- 0:00Aloha. Saturday in Hawaiʻi. Breezy weekend ahead, with showers ramping up starting tonight.
- 1:50Fresh to strong trade winds are moving through all islands right now. Showers will increase Saturday night into Sunday morning, especially on windward and interior slopes—but some of that rain is spilling over to leeward coasts too, which is unusual. If you're planning outdoor time, hit the west and south shores this morning before the showers thicken. East-facing beaches will be rough and choppy from the wind. North shores stay flat.
- 2:12Surf is mixed. Oʻahu's south shore is running 4.2 feet—moderate, with a strong shore break. North shore is 4.7 feet, same story. Maui's more protected at 3 feet, comfortable for swimmers. The Big Island is calm at 1.5 feet. Kauaʻi is firing at 6.4 feet—that's experienced surfers and swimmers only. Powerful shore break, keep kids and snorkelers clear.
- 2:30At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Kīlauea is currently erupting and marked as a danger zone—stay clear if volcanic ash is in the air. Several trails and roads are also closed right now: Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail from hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under replacement. Plan around those closures if you're headed that direction.
- 2:47Our new piece on lei-making workshops walks through the hands-on classes you can fit into a busy day. You learn the fundamentals, walk away with something you actually made, and it's quieter cultural work than most tourist activities. If you're looking to slow down this weekend, it's a solid hour.
- 3:02Sunday the showers ease after morning. Higher tides Monday through Wednesday will bring coastal flooding risk in some low-lying shore areas—keep an eye out if you're staying near the coast. Mid-week another moisture system may move in.
- 3:14Full lei-making guide is on the site. Talk to you tomorrow.
