- 0:34Speaker 1: You guys, this is our first official PodcastVideoscom podcast and we just wanted to do some introductions today.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So question of the day is would your 10 year old self think about you right now?
- 0:50Speaker 4: why don't you go for you?
- 0:51Speaker 5: you're the closest to 10 years old fair should be precious on your mind 10 years ago, or the 10 year old, the 10 year old you, oh wow, yeah, yeah, I gotta think way back.
- 1:03Speaker 5: Dude, I was crazy when I was 10.
- 1:05Speaker 5: So nothing's changed.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Exactly Like.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Did you even know what you wanted to do when you were 10 years old?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Bob had an answer right around the corner.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah, man, so I'll start.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I grew up really poor.
- 1:18Speaker 4: My dad got into plumbing and I always figured that would be.
- 1:23Speaker 4: My process as well is just follow my dad right as I got older and figured out that I wanted more out of life, went to college and things kind of grew from there and here I am, you know, a few years later, trying to get this up off the ground with you guys.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Love it.
- 1:39Speaker 5: That was beautiful.
- 1:40Speaker 5: I like that.
- 1:41Speaker 5: I do too.
- 1:41Speaker 5: We should just end with that.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I can segue nicely into that, though, when I was 10 years old, I was doing plumbing too, because my parents were having their sixth kid and we had to put in another bathroom.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I knew pretty quickly I didn't want to be a plumber, but newspaper journalism sounded like a good idea.
- 2:02Speaker 1: At 10?
- 2:03Speaker 1: .
- 2:03Speaker 2: Even back then, I was reading the Chicago Tribune every morning, dang.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Reading about the Cubs losing again.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I was up there not that long ago.
- 2:12Speaker 2: The Chicago Tribune is not what it used to be either, but apparently there's these new things called podcasts.
- 2:18Speaker 5: So a 10-year-old me would not have figured podcasts, but I think you'd be okay with it, I'd say that you're still in journalism still.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, just a different format.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Which I am a big fan of journalists.
- 2:30Speaker 5: I think they're, like some, of the most professionally trained.
- 2:32Speaker 5: They're professionally trained to interview people and to gather content, ask the right questions.
- 2:38Speaker 5: That is an art form that I think is lifelong, eternal.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I love having journalists on the team.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Thanks, Dan, for joining us.
- 2:46Speaker 2: The studio is a lot smaller.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We're not going to fit a whole printing press here.
- 2:50Speaker 5: No, but that would be cool if we had one running.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Dan and I were talking about it yesterday the smell of fresh paper coming off a printing press.
- 2:56Speaker 5: It's something that, unfortunately, bang and Parker, you guys will never be able to experience maybe ever again, but it was beautiful times experience.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Maybe ever again, but it was beautiful times those things would run.
- 3:04Speaker 5: It sounded like a freaking jet taking off, rolling out papers.
- 3:07Speaker 5: How did this happen?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I mean, we should point out that we should point out that my experience in newspaper is what made me meet this guy, though.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It's true.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Dan and I worked together.
- 3:20Speaker 5: I was the ripe age of 22 years old at the Northwest Arkansas Times.
- 3:24Speaker 5: His paper was the morning news.
- 3:24Speaker 5: I was the ripe age of 22 years old at the Northwest Arkansas Times.
- 3:25Speaker 5: His paper was the morning news.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I was with the Northwest Arkansas Times and we'd talk about how our scanners would go off for an accident or something and we would see each other pulling out in the alleyway trying to race to the accident, which was probably a little dangerous.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So you all go way back to the AT&T.
- 3:41Speaker 5: We do yeah 25 years ago, something like that.
- 3:43Speaker 5: So y'all go way back to the AT&T.
- 3:44Speaker 2: We do.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Yeah, like 25 years ago, Something like that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know when it was 10, but I think we all realize not a lot has changed and I've heard some of the stories I know Bob has too, so I think we've had a lot.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I mean all my leadership stories in college.
- 3:53Speaker 5: You went to college together.
- 3:54Speaker 5: We did.
- 3:54Speaker 5: We were in a fraternity together.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Yeah, sim, to greater heights.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Risk management was probably my number one thing people were going to do.
- 4:04Speaker 5: That's exactly what I recall as well.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Good job on that.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Thank you, man.
- 4:09Speaker 5: I appreciate it Holding our standard to goals and ideals within a fraternity.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I'm proud of myself.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, pardon my laughter, I just don't believe that for one second.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But jump in, howie.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Bang said howie, you said that's what they call you.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You said it, you're right you're right, I did.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I did kind of put it out I wouldn't have said it if you didn't say it.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Uh, how he works, how it works, uh no, at 10 years old man, I shoot.
- 4:38Speaker 5: I kind of look at my, my, my 16 year old daughter right now.
- 4:42Speaker 5: That you daughter right now reminds me of myself, because I was just kicking it.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Honestly, I had no idea what I was going to do at 10 years old.
- 4:53Speaker 5: I was just playing, enjoying life, free spirit, all is well.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I can relate to that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I mean no idea.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I used to really kind of look to the kids that knew at 10 years old in third grade they wanted to teach or something like that, or be a doctor.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Because I'm like bro, I just have no idea.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I'm trying to know how to play basketball.
- 5:11Speaker 3: You know what?
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm saying Like run around, I don't know.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I was about the same way.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I mean I grew up playing basically every sport you could do and just never really had a.
- 5:22Speaker 3: The only thing I was really ever interested in was like marine biology, which is shocking in the kind of that's what I wanted to do that's what I wanted to do for a long time was marine biologist really just studying like $10.
- 5:34Speaker 5: You just thought it was fantastic looking at coral.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, look at that fish.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That's a cool fish.
- 5:38Speaker 3: You just thought it was great and then did nothing with it, and then very quickly realized that I'm terrible at math and science and I was like that might be a bit of a problem.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So we stuck with sports, which got me a scholarship in college and everything.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And then that's when I sort of found photography and videography, which, as you, weirdly kind of comes around to what we're doing today, which is pretty cool yeah first, I remember, like knowing what I was going to do is about I was 20 or so.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Took a had my friends that were taking a photography class.
- 6:09Speaker 5: They were coming back and they were doing like blowing up prints and dark rooms and stuff.
- 6:14Speaker 5: And I was just fascinated because I'd seen it on TV, you know, hanging out in the red lights printing out stuff.
- 6:18Speaker 5: And I started taking that course and just fell in love with that dark room like developing film, developing prints.
- 6:25Speaker 5: And then I was a whitewater raft guide and I decided I wanted to be a nature photographer, as I was looking at the water move.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Remember those talks.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Bob, I set out to be a nature photographer and of course, that has very little income whatsoever to it.
- 6:42Speaker 5: That was probably the first time I started understanding what I was going to do.
- 6:46Speaker 2: The grass and the cute bunnies in the sunsets have no bank account.
- 6:49Speaker 3: They't tell it, man, especially the cute bunnies hey, but we still have some of your pictures out in the hallway.
- 6:56Speaker 3: No, we do.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that's, that's true, that's basically what that's paid forward on, but there's a princess business that has nothing to do with nature photography.
- 7:04Speaker 5: All right, I mean, that's that it.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I got.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Cool, that's fun, man yeah, same time, same place.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Next week stood I'm in, I'm a, I'm Dan Parker.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Bob, I'm Eric, we got bang you got Howie for Bob PDD.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Not see, she did a controversial.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You got Howie Floribob P Diddy, Nah C Diddy Controversial.
- 7:29Speaker 1: No, it's still controversial Too many stories going on right
- 7:32Speaker 5: now.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that man's fleed the country.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Yeah, he's a Howard.
- 7:34Speaker 5: There's a lot happening.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I haven't watched the news in 25 years.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I haven't either, but I know that that's not a good thing to be talking about?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'll keep it like fair.
- 7:46Speaker 3: It was a little bit before it came so controversial.
- 7:50Speaker 2: We'll come up with something what DC, episode 2.
- 7:53Speaker 2: What's Parker's nickname?
- 7:55Speaker 3: I love it.
- 7:56Speaker 3: That's great.
- 7:56Speaker 3: That's not a bad idea, all right.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Thanks guys, thanks guys.
