- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Amharic with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely, Lucas. I've been practicing the 'who' question from last time. ማን ነው? Lucas: Nice, you remembered that. Today, let's talk about something that's been happening a lot lately — rain. In Amharic, rain is ዝናብ. Luna: ዝናብ. Got it. So it's raining would be...? Lucas: ዝናብ እያዘነበ ነው. That means 'It is raining.' Luna: ዝናብ እያዘነበ ነው. That's a mouthful. Let me try. ዝናብ... እያዘነበ... ነው. Lucas: Perfect. You said it exactly right. Now, when it's raining, what do you need? An umbrella. In Amharic, umbrella is ዣንጥላ. Luna: ዣንጥላ. Sounds nice. So I could say, ዣንጥላ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Exactly. ዣንጥላ እፈልጋለሁ means 'I need an umbrella.' You're catching on. Luna: It's actually fun. So if I'm at a café and it starts raining, I might ask the waiter, ዝናብ አለህ? That would be 'Do you have rain?' right? Lucas: Well, that would be 'Do you have rain?' which is funny, but normally you'd ask for an umbrella. So you'd say, ዣንጥላ አለህ? Luna: Ah, so ዣንጥላ አለህ? means 'Do you have an umbrella?' That makes more sense. Lucas: Right. And if the rain is heavy, you can say ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. That means 'The rain is strong.' Luna: ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. I like that. It's like describing a person. ጠንካራ means strong. Lucas: You've got it. Now let's put it all together. Imagine you're caught in the rain and you see a friend. You could say, እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. Luna: እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. That's 'Please give me an umbrella.' Respectfully asking. Lucas: Exactly. So we have five phrases today. Let's review them all. Luna: Great, I need this. Lucas: First, ዝናብ እያዘነበ ነው. Luna: ዝናብ እያዘነበ ነው. It is raining. Lucas: Second, ዣንጥላ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ዣንጥላ እፈልጋለሁ. I need an umbrella. Lucas: Third, ዣንጥላ አለህ? Luna: ዣንጥላ አለህ? Do you have an umbrella? Lucas: Fourth, ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. Luna: ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. The rain is strong. Lucas: And finally, እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. Luna: እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. Please give me an umbrella. Lucas: Beautiful. Now, before we wrap up, I want to mention something. Today's phrases are all about needing things when the weather turns. If you're finding these lessons helpful, and you can, a small donation at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo helps us keep making them. Luna: Yeah, it really does make a difference. Every little bit supports the show and lets us keep sharing Amharic with everyone. Lucas: So, let's practice one more time with a little scenario. Say it's raining outside, and you need to leave. You walk up to your friend and say... Luna: ዣንጥላ አለህ? Lucas: And your friend says, 'Here, take mine.' So you say, እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. Luna: እባክህ ዣንጥላ ስጠኝ. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if the rain gets really heavy, you'd say, ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. Luna: ዝናቡ ጠንካራ ነው. Yeah, it's really coming down. Lucas: That's it. Keep these in mind. Practice them, and you'll be ready for any rainy day in Amharic. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was a great session. I feel more confident already. Lucas: That's what we're here for. Remember, each episode builds on the last. See you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Luna: Bye for now!
