but they've been doing this
- 2:16Speaker 4: with the second string quarterback and their top ten Why
- 2:18Speaker 4: are you looking at me so confused, Kevin? No, I
- 2:20Speaker 4: just I didn't know that. Yeah, I didn't see that.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So I'm just like, it's only only time I would
- 2:23Speaker 4: notice it and it didn't happen.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Are you sure it was Cam in the sweats? Dude?
- 2:28Speaker 5: He's pretty recognizable.
- 2:29Speaker 4: You can't, Mike d Will you google and make sure
- 2:32Speaker 4: I didn't dream this up. I swear he was wearing
- 2:34Speaker 4: pads and then he came out. Wasn't wearing pads?
- 2:36Speaker 5: You just dream this?
- 2:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I could it was his.
- 2:38Speaker 7: Twin brother who like, hey, dude, come down to the field.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Hangs rising.
- 2:43Speaker 4: If you talk, and keep winning with the second string
- 2:45Speaker 4: quarterback and their defense is so legit not good?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Excuse me? What? Not good for Cam?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Oh?
- 2:51Speaker 2: No?
- 2:52Speaker 1: But but or is it?
- 2:54Speaker 3: So?
- 2:54Speaker 1: What what do you mean if he comes back and
- 2:56Speaker 1: they lose with him, is it all his fault?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Well?
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean if your backup's out doing you go.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Here's the thing.
- 3:01Speaker 4: He's only throwing for their averaging like one hundred and
- 3:03Speaker 4: eighty yards a game. So it's not that he's out
- 3:06Speaker 4: chunking four hundred yards and six touchdowns a game. He's
- 3:10Speaker 4: let's call it dil for ring it whenever the Ravens
- 3:14Speaker 4: won their Super Bowls because Trent Dilferd didn't mess the
- 3:16Speaker 4: games up and let their defense score points, let their
- 3:19Speaker 4: defense stop them.
- 3:20Speaker 1: What'd you find out about Cam not seeing anything right now?
- 3:23Speaker 1: I tell I promise you would happen.
- 3:26Speaker 4: That would be crazy if it didn't happen, and I
- 3:27Speaker 4: made the whole thing up, which could have happened. But
- 3:29Speaker 4: I don't think we're gonna see anything about it being good.
- 3:32Speaker 4: But I do think the PAC twelve is really good.
- 3:34Speaker 4: It's hilarious, and they're not even gonna exist next year. However,
- 3:37Speaker 4: if I were the Mountain West, I would just call
- 3:39Speaker 4: myself to Pack twelve.
- 3:41Speaker 1: That's it.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I just switch and be the PAC twelve or however
- 3:44Speaker 4: mey teams are, because that does not exist, so I
- 3:46Speaker 4: would be the Pack. The brand is cooler than the
- 3:49Speaker 4: Mountain West. You and V's in the Mountain West. Yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 4: so they'd beat right, they'd be in the Pac twelve.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 4: In the other game, which is the USC Colorado game,
- 3:58Speaker 4: everybody is just saying Colorado is gonna get run by
- 4:00Speaker 4: a hundred, which makes me feel like they're probably gonna
- 4:03Speaker 4: not get run by one hundred, that they may actually play. Okay,
- 4:07Speaker 4: USC does not have a good defense. They do have
- 4:09Speaker 4: the greatest quarterback in college, but they don't have a
- 4:11Speaker 4: good defense. And I feel like even though Colorado's offensive
- 4:14Speaker 4: line is not the best, I feel like Shuder Sanders
- 4:16Speaker 4: is good enough to actually score some points on that
- 4:18Speaker 4: USC defense. I don't do not think Colorado's gonna win.
- 4:20Speaker 4: But isn't this probably like twenty something one?
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean Colorado looked like high school kids against Oregon,
- 4:28Speaker 1: So I mean, I don't USC.
- 4:29Speaker 7: They're not little dudes. I mean, that's a that's a
- 4:31Speaker 7: pretty stout team. I know their defense isn't that great
- 4:35Speaker 7: just from what I saw last week. I'm feeling like,
- 4:37Speaker 7: oh man, I don't know this could be a repeat.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So you but last time you bet Colorado to cover
- 4:43Speaker 1: correct and they let me down. So I'm kind of
- 4:44Speaker 1: burned by it.
- 4:45Speaker 5: That's what this is about.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm burned by them.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I think I'm not betting it, but I think I
- 4:49Speaker 4: might bet it. I think Colorado covers though it's at Colorado.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I think Colorado covers. Does that make a difference that
- 4:54Speaker 4: it's at Colorado?
- 4:55Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and they have a lot of people coming to
- 4:57Speaker 1: the game. Are you sure it's at Colorado? Yeah? Positive? Uh,
- 5:02Speaker 1: a double positive.
- 5:03Speaker 4: He's got his eye on the screen, yep, yes, yep.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Ray. What has been your take on Colorado this season?
- 5:08Speaker 3: Uh?
- 5:09Speaker 8: Last week was really shocking. I mean, the Oregon crushing
- 5:12Speaker 8: them was unbelievable. It was fun. The three and zero.
- 5:14Speaker 8: Now their schedule is tough. But yeah, this is a
- 5:17Speaker 8: really tricky line. I'm avoiding it. I had it on
- 5:19Speaker 8: our parlay, me and my wife's, and I said, screw it.
- 5:21Speaker 8: The plus twenty one. It's obvious USC's gonna kill him,
- 5:24Speaker 8: but are they? I mean, that just happened last week,
- 5:27Speaker 8: So he told me the same thing's gonna happen again
- 5:28Speaker 8: this week, and Vegas is like, Yep, here's your line.
- 5:31Speaker 8: Just go ahead and bet it, same thing's gonna happen.
- 5:33Speaker 8: I think no, I would almost even though it makes
- 5:36Speaker 8: no sense whatsoever. Do the plus twenty one and a
- 5:38Speaker 8: half if I was to bet and I think I'm
- 5:41Speaker 8: going to bet it and take Colorado plus twenty one.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Oh, you're crazy touching that thing.
- 5:44Speaker 4: And what I do on this show, Ray is I
- 5:46Speaker 4: let every listener know how much money I've bet, every
- 5:48Speaker 4: single bet where I am through the year. It's I
- 5:50Speaker 4: do complete transparency. And so I think I'm going to
- 5:54Speaker 4: bet that nothing like fifty bucks or something.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Hey, just to keep it going. Ray, those numbers are outrageous.
- 5:59Speaker 8: Well, and I know it was very interested because the
- 6:01Speaker 8: over under it was two and a half before the
- 6:03Speaker 8: season on how many wins are going to get and
- 6:05Speaker 8: they have three and then they moved it to three
- 6:07Speaker 8: and a half. But I mean they're right there. So
- 6:09Speaker 8: the people that bet the whole season are about to
- 6:11Speaker 8: cash out.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You know, a month into the season.
- 6:14Speaker 7: There's an extra level of energy of these teams playing Colorado.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It's like there's like, of course, Deontaders is the greatest
- 6:19Speaker 1: thing to happen to college football in thirty years. Like
- 6:22Speaker 1: if you have Dan Lanning saying like this ain't Hollywood,
- 6:24Speaker 1: This ain't Hollywood. Gavin's creating wrestling storylines. I love it.
- 6:28Speaker 5: It's fun.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So here's where we are uh total this season? Is
- 6:33Speaker 1: that right?
- 6:34Speaker 4: Sixty five combined bets. I've bet eight four hundred and
- 6:36Speaker 4: seventy four dollars overall. I have a winning between football,
- 6:40Speaker 4: college football, nfl A four hundred and forty five dollars.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I just heard sixty five bets in four weeks. I
- 6:48Speaker 1: told them to call the number.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So shoes for NFL on the year on plus one
- 6:56Speaker 4: thousand and thirty nine dollars with thirty five bets ten
- 6:58Speaker 4: times your money and NCAA. I'm down five eighty one,
- 7:00Speaker 4: five hundred and eighty one bucks, but I'm up overall
- 7:02Speaker 4: four to forty five. So I just don't want our
- 7:05Speaker 4: listeners to go. He's telling me much crap, not doing it.
- 7:07Speaker 4: That's the only reason.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Love it. It ain't a flex.
- 7:09Speaker 8: Love it, yeah, because you if you really watch any
- 7:10Speaker 8: of these shows back I do. I watch it and
- 7:12Speaker 8: listen to a lot of different sports shows, and I'll
- 7:14Speaker 8: write it down. You know, Pat McAfee, he doesn't make predictions,
- 7:17Speaker 8: but he has guys on. I'll write out right down
- 7:19Speaker 8: the two picks that Mike Lenardi or Mike maybe that's his.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Name, Lombardi, Lombardi, He'll give him.
- 7:25Speaker 8: I think he gave Broncos and they lost seventy to twenty.
- 7:28Speaker 8: So I'm just like, sometimes sometimes you just have to
- 7:31Speaker 8: write down these experts and then go back track on them.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I did hit last night on Detroit minus three and
- 7:38Speaker 4: a half.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I smoked the way. That's impressive. Yeah, they were.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I don't know what the game started, but I live
- 7:44Speaker 4: bet in the first quarter it was only like two.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Well I went down to three and a half and
- 7:48Speaker 4: so I jumped on it for like one point fifty
- 7:51Speaker 4: and then fell asleep because I've been exhausted, and then
- 7:53Speaker 4: woke up. Didn't watch the game. I just felt like
- 7:55Speaker 4: I just felt like they were gonna run, and they did,
- 7:57Speaker 4: which is great. So did you guys watch another game?
- 7:59Speaker 2: No?
- 8:00Speaker 1: I turn it. That's really dude.
- 8:01Speaker 7: I'm kind of big on watching ends of games, like,
- 8:03Speaker 7: all right, you know, let's just see what happens.
- 8:05Speaker 1: That was the first time. I'm like, now, Sam, Houston
- 8:07Speaker 1: State was playing on another channel, I'm like, let me
- 8:08Speaker 1: watch that. You flipped Yeah, okay, next question.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Okay, the two schools are set the face off on
- 8:13Speaker 6: the football field on Saturday, Notre Dame and Duke. Which
- 8:16Speaker 6: program do you think is hated more Notre Dame football
- 8:19Speaker 6: or Duke basketball.
- 8:20Speaker 1: That is a great question.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I'm just gonna go Duke basketball because they have had
- 8:26Speaker 4: a consistent head coach who has been the face of
- 8:29Speaker 4: the program. So to know them is to hate them
- 8:33Speaker 4: and to know them as consistency. So coach k being there,
- 8:36Speaker 4: I think their fans are a little more obnoxious. I
- 8:40Speaker 4: think they've had They've won more consistently as well over
- 8:43Speaker 4: the last twenty five years Notre Dame football, so it's
- 8:46Speaker 4: easier to be a real dick whenever you win. But
- 8:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna go Duke basketball is worse than Notre Dame
- 8:53Speaker 4: football and just leave it there because their Dame footballsappoint
- 8:56Speaker 4: so much. Duke has number one recruiting class in two
- 8:58Speaker 4: recruiting class even though the don't win national Championshi, so
- 9:00Speaker 4: we got to hear about them winning something all the time.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 5: True. Notre Dame has kind of become a joke.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You know, with Ryan Kelly there.
- 9:06Speaker 4: They did make it to the playoff and they but
- 9:09Speaker 4: there there was a lot of run in between where
- 9:10Speaker 4: they just were not good.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go Duke is hated more. But let
- 9:14Speaker 1: me ask you us, who do you hate more. I'm
- 9:16Speaker 1: gonna go Duke just because there's nerdy, rich kids.
- 9:19Speaker 4: I like, Oh, the rich part's big, but Notre Dame's
- 9:22Speaker 4: rich too, But but it's not presented as that. That's
- 9:24Speaker 4: a great point on the nerdy shut up like the
- 9:27Speaker 4: rich part, though.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I agree.
- 9:29Speaker 7: When they show the crowd, they just look like, what
- 9:31Speaker 7: are you doing? Get back that you were just studying
- 9:33Speaker 7: five minutes ago?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Go back now.
- 9:34Speaker 7: I don't mind that part. I don't you got Notre Dame.
- 9:37Speaker 7: They've been drinking all day. Like that's my kind of people.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Okay, what do you think, Kevin?
- 9:41Speaker 6: Honestly, I don't hate either of them, and I've never
- 9:44Speaker 6: hated either a Red Sox fan because they get so
- 9:46Speaker 6: much hate and I'm just like, I kind of go
- 9:48Speaker 6: against the green.
- 9:48Speaker 1: No, you don't.
- 9:49Speaker 4: You're on a team that's hated, so you know what
- 9:51Speaker 4: it's like to win all the time and be hated
- 9:52Speaker 4: for it.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so I love it. Grain interesting that's you're one
- 9:56Speaker 1: of them.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Because it makes everybody else mad when they win. Some
- 9:58Speaker 6: I'm all for it.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I love it.
- 9:59Speaker 4: It must be nice to have winners in your just
- 10:01Speaker 4: your life. He's a Red Sox fan and a Patriots fan, but.
- 10:04Speaker 7: He's been California. It's all confusing.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Okay a couple of years, Raymond, Know who do you
- 10:09Speaker 1: hate more? I hate Duke?
- 10:11Speaker 8: It was they were always good when we were growing
- 10:12Speaker 8: up and Notre Dame Christian school, good Christian kids, Catholic.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 4: And also, and here's another reason it's easier to hate Duke.
- 10:20Speaker 4: You know their faces, so imagine the player and you
- 10:24Speaker 4: can go through fifteen of them. You know them because
- 10:27Speaker 4: they play basketball and they don't wear a helmet, so
- 10:29Speaker 4: you can associate like A J. J. Reddick, who I
- 10:31Speaker 4: love now but didn't didn't like him, A Duke loved them?
- 10:33Speaker 1: You did it? Duke?
- 10:34Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I love them and I love them now,
- 10:37Speaker 4: But then I was like, I don't like this dude,
- 10:39Speaker 4: or Christian Latner or but we know.
- 10:42Speaker 1: What they look like.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Have you ever, like, not liked or hated a Notre
- 10:45Speaker 5: Dame player, right.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I No, I just felt bad for yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I don't know any of the Notre Dame players really
- 10:56Speaker 1: seventies who knows all? Right?
- 10:58Speaker 6: Next up, current three point underdogs on the road in Buffalo.
- 11:03Speaker 6: Do you think Miami is still getting disrespected?
- 11:06Speaker 2: No?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Buffalo's really good.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I was watching I got on a TikTok rabbit hole
- 11:11Speaker 4: of watching Mike McDaniels and how he was running all
- 11:14Speaker 4: of his motion from inside out instead of outside in,
- 11:18Speaker 4: and how it was affecting the linebackers and coverage, and
- 11:20Speaker 4: how they scored so many points. Let's say there are
- 11:22Speaker 4: three wide receivers that he lined up on the left,
- 11:24Speaker 4: and I'm trying to picture it. That farthest left receiver
- 11:26Speaker 4: who's off the line. They would then send him out
- 11:29Speaker 4: toward the sideline and make one of the defensive backs
- 11:31Speaker 4: of the linebacker's move, showing not only man coverage, his
- 11:34Speaker 4: own coverage. But then they would start doing the guy
- 11:35Speaker 4: in the middle, and if a linebacker had him and
- 11:38Speaker 4: the linebacker would run well the outside guy. The motion
- 11:41Speaker 4: would be so quick the outside guy would go with
- 11:42Speaker 4: them as well, and it would leave Tyreek open in
- 11:44Speaker 4: the middle.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It was interesting.
- 11:45Speaker 4: It's like I was watching a masterclass. So I don't
- 11:48Speaker 4: think it's the Dolphins aren't getting respect. I think the
- 11:51Speaker 4: Buffalo is really good. Josh Allen's gonna plany great again.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I also, I just still I feel like to it
- 11:58Speaker 4: he's just gonna take a hit don't feel like he's
- 12:00Speaker 4: just sensitive.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You canna get hit, get a concussion again.
- 12:03Speaker 7: You can't get respect in like two weeks, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 7: like you have done.
- 12:07Speaker 1: The Bills have earned our respect. But the Bills they
- 12:09Speaker 1: beat the Raiders in Washington.
- 12:11Speaker 7: Well, this year is a little different, but the last
- 12:13Speaker 7: four year years they've gained our respect. The Dolphins like,
- 12:15Speaker 7: all right, you've had a good start to the season.
- 12:17Speaker 7: We're in Week four. Who wins that game?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Haven't said that Miami. I think he made a good point.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Without that, it's like, Miami, there's no disrespect, but it's
- 12:28Speaker 4: not like we're gonna respect you for always being good
- 12:31Speaker 4: if you haven't always been good.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Correct, true you say, Miami.
- 12:34Speaker 6: I'm gonna go with Miami too. They started hot last
- 12:36Speaker 6: year too. It's all about to.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna go.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I think Buffalo wins this because Miami just scored seventy.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Then got anymore. The breat the Raymond you.
- 12:46Speaker 8: Yeah, the NFL is a really big flip flop waffle game,
- 12:49Speaker 8: and I just feel like Miami played so good. I
- 12:51Speaker 8: would easily go Buffalo this week. Really not betting it,
- 12:54Speaker 8: but that's what I would didn't have waddle last week. Right, Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 8: he's back. So I mean they you would think in theory,
- 12:59Speaker 8: oh they should. I actually scored more than seventy, but
- 13:01Speaker 8: that's not the case. There's only one ball to go around.
- 13:03Speaker 4: If they could like three balls at the same time,
- 13:05Speaker 4: but like a Chane awesome. But now they're talking about
- 13:09Speaker 4: and the Jonathan Taylor trade sweepstakes. Miami's like one of
- 13:12Speaker 4: the top two teams. How many running backs? You can
- 13:14Speaker 4: only play a couple only one ball? You got most
- 13:17Speaker 4: of a Chane and Jonathan Taylor.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And people are saying that the running back physicians like obsoletely, well,
- 13:23Speaker 1: it only is if you're not using it in a
- 13:25Speaker 1: way where you're also a receiver.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Okay, are you playing a Chane this week?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yes?
- 13:29Speaker 5: I picked him upside him.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I drafted him Eddie smart enough one of them.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Before the season started, he was like, I wanted a
- 13:35Speaker 4: Chanine you picked on and I was like, I'm want
- 13:36Speaker 4: to hold him. Wasn't a big I watched him at
- 13:38Speaker 4: Texas A and M and knew of his lightning, so
- 13:41Speaker 4: I didn't know if he even get to play because
- 13:42Speaker 4: he's small. But I didn't trade Eddie for him, and
- 13:45Speaker 4: I'm happy I did it.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you offered me that trade, and Eddie didn't take him.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I didn't take it. I did offer for peers too.
- 13:50Speaker 7: Oh my goodness, Houston's peers.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I thought I was smart. I did offer him a trade.
- 13:54Speaker 4: EDI's just scared of every trade because he thinks everbody
- 13:56Speaker 4: trying to get.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Him no week one, week one trade. I'm a little
- 13:58Speaker 1: weary of Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 8: If you guys are playing saying a chain, then you
- 14:00Speaker 8: definitely don't have that great of fantasy teams.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I got him just chilling on my bench. I don't
- 14:04Speaker 4: think that's true, though, But what do we know Miami?
- 14:07Speaker 4: Does they just split? They just pluit carries. I mean,
- 14:09Speaker 4: he's a backup.
- 14:10Speaker 5: That's what I'm scared of me. I don't know if
- 14:11Speaker 5: I'm gonna start yet.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But he's not there.
- 14:12Speaker 4: But but he's not there running back anyway. He's playing
- 14:17Speaker 4: running back. But it's not like they're putting him in
- 14:19Speaker 4: to actually run the ball twenty five times. They're putting
- 14:21Speaker 4: him in at the running back position to run at
- 14:23Speaker 4: eight and to catch probably six or seven passes.
- 14:25Speaker 8: See, the catching is huge in fantasy. So if the
- 14:27Speaker 8: guy's catching, maybe you do then there you go. Then
- 14:30Speaker 8: you probably should start him but also if you probably
- 14:32Speaker 8: should do anything fantasy, well be wrong. That's all right,
- 14:35Speaker 8: so you never know.
- 14:36Speaker 1: My wife wins.
- 14:37Speaker 8: Who was the worst team? Okay, perfect, I'm gonna do
- 14:39Speaker 8: a defense against them. Oh great, they played great that week.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Great. Oh you guys still play defense in your league?
- 14:42Speaker 4: We got we credit kickers, but defenkers?
- 14:46Speaker 5: Is that good?
- 14:46Speaker 1: You got rid of kickers? Defensive kickers? We cut?
- 14:50Speaker 5: Interesting?
- 14:50Speaker 1: I don't know. Our league is so stupid. The defense
- 14:53Speaker 1: that gave up seventy points.
- 14:55Speaker 8: The Broncos still got ten points because their kicker got
- 14:58Speaker 8: a kick return touchdown. It's worth fourteen points. Interesting, and
- 15:00Speaker 8: I played them, but thank god we did beat him.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I played.
- 15:04Speaker 8: They still got positive points and they gave up the
- 15:06Speaker 8: second most points in the history of the NFL.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes sense. That's a terrible commissioner of a
- 15:10Speaker 1: terrible league. Then speak, I know what you're talking about.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Speaking of what uh why did Miami not go for
- 15:17Speaker 1: the extra three points?
- 15:19Speaker 4: Humiliation factor that that would have been a humiliating to
- 15:22Speaker 4: kick a field goal and to set the record that
- 15:24Speaker 4: they're to simply set the record.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That you'll probably never ever get close to it again.
- 15:28Speaker 4: I don't think that was what McDaniels wanted to do,
- 15:30Speaker 4: and they said.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It's the trophy he doesn't want. He's going in endgame.
- 15:33Speaker 1: You can get both. Sure, what's wrong with I don't
- 15:38Speaker 1: understand this.
- 15:40Speaker 4: I think just the unwritten rule of if you don't
- 15:42Speaker 4: have to punish someone, don't punish them, but you have
- 15:43Speaker 4: to understand their backup quarterback came in and through two balls,
- 15:46Speaker 4: just through two balls and through two touchdown passes because
- 15:48Speaker 4: the defense already been like a screw it. So it
- 15:50Speaker 4: wasn't like they were gas gas gas pedal, gas pedal.
- 15:54Speaker 7: Yeah, but in thirty years they're like, oh wow, they
- 15:56Speaker 7: hold the record. Cool, who was the coach McDaniels, that's
- 15:58Speaker 7: awesome Like that forever you'll go down as that coach
- 16:01Speaker 7: that scored seventy three point?
- 16:02Speaker 4: Who was the coach that scored seventy last time?
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah? Well talked about record. There go ahead, Kevin next buck.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Last one here with a dominating win last night in
- 16:13Speaker 6: Green Bay. Have the lines officially taken over the NFC North.
- 16:17Speaker 4: The Vikings are oh and three. Kirk Cousins has more
- 16:19Speaker 4: pass yard than anybody else in the NFL. Justin Jefferson
- 16:21Speaker 4: has more receiving guards anybody in the NFL. The Vikings
- 16:24Speaker 4: are still oh and three Kirk Cousins.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Not losing games?
- 16:26Speaker 4: What's crazy? Nothing great, but the Vikings are not winning games.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Last year, all those games they lost for one one
- 16:34Speaker 4: score games they won victories. Yeah, and now it's kind
- 16:36Speaker 4: of catching up with them a little bit. The Packers
- 16:38Speaker 4: are two and two after losing Lston. I still think
- 16:39Speaker 4: the Packers have a shot. Obviously, Jordan Love is pretty good.
- 16:43Speaker 4: The Bears, I mean, I think the I know everybody
- 16:45Speaker 4: hates the Bears, think they'll be the worst here. I
- 16:47Speaker 4: think the Bears win this weekend. I think the Bears.
- 16:50Speaker 4: They're in disarray. They had a coach get the FBI
- 16:52Speaker 4: come to their house, go through and yeah what yeah,
- 16:56Speaker 4: look it up.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Not good, not good, And I'm gonna zone out for
- 16:58Speaker 1: a little bit. Let me research this.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I think the line what's crazy is the Lions were
- 17:04Speaker 4: playing as a different type of team. They've always been
- 17:06Speaker 4: the underdog to hear the Lions of the favorites, which
- 17:08Speaker 4: they were going in as well in that division. But yes,
- 17:11Speaker 4: I do think they will win. But if they officially
- 17:14Speaker 4: taken over, I'm gonna say no. I think the Packers
- 17:16Speaker 4: still have a shot even though they lost last night.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I think all four of those teams are still in.
- 17:21Speaker 4: I know everybody hates the Bears, and I'm probably dumb
- 17:23Speaker 4: as a rock for saying that.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I don't hate the Bears. I just don't think about them.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I ever all right, Thank you, Kevin. That's still tattle.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Name the Tendo Tottle.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Twenty five whistles presented by Draft Kings sports book and

- 17:52Speaker 1: I feel pretty good about this one. Make sure you

- 17:57Speaker 4: Utah is getting another point since the line time we talked,
- 18:00Speaker 4: which is good.
- 18:01Speaker 1: That line keeps moving. I like it.
- 18:03Speaker 4: So Utah plus four and a half got it, South
- 18:07Speaker 4: Carolina plus twelve got the glove on, and Alabama minus
- 18:11Speaker 4: fourteen and a half. So you'll be able to find
- 18:14Speaker 4: that up on DraftKings. More smiles than frowns. That's the

- 18:44Speaker 4: three game parlay plus five eighty nine? What are you
- 18:47Speaker 4: betting on it?

- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. That's close.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Now we'll get the head coach of UNLV, barri Otom coach.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Odum was head coach at Missouri, then defensive coordinator at Arkansas,
- 19:07Speaker 4: and now he is the head coach at UNLV. I'm
- 19:09Speaker 4: going to say we went that it was awesome.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It's great. He's awesome. Their facilities are amazing, it's super cool.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Coach otems.
- 19:18Speaker 4: You follow how on Twitter at coach Underscore Odom and
- 19:21Speaker 4: here he is coach of UNLV. Coach Bary Odom coach.
- 19:24Speaker 4: First of all, when we pulled up, I hope this
- 19:27Speaker 4: is a compliment. But your facilities here, not that I
- 19:31Speaker 4: knew what to expect, but they are amazing, very nice.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they had a vision on what they want UNLV
- 19:38Speaker 3: football and athletic department to be, and they sit out
- 19:41Speaker 3: and got it done. And this is one of the
- 19:42Speaker 3: nicest facilities in college football. And it's a football building
- 19:48Speaker 3: that has everything under one roof, so it's so convenient
- 19:51Speaker 3: for a student athletes right on campus, and it's a
- 19:55Speaker 3: wonderful place to come to work every day.
- 19:56Speaker 4: When you recruit a kid and you're also working with
- 19:59Speaker 4: their parents, obviously you got a couple people to commence.
- 20:01Speaker 4: I feel like Vegas would be either awesome or difficult
- 20:06Speaker 4: because it is Las Vegas, or maybe a combination of
- 20:09Speaker 4: the two. Do you kind of have to look at
- 20:10Speaker 4: each individual kid and kind of understand their values and
- 20:13Speaker 4: how you need to approach Vegas with them.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Absolutely, and it recruiting is relationship building, but also there
- 20:22Speaker 3: is a space for everybody here as much as you
- 20:25Speaker 3: want to be in the entertainment, the food, seeing the concerts,
- 20:29Speaker 3: the sports mecha of the world that is all here,
- 20:32Speaker 3: and you can get away and be in a mountain
- 20:34Speaker 3: in thirty minutes going on a hike. I've embraced the
- 20:39Speaker 3: opportunity to sell Vegas because there's one in the world
- 20:43Speaker 3: and we're going to use it. And I think you
- 20:44Speaker 3: look at how does that fit for a student athlete.
- 20:47Speaker 3: They look at the opportunity of what this place can
- 20:50Speaker 3: turn into for them.
- 20:51Speaker 4: When you say student and student athlete, because there are
- 20:54Speaker 4: so many resources here and culinary for example, food, I
- 21:00Speaker 4: mean if you wanted to because not all kids.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Get to go and play professional football. Obviously, there's probably.
- 21:06Speaker 4: A lot of avenues if you go to school here,
- 21:08Speaker 4: in the relationships that you can make in the different
- 21:10Speaker 4: parts of Las Vegas, that you could turn that into
- 21:13Speaker 4: a career as well. I think the moms and dads
- 21:16Speaker 4: would probably like to hear that too, right well, the
- 21:18Speaker 4: service industry here, our hospitality school is the number one
- 21:21Speaker 4: in the world. But then you look at all things
- 21:23Speaker 4: that are here.
- 21:24Speaker 3: From everything on the strip, the Gaming Commission, there's an
- 21:29Speaker 3: avenue to create your future, whatever your interest is. And
- 21:34Speaker 3: I think that's interesting for us to be able to
- 21:36Speaker 3: sell not only as a university but our city together.
- 21:40Speaker 3: How we collaborate and make it work for every individual
- 21:43Speaker 3: kid we have.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Do you also have to have a like all hands
- 21:46Speaker 4: on deck meeting with freshmen going Okay.
- 21:49Speaker 1: You're Vegas.
- 21:50Speaker 4: There's a lot out there, Like you got to chill
- 21:53Speaker 4: a little bit too, because it can be overwhelming.
- 21:56Speaker 3: The education piece is really really important because you you
- 22:00Speaker 3: can find trouble if you're in Las Vegas or Faye
- 22:03Speaker 3: of Arkansas or Memphis, Tennessee. If you want to find
- 22:06Speaker 3: those things in any college town, you can find it.
- 22:09Speaker 3: But we talk a lot about what do you want
- 22:13Speaker 3: to be, what do you want your career to be.
- 22:16Speaker 3: We're going to graduate from college. But then if you're
- 22:18Speaker 3: really invested in being a great college football player, then
- 22:22Speaker 3: here's the path you need to go. And there's times
- 22:26Speaker 3: that I want guys to enjoy all the things that
- 22:28Speaker 3: are here within reason, but also, you know, big picture,
- 22:33Speaker 3: let's look at how important it is step by step
- 22:35Speaker 3: to stay on track.
- 22:36Speaker 4: When you were the head assistant or whatever the term
- 22:40Speaker 4: weather arckets on defensive coordinator. It wasn't like you were
- 22:43Speaker 4: out a head coaching for very long, but a few years.
- 22:45Speaker 4: How many years were three years? Yeah, So it's not
- 22:47Speaker 4: like you were in prison for twenty and you're out
- 22:49Speaker 4: and you're like, look at the billboards, they're electric. So
- 22:52Speaker 4: but was there a change with being a head coach
- 22:56Speaker 4: from three years ago to today?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Absolutely changed. It's changed.
- 23:00Speaker 3: The landscape, in my opinion, has changed dramatically. When I
- 23:03Speaker 3: was the head coach at Missouri, my last year as
- 23:05Speaker 3: the head coach was twenty nineteen, and then the three
- 23:08Speaker 3: years in failable we didn't have an IL well, some
- 23:12Speaker 3: people had it. This wasn't legal at that time, so
- 23:16Speaker 3: that transformed. The portal was not you know there was
- 23:19Speaker 3: you couldn't transfer unless you were a grad transfer. So
- 23:22Speaker 3: I think the education piece for me is a head
- 23:24Speaker 3: coach to see how we navigated through some of those
- 23:27Speaker 3: things at Arkansas planned and helped me because I knew
- 23:31Speaker 3: I'd be back in the chair again at some point
- 23:33Speaker 3: and it gave me the opportunity to see it from
- 23:36Speaker 3: a different lens.
- 23:36Speaker 1: For sure.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Is there a like an investment in the relationship with
- 23:41Speaker 4: the player that you do not get to commit. Let's
- 23:43Speaker 4: say they go and they hit a different school, so
- 23:45Speaker 4: let's say go to USC or they go to UCLA.
- 23:48Speaker 4: But you've spent a bunch of time with them recruiting
- 23:50Speaker 4: in and it's still valuable because if they do change
- 23:52Speaker 4: their mind, because now the portal allows them to, if
- 23:56Speaker 4: they say it's what they want to do, they can leave.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Is there always like I'm just gonna possibly fight for
- 24:01Speaker 4: second place too?
- 24:03Speaker 3: I think the general you're absolutely right. The general principle
- 24:07Speaker 3: in my belief is if you really think the kid
- 24:10Speaker 3: is a fit for your program, always recruiting and never
- 24:16Speaker 3: you're going to come in second or third at times.
- 24:18Speaker 3: But another year from then he may come calling back
- 24:23Speaker 3: that he wants a change of scenery, and he liked
- 24:26Speaker 3: the relationship we had and there was a common ground
- 24:30Speaker 3: for whatever that he was looking for, that he had enough.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Interest he would want to maybe come back. Here.
- 24:35Speaker 4: We were driving in and we just grabbed a car.
- 24:38Speaker 4: We're talking to the driver. I like to kind of
- 24:40Speaker 4: talk to folks in each area to see what they're
- 24:42Speaker 4: passionate about, how they feel their temperature on even the
- 24:44Speaker 4: sports programs and the guy was born and raised in Vegas,
- 24:47Speaker 4: which is kind of a unicorn because most people come
- 24:50Speaker 4: in and said, so you and know the football fan goes,
- 24:52Speaker 4: massive UNLB fan, and I said, so, how do you
- 24:55Speaker 4: feel about the program? He goes, think the coach we
- 24:57Speaker 4: got now? Yeah, I think we're you know, I don't
- 24:59Speaker 4: know him very well, but think we're going in a
- 25:00Speaker 4: good direction. He goes, but we we just haven't won.
- 25:02Speaker 4: We have been a bowl game in forever. Here just
- 25:04Speaker 4: talking about five wins? Fine, so can you win here?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 25:07Speaker 3: And I think, Bobby, I think we're going to win
- 25:09Speaker 3: at a high level. I don't think it's a five
- 25:12Speaker 3: year plan. I think it's a right now plan. The
- 25:15Speaker 3: mission is to compete and win championships, and there's no
- 25:18Speaker 3: reason we can't do it here.
- 25:21Speaker 4: You guys play Michigan and you lost the game, and
- 25:23Speaker 4: I don't know, Eddie and I were talking about it.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You lost thirty five to seven. I don't seem that bad.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I'll back coach.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I know it sucks to you, probably because you're the coach.
- 25:30Speaker 4: You lost thirty five to seven. But we were looking
- 25:32Speaker 4: at we just stats and the offensive philosophy, and we
- 25:38Speaker 4: probably weren't doing that Oh yeah, now we're buying, we're.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Just actually looking at pictures. Sounded good. Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 4: When you play a team like Michigan and you lose
- 25:46Speaker 4: thirty five to seven at the end of it, but
- 25:47Speaker 4: you're like, oh, thank god, it wasn't like one hundred
- 25:49Speaker 4: to nothing.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I thought we were going to go compete, which we did.
- 25:53Speaker 3: You know, we went to win the game. They are
- 25:56Speaker 3: built like a playoff team. We're not yet. I think
- 26:00Speaker 3: they're twenty eight and three in the last two years.
- 26:04Speaker 3: They're a really good National Championship contending team. And I
- 26:08Speaker 3: told the guys after the game, that's the standard, that's
- 26:10Speaker 3: what we're working to get towards and to let's learn
- 26:14Speaker 3: from our mistakes, let's correct them, let's try to improve
- 26:18Speaker 3: from week to week.
- 26:20Speaker 1: There's going to be.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Times through this process that you run into a Michigan.
- 26:26Speaker 3: I think it's always good to see where you stack up.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I felt like, and I watched a lot of the
- 26:31Speaker 4: game as I went back and watched it on ESPN
- 26:36Speaker 4: seventy two wherever the app is. Again, I didn't feel like,
- 26:39Speaker 4: you guys look completely overmatched. I just felt like, eventually
- 26:42Speaker 4: they were just bigger and faster, but when you finish
- 26:46Speaker 4: a game like that, and I know moral victories are
- 26:48Speaker 4: not a thing. Did you have confidence in your guys
- 26:51Speaker 4: more so?
- 26:52Speaker 1: After that game?
- 26:53Speaker 3: I thought we made improvement from week one to week two.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Week one we played Bryant University one big Week two
- 26:59Speaker 3: kind of opposite.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Ends of the spectrum, and I thought we made improvements.
- 27:04Speaker 3: You always want to win, like we're talking about, but
- 27:06Speaker 3: we made a big jump in how we performed from
- 27:10Speaker 3: week one to two, two to three, And now the
- 27:12Speaker 3: challenge is to do that every single week.
- 27:14Speaker 4: You got a Vanderbilt program that came to town. I very
- 27:18Speaker 4: much improved Vanderbilt program, and you guys beat them. You
- 27:21Speaker 4: were not the favorite going into the game, you end
- 27:23Speaker 4: up beating them. So were you able to take stuff
- 27:26Speaker 4: from that Michigan game?
- 27:27Speaker 1: And then what have you been doing?
- 27:29Speaker 4: Have you been getting better at that the first three
- 27:30Speaker 4: or four games this season to you know, as you're
- 27:32Speaker 4: trying to get to you know, hit that high.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah? Three quarters the way I.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Think our practice habits have aligned with giving us a
- 27:38Speaker 3: chance to play winning football. I did, and I started.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I told the team early in the Vanderbilt week. I
- 27:45Speaker 3: watched as much film as I could watch and I
- 27:47Speaker 3: told them on Monday of that week, I said, we're
- 27:50Speaker 3: the better football team.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Did you believe it? Or do you say? I absolutely
- 27:53Speaker 1: believed it.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And I've got a lot of respect for coach Lee
- 27:56Speaker 3: and what they're doing, and I think they're going to
- 27:58Speaker 3: win games this year in that compens But I felt
- 28:01Speaker 3: like we had matchups that we were better in and
- 28:04Speaker 3: I thought that if we would go execute and had
- 28:06Speaker 3: a really good week of practice and those habits aligned
- 28:09Speaker 3: the way they should, that we'd have a chance to
- 28:11Speaker 3: win the game. And our kids played extremely well. We've
- 28:14Speaker 3: got a little edge to us, which is good. We
- 28:17Speaker 3: have a long ways to go. We understand that I
- 28:19Speaker 3: think our margin of error is is zero, Like we
- 28:23Speaker 3: can't go turn the ball over three times and not
- 28:25Speaker 3: getting any back and think we're going to win the game.
- 28:27Speaker 3: But it's not that good yet. So we understand special
- 28:31Speaker 3: teams we've got to be We've got to be really
- 28:34Speaker 3: really good in special teams, the hidden yardist battle, we've
- 28:36Speaker 3: got to win those. We can't turn the ball over
- 28:38Speaker 3: on offense, and then we've got to be opportunistic and
- 28:40Speaker 3: get it back on defense, and if we do those things,
- 28:43Speaker 3: we'll have a chance in every game.
- 28:45Speaker 4: How do you split your time in the rooms. You're
- 28:46Speaker 4: a defensive guy at heart, but there's you got a
- 28:50Speaker 4: lot of you got lineback ground, but you also got
- 28:52Speaker 4: wide receiver rooms and full offense.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I think you know, I've hired really really good people,
- 28:56Speaker 3: and I'm not too proud to say that that I
- 28:59Speaker 3: made mistake, and you learn from room mistakes. When I
- 29:01Speaker 3: was the head coach before, I tried to do everything,
- 29:04Speaker 3: and you know I'm not good enough to do that.
- 29:07Speaker 3: So now I just called touchdown plays on offense everyone, which.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Obviously does are all yours like that?
- 29:13Speaker 3: And then the defensive side that's you mentioned it. It's
- 29:16Speaker 3: kind of where I grew up, So I spend more
- 29:19Speaker 3: time with those guys. I feel like I'm more valuable
- 29:21Speaker 3: in that room offensively. I want to at least know,
- 29:25Speaker 3: you know, it'smatically what we're doing where I can hold
- 29:28Speaker 3: the conversational game to him, maybe provide some insight on
- 29:30Speaker 3: some things I see just from a defensive lens.
- 29:33Speaker 1: But again, I think we've hired really really good people.
- 29:36Speaker 3: It's my job to build them up and empower them
- 29:39Speaker 3: to do their job and try to help them any
- 29:41Speaker 3: way I can.
- 29:42Speaker 7: Coach I've always had this theory of teams that come
- 29:44Speaker 7: to Vegas to play have kind of a disadvantage because
- 29:47Speaker 7: their players kind of go wild they're in Vegas.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Maybe they go out, some of them do some stuff
- 29:52Speaker 1: down late. Is there an advantage?
- 29:55Speaker 3: You know, we play an Allegiance Stadium, which is obviously
- 29:58Speaker 3: one of the finest football facility in the world, and
- 30:03Speaker 3: right now I'm selling it to our team. We're two
- 30:05Speaker 3: and zero in that building, so we're creating a little
- 30:09Speaker 3: bit of that feel that yes, it can be. It
- 30:12Speaker 3: can be a huge advantage for us. Whether it's the lights,
- 30:16Speaker 3: the attraction, the palm trees, the desert, whatever it is.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I think it could be huge for us. And there's
- 30:22Speaker 3: space in Vegas for a great college football team.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you means like the guys going down to the
- 30:27Speaker 4: Tropicanic coach like there, Bold and nut like. You know,
- 30:31Speaker 4: it's like what James Harden would, you know, go out
- 30:35Speaker 4: at the met game and go to a little club. You know,
- 30:37Speaker 4: it's a good city to add them. We heard about it, Yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 4: so we allegedly. But if I were a team coming
- 30:42Speaker 4: to Vegas or like going to Hawaii, the whole different environment,
- 30:45Speaker 4: I definitely want to experience that.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Maybe pass out some vouchers, like you want to taste it,
- 30:52Speaker 3: you don't want to drink it. Right, I'm thinking if
- 30:54Speaker 3: I'm a coach bringing a team in here, I'm on
- 30:57Speaker 3: edge because I'm thinking about the what ifs and then
- 30:59Speaker 3: you get into that. You know it's different, but we
- 31:03Speaker 3: need to use that as an advantage.
- 31:05Speaker 1: For sure. You're in a ten six hundred? Is that true? Downhill?
- 31:10Speaker 1: I don't do that. Don't do it. Bring wind, we
- 31:12Speaker 1: don't do it. Come on, don't I mean I could run?
- 31:15Speaker 3: I mean I was blessed with speed, and yeah, was
- 31:19Speaker 3: in a great high school athletic process.
- 31:22Speaker 1: It's pretty fast in high school. In college, what position
- 31:24Speaker 1: did you play?
- 31:25Speaker 3: I played running back in high school and linebacker, and
- 31:27Speaker 3: then I went to University of Missouri. They recruited me
- 31:30Speaker 3: as a running back. That lasted about three days. And
- 31:33Speaker 3: this is awesome. Our head coach Larry Smith, what a
- 31:36Speaker 3: wonderful man. He called my dorm room, his secretary did
- 31:40Speaker 3: and said, hey, you need to come see coach Smith.
- 31:43Speaker 3: And I was like, I haven't skipped class.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I don't.
- 31:45Speaker 3: I don't know if that's in trouble. Yeah, immediately, so
- 31:48Speaker 3: I walk into his office. He's got glasses on down
- 31:51Speaker 3: and he looks through these glasses. He's like, are you outam, Yes, sir,
- 31:55Speaker 3: and he goes, hey, you're moving to linebacker this afternoon.
- 31:58Speaker 3: And I thought it was, you know, a great running back.
- 32:01Speaker 3: And I was like, do I have a vote? And
- 32:03Speaker 3: he said no, yes sir, and I just stood there.
- 32:06Speaker 3: I was kind of like, wait a minute, what just happened.
- 32:09Speaker 3: He goes what he said, do you have something to say?
- 32:12Speaker 3: And he said no, sir. He goes, okay, there's the door.
- 32:14Speaker 3: So anyway, then I moved to linebacker started four years,
- 32:18Speaker 3: so it was a great move.
- 32:19Speaker 4: He obviously knew what he was doing. So how quickly
- 32:21Speaker 4: did you get to play? From the day he said
- 32:23Speaker 4: we're moving into linebacker? So you actually got in a game.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I played in the first game of the year, and
- 32:28Speaker 3: then about game six five or six, I got my
- 32:33Speaker 3: first start and started every other game in my career.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Did it feel natural? And are you happy now that
- 32:38Speaker 1: you were able to make that transition?
- 32:39Speaker 3: Oh?
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you were forced to make the transition. No, I think.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Obviously they knew what they were doing. I was, you know,
- 32:44Speaker 3: a much better defensive player then a running back. And
- 32:47Speaker 3: I think probably in the world of coaching that helped
- 32:51Speaker 3: me a great deal. Just a little bit of both
- 32:54Speaker 3: sides of the ball. But then the understanding of getting
- 32:57Speaker 3: your best guys in the right spots, how important that
- 32:59Speaker 3: is if you had to move kids. We have, but
- 33:03Speaker 3: I've taken a little bit more of approach of asking them,
- 33:10Speaker 3: you know, and giving them the picture on the reasons why. Well,
- 33:13Speaker 3: maybe because if you're not into something, you'll never reach
- 33:17Speaker 3: your potential. So I think you know it's wise if
- 33:21Speaker 3: you have conversation, you look at it and explain to
- 33:24Speaker 3: them the reasons why you want to do something like that.
- 33:26Speaker 4: Your son is a really good high school player. He's
- 33:29Speaker 4: here with you, Now, what's that dynamic for him? What's
- 33:34Speaker 4: that dynamic for you?
- 33:35Speaker 3: It's probably really difficult on more that I think, maybe
- 33:39Speaker 3: on them. Our oldest son is a freshman linebacker here
- 33:44Speaker 3: at n V and that.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Was your running back first, and you said no at
- 33:46Speaker 1: the door. All right, there's the door. You're the linebacker now.
- 33:50Speaker 3: But it's been I've never had a chance to coach
- 33:52Speaker 3: my own kids, and I wondered how it would be.
- 33:54Speaker 3: And I've told him, so, you're going to hear a
- 33:56Speaker 3: lot of stuff in the locker room either talking about
- 33:59Speaker 3: the head coach, which and that happens to be your dad.
- 34:02Speaker 3: He's like, I've heard it all my life. I'm good dad.
- 34:04Speaker 3: So he's handled it in a wonderful, unbelievable way. And
- 34:08Speaker 3: I've got a son that's a junior in high school
- 34:10Speaker 3: that's a quarterback, and in the city everybody knows, I mean,
- 34:15Speaker 3: he's a good player. So luckily he looks and acts
- 34:18Speaker 3: and has the athletic ability of his mother, so he's
- 34:20Speaker 3: got a chance. They both have grown up in it.
- 34:25Speaker 3: They hear in the stands, you know, every week about
- 34:29Speaker 3: how bad your dad either sucks or how great of
- 34:31Speaker 3: a coach he is. It kind of depends on the results.
- 34:35Speaker 4: When you have young children, is that something you have
- 34:37Speaker 4: to talk with him about, because again, you you're a
- 34:40Speaker 4: famous You're a larger than life figure to a lot
- 34:42Speaker 4: of people. You're someone depending on I mean at Missouri,
- 34:47Speaker 4: even at Arkansas now here, people have a lot of
- 34:50Speaker 4: opinions because they love the University of the program so much.
- 34:53Speaker 3: I wouldn't want it any other way because if there
- 34:55Speaker 3: weren't people with opinions, you would you would not have
- 34:59Speaker 3: fans wouldn't be the passion that makes up what college
- 35:02Speaker 3: football is. I think the family dynamic for us, you know,
- 35:07Speaker 3: their earliest really memory. We're in the SEC and that
- 35:11Speaker 3: was a good training ground for them, which I think
- 35:15Speaker 3: will help them for the rest of their life.
- 35:18Speaker 1: So what's what's what's the ceiling? Are you going to be?
- 35:22Speaker 3: You know, I'm really excited about the opportunity to build
- 35:26Speaker 3: this into a national brand. I don't see any reason
- 35:31Speaker 3: in the world now, after being here for nine months,
- 35:34Speaker 3: why we can't turn it into an elite program. They're
- 35:37Speaker 3: expanding the playoffs to twelve next year.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I believe that's where your mind is. I like that.
- 35:43Speaker 1: So it's not you're just trying to win the conference
- 35:46Speaker 1: because of twelve, because you do know if you go
- 35:48Speaker 1: undefeated you can get in as a non powers on it.
- 35:50Speaker 3: There's going to be the winner of the Mountain West Conference.
- 35:54Speaker 3: You're going to be in the playoffs. Selfishly, I won't
- 36:00Speaker 3: leave a legacy here.
- 36:02Speaker 1: It can be done.
- 36:03Speaker 3: We get to write our story and there's resources here
- 36:07Speaker 3: to do it.
- 36:11Speaker 1: That's the vision. I feel like the twelve team because
- 36:14Speaker 1: four was cool.
- 36:16Speaker 4: I was happy to see it, but I like twelve
- 36:17Speaker 4: and eventually it'll be sixteen, probably, But I feel like
- 36:20Speaker 4: that gives fan bases and some of the G five schools,
- 36:23Speaker 4: like Real hope that they also can be in the
- 36:25Speaker 4: mix because they deserve to be in the mix.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 36:27Speaker 3: My last year I was a DEFENSEI cordator at Memphis
- 36:30Speaker 3: and my last year we won the conference and we're
- 36:32Speaker 3: really good and if we would have been in, if
- 36:36Speaker 3: we've been in twelve playoff teams that year, we would
- 36:38Speaker 3: have been in, I believe, And I don't know at
- 36:40Speaker 3: the end of the year, I don't know if there's
- 36:41Speaker 3: anybody in the country that wanted to play us.
- 36:44Speaker 1: It was Dangela Williams on that team. He was a
- 36:46Speaker 1: little bit before then.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Yeah, but that is exciting and you can recruit to
- 36:50Speaker 3: that and you build your program with a chip on
- 36:53Speaker 3: your shoulder on.
- 36:53Speaker 1: That's what we're going to go do because now it's possible.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Was Norville he replaced us, Johnny, I knew everything except
- 37:02Speaker 4: when you were there. It's all free when you're all around,
- 37:04Speaker 4: every part of it except for your apart.
- 37:05Speaker 1: You were getting close. If I could to let you
- 37:07Speaker 1: keep on talking, you would have hit it. Officially like
- 37:10Speaker 1: shots on goal.
- 37:11Speaker 7: You may not know this coach, but I'm also a coach.
- 37:13Speaker 7: I coached my son's nine year old basketball team, and
- 37:16Speaker 7: every time we score, it's like, yeah, we celebrate, we
- 37:21Speaker 7: did it. What's up with coaches that can't celebrate a touchdown?
- 37:25Speaker 1: You have a straight face. I don't know what is that.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Have you seen me the last three weeks? You're almost yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 3: just slightly pulled the hamstring, celebrated. I mean, I want
- 37:36Speaker 3: our guys to play the game with emotion and energy,
- 37:39Speaker 3: and I mean if you sit there and can hide it,
- 37:41Speaker 3: then that's great. Everybody's got to be their own person.
- 37:45Speaker 3: But I'm into the game. I mean I think I
- 37:48Speaker 3: look at a little bit too. Through experiences, I can
- 37:55Speaker 3: take some of those moments and really appreciate them. You know,
- 37:58Speaker 3: we had discussion this year as a group of coaches
- 38:01Speaker 3: because now they're doing interviews at the end of the
- 38:03Speaker 3: first quarter and into the third quarter, and some guys
- 38:06Speaker 3: are like, oh, I'm too focused.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I can't do that.
- 38:09Speaker 3: That's great, you can't, but come on, seriously, every TV
- 38:13Speaker 3: timeouts now like two minutes and forty five seconds. If
- 38:16Speaker 3: you can't take twenty seconds to do an interview, I mean,
- 38:18Speaker 3: you can give coaching points during those TV timeouts, and
- 38:22Speaker 3: then you're sitting around, Okay, what do you do for
- 38:23Speaker 3: the next minute and thirty seconds? You're just trying to
- 38:26Speaker 3: keep them focused. I think it's perspective. I love the
- 38:31Speaker 3: emotion of the game. That's the way it should be done. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 3: in in my small world.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Final three questions, what if you have to go to
- 38:37Speaker 4: the bathroom? Do you ever just do that question? Can
- 38:39Speaker 4: you just leave durning a game?
- 38:42Speaker 1: Or have you just done it on yourself? Well? Yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 1: they don't look too closely. Yeah, why I didn't wear kakis?
- 38:50Speaker 1: You know you could go in the medical tent on
- 38:52Speaker 1: the sideline. Do they turn it up though? Just wait, wait,
- 38:54Speaker 1: there a toilet in there. You just you could make
- 38:57Speaker 1: it work the grass. Yeah, all right, they pulled the
- 38:58Speaker 1: ten down to the big pile of poot, Like, what
- 39:00Speaker 1: just happened?
- 39:01Speaker 2: Why did it?
- 39:02Speaker 3: No? I mean, I guess, I guess you. This hasn't
- 39:05Speaker 3: so you never had to go to the bathroom in
- 39:07Speaker 3: a game. No, they've been like I got it run
- 39:10Speaker 3: out at halftime, Like, man, I need to sure that
- 39:12Speaker 3: did not in them. No, it hasn't hit me in
- 39:15Speaker 3: the moment.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I know it's gonna blame me if this doesn't work.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Asked to go if you see me spread all if
- 39:22Speaker 1: I see you go with that tank. Coach, just gonna
- 39:23Speaker 1: know what I know now my final two questions.
- 39:25Speaker 7: Yeah, coach, So if a player screws up, would do
- 39:29Speaker 7: you like during the game, would you rather you handle
- 39:32Speaker 7: it and talk to him or would you rather the
- 39:33Speaker 7: offer the OC or the defense coordinator deal with all that?
- 39:36Speaker 1: You know?
- 39:36Speaker 3: Really, I look at there's going to be mistakes in
- 39:39Speaker 3: a game. The only time that I really get frustrated
- 39:42Speaker 3: is it is it something that's a lack of effort
- 39:46Speaker 3: or something that just mentally not focused where they need
- 39:51Speaker 3: to be. And I'm not a yelling, demeaning coach. That's
- 39:55Speaker 3: not my style. They don't want to make a mistake,
- 39:58Speaker 3: So find out, Okay, why did it happen, and then
- 40:02Speaker 3: let's get it fixed. Don't let's not have it happen again.
- 40:05Speaker 3: If it's effort based, they won't be in the game anyway.
- 40:08Speaker 3: We don't really have those issues. But I mean, I've
- 40:11Speaker 3: made plenty of mistakes in the game as a coach
- 40:13Speaker 3: and player, so correct it. That situation is going to
- 40:18Speaker 3: come up again if you build them up they'll I
- 40:21Speaker 3: have a chance to go make the play next time.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Last question, I don't want this to sound creepy. I
- 40:25Speaker 1: like a leader like that album as it usually does.
- 40:27Speaker 1: It's like when someone goes no offense, but you're often offended.
- 40:31Speaker 4: The truth always comes up for the word. But no,
- 40:33Speaker 4: I don't want to sound creepy. But like, are you
- 40:35Speaker 4: like ripped in shape?
- 40:37Speaker 8: Now?
- 40:37Speaker 1: Like what's the deal?
- 40:38Speaker 2: You look good?
- 40:38Speaker 1: He wants to take your shirt up, like do you
- 40:40Speaker 1: have you been? I'm not kidding, coach you want? But
- 40:44Speaker 1: as soon as I walk that's very nice. I've seen
- 40:46Speaker 1: him like yeah a year, yeah, so what's the deal
- 40:49Speaker 1: with the city? Has been great to you? Dehydrated so much?
- 40:51Speaker 1: Are you working now?
- 40:52Speaker 4: Like?
- 40:52Speaker 1: What's it's?
- 40:53Speaker 3: That's very kind of you. I've still got a long
- 40:55Speaker 3: ways to go. I want to coach because I don't
- 40:59Speaker 3: really have any other hobby. I love my family more
- 41:01Speaker 3: than anything in the world, but like hobbies, I want
- 41:05Speaker 3: to coach for a long time, and I think the
- 41:08Speaker 3: way that you can do that is number one, you
- 41:10Speaker 3: better be able to win games.
- 41:12Speaker 1: But the health side of it.
- 41:13Speaker 3: The really if you don't care take care of yourself,
- 41:17Speaker 3: you have no chance mentally, you have no chance and
- 41:20Speaker 3: the season is so long that you've got to plan
- 41:25Speaker 3: on what does that look like? What works for you?
- 41:28Speaker 3: And I've shed a few, I've got a few more
- 41:31Speaker 3: to go.
- 41:31Speaker 1: How about me noticing that you look good? Were you
- 41:34Speaker 1: creeped out at all? Coach by that question? I kind
- 41:36Speaker 1: of liked it? Yeah, good, good good.
- 41:38Speaker 4: You know, I kind of like it to this and
- 41:39Speaker 4: I held eye contact the whole time, So you know,
- 41:41Speaker 4: lessense here, that's right. We're rooting for you, coach. Really,
- 41:43Speaker 4: thanks Pella, We really are rooting for you. For you
- 41:46Speaker 4: in the program. And you know, the first thing, even
- 41:49Speaker 4: off the mic, we were just talking.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I don't think you, OK. Care I about I say this.
- 41:52Speaker 1: You're like, there's every opportunity for us to win here.
- 41:54Speaker 1: That's what you said.
- 41:54Speaker 4: The resources are here, Uh, the ability to you know,
- 41:58Speaker 4: get good coaches here, and so I know you're gonna
- 42:00Speaker 4: do it. And I'm super excited to see what you
- 42:02Speaker 4: guys do this season and maybe that driver next year
- 42:05Speaker 4: we get them again, he'll be like we made.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Our first freaking Bowl game. Yeah, that'd be awesome. Cocha.
- 42:09Speaker 1: They give me time. Thanks you guys, Great to see
- 42:11Speaker 1: you next up.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Is the nation's leader and combined kick return yards. Jacob DeJesus.
- 42:17Speaker 4: You know this guy, not a big guy, no, but
- 42:22Speaker 4: quick as a mother. Mm hm you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 42:25Speaker 4: quick as a mother as a mother.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 4: He transferred to UNOV from Modesto Junior College, incid impact.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Not only returning, but he's catching balls every week. You
- 42:34Speaker 4: he's three and one. I hope they win this weekend.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Big fan, big un OV guy.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, rebels.
- 42:39Speaker 4: You can follow him on Twitter at Jacob Dehesus twenty
- 42:41Speaker 4: one to keep up with the season.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Here he is Jacob DeJesus. What's the board and stage
- 42:47Speaker 1: back there?
- 42:48Speaker 2: The board right there? Yeah, footballtop performers. So yeah, like,
- 42:51Speaker 2: how do I get up there?
- 42:52Speaker 1: What do I gotta?
- 42:53Speaker 3: Like?
- 42:53Speaker 1: Have a bench press?
- 42:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Bench press, squad and clean power Clean. The dogs
- 43:00Speaker 2: are up there. They put their names and stuff on there.
- 43:02Speaker 4: So I'm just gonna be honest if i'm because you
- 43:06Speaker 4: can tell that work.
- 43:07Speaker 1: You look at it like dude's rid. I get it. Thanks, sure,
- 43:10Speaker 1: thank you for saying that. You didn't say that though, No, No,
- 43:12Speaker 1: they wanted to.
- 43:13Speaker 4: So I probably bench. Now when you bench, now, do
- 43:17Speaker 4: you do a one press max or is it like
- 43:19Speaker 4: a three what is it?
- 43:20Speaker 1: What's the rule?
- 43:21Speaker 2: Well, yeah, sometimes we have a three rep max or
- 43:24Speaker 2: five rep max number one. Uh yeah, sometimes we also
- 43:28Speaker 2: do go for a one rep max too.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I can one rep max about two thirty okay,
- 43:32Speaker 4: which which you don't have to laugh. Yeah, I'm on
- 43:34Speaker 4: all the older little thin I get it. But if
- 43:37Speaker 4: I'm one rap, I said two thirty, and I could
- 43:40Speaker 4: probably squad like three ten once and so then I
- 43:46Speaker 4: probably clean no terrible cleans like je my arms or
- 43:50Speaker 4: like bad rist I say that, yeah, bad risks. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 4: like one eighty five. Okay, all that combined, So would
- 43:59Speaker 4: even combin if we put all those into a number.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Is there any way I can make that board on
- 44:03Speaker 4: any of the lifts, like even a bench press.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I think you said top dogs. Yeah, I think you
- 44:08Speaker 2: probably might be second to last or dead last.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I like that all of those.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Yeah, so I wouldn't even make So there's nobody on
- 44:14Speaker 4: the team weaker than me in any category.
- 44:19Speaker 2: The kicker so on the kickers is so many kickers
- 44:24Speaker 2: are actually really explosive. Any they're pretty strong.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Why I just saw the board, thought maybe i'd
- 44:30Speaker 4: have a shot there be pretty cool.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Ify up there. You're having a heck of a year.
- 44:36Speaker 2: I mean, thank you, it just started, but yes, thank you.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Three games in as we're speaking. Now, that's it's a
- 44:42Speaker 1: significants when that ball is just punts. First, when the
- 44:47Speaker 1: ball is in the air and you're watching the ball
- 44:49Speaker 1: come down, are you ever looking at also to see
- 44:53Speaker 1: where the players are coming at you?
- 44:54Speaker 2: No?
- 44:54Speaker 1: Or is it only the ball?
- 44:56Speaker 2: You got to keep your eyes on the ball, just
- 44:57Speaker 2: like baseball, because if you take your focus off the ball,
- 45:01Speaker 2: you know, you know you're gonna get distraction. You could
- 45:04Speaker 2: lose track of it and drop it, you know, and
- 45:06Speaker 2: that's all bad dropping the ball. You don't want to
- 45:09Speaker 2: do that. So, yeah, you kind of just see them
- 45:12Speaker 2: out of your peripheral or you kind of like have
- 45:14Speaker 2: a sense of feeling of how long the ball is
- 45:16Speaker 2: in the air, and you could kind of just sense
- 45:18Speaker 2: the players, you know, coming, so you know, if you
- 45:21Speaker 2: feel that they're right on you, you're gonna want a
- 45:22Speaker 2: fair catch. But if you feel like you have time
- 45:25Speaker 2: to escape and get out of there and you want
- 45:27Speaker 2: to catch it and get some yours.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I imagine it's such a fine line between escaping
- 45:31Speaker 4: get out of there a fair catch though, and your
- 45:33Speaker 4: mind are you ever just undecided?
- 45:36Speaker 2: Like, yeah, definitely. I feel like last game, I was
- 45:41Speaker 2: definitely you know, I was in that situation. I felt
- 45:45Speaker 2: like I could have took it, but at the very
- 45:47Speaker 2: last second, I you know, called for a fair catchus.
- 45:50Speaker 2: I felt like one of their players was super close,
- 45:52Speaker 2: like right here nearby me, So I fair caught it,
- 45:55Speaker 2: and then my coach came to the sideline. My coach
- 45:57Speaker 2: was like, good decision. He was like, he should have
- 45:59Speaker 2: took that out. All right, Next time, I got to you,
- 46:02Speaker 2: what's the rule if you are backup?
- 46:04Speaker 1: So if you're the when you're standing at the five
- 46:07Speaker 1: or to like walk me through that.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Our rule is we're gonna stand at the eight and
- 46:11Speaker 2: not back up. So what we try to do is
- 46:14Speaker 2: if the ball is kicked over your head at eight yards,
- 46:17Speaker 2: you're gonna want to still look up and act like
- 46:19Speaker 2: you're gonna catch the ball. So the defense, you know,
- 46:22Speaker 2: is a little distracted by you because you don't want
- 46:23Speaker 2: them to touch the ball grab the ball when it's
- 46:25Speaker 2: at the two yard line. That's tough for the offense
- 46:27Speaker 2: to get out of the you know, that's a tough
- 46:30Speaker 2: spot for the offense to get out of. So you know,
- 46:33Speaker 2: if it's over or if it's above the eight yard line,
- 46:37Speaker 2: like the ten to twelve, we're gonna want to fair
- 46:39Speaker 2: catch it. Catch it right there. That's a better spot
- 46:42Speaker 2: than on the five or the two yard line or
- 46:44Speaker 2: on the one. So yeah, if you're on the red
- 46:47Speaker 2: zone punt and you just don't want to back up,
- 46:50Speaker 2: stay on the eight and just don't back up.
- 46:52Speaker 4: How risky is it if the ball hits the ground
- 46:55Speaker 4: and now you got to make a decision because footballs
- 46:57Speaker 4: are oddly shaped, Yeah, kind of can't put it the balance? Yeah,
- 47:00Speaker 4: what goes to your mind? Can you judge where it's
- 47:03Speaker 4: going to go? Or are you just praying to god
- 47:05Speaker 4: it lands in your hands.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Like a Sometimes it's praying to God, you know. But
- 47:11Speaker 2: we try to squit, stay square with the ball. But
- 47:14Speaker 2: just like you said, it's a football, is oddly shaped.
- 47:16Speaker 2: It's unpredictable. It can go. There's no real way of
- 47:19Speaker 2: really telling where it's gonna go, like off the balance
- 47:22Speaker 2: because of how it's shaped. But yeah, you just want
- 47:24Speaker 2: to stay square with the ball. About a good five
- 47:27Speaker 2: yard distance man, Hopefully you get a good bounce.
- 47:30Speaker 7: You're talking about acting, you know, like the ball you're
- 47:32Speaker 7: gonna catch all.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Can you overact a little bit? Like can you be
- 47:36Speaker 1: like oh yeah, like you got to practice on acting.
- 47:38Speaker 1: How are you gonna do that?
- 47:39Speaker 8: Right?
- 47:40Speaker 2: Our coach tries to tell us to keep your eyes up, like,
- 47:43Speaker 2: don't take your eyes like off because once the defense
- 47:46Speaker 2: sees that you're not looking anymore, they're gonna start looking
- 47:48Speaker 2: up to see where the ball actually is. But if
- 47:50Speaker 2: you keep your eyes up, they're gonna think, Okay, he's
- 47:52Speaker 2: really about to catch it. But yeah, I've played with
- 47:55Speaker 2: it a little bit, especially in junior college. I would
- 47:57Speaker 2: run start pointing at the ball and the defense. It
- 48:00Speaker 2: attracts the defenders a lot of the times and the
- 48:02Speaker 2: ball goes on and it is also Yeah, you could
- 48:05Speaker 2: definitely overact it, overemphasize it, and it usually works out
- 48:09Speaker 2: pretty well.
- 48:10Speaker 1: There's a play that betting gains my team that I've
- 48:12Speaker 1: seen it. It's all on the internet.
- 48:13Speaker 4: It's embarrassing, but I believe the guy made it from
- 48:16Speaker 4: Texas State. He's taking a punt.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Uh huh. He does not fair catch it, but he
- 48:22Speaker 1: catches it and just stands. Have you seen that?
- 48:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I've seen that, and then everybody thinks he fair
- 48:27Speaker 4: caught it, and then he takes off and scores a touchdown.
- 48:30Speaker 1: That's the bravest thing I've ever seen in my.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Life, really really brave, because you got to have some balls.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I man, he could have they asked you to
- 48:37Speaker 1: do anything like that?
- 48:38Speaker 2: Could you know they have? They have never asked me,
- 48:40Speaker 2: would you do it? I think honestly, I think I
- 48:44Speaker 2: might take my chance to do that, But I think
- 48:46Speaker 2: I would come back to the sideline and get yelled
- 48:48Speaker 2: at if I ever tried it again. But I think
- 48:51Speaker 2: that's a very risky move, very risky because you know
- 48:54Speaker 2: it's it's high risk, high reward because if you sit
- 48:57Speaker 2: there and act like you know what I'm saying, you
- 48:58Speaker 2: did fair catch, and they run over to the sideline,
- 49:00Speaker 2: you have them free train to run. But yeah, man,
- 49:04Speaker 2: that's a risky move. I don't know like that. You'd
- 49:07Speaker 2: have to pay me some money to do that.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Honestly, you ever get you ever get the timing wrong
- 49:12Speaker 4: and you don't call a fair catch and you catch it,
- 49:14Speaker 4: and as soon as you catch you just laid down.
- 49:16Speaker 2: That has happened to me before, not at this level yet,
- 49:19Speaker 2: but that has happened to me before in high school
- 49:22Speaker 2: and junior college. You know, thinking that you have more
- 49:25Speaker 2: time than you do. As soon as you catch it,
- 49:27Speaker 2: you get hit, and you know sometimes it happens.
- 49:30Speaker 4: But uh, yeah, what's the key to catching a punt?
- 49:34Speaker 4: Is it not to use your pads? Is it to
- 49:36Speaker 4: just adjust accordingly to whatever the ball is doing. Sometimes
- 49:38Speaker 4: you do use your pads.
- 49:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Well, the first thing you want to do is you
- 49:43Speaker 2: want to get square with the ball. If it's behind you,
- 49:45Speaker 2: you want to make sure you turn around or run,
- 49:47Speaker 2: and you want to get square with the ball. You
- 49:49Speaker 2: don't want to catch it outside of your face over
- 49:51Speaker 2: here or out here. The best thing is to keep
- 49:53Speaker 2: your your hands up like I would say about eye level,
- 49:57Speaker 2: keep your elbows in because if your elbows are here
- 49:59Speaker 2: like that, a lot of the times the ball just
- 50:01Speaker 2: goes right through.
- 50:02Speaker 1: The catch you at the basket. Yeah, so you're not
- 50:05Speaker 1: with your hands at all like a receiver.
- 50:06Speaker 2: No, definitely not. We actually get yeoed at if we
- 50:08Speaker 2: catch it like that.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Doesn't matter.
- 50:10Speaker 7: Your stomach though a little bit, and it hits your stomach.
- 50:12Speaker 1: You look at him and look at you, look at
- 50:15Speaker 1: look at whose stomach. Is that I'm asking. I'm asking
- 50:17Speaker 1: for myself.
- 50:19Speaker 2: No, I don't. Sometimes do it maybe your chest, but
- 50:22Speaker 2: not not really your stomach, Maybe your chest sometimes. Yeah,
- 50:25Speaker 2: but you want to try to catch it like in
- 50:27Speaker 2: the in the basket, like he said, right right right there.
- 50:30Speaker 4: When you're playing wide receiver though, and there's a let's
- 50:33Speaker 4: say it's a it's a go route and it's a
- 50:35Speaker 4: ball that's up, do you sometimes have to remember I'm
- 50:38Speaker 4: not catching a punt. I now have to catch it
- 50:40Speaker 4: slightly different.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I never really get confused like that, but you know,
- 50:44Speaker 2: I can see the confusion sometimes that people may have.
- 50:46Speaker 2: They're always getting told to catch like this. Yeah, that
- 50:50Speaker 2: never really happens to me.
- 50:51Speaker 1: What's the difference in a kick return and a punt return?
- 50:54Speaker 2: They're very similar, actually, but the kicks are different. Usually
- 50:58Speaker 2: a punt is like spot the ball will be spiraling
- 51:01Speaker 2: like a like a throw, and a kickoff will usually
- 51:05Speaker 2: be spinning like back and forth like that. So I
- 51:08Speaker 2: would say kickoffs are definitely easier to catch, but you
- 51:12Speaker 2: catch it the same way as you would a punt.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Does the guys coming I feel like the guys coming down.
- 51:17Speaker 4: On kickoff coverage team have more room to run before
- 51:21Speaker 4: the hitting starts. Where on the punt tam maybe you
- 51:23Speaker 4: got gunners, you got people blocking at the line. Yeah,
- 51:26Speaker 4: so it's kind of a mixed bag of who gets
- 51:27Speaker 4: their win. You know, every freaking Budy's coming down on
- 51:30Speaker 4: the kick. Do they hit harder on kickoff?
- 51:32Speaker 2: Yes, definitely, they definitely hit harder on kickoff. I would
- 51:35Speaker 2: say usually it's bigger guys too on kickoff than on punt.
- 51:41Speaker 2: So but yeah, like you said, they have they get
- 51:44Speaker 2: a ten yard head start and are usually yeah, ten
- 51:47Speaker 2: yard heads start and they're coming down the field flying usually.
- 51:50Speaker 2: But our coach has a good blocking scheme, you know,
- 51:53Speaker 2: set up for us so that I can have time
- 51:55Speaker 2: to catch it and you know, get some positive yards.
- 51:57Speaker 4: All right, final three questions. I want to move over
- 51:59Speaker 4: to the receiving part of it for a second. When
- 52:02Speaker 4: you catch a touchdown pass, that's awesome, right, Yeah, I
- 52:06Speaker 4: mean that's awesome.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 52:08Speaker 4: It's just like if I I would do immediately start
- 52:10Speaker 4: working or something in a flag. Yeah, I wouldn't mean
- 52:12Speaker 4: to do it, I would It would just take over
- 52:14Speaker 4: my body. Like how cool is it to catch touchdown pass?
- 52:17Speaker 2: It's It's insane. Especially when it's like in an important
- 52:21Speaker 2: game and in the midst of an important game, Uh,
- 52:23Speaker 2: catching the touchdown pass like that, It's it's it's an
- 52:26Speaker 2: amazing feeling, man, amazing. I wish I could do that,
- 52:30Speaker 2: especially it's a play that you guys been practicing, you
- 52:32Speaker 2: know all.
- 52:33Speaker 4: Weed, do you ever hope like plays because you don't
- 52:35Speaker 4: ever know if it's coming to you and like you
- 52:36Speaker 4: may be the first option, yeah, but.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Are you just like, come on, I just want to
- 52:41Speaker 1: be the option. I just want to be what they
- 52:42Speaker 1: call plays.
- 52:43Speaker 7: They don't say like, all right, it's coming to you.
- 52:44Speaker 2: No, I didn't know that. I didn't know that, like, uh,
- 52:48Speaker 2: you know you football, that would Yeah, That's what I'm saying,
- 52:51Speaker 2: like mad and I'm like, hey, I'm going to you Jefferson, Yeah,
- 52:54Speaker 2: I do that good. No, definitely not. The quarterbacks can't
- 52:57Speaker 2: you know, predetermine who they're going to throw the ball,
- 53:00Speaker 2: who's based off you know the looks of the defense
- 53:02Speaker 2: and you know the pressure that they're getting, who's open.
- 53:06Speaker 2: So when you're running a route, oftentimes you know you
- 53:08Speaker 2: don't even know if you're gonna get the ball, but
- 53:10Speaker 2: you know you run as if you are. Once you
- 53:12Speaker 2: get the ball every time.
- 53:13Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 53:15Speaker 7: Hey, so, yeah, the other day, you had a hell
- 53:17Speaker 7: of a run, man, Like you were like right there,
- 53:19Speaker 7: I got you at the two yard oh man, Like
- 53:22Speaker 7: what happened?
- 53:24Speaker 2: I don't know, man. A couple of teammates say, I'm slow, Man,
- 53:28Speaker 2: I don't know what you know you were gonna get
- 53:30Speaker 2: got or is that a surprise? I mean I knew
- 53:34Speaker 2: they were definitely coming. They were chasing me. I do
- 53:37Speaker 2: hear that? No, I didn't hear it. Just I actually
- 53:40Speaker 2: like saw on the jumbo trucks running and I seen
- 53:44Speaker 2: that he was coming behind me. But I also seen
- 53:46Speaker 2: that I had a few blockers next to me. I
- 53:48Speaker 2: thought they were one of them was going to stop him.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I always tease him about that. But so when I
- 53:54Speaker 2: seen him, I actually started running kind of like the
- 53:56Speaker 2: opposite direction, and it almost worked. He started like stumble
- 54:01Speaker 2: a little bit, but he dove out and got lucky.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Yeah, lucky, he got lucky.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I could have stayed on my feet, man, I was
- 54:08Speaker 2: two yards away.
- 54:09Speaker 1: What do you think when you get out from that?
- 54:11Speaker 1: Are you just like god? Man?
- 54:14Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I'm feeling like man, that would have been
- 54:16Speaker 2: the coolest thing ever and now it would be it
- 54:19Speaker 2: was still kind of cool, but that would have been,
- 54:21Speaker 2: you know, an amazing experience to score that because I
- 54:25Speaker 2: think it's been twelve years. I heard some people say twenty.
- 54:29Speaker 2: I think Mark told me twelve. It's been twelve years
- 54:31Speaker 2: since the kick retire has been scored for U and LV,
- 54:34Speaker 2: So it would have been amazing to you know, break
- 54:36Speaker 2: that record.
- 54:37Speaker 4: But man, yeah, thanks for reminding me. Yeah, the next
- 54:42Speaker 4: year champions. Okay, So final question. Making the jump from
- 54:49Speaker 4: junior college to here, we are un LV Division one
- 54:53Speaker 4: G five school playing big school. You've been playing Michigan
- 54:55Speaker 4: and you're playing Vanderbilt. What's the difference in speed and
- 54:59Speaker 4: how quick were you able to just feel like it's okay,
- 55:03Speaker 4: this is every day now.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say the I got adjusted to the
- 55:08Speaker 2: speed pretty well at this level. I feel like the
- 55:12Speaker 2: speed is a little different, I feel like, but it
- 55:15Speaker 2: also isn't. At the same time, I think football is
- 55:17Speaker 2: football everywhere you go, maybe you know, at any level.
- 55:21Speaker 2: I think the NFL is off obviously on another level,
- 55:25Speaker 2: but you know, I could definitely feel like it's it's
- 55:28Speaker 2: still the same, like it's football is football. And but
- 55:31Speaker 2: I would say the things that people are a lot
- 55:33Speaker 2: bigger at this level. Like you said faster too, but
- 55:37Speaker 2: the yeah, they do. But the bigger, the biggest thing
- 55:42Speaker 2: is people are a lot smarter at this level. I
- 55:45Speaker 2: feel like, you know, and reading coverages and defenses was
- 55:49Speaker 2: something that I didn't have to do in high school
- 55:51Speaker 2: or in junior college as much. So just getting used
- 55:54Speaker 2: to that at this level is a big thing because
- 55:58Speaker 2: it's not just your athletic bility athletic ability on the field,
- 56:01Speaker 2: because everyone here is an athlete at this level. Everyone's fast,
- 56:04Speaker 2: everyone's not everyone's big, but you know, everyone is smart,
- 56:10Speaker 2: and the people who are smarter those are the ones
- 56:12Speaker 2: who usually excel at the top level because it's all
- 56:15Speaker 2: about you know, reading the defenses and you know, seeing
- 56:17Speaker 2: the different coverages or vice versa, reading offenses and seeing
- 56:21Speaker 2: you know, the different looks and executing it.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Final final question, I lot it because you leave the
- 56:26Speaker 1: nation right now.
- 56:26Speaker 4: In these categories, it's power turns, kick returns, like I
- 56:30Speaker 4: would just want to go if it was close. I'm
- 56:32Speaker 4: just like I'm just gonna go because I need I
- 56:33Speaker 4: want to get one to stay up at the top,
- 56:34Speaker 4: like I want to get on the board back there, right.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so the same thing. I would be like, all right,
- 56:38Speaker 1: I gotta I gotta keep leading the nation. So I'm
- 56:41Speaker 1: gonna get how do you not think about that?
- 56:43Speaker 2: I tended on really think about it as much. I
- 56:46Speaker 2: really didn't even know that I was, you know, in
- 56:48Speaker 2: that statistic category until you know, UNLV posted it and
- 56:52Speaker 2: stuff like that. But yeah, I tend not to think
- 56:56Speaker 2: about that. I tend to just listen to my coaches
- 56:58Speaker 2: and you know, focus on you know, just getting yards
- 57:01Speaker 2: from my team or just making the play for my team,
- 57:03Speaker 2: and not really focus on individual things like that. It
- 57:06Speaker 2: is a cool, you know, accolade to have, but it
- 57:09Speaker 2: could be gone next week, you know what I mean.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Not if you run every time, that's what it would
- 57:13Speaker 1: never be gone. All right, here we go.
- 57:15Speaker 2: You know, Well, we try to implement a play each
- 57:18Speaker 2: week for you know, to get big returns and stuff
- 57:21Speaker 2: like that. And I think coach shebas Is, I honestly
- 57:24Speaker 2: think he's the best special teams coach in the nation.
- 57:26Speaker 2: So you know, we have a very good coach that
- 57:28Speaker 2: just you know, not just trusting him and his plan.
- 57:32Speaker 2: And I feel like they you know, vice versa. They
- 57:34Speaker 2: trusting me and give me the keys to drive it, so.
- 57:37Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Congrats on good you guys.
- 57:40Speaker 2: You guys who was interview so well.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I'm about to catch some punts like this. Yeah, me too.
- 57:45Speaker 1: You guys kept talking about the pots act of looking out,
