- 0:00Welcome back to the Yukon Men's basketball coaching Show. Dan Hurley and the Huskies
- 0:04have won forty five at the last fifty five games they played sixty eight and
- 0:09twenty over the last three years. And Huskies right now or fourth in the
- 0:14country. If they can take care of business, maybe against Georgetown Sunday,
- 0:17they might be the number one team in the country come next Monday. But
- 0:21Dan, back to Cincinnati where you got a roughed upload, not you personally,
- 0:26but the team. As I lost my glasses. My glasses did fall
- 0:31into court and broke. No one stepped on of my hope. No,
- 0:35No, it was bizarre, you know I you know, I gyrate,
- 0:40I move around during the game, and they just they fell off. I
- 0:45took him. I was taking them off my face to read my play sheet,
- 0:50and I was going to put him inside my pocket, but they flew
- 0:53out of my hand, hit the court right where Trista was driving, was
- 0:58dribbling the ball off the court, and he actually picked up both parts of
- 1:02my glasses and threw them back to me while he was getting us into a
- 1:06play call. So and then I and then I just passed the glasses off
- 1:11to and then I looked back like maybe about ninety seconds later, and Kamani
- 1:17was trying to fix them, and I need KAMMANI to help coach the game,
- 1:23so I demanded that Kamani give him to somebody less important relative to strategic
- 1:27things. How did they ended up getting fixed by I believe Christmas Strangelo,
- 1:34the Great Christmas Strangelo got them fixed a little duct tape or something like that.
- 1:40How did the game look when you didn't have your glasses on? Did
- 1:42it look different? I I can't see all the details. I need them.
- 1:53Well, Xavier, you know, at the beginning of the game,
- 1:57and they were dominating in the pain dry having the ball in there, attack
- 2:00and the glass doing all the stuff that they do. The first part of
- 2:05my my question here going forward is is that a wrestling match that was happening
- 2:09there in the opening ten minutes or so? Or it looked like guys were
- 2:13hooking people left and right. I felt like I was at a WWE event
- 2:17for a while. Yeah, I mean not by us. We were.
- 2:21I mean we were, you know, like, that's not I mean,
- 2:27that's not the game that we're where that we're necessarily trying to play. I
- 2:30think, you know, we we play obviously a you know, an intense,
- 2:35a pretty relentless game. I think, you know, we're a fairly
- 2:38physical team, but I think it's more you know, we give great effort,
- 2:42multiple efforts, and we're fast to the ball and and you know,
- 2:47and we play with tempo and pace, so you know, I think,
- 2:51but it's a you know, it's a big East game, and they've got
- 2:53Xavier's got a big, physical front court, and obviously it's a huge you
- 3:00know, Shawn's excellent coach, and you know that they're a huge point of
- 3:04emphasis and it was advantageous for them to turn it into a real physical game
- 3:09because of their front court depth and the bodies they had there. So you
- 3:14know, it's not surprising. You know, these games get refereed the way
- 3:19they do in league, and obviously it plays into, uh, you know,
- 3:24the Big East Battle narrative and and you know, sometimes it probably gets
- 3:31a little bit too physical and then you know, the referees got to get
- 3:36control of the game again. It felt like we were going to the monitor
- 3:38a lot. I felt like I was calling a nick game in the nineties
- 3:45when Charles Oakley and John Stars were mugging people at four minutes of the game.
- 3:50I mean it looked like that. Well that's why, you know,
- 3:53if you're really look at a lot of my media last year throughout the Big
- 3:55East season and in the Big East Tournament, it was uh, I mentioned
- 4:00a lot or we couldn't wait to get back to non conference foes, and
- 4:05that the we couldn't wait to get back to the n sa A tournament because
- 4:09we're going to be allowed to move again, and maybe it become a little
- 4:13bit more of a of a best basketball game and less of a steel cage
- 4:16fight. But you know, we knew, we knew what we knew what
- 4:19we were getting ourselves into in terms of the physicality and the brutality of the
- 4:25game yesterday. And we had some obviously we we we we didn't do what
- 4:30we wanted to do on the backboard. Felt that some of it was being
- 4:34overpowered physically with some really small lineups, and some of it was we had
- 4:40opportunities to grab the ball on some some some some just like loose change plays
- 4:46we didn't make to grab the ball that turned intoto threes and put backs in
- 4:50the first half, which you know, I think we guarded way better than
- 4:56our points possession showed up in the in the post game starts. Yeah,
- 5:00no doubt. Nine of thirty one by Xavier in the second half twenty nine
- 5:03percent. And unlike the Butler game when you were plus nine on boards,
- 5:06you were minus whatever twelve in this game. And Alice Caravan, we wanted
- 5:12to get to him because he had to sit down for a while. He
- 5:15took an elbow in the head. It was actually talk about insult to injury.
- 5:19He gets called for the foul after gett an elbowed in the head.
- 5:23He's got the scar wide open bleeding. Goes to the bench. I know
- 5:28you went over. Luke Murray went over, like, let's go get back
- 5:30in the game. He goes, I can't. The bleeding won't stop.
- 5:33He looked like it was in a boxing match. That play, needless to
- 5:39say, confused me. Yeah, it was definitely confusing. And you know,
- 5:46just just you know, Alex didn't throw his face in the way of
- 5:48the elbow, and you see the you know, you see the play postgame
- 5:54locker room and on the plane when you're doing the added you know, you're
- 5:58you're really confused to you know where the flagrant foul was. I mean,
- 6:03it was a an offensive move where the offensive player swung his elbow into the
- 6:11face and caused the ten stitch cut over the eye, and then you know,
- 6:17you we missed that, but then we called the touch foul after that
- 6:24defender got out, you know, So you know that that was obviously one
- 6:28of those situations where you look at Alex in the post game looking like Rocky
- 6:31Balboa after fight and creed and ways the foul got called on that on him.
- 6:39But you know, you're on the road, and that's why it's so
- 6:42hard to win on the road, and it's so hard to win on the
- 6:44in the Big East on the road because you gotta you gotta be willing to
- 6:47go to Helen back uh to get to win. Yeah, I thought that's
- 6:50something that the team probably learned from that from that battle with Xavier. We're
- 6:56back with Dan Hurley. The Yukon men's basketball coaches show rolls on You're on lar Field
