- 0:29five, the introduction of the producer to be named later and Jared here alongside
- 0:37Great to be with you. Third Hour. Doctor Bob McClure joins US President
- 0:41of the James Madison Institute. Doctor McClure, how are you, sir?
- 0:46Doing great? Preston? How are you? I'm doing well, obviously,
- 0:51you know we're all still sitting trying to figure out what in the world happened.
- 0:56Bob. When you caught wind of what took place Saturday, what was
- 0:59your immediate reaction? And then what is it now? A couple of days
- 1:03later, you know, Preston, we were my wife and I were just
- 1:08kind of out running errands and came back to the house. So we were
- 1:15probably ten minutes after it happened, and I was looking at the TV and
- 1:21I said, honey, you're not You're not going to believe what just happened.
- 1:23But Donald Trump's been shot. And at that moment, Preston, we
- 1:27didn't know if he was dead or not. He was still on the ground
- 1:32and so it was. It was horrible for this country. I had tremendous
- 1:41fear for what might happen afterwards, because at that moment, I thought he
- 1:45might be dead. And then the man stood up and we heard, you
- 1:49know, let me get my shoes, Let me get my shoes. And
- 1:52then he fifth pumped everybody. And I mean, you don't have to love
- 1:57the guy, but I got choked up. I mean I got choked up
- 2:01for this country when he did that, and it was it was an unbelievable
- 2:07moment that will be etched in everybody's history. They will know where they were
- 2:12when this happened. Today. You know what I find ironic, there's no
- 2:15writing in the streets by this horrible right wing conspiracy. There's nobody chanting,
- 2:23you know, death to the cops or or or you know, there's nobody
- 2:30burning buildings. It's the main thing. You know. We're the right,
- 2:34the conservatives, and look Trump is not you know, he's not the perfect
- 2:38conservative, but as an organization that believes in founding principles in smaller government,
- 2:43and we're always accused of somehow being you know, uh, we're the ones
- 2:47who are the threat to democracy. I haven't seen any rights yet. I
- 2:51haven't seen any killings yet. I haven't seen any burnings yet. Maybe you
- 2:53have Nope, No, But what I have seen, doctor McClure, is
- 3:00the inadequacy of the detail and the advanced protection for President Trump on Saturday has
- 3:09opened the door to a lot of questions. And I think that a lot
- 3:13of us are getting to where we're asking the question not so much was this
- 3:19any kind of conspiracy to kill Trump? But was this allowed? Because there's
- 3:24just there are too many protocols that were broken. No, you're right,
- 3:30And the irony of it is Joe Biden in his press conference says, Oh,
- 3:34I've got the FBI, the dj the ATF, the ABC, the
- 3:38XYZ. You know, we're on top of this and we will get to
- 3:42the bottom of it. Really, does anyone really believe trust that that's going
- 3:47to happen, given what happened with the misinformation with COVID, given what we've
- 3:53seen from this administration. I mean, it's ironic that a man who's been
- 3:59in DC for fifty plus years, who's never had a real job, who
- 4:03doesn't understand how the private sector works, is saying, oh, we'll take
- 4:06care of it in Washington and of course they do. They have to because
- 4:10obviously that's what happened. But I agree with you there was a breach.
- 4:14There was a stunning miscalculation something, and you know, I'm glad to see
- 4:21Speaker Johnson who has really emerged. Preston I think is a real leader of
- 4:28conservatism in ways I underestimated. I really liked Speaker Johnson. I believe they're
- 4:31going to get to the bottom of it, and I hope they do and
- 4:34quickly. You are listening to the mad Radio Network, where you're challenged to
- 4:40make a difference each and every day. Good morning, and welcome to the
- 4:44Morning Show with Preston Scott. Doctor Bob McClure, President of the James Manison
- 4:51James Madison Institute. I can say that with me this morning on the Morning
- 4:55Show, Doctor McClure, I mentioned that if jd Vance is on a debate
- 5:00stage with Kamala Harris, that that's going to be a first round knockout.
- 5:05It reminded me of when Marco Rubio got on the stage with Charlie crist I
- 5:10felt like the moment that happened, that race was over. I feel similarly
- 5:14though we vote as a ticket obviously but your thoughts on the pick. You
- 5:19know, I think Donald Trump went with He didn't go with the de I
- 5:24pick, did he Preston? He went with somebody he's comfortable with. He
- 5:27went with somebody who's incredibly accomplished. He you know, uh, former military
- 5:32marine, fought in Afghanistan, in business, you know, accomplished author.
- 5:40The list goes on, and his life story is just incredible, with hillbilly
- 5:46elgy and and and being raised by his grandmother and those kinds of things.
- 5:50He's incredibly articulate. You're absolutely right that debate is going to be it'll be
- 5:57over before it starts. And I mean, you know, the cards that
- 6:01she will play will be the same cards they always play when they can't compete
- 6:05on the issues of policy. But really, look, if you look at
- 6:11the electoral map, George is coming off the map, Arizona's coming off the
- 6:15map, and then really Trump needs to find one more I mean, assuming
- 6:21he wins everything he won last time, which he is. Right now,
- 6:25if Georgia comes off the map and Arizona comes off the bat, not Nevada,
- 6:28he needs Nevada will come off the map too, but he needs more
- 6:30than six electoral votes. He's just got to find one of Michigan, Pennsylvania,
- 6:35Wisconsin, Virginia, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and it's over. And
- 6:41so I think Jeddie Vance's not only is it the American dreamer at large his
- 6:46life, but it's going to appeal to those working class Americans in many of
- 6:53those Midwestern states who want their shot at the American dream. And that's what
- 6:57Donald Trump is promising. You know, Justin Haskins of the Heartland Institute joined
- 7:01us earlier in I think it was last week, and he mentioned that,
- 7:05you know, the electoral map is actually gone in favor of Trump even before
- 7:11we have any actual voting because of the apportionment of electoral votes due to population,
- 7:17and so that even heading in, he's closer than he would have been
- 7:20otherwise. That's exactly right. I mean, if Donald Trump wins every state,
- 7:26as I said that he won last time, he wins George in Arizona,
- 7:30he's just got to find a combination of eight or nine more votes,
- 7:34I can't remember the exact number, and he's there. So it's one Wisconsin.
- 7:38I mean, if he went Pennsylvania, it's over a combination Nevada,
- 7:42New Hampshire, or something like that. And what you see is the map
- 7:45is expanding for Donald Trump, not contracting, and it's contracting for Joe Biden.
- 7:53And so you're right, and I think you're going to continue to see
- 7:57the census grow, the date. The value freedom. We've seen that.
- 8:01You know, we've all heard the term live free or die. Americans are
- 8:05choosing to live for your move and it's we're seeing it. That's the great
- 8:09unfold conversation. That's a great untold story of this nation. Thousand people moving
- 8:15here today and they're moving the states. The value capital, freedom, opportunity,
- 8:20life, school, choice, preston those kinds of things. That's just
- 8:24going to continue to move in that direction. And it doesn't matter what your
- 8:28demographic is. You want your shot at the American dream to you know what
- 8:31you need to You need to raise a little money for JMI. I mean
- 8:35you can always use a few bucks, right, raise raise get a T
- 8:39shirt done with the state of Florida and put that slogan on there, live
- 8:45free or Move. Yeah, you'll sell some shirts, my friend, and
- 8:50I'll help you. I'll help you sell those shirts, all right. I'll
- 8:56give you a finder's fee. No, I don't want any finder's fee.
- 8:58I want all all of that money going to JMI, Doctor Bob McClure with
- 9:03me stand by doctor McClure when we come back voting. You know, we
- 9:07were just talking about the electoral map, will to get to the electoral votes
- 9:11you got to vote? And where are we in that Florida? Certainly,
- 9:16how fun is it that that, twenty four years after the debacle of two
- 9:20thousand, Florida is like one of the paragons of voting integrity WFLA at WFLA,
- 9:28fam dot com on your phone with the iHeartRadio app and on hundreds of
- 9:31devices like Alexa, Google Home, Xbox, and Sono Seniheart's radio station.
- 9:41Twenty one past doctor Bob McClure, President JMI better known as James Madison Institute,
- 9:50Doctor McClure. Florida and its election processes pretty much right now, button
- 9:58down, don't you think, Oh yeah, very much. So. You
- 10:03know, we come off the debacle of bushby Gore, but then we had
- 10:09essentially eight years of Rick Scott in another now six years of Governor DeSantis,
- 10:16and we have every form of voting in Florida. We have mail in,
- 10:22we have you know, limited drop box you can drop off, you know
- 10:26your you know a few you have in person. And in a state like
- 10:33Florida with twenty two million, twenty three million people, a thousand people moving
- 10:37here today, two time zones, we know who wins every race. By
- 10:41midnight it's over uh. And there are several reasons for that one. And
- 10:46these are no particular order pressing. But we obviously have cleaned up the roles
- 10:52so there are fewer and fewer dead people wrong people who are not on the
- 10:58rolls any more. My daughter lived in Atlanta and she was in a rental
- 11:05house and one election year she got six different ballots from six different names of
- 11:11people who had lived in that rental house previously. It's in Atlanta. Now,
- 11:16I think Brian kIPS cleaned that up. We don't have that problem here
- 11:20in Florida. It's not perfect, but we've cleaned it up. The other
- 11:22thing is that you can track. There are guard rails on you know,
- 11:31on what you can and can't do. You're signing an affidavit, there's signature
- 11:37verification, there's ID required, and then they count the votes preston as they
- 11:43come in. You can look on Twitter and every day it'll say thirty thousand
- 11:48Republicans voted, twenty thousand Democrats, ten thousand no party affiliations. Now you
- 11:54don't know how they voted, but they're counted ahead of time, and so
- 11:58Florida has become the actual paragon of all forms of voting. Sure, would
- 12:03we like to go back to one day voting paper ballots. Yes, don't
- 12:07think that's going to happen in our lifetimes. It just don't think it will.
- 12:09But there are ways to do it correctly. And I'm really glad.
- 12:15I'm really glad. I say one more thing that and I heard this last
- 12:16night. Elon Musk and a group of billionaires I don't know if you heard
- 12:20this, have donated forty five million dollars a month between now an election day
- 12:30to build out the Republican apparatus for ballot boxes in certain states, for early
- 12:35voting, for poll watching, for all of these things that the Democrats know
- 12:39how to do, and Republicans have not done very well. They've been way
- 12:45behind the curve for years. Forty five million dollars a month just for those
- 12:50kinds of resources, and I think that's going to make a big difference.
- 12:54Because last thing, John Feederman was up three hundred and fifty thousand votes on
- 12:58election day when Oz, who's not a very good candidate, when when he
- 13:03took on OZ three hundred and fifty thousand votes. You can't you can't allow
- 13:07that to happen and expect to win an election. The story I'm looking at
- 13:11shows that Musk is going to donate forty five million per month to the pack
- 13:16himself, and just yeah, I mean, I guess if you've got the
- 13:22spare change laying around, I suppose that's a good thing. Tell me this,
- 13:26doctor mccluur, is there any area that Florida needs to tighten down?
- 13:33In other words, you know, here in Leon County where where we call
- 13:37home. I've always thought that the optical scanner that allows for a paper ballot
- 13:41backup is the perfect way to vote. Is that done uniformly across the state.
- 13:48Is that what we've adopted or there are there's still improvements to be made.
- 13:52No, there are improvements to be made. Not every county does that.
- 13:54You know, you and you know I thought Ion Sancho was kind of
- 14:00at the forefront, one of the early, our early supervisor of elections of
- 14:05this kind of technology and this kind of thing. I think you're right.
- 14:09Not every county does it. There are counties I think, if I remember
- 14:13correctly browered and a couple of others that do not U but we we have
- 14:20and it's kind of this the the eternal vigilance, uh you know statement,
- 14:24we have to stay eternally vigil vigilant on these things. It it'd be great
- 14:30to go to this on a uniform basis, but we're not uniformed. Different
- 14:35counties have different ways of doing these things, and I can't recall everyone in
- 14:39every county, but they're not uniform. Is that something that the legislature,
- 14:43in your opinion, should look at making uniform across the state? Yes,
- 14:48I absolutely do, and I think they should look continue to look at things
- 14:54every every session because technology changes and U people come and go and all of
- 15:01those kinds of things. So this should be an annual event to analyze election
- 15:09integrity, cyber hacking, those kinds of things are going to continue AI down
- 15:15the road. Where will that take us? So yeah, they should look
- 15:18not only at the basic ability to vote, to your point, but then
- 15:22also so much more that can affect our system. Good stuff. As always,
- 15:26doctor McClure, thanks for the time. I look forward to our visit
- 15:30next month. Thank you, my friend, thanks for having me. Yes,
- 15:33Sir, Doctor Bob McClure with US President James Madison Institute, twenty seven
- 15:37minutes past the hour
