- 0:26Speaker 3: HiT's the class fee. I'll go hard. Thank you. Welcome
- 0:32Speaker 3: back to another episode of the Mixed Company Podcast. My
- 0:36Speaker 3: name is Jamison Welsh and I am joined with the
- 0:38Speaker 3: classy alcoholic classy. What's going on? Man? Man?
- 0:42Speaker 2: I am feeling great. We're here with episode eleven, our
- 0:44Speaker 2: first episode March, which is an awesome month. It's Women's
- 0:47Speaker 2: history month, shout outs to ladies. It's Arizona Wine Month. Yes,
- 0:51Speaker 2: we do have wine country in this state, believe it
- 0:53Speaker 2: or not. And college ball is in full swing. So
- 0:56Speaker 2: are you a college basketball fan, Jamison? Or you do do?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Strictly do in the NBA?
- 1:00Speaker 3: I am I'm more NBA fan than college, but I
- 1:02Speaker 3: do enjoy watching college run this time of year. You know,
- 1:05Speaker 3: it's always good for this, you know, but every other
- 1:08Speaker 3: tournament's going on. It's a lot of action, it's a
- 1:10Speaker 3: lot of excitement, a lot of upsets, so it's good
- 1:13Speaker 3: to watch. It's always good to watch TV that is
- 1:17Speaker 3: live and unpredictable, so it's good to feel. But also
- 1:20Speaker 3: you mentioned something, you're talking about wine and whatnot. I've
- 1:23Speaker 3: we've had ten this eleven show. I never heard you
- 1:27Speaker 3: bring up wine before. I've heard beer. Yeah, I've heard tequila.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I've heard whiskey. I ain't heard about no damn wine.
- 1:33Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Man, I'm a wine guy too. First of all, I'll
- 1:36Speaker 2: drink pretty much anything, but yeah, no, I my favorite
- 1:39Speaker 2: things that drink are craft beer and tequila and whiskey.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But no, no, I've spent a lot of time in
- 1:44Speaker 2: Arizona wine country.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:45Speaker 2: They got three different sections of the state, two in
- 1:49Speaker 2: the southeast, one up north, the nicer one is up north,
- 1:52Speaker 2: the ones in the southeaster, and like one of them
- 1:54Speaker 2: is in Wilcox, which is like a methy town.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but it has also like it has the perfect elevation.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Shouldn't grow great so you can go to you know,
- 2:02Speaker 2: wine tasting. It's like kind of upper middle class. You
- 2:05Speaker 2: got people up there, you know, they spent they're spending
- 2:07Speaker 2: some money. And then on the way out of town
- 2:08Speaker 2: you stop the circle k and you see, you know
- 2:10Speaker 2: a lot of folks who partake in the meth probably,
- 2:13Speaker 2: so it's a wild town. It's a wild town.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Okay, okay, fair enough, fair enough. Well it is Mark
- 2:19Speaker 3: And normally around this time we get rolled with some
- 2:21Speaker 3: of the fights and whatnot. So I'm kind of curious
- 2:23Speaker 3: that to hear your thoughts on what happened, you know, recently.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, let me see. This morning, I woke up,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I woke up way earlier than usual, by which I
- 2:33Speaker 2: mean eleven forty five am, grabbed a coffee, spiked it
- 2:35Speaker 2: with Irish corps, then walked over to the new stand
- 2:38Speaker 2: to get a copy of the Boxing Gazette. So let's
- 2:41Speaker 2: stroll through the news here. I'm leaving through this, and
- 2:43Speaker 2: I think I'm I cursed myself after last episode when
- 2:46Speaker 2: I was what I said, I was sick of talking
- 2:47Speaker 2: about Tank Davis versus Lamarck Coroach because then now there's
- 2:51Speaker 2: been so much more shit that happened during the fight
- 2:53Speaker 2: since the fight just a couple of days ago. It
- 2:56Speaker 2: turns out that the New York State Athletic Commission will
- 2:58Speaker 2: allow the results of the fight to stand so just
- 3:01Speaker 2: really quickly for anybody to watch the fight with the
- 3:04Speaker 2: distance Tank one with the majority draw, so two judges
- 3:08Speaker 2: said it was a draw. One gave it to Tank.
- 3:10Speaker 2: There was controversy about him choosing to take a knee
- 3:12Speaker 2: in the middle of a round, supposedly to have his
- 3:14Speaker 2: corner wipe off hair grease that was getting into his
- 3:16Speaker 2: eye wasn't counted as a knockdown by the ref. Roach's
- 3:20Speaker 2: team filed a complaint with the State Athletic Commission. The
- 3:22Speaker 2: commission responded by saying, quote, damn, that's crazy. Good look
- 3:25Speaker 2: with the next fight, though, but did you think there
- 3:28Speaker 2: was any chance that the results would have gotten overturned?
- 3:31Speaker 3: Don't get it. Don't work that way any due owners,
- 3:33Speaker 3: It don't work that way. You know.
- 3:35Speaker 2: This is how it goes.
- 3:36Speaker 3: It's it's messed up for roa too far or a
- 3:38Speaker 3: really good fight that night and shouldn't have could have won,
- 3:41Speaker 3: but it don't worked that way. However, he's gonna rematch.
- 3:45Speaker 3: It's just a matter of time. Sooner the better. But
- 3:48Speaker 3: we're gonna have a rematch, which is fine, and if
- 3:51Speaker 3: Roach is really that good, he'll be able to show
- 3:53Speaker 3: up and and fight too and see what we could do.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But man, that sucks though, Like it really doesn't. I've
- 3:58Speaker 3: never seen a knock out, not down, not get counted,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and the reason for it was that I've never seen
- 4:05Speaker 3: that before. So it to me. I feel for Oach.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I feel for him as one of those nights where
- 4:14Speaker 3: it could have been a career in the finding night,
- 4:16Speaker 3: it could have been life changing night. However, he's gonna
- 4:19Speaker 3: have more opportunity. So here we are.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Well, I mean, going to distance against Tank Davis is
- 4:24Speaker 2: in and of itself, it's a huge deal. So you
- 4:26Speaker 2: gotta you know, we can't say that the guy didn't
- 4:29Speaker 2: put it first, put in a lot of great work
- 4:31Speaker 2: in the fight, and also the outcome was wildly unexpected.
- 4:33Speaker 2: You know, I didn't bet on this one in particular,
- 4:35Speaker 2: but if I had, I would have bet on a knockout.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You know, we talked about it four around six seven eight,
- 4:41Speaker 2: Tank knocking him out, So props to him. But yeah, definitely,
- 4:47Speaker 2: I feel like again I'm cursing myself because we're gonna
- 4:49Speaker 2: be we're talking about this again when the rematch happens.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But how do you think the rematch would go?
- 4:56Speaker 3: I think Tank wins in a rematch. I think you'll
- 4:58Speaker 3: have a better plan. I think he'll understand what it
- 5:01Speaker 3: takes to be more decisive. But man, the going for
- 5:07Speaker 3: Ko's only method is not it. Even though he's a
- 5:11Speaker 3: very skilled fighter, Tank is a little bit overrated because
- 5:17Speaker 3: when a boxer twot makes him think and adjust and adapt,
- 5:21Speaker 3: he's not as quickly to attack. He's very hesitant to
- 5:26Speaker 3: attack when he has to adjust and adapt in the
- 5:29Speaker 3: ring and change game plans and think when he fights
- 5:33Speaker 3: talented guys. But that don't make you think or adjust
- 5:36Speaker 3: on the fly. He's pretty easy going and while he
- 5:40Speaker 3: attacks the opposition, but when a fighter throws a wrenching
- 5:43Speaker 3: at things when it's a tough fight. I've seen some
- 5:46Speaker 3: things in the last fight that give me some hesitancy
- 5:49Speaker 3: going forward about Tank again, knock out power in each hand.
- 5:54Speaker 3: We know what he's he's made his name off of.
- 5:57Speaker 3: But if he's fighting elite, skilled, talented eyes that can
- 6:02Speaker 3: take his punch, or if they away from his KO
- 6:04Speaker 3: punch and make him box, I have some doubts.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Sure. I mean, I think that you're right going for
- 6:12Speaker 2: the KO every time. It's not the best strategy, but
- 6:14Speaker 2: when I looked it up, he's got like a ninety
- 6:16Speaker 2: three percent ko average at that point you're like, hey,
- 6:19Speaker 2: this could work. I mean, you know, if it ain't broke.
- 6:22Speaker 2: So I understand. I mean a lot has been said
- 6:24Speaker 2: by other boxing media, by you know, the commentators that
- 6:28Speaker 2: think they're there as great as us, but you know
- 6:30Speaker 2: they're good, they're good, but you know, we're the top
- 6:32Speaker 2: of cream of the crop. So but it has been said.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I think that I don't think there's anybody that can
- 6:38Speaker 2: really say that tank taking a knee or anybody taking
- 6:40Speaker 2: a knee in the middle of a round shouldn't be
- 6:41Speaker 2: a knockdown for whatever reason. Let's give him let's say
- 6:45Speaker 2: that he was absolutely telling the truth about the grease
- 6:47Speaker 2: and his hair. So sorry, yeah, the grease in his
- 6:49Speaker 2: hair getting in his eye, it doesn't matter. You know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: there's no timeouts in boxing. You can't just do that shit.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You wait till till the bell rings, or you take
- 6:56Speaker 2: the knockdown. Yep. And let's not forget taking a knee
- 6:59Speaker 2: when you getting pummeled. It can be a good, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 2: a good strategy to kind of take that eight second
- 7:04Speaker 2: breather because it's better to take a knee when you're
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know, getting overwhelmed then getting knocked the hell out
- 7:09Speaker 2: and getting put to sleep right, So it can be
- 7:11Speaker 2: used strategically, but it's still knocked out always.
- 7:16Speaker 3: You got to use the vet move if you need
- 7:18Speaker 3: get stoppage. Your mouthpiece has to come out of your
- 7:21Speaker 3: mouth if you're trying, if you need a timeout, not
- 7:25Speaker 3: saying it's the right thing to do with the most
- 7:26Speaker 3: ethical The mouthpiece has to come out to where the
- 7:30Speaker 3: corner got to put it in, and while that they're
- 7:32Speaker 3: doing that, they can give a quick wipe of the
- 7:34Speaker 3: eyes and that could have been what it was going
- 7:37Speaker 3: to be. However, with that all being said, our refereeing
- 7:41Speaker 3: has to get better because that's all we're talking about
- 7:43Speaker 3: from the fight. We can't keep having these things happen.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And for the casual person that's turned a Tank and
- 7:50Speaker 3: that checked in, that is not a good look for them.
- 7:52Speaker 3: It's not a good look at all. Right.
- 7:54Speaker 2: You know, Tank is a very hype fighter for a
- 7:56Speaker 2: good reason. But yeah, if the first fight you ten
- 7:59Speaker 2: into you see him taking a knee and not getting
- 8:01Speaker 2: any consequence from it, you know that's that. Yeah, that
- 8:03Speaker 2: makes the refluc shitty, That makes the sport look shitty.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I'll say that's finish off by this story by saying
- 8:09Speaker 2: this Tank is a professional fighter, He's very skilled. You know,
- 8:13Speaker 2: all I've ever done is sparring. I will say though,
- 8:16Speaker 2: there are times when my contact lens fell out many
- 8:19Speaker 2: times during sparring, fell into the onto my glove or
- 8:22Speaker 2: on the ground on the mat, and I just flicked
- 8:24Speaker 2: it away and I just kept going because I didn't
- 8:25Speaker 2: hear that fucking bell. So not saying that I'm better
- 8:28Speaker 2: than Tank, all I'm saying is that that's what you
- 8:30Speaker 2: got to do, fight or die.
- 8:33Speaker 3: That's correct, yea, that's what you signed up for it.
- 8:35Speaker 3: When you sign up for that, that's what it is.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But also, if the fight wasn't going, if the fight
- 8:42Speaker 3: was going a different way, we're not talking about this.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But the fight was too close to where that rounds
- 8:47Speaker 3: ten to eight the other way changed everything. And that's
- 8:51Speaker 3: the reason why we're talking about it. If Tank won
- 8:53Speaker 3: one O eight, we're not even it's not even a thing,
- 8:56Speaker 3: it's not even. The fact is to fight deciding thing
- 9:01Speaker 3: and a career, potential, career defining moment for both guys,
- 9:06Speaker 3: and it went away. Now, who's to say if that
- 9:09Speaker 3: doesn't count it? If Tank is more aggressive going forward,
- 9:11Speaker 3: who knows. I don't know, but I'm interested to see
- 9:15Speaker 3: what happens going forward, right because both guys what they won.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Roach and his camp thinks they won Tank this camp
- 9:21Speaker 3: think they want. I'm curiously what happens going forward. I'm
- 9:24Speaker 3: very curious to that, you know, and they won't. We
- 9:27Speaker 3: don't draw next time. I'll put it that way.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's that's a really good point. You know,
- 9:31Speaker 2: there's two things that should be made very clear. You know,
- 9:33Speaker 2: the conversation go here and there. Everybody has their own opinions,
- 9:36Speaker 2: but at the end of the day, Number one is yes,
- 9:38Speaker 2: that should have been a knockdown. Number two, you're right,
- 9:40Speaker 2: we're only talking about it because Tank was not dominating.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Roach was holding his own, which is a big deal.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So if it still would have been controversial. But if yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 2: if Tank had a unanimous decision or a knockout for
- 9:52Speaker 2: that matter, at the end of the on the tenth round,
- 9:55Speaker 2: we will not be here. So yeah, I mean, there's
- 9:59Speaker 2: it's three minute rounds for a reason. You got your
- 10:01Speaker 2: one minute break, and that's when you figure out what
- 10:04Speaker 2: if something's bothering you, if there's an issue. I remember
- 10:07Speaker 2: one time during sparring you know, I did the thing
- 10:09Speaker 2: when my contact fell out, I just flipped it away,
- 10:11Speaker 2: kept going. I actually tried to put it in between rounds,
- 10:14Speaker 2: and it just wasn't good getting it. It wasn't staying,
- 10:17Speaker 2: kept falling out, the bell was about to ring again,
- 10:19Speaker 2: the trainer goes, leave it. You can't put it back
- 10:21Speaker 2: onto the streets. I was like, all right, all right,
- 10:24Speaker 2: So all right.
- 10:26Speaker 3: The streets is a whole different situation, right, because then
- 10:28Speaker 3: the streets just don't rule. Sure you boxing, there's rules
- 10:32Speaker 3: and stuff, So I disagree with that. However, with that
- 10:35Speaker 3: being said, when it comes to boxing, it's one of
- 10:40Speaker 3: those things to where it feels like the rules are
- 10:44Speaker 3: only when they benefit certain people, they only apply to
- 10:47Speaker 3: certain people. And that ain't it. That's not that's not it,
- 10:51Speaker 3: that's not how it's supposed to work. And that was
- 10:53Speaker 3: not a good look the other day. Hopefully going forward
- 10:56Speaker 3: that is not the case. But man, it's a bad look.
- 10:59Speaker 3: But I will say this, if I'm Shaker Stevenson, if
- 11:02Speaker 3: I'm Boots, if I'm Devin Haney, if I'm a little
- 11:06Speaker 3: a chinker, I'm looking at that fight like oh yeah,
- 11:11Speaker 3: I'm looking like hey, like okay, there's a chicken and
- 11:14Speaker 3: armor here. That's not what it looks like. It's not
- 11:17Speaker 3: this devastating KO guy. If I can stay away from
- 11:20Speaker 3: his power, I can win the fight on being more
- 11:23Speaker 3: active and getting landing more punches and making him think
- 11:27Speaker 3: constantly instead of sit on a sit on a koh.
- 11:32Speaker 3: So that's what's more fascinating to me is that I
- 11:34Speaker 3: think it'll open the potential for the other suitors in
- 11:38Speaker 3: the in that weight class or that in that range
- 11:41Speaker 3: to like, you know what, I don't mind. I'm want
- 11:42Speaker 3: a problem fighting Tank. Let's get it up so well.
- 11:45Speaker 3: See what Also, if you notice I ain't hear no
- 11:47Speaker 3: retirement talk from Tank either that fight happened. I ain't
- 11:50Speaker 3: hear no retirement. I heard us pretty much as as possible.
- 11:53Speaker 3: It's funny how that works.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, He's we said last episode. He was the
- 11:57Speaker 2: one that's like talking about it constantly. He's the one
- 11:59Speaker 2: that see most bent are stuck on retiring very soon
- 12:05Speaker 2: at the end of this year. So yeah, we'll see
- 12:06Speaker 2: maybe uh who knows, maybe he will retire if he'd
- 12:09Speaker 2: loses the next one.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I don't know. I doubt it because the money is
- 12:12Speaker 3: too good. The thing that people don't realize is the
- 12:16Speaker 3: you only have a certain amount of window to cash
- 12:18Speaker 3: in on your monetary value. And when it comes to that,
- 12:25Speaker 3: even if he loses, he's still a name that people
- 12:27Speaker 3: recognize and people will go see. I don't see him
- 12:30Speaker 3: retires sing anything out of the time. I see these
- 12:32Speaker 3: guys fighting until they can't because one is only so
- 12:35Speaker 3: many big fights that can be made period, right, There's
- 12:37Speaker 3: only so many fights that the general public want to see.
- 12:41Speaker 3: So when you can put those together, you do it.
- 12:43Speaker 3: That's why we're getting Canello Crawford in six months. That's
- 12:47Speaker 3: the reason why you only get some of those opportunities.
- 12:50Speaker 3: So I don't think anyone's retiring while they have more
- 12:54Speaker 3: fights to make. I'd be very surprised if he retires.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Anyone else retires, and they're probably just be shocked. It
- 12:59Speaker 3: just doesn't work out.
- 12:59Speaker 2: We gotcha? Well, I hope I don't end up like
- 13:03Speaker 2: a doctor Manhattan. It's December twenty twenty four, and I'm
- 13:06Speaker 2: gonna podcast talking Tank versus Roach. It's March twenty twenty five.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I'm on a podcast that's causing Tank Forris wrote, Yeah, Yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 2: It's May five and I'm gonna be condomed to it.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But all right, flip into the next story. Uh, this news.
- 13:18Speaker 2: This next story is about another guy we've been talking
- 13:20Speaker 2: a lot about lately, Dimitri beval So the WBC World
- 13:24Speaker 2: Boxing Commission has made or bloxing Council, sorry, has made
- 13:27Speaker 2: David Benavitez from Phoenix the mandatory challenger for Bevall next
- 13:31Speaker 2: and it's actually given a deadline of April eighth for
- 13:33Speaker 2: a fight to be negotiated. Uh. Even though Bevall was
- 13:36Speaker 2: talking like he was the ship he'd take on anybody,
- 13:38Speaker 2: you want to talk about tunes changing after the last one,
- 13:40Speaker 2: he was like, I fight that new one. I fight Avidez,
- 13:43Speaker 2: I fight Canelo, I fight Ben and Woods give sheet.
- 13:46Speaker 2: But his tune has changed a bit. After the WBC
- 13:49Speaker 2: ordered the fight, Bevo was on Twitter saying, well, he's
- 13:51Speaker 2: waiting for his next move from his from his team
- 13:53Speaker 2: as promoters Takiela Shak already and Turkey La Shak was
- 13:56Speaker 2: already saying he's not interested in the Benavitaz fight. So Jamison,
- 14:00Speaker 2: is Dimitri Vival gonna duck Benevidez as well.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I think it's done though, I think it's done. I
- 14:09Speaker 3: think it's more about whenever you hear about whenever a
- 14:12Speaker 3: boxer starts tweeting and talking, it's more about the money
- 14:15Speaker 3: splits than anything else. That's what's getting impacted, and that's
- 14:18Speaker 3: what it's mostly about, not necessarily ducking. It's about getting
- 14:21Speaker 3: more of the split or whatever pie there is. Sure.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But if if the money is the issue, which understood
- 14:29Speaker 2: money money is a major issue, is our favorite philosopher
- 14:31Speaker 2: Pitbull put it, then that means that the money may
- 14:36Speaker 2: be better for a better be of Bevil trilogy and
- 14:41Speaker 2: not a Benevidez bev All fight.
- 14:43Speaker 3: No, I'm with you.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's what Canelo said about the Benavidas fight.
- 14:48Speaker 2: It might be trued out, but he said, hey, the
- 14:49Speaker 2: money's not right, so you know, and they called, they
- 14:52Speaker 2: called my boy, they're a duck. So what are we
- 14:56Speaker 2: gonna say? All I want to say I want people
- 14:57Speaker 2: to keep that same energy for Demetri Bival.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Okay, No, I hear you, I hear you, and I'm
- 15:01Speaker 3: with you. I am not personally a fan of. If
- 15:06Speaker 3: you want to fight somebody, just fight him, right, don't
- 15:07Speaker 3: play the game. I'm not with the Oh I don't
- 15:10Speaker 3: know or oh A need more money or oh well,
- 15:13Speaker 3: now if you want to if you want to fight somebody,
- 15:15Speaker 3: you go ahead and fight them. That's how it should be.
- 15:17Speaker 3: But again, this is boxing in twenty twenty five. It's
- 15:20Speaker 3: never as easy as it sounds. It's never as easy
- 15:23Speaker 3: as hey, you want to fight him, it's not a contract,
- 15:25Speaker 3: let's go. It's never that easy.
- 15:27Speaker 2: It never is right and understood. That's fair all you know.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Like I said, all I say is the talk went
- 15:34Speaker 2: one way during the last people better be a fight
- 15:36Speaker 2: about you know, even Turkila. She goes like, yeah, let's
- 15:38Speaker 2: do it. You know, let's let's do Benavidez with the
- 15:40Speaker 2: winner of this man, I'm down, call out Hayman from PBC,
- 15:42Speaker 2: blah blah blah. I like, everybody's talking big and then
- 15:45Speaker 2: you know, give it a couple of weeks and everyone's
- 15:47Speaker 2: more like lukewarm on the issue. And like I said,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I just want I want the fans, you know, I
- 15:52Speaker 2: want to see y'all commenting Bena Vitez's name on every
- 15:56Speaker 2: fucking beval social media post for years. I want you
- 15:59Speaker 2: to come up with stupid nicknames that you you should
- 16:02Speaker 2: be embarrassed to comment, like Dunky Tree, Vivoll or QUACKI
- 16:05Speaker 2: Tree or whatever the hell you guys come up with
- 16:07Speaker 2: out there. I want to see that ship for Boble
- 16:09Speaker 2: as well if he does end up fighting Benevita. So
- 16:12Speaker 2: but with that said, what is it looking like? Is
- 16:16Speaker 2: this tough? Because maybe like a better be of trilogy
- 16:19Speaker 2: is kind of losing its luster. Do people want to
- 16:21Speaker 2: see something different? I mean, big Bo's the big guy
- 16:24Speaker 2: to get He's a star now you.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Know yep, now, I hear you. I think part of
- 16:28Speaker 3: it is it has loss this lester. I don't know
- 16:30Speaker 3: there's a huge demand for that fight. That's the thing.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Outside of pure boxing fans, it's not a huge demand
- 16:36Speaker 3: for that, right, Like, that's not only the ones where
- 16:38Speaker 3: you're gonna pay forty five dollars for a pay per view.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Don't see it like it's one Now you're telling me
- 16:45Speaker 3: it's on Netflix, Okay. Cool, you're telling me it's on
- 16:49Speaker 3: like an ESPN or an Amazon Prime for the low okay.
- 16:54Speaker 3: But if you're trying to dodge fifty bucks for it,
- 16:56Speaker 3: you're gonna have a hell of a card. And that's
- 16:58Speaker 3: what I don't see, Like, I don't see the huge,
- 17:01Speaker 3: crazy demand for it. But if it's on. If it's on,
- 17:04Speaker 3: we would definitely watch. And if it's a Saturday night
- 17:07Speaker 3: when El's going on at that time, it's going to
- 17:09Speaker 3: gain a lot of different a lot different watchers from
- 17:13Speaker 3: different things, because you know that's how it goes. But
- 17:16Speaker 3: I do think it is listeners lesson because we're talking
- 17:18Speaker 3: about other fights and now that we have a lot
- 17:20Speaker 3: more guys in the one forty one forty seven range
- 17:23Speaker 3: fighting more actively, now everything else kind of just gets
- 17:27Speaker 3: washed away because as of right now, fast the most
- 17:30Speaker 3: popular division, not necessarily the best division, but the most
- 17:34Speaker 3: names are in that one for you to one forty
- 17:35Speaker 3: seven range at this moment, and you.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Know I'm on record, you can go back to previous episodes.
- 17:41Speaker 2: I won't change my tune. I said I would rather
- 17:44Speaker 2: see a better be Of trilogy before of being a
- 17:46Speaker 2: Benevitas fight, and I stand by that. All I'm saying
- 17:49Speaker 2: again is if people doesn't end up fighting Benavidez, I
- 17:52Speaker 2: want the fans to, uh you know who called out
- 17:54Speaker 2: Canelo for years, to keep up that same energy. And
- 17:56Speaker 2: that's all I'm saying.
- 17:57Speaker 3: No, absolutely, but there's rules that are It's different rules
- 18:00Speaker 3: for people, right So Canal is one of the faces
- 18:03Speaker 3: of the sport. Hell, he's probably the face of the
- 18:04Speaker 3: sports still, and he's a first BALLO Hall of Famer.
- 18:08Speaker 3: He's probably the face of the boxing generation since Floyda
- 18:11Speaker 3: has left. So his standards are different than anyone else. Now,
- 18:16Speaker 3: you are correct, the energy should be kept the same,
- 18:19Speaker 3: but as levels of this, Canelo's hell's whatever his standard
- 18:22Speaker 3: and pretty much anyone else that's been in boxing over
- 18:24Speaker 3: the last ten years.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Sure, and I agree with that. And again, all I'm
- 18:29Speaker 2: saying is that Bevil is he's the new big star.
- 18:31Speaker 2: He's the next big thing, and you know with for
- 18:34Speaker 2: a good reason. He's an excellent fighter, He's proven his metal.
- 18:37Speaker 2: He he beat Canilo and better b of So that's
- 18:39Speaker 2: that's not an easy test, so you know, and people
- 18:42Speaker 2: were giddy as fuck. The Canelo haters were giddy as fuck.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Would b Boll beat him? Let's not forget that, true, true, true.
- 18:48Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, you know, I I would love
- 18:51Speaker 2: to see I'd love to see the trilogy because those
- 18:54Speaker 2: last two fights are great. I would also love to
- 18:56Speaker 2: see Benavitez and Beevil a scrap after that. So all
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'll say, if we do get the trilogy, don't forget
- 19:03Speaker 2: about my man. Don't forget about David Benavidez. I think
- 19:05Speaker 2: he's earned a shot. And yeah, and you know we
- 19:09Speaker 2: talked about before about him waiting for Canelo because of
- 19:12Speaker 2: the bag, but him fighting people all again is not
- 19:14Speaker 2: going to be a light bag. So Benevidez is gonna
- 19:17Speaker 2: He's going to be just five the guys in this fight.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I think. So cool. Well, let's see flipping through the
- 19:24Speaker 2: news here all right, on the subject of Turkey Ella Shaikh,
- 19:27Speaker 2: who is a Saudi Arabian boxing promoter and current owner
- 19:30Speaker 2: of the Ring magazine. The next event he's hosting is
- 19:33Speaker 2: a massive one. It's actually three separate events across the world.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So yeah. The first one is on April twenty six,
- 19:38Speaker 2: Chris Ubek Junior fighting Connor Ben in London Brough. May second,
- 19:42Speaker 2: we'll see three fights taking place in Times Square like
- 19:45Speaker 2: out on the actual street. May third will be Canelo
- 19:48Speaker 2: versus Williams Skull in Saudi Arabia. This event is called
- 19:51Speaker 2: Fatal Fury because it's a collaboration with s NK, a
- 19:55Speaker 2: Japanese video game company, to promote a new fighting game.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Did you know about the Davidson or have you heard
- 19:59Speaker 2: of this game a little about it.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I don't all the details about to hear a little
- 20:01Speaker 3: bit about it.
- 20:03Speaker 2: This is wild to me. I mean it is. Yeah,
- 20:04Speaker 2: it's straight up like three boxing events, a boxing showcase,
- 20:08Speaker 2: whatever you want to call it, in collaboration with a
- 20:11Speaker 2: company promoting this game called Fatal Fury City of the Wolf. So,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I mean, I don't even know where to start because
- 20:16Speaker 2: there's so there's a lot of interesting things to talk
- 20:19Speaker 2: about here, because I was surprised that Fatal Fury referred
- 20:22Speaker 2: to a game. But we have spoken about how boxing
- 20:25Speaker 2: needs to be creative with this promotions, especially if Top
- 20:27Speaker 2: Rank leaves ESPN and boxing becomes a streaming only sport.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So is this something that could get help get boxing
- 20:34Speaker 2: more in the news, get more fans in What do
- 20:37Speaker 2: you think?
- 20:37Speaker 3: So the boxing issue is more for the States. International
- 20:41Speaker 3: boxing is fine in the States is where we're boxing
- 20:44Speaker 3: these issues now. The more money you can get to
- 20:47Speaker 3: the sport, the better because domestically, we've had a lot
- 20:49Speaker 3: of people pull out of the money, so that's been
- 20:52Speaker 3: issued domestically. So that's why we keep hearing these different partnerships.
- 20:56Speaker 3: That's why we got the Saudi money coming in you
- 20:58Speaker 3: mentioned the Japanese come that's why we keep having those
- 21:02Speaker 3: things keep coming in is because of the lack of
- 21:04Speaker 3: funds from the traditional outlets here. I don't have a
- 21:07Speaker 3: problem with I think it's a good thing. Even the
- 21:09Speaker 3: partnership with Dana White and the Saudi's are it is interesting.
- 21:13Speaker 3: I think more more money, more marketing, it all helps
- 21:17Speaker 3: the sport as long as the correct fights are being made,
- 21:20Speaker 3: as long as that's take a buzz. I think we
- 21:22Speaker 3: have a good situation going on. And to be honest
- 21:25Speaker 3: with you, I like that we're putting on more events,
- 21:28Speaker 3: more active, active guys, more names are fighting constantly. It's
- 21:31Speaker 3: good for the sport overall. So no complaints here, okay.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And what about specifically use of like a video game
- 21:39Speaker 2: company of all things, you know, because we've had sponsored
- 21:41Speaker 2: by like energy drinks and like movies, all of that.
- 21:44Speaker 2: You know, the video game. We've had a sponsorship from
- 21:47Speaker 2: video games and fights, but specifically a team up. I mean,
- 21:49Speaker 2: it's cool that it might appeal to the nerds. And
- 21:52Speaker 2: Fatal Fury is a fighting game after all. So yeah,
- 21:54Speaker 2: I know, what are your thoughts of that? Is that
- 21:57Speaker 2: is that gonna help? Is that gonna help bring in
- 21:59Speaker 2: new vises, new viewers.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I think it's unique because here's the thing, there's no
- 22:03Speaker 3: traditional way, there's no one set way of doing anything.
- 22:07Speaker 3: So if you can market things uniquely, if you can
- 22:09Speaker 3: have a different set of people that normally wouldn't watch
- 22:13Speaker 3: your stuff now pay attention because a new company's marketing it.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Think that's a good thing for every all parties involved.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So I think we need more of that. And to
- 22:21Speaker 3: be honest with you, you have to be very creative. I
- 22:24Speaker 3: don't like there's a guy on Twitter he used to
- 22:28Speaker 3: either cover boxing or covers it whatever. He's a hater.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I think it's Rick Slicer or something like that. He's
- 22:35Speaker 3: a hater and whever somebody, whenever the numbers come in,
- 22:39Speaker 3: he's quicked to blame out Hayman and quick the blame
- 22:41Speaker 3: other people. And you know what, you know you can
- 22:45Speaker 3: that's all right, you can do that. But to be
- 22:47Speaker 3: honest with you, that doesn't accomplish anything. Let's talk about solutions.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Let's think outside of the box to get the sport
- 22:54Speaker 3: we all love deep downside into more homes on more platforms,
- 22:59Speaker 3: market it better so that the casual people can enjoy it,
- 23:02Speaker 3: like we do instead of always hating the problem we
- 23:04Speaker 3: have with a merit with domestically with boxing. Everybody's hayden,
- 23:08Speaker 3: everyone's hat Oh that fighter ain't that good? Oh pay
- 23:12Speaker 3: per view, I'm not I'm not paying for that. Where's link?
- 23:14Speaker 3: Or oh I don't do I don't do PBC because
- 23:18Speaker 3: all haim exists, or I don't do this because uh
- 23:21Speaker 3: top ranks that. It's like nah, Like, let's let's figure
- 23:25Speaker 3: let's figure out how to bring more fights to and
- 23:29Speaker 3: make it more accessible. We should be having the old
- 23:32Speaker 3: nineteen ages nineteen nineties model of pay per view still
- 23:36Speaker 3: being prevalent today. We should be more advanced because every
- 23:39Speaker 3: other sport has been more advanced on how they showcase
- 23:42Speaker 3: their product except for boxing.
- 23:45Speaker 2: That's fair and I am one anybody's listening to this
- 23:49Speaker 2: any other episode of this show will know that I'm
- 23:51Speaker 2: with you on how I hate the haters. How it's
- 23:55Speaker 2: always this no fighter is good enough, you know, everybody's
- 23:58Speaker 2: stucking everybody, nobody has a good enough resume, and it's
- 24:01Speaker 2: just it gets old. Man, It's just like the same
- 24:03Speaker 2: shit over and over, Like do you even like the.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Sport'st the last thing we're not doing things for the
- 24:08Speaker 3: betterment of the sport anymore. It's all about personal agendas.
- 24:11Speaker 3: It's not about, oh, you know what, I have my opinion,
- 24:15Speaker 3: but I got to get this agenda off r nah, Like,
- 24:18Speaker 3: let's focus on getting more fights and getting into where
- 24:22Speaker 3: people can watch them, whether for free or for a
- 24:27Speaker 3: very inexpensive way. It's that every must have to pay
- 24:29Speaker 3: per view is an old thing, and you're wrong. Every
- 24:31Speaker 3: gotta make the money. I get it, but we should
- 24:34Speaker 3: be advanced that point to where you got I remember
- 24:37Speaker 3: a lot most people watch on their phone, their tablet, computer,
- 24:40Speaker 3: et cetera. There should be something that incorporates that as well.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I just think that right now we're kind of in
- 24:46Speaker 3: a situation where we're stuck on the old model, old
- 24:49Speaker 3: pay view numbers. All right, Well, you can't add and
- 24:51Speaker 3: tell the full story because we watch the fight in
- 24:54Speaker 3: so many different ways. Now, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 24:56Speaker 3: There's people who are on TikTok that were screaming the
- 25:00Speaker 3: fight and went on TikTok why for forty minutes and
- 25:03Speaker 3: showed the whole damn fight. Really a sorry ass, wi Fi.
- 25:08Speaker 3: So I'm just saying people are doing that. So you
- 25:10Speaker 3: can't use all of this big PPV only did forty
- 25:13Speaker 3: thousand byes blah blah blah thoughts on the full story.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I guess I could any one of
- 25:20Speaker 2: us could go on Instagram live and just put up
- 25:22Speaker 2: our phones to our TV or you know in the
- 25:24Speaker 2: movie theater when they play the fights in the movie theaters,
- 25:26Speaker 2: I could just kind of have that bluet leg up
- 25:28Speaker 2: on there.
- 25:28Speaker 3: So all every fight, every fight they do at UFC boxing,
- 25:34Speaker 3: mostly boxing, for sure, somebody's on TikTok going live with
- 25:39Speaker 3: a gang people tuned in because a lot of people
- 25:41Speaker 3: aren't buying, they're not watching the traditional way, but we're
- 25:44Speaker 3: still judging fight success off of the traditional way of
- 25:49Speaker 3: raiding a fight, and that ain't it right?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Well, and you know the thing about the Times Square
- 25:55Speaker 2: fight and the Canelo fight. I'm not sure about the
- 25:57Speaker 2: one in London. But those those who are still going
- 25:59Speaker 2: to be pay per view but they're still again partnering
- 26:00Speaker 2: up with it must be again a huge company, Japanese company.
- 26:04Speaker 2: There's got a lot of money behind it, So I mean,
- 26:07Speaker 2: do you really also still need the pay per view numbers?
- 26:09Speaker 2: But but then again, if it's on regular TV, we'll
- 26:12Speaker 2: have a lot of commercials, but I don't know. It's
- 26:15Speaker 2: a give and take.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Remember the Saudis when they had the fight, when Crawford
- 26:18Speaker 3: fought in La last year, they had the eminem concert
- 26:21Speaker 3: the middle of the fight and all that, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 3: So you're gonna see more of that stuff because again,
- 26:26Speaker 3: they got to make their money. I get it. They're
- 26:28Speaker 3: going to take a loss on the fight, right, They're
- 26:29Speaker 3: gonna pay Can a bunch of money. You got a
- 26:31Speaker 3: fly everybody out there, so you're gonna take some sort
- 26:35Speaker 3: of loss on the fight. But it's for the greater
- 26:38Speaker 3: good because it's setting up things greater good. So that's
- 26:41Speaker 3: how it is.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I mean, I, like I said, at the
- 26:44Speaker 2: very least, this is an interesting partnership and just to
- 26:47Speaker 2: get into the Times Square fight specifically because that's the
- 26:50Speaker 2: one that's like different from what we're used to because
- 26:53Speaker 2: it's gonna be out in Times Square. Turkey Ella Shick
- 26:56Speaker 2: said it will be only one hundred to three hundred
- 26:58Speaker 2: people attending, which will be a spec limitation from him.
- 27:01Speaker 2: So it's not it's not open to people just the
- 27:03Speaker 2: general publics buy tickets, but it seems like the public
- 27:06Speaker 2: can come and watch it in Times Square. I've never
- 27:08Speaker 2: been in Times Square. I think I'd rather die than
- 27:10Speaker 2: go in Times Square, honestly, not in New York City.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Times Square specifically, it seems terrible. But have you ever
- 27:15Speaker 2: been out there in Times Square.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I've been one. I've been in New York three times.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I've been to Town Square once. It's the most traffic I've
- 27:22Speaker 3: ever seen in my life. Sure it's busy, that it's
- 27:25Speaker 3: hotter because all the lights on, all the lights, all
- 27:29Speaker 3: the energy electricity that's there. New York is a very
- 27:33Speaker 3: interesting place. Some people have their feelings about New York. Ironically,
- 27:37Speaker 3: I like New York people. Ironically, I think they're kind
- 27:40Speaker 3: of misunderstood. I think they are. I think they're cruel
- 27:44Speaker 3: and funny in their own way. But I don't think
- 27:45Speaker 3: they hate. I don't think they mean bad though. It's
- 27:48Speaker 3: not Boston where people are like meaning racist and just
- 27:53Speaker 3: mean that waking up in the morning. I think New
- 27:55Speaker 3: Yorker is actually cool. They just gonna mess with you.
- 27:58Speaker 3: They're gonna mess with your signa joke with you. They're
- 28:01Speaker 3: gonna give you a hard time at first, just to
- 28:02Speaker 3: test you. But deep downside, I think they're decent, genuine people.
- 28:06Speaker 3: So it's it's cool with the fascinating place to go,
- 28:08Speaker 3: massive square, gardens old, but I think it's a classic place.
- 28:12Speaker 3: It's you know, it is the mecca of a lot
- 28:15Speaker 3: of things. But with that being said, I prefer fights
- 28:19Speaker 3: in Vegas. If you got to fight in Vegas or
- 28:21Speaker 3: on the West Coast in a more modern arena and
- 28:23Speaker 3: more control environment, I'd prefer that, sure.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And they no hate to New York. I've never been
- 28:29Speaker 2: to New York City myself been up state New York.
- 28:31Speaker 2: But I just hate the idea of Times Square because
- 28:33Speaker 2: it's all those bullshit adds in like Giant Chili's and
- 28:37Speaker 2: like TJ Fridays, Like why would you go to a
- 28:38Speaker 2: place like New York City then go to Timeskirt to
- 28:40Speaker 2: eat at a fucking TGI Fridays.
- 28:43Speaker 3: You can find that people don't have no sense. People
- 28:47Speaker 3: come to Vegas and go in and out, and they
- 28:48Speaker 3: live in California or Arizona. So it's one of those
- 28:51Speaker 3: things where people ain't got no sense, man.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Sure, and that's why you know what, And I could
- 28:56Speaker 2: say those people are living their lives wrong if they're
- 28:58Speaker 2: gonna go to New York City and if fucking yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 2: I eat it. Like I said, the Chilies and in
- 29:03Speaker 2: Times Square the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.
- 29:06Speaker 3: New York bro, like what are we doing? Like?
- 29:09Speaker 2: I like traveling, so I always like to find, you know,
- 29:11Speaker 2: local spots, what's cool. Talk to the bartendercy where they
- 29:14Speaker 2: like to go drink. You know, if I go into
- 29:16Speaker 2: if I'm traveling and I go into, like I don't know,
- 29:18Speaker 2: a Buffalo Wild Wings, it's to ask the bartender where
- 29:20Speaker 2: they go to drink when they get off shifts.
- 29:22Speaker 3: So in Yoga City, I can eat here. I might
- 29:27Speaker 3: wear an old restaurant that they got in Vegas not
- 29:30Speaker 3: I know, if if FeAs the purpose, yeah, absolutely, I
- 29:33Speaker 3: will say I did.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I did go to a McDonald's in Tokyo, but to
- 29:36Speaker 2: be fair to me, it was inside a grocery store
- 29:39Speaker 2: I was already going into and I got a kariokey burger,
- 29:41Speaker 2: which is not they don't have the menu here.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Yeah I'm already here.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but no, I with you. You know, I'm
- 29:47Speaker 2: always going to try to The times that I'll eat
- 29:50Speaker 2: at any like chain restaurants or stuff for fast food
- 29:52Speaker 2: is when I'm so miserably hung over and it's like
- 29:54Speaker 2: I can't. I'm traveling and I'm like, this is close,
- 29:56Speaker 2: this is gonna have to do. I don't give a
- 29:58Speaker 2: ship like I'm gonna I'm about to die. But yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 2: so that's that's the reason I hate on times square
- 30:04Speaker 2: haven't been but just the concept of it, you know,
- 30:06Speaker 2: likey but uh yeah, but you know, the I don't
- 30:09Speaker 2: know is there? Do you think that they'll be set
- 30:11Speaker 2: up in a way that like a lot of people
- 30:12Speaker 2: can come and a lot of people can see this fight.
- 30:14Speaker 2: It's it's curiosity work.
- 30:17Speaker 3: I'm just it feels weird, like it feels it sounds weird. However,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I'm always open to new ideas, like I'm always open
- 30:25Speaker 3: and curious on new things, new concepts because if it
- 30:27Speaker 3: works and we can do it in the future, so
- 30:29Speaker 3: I'm always opening it. However, as we know, boxing makes
- 30:33Speaker 3: money off butts in the seats, So angry a lot
- 30:36Speaker 3: more of these going forward. You ain't a mega fights
- 30:40Speaker 3: happening there because you got to be able to watch
- 30:42Speaker 3: the fight and you gotta be able to put people
- 30:44Speaker 3: get that gate. That gate is huge in a lot
- 30:47Speaker 3: of cases. So that's where guys make the money at
- 30:49Speaker 3: So not see a whole lot of bimentioned about the
- 30:51Speaker 3: concept though.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the one. The thing that really stuck with
- 30:54Speaker 2: me is that, yeah, there's no tickets, like I said, like,
- 30:57Speaker 2: whoever those hundred and three hundred people, if they sell tickets,
- 31:00Speaker 2: they're you know, celebrities, friends of the Saudi's. They can
- 31:02Speaker 2: pay it, you know, five grand just like that anyway,
- 31:05Speaker 2: so it doesn't really matter. But yeah, with an arena, shit,
- 31:08Speaker 2: you know, you're you're sitting pretty and then all those
- 31:10Speaker 2: damn all all the food and boot sales, you know, seventeen.
- 31:15Speaker 3: They make a lot of money off March. A lot
- 31:17Speaker 3: of mother all the accessoriess don't make a lot of
- 31:20Speaker 3: money off March.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I guess we can call this this particular event like
- 31:24Speaker 2: it's a stunt for sure. That doesn't mean it's a
- 31:26Speaker 2: bad thing. Yeah, it doesn't mean it. You know, if
- 31:28Speaker 2: it's a stunt that brings in more fans in the sport,
- 31:30Speaker 2: maybe the people who show up say, well, boxing is
- 31:33Speaker 2: cool as shit. I'm gonna pay attention to either the
- 31:35Speaker 2: next fighter, this particular fighter, et cetera, and they might
- 31:38Speaker 2: make a new fan.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I hope so.
- 31:39Speaker 2: But but yeah, it's this is not a model for
- 31:42Speaker 2: it because the money's not going to be coming in.
- 31:44Speaker 2: It's but you know, again, the partnering up with the
- 31:48Speaker 2: video and company, maybe they broke even I don't know,
- 31:51Speaker 2: that's beyond my area of expertise. At the very least,
- 31:55Speaker 2: it's gonna be some good fights. So in the time
- 31:57Speaker 2: score event, we're gonna see Ryan Garcia fighting Will Romero,
- 32:00Speaker 2: Devin Hantey fighting Jose Rimirez and to tell Fia Ma Lopez,
- 32:03Speaker 2: Tomass fighting Arnold Barbosa. So good fighters, you know, good names,
- 32:08Speaker 2: good names names absolutely and then you know, like I said,
- 32:13Speaker 2: that's the second and then right the next day in
- 32:15Speaker 2: Saudi Arabia, Canelo, big name. So this whole event, at
- 32:18Speaker 2: least at you know what, that Mike Tyson's travesty was
- 32:22Speaker 2: a stunt as well, and that was garbage. So at
- 32:24Speaker 2: least this this stunt, this stunt has good fights and
- 32:29Speaker 2: a potential to bring some some faces in, some new
- 32:31Speaker 2: fans in I don't know.
- 32:32Speaker 3: And also you you set up the next fights, right,
- 32:35Speaker 3: so if the favorites win, you fight up the next
- 32:38Speaker 3: stage of a Who's Next. I think that's key, Like
- 32:41Speaker 3: we got to get to the point where guys are
- 32:43Speaker 3: fighting at least twice a year, and there's big fights
- 32:45Speaker 3: people want to see. That's always the key, Like, we
- 32:47Speaker 3: don't care about the tune up fights. We want guys
- 32:50Speaker 3: fighting that are gonna make it different. So I'm all
- 32:53Speaker 3: with it.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and I don't. I never watched the any
- 32:56Speaker 2: of the press conferences before for any matches. I just
- 32:59Speaker 2: don't really never can be cared about what happens outside
- 33:01Speaker 2: of the ring. But I did, you know, I was
- 33:02Speaker 2: doom scrolling through social media, and I did see that
- 33:05Speaker 2: there were highlights where Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney were
- 33:08Speaker 2: already going at each other in the press conference. They're
- 33:10Speaker 2: not even fighting each other, they're already setting that up.
- 33:12Speaker 2: So somebody who shows up go, wow, this Ryan Garcia guy,
- 33:15Speaker 2: he's good. Haini's good. They're gonna fight each other. Fuck yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I'm tuning in, you know what I mean that.
- 33:20Speaker 3: And also, whenever there's a lawsuit involved, it's always going
- 33:23Speaker 3: to be interesting, always going to be interesting. So that's
- 33:27Speaker 3: how it goes.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Well, I wasn't planning on bringing that up, but since
- 33:32Speaker 2: you mentioned it, you know the lawsuit. So the last
- 33:36Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia Devin Haney fight was in April twenty twenty four.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Actually turns out Ryan popped positive for some kind of
- 33:44Speaker 2: fromance enhancing something or other I don't remember. Ryan won
- 33:48Speaker 2: the fight pretty decisively as a blood against Haney. Then
- 33:51Speaker 2: Hainey's team actually sued Garcia for like battery because I
- 33:56Speaker 2: attacked him. I think, what are your thoughts on that.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I know a lot of people are just clowning Haney.
- 34:00Speaker 2: I'm not cool with lawsuit.
- 34:01Speaker 3: At the same time, not callt Ryan testing dirty. I mean,
- 34:06Speaker 3: two negatives don't make a positive here. So that being said,
- 34:10Speaker 3: I think both parties need to get their shit straight
- 34:13Speaker 3: because this ain't it a lawsuit, and then the lawsuit
- 34:16Speaker 3: got thrown out, so we don't worry about that. Ryan
- 34:19Speaker 3: has too much talent and too much too much market
- 34:25Speaker 3: market ability to be putting himself in ways that he
- 34:30Speaker 3: can't fight. He needs to stay active because he actually
- 34:33Speaker 3: has something that he could take advantage of. Devin Hana
- 34:36Speaker 3: needs to put together pretty a couple of pretty good
- 34:39Speaker 3: fights going forward so we can see who he actually is.
- 34:42Speaker 3: So I think we got to get past that stuff
- 34:45Speaker 3: and get to what really counts, because there's fights that
- 34:48Speaker 3: both could have been made for both those guys that
- 34:50Speaker 3: could have been better for the fans. But we keep
- 34:54Speaker 3: dodging others stuff because stuff has happened. Devin Handy being
- 34:58Speaker 3: in active for this law doesn't make sense. He wasn't hurt. No,
- 35:02Speaker 3: you know, he's just been inactive. Ryan, I spent it
- 35:04Speaker 3: for a year. That's not good for boxing. Well, I'm
- 35:06Speaker 3: not saying he's the best boxing roll or not like that.
- 35:09Speaker 3: He's a famous name. He has a lot of skill.
- 35:12Speaker 3: The mental is all gone, but that's a whole different conversation.
- 35:15Speaker 3: But there's actually skill there. But being all for a
- 35:20Speaker 3: year doesn't help anyone.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, I mean I don't have any real opinion
- 35:24Speaker 2: on the lawsuit use of itself. I just think like
- 35:26Speaker 2: there is also this idea of not a lot of
- 35:28Speaker 2: consequences for shitty behavior in boxing. You know, I said
- 35:31Speaker 2: he got spent it for a year, but he's right
- 35:32Speaker 2: back we talked about you know, Canelo was told by
- 35:37Speaker 2: WBC that Dave been Avidez was his mandatory and if
- 35:40Speaker 2: he didn't fight, he takes get his belt taken away.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Didn't fight him, didn't get the belt taken away. So
- 35:44Speaker 2: like what are we doing here? Like why are there
- 35:46Speaker 2: rules if nobody's gonna give a shit. You know, why
- 35:48Speaker 2: not making a god damn free for all, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 2: four guys fighting each other in the ring, and just
- 35:52Speaker 2: whoever lives lives? I mean, come on, you know you
- 35:54Speaker 2: got you gotta stick to something here, So say they
- 35:57Speaker 2: would take you know, if you're not gonna get some
- 35:59Speaker 2: kind of but fit for taking a knee, then why
- 36:01Speaker 2: not the hell?
- 36:02Speaker 3: Why should anody making way all this stuff? You know,
- 36:05Speaker 3: we're boxers and the fans suffers.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Agreed, agreed, So that's my take on it. But cool, Yeah, no,
- 36:13Speaker 2: a very least. I'm excited to see this, uh, this
- 36:15Speaker 2: Times Square event and definitely be at the Canelo fight
- 36:19Speaker 2: the next day, probably be at the neighborhood, my favorite
- 36:21Speaker 2: Mexican sports bart here in town. This will be a
- 36:23Speaker 2: weird one because it's gonna be early. It's gonna be
- 36:25Speaker 2: like a three pm because.
- 36:28Speaker 3: That is May third, technically.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah, so yeah, so excited to see it. Let's
- 36:36Speaker 2: see what happened? So great man, that's uh, that's all
- 36:39Speaker 2: the news that's fit to print. Let's move on to it.
- 36:41Speaker 3: They took they took that event away from Vegas, that
- 36:44Speaker 3: US Vegas.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah no, no, because Canelos signed the fight deal with season.
- 36:49Speaker 2: This is the first fight in Saudi Arabia.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I remember, we just it just came to me that
- 36:52Speaker 3: that that that's usually a big Vegas weekend and that's interesting.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so that's so. Yes, Canelo's first fight
- 37:00Speaker 2: with three hot season is in Saudi Arabia with Crawford.
- 37:02Speaker 2: It's supposed to be in Vegas, but he's got two
- 37:04Speaker 2: more fights. Are they also gonna be in Saudi Arabia?
- 37:07Speaker 3: It depends, right, So let's just say hypothetically Canello Crawford
- 37:13Speaker 3: is either very close or a draw, there's gonna be
- 37:16Speaker 3: a rematch. Now that's good. Everyone want to see. If
- 37:19Speaker 3: it's somewhat close, they'll run it back. If it's not,
- 37:22Speaker 3: then we'll see. But if it's any kind of close,
- 37:25Speaker 3: we're getting a second fight, probably in the same venue.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Because Allegiant holds sixty five thousand just seats when you
- 37:32Speaker 3: do the boxing, probably close to another five or ten.
- 37:36Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, yep, yep.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Well and that that brings us a thing in my mind.
- 37:41Speaker 2: So what do you think Vegas is gonna be like
- 37:43Speaker 2: on second in my weekend? Ma, I'm assuming people are
- 37:45Speaker 2: still gonna be watching the fight, But what do you think.
- 37:47Speaker 3: That saying, man like, honestly, Vegas depends. That's a big dog.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Since I've been here, and I've been in Vegas twenty
- 37:55Speaker 3: I've been in Vegas for twenty single Demayo's okay. I
- 38:00Speaker 3: every time there's been at least one big fight here
- 38:04Speaker 3: on that day, whether it's Floyd fighting, whether it's Canelo fighting. Hell,
- 38:07Speaker 3: sometimes it's been both. You know, they're on I'm saying
- 38:12Speaker 3: card at times. For neither of them to fight here
- 38:15Speaker 3: on that day is weird. They might be f C
- 38:18Speaker 3: day out here now because of it. Not happy about that,
- 38:21Speaker 3: but neither hear it. I'm there. But man, that's something
- 38:25Speaker 3: because Floyd started fighting on sicking to Mayo here, I
- 38:28Speaker 3: want to say as early as the mid two thousands.
- 38:34Speaker 3: But yeah, that's that's something like, that's truly truly something.
- 38:38Speaker 3: But again, I understand the play, you know, I get
- 38:42Speaker 3: what's going on, and whoever puts up the money as
- 38:44Speaker 3: the person that makes the decision. So that's just how
- 38:47Speaker 3: it goes.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Sure, and we've talked about this in previous episodes, so
- 38:51Speaker 2: go back and listen to those conversations. But you know,
- 38:52Speaker 2: like I said, I'm not I'm not specifically a hater
- 38:54Speaker 2: about you know, Turkey Yelashik and Saudi Arabian money coming
- 38:57Speaker 2: into boxing. It's more I don't have a problem with
- 38:59Speaker 2: matches in Saudi Arabia, just like I don't doesn't bother
- 39:01Speaker 2: me if they're in London. You know, they're New York,
- 39:03Speaker 2: like very far away from me. Anyway.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I just want to see the fights.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but it does make a difference. It does
- 39:09Speaker 2: affect our you know, the the Vegas economy, the you know,
- 39:13Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden in Vegas. They're fight capitals of the world.
- 39:15Speaker 2: And if boxing goes more and more towards streaming toward
- 39:19Speaker 2: Saudi money, you know we're gonna be We're gonna be
- 39:22Speaker 2: left in the cold a little bit, I think.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Yeah. The only thing I don't like about the fights
- 39:27Speaker 3: and other places is the time difference. I'm used to
- 39:30Speaker 3: watching fights at night, so watching a fight in the
- 39:32Speaker 3: afternoon or watching the fight in the morning, they don't
- 39:34Speaker 3: hit the same. But whatever, we'll we'll make it work.
- 39:37Speaker 3: I just want to see guys fight and fight often.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I don't care about the extras or the raw route.
- 39:42Speaker 3: The money's right, fight and let's keep fighting twice a year. Minimum,
- 39:45Speaker 3: hopefully preferably three times when no one's hurt, but two
- 39:48Speaker 3: times minimum a year. Let's roll.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. Those Saudi Cards they started like ten
- 39:53Speaker 2: or eleven am the Undercards show. Yeah, but specifically you
- 39:58Speaker 2: know for the canell of fight. Hey, that just means
- 40:00Speaker 2: I get to day drink while I watch that fight.
- 40:01Speaker 2: So not a problem here. I'll be hung over by
- 40:05Speaker 2: like eight pm. I'll be sending you up text at
- 40:08Speaker 2: like four pm. Ticks are like, yeah, of course, yeah, Goup,
- 40:13Speaker 2: you get in my car? Watch what do you what? Yes?
- 40:14Speaker 2: Of course of up? All right, Moving on to our
- 40:19Speaker 2: pop pugilism segment. This is the segment where we discussed
- 40:22Speaker 2: a movie, TV show or documentary about boxing. Today we're
- 40:25Speaker 2: talking about a British TV show called One Thousand Blows
- 40:28Speaker 2: that premiered on Hulu in late February. Because this is
- 40:31Speaker 2: a new show that has some twists and turns, well,
- 40:33Speaker 2: we'll avoid spoilers you know here. The show was created
- 40:36Speaker 2: by Stephen Knight, who also created Peaky Blinders. That's the
- 40:38Speaker 2: show I know pretty much nothing about other than Killian
- 40:41Speaker 2: Murphy is in a shout out to him. Oppenheimro is
- 40:44Speaker 2: my favorite movie of twenty twenty three. But this show
- 40:47Speaker 2: stars Malachai Kirby, Aaron Doherty, and most notably two American audiences,
- 40:52Speaker 2: Stephen Graham. He was in Snatch the Irishman and he
- 40:55Speaker 2: played al Capone and Bordwrock Empire great actor. The story
- 40:59Speaker 2: takes place in the eighties in the East End of London.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Two Jamaican men best friends named Hezekiah Moscow and Alec
- 41:05Speaker 2: when Roe moved to London and get involved in the
- 41:07Speaker 2: underground bare knuckle boxing scene. And Stephen Graham plays Sugar
- 41:11Speaker 2: Goods in the crime bross who sets up all these fights.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Before we get into more details of the of the show, Jamison,
- 41:17Speaker 2: what did you think?
- 41:18Speaker 3: It wasn't bad? Problem? Like, it wasn't bad, And I
- 41:21Speaker 3: guess it's the first season of the show, so it
- 41:25Speaker 3: wasn't you know it's gonna continue right that it's gonna
- 41:28Speaker 3: have a season two.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Technically, so yes, it's the first season, but it was
- 41:32Speaker 2: actually sold as a twelve episode show. So the first
- 41:36Speaker 2: season is six episodes. Yeah, yeah, but then that they
- 41:39Speaker 2: split up in two but I'm saying it's not ongoing.
- 41:41Speaker 2: They basically sold it and filmed it as twelve They
- 41:43Speaker 2: just split it up.
- 41:44Speaker 3: So yeah, ah, okay, so we got six more that
- 41:46Speaker 3: makes sense, six more okay.
- 41:48Speaker 2: And yeah that'll be a complete story. So it was
- 41:50Speaker 2: set up to be a complete story when they sold.
- 41:52Speaker 3: It, and they left wiggle room to add more they
- 41:54Speaker 3: want to make. Okay. It was cool like art so
- 42:00Speaker 3: considering the time it was, it wasn't bad at all.
- 42:03Speaker 3: When it comes to the boxing stuff, the actual production
- 42:07Speaker 3: was really cool, like it was done very well. Storylines,
- 42:10Speaker 3: character development, all that was really cool. Crazy grimmy story though,
- 42:15Speaker 3: Like it was wild. I mean the boxing was hella
- 42:18Speaker 3: hell illegal, Like we had low blows, we had rib shots,
- 42:21Speaker 3: we had uh behind the ear hit. Oh yeah, people's
- 42:25Speaker 3: legs get taken up under them.
- 42:27Speaker 2: And like each other.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Like it was crazy. I ain't I've seen a
- 42:32Speaker 3: lot of stuff in my day. I've seen a lot
- 42:34Speaker 3: of fights in my day. I've gotten I've gotten my
- 42:37Speaker 3: fair share of my fair share of fights in my day.
- 42:40Speaker 3: So that's the last saw on that and that show
- 42:41Speaker 3: I ain't never seen before. Bro, that's crazy. It was crazy,
- 42:46Speaker 3: but it sucks because during that era, like black folks
- 42:51Speaker 3: and cano fair fight wasn't real fair one. It didn't
- 42:53Speaker 3: work that way. And if you did, You're gonna die.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Right, No, I appreciate the pression value was wild. I mean,
- 42:59Speaker 2: I'm assume Peaky blinder Peaky Blinders is a really popular
- 43:02Speaker 2: show because this thing had some money behind it, you know.
- 43:04Speaker 2: And Stephen Graham, as cool as he is, Like, he's
- 43:07Speaker 2: not a big name, you know, the name must be
- 43:09Speaker 2: the guy that created Stephen Knight, who I looked it up.
- 43:12Speaker 2: The only other thing that I know him from, which
- 43:13Speaker 2: is my favorite thing he's done. He wrote Eastern Promises,
- 43:16Speaker 2: which is a David Cronenberg movie that fucking rules.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Love that movie.
- 43:20Speaker 2: So yeah, show was very well made. I liked. So
- 43:24Speaker 2: I picked it for this segment because I saw the trailer.
- 43:27Speaker 2: It was about bare knuckle boxers, but really boxing is
- 43:31Speaker 2: all through about the show. The show is about boxing,
- 43:35Speaker 2: and the great thing about it is there's a divide
- 43:38Speaker 2: between bare knuckle back room underground boxing and legit gloved
- 43:42Speaker 2: West End London boxing, and the gloves themselves are like
- 43:47Speaker 2: the symbol of the divide between these two worlds. So
- 43:49Speaker 2: there's a character named Mary Carr who's a head of
- 43:52Speaker 2: a head of a female crime gang, Rob's department stores
- 43:55Speaker 2: and shit like that, and she tells Stephen Graham in
- 43:58Speaker 2: one scene like look, as long as you're not wearing
- 44:01Speaker 2: gloves specifically, she heads in boxing gloves, you go. She said,
- 44:03Speaker 2: you'll always be seen as East End scum. The gloves
- 44:06Speaker 2: me You're in a sport for gentlemen, which I thought
- 44:08Speaker 2: was really interesting of how that, you know, what what
- 44:11Speaker 2: the gloves mean to this story, particularly why yeah, we
- 44:16Speaker 2: get to see the west End boxing club is very bougie.
- 44:18Speaker 2: It's very upscale. People are in suits and top hats
- 44:21Speaker 2: and shit. But the cool thing about the story of
- 44:23Speaker 2: that cool thing. But the the thing about the story
- 44:25Speaker 2: that works is that that west End boxing club is
- 44:28Speaker 2: just as racist towards Hezekaiah Moscow.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Yeah thing, it was no change, it was no. Yeah,
- 44:34Speaker 3: we're talking hell London in general is what it is.
- 44:36Speaker 3: But that day, man, what are we talking about eighteen eighties?
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, I'm yeah, so I I appreciate the
- 44:45Speaker 2: realism of it. They're not going to say, and you know,
- 44:48Speaker 2: the show itself doesn't really take a stand on whether, yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 2: boxing with gloves traditional is like the better option. It's
- 44:54Speaker 2: just like this is an option and then just being
- 44:57Speaker 2: a you know, the back room fighting's comeback is also
- 45:01Speaker 2: an option, and Stephen Graham absolutely loves that, so you know,
- 45:04Speaker 2: that's his life and he doesn't know anything else, So
- 45:06Speaker 2: I appreciate.
- 45:07Speaker 3: That right now. You know, it told the story very
- 45:10Speaker 3: well and unfortunately, like I'm half Jamaica, my dad's from Jamaica,
- 45:14Speaker 3: so I have family out there, So watching that is like, damn,
- 45:17Speaker 3: Like it's really liked that people literally escape at small
- 45:20Speaker 3: island and go somewhere and we'll do whatever it takes
- 45:23Speaker 3: to make it. And that's what it felt like, right
- 45:26Speaker 3: like when do we get dropped to that flashbacks of
- 45:29Speaker 3: his childhood and how bad it was and relations to
- 45:32Speaker 3: him and his dad and basically never quit because it's
- 45:35Speaker 3: all he had. That's all he had. That's why it
- 45:38Speaker 3: kind of sucks in this day and age we have
- 45:40Speaker 3: the boxes we have and they take things so lightly
- 45:44Speaker 3: because back then boxing didn't have no options. So that's
- 45:47Speaker 3: why it kind of sucks with you here nor there.
- 45:49Speaker 3: But for the for the film, for the product itself,
- 45:52Speaker 3: it was pretty dope. Like, to be honest with you,
- 45:54Speaker 3: it was pretty cool. I thought it was very well produced.
- 45:59Speaker 3: My biggest thing, to be honest with you about it
- 46:02Speaker 3: was for that era it captured the boxing of that era,
- 46:07Speaker 3: So I couldn't say the boxing scenes were trash because
- 46:11Speaker 3: for that era, that's what that's how they boxed. So
- 46:14Speaker 3: I gotta think about that. I prepare it for that era.
- 46:16Speaker 3: If I just thought with boxing scenes overall, probably not it.
- 46:20Speaker 3: But for that era it was pretty dope.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's brutal. It's a brutal, violent show too.
- 46:25Speaker 2: The matches their bloody, and apart from the matches, when
- 46:28Speaker 2: people because it's a crime show, there's crime, keeper is like,
- 46:31Speaker 2: it's that it's hard a crime show. People are getting
- 46:33Speaker 2: fucked up in the show ways. They're getting beat up,
- 46:37Speaker 2: to get killed whatever, Like.
- 46:38Speaker 3: It's it's people's blowing people's houses and spots up. Uh.
- 46:44Speaker 3: They one dude got stabbed to dell. It was it
- 46:47Speaker 3: was wild. It was wild, but it was a very
- 46:52Speaker 3: interesting story. But it was also sad too, basically like, hey,
- 46:56Speaker 3: you can escape to the States, have anue life, and
- 46:58Speaker 3: it was just it was really sad more than anything.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Like dude was fighting for survival, not at a leisure
- 47:04Speaker 3: you know what I mean, he was fighting because that's
- 47:06Speaker 3: all he had. They came there broke you know. It
- 47:08Speaker 3: was really it was unfortunate and both dudes got cheated
- 47:12Speaker 3: when they first fought like fast, and that second they
- 47:15Speaker 3: first fight, they both got like crazy did because they
- 47:17Speaker 3: were beating dudes that know, we weren't getting beat you know,
- 47:20Speaker 3: they were holding their own if nothing. El oh my
- 47:24Speaker 3: the second guy, the main character, he was out here
- 47:27Speaker 3: fighting and whooping dudes asked for the most part and
- 47:30Speaker 3: then they pulled the wrung up under him and got
- 47:33Speaker 3: him out here. We thought tanks. Uh, he was bad.
- 47:36Speaker 3: All that first second fight was crazy. They took dudes
- 47:41Speaker 3: legs and took it up under. They need him in the.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Face, got me in the face. Yeah that's boxing. Yeah,
- 47:49Speaker 2: and hez the Kanya Moscow is the name of the
- 47:51Speaker 2: main character. He even said like, well, you can't do this,
- 47:54Speaker 2: you can't do the ship in boxing. But it wasn't
- 47:56Speaker 2: legit but yeah it was behind the bar. It was
- 47:59Speaker 2: you know, I said, people came in pay to see
- 48:01Speaker 2: people getting fucked there and they are tired. There are
- 48:04Speaker 2: people talking about killing their opponent cavalierly like nothing to
- 48:07Speaker 2: be like, Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna fight this guy.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna beat the shit out and he's gonna die.
- 48:11Speaker 2: And it wasn't like an exaggeration. It wasn't like you know,
- 48:14Speaker 2: the guys in the press conference today saying they'll catch
- 48:16Speaker 2: a body. No, those fuckers will die in the ring,
- 48:18Speaker 2: in the in the show. So it was wild. The
- 48:21Speaker 2: other thing that I thought was kind of weird, not
- 48:23Speaker 2: even it's not a complaint, but Stephen Graham plays sugar
- 48:25Speaker 2: Goods and like I said, the crime boss, the the
- 48:28Speaker 2: big the guy who sets up the bare knuckle boxing matches,
- 48:30Speaker 2: he fights himself. I thought he was gonna have like
- 48:33Speaker 2: a criminal enterprise and like a gang. But his whole
- 48:35Speaker 2: criminal underworld is just those fights. Like that's why he's
- 48:39Speaker 2: crime boss. Like that's he says, like people have my protection,
- 48:42Speaker 2: you know, I pay the cos blah blah. And I
- 48:44Speaker 2: thought he was gonna be running guns or you know,
- 48:46Speaker 2: just having a whole No, it's just him and his
- 48:47Speaker 2: brother and his bartender and they're a criminal gang because
- 48:52Speaker 2: they box. Like I mean, that's fine. Like I said,
- 48:55Speaker 2: I just thought it was interesting. Thought it was weird,
- 48:56Speaker 2: but not really what I expected from these kinds of
- 48:59Speaker 2: crime shows. But I had a good time, you know,
- 49:01Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. I think the best thing I can
- 49:03Speaker 2: say about it is now I kind of watch want
- 49:05Speaker 2: to watch I want to watch Peaky Blinders that.
- 49:08Speaker 3: But also the themes was kind of weird, the theme
- 49:12Speaker 3: music that the Yeah, it was kind of off setting,
- 49:15Speaker 3: but it was a cool all the way. You know,
- 49:18Speaker 3: it was cool all things considered. Like I said, I
- 49:21Speaker 3: enjoyed it. I kind of I want to see the
- 49:24Speaker 3: remaining part of it, whether season two or season one
- 49:27Speaker 3: extended or how they do it. So it was cool
- 49:28Speaker 3: and like Hulu has some good shows, So I was,
- 49:31Speaker 3: I was impressed.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Cool, Well, we rake things out of four gloves on
- 49:35Speaker 2: this show. What would you give this show?
- 49:38Speaker 3: Three point three three three three three.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Three Okay, okay, yeah, I'll go three point five, you
- 49:44Speaker 2: know I was. I was very impressed. Yeah, even you
- 49:46Speaker 2: know what, I'll even go like three point six five.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Well, I thought about three point five. I figured you
- 49:51Speaker 3: would do that. So I knocked a little bit off
- 49:53Speaker 3: for them having a black guy. And to be honest
- 49:57Speaker 3: with you, it was I felt that it could have
- 50:02Speaker 3: been they could have dove a little bit deeper into
- 50:07Speaker 3: like the like how they got to Jamaica or how
- 50:11Speaker 3: they got from Jamaica to London. They could have dovelowed
- 50:13Speaker 3: deeper on the why or like, you know, what exactly
- 50:16Speaker 3: was the reason, Like was somebody chased them, there's a
- 50:18Speaker 3: better opportunity they just like I thought that it could
- 50:20Speaker 3: be a little bit more background outside of just a
- 50:23Speaker 3: meze call him and his dad situation. I thought it
- 50:25Speaker 3: could be a little bit more with that development. But
- 50:28Speaker 3: other than that, it was cool to me. And then
- 50:30Speaker 3: obviously since the end of the way it ended, will
- 50:32Speaker 3: know what happens next, so it was cool.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, don't don't go into this expecting a lot
- 50:37Speaker 2: of history of Jamaica or learning anything. It starts from
- 50:40Speaker 2: London forward. A couple of little flashbacks, very brief flashbacks,
- 50:43Speaker 2: some things that happened there is like there was like
- 50:45Speaker 2: a rebellion in Jamaica that was put down by the British.
- 50:49Speaker 2: So uh, but yeah, the story is London forward. But
- 50:52Speaker 2: we'll see. We don't most see. Maybe there'll be flashbacks
- 50:54Speaker 2: in the next set of episodes, in the next six.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Will you tune in for the next six?
- 50:57Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm very interesting. I'm actually locked in now,
- 51:00Speaker 3: so I'm curious see what happens. That's the biggest thing.
- 51:03Speaker 3: But also it's just kind of crazy that like you're
- 51:07Speaker 3: in one racist place and you going to another, like
- 51:09Speaker 3: you're going from England in London to the US, Like
- 51:14Speaker 3: it's like going from you know, one STD to other
- 51:18Speaker 3: like you you know, you said, I get antibiotics either way.
- 51:22Speaker 3: So it was with that being said, I hope, I
- 51:27Speaker 3: hope he has a good ending. He lost his boy.
- 51:30Speaker 3: He obviously is not home. He's basically out there by himself.
- 51:33Speaker 3: The person that he trusted the most basically stabbed him
- 51:36Speaker 3: in the back and was and it was hitting licks
- 51:39Speaker 3: while he was fighting and all and it all been.
- 51:42Speaker 3: It was wild. It was a wild, wild show. But
- 51:44Speaker 3: I do like that. That's the hell of a concept though,
- 51:46Speaker 3: and it's crazy. It reminded me of so I know
- 51:49Speaker 3: you don't watch a lot of other sports, but it's
- 51:51Speaker 3: been happening lately, is these athletes have been getting robbed
- 51:54Speaker 3: while they're playing in games. So they'll be playing game
- 51:57Speaker 3: at like seven pm and their house gets hit.
- 52:00Speaker 2: So that ship.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so when he was boxing, it kind of you
- 52:04Speaker 3: know hit, uh, especially like oh, I've been having way
- 52:07Speaker 3: back then, so the same thing that's happening now. It's
- 52:09Speaker 3: been on a ring of those in the last couple
- 52:11Speaker 3: of years. But yeah, yep.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Really damn, that's that's wild.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I know I had house like they know no one's
- 52:17Speaker 3: home if you're am your family's at the game. Well, no,
- 52:22Speaker 3: the house is empty.
- 52:23Speaker 2: Oh man, I had never heard of that. It's wild. Yeah.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Yeah, thieves know in La unfortunately, or in a lot
- 52:30Speaker 3: of cities, you kind of to figure out who lives where.
- 52:33Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, well definitely check out the show if
- 52:38Speaker 2: you're interested in not just if you're not a boxing fan.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I think the show is is good if you like
- 52:42Speaker 2: crime shows, if you like you're like violent crime shows,
- 52:45Speaker 2: if you like people getting fucked up, to be quite
- 52:47Speaker 2: honest with you, because they're getting sucked up at the show.
- 52:49Speaker 2: So I'm assuming if you're a Piggy Blinders fan, you
- 52:53Speaker 2: know this is kind of similar styles. So uh, and
- 52:55Speaker 2: check out Eastern Promises. You know, fantastic movie director by Cronenberg.
- 52:59Speaker 2: There's as got Ego Mordensen from Lord of the Rings.
- 53:01Speaker 2: There's a bathhouse fight Russian bathouse, where's even their naked
- 53:04Speaker 2: and his cock is flopping around while he's fighting.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Super great.
- 53:08Speaker 2: So all right, let's uh, we don't have a mail
- 53:10Speaker 2: bag question for today, so we're gonna save that for
- 53:13Speaker 2: another episode, So please write in any questions that you have.
- 53:15Speaker 2: So let's finish off with this Jamison. Where can people
- 53:18Speaker 2: find you on social media?
- 53:19Speaker 3: Oh? Before that, I'm gonna ask you a mailbag question. Question. Yeah,
- 53:24Speaker 3: no questions, man, go ahead, it's all good. I'll just
- 53:30Speaker 3: give you a hard time. What fight got you into boxing?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Like?
- 53:36Speaker 3: What was the what was the fight? Probably your childhood
- 53:40Speaker 3: that made you a fan.
- 53:42Speaker 2: You know, I can't think of a particular fight because
- 53:44Speaker 2: it was who is fighting? When I was a little kid,
- 53:49Speaker 2: we would get together at my nana's house on Houston,
- 53:52Speaker 2: whole family get together, pay for the pay per view,
- 53:55Speaker 2: and we did a lot. I remember, you know, sitting
- 53:57Speaker 2: in that living room kind of must have been like
- 54:00Speaker 2: three years or four years old, you know, my earliest
- 54:02Speaker 2: memories of that, And couldn't tell you who was fighting,
- 54:05Speaker 2: but I remember the the energy, the vibes. I remember
- 54:09Speaker 2: everybody in the room, my nana, my oldest nana with
- 54:11Speaker 2: her bad hip, bad you know, shoulder whatever, still jumping out,
- 54:14Speaker 2: you know, yelling, everybody cheering, and that energy, like that
- 54:19Speaker 2: senergy I still feel when I'm watching boxing to this day.
- 54:22Speaker 2: And it started there, you know, Yeah, everybody was a fan.
- 54:26Speaker 2: I remember when Canelo lost a bev all. I texted
- 54:28Speaker 2: my mom and I was like, what was it like
- 54:30Speaker 2: when you watch Ulosa sun Jamas Luise. She's like, yeah,
- 54:33Speaker 2: I fucking cried.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Man.
- 54:34Speaker 2: I was like, I know, I know what you mean.
- 54:36Speaker 2: I know what you mean. So it's that not one
- 54:38Speaker 2: in particularly, it's that period, that era. So again, my
- 54:41Speaker 2: family's all all Mexican. You know, I'm Mexican American, but
- 54:44Speaker 2: that having that you know, Mexican boxer, that pride there.
- 54:50Speaker 2: It still feels very similar today when I watch canulifis
- 54:52Speaker 2: that's why I'm a fan, and people hate on him,
- 54:55Speaker 2: and even if I can say like he's fighting somebody,
- 54:58Speaker 2: that's you know, to me, okay this and that. When
- 55:02Speaker 2: I go to see the match and I see everybody
- 55:04Speaker 2: getting together, getting rowdy, having a good time, it doesn't matter.
- 55:07Speaker 2: No other boxer, no other Mexican boxer makes me feel
- 55:10Speaker 2: that way that, you know, as good as they are.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Ramirez doesn't, you know, bring up that kind of hype,
- 55:15Speaker 2: you know, Hia Mugia. Nobody gets people that hype like
- 55:17Speaker 2: Canela does. And that's what I really love about boxing most,
- 55:21Speaker 2: that feeling.
- 55:21Speaker 3: So I got you I got you so, like, it's
- 55:25Speaker 3: funny you mentioned that. So, like what Canelo does for y'all,
- 55:29Speaker 3: Floyd did for us. Yeah, and we got four Floyd.
- 55:32Speaker 3: It was kind of Mike who did it for us. Uh.
- 55:34Speaker 3: So I kind of feel you coming from. Uh, but
- 55:37Speaker 3: we're similar in age, so I totally understand where you're
- 55:40Speaker 3: coming from.
- 55:41Speaker 2: Uh.
- 55:41Speaker 3: For me, it's tough because I remember the only fight
- 55:45Speaker 3: I remember like thoroughly, with all the stuff going on,
- 55:48Speaker 3: I was like ten right, so like by some holy Field,
- 55:52Speaker 3: I remember, uh. But randomly I remember watching Riddick bow
- 55:56Speaker 3: and a lot of the low glow and all the
- 55:59Speaker 3: criziness with that. I remember those fights over interesting, but
- 56:03Speaker 3: it felt like the boxing matches where they were in
- 56:06Speaker 3: an event where everybody celebrated, everybody came together, way more
- 56:10Speaker 3: energy and passion. Now we watched to complain. Back then
- 56:15Speaker 3: we watched the chair and have a good time, and
- 56:17Speaker 3: that is uh, you know that's a little bit different. Yeah.
- 56:21Speaker 3: Our producers old as hell, he said, he's old. Over.
- 56:25Speaker 3: With that being said, Uh, with that being said, I
- 56:29Speaker 3: would say, I'm so I was born eighty six, So
- 56:32Speaker 3: I said, I mean I remember some of the stories
- 56:35Speaker 3: of like earlier fights, but like that ninety five to
- 56:38Speaker 3: ninety six range is what I remember at like got
- 56:41Speaker 3: me like, okay, I really like this, really enjoyed it.
- 56:43Speaker 3: I used to tag along with my dad and we
- 56:46Speaker 3: would go to my godfather's house and he'd always have
- 56:48Speaker 3: the fights on, like so I'd always tagle on watch
- 56:51Speaker 3: the fights. But I you know, I start knowing understand
- 56:54Speaker 3: what's going on in all the promotion around and every day,
- 56:56Speaker 3: knowing who Don King was and around ten or eleven,
- 57:00Speaker 3: and it was cool. It was I've been a fan
- 57:02Speaker 3: ever since, so it's been it's been dope to watch.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I remember we watched Tyson fights as well.
- 57:08Speaker 2: For me, I guess I connected more with the little guys.
- 57:11Speaker 2: I'm a fat piece of shit now, but I was
- 57:12Speaker 2: a little guy scorning. So yeah, the you know, the
- 57:15Speaker 2: heavyweight fighters, that was awesome, but like you know, the
- 57:18Speaker 2: the lightweight guys, featherweights, you know, the guys that are
- 57:22Speaker 2: on that weight range. That's the guys that I saw
- 57:24Speaker 2: myself in, you know, especially as I grew older, teenager again,
- 57:27Speaker 2: still scrawny as hell. I was skinning for like twenty
- 57:30Speaker 2: five years of my life. But it wasn't until that
- 57:33Speaker 2: later that I started getting getting fat. So so yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 2: I definitely enjoyed watching Tyson as well, but I never
- 57:40Speaker 2: connected with the heavyweights and the and the bigger dudes
- 57:43Speaker 2: as I did.
- 57:43Speaker 3: With the Well, we weren't a lot for Tyson's prime,
- 57:46Speaker 3: you know what I mean. We was such a we
- 57:47Speaker 3: wasn't around for that, so we didn't get to see
- 57:49Speaker 3: that unfortunately. So we saw a lot of holy Field,
- 57:52Speaker 3: We saw a lot of Daleye. We saw a lot
- 57:54Speaker 3: of Linz Lewis and Roy Jones and like Matt Koor
- 57:58Speaker 3: guys and beyond right, So uh, that's kind of like
- 58:02Speaker 3: our when we were ten and eleven ish, that's who
- 58:05Speaker 3: was cooking at that time. But but yeah, I was
- 58:07Speaker 3: kind of curious because you know, every everybody that watch
- 58:10Speaker 3: enjoyed Box. I remember that one fight their first, like big,
- 58:12Speaker 3: big fight. I remember that got them hooked for forever.
- 58:15Speaker 3: So I was kind of curious about that. Yeah.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so man, great discussion is always absolutely cool.
- 58:22Speaker 3: So producer got this random question that he knows better,
- 58:27Speaker 3: but he said, prime Roy versus Prime Canelo, that is
- 58:31Speaker 3: an interesting fight, but Prime, So where they at one
- 58:36Speaker 3: sixty eight? I guess they both be at one sixty
- 58:38Speaker 3: eight if I had one six. Yeah, that's interesting, you.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Know I do. If you remember a couple episodes ago,
- 58:48Speaker 2: I said, I never do the fantasy matchups. You know,
- 58:50Speaker 2: it's a good question, but also I always prefer, like,
- 58:54Speaker 2: who can people actually fight the stage?
- 58:56Speaker 3: You don't.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Here's the thing, Roy Jones fought Mike Tyson a few
- 58:59Speaker 2: years ago. Let's say what happened if Roy Jeords came
- 59:01Speaker 2: back and fought Cadelo and another stupid show case. I'd
- 59:06Speaker 2: I'd rather discuss that than you could do fantasy matchups.
- 59:08Speaker 2: I don't know, I've so many things are different, you know,
- 59:10Speaker 2: in terms of styles and and just where boxers are
- 59:13Speaker 2: coming from, and you can't you can't just plug a
- 59:17Speaker 2: guy into another era.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the generations are different, the training is different, the
- 59:22Speaker 3: everything's different. In hell. I mean, we knew Roy was
- 59:25Speaker 3: fighting for tax for tax money. We should have took
- 59:28Speaker 3: that consideration. But with that being said, yeah, it's it's
- 59:31Speaker 3: tough to compare errors. It really is.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, because I'm a fan boy, I'll say Canelo
- 59:36Speaker 2: would win. But if I want to say, whose music
- 59:38Speaker 2: I'd rather listen to is Roy Jones's rap music?
- 59:42Speaker 3: I would take prime Roy prime. Roy's prime is almost
- 59:47Speaker 3: better than anyone. I mean, his prime is up there
- 59:49Speaker 3: with anyone else's primis ever participate in sport. So with
- 59:53Speaker 3: that being said, apply take Roy. But man, i'd be
- 59:56Speaker 3: it's actually a really good question for like a fantasy
- 59:59Speaker 3: type of thing. But I'm with you. I don't like
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: comparing guys for different eras because so much stuff was different.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: But yeah, that's a fascinating matchup. Yeah.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Now I'm always going to go to like what are
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: the actual active fighters and what fights could we what
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: fantasy fight that could actually happen that aren't happening. It's
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: always whatever to talk about. So cool, cool, good discussion
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: as always, Man, appreciate it. I want to plug your
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: social media.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Man at Lee Jamison on Twitter. I'll be on their
