- 0:05The 10 modern day commandments Welcome to Mark and Pete Yes,
- 0:11there's a lot of chatter in cultural commentary circles that
- 0:14perhaps society needs some sort of moral reset.
- 0:19Perhaps we should bring back the 10 commandments.
- 0:21Perhaps we should update the 10 commandments for the modern age.
- 0:25Well, here are the 10 modern day commandments.
- 0:31One, I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt have not any strange
- 0:36odds when betting before me. Commandment 2.

- 0:47vain. Commandment 3 Remember to keep
- 0:50holy the Lord's Day and any other cricket match.
- 0:55Commandment 4 Honour thy father and mother, and whether one has
- 1:00become the. Other Commandment 5 Thou shalt
- 1:05not kill time waiting for national benefit entitlements.
- 1:09Commandment 6. Thou shalt not commit stupidity
- 1:13on football terraces. Commandment 7.
- 1:17Thou shalt not steal someone's smartphone.
- 1:21Commandment 8. Thou shall not bear false
- 1:24weirdness against thy neighbor. Commandment 9.
- 1:29Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's WI.
- 1:31Fi and Commandment 10. Thou shall not outsource one's
- 1:37brain to AI. Yes, well, very, very.
- 1:43What's wrong with those commandments?
- 1:45We should bring them in immediately.
- 1:46I. Think.
- 1:47Of this reflection world of. Today.
- 1:50So Mr. Pete, you know that when we think about the 10
- 1:53commandments, they are meant to act as our moral compass.
- 1:57What has the world done in recent times?
- 2:00We seem to have lost our way, and maybe these 10 modern
- 2:04commandments could actually help us rectify what's going on.
- 2:08Or maybe we should just go back to the original?
- 2:10What are your? Thoughts maybe?
- 2:12Well, I've been the one that hit home.
- 2:13To me, there was not committing weirdness against thy neighbor.
- 2:17I've got some pretty weird neighbors, but the yeah.
- 2:21You being one of them. You know, there's there, there
- 2:25has been this suggestion that we should bring back the 10
- 2:28commandments. It used to be that the 10
- 2:30commandments were displayed at the front of every Church of
- 2:33England church. They tend to be painted over
- 2:35these days under the idea that, oh, it's about loving each
- 2:38other. Yeah, but loving each other and
- 2:41loving God, which is part of the 10 commandments.
- 2:43The first four are loving God about how you love God rest
- 2:47about how you love others but unless you love God, you know
- 2:50you know in a position to love others.
- 2:51That's the idea behind it as I see it.
- 2:56You know, we need to do those loving God, being forgiven by
- 2:59God, as Christians see is the start of being able to live a
- 3:03good life involves being able to keep the 10 commands.
- 3:06You know, it's like a privilege to be able to keep them rather
- 3:09than being laws that are set down upon you.
- 3:11But still, they're a good way to keep society working.
- 3:15And there's in the the commentary out there's this
- 3:17idea, Oh, we need to have some sort of moral reset, as I
- 3:20mentioned at the start. Well, Calum me surprised.
- 3:23Yes, we do need to do that. But look, there's something
- 3:26ready for us here as we as a Christian country.
- 3:30Why don't we just get back to try to live up to the 10
- 3:33commandments and then have a weekly reminder in church that
- 3:36we need to repent when we haven't lived up to them and
- 3:39then start again the next week. Why not do that?
- 3:41That's that's how our society built, to be the strong culture
- 3:45that everyone wants to come and be a part of in Britain and
- 3:48actually in America and other parts of the Western world.
- 3:52Well, I agree, but I think that probably most important is that
- 3:56whether you are adhering to the original 10 commandments or
- 3:59indeed the modern day commandments, I would like to
- 4:02highlight, Mr. Pete, that there is an 11th commandment and that
- 4:06is thou shalt always listen to the Mark and Pete podcast.
- 4:12Amen.
